Hey can we stop being assholes please

you aren't cool when you use racial slurs or homophobic slurs or any other slurs and you aren't cool when you make fun of people who have mental health problems or disabilities (physical or mental)
"Did you see the (Yes, the n-word im sorry) over there?" Go back to the, like, 1800s please. Racism is not cool. Don't say that word.
"Nobody likes you, you (f-slur, sorry again)." Do you realize how much it hurts when us queer folk hear that? And we hear it a lot. So please don't. We don't need the whole world to hate us. It isn't hard to just be kind.
"Oh, your name is Austin? More like autistic" Okay NOT AN OKAY INSULT. Literally stfu. Autism is not something you should be repulsed by. It's not something you should use as an insult. Autistic people are people just like you.
"People who have anxiety/depression are such weirdos." Yeah thanks, I heard you, now I want to die even more thanks so much. I will gladly off myself so you dont have to deal with such a "weirdo."You've confirmed that nobody wants me here and that people think badly of me. I really appreciate it.
"We should dress up as special Ed kids for halloween cuz then we can pretend to be stupid freaks!" Do you even realize you're talking about another human being. Actually, do you? I'm not sure you do. Be nicer.
All of the above is things I've heard, occasionally they're directed at me. I haven't heard anything much on the next example so bear with me.
Don't do the thing where you call the girl a whore and slut shame her and then pat the guy on the back cuz he got laid. Just, no. Don't make the girl feel like she's done something wrong, then tell the guy good job. STAWP.
Next thing, recent experience, sorry if you're the ppl who have already heard me be pissed about it.
Respect privacy. Respect boundaries. When the person in front of you in line for lunch keeps moving away from you, you're too close, back up. Don't touch their ass. Don't stand so close that you can feel them shaking with fear. And don't try to pull the same thing twice. (btw, i told him off yesterday and it felt very nice).
BASICALLY MORAL OF THE STORY STOP BEING ASSHATS AND THE WORLD MIGHT BE A BETTER PLACE
#let's stop being assholes#tw for suicidal stuff#tw slurs implied#tw sa implied#respect people#don't use mean slurs#be nice to people with disabilities#be nice to everyone#be respectful to everyone#STAWP BEING BAD#thank you#please if u rb this come up with some good tags for me im crap at tagging#sorry if i said anything offensive i promise i didn't mean to hurt anyone thats literally the point of this post#just dm me if something is inaccurate or offensive and tell me how i can make it better#and i will do it#thanks for coming and visiting my shitposts that somethimes turn out deep and meaningful

You don't wish your disability was worse or more visible, you wish your disability was taken seriously. Please stop confusing the two, I guarantee you would not get the support you need JUST by being more severe or more visible. Please listen to visibly disabled people when we tell you it isn't better on our side
#m/cc#mine#I tried extremely hard to word this nicely because I KNOW people don't mean bad and often even know there are unique challenges#and believe me I know the challenges of invisible disability too!!#I have invisible disabilities!#but as someone who has also been at least visibly 'off' since they were 10 I am SO SICK of invisible disabilities being hailed as like#a unique extra oppression that us lucky visibly disabled people don't have to deal with#there are challenges to invisible disabilities that visibly disabled people DON'T have to deal with!#but you need to understand that *the reverse is also true*#there are MASSIVE benefits to being able to lie about your disability for example#or not dealing with the overt ableism that comes with your disability being obvious to everyone#*I do not have the option to pretend I'm not disabled.* that is never an option I have#I walk weirdly. I use a mobility aid now. my speech and face are 'off.' I lean to one side#for a long time I wore sunglasses 24/7 and often didn't make sense. I sometimes can't speak or won't react to others#for the most part people will always know that at the very least something is wrong with me#and more obviously I have people telling me they'll pray for me; telling me I can't do things I'm already in the process of doing;#wanting to shake my hand to tell me I'm an inspiration for not killing myself; giving me dirty looks for existing in public#and yes. I'm aware that this is very much an in-community issue. I know the average abled person doesn't know invisible disabilities exist#that's why there's so much awareness happening for it#but as a visibly disabled person I get SO TIRED of constantly hearing 'I wish my disability was visible :'('#it's just 'I wish I had your disability!' but from other disabled people

