ᯓ★ the summer we lost • chapter 2
summary: it was supposed to be the perfect summer—just before college, you and your online friend "william" had planned out meeting this summer, but everything came to a screeching halt when your parents dropped the bomb that you had to get a job at a family friend’s dance studio. so instead of having fun, you’re stuck teaching kids who can barely stay on their feet, alongside a girl you can’t stand. now, while your friends are living their summer, you’re tangled up in a mess of pirouettes, bratty 7-year-olds, and a summer you’ll never get back. warnings: angst | mature language | sexual content | substance consumption
authors note: chapter twoo!! wc: 1.5k the summer we lost masterlist
after your first class, you walk into the break room, the buzz of the fan doing little to cut through the heat left clinging to your skin. your lunch isn’t anything fancy—just a sandwich you threw together in five minutes this morning—but honestly? it’s the highlight of your day so far. anything’s better than wrangling a room full of seven-year-olds who can’t keep their shoes on.
you flop onto the couch and pull out your phone, scrolling aimlessly. nothing from william. not yet. and the silence makes your chest ache in a way you weren’t ready for. this day was supposed to be yours. a beach day. a “laughing with her in the sun” kind of day. not... this.
the door creaks open and in walks luna, holding a plastic cup of iced coffee like it’s sacred. she drops onto the couch beside you with a smug little smile.
“soooo... how was class?” she asks, sipping casually—like she’s just waiting for the drama.
you throw your head back with a dramatic groan. “honestly? i’m considering faking my death.”
“already? it’s your first day,” luna says, bumping your shoulder. “they can’t be that bad.”
“they’re actual gremlins,” you deadpan. “i spent twenty minutes teaching them how to do a simple pirouette, and they spent the entire time spinning in random directions, knocking each other over, and calling it ‘modern dance.’”
luna snorts, nearly choking on her coffee. “okay, but that’s kind of iconic?”
“it wasn’t when one of them tried to do a cartwheel and landed on his face.”
“okay, yeah, no. that’s a lawsuit waiting to happen,” she says, still laughing. “but i bet you looked cute yelling at them.”
“cute?” you scoff, tossing a chip at her. “girl, i looked like i was about to have a nervous breakdown.”
“at least you’re getting fifty bucks an hour to suffer,” she says with a wink.
you sigh, nodding. “that part is nice.”
“sooo,” luna hums. “anything else happen?”
you eye her. “you sound suspiciously nosy.”
“i am suspiciously nosy,” she grins.
you laugh, and for a second, you forget how exhausted you are. it feels... nice. normal. like maybe this summer won’t be a total disaster.
until the door opens again—and you freeze.
billie’s standing in the doorway, arms crossed, eyes sharp as ever. her gaze flicks to you, then to luna.
“luna, can i talk to you for a sec?” she asks, voice smooth but clipped.
“sure,” luna says, grabbing her iced coffee and standing. “you need anything from the front?”
“no.”
then her eyes cut back to you before she turns and walks out. no explanation. just... gone.
you barely suppress an eye-roll. luna gives you a look, but you don’t explain. what would you even say? sorry i think your boss might actually be the devil?
you sigh, focus shifting back to your sandwich—suddenly heavy in your hands.
your phone buzzes. finally.
5 unread texts
w: oh well mom: what time are you done today? can you pick up eggs? aaliyah: beach party tomorrow at 6 be there.
you swipe to open william's first.
w:oh well
your stomach dips.
short. flat. colder than usual. not mean—just distant. not her.
you wait for something else. a follow-up. a joke. anything soft.
nothing.
you stare at the screen a second longer before locking your phone and tossing it next to your bag. a knot tightens in your chest.
“oh well?”
you’re not sure if you’re mad or just disappointed. maybe both. maybe neither. maybe you’re just tired.
the door creaks open again. you glance up, expecting luna.
it’s billie.
alone.
she steps in like she owns the air around her. leans against the counter. unscrews the cap on a water bottle. her gaze drags across the room until it lands on you—and stays there.
you immediately look down at your sandwich like it’s suddenly the most fascinating thing you’ve ever seen. pretend your heart isn’t racing. pretend her voice doesn’t already live in the back of your head.
“so,” she says, voice light but sharp around the edges. “you always this quiet, or are you just scared of me?”
you blink. “what?”
she takes a sip, eyes never leaving yours. “i heard you with the kids. all sweet voice and fake cheer. now you’re acting mute.”
“i’m eating.”
“and i’m talking,” she fires back. “one of us is better at multitasking.”
your grip tightens on your sandwich.
she steps closer—not threatening, just deliberate. like she’s studying your reaction. “poor baby, you wanna join the kids class i think they speak more than you”
“i can talk,” you snap, heat rushing to your face.
“then do it,” she shrugs. “always so quiet around me? i don't bite baby”
you glare. “did you seriously come in here just to mess with me?”
“no,” she says flatly. “but watching you squirm’s a decent bonus.”
your mouth opens. you’re not even sure what to say. what did you do to piss her off?
“what is your problem?” you mutter.
she grins. it doesn’t reach her eyes.
“you.”
and with that, she walks out—like she didn’t just flip your entire nervous system upside down.
later that night you’re lying in bed, face smushed into your pillow, scrolling with one hand. your chest is still buzzing—billie’s voice echoing, her smirk burned into your brain, the weight of her gaze like it never left.
your phone lights up.
w: i think i have a crush on this girl and it’s ruining my life
you: ok drama who?? tell me everything rn
w: no bc it’s actually bad i can’t let her know i’ve literally been a bitch to her all day and now i feel crazy
you: wait wait wait you LIKE her and you’re being MEAN to her????
w: okay listen i panicked i didn’t mean to be mean she just makes me feel weird and i hate it like?? why is she cute. why is she funny i can’t think straight
you: girl that is so embarrassing for u
w: pls be so fr
you: okay but like why did that lowkey happen to me today too like my boss??? i swear she has it out for me she’s so rude for no reason
w: that sucks omg wait was it hot?? is she hot???
you: both. she's so fine it's unreal
w: STOP ok but what if she secretly likes you
you: she literally told me i was her problem
w: mmmmm enemies to lovers my fave
you: not when i’m the enemy
w: could be worse at least your crush doesn’t think you’re a bitch
you: i mean... mine might tbh
w: well idk what to say then read 11:48pm
you let the phone rest on your chest, screen still glowing faintly in the dark. your lips twitch into a small smile.
you were scared things had changed. that maybe this summer meant something different now. that her silence earlier was the start of some slow, quiet unraveling.
but lying here now, in the quiet, you feel that familiar warmth return—like it always does.
the 2 a.m. calls. the way she types in lowercase. the shared playlists, the inside jokes, the way she never has to say much for you to feel understood. you exhale. just a little softer than before.

💚💚 Deru my brain is struggling to come up with a proper response to that compliment 🥹💚💚 thank you! You’re sweet! 😭💚
I haven’t tried zucchini bread before! But yes, it is absolutely on the menu
oh and Nagi’s @philistiniphagottini given me two more sources of produce: Ororon and Aragaki Shinjiro from P3. And Shinji’s gonna be part timing too!
(lol whatever team Osamu has it’s getting totaled by yours - it’s okay though because we make sure to care for his Pokémon and give them treats here at the cafe)
absolutely you can put up a sign, or even signs, for Leon! His business is always welcome! Maybe Hop can help him with his direction too? Maybe I can get a permit from the town and we can paint little waddle marks on the pavement from where he usually stays to the cafe.
that would be so cute. I’d just dip my Quaxly’s feet in paint and leave it to waddle.
I can also see Hinata helping Leon get to the cafe, despite them being in direct competition for your affections. In fact knowing Hinata that’s exactly why he makes sure to help him.
also, you can bet we have a mini Deru fanclub, we just don’t even realize it, someone without fail mentions you and we just collectively start gushing over how cool and kind you are. I generally stop before they do because I’m working, they stop because they get far off looks in their eyes for a moment (thinking about you)
oh the duel biker gang is more than welcome! I’ll make sure to have milk ready for Yusei! I’ll have some coffee, but it won’t be Blue Eyes White Mountain or anything - that’s too expensive for a single customer, so hopefully Jack will be okay with a normal cappuccino/americano. Crow, I’ll make whatever he likes, he’s probably reasonable with his spendings so I’d probably have the ingredients for it! Oh and he can 10/10 be my delivery guy
how did you know I was going to cover Al-Haitham with a blanket? I was thinking about it but forgot to add it in! You read my mind! 💚 I feel like his response to that is that he figured I’d be the one to cover him up through a simple “process of elimination.”
You know Al-Haitham is either still at the cafe or has passed by, if I’m asking for an opinion on some kinda philosophical topic. We will, 90% of the time get into some kinda debate or discussion about something. I think he’s starting to enjoy them.
ahhh Kuroooo. Thank youuuu! I get the feeling he’s going to tease me for being so much shorter than him. (Maybe I’m too short for him, he’s definitely over a foot taller than me as an adult) He’s probably going to call you out like: “I see what you’re doing here, trying to set me up with your friend.”
Also he has absolutely brought a volleyball along and taught the local kids how to play. He probably started crushing on me when I installed a net curtain around the duck pond in the back in case they played together again.
He’s brought Kenma to chill with the ducks. The ducks like Kenma.
dear moots
I am now tempted to make a super-indulgent au that is me having a duck cafe and doting on all of you while laughing at all your f/o’s falling on each other trying to impress all of you.
@birinboom @true-deru @philistiniphagottini @dawns-breath
the cast:
Jing Yuan: he has an extensive flower garden and tends to the greenery in the cafe. He also uses it to sell plants out of too. Does not need a winglady, but could convince me.
Charlotte Katakuri: his job is a mystery but he likes donuts and is fiercely protective of his siblings. Needs to tell me more about his work before I’d be fully onboard being his wing lady.
Champion Leon: a Pokémon champion that comes over to see Deru primarily, but he’s a good guy that takes home treats and drinks for his friends/fam. Could convince me to winglady for him. My Quaxly likes him.
Blade: local blacksmith. Seems to have had a rough past. I have a sneaking suspicion he has a crush on Nagi. An attempt to sneak laxatives into his drink has resulted in some tensions that were smoothed over after I asked him to help me with some repairs. I now know he likes Nagi because she’s the only reason things smoothed over. Also my Quaxly seems okay with him.
Mydei: my source of pomegranates. Though his feud with Em has me looking for another source. Em are you mad at me for continuing to get pomegranates from him?
Hinata Shoyo: sunshine that is more than welcome in the duck cafe. Brings his unfairly attractive friends along. I thank Deru for this business. They met up to catchup there and now he comes by whenever he’s here to visit Deru. He would ask me to winglady for him and I would. I’m already convinced.
Hoshina Soushiro: he’s from out of town. Dunno how he found out Em comes to my cafe but now he comes in for a visit and tries to make moves on her in my presence. I have successfully given him laxatives once.
Kyosuke Kiryu: went through a phase. Is only allowed in my cafe because Deru vouched for him and his Absol detected something was wrong and saved me and my cafe. Something about him makes me not want to attempt to give him the runs. Like he’s been through enough. Deru enjoys his company and we play duel monsters so he’s cool.
Dennis McField: I think he found this place while chatting up with Nagi. I suspect I got to watch the moment he fell in love. Either way he managed to convince me to have a weekly duel club.
the cafe has a weekly book club, a weekly duel club, fresh flowers for sale (in both arrangements and pots), a small library of books that you can read from while you chill there. Library is accepting donations. I have been talked into hosting baking classes.
now I need help:
Who is my potato source?
who is my lemons source? (Lemonade and lemon loaf are two signature items)
who do I get my veggies from?
and should I compete with Osamu Miya and have onigiri too?
oh and who else should I add to the duck cafe au? Give me your f/o’s!!
our jams and juices are homemade using locally sourced produce.
I dunno if I’m going to add in Al-Haitham or not as an irregular visitor from out of town. But maybe while I’m giggling over you and your f/o’s being cute you guys can have a laugh at my f/o’s failing to get me to notice them.

