I love Doctor Who for many reasons. Some of them silly, some of them less so.

Overall it's a show that deeply encourages and values empathy and the pursuit of knowledge over violence, over making assumptions of others, over asserting power or pursuing it altogether.

I met a particularly unsavory person irl via work recently and something about her stories...the way she scapegoats strangers so intuitively to break the silence. Her value set appears completely devoid of the good I mentioned above. While her character overall may still hold some decency that time would reveal, I've lived long enough to understand the value of the stories we tell to others and how that reflects on us in turn.

I am so relieved to have something like Doctor Who in my life because I've met so many people over the years who would instill a lasting edge of cynicism in me if they were all I knew.

Watching this show in all it's eras feels like being home; feels warm and inclusive. It's not a home I had but it's a home I have. Additionally so, it's like the audience, cast, and crew are telling a joke together and it's meant to make us all laugh (keyword ALL). The warmth I feel often comes from knowing most of my laughter watching this show has never been at the expense of someone else.

I've heard it plenty of times...if someone has to insult or belittle others it's a sign they feel small and seek to lash out. That's all well and good if you're on a cloud above but if you live in a world where others routinely use this method, albeit often as a form of social bonding, the wariness sets in and the weight of a deep sadness can intensify; calcify given enough time.

Doctor Who alleviates that sadness for me.

Its like a long essay written in favor of humanity. I'm reading it over and over again finding bits and bobs to take back with me before I return to the everyday; to that world full of small people desperate to feel big.

To those of us that relate to this show, I hope you know know how amazing I believe you are. 🥰 I hope these words can resonate with you because I think this show highlights a quiet wisdom we've earned one way or another in our lives.

We share in that wisdom not because we want to feel superior but because we want to believe in the good in people. I myself can not confidently inform you of any inherent good or selfish drive (and I studied philosophy for pity's sake) but I can say when we have a shared space as vast as Doccy Who to entertain us and provide us with endless horizons of exploration, we begin to share in a common mind. We bond with each other in ways that last. We grasp at the opportunity of building a legacy worth standing.

Just make it a good one, eh?

love the idea of obito living after the war and he’s assigned to kakashi’s guard as a type of “community service” and people will pass them in a store and obito is grumbling about how he should’ve killed kakashi, the hokage, when he had a chance and kakashi blithely points out that obito’s has had SEVERAL opportunities to kill him over the last several years. but all the villagers hear is the crazy mass murderer war criminal telling their hokage he wants to kill him and kakashi just :3 *shrugs* because if obito wanted to kill him, he would have.

I think Vulcans should have their own version of a goodbye kiss which isn't a one-to-one equivalent but like, parents cup one or both of their childs' cheeks before they leave the house and when they come home as a brief telepathic check up on their wellbeing. If the child is feeling out of sorts the parent can help calm/settle them quickly. It becomes embarrassing at different ages like "Father! I am more than capable of maintaining my own equilibrium without your assistance or supervision." It's something most parents stop doing regularly after their child reaches some maturity milestone which proves they're able to regulate their own emotions (there is no agreed-upon age this is true so it varies from child to child. Within sibling groups you might get made fun of if your younger sibling reaches this milestone before you!) However, even into adulthood some Vulcans will be subjected to the practice every so often by a parent. Depending on your temperament this can feel insulting, just unnecessary, or...pleasantly familiar.

Meanwhile donnie and bros dont see it that that. They see leo as equal, even without wings, they never once thought of it as leaving him behind. Because hes their brother, theyd NEVER leave him behind.

But then that got me thinking... did they accidentally like ACTUALLY leave leo behind that first night donnie made his wings. Cause i can see donnie and the ither two being caught up in the joy of flying together for the first time, maybe going too fast for leo to keep up on the rooftops, cementing the idea in his head that his bros dont need him.

This is long winded lol i just got angst on my mind 😭

As for your question: Absolutely, yes, that moment struck Leo down to his core — but not like. Personally. He knows Donnie didn’t mean it like that! Realistically, he understands that his brothers/sister care just as much about him as he does about them. They’d never purposefully leave him behind!! At the end of the day, he trusts that, should he ever get seriously knocked down, his family would turn right back around to help him get back up.

But he still has a MAJOR barrier that he sees between them. One that Donnie AND April are now able to literally fly over. And now that he’s outnumbered, that wall feels even higher than before. He’s not alone, not ever, but it certainly feels like it sometimes…

And all of that is exactly why he doesn’t want to say anything. He not only feels a little silly to have this impossible dream in the first place (his hoard is literally birds and butterflies and shit, that’s so weird and pathetic, isn’t it???), but he doesn’t WANT them to worry about him. He doesn’t want them to turn tail and come back just to make sure he’s keeping up with them. He can’t hold them back like that!

It’s better to pretend he’s on the same level, train himself into the ground (even literally if that’s what it takes) to prove he’s on the same level, make them focus on his stellar swimming skills that are (to them) on par to their flying, than for them to ever realize that all he’ll ever do is look up at them from below.

Also, yes, after Dee made his first fully functioning flight pack, they all went on a quick flight around the city. April was the one to suggest they move it to the ocean so Leo could at least keep up with them and cheer them on…

i love people headcanoning characters as autistic, until they only do that to the stupid characters or the childish characters or the “innocent” characters and then it’s like oh. uh. that’s not.

you know, an interpretation of ct that I don't see that I personally really love is that she's a fuck up. like yes she's cool and she has some good fight scenes, but a huge part of her character is that she makes mistakes. the mistakes that she makes are ones that on their own aren't the end of the world, but she keeps making these little mistakes, and they eventually add up until she's out of room to make any more.

a really good example of this phenomenon in action is the actions she took leading up to her final confrontation with carolina and tex.

strike one, she thought she saw something in the water, but when asked by the leader what it was, she brushed it off as nothing when even if it had been nothing, it would've been smart to tell him what she thought she saw.

strike two, she didn't sense or notice florida's presence when the leader did, and she looks at the leader twice, once as she pulled out her magnums, and again after she did a scan of the room, almost like she was looking at him for guidance before he finds florida and takes him out with one good axe throw.

strike three, she couldn't convince the leader to leave when they had the chance to get away, and her cheap tricks were not enough to hold off either tex or carolina in a fight. they were only good for incapacitating her opponents enough for her to get away, which doesn't work when she has no escape.

ct is not tex, or carolina, or south. she is not a one woman army who can get herself out of trouble when she's stuck in tough situations. she needs people who can watch her back, she need a team who can cover her when she does mess up, and the leader and his team were not those people. she couldn't bring herself to trust them, and they couldn't bring themselves to trust her, and that cost all of them their lives.