people act like being intentionally whimsical is inherently more annoying than being intentionally serious but why. suppose my temper is just naturally whimsical.
#idfk what 'unmasking' really is i think its a Lot Of Things but for ME#ive always been so loke obviously Developmentally Delayed in the sense that like.#my natural inclination is to behave in ways that people tend to read as very childlike. and#people either assume thats Disability or they assume its Affectation#generally. and often i suppress it. like#i go back and forth on this and i have done for years tbqh i distinctly remember being like 20#and thinking IF I FEEL THE URGE TO SKIP WHY SHOULD I NOT SKIP?#like if my natural inclination is. to move my body in ways that people are used to children moving their bodies#literally who cares?#SO WHAT IF IM HUMMING AND SINGING ALL THE TIME SO WHAT IF I DO A LITTLE TWIRL#or hop on and off things. or whatever! WHOMST CARES. FOR WHAT REASON DO I NEED PPL TO TAKE MW SERIOUSLY#AT THE GROCERY STORE?#anyway raise your hand if your Affect is Offputting to People.#the thing that ive realized getting older tho is like. often people also like this bc#they feel like it gives them permission to also behave in weird ways in public#and i like that its nice

More and more I'm exposed to the trend of people seeing me, an ambulatory wheelchair user, out of my chair and feeling the need to express how "proud" or "happy" they are to see me walking and I need these people to understand that, while I know it's often coming from a good place, that is such a condescending, utterly demeaning thing to say to someone who uses any form of disability aid, not least a wheelchair user
#especially when its someone who barely knows you to#like wdym you're 'proud' I'm not in my chair?#again#Ik most people are just trying to be nice#but it just feels so unintentionally ableist#I never know how to respond to it#hereditary spastic paraplegia#wheelchair in the wild#wheelchair user#disability#ableism

Posting this here as well
Food for thought
#disability tag#chronic illness#disability#disabled#ableism#rant#vent#if these types of posts make you uncomfortable#they should#but instead of shying away from it or ignoring it#please all I ask is that some of you help raise awareness in general#or don’t participate in these trends#idk I’m just#so tired of ableism becoming more and more normalized#and when I see fellow disabled people speak up#they’re either ignored dismissed or berated#please just be nice and do better#tiktok#trends#memes#awareness#EDIT: oomf made such a valid point about how the tooth trend is also incredibly classist#and I couldn’t agree more#thank you beloved moot I appreciate the very important addition /gen

@sockdooe, This is the full original image:
According to the Tumblr post I originally snagged it from, it's an early piece of promotional artwork, meant to depict Keith as the series's central character. Shiro is shoved into the background, presumably to illustrate that he was intended to fulfill a Doomed Mentor role.
#Correspondence.#sockdooe#Takashi Shirogane#Shiro#You're nothingness but shining and everywhere at once.#Allura#Hunk Garrett#Keith Kogane#Pidge Holt#Katie Holt#Lance McClain#Voltron: Legendary Defender#It IS a really nice piece with a ton of personality but I hate a lot of what it represents.#Specifically how Allura is just sort of thrown in there like an awkward Token Female when she's one of the most important people in the#entire series.#And of course the sidelining and eventual nerfing of Shiro because the writers simply HAD to get him out of the way to achieve their#desired team line-up.#Until they were delivered the ultimate reality check in the form of an order from the higher-ups that they couldn't permanently kill a#popular character who also happens to be a gay man#leaving them scrambling like the clowns they were to figure out how to reintegrate him into the story.#Then the voice actor for *their* 'Chosen One' had scheduling conflicts that made him unavailable to them for a significant chunk of time.#Call me petty but I call that karma.#If they hadn't been dead set on killing Shiro they could have avoided the entire ridiculous clone plot because he still would have been#a member of the team and easily able to step back into his previous role of Black Paladin had Steven Yeun's outside job commitments#unavoidably necessitated Keith being M.I.A. for a period.#But I expect too much of showrunners who couldn't handle having a disabled main lead and exploited his sexuality for internet brownie#points despite having every intention of killing him and keeping him dead.