not lance reposting the joe doing the griddy video on HIS story with a bunch of laughing emojis!
#i am SOOOO curious about their relationship#i know that lance and tee follow each other and have been in pictures/on stream together#but like. what is the dynamic like between joe and lance??#because in Normal Football World. there would be zero reason for the star QB to interact with some practice squad corner#(if he's even on the practice squad at this point!)#but when that seemingly insignificant player is the oldest friend of of that star qb's bestie/boyfriend/life partner??#do you think they're JEALOUS of each other???#do you think it's awkward because they both claim a different but significant portion of ja'marr's heart??#do you think it's totally fine and normal but also like they each have Opinions of each other#that they may or may not share with ja'marr#i have spent many nights pondering this#the idea of all the undrafted rookies showing up for training camp#barely acknowledged by joe. because again. why would he. he is a god they are ants etc etc (mean but that's the normal dynamic!)#but joe going out of his way to talk to lance because he's so important to ja'marr??#and therefore important to joe#joe wanting to know the parts of ja'marr he wasn't around to see when they were kids??#joe threatened by an undrafted guy??#ja'marr wasn't there for most of OTAs/voluntary stuff right??#so would the other guys have no idea what was going on lmao#ANYWAY. i'm just rambling at this point#it was very cute that lance thinks joe's griddy is so funny.#they probably are friends. if not super close or anything#:')#lance robinson#^i think i'm the only one in this tag

Dp x DC prompt #13 (yay lucky number!)
What if Danny is introduced to the family not as a gremlin, but as his friend from community College and he is so freaking normal that it makes the entire family suspicious. The only reason Jason decided to bring him along is that he knows Danny seems too normal for their cohort and it will utterly freak out Bruce and Tim, confuse Grayson and set off Damian. Jason though, he knows Danny is only normal for the first few times of interaction, then he starts getting weird even by Bat Family standards.
Jason: Hey. I brought my friend from campus tonight.
Danny: Hi! Nice to meet you!
Bat family: *suspicious eyes* Nice to meet you.
Danny: I totally didn't believe Jason when he said he was one of 5 kids but he proved me wrong. Lol.
Bat family: How'd you meet Jason?
Danny: OH! He's been tutoring me in English class and I've been helping him with Calculus. We met at the library when I was trying but failing to type a paper and ended up irritating him with my groaning. He walked right over asked me to shut up and I apologized and said I was having difficulty *insert English homework here* and he had a look utter disgust and surprise and said "how the fuck are you having problems with that?"
Jason: I was disgusted. That was such an easy topic.
Danny: For you maybe! Anyways I said "Well if it's so fucking easy, explain it to me. And he did! With way better clarity then my professor. So I thanked him and asked what I could do in exchange for help. He then told to stay fucking quiet o he can work on his stuff. And we went on about our business. A week later we were both back in the library again and he was banging his head, so I went over and asked if he was okay and he yelled to leave him alone and he just as I was about to leave I noticed he was working on calculus and told Jim I could help if he wanted. He looked at me like I was insane.
Jason: I was cause you are. Most people don't ask to help after being yelled and cursed at.
Danny: But you had helped me on my english paper! I wanted to return the favor! This happened a few more times before it became normal to meet at the library and work together!
The batfamily is reeling at this strangely normal and meet cute type story and the fact that Jason was going to college and nobody knew somehow (Alfred knew).
After meeting Danny, they stalk him to see if he was acting normal or trying to mess with Jason or Jason manipulated someone normal to mess with them. The first while Danny seems perfectly normal and innocent but after a while they start getting a feeling of something off about Danny like he was both him and not. They also notice that Jason tends to stay calmer when he is around Danny. As they realize he is weird and they slowly figure it out, they actually get less anxious about Danny. As someone not quite normal or human in Danny's case was far more comforting for them then anyone of them managing to befriend an actual normal civilian with no apparent baggage or extreme homelife. idk why but i just needed to get this off my chest :p
warnings: a little bit of corruption + dom reader + handjobs
Personally, I absolutely love the idea of having a "straight" guy as one of your favorite bros. The two of you have such a good relationship, always meeting up at the gym with each other, bringing an extra water bottle for the other, hanging out at each other's home, great stuff. Until he brings up the idea of blowing off some steam by jerking each other off. Like bros though, of course.
And like a good friend, you agree because that's what bros do! Totally not because of his perfectly sculpted arms, that big and bouncy chest, and thighs that would absolutely crush you between them. Of course not.
Little do you know, your bro has been struggling with a little crush on you. By crush, he means that he needs you to fuck him so hard he breaks. He always thought he was straight, never even gave it much thought besides the guys he would see once in a while that he would find hot if he were a girl. That was until the moment he saw you half-naked in the showers, his eyes nearly glued to you unclothed dick. He couldn't help but feel a throb himself while he ogled your form.
Of course he was still straight! It was only normal that a male would want to size up another male, just guys being guys. And it's pretty normal for guys to jerk off together, right?
Maybe he was wrong.
He can barely keep up with your precum slicked hand moving up and down your cocks, he's too busy whimpering and fucking up into your fist. He's letting out whines of Bro, slow down and Too much, if only he could hear himself, how pathetic he sounds nearly losing his mind just from getting jerked off by another man, his bro.
He's so damn sexy like this, his brows scrunched up as he holds back his tears. Beads of sweat roll down his flushed and panting face. You might pull on his dick a little too hard, but he's so cute you can't help yourself. His eeks of pleasure only worsens(betters) his situation.
By the time he's already shot his load, another one upcoming, you finally release. As his mind tries its best to unscramble itself, he can't help but want to do something like this again, or even go further. You may call him gay for it, but you have to understand, right? It's just bros helping out bros.
#vetty's thirsts. ✿#dom reader#top reader#top male reader#bottom male character#sub male character#totally writing a part 2#i wanted to add a straight to gay tag lol

Accidentally Sleeping Together
♡ Genre: Fluff, suggestive ♡ Pairing: Bakugou x Reader (Imagine the bunny on the right is Bakugou, afraid of you waking up O-o)
Bakugou's arms curled tight around you, his sleepy fingers running across your skin rhythmically. It took his similarly sleepy brain a couple of seconds before he realized that this wasn't a beautiful dream.
This was real.
Bakugou leapt off you, his back slamming into his dorm wall. He rubbed the back of his head, swore several expletives at nothing in particular, and then assessed the damage.
You slept together last night. He didn't remember if it was an accident or if you two... did something, but his head was not 100% there yet in the morning.
You were even slower than him to wake, but he could see your figure rustling, and all he could think was "Crap, crap, crap, crap!" It was like he was pinned against the wall. Even if he had an easy exit route, he couldn't exactly walk out on you without proving his innocence first. Or making sure you were okay.
You finally opened your eyes, wiping them. Tentatively, Bakugou spoke.
"Hey, we need to--"
You shrieked and Bakugou cringed from the noise. You sat upright, whipping your head around like it was on a swivel, pure shock on your cute little face. Bakugou was the same amount of scared, but unlike you he was frozen.
"What did we do?!" you cried.
"I don't know!"
"Did we sleep together?!"
"I don't fucking know!"
Bakugou's heart was racing. The fact that you even considered sleeping with him as a possible event within this point of space and time just totally befuddled him. If this whole ordeal didn't screw over his chances with you, then his stupidly hopeful heart could take this as a good sign.
He chose his next words very carefully.
"Did we?" he asked, a little eyebrow cocked and his voice low.
You stared at him, the gears turning in your adorable thoughtless head. He wondered what things you were thinking right now. Your face was normally pure and innocent and cute, but your mind was typically evil and mischievous and always thinking of ways to prank and tease him, so it was hard to say what was happening in there at this exact moment. But being your best friend and all, he had some ideas of what you were probably thinking of.
He shouldn't be focusing on that right now though. Although you didn't look uncomfortable or creeped out, you were the type of person who'd struggle to voice your negative thoughts in a time like this. And as your best friend, Bakugou had to make sure you were okay. It was like, his calling in life.
"You alright?" he asked, snapping you out of your reverie. "I would never take advantage of you. You know that, right?"
"I know," you said, almost immediately. Bakugou was a little proud of your trust and your strong connection together.
"Are you okay?" he asked, again.
"Yeah, I'm okie dokie... Are you?"
You reached out to his face and he realized he had been blushing for some time now.
"I'm sorry," you said. "Did I scare you? Did I sleep here on accident? Can't believe I crashed in your room..."
"Don't apologize to me! Jeez. You're always apologizing to other people. I'm fine. I would never be creeped out by you. In fact, you've almost fucking dozed off here a couple of times in the past. You just don't remember 'cause I carried you back each time." That last part was a bit of a brag.
"Oh?" you cocked your head. "But you didn't tonight. Guess you were too much of a lazy little sleepy head yesterday."
"No more than you!"
That was how you both ended up grinning at each other, faces too close and somewhat red, but happy all the same.
If you weren't uncomfortable, if you were even smiling at him, Bakugou wanted to push things further. Your lips were only several centimeters away, and he wanted to close the distance. But he couldn't risk it unless he knew for sure you'd want him to.
"Had a good sleep, then?" he asked, voice rumbly and still low while his smirk never left his face. "After all, it's my bed."
"I would've, but maybe someone was hogging all the sheets." You mock glared at him, but you didn't back away.
"Well I bought them," he retorted. "Didn't think I'd get a new roommate tonight."
"Maybe I'll just steal your bed and then we won't have a problem."
"You're gonna steal my bed with me in it?"
You lightly slapped his chest and he laughed. You were laughing too, but dammit even if it was funny, he wasn't entirely joking...
Still, he couldn't say he was unhappy.
"Seriously can't fucking believe I woke up to you today," he said, letting some of his true adoration for you spread across his face. "Next time you sleep here, I'm not carrying you back..."
While he still had the chance, he needed to push things further, so you'd understand where he really stood on this situation. Bakugou had enough of all the near-miss kisses in your relationship. He wanted more.
Your hands cupped his face and he stayed put, obediently.
"You won't need to," you whispered.
His fingers grabbed your chin. "I don't ever want to."
And with that, he kissed you, finally.

yandere! parasite who decides to inhabit your body after observing you from his previous host. you're so cute! you'll definitely be a lot more comfortable to be in over this... fumbling fool that's obsessed with you.
the switch is seamless and you don't even realize that you have a parasite in you until he speaks.
you were stunned, where did this voice come from? you look around you, thinking your boss or coworker had called for you... only for the face of a... translucent and handsome looking man to appear right in front of you.
"hey!"
"what the- where did you come from? wait a minute who even are you?"
"you're so silly. isn't it obvious that i'm a parasite and you're my host?"
"a... parasite?"
you freak out, thinking you have brain eating worms in you as you break down in the middle of your job. fortunately, the lovely parasite in you takes the time to comfort you through your brain.
he tells you that he won't kill you and that he's a symbiotic parasite. that he'll just co-exist with you for as long as you live. that he won't interrupt your life whatsoever, he just needs a place to stay, you know?
at least that's what he tells you and himself.
unbeknownst to him, he had... unfortunately adopted certain characteristics from his previous host. and what did that include? his obsession of course.
he doesn't notice it at first. he was just acting like his normal self, observing your day to day life for about a month or two while interacting happily with you through brain messages. everything was fine and dandy! nothing out of the ordinary for the both of you except for the fact that you now had a parasite in your brain.
and he was quite useful actually! improving your health, boosting your physical strength and stuff... it was so freaking cool! you never knew you could do all these things!
plus, he was so sweet! you two were definitely like a pair of really good friends even if you just met a month or two ago! he's just perfect!
that was, until he saw someone confessing to you.
he didn't understand what was going on. why did his chest tighten up at the sight of some other person confessing their love to you? why does he feel a sudden rush of... anger?
he turns to watch what you do and he swears he only feels more anger at how you react. cheeks flushed, pupils dilated...
no, he couldn't have that.
meanwhile, you were totally flattered by the sudden confession. especially when it was from this cute nerd from the IT department! maybe you'll accept- wait, wait, wait! why was your body moving on its own?!
"you belong to me."
the parasite in your brain mumbles as you lose all control of your body and begin walking away from your admirer. what the?! he's never done this before! why's he taking control of your body?!
"hey! give my body back!"
"how could you do this to me? i am hurt, my dear host."
you couldn't even respond, too shocked to even say anything before you try to resust again. obviously it wouldn't work but it doesn't hurt to try.
"hey cut it out! i thought you said we're just living together? what's this? you totally messed up my chances of getting with someone!"
you were about to snap back when you feel a cold dread creep up your spine. shit, you forgot he could control everything in your body.
you could only watch in horror as he brings your body back to your apartment before he forces your body onto your bed. his translucent body appears in your vision once more, pinning you to the bed. you couldn't even resist even if you tried. he controlled your brain after all.
"you're my host, therefore, you are mine. i do not understand what's so hard to understand."
gritting your teeth, you could only allow this parasitic admirer of yours to stare down at you while grinding his hips into yours. damn, what's he trying to-
"hah... you're so cute... i love you so much... can i explore you? I'm so curious. I've always looked away when you were bare but..."
you couldn't even say no if you tried. your body was responding on its own. damn it! his brain controlling abilities were too good! maybe you should be a parasite in your next life.
"ah... is that a yes? god, i love you. i love you, i love you... i love you so much my darling host."
...
were you about to have mental sex with the parasite living in your body right now?!

Hiii first of all just wanted you to know that you are the best fluff writer I've ever seen secondly i had this cute idea about bau reader and spencer outing their relationship by accident when she shows up wearing one of spencer's mismatched socks like she’s wearing one and he's wearing the other and the team reaction to it specifically morgan and penelope
matching — spencer reid
pairing: spencer reid x fem!reader ( no use of y/n ) content warnings: teasing from the team , secret relationship a/n: hii !! thank you so so much thats such an honor and i hope you like this <3
"I love your apartment," you said with a smile as you slipped off your shoes, stepping onto the plush carpet of Penelope Garcia’s cozy home.
"Why, thank you very much!" Garcia beamed, twirling slightly in excitement. "This is my sacred palace, my whimsical wonderland, my fortress of fabulousness!"
You laughed at her enthusiasm, setting your bag down. She had invited the BAU team over for a small get-together, but judging by the lack of noise , it seemed you were the first to arrive.
"Need help with anything?" you offered, making your way toward the kitchen.
Garcia waved a hand dismissively. "No, no, everything is fine. Completely fine." She smiled. Well, tried to smile. It was the kind of forced expression that made your profiler instincts tingle.
"Penelope," you said knowingly, tilting your head, practically demanding she spill whatever was on her mind.
She let out a dramatic sigh before reaching into the fridge and pulling out—well, something. A cake? A tragic attempt at one? You stared at it, searching for the right words but coming up empty. It was lopsided, unevenly frosted, and slightly collapsed on one side.
"What… happened?" You fought the urge to laugh, biting your lip because this—this was a disaster. And Garcia, who prided herself on being a self-proclaimed Cake Boss, was probably not in the mood for teasing.
"I got distracted," she muttered, poking at the cake with a defeated sigh.
"By…?" you prompted, raising an eyebrow.
She hesitated for a second before mumbling under her breath, "My neighbor."
Your eyes widened. "No way."
Garcia winced, realizing what she just admitted.
"You have a hot neighbor and you didn’t tell me?" you gasped dramatically, placing your hands on your hips as if personally offended. "Penelope Garcia, I thought we were best friends!"
"I was going to tell you!" Garcia defended, throwing her hands up in exasperation.
The two of you turned back to the cake, staring at it like it was a crime scene.
"Well… it doesn’t look that bad," you offered weakly.
Garcia shot you a pointed look, her lips pressed into a thin line.
"I mean, if you put enough frosting on it, maybe you can fix it?" You shrugged, trying to sound hopeful.
She let out a dramatic sigh, leaning against the counter. "There is no hope. It's a lost cause. A cake tragedy," she lamented, waving a hand over the mess.
You were about to reassure her when she suddenly narrowed her eyes at you, eyebrows raising in suspicion. "Wait a second… what on earth are you wearing?"
Confused, you followed her gaze, only to realize what she was looking at. Your socks. Or rather, your mismatched socks.
One was a plain dark blue. Totally normal. The other? A black sock covered in bright white physics equations.
Garcia pointed at it like she had just discovered a federal crime. "Excuse me, ma’am, is that… math?"
Your heart nearly stopped.
"Oh—uhm…" You cleared your throat, scrambling for an excuse. "It looked cute, so I got it," you mumbled.
A blatant lie.
Because the truth? The truth was something you and Spencer had agreed to keep between just the two of you. A small, silly little secret.
You had been dating for months now, and this morning, in the rush of getting ready, you had grabbed a random sock from Spencer’s drawer without thinking , before you sat down for breakfast—half-burnt pancakes he had attempted to make, which you had teased him about relentlessly before eating them anyway.
Because, well… he tried. And that was what mattered.
Garcia’s eyes stayed locked onto your sock, her red-framed glasses slipping slightly down her nose as she raised an eyebrow.
"Those letters and numbers are cute to you?" she asked, her tone dripping with suspicion.
"Yes?" You dragged out the word, hoping it sounded somewhat believable.
Then, suddenly—she gasped.
You barely had time to react before she squealed, clapping her hands together like she had just uncovered the biggest scoop of her life.
"I know what this is about!"
Your eyes went wide with panic. "Wait—what?"
"You bought those socks because they reminded you of our very own young Doctor Reid!" She placed a dramatic hand over her heart. "Oh, young love!"
Your stomach flipped.
"Oh, no—no, no, no—"
"You two need to get together!" she cut you off, pointing an accusing finger at you as if you were the one making bad choices and not the person currently clutching a failed cake.
You stared at her, mind scrambling for a response. Denying it would just make her more suspicious. And honestly? The idea of her thinking you just had a hopeless crush on Spencer was a lot safer than the truth—that you were already together.
So, with the best nonchalant face you could muster, you threw your hands up in surrender. "Okay, nope, let’s drop this topic." You forced a laugh, acting like she had totally nailed it.
Garcia squinted at you, clearly not buying how quickly you caved. But before she could pry any further, you seized the opportunity to change the subject.
"So," you said, quickly pointing at the crime scene of a cake, "do you have anything else besides that?"
Garcia let out a huff but allowed you to steer the conversation away. "Do I have anything else? Please." She flipped her hair dramatically. "I have cupcakes, chips, chocolate cookies, vanilla cookies—oh, I even have ice cream! And pizza! And—"
You held up a hand, laughing. "Okay, Penelope, I think we’ll be fine without the cake. That’s way more than enough food."
Before she could reply, the doorbell rang.
Garcia’s eyes lit up. "Our guests have arrived!"
She rushed to the door, and you followed close behind. As she swung it open, two familiar faces greeted you—Derek Morgan and Spencer Reid.
"Hello to my two favorite men!" Garcia beamed, stepping aside to let them in.
"Hey, you two pretty ladies," Derek greeted smoothly, flashing his signature grin.
Garcia wasted no time latching onto his arm. "Come with me," she commanded, already leading him toward the kitchen. "I need your opinion on something, and no, you don’t get to laugh at me."
You watched as she practically dragged him away, no doubt to show off the tragic cake she had created. The moment they disappeared from view, you turned to Spencer, already stepping into his space.
His arms were around you in an instant.
"Hi," he murmured into your hair, his hand gently rubbing your back.
You leaned back slightly to look at him, a small smile on your lips. "Hey. I missed you."
Before he could respond, the sound of Garcia and Derek’s voices echoing from the kitchen reminded you both to be careful. You took a quick step back just in case they suddenly reappeared.
Spencer, however, still looked amused. "You saw me four hours ago," he pointed out.
"Four hours are too long," you countered without hesitation.
Spencer chuckled, shaking his head as his curls bounced slightly with the motion. "I missed you too," he admitted, his voice softer. "Are you coming over tonight?"
The two of you started walking toward the kitchen, keeping your conversation low.
"Are you going to try and make me eat your burnt pancakes again?" you teased, raising an eyebrow.
Spencer scoffed. "I never made you eat them."
"You literally guilt-tripped me into it," you shot back, smirking.
"I offered them. You chose to eat them."
"Because you pouted, Spencer."
Spencer opened his mouth to argue, but the debate was cut short as you both stepped into the kitchen, immediately taking in the sight before you.
Derek stood at the counter, sleeves rolled up, holding a spatula covered in frosting as he attempted—and failedto salvage Garcia’s cake. His expression was one of deep concentration, but the results were… questionable, at best.
"You’re trusting Morgan with your cake?" you asked incredulously, raising an eyebrow at Garcia.
Garcia huffed, arms crossed. "I am running out of options here."
Derek turned, pointing the frosting-covered spatula at you. "I’ll have you know, sweetheart, I am excellent at—"
And that’s when he accidentally knocked over the bowl of frosting, sending a massive glob straight onto the floor.
Derek froze.
Garcia gasped.
You burst out laughing.
"Derek Morgan!" Garcia scolded, staring at the mess in horror.
Derek sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Okay, that might have been my bad."
Spencer leaned toward you, voice barely above a whisper. "I’d like to point out that I never make this much of a mess when I cook."
You bit your lip to keep from laughing again. "That’s because you just burn things before they have a chance to make a mess."
Spencer rolled his eyes but smiled nonetheless.
Spencer, ever the gentleman, grabbed a handful of tissues and crouched down, diligently wiping up the frosting disaster while Garcia stood and dusted off her hands. Derek, still determined to salvage what remained of the cake, muttered to himself as he spread frosting across the lopsided layers.
You stood in the doorway, watching the chaos unfold with an amused smile.
But that smile vanished in an instant.
Garcia froze. Her eyes locked onto something.
“Your sock,” she said, her voice eerily calm.
Your stomach dropped.
She wasn’t looking at your sock this time. No—she was pointing at Spencer, who had just finished tossing the tissue into the trash.
“My sock?” Spencer repeated, confused, as he followed her gaze down to his feet.
The sock in question—the one covered in physics equations—sat comfortably on his left foot.
The exact same design as the one currently hidden beneath your pant leg.
Your breath caught in your throat.
Garcia’s head snapped up, eyes locking onto yours. Her expression changed instantly—realization flooding over her as she noticed the wide, guilty look on your face.
Her lips parted slightly in shock. "Oh my god," she whispered under her breath.
Spencer straightened up, now thoroughly lost. “What? What’s happening?”
Derek, finally sensing that something was going down, stopped his attempt at cake decoration and turned toward Garcia, his hands still coated in frosting. “Uh… what’s going on?”
Garcia ignored him, still staring at you.
“You lied,” she murmured, eyes narrowing.
The room was dead silent.
Derek turned his attention to you, his head tilting slightly. "Sweetheart, what is happening right now?" he asked slowly.
Garcia, on the other hand, was already spiraling. Her hand shot out, finger trembling as she pointed between you and Spencer, her mouth opening and closing like a fish gasping for air.
"They—they—" she sputtered, eyes wide.
Spencer took a cautious step back from her, moving instinctively closer to you as if that would somehow protect him from Garcia’s inevitable explosion. "What is happening?" he muttered under his breath, barely audible.
And then—
"They're wearing matching socks!"
Garcia's yell practically shook the apartment walls, making Spencer physically jump.
"They’re—oh my god—they’re wearing one sock each from the same set! That means—they swapped! That means—"
Her eyes practically bulged out of her head as the realization fully hit her.
"Oh. My. God. You're dating!"
Derek’s gaze snapped downward, confirming what Garcia had just screamed into existence. His eyes flickered from your foot to Spencer’s, then back up at you two.
A slow, knowing smirk spread across his face. "No way," he drawled, shaking his head in disbelief.
Spencer, who had remained mostly silent through this entire catastrophe, finally looked down at his own foot. Then yours. Then back up.
His mouth fell open.
And then it closed.
Then opened again.
Oh no.
He looked horrified.
Which, honestly, wasn’t the best reaction right now.
Panic seized your brain. Without thinking, you blurted out the first thing that came to mind.
"No, we’re not."
The words left your lips so fast it was almost impressive.
Except… yeah. That was the worst attempt at a lie in human history.
Because standing right next to you, Spencer Reid—Dr. Genius IQ Spencer Reid—was standing frozen, mouth still slightly open, his brain seemingly buffering at an alarming rate.
Which, to Garcia and Derek, said more than enough.
Garcia gasped. Derek laughed.
Spencer blinked. "Wait, are we—are we lying? Are we—"
"Yes!" You whisper-hissed. "Lie, Spencer!"
But it was too late.
Derek leaned against the counter, arms crossed, shaking his head with a smug look on his face. "Damn, pretty boy. Never thought I’d see the day."
Garcia, on the other hand, squealed, practically vibrating on the spot. "How long?! How long have you been together?!Who made the first move?! Oh my god, were there love letters? Did he quote Shakespeare?! Tell me everything."
Spencer looked at you, helpless. You looked at him, equally helpless.
The interrogation was relentless. Garcia and Derek took turns, firing off question after question as you and Spencer sat there like two deer caught in headlights.
“How long?”
“Who made the first move?”
“How was your first date?”
Spencer had handled questioning criminals far better than this. But right now he was crumbling under Garcia’s sheer determination.
You were no better. Every time you tried to dodge a question, Garcia found another way to corner you.
And the moment JJ walked in?
Garcia didn’t even greet her. Didn’t even pretend to act normal.
"JJ!" she practically shrieked, making the blonde woman pause mid-step. "Forget hello, forget small talk—did you know these two are dating?!"
JJ blinked, eyes darting between you and Spencer. "What?"
"Matching socks. Lying. Stammering. Busted!" Garcia announced dramatically, pointing at you like she had just solved a murder case.
JJ’s expression shifted immediately into surprise, then amusement. A slow, knowing smirk tugged at her lips. "Oh," she said, crossing her arms. "That makes so much sense."
And it didn’t stop there.
Each time a new member of the team arrived, Garcia immediately hit them with the bombshell, practically vibrating with excitement.
Emily? "Did you know these two have been secretly together?!"
Rossi? "our resident genius has a girlfriend! I repeat—a girlfriend!!"
Hotch? "Hotch! I know you don't like drama but this is important! These two are in love!"
You and Spencer just stood there, completely shocked, as the team celebrated your relationship.