Actually wild the way some (!) of the fully verbal & LSN people treat me at the workshop.
I was sitting in a swing today, facing the other way, face not visible. I hear someone ask "oh who's that over there?" A second voice goes "idk, ask him who he is?" And a third goes "noo dont ask [for his name], he doesnt speak, he uses a talker" like. So I can communicate with you. The term talker is pretty on the fucking nose. But youre still telling someone else not to approach me? Because I guess communicating with me is "weird"???!
Calling my vocal stims I cant control most of the time gross, getting angry at me, constantly trying to get the others around them to agree with them how shitty I am for vocally stimming. same person who speaks all day which overstimulates others too, but the thing is, everyone else mostly copes in their own way with headphones, taking breaks outside, etc. Nothing they ever attempted. There were multiple other repetitive noises going on at the time too (hammering etc), but I'm the one to be targeted ofc.... & then refusing to use my name when referring to me & instead using things like "that one".
Finding out that I can sometimes speak short words etc and then just walking up to me daily and going "say x word!" "Can you say x word?" As if I'm a fucking dog performing a trick for their entertainment
Etc
#its not. everyone by far but just wtf#like ahhhh ok u really dont see me as equally human do you#actually autistic#autistic community#medium support needs#actually disabled#aac user#not gonna let them like ruin a place i mostly enjoy but its just. wild.#esp bc ive noticed there is a degree to which they will tolerate “visible disabled” behaviors but it's usually just...#“is this person incredibly nice to me & super cheerful” like wtf#you should also respect people who arent constantly super uwu sweet actually. btw.

‘Jay Merrick looks so weirddd, he’s like the ugliest one in the cas-‘
You will be dead by morning.
#If you genuinely believe that man is ugly solely based off his facial features I’m like obligated to rip the skin off the backs of your knee#Like it’s not a big deal but I am definitely side eyeing you and your perception on people who look different#You meet a person with wide set bug eyes and suddenly forget how to be nice#It’s weird how many people I see assume he has some sort of syndrome or disability based off his features like idk guys I think you’re taki#This a step way too far and uhm! I’m gonna block you!!#Marble Hornets

I personally like Thunder's prosthetic. Explained it to my friend (who does use a mobility device, a cane and wheelchair, and listens to me rant and infodump about BB) and they agreed, it's important to know that not every person needs what someone wants to give them. It's another example of "bad ableist person does a thing that hurts a disabled person because they are bad and ableist".
Clear Sky got Jagged Peak killed and would have killed Sunlit Frost! He would absolutely force his disabled son to be "normal" and present it like a privilege. "I wouldn't do this for anyone else, it's special, why don't you want to be helped?"
Thunder Storm should toss it in Clear Sky's face. (I would say toss it into the river but we do not pollute waterways in this house)
Thank you for telling me this, and tell your friend I'm thanking them too! If they have anything else to add please forward what they have to say
Since BB!DOTC tackles some of the heaviest topics in the entire series because its canon equivalent is so dark, I think very carefully about what I do here and how I show it. I take feedback on its sensitive aspects very seriously. If I'm understanding the criticism properly, it's that I should avoid stigmatizing prosthetics by making sure Thunder Storm's not the only one with it-- which he's not! And I'll add even more.
I don't want to avoid something only because it's uncomfortable if the topic is important, and my portrayal is respectful. Ableism IS uncomfortable! There are some situations where a prosthetic is not wanted! I think the rejection of this particular one is both a good opportunity to show a type of ableism and ALSO is very fitting for the characters.
In BB!Clear Sky's mind, the villain, he's fixing an old mistake. He can't admit that he got Jagged Peak killed or take REAL accountability for it (though he will, occasionally, apologize insincerely), but deep in his bones, he knows what he did was cruel. He'll never tell anyone this because he doesn't really cognate it himself, but Thunder Storm NEEDS to take his gift.
If Thunder doesn't take it, it blows a hole in his newest story. You see, throwing Jagged Peak out was All That Could Have Been Done back then. It was a Tragedy and he simply Made A Hard Choice. He regrets it very much, But You Have To Understand.
But now? Now? Well, behold. Look at what he's accomplished since the tragic death of his little brother. His cats are well-fed, cared for, and stable enough to make such incredible advancements. If only Jagged Peak had been able to hold on longer, if only he could be here now, I could fix him.
Just like I can (MAKE YOU JUST LIKE ME) fix you.
"Everything I've ever done is for Jagged Peak. For Fluttering Wing. For you." Thunder Sky is SPECIAL, but if he rejects any gift, tries to turn down the "privileges" offered to him, in an instant that becomes ungratefulness and arrogance. He both forces him to be special, and then leverages it against him if it's rejected. "Spoiled brat, doesn't appreciate what I've worked so hard to give him."
It all goes back to him and his own guilt. He can NEVER be wrong. He can't accept his family doesn't have to be "normal" or reflect his own ability. He won't see himself as a bully, let alone a murderer. It was never about his son's comfort or finding out what Thunder Storm wants or needs, it was about his own ego.
...All that said I'm still taking feedback if there's anything else I should keep in mind, or if anyone has a counter point, especially if you also have experience here.
(In the interest of having a link trail for posterity, here's the critique/call for feedback this is in response to)
#ALSO also I will take suggestions on other characters who should have prosthetics#Sunlit makes sense and it will make a really nice character moment later for him to have one built#There's also an amputee in RiverClan few people talk about called Stonestream#I can give him one and bump him up into a bigger character. In BB he is the sibling of Willowshine#BB!DOTC#better bones au#Also just as a side note... I love writing BB!Skystar. My ire for the character comes from his redemption arc so I feel like I get to--#--write the character I WANTED to see#Same with Bramble in other BB arcs#cw ableism#tw ableism#ableism#They're fascinating in that they always have to see themselves as the victim or the hero#They believe every lie they tell.#If you ever catch them in a contradiction they will still try to find some way to turn it on you and YOUR lack of understanding.#Interestingly both of them are ableist. Sky's is just more obvious because he's LOUDLY bigoted.#But BB!Bramble is *notably* less close to Jay for a very sad and very subtle reason.#Jay just doesn't serve his ego like the others do until much later in his life.#unfortunately most bigotry is like that.#the type you have a hard time calling out because it's a deniable bias. the constant gaslighting of being part of a marginalized group#Maybe I need to address the criticism by adding a character with a prosthetic to THIS arc even earlier#Problem is that like... Thunder's small merc group is already full of disabled characters and their THING is forming in response to ableism#OH maybe I'll put someone in the Forest Cat group which is lead by Slash?#I need to finish that last book and then gather up all the cats for sorting into allegiances