How to Train your Demon

Pairing: trueform! Sukuna x Fem Reader
Summary: Life has all kinds of wins and losses. You don't know which category to put your new demon husband in though.
Tags: MDNI!, red string of fate trope, true form sukuna, librarian reader, soul mates, reincarnation, accidental summoning, love at first sight (buti it's one-sided (until it's not)), Sukuna is demon, but he's v much in love, smut and stuff eventually i guess....
Song inspo: E.V.O.L- MARINA
Part I. II. III. IV. V. VI. VII. VIII. IX. X. XI. XII. XIII. (completed!)

Rule no. 1: Don't show fear
It was a mistake. A comical, nonsensical, monumental mistake, but a mistake nonetheless. You didn’t mean to create a soul tie with a demon . All you did was read a torn up book from the library. Was it an occult book about spiritual practices in the Japanese Heian era? Yes… but it doesn’t warrant an eldritch horror being your life partner.
Actually, according to the demon, you didn’t create the soul tie, he has been waiting for you all his life. Cute, but it didn’t make the situation any better. Damn your natural inclination to catch the old and withered items thrown into the donation boxes of the library you worked at. It just pained your heart to see pages falling out of books, and the ominous leather bound grimoire was no exception.
Restoration was one of your favorite things to do. Knowledge is always worth saving, no matter how old it may be. Books were your life. You found yourself lost in them, enchanted, terrified, taught. You had no genre as your favorite. Everything was welcomed, nothing was off limits. You knew a little bit of every culture, every study, every block buster fantasy. If you could, you’d build a machine that would let you live inside of a book and experience the scene yourself.
Technically you could ask your all powerful demon to do that, but you didn’t want to deal with him right now.
You still weren’t all too sure on how it happened. First you were glueing the pages back to the spine of the book, running your fingers over the deckled edges when you opened a page that was stuck together. You carefully peeled it apart, a task that took ten minutes to do to avoid any additional tears, and opened up to a page that was different from the rest. The words were written in a rush, the strokes of the characters dragging much longer than it should. You only knew a tiny bit of Japanese (but much more of Latin, Russian, Yoruba, and French from having just an abundance of time on your hands), but this time you could make out some of the words.
You muttered the ones you knew for sure, used context clues for the ones that were beyond reading. It didn’t make a lick of sense to you. You closed the book with a clamp so that the glue would set and decided to come back to it tomorrow since it was closing time. There was no rush of wind, flash of lightning, or eerie sounds. Just you and the screech of a thousand cicadas as soon as you stepped outside to walk to your car. A normal Thursday night.
Until it wasn’t.
You shuffled around your house with a new arc from your favorite novelist in one hand, a glass of wine in the other, and the largest frame of glasses known to man perched on your nose. Jazz music quietly spilled out from your hidden speakers, preventing the house from getting a little too quiet as you lived alone with your cat. It was a total boring cliche, you were well aware, but you were happy with your life. You had friends who you trusted, a great relationship with your parents, and just recently got out of a relationship with someone who you didn’t hate, you just grew apart. There was no chaotic, negative energy to feast on in your household and you liked it that way.
You thought you heard your cat clawing on the door when you were snuggled away in your bed. You flipped the covers over and went to let her in to snuggle with you.
“I’m so sorry, Cleo. I thought you were already in here with me,” you said, scooping her up from the floor. The ragdoll cat begrudgingly accepted your kisses of apology. You set her down on the bed, watching her find a good spot to curl up in and smiled. You went to reach for your wine glass you knew that you set on your nightstand, but there was nothing in the glass. You were sure that you didn’t finish it. You paced yourself well enough for it to last until at least chapter five, but there wasn’t a drop of alcohol left.
“The quality of sake has diminished over the years, I see.”
The voice came from all around the room but also deep in your chest. Cleo hissed, making a run for it out of your door, leaving you wildly spinning around for the intruder. You lunged for the heavy duty taser you kept in your nightstand, but when you turned around there was nobody there.
“What is that?”
The bone chilling voice spoke again. Was it one person or many, you couldn’t tell.
“I— I have a weapon!” You tried to steady your voice but it was hopeless. You were terrified. There was nobody there but you could feel a heavy presence in the room.
“You call that a weapon?” The voice laughed. “The only weapon my wife needs is me.”
The statement made you falter. “Wife? Who are you?”
You turned around once again and nearly jumped out of your skin. A man, or a close approximation of one, sat on your bed flicking through your book. It was impossible, but he had twice as many limbs on his top half than he should, and double the amount of eyes. They were bright and red when scanning through your novel. “What language is this?”
“F-french,” you whispered. You were dreaming. You had to be. That was the only way this could be happening. Still, dream or not, you had to protect yourself. You pressed your taser and watched the prongs leap out and touch his bare skin. He looked unbothered, merely looking down at his stomach where the taser landed and moved his arm to reveal a mouth on his abdomen. A tongue flopped out and licked the prongs, dragging it back to the mouth and the taser was slowly dragged out of your hands and into the mouth. You watched in horror as the hard plastic was crushed to pieces in front of your very eyes.
“Useless weapon,” he reiterated, this time looking directly at you. “Don’t insult me again.”
“Pl—please don’t hurt me.” There was nothing left to do but beg. You already punched yourself till blood was drawn. This was not a dream, you were looking at a real, evil monster who didn’t know French and ate high voltage tasers.
He rose from your bed. You crawled away as much as you could until you bumped into a wall and still you wanted to move through it. He stood before you, looking over your trembling frame and called out for you.
“Rise.”
You rose, unsure if you really had a choice in the matter. One of his many hands cupped the side of your face. A clawed thumb brushed away the tear that fell on your cheek.
“Why do you weep?”
“Um… well… I don’t really know who you are,” you said honestly. You were still pinned to the wall, unable to flee and he took up your entire frame of sight. He nodded, removing his hand from your face and raising it in the air. You thought he was going to strike you and you flinched. When you opened your eyes again he was multiple steps away from you, still raising his palm.
“Time has faded your memory of me. You are my wife, and I am your husband. The string of fate proves that we are mates.”
He stated it so matter of factly. You are my wife, and I am your husband. My wife, your husband. Mates. Forget dreaming, you have officially lost your mind.
“I don’t… remember agreeing to that,” you said carefully. The words “husband” and “wife” bounced in your head in a crazy echo. You slumped to the floor, your body suddenly very tired. A laugh bubbled up your throat and escaped your mouth. So much for your boring life.
“Do you not feel the connection? The string is tied from my last finger to yours.” You looked at your hand, not seeing any supposed string and shook your head.
He frowned. “You do not agree to it. It has been decided.” He crouched in front of you, inspecting your face earnestly. One side of his face was strange, not normal skin, instead inhuman, bumpy and shades darker.
“You look the same after all this time,” he murmured. “I will make you remember.”
“Let’s not do that,” you said quickly. “I don’t even know your name and I am not married. I’m a librarian and I have a cat. And I have never, ever met you before.”
“I am known as Sukuna, among other names,” he responded to one of your distresses. “What title is a librarian?”
This time you laughed. An deranged laugh, loud and unbecoming. Sukuna waited as impatiently as he could for you to be finished, but you kept on cackling. Once out of breath, you wiped the tears out of your eyes and leaned against the wall. It finally dawned on you how this happened. The drying grimoire that was locked up in the library was responsible for this strange turn of events.
“It’s not a title, at least, not in the way you’re thinking. It’s my job, one that I love very much. Was I ever a common worker before?”
Sukuna bristled at the thought. Even his tummy mouth frowned. “You were a queen. You wanted nothing because you had everything.”
“Interesting,” you mused. “I’m so not your girl.”
“I’m not interested in little girls.”
“Kudos to you. I think I’m going to sleep now. I’m clearly much more tired than I think I am.”
“We have things to discuss,” Sukuna protested, but you already slipped under the sheets. If I force myself to sleep he will go away, you thought.
Instead you felt the dip of the other side of your bed and flung your eyes open. Sukuna was in bed, with you, staring your down with his four eyes. He was much too close for your liking.
You looked at him wildly. “What are you doing?”
“Resting with you.”
“Get out of my bed!”
“Are you no longer tired?”
“I am tired. Extremely tired, but that doesn’t mean I want you on my bed! Stay on the floor or something!”
Sukuna rolled his eyes at you and turned on his back, his arms crossed in two sets on his chest.
“You were always particular with your sleeping habits. I see that hasn’t changed either.”
“Stop acting like you know me!”
Sukuna got off the bed to sit on the floor like you asked. The only problem is that you could feel his gaze prickling your skin, making it impossible to ignore him. You didn’t feel bad about kicking him out, he certainly didn’t have a pout on his face because of it, but something needed to be done.
“Face the door instead of me,” you mumbled.
His eyes twitched. “Commanding me like footmen,” he grumbled, yet he still turned away. You wondered if his obedience had something to do with the book. Sukuna had the aura of someone who doesn’t listen to anyone, yet he’s been more than understanding with you. Maybe you really were his wife. Maybe you were having a very elaborate and maladaptive daydream. You thought of “maybe’s” until the sun came up, still staring at the back of his pink, spiky hair.
Your alarm chirped for you to get ready for work. You groaned. You didn’t get a second of sleep. You were too afraid of being eaten by the demon you accidentally summoned. You reached out to shut off the ringing clock as quietly as you could, but Sukuna touched it first.
“How strange,” he said, turning the clock around in his hand. He brought it up to his ear, shook his head, tapped the glass. Then he crushed it. It was made of plastic, but the shards bent and broke to the floor left his hand unscratched. You gaped at the mess he made as he let the remains fall to the floor. “It was making a wretched sound.”
“Yeah…” you sighed. “It was pretty noisy.”
You had to find out how to get rid of him. Fast.

Thanks for reading loves!! lemme know what ya think xx

the checklist
summary: beomgyu swore he'd never get into a relationship. it’s cringe, it’s stupid. but when he starts getting nervous and flustered around you, his best friend huening kai creates a checklist to figure out if he’s into you.
genre: fluff
characters: beomgyu x f!reader
words: 5.1k
warnings:
a/n: im glad txt's hvg rest but oh i do miss them <3<33
Beomgyu was baffled. Relationships? Love? Please. He’d never been in one, much less fallen for anyone before. The whole concept of being in love sounded like a scam to him—a nightmare wrapped in pink ribbons. The idea of dating someone was even worse. What, he’s supposed to shower them with constant attention? What is this? A puppy adoption program? A full-time babysitting gig? No, thanks.
Every time his friends gushed about their latest romantic escapades—"Oh, we’re going to this cute little café together!" or "We stayed up all night just talking!"—Beomgyu would roll his eyes so hard it was a miracle they didn’t get stuck in the back of his head. He didn’t get it. Why would anyone willingly sign up for this chaos?
But then, you happened. And suddenly, Beomgyu found himself staring at his reflection, wondering when the hell he became one of those people.
“Kai.” Beomgyu tapped his friend's shoulder insistently, desperate for some sort of wisdom. “Kai!” He repeated, louder this time, when his friend blatantly ignored him.
Kai sighed dramatically, pulling off his headphones with the kind of irritation reserved for someone whose game was going so well. “Beomgyu, I’m literally in the middle of a match. Can this wait?”
“Sure,” Beomgyu replied with an unusually calm nod, flopping onto Kai’s bed and staring at the ceiling like he’d just been hit by an existential crisis.
That’s when Kai froze. Something wasn’t right. Beomgyu wasn’t whining, nagging, or hovering over his screen like a bratty sibling waiting for their turn to play. This was weird. Alarm bells went off in Kai’s head.
“Wait…” Kai spun around, yanking his headphones off completely. “You’re not being annoying? You’re not rushing me? What the hell happened?” He plopped down next to Beomgyu, who looked suspiciously… deflated. “Okay, who hurt you?”
“No one.” Beomgyu sighed dramatically, staring at the ceiling as if it held all the answers. “I was just… thinking.”
Kai raised an eyebrow, already suspicious. “You think?”
Beomgyu rolled his eyes and flicked Kai’s forehead without hesitation. “Occasionally. Yes. Shocking, I know.”
“Sorry, sorry,” Kai said, rubbing his forehead with a smirk. “Continue.”
Beomgyu hesitated, then sat up slightly, his voice quieter now. “It’s just… you see… there’s this girl.”
Kai’s eyes lit up, his tone immediately shifting from curious to obnoxiously teasing. “Ooooh, a girl, huh?”
“Shut up.” Beomgyu groaned, shoving him lightly. “It’s not even like that. I don’t like her like that. Or vice versa. Or—whatever. It’s complicated.” He sighed again, the weight of his confusion palpable.
Kai leaned back, crossing his arms with an amused grin. “You sound real upset for someone who doesn’t care.”
“Can you just listen to me for once? Please!” Beomgyu groaned, throwing his hands up in frustration.
“Okay, fine! I’m sorry!” Kai held his hands up defensively. “I’m listening now. Go ahead, Romeo.”
“Thank you.” Beomgyu sighed, running a hand through his hair. “So… there’s this girl.”
Kai smirked. “Yeah, I got that part.”
Beomgyu shot him a warning glare before continuing. “She’s new at the café. Yeonjun told me to, y’know, mentor her on the drinks. So, I’ve been doing that. It’s been a couple of weeks, and, well… she’s just this normal girl. She’s studying at the same school as us, but I think she’s in a different building.”
Kai tilted his head, squinting. “Right. A totally normal girl who you’ve been thinking about so much, she’s made you think.”
Beomgyu let out a long, exaggerated sigh. “And lately… I don’t know. Yeonjun’s been putting our schedules together, and I… I don’t know how to feel about it. Like, all I know is I like working with her. I enjoy being around her. But I hate what this feeling is doing to me. It’s like—what’s the word—annoying.”
Kai raised an eyebrow, leaning back smugly. “Not gonna lie, Beomgyu, it sounds a lot like you kinda… like her.”
“That’s impossible.” Beomgyu threw his hands up in exasperation. “I don’t like anyone. I don’t want to be in a relationship. You know me! I couldn't care less about dating, romance, or whatever nonsense everyone seems obsessed with.”
——
One Month Ago
“And of course, this is Beomgyu,” Yeonjun said with a teasing smirk as he gestured to the tall, ridiculously attractive guy standing in front of you. “Do not be charmed by his good looks—he’s not interested in anyone. Except himself, of course.”
You blinked, gulping down the sudden lump in your throat. Okay, Yeonjun wasn’t lying—this guy was good-looking. Too good-looking. Like, unfairly good-looking. But "off-limits"? Perfect. You weren’t exactly in the market for romance anyway, not with your recent breakup looming over your head like a bad rom-com cliché.
This job was supposed to be your escape—a way to distract yourself from your ex and maybe stop scraping together couch change for instant ramen. A few shifts, some good times, and some side cash—easy, right? Except now, you were standing face-to-face with someone who looked like he belonged on a billboard instead of behind a café counter.
It would be fine. Totally fine. You weren’t interested in him. And according to Yeonjun, he wasn’t interested in anyone. Which meant you had nothing to worry about. Right?
“Hey!” you said with a small smile, offering it to the brooding guy standing before you. But instead of the moody half-nod you were expecting, he returned your smile—a sweet, disarming one that completely threw you off.
Well. Scratch “emo” off your presumptuous first impressions.
“Y’know,” you said, tilting your head curiously, “you look super familiar. Are you from the university across the street?”
Beomgyu’s eyes widened slightly, caught off guard by your question. He nodded quickly. “Uh, yeah! Have you seen me around?”
“No,” you said, grinning as you delivered the punchline, “but I’ve seen the posters…”
Ah, the posters. A wave of embarrassment immediately washed over Beomgyu. Back in his first year, he’d been strong-armed recruited by the university’s marketing team to pose for promotional posters plastered around campus. At the time, the promise of a couple hundred bucks had been too tempting for a broke freshman to pass up. But now? Those same posters felt like his own personal humiliation tour.
“Oh. Those posters,” he mumbled, cheeks reddening as he scratched the back of his neck. “Right. Darn things…”
You laughed—a sweet, melodic sound that tugged at something unfamiliar in his chest. “It’s okay! They turned out great.”
And just like that, you walked away, following Yeonjun into the staff pantry, completely unaware of the tiny earthquake you’d just triggered in Beomgyu’s world.
He stood frozen in place, replaying the interaction in his head. The way your eyes lit up when you spoke to him, like you’d known each other forever. The way your laugh lingered in his ears, soft and warm. The way your hair bounced as you walked, catching the light in a way that felt almost cinematic.
Beautiful. That was the only word his brain could come up with. You were beautiful—too much for him to process, let alone admit. And it wasn’t just how you looked. It was the ease, the effortless charm you carried, like you’d just walked into his life to flip it upside down.
It hit him like a punch to the gut: if he did have a type, you would be it. Except…
He didn’t have a type. He didn’t want a type. He didn’t want to date anyone. Absolutely not.
So why was his heart doing cartwheels in his chest?
——
Present
“You literally like her,” Huening Kai groaned, rolling his eyes so hard it looked like they might stay that way. “Dude, you’re just in denial at this point.”
“I don’t like her!” Beomgyu shot back, glaring daggers at his best friend, hands clenched, this close to shoving Kai off the bed.
“Okay,” Kai said, raising his hands in mock surrender. “Then let’s do a quick little checklist, shall we?”
Beomgyu narrowed his eyes but said nothing.
“How do you feel when she’s this—” Kai leaned in obnoxiously close, practically nose-to-nose with Beomgyu, “—close to you?”
“Uh…” Beomgyu faltered, his face heating up faster than he could come up with a retort.

“Beom, can you pass me the sugar, please?” you asked, glancing up at him.
Standing almost two heads taller than you, Beomgyu had become your unofficial ladder. Need something on a high shelf? Just call Beomgyu. And honestly? He didn’t seem to mind.
Working with him was surprisingly easy. Too easy, actually. Everyone said earning money was tough, but when Beomgyu was around, the shifts flew by, lighthearted banter here and there, and the occasional spilled drink, it was just like kindergarten.
“Beom?” Beomgyu blinked at the nickname, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips. You’d only started calling him that a few days ago, but hearing it felt… weirdly nice.
“Here,” he said, reaching for the sugar. “Just don’t drop it like last time.”
“Hey!” You protested, pouting. “That’s unfair. If I recall correctly, you made me laugh, and that’s why I dropped it. So technically, it was your fault.”
“Oh, so now being charming and funny is my fault?” Beomgyu quipped, a teasing smirk dancing on his face.
“Yes,” you said with a playful nod. “But also, thank you for taking the blame for me.”
“It’s nothing,” he said, handing the sugar container to you. “It's not like Yeonjun can fire me. He needs me more than he thinks.”
Just as you reached for the sugar, your hand brushed against his. It was brief—barely a second—but it sent a jolt through Beomgyu like he’d grabbed a live wire. His grip faltered, and the container slipped from his hands.
“Beomgyu!” you laughed, not realizing that the simple touch had completely short-circuited him.
He mumbled an apology, crouching to pick up the container, but his mind was still reeling. Why was his heart suddenly pounding? Why couldn’t he stop staring at the way your smile lit up the entire room?
You. Your hands brushing against his. Your laugh ringing in his ears. Your eyes meeting his and holding his gaze just a second longer than necessary.
Perfection.
And he hated it. Absolutely hated it. Because it made him feel things he swore he’d never feel. But no matter how much he tried to ignore it, the truth was painfully obvious.
He was in trouble.