thinking yet again about Saiki‘s’s final choice in the series being “I’d rather live with my powers than die without them” bc that is seriously the single best ending of a disability narrative I’ve seen. Fuck.
#The thing people don’t tell u about being physically disabled#Is that you’ll see the physically abled people in your life start to view you as something tragic#And while they rarely say it when it comes down to things#They think you’re better dead than disabled. That you’d be happier put out of your misery.#Even with stories involving disabled characters (If we’re anything beyond a background diversity shot which is… rare)#It’s about “curing” or “overcoming” your disability which is I guess a nice sentiment but most of us won’t ever do that#Saiki doesn’t do either of those things#He wants to be cured and briefly thinks he is but then it’s discovered that he Cant be cured bc his powers are part of the whole of him#He doesn’t ever overcome them either#He just puts his glasses back on and decides that if it means he can live another day then he’ll continue to deal with them#And his powers are progressive#And that’s a thing weighing on him but it’s never treated like a death sentence#It’s just something he has to and will deal with#And it sucks but what else is he gonna do#It’s just. Aughhhhh. Aaaaaauuuuughhhhhhhhh……..#This post was brought to u by a man grieving his own mobility#physically disabled#physical disability#saiki k

According to all these ablebodied conservatives, killing disabled people isn’t fascist. As if the Nazis didn’t literally target disabled people first. What a bunch of dumb fucking cunts. Y’all are literally too stupid to argue with 😂
#trying to argue that what happened to disabled ppl during Katrina wasn’t pure fucking evil makes you an insane person#get the fuck off of my blog if you think killing disabled people en masse is a normal US policy feature#you are a fucking freak and not in the nice way

If you mess with somebody's mobility/life-preserving aid and all you got was yelled at by the disabled person in question, just know you got off easy. Fucking with somebody's aid can easily become a matter of life-or-death, so you have to understand why somebody would "lash out" about that.
#disability#ableism#ableism tw#reminder that fucking with somebody's aid can easily be classified under physical assault (which is what it is)#still fuming about the time my dad talked about how other people would fuck with his CPAP machine since it *has* to be plugged in an outlet#like. do you understand that not having a CPAP machine can easily either severely negatively affect somebody or kill them..#like why would the thought even cross your mind to risk somebody's life or wellbeing like that#but like. it just kind of reminds me that people can be really thoughtless about what they do and cause and effect#like at this point it's self-defense in my eyes and if you're yelled at i don't have sympathy#i will understand if you thought you were being nice but that's where my understanding ends#this is why i like when people have huge patches/stickers on their aids that are like 'DO NOT TOUCH ME' or 'I WILL BITE IF YOU TOUCH ME'#just as examples. but like. yes you shouldn't need to put that there in the first place but it is iconic#it is in-your-face and direct and it reminds everybody around you that it is up to *them* to treat *you* as an equal to abled people#it is bleak though and i hate that people have the need to put them there in the first place#if i ever needed to use more visible or 'obtrusive' aids then i'd absolutely do the same thing though