Present
“It feels… funny,” Beomgyu muttered, struggling to find the right word. But even as he said it, he knew "funny" didn’t even come close to describing what you did to him.
“Funny?” Huening Kai snorted with laughter. “That’s the best you can do? Alright, let’s get into the details. Do you ever... get nervous around her?”
“Does the feeling of needing to take a shit every time she’s near me count?” Beomgyu asked, his brain still scrambling for the right words.
Kai slapped his forehead, groaning. “You’re hopeless.”
——
1.5 Weeks Ago
For the past week, Beomgyu had been stuck opening the café. Normally, Yeonjun handled mornings, but some emergency had left Beomgyu in charge. He hated the added responsibility. But if he was being honest—though he’d never admit it—it also gave him an excuse to tweak the schedule so that your shifts overlapped with his. Taehyun would be okay with working late shifts for 2 weeks, right?
This morning, he found himself nervously fidgeting in front of the shiny coffee machine, using its reflection as a makeshift mirror. Was his hair okay? Maybe the little bit of gel he’d added was too much. Should he spritz on more cologne? No, too obvious.
The café was quiet, only a handful of early-morning customers scattered across tables. The clock ticked toward 9 a.m., and Beomgyu felt his heart rate pick up. Any second now.
And then the door chimed.
“Morning, Beomie!” you called cheerfully, your voice like sunshine cutting through the morning haze.
Beomgyu froze, his breath hitching as he turned to see you. You were radiant. Effortlessly glowing, even in your simple two-piece outfit that hugged you just right. Your smile was enough to knock the wind out of him.
“M-Morning!” he stammered, barely able to string two words together.
You cocked your head at him, a giggle escaping your lips. “You alright there?”
Walking over to the counter, you placed your bag down and grabbed the apron you’d left the night before. Without hesitation, you slipped it on and turned toward him, pulling the strings into your hands.
“Can you help me tie this?”
Beomgyu nodded stiffly, stepping closer. His fingers fumbled with the strings, brushing against the soft skin of your lower back. His heart skipped a beat. Why did she have to wear a crop top today? he thought miserably, trying not to combust on the spot. The warmth of your skin sent shivers racing up his spine.
“Thanks!” you chirped, spinning around to face him. But your brows furrowed as you studied him more closely.
“Gosh, Beomie, are you sure you’re okay?” you asked, leaning in and placing your hands gently on his forehead as if checking for a fever.
The sudden closeness made Beomgyu’s brain short-circuit. His knees felt weak, and his entire body betrayed him, a blush creeping up his neck.
“I—uh—I gotta use the washroom,” he blurted, stepping back awkwardly. “Be right back.”
And before you could respond, he was gone, leaving you to shake your head with an amused smile. Meanwhile, in the restroom, Beomgyu leaned against the sink, staring at his reflection.
“What the hell is happening to me?” he whispered to himself, running a hand through his hair. But deep down, he already knew the answer.

Present
“I hate to break it to you,” Huening Kai said, deadpan, “but that literally sounds like you’re in love with her.”
“No! It can’t be that. I’m probably just… sick,” Beomgyu stammered, shaking his head as if that would banish the thought.
Kai raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. “Oh, so you’re only ‘sick’ when she’s around? Sure, Beomgyu. Totally normal. You’re absolutely fine.” He rolled his eyes so hard it was a wonder they didn’t get stuck.
“I shouldn’t have asked you,” Beomgyu muttered. “Should’ve gone to Soobin. He’s less… devilish.”
Kai smirked, leaning back against the wall. “Oh yeah, Soobin. Because he’d totally never make fun of you. Not at all.”
“You’re right. I need to make new friends.” Beomgyu stood up abruptly, pretending to walk away.
Kai grabbed his arm and pulled him back. “Aww, come on! Don’t be like that. I’m serious. I’m here to help. I can do this, I swear.”
“Kai,” Beomgyu groaned, “I think we should just call it a day.”
“No!” Kai exclaimed, holding up a finger like he’d just cracked the Da Vinci Code. “We’re this close. Once you admit whatever it is you’re avoiding, life will be so much easier. Trust me. I can see the future.”
Beomgyu rolled his eyes. “Don’t be an idiot.”
“Okay, okay, fine. Just answer me one last final question.”
“What?”
“Does your heart… race? When you’re with her?”
——
“Choi Yeonjun, you stupid little shit,” Beomgyu muttered under his breath, blowing into his hands to keep warm. Sending him and you to run errands in the middle of winter felt like some kind of cruel prank.
Next to him, you were bundled up in a cozy puffer jacket, scarf, and beanie, your nose red from the cold. Beomgyu had to bite back a grin. You looked like the cutest Pop Mart figurine he’d ever seen.
You pouted, your breath visible in the freezing air. “Why couldn’t Yeonjun be more accurate with the timing? I’m freezing my ass off.”
Beomgyu crossed his arms, scowling. “I’m killing him later.”
You shook your head, a mischievous glint in your eyes. “Or… we could always take revenge.”
Beomgyu’s brows lifted. “Oh, my sweet genius. How?”
You grinned, leaning in conspiratorially. “We can replace all the coffee beans in the grinder with decaf tomorrow morning. Let’s see how Yeonjun functions without caffeine.”
Beomgyu blinked, then burst out laughing. “You’re dangerous. I didn’t realize you were as devious as you are adorable.”
The words slipped out before he could stop them, but you didn’t seem to notice. You just smiled, giggling. “I got it from my mom.”
He laughed along with you, his heart feeling lighter despite the cold.
“Gosh, is it coming yet?” you sighed, your voice trembling. The icy air seemed to suck all the energy from your words.
“Yeonjun said it’ll be here around 3:15,” Beomgyu replied, glancing at his watch. “So… about ten more minutes.”
You groaned, shivering as you wrapped your arms around yourself. “O-okay.”
“Hold on.”
You blinked, watching as Beomgyu walked away without explanation. Confused but not wanting to leave in case the truck arrived, you stayed put, hopping in place to keep warm.
A few minutes later, Beomgyu returned, holding two steaming, foil-wrapped sweet potatoes.
“Here,” he said, handing one to you.
Your face lit up, your smile bright despite the cold. You pressed the warm sweet potato to your face, sighing in relief. “I can’t feel my face.”
Beomgyu chuckled, stepping closer. “Here.” He pressed his own sweet potatoes against your cheeks, squishing them gently. “Better?”
You blinked up at him, your cheeks squished in his hands, making you look even more adorable.
For a brief moment, time seemed to stop. Beomgyu’s heart pounded in his chest as the warmth of your skin and the softness of your smile hit him like a freight train.
Then you reached up, stopping him from pulling his hands away. “Aw, no, come on. Keep them there. I’m freezing.”
Beomgyu’s cheeks burned, and for once, he was grateful for the cold air, it gave him an excuse. But even as he tried to steady his breathing, he could feel it. His heart was racing faster than ever.
——
Present
“I have feelings for her, don’t I?”
Huening popped a chip into his mouth, “I hate to say it but I told you so.”
“Well, what do I do now?”
“You’ve gotta tell her. And after you do, let Soobin know that I’ve officially won the title of Beomgyu’s top best friend this month.”
“And how am I supposed to ask her?”
“Well, just a suggestion, but you could text her?”
“That’s not romantic!” Beomgyu deadpanned.
“Oh, sorry for trying to help. You’re the same guy who once swore he’d never, in a million years, tell a girl she looks pretty because apparently, that’s basically signing up to be chained to a cage like a love-struck animal.”
“That was the old me.”
Huening smirked, popping another chip into his mouth. “Sure, that’s the ‘old you,’ but the new you is in love with her.”
Beomgyu ran a hand through his hair, pacing around the room. “I don’t even know how to start.”
Huening leaned back, watching his best friend spiral. “Well, look at it this way: if you’re already thinking of telling her, you're in the right direction.”
“I want something memorable, you know?” Beomgyu muttered. “Something more… romantic. Something she won’t forget.”
Huening raised an eyebrow. “And you think a dramatic speech in the middle of the cafe is the answer?”
Beomgyu froze. “That... actually might work.”
“Wow, you really are whipped,” Huening said, sarcastically.
“I’m serious! I’ll walk in, tell her how I feel, and let her know how much she means to me. I’m going all in, no holding back,” Beomgyu said, determination lighting up his face.
Huening sighed, shaking his head dramatically. “Alright, but just so you know, you asked me for help. And when she swoons, don’t forget to tell Soobin I won the ‘Best Friend of the Month’ award.”
Beomgyu shot him a deadpan look. “I’ll make it happen. Thanks, Best Friend.”
“Could I get that in writing? You know, so Soobin doesn’t think I’m just making stuff up.”
Beomgyu’s heart pounded in his chest as he thought about it. Texting was out of the question. He’d have to make his feelings known the right way—face-to-face, just like in the movies. He was ready for this.
——
"Okay. You’ve got this, Beomgyu," he muttered to himself, giving himself a thumbs-up. "Just say something smooth... something charming. You’re Beomgyu, the irresistible coffee god. You can do this."
He looked around, making sure no one was watching, then smiled at his reflection in the window.
“Hey, I think you’re really cool, and I like you. Wait—no, that’s too casual. Let me try again.”
He put a hand to his chin dramatically, thinking for a moment.
"How about… ‘I think you're the most beautiful person I’ve ever met and I can’t stop thinking about you.’" He immediately cringed. "Nope, nope. That sounds fucking disgusting."
Just as he was about to try again, a voice from behind him interrupted.
“Dude, just go in,” Yeonjun said, raising an eyebrow as he walked up. He'd been watching from across the street for the past ten minutes, taking in Beomgyu's solo performance with mild amusement (and taking a couple of short videos to fill his stories with).
“Yeonjun! What the hell? You scared me!” Beomgyu jumped, heart leaping into his throat.
“Stop talking to yourself like a loser and just go in already. You’re getting weird looks from the store across us," Yeonjun scoffed. “Also, I’m pretty sure the entire neighborhood has seen your failed rehearsals by now.”
Beomgyu grimaced. “I just don’t want to mess it up, okay? I need to make it perfect.”
Yeonjun rolled his eyes. “You’ve been here for 20 minutes and the only thing you’ve perfected is looking like a robber who's about to rob MY café. Get it together. It’s just a confession. You’re fine, she’s into you. Go!”
Beomgyu shot him a glare. “I’m not a robber, Yeonjun. I’m a man with feelings... and a very fragile ego.”
“Oh, please,” Yeonjun chuckled, pushing him toward the door. “If I had a dollar for every time someone said they were ‘fragile’ before a confession, I could buy this entire block. Just go in there and stop making it a bigger deal than it is.
Beomgyu hesitated for a moment, then turned to face the door of Junnie’s, which was now just a few steps away. He took a deep breath and shot Yeonjun a look that screamed ‘I’m regretting this already.’
“You’re really doing this,” Yeonjun said, an exaggerated smirk on his face. “Alright, Beomie, go make history.”
“Yeah, yeah.” Beomgyu sighed, taking a step toward the door. “I’m going... but if I faint in there, you’re taking the blame.”
With a last nervous glance at Yeonjun, Beomgyu shoved the door open. The bell above it jingled as he walked in, looking like a deer caught in the headlights, and that's when he found you behind the counter, waiting.
“Welcome to Junnie’s! How may I help you—Beomgyu? What are you doing here today?” you laughed, wiping your hands on your apron as you looked up from behind the counter.
Beomgyu leaned against the counter with a grin that could melt the coldest of hearts. “I came here to see you.”
You blinked, trying to process his words. “Me?”
“Yeah, you,” he said, suddenly looking everywhere except at you. His hands were twitching like he was about to do a dance routine.
“Should I be on my break for this?” you asked, genuinely puzzled.
Beomgyu shook his head quickly, as if trying to shake off his nerves. “No, no. It’ll be quick. I think. Probably.”
You chuckled, unable to hide your confusion. “Okay, you’re acting like you’re about to tell me you robbed a bank or something. Is everything alright?”
Beomgyu froze for a second, his eyes wide. “I'm getting rid of this stupid black beanie tomorrow,” he muttered to himself, sighing.
Getting called a robber for the second time today wasn’t exactly on his to-do list.
“Then why are you sweating?” you asked, raising an eyebrow.
“I’m not sweating!” he replied, wiping his hands on his pants—clearly in denial. “Okay, maybe I'm a little nervous.”
“Why are you nervous?” You genuinely didn’t understand, your head tilting to the side in bewilderment. “You’ve literally seen me like... a hundred times.”
“I just—” Beomgyu paused, and the silence between you two felt like forever. “Okay, maybe more than a hundred... but—”
“So, you’ve been nervous about seeing me a hundred times?” you asked, trying to piece it together.
“Definitely not,” Beomgyu said quickly, then muttered, “Well, kind of...”
“Okay, I’m lost,” you said, eyes wide, still trying to figure out why he was so flustered.
Beomgyu nodded, “Well…this is gonna be awkward, and I’m not really sure how to do this or what I’m supposed to say because I don’t want to ruin things between us—but, well, here it is.”
You immediately put your hands up, practically begging for mercy. “Oh, no, please don’t say it. Don’t say you’re not interested in me or anything like that, please.”
Beomgyu froze, looking absolutely panicked. “Huh?”
“Listen,” you said, starting to pace behind the counter like you were preparing for some dramatic monologue. “If you’re going to let me down easy, you don’t have to say anything. I know you’re not really into relationships, and I totally get it, okay? You’re the independent type. I respect that. Honestly, I wasn’t planning on doing anything crazy with my feelings. It’s all good, you don’t have to worry about me.”
Beomgyu’s face went from confused to deeply distressed. His eyes were wide, and his shoulders slumped as if someone had just stolen his favorite hoodie. “Wait, what? No! No, that’s not what I came here to say! I—”
You sighed dramatically, crossing your arms. “I mean, it’s okay. Yeonjun told me you weren’t interested in relationships. And hey, it’s fine. I’ll just stay in my lane and respect that you want to focus on… I don’t know… life, or being a free spirit or whatever. Like, I get it. I’m totally cool.”
Beomgyu blinked, frozen in place for a second, like you’d just dropped a bombshell on him. He quickly stepped forward, eyes wide with determination. “Hold on! That’s not— I’m not saying what you think!”
You narrowed your eyes, trying to suppress a smile. “Really? Because I’m getting the vibe you’re not, you know, in the relationship market. Like, at all.”
He inhaled deeply, as if trying to muster all his courage to say the right thing. “I swear, I came all the way down here to tell you something completely different. Look, if I’m being honest, I… I really like you. Like, really, really like you.”
Your jaw dropped. You were completely taken aback. “You… You like me?” you stammered, suddenly feeling all kinds of flustered.
Beomgyu nodded, looking at you like you were the most beautiful person in the entire world. “Yeah. I do. A lot. Like, so much that it’s kinda scary sometimes, but also really exciting. I’m not great with words and I’ve never been good at this, but… I want to try. I know I said that I’m not interested in relationships but I don’t know…with you it just seems easy. I like you. And I want to figure out whatever this is with you, if you’ll let me.”
There was a moment of silence, your heart racing from the sheer intensity of his words. And then, like a switch flipped, you couldn’t help but laugh, shaking your head in disbelief. “Wow, so all this time I was thinking I had to keep my feelings to myself..”
Beomgyu flushed red, looking both nervous and utterly adorable. “Well…you’re different.”
You leaned across the counter, smiling, as you finally met his eyes. “So, wait… does this mean you’re actually asking me out? Like, for real?”
Beomgyu’s face lit up, nodding expectantly, “ Yes. I want to take you out. If you’ll let me.”
You grinned, your heart doing little flips. “Well, that’s a relief, because you’ve been driving me crazy. And I was starting to think I was gonna have to ask you out first. But of course, I wouldn’t, y’know, the whole off-the-market thing did catch me off guard at first.”
Beomgyu raised an eyebrow, smirking. “Oh? And why’s that?”
“Well, a cute guy like you—who’s charming and funny—charms my ass off and apparently is off the market. Huge bummer, no?” You leaned forward slightly, making your playful tone even more obvious, but a hint of real affection crept through.
Beomgyu chuckled, his smile wide and warm. “Well, you’re in luck, because I’m officially back on the market.”
Your smile widened even more. “Hopefully not for long,” you teased, winking at him. “I’m a go-getter.”
“Oh really?” Beomgyu’s grin was teasing as he leaned just a little bit closer, eyes locked with yours. “Weren’t you the one who just said you’d respect it if I wanted to be independent?”
Your chest tightened, the playful back-and-forth somehow turning into something more serious. “Do you?”
He took another step forward, practically in your personal space now. His voice softened, but the warmth in his eyes was undeniable. “Not if it means I can’t go out with you.”
You felt the space between you both shrink with every second. He was so close now that you could feel the heat radiating off him, his breath just barely brushing your skin. The intensity of the moment wrapped around you both as your eyes flickered between his lips and his eyes, unsure whether it was the right moment to do what he wanted to.
Then, just as Beomgyu’s hand was hovering almost instinctively near your arm, his head slightly tilting to get a better angle, the door to the café swung open with a sharp "ding!" and Yeonjun walked in, looking around casually until his eyes landed on the scene unfolding in front of him.
“Oh no, no, no,” Yeonjun groaned loudly, immediately striding over. “Beomgyu, you’re not even supposed to be here. It’s not your shift. You’re killing the vibe. Like, really killing it.” He grabbed Beomgyu by the shoulder and pulled him away, literally lifting him off the ground as if he were a rag doll. “C’mon, man. Move it. You’re ruining the whole romantic café ambiance with all this sexual tension. Get outta here.”
Beomgyu sputtered, his face going bright red. “I wasn’t— I mean, we were—”
“Yeah, I know exactly what you were doing,” Yeonjun interrupted, giving him a smirk. “And I’m putting an end to it before things get too heated in here. Don’t think I didn’t see those looks. You two are about two seconds away from having an impromptu makeout session right in front of all the customers.” He turned to you with a grin. “No offense, but you’re about to turn this café into something disgusting, and I can’t handle that right now.”
“There’s only one customer!”
“And he has two eyes!”
You tried to hide your grin but failed miserably as you watched Beomgyu attempt to protest while being dragged out. “Fine, fine, I’ll go,” Beomgyu grumbled. “But you’re not getting rid of me for good.” He shot you one last flirty smile before Yeonjun practically shoved him out the door.
You stood there, stunned and flustered, trying to regain your composure as the moment you thought might just happen slipped away. As Beomgyu’s laughter faded down the street, you couldn’t help but feel a flutter in your chest. Yeonjun shot you an apologetic look. “I know, I know, I’m a buzzkill. But don’t worry. Knowing how annoying he is, he’ll probably be back in a couple of minutes.”
You shook your head, grinning despite yourself. “He’s lucky you stopped him, or I’d have kissed him right there.”
Yeonjun’s grin was full of mischief. “Why do you think I stopped the both of you?”

txt reactions when you fall asleep on a couch (_ _ )z

a/n ✧ this is my first try at group reactions and i hope they’re ok. i would love to do more of these with requests of what to do. i would gladly take requests (also thank you for the likes!)
✧ YEONJUN
he’d been showering before he’d join you to watch a movie together but he took longer than you expected.
he found you fast sleep on the couch, pillows propping your head up and a blanket draped over your legs and waist.
ofc this man would find you very adorable, covering his wide smile as he fondly takes a pictures to stop himself from saying how cute you are out loud (he doesn’t want to wake u up.. yet)
he’d leave you to tidy up your bedroom so he could wake you up and take you to bed.
insisting he hold you bridal style back to bed, you held onto him weakly and he brought you to bed safely.
you two got cozy in bed, in each other’s arms, and yeonjun’s smile didn’t fade even after falling into deep sleep.
✩ SOOBIN
soobin promised you that the two of you would head back home before your heels would cause you pain.
the party and you and soobin went to was amazing and lively but at what cost when you could feel the blisters developing on the back of ankle
soobin found himself deep in a conversation with a friend of his and you found a soft couch to land on and take off your heels.
the couch felt like heaven and your feet felt way better that you drifted to sleep on the couch.
soobin ended the conversation, knowing that’s it late and he should get you home and when he finds you on the couch asleep, he doesn’t want to disturb you.
he brings a chair beside you, as you took up all of the small couch, and admired you silently. he’d ease you awake by playing with your hair.
he’d eventually get you fully awake, carry you (along with your heels) to the car, and head home to sleep properly.
✧ BEOMGYU
you and beomgyu travelled to place similar to ikea to browse furniture and also to mess around
you and beomgyu faking a dinner in a simulation kitchen and laughing when he hit his head with a cabinet (you felt bad but couldn’t stop laughing)
it baffles you how fast you got exhausted with him, and it didn’t help when beomgyu invited you to test out some couches
he’d stretch his arms out to you, whining“lay with me”, and you’d roll your eyes and join him.
he made them really comfortable and the third one, beomgyu joked if you both could lay here for a minute or so.
so he did and it didn’t help you at all, your blinks got heavy and you didn’t want to fall asleep in a store but you did
beomgyu could tell you feel asleep when he moved his head and you held him tighter.
he thought you were absolutely adorable, and totally would buy the couch now so he wouldn’t have to move you or disturb your nap.
he said to you he’d love to snuggle at home as he woke you back up.
✩ TAEHYUN
taehyun had an opportunity to take you along with him to a friend meet up dinner.
the place you ate at was really elegant and the food was really delicious.
a bit too delicious that you ate more than you normally would.
food coma hit you as soon as taehyun and his friends excused themselves from the table to go to the bathroom. you were left in the booth alone where you all sat - absolutely full.
you only rested your head down on the seat to rest but you ended up falling asleep.
and it seemed like you were drunk because you were out cold and one of taehyun’s friends asked if he had let you drink.
which he laughed at, and gave you a bit more time to sleep. you can’t sleep there forever and taehyun knew there was a way more comfortable bed waiting for you at home.
taehyun woke you up and adorned a smile, softly speaking to you. “let’s get you home cutie.”
✧ KAI
you and kai had spent a good chunk of the afternoon building a couch you got from ikea
many troubles of finding pieces and having to double check lead to being very tired.
you built it and enjoyed the couch in its glory, sitting and then stretching along the cushions
kai thought drinks would be refreshing after this hard work so he excused himself to go get some from the kitchen.
he spent a bit deciding whether water or lemonade would be more refreshing and ultimately picked water.
he came back and saw that you fell asleep and he found it endearing. he understood and was curious for himself of how comfortable this couch was.
without hesitation, and with the same fatigue, kai joined you on the couch and fell asleep beside you.
opening his eyes later to bring you into his chest so you could snuggle better.

With Strings Attached
Isagi Yoichi x Reader , 2.4k words , genre: smut
You and Isagi have been best friends for years, but your relationship has always been more like a couple's— cuddling, teasing, and sharing intimate moments. One night, while you're both curled up together, the lines between friendship and something more blur, leading to an unexpected twist in your relationship.
Isagi Yoichi didn’t know when his feelings for you shifted, but he knew they were no longer simple.
You were his best friend—his anchor. From the moment you walked into his life, you’d been by his side through every win and loss, every dream and doubt. But somewhere along the way, the lines blurred.
He noticed it in the little things. The way his heartbeat sped up when your fingers brushed against his. The way his mind replayed your laugh like a favorite song. The way he leaned into your hugs, hoping you wouldn’t pull away too soon.
Isagi wasn’t blind to how you two looked to others. He heard the teasing from his teammates, the whispers when you’d show up at his games and run to him first, arms wide open. They’d laugh and call him lucky, and he’d grin, pretending it didn’t get to him. But it did. Not because he minded their jokes—but because he wished he had the courage to admit that maybe they were right.
The cuddling, the hand-holding, the cheek kisses—those weren’t things best friends typically did, were they? But you never seemed to question it, so he didn’t either.
Isagi Yoichi didn’t know how he ended up like this—your back pressed against his chest, his arms wrapped loosely around your waist as the two of you lounged on the couch. You were focused on the movie playing on the screen, while Isagi couldn’t concentrate on anything except how close you were.
Your scent—something soft and familiar—filled his senses, making his thoughts scatter. He tried to calm himself, but his heart was racing. Every small movement you made, every shift of your weight against him, sent a jolt through him.
This was normal, he told himself. Best friends could cuddle like this, right? Except, nothing about this felt normal to him. It felt far too intimate, too perfect.
Then, out of nowhere, you turned.
The sudden movement caught Isagi off guard as you shifted to face him. Your arms slipped around his neck, pulling him into a hug. He froze. Completely. His body stiffened as if his brain had short-circuited.
You didn’t seem to notice. Your head rested against his shoulder, your breath warm against his neck. “This is nice,” you murmured, your voice soft and content.
Isagi felt like he was malfunctioning. His face burned, his hands hovered awkwardly in the air as he debated where to place them. Should he hug you back? Should he say something? His thoughts were spiraling, and he was acutely aware of how close your lips were to his cheek.
“Y-Yeah,” he managed to stutter, his voice embarrassingly shaky. He finally let his hands settle lightly on your back, but his muscles were still tense.
You pulled back slightly, just enough to look up at him, your face mere inches from his. “Are you okay?” you asked, tilting your head in concern.
“Y-Yeah! Totally fine!” he blurted, his blush intensifying. He was lying through his teeth. His heart felt like it was about to explode, and he was certain you could hear it.
You blinked at him, studying his face for a moment, before a small smile tugged at your lips. “You’re blushing, Yoichi.”
“I—I’m not!” he protested, turning his face away, though he knew it was futile.
You chuckled softly, the sound sending butterflies through his chest. “You’re cute when you’re flustered, you know that?”
Isagi thought he might actually die right there on the couch. His heart was pounding so hard he was sure it would give out. You, however, didn’t seem to realize the chaos you were causing inside him.
You leaned back into his chest, settling comfortably in his arms again, as if nothing had happened. Isagi let out a shaky breath, trying to calm himself.
Best friends, he reminded himself. Best friends.
But as he held you, feeling your warmth against him, he couldn’t help but wonder how much longer he could keep pretending that was all you were.
Isagi was absolutely losing it.
You had just turned around, wrapping your arms around his neck in an embrace that felt way too intimate for his already scattered thoughts. As if that wasn’t enough, you pressed yourself closer, resting your head against his chest. That small, innocent gesture sent his heart racing so fast it felt like it might break out of his chest.
And then… it happened.
He felt it—down there, shit he got hard. Heat rushed through his body, and he froze in sheer panic as he realized what was happening. The weight of you in his lap, the warmth of your body pressed so snugly against his—it was too much for him to handle.
Oh shit. This can’t be happening, he thought, his face going scarlet.
His hands hovered awkwardly for a moment before settling stiffly on your back, but that did nothing to help the situation. Every shift you made as you adjusted yourself only heightened his awareness of his… problem.
She’s going to feel it. Oh god, she’s going to feel it, his mind screamed.
You shifted again, completely unaware of the chaos you were causing, and Isagi’s breath hitched. He was as tense as a coiled spring, his entire body screaming at him to do something, anything, to make this less awkward.
“Yoichi?” you asked softly, pulling back slightly to look up at him. Your brows furrowed in concern. “You’re so stiff. Are you okay?”
“I’m fine!” he yelped, a little too loudly, his voice cracking embarrassingly.
You blinked at him, your concern deepening. “You don’t seem fine. Are you sure nothing’s wrong?”
He scrambled for an excuse, his mind racing. “It’s—uh—my leg! Yeah, my leg’s cramping from training earlier. That’s all!”
Your eyes widened, and you immediately tried to pull away. “Oh no! Do you need me to move? Should I get you water or something?”
“No!” he blurted, his hands instinctively tightening on your waist before he quickly loosened them. “I mean—no, it’s fine. Don’t worry about it. Just… stay.”
You tilted your head at him, clearly skeptical, but you eventually nodded and leaned back into him. “Alright… but tell me if it gets worse, okay?”
“Y-Yeah, sure,” he mumbled, his voice barely audible as his face burned.
As you settled against him again, Isagi tried to focus on anything else—the movie, the rain outside, literally anything. But all he could feel was you, pressed so perfectly against him, and the humiliating reminder of his very obvious reaction.
This is a nightmare, he thought, gritting his teeth. She’s definitely going to notice.
And yet, even through his panic, a tiny voice in the back of his mind whispered what he’d been trying to ignore for so long. That this wasn’t just a physical reaction—it was you. It was always you. You were the reason his heart raced, the reason his thoughts spiraled, the reason he wanted so much more than just being your best friend.
But right now? He’d settle for surviving this without you noticing his very inconvenient problem.
Isagi thought he was barely holding it together.
After your hug, you leaned back against him again, your body pressed close, warm, and perfectly relaxed, while he was anything but. His face was still burning, his heart pounding, and his problem wasn’t going away.
Just stay calm, he told himself, trying desperately to focus on the movie playing in front of you. But then, you shifted
It wasn’t intentional—you were just readjusting yourself to get comfortable—but as you did, your hips pressed firmly against his crotch. Specifically, against him.
Isagi froze. Completely. His breath caught in his throat as every nerve in his body went haywire.
Oh god. Oh no. She’s right there. She’s going to notice my fucking boner.
He wanted to move, to say something, to do anything to fix this, but it was impossible. His hands hovered awkwardly in the air for a moment before clenching into fists at his sides. He couldn’t risk touching you and making it worse.
You, blissfully unaware of the chaos you were causing, sighed contentedly and settled deeper into his arms, pressing yourself even closer. Isagi’s jaw tightened, his eyes wide and unfocused as he stared straight ahead at the TV, pretending to care about the movie.
But he didn’t hear a single word of it.
His entire focus was on you and the way your body was perfectly fitted against his, and the very obvious reaction he was failing miserably to suppress. He was sure you could feel it now—there was no way you couldn’t—and the thought made his face burn hotter than ever.
“Yoichi,” you mumbled, your voice soft and casual, “why are you so stiff? Relax a little.”
Relax? Relax? He almost laughed, but it came out as a choked noise instead.
“I’m—uh—just cold!” he lied, his voice embarrassingly shaky. “Yeah, cold. That’s all.”
You tilted your head slightly, looking at him out of the corner of your eye. “Cold? But it’s so warm in here. Are you sure you’re okay?”
“Y-Yeah! Totally fine!” he blurted, his hands gripping the couch cushions to stop them from trembling.
You gave him a small, concerned smile before turning your attention back to the screen. But as you shifted again, pressing even closer to his crotch, Isagi let out a quiet, involuntary groan that he immediately tried to cover up with a cough.
She didn’t hear that. She didn’t notice. She didn’t notice, he chanted desperately in his head, though the heat in his face and the tension in his body were telling a very different story.
This was torture. Absolute torture. And the worst part? He wasn’t sure if he wanted it to stop.
You turned to face him, your eyes locking together in an unspoken moment. Without warning, Isagi couldn’t hold back any longer. He leaned in and kissed you softly, and you kissed him back, the connection feeling electrifying. This was the first time your lips had met, and though you two had shared countless intimate moments as friends, this kiss felt different—more significant, more vulnerable.
Isagi then deepened the kiss, his tongue gently brushing against yours.
It was the first time either of you had crossed that line, and it took you by surprise. For a moment, you hesitated, but then, unable to resist, you kissed him back with equal fervor.
The kiss grew more passionate, the connection between you both intensifying with each movement.
Isagi suddenly grabs your thighs, pulling you closer until you're flush against him. You can feel his obvious arousal pressing against your core through his pants. A soft, needy whimper escapes your lips as you instinctively grind against him, seeking more friction. “I-Isagi..”
You bit your lower lip as you slowly unbuckled Isagi's belt, his eyes locked onto yours with unspoken permission. As his boxers become the only barrier between you and his obvious arousal, you can see the massive bulge straining against the thin fabric.
You hesitantly pull down Isagi's boxers, revealing his throbbing, massive member. You wrap your small hand around it, stroking slowly as he whimpers and bucks his hips. Suddenly, he grabs your wrist, stopping your motion. Fuck... I need to be inside you.
Isagi swiftly lifts you up and pins you beneath him, flipping your skirt up in the process. He hooks his fingers into the waistband of your panties, tugging them aside to expose your glistening folds. Look how fucking wet you are for me already...
His fingers trail up and down your slit, gathering your wetness before circling your clit. You arch your back, desperate for more contact as he teases you. You're so ready for me, aren't you, baby? Look at how you're dripping...
He wraps his fingers around his thick, throbbing length and positions the plump, pinkish head at your slick, trembling opening. He rubs himself against you, teasing your entrance without pushing in, making you whimper and beg. "Please, please, please, yoichi put it in"
Unable to resist your desperate pleas any longer, Isagi surges forward, sinking his hard cock deep into your tight, welcoming heat in one powerful thrust. A low groan tears from his throat at the exquisite sensation of your walls clutching him. “Fuuuck yes, take my cock”
He begins to piston his hips, driving his massive length in and out of your soaked pussy with brutal intensity. Your moans echo through the room as he fucks you relentlessly, the sound of skin slapping against skin filling the air. “Ahhh fuck, you’re so tight.”
He hooks his arms under your thighs and lifts your legs over his shoulders, changing the angle and allowing him to plunge even deeper inside you. He pounds into you mercilessly, hitting spots inside you that make you scream and writhe beneath him. “Yo-ichi feels so good! M’so close ichi” you say.
His breathing grows heavier, his movements becoming slightly more frantic "Fuck, I'm close too... You feel so good, baby." He leans in, pressing gentle kisses along your neck and collarbone, a stark contrast to his rough thrusts "Cum with me, okay?"
He buries his face in your neck, his moans and heavy breaths warming your skin. His thrusts become more erratic, his grip on your waist tightening as he nears the edge. "Fuck, I can't hold back... Come on, baby, squeeze me just like that..."
You let out a breathy cry "Ichi, I'm gonna—" Your body convulses around him, your inner walls clutching desperately at his cock as you climax. The sensation of your orgasm pushes him over the edge "Fuck, baby—"
He throws his head back, his body stiffening as he finds his release, pulsing hot and thick inside you. He stays like that for a moment, their bodies entwined and breathing heavily, before slowly collapsing on top of you, his face buried in your neck. "Damn..."
He lies there for a while, his weight pressing you into the mattress as he tries to catch his breath. Slowly, he lifts his head to look at you, his eyes soft and satisfied. "You okay, baby?" He asks, brushing a strand of hair out of your face gently.
Isagi rolls off of you, pulling you close to his sweat-slicked chest. He chuckles softly, his voice warm and tinged with affection. "I guess that confession was more...physical than I intended. But hey, actions speak louder than words, right?"

❝FIDELITY❞ |part8

MASTERLIST -`✮´- Rafe Cameron x Kook!Reader x JJ Maybank
Summary: Kook!Reader’s world is upended by betrayal, and her only way forward might lie with the most unlikely person—JJ Maybank. But as they build a new life together, old flames and past mistakes refuse to stay buried.
Warnings: slut shaming(?)
previous - next
Could you really call yourself an adult now?
I mean, honestly, is there some magical age that makes you a certified grown-up?
If it’s all about age, then nope—you weren’t an adult. Maybe a “young adult” at best, but even then, the life you were living? Let’s just say it was… a bit different.
When everything started happening so quickly, keeping up felt impossible. And let’s face it, that was normal. If you managed to juggle everything with calm composure, you’d probably qualify as Wonder Woman. Life came with its ups and downs, but throw pregnancy symptoms into the mix, and things got extra tricky.
You liked to share what you wanted with others. Talking about your plans openly was just how you were. It wasn’t about bragging; you just enjoyed sharing your happiness. But every single time—without fail—whatever you talked about? It never happened.
That Venice trip you’d been set on for the summer? Canceled.
The dream university? Rejected. That car you were this close to buying? Nope, didn’t happen.
It was like clockwork. Every time.
And the thing was, you never learned. Not really. You’d repeat the same mistake again and again. Life’s law, right? Someday you’d figure it out… though that day clearly wasn’t anytime soon.
Pregnancy, though, wasn’t exactly something you could go shouting about to everyone. That was off the table. But moving?
If you weren’t pregnant, there’s no way you’d have kept quiet. You’d have made sure the entire island knew. And naturally, that would’ve meant it wouldn’t happen.
This time, though, you zipped it. The only person who knew was JJ—and, well, he didn’t really count. Or, okay, maybe he did. Of course, he was important, but not the kind of person to stand in your way. On the contrary, he had your back. He even offered to help you with the whole moving process.
Things happened so fast, you could hardly believe it.
Your dad came home from his work trip, you visited the mainland, met with a realtor friend of his, checked out potential homes—it was like someone had hit the fast-forward button.
You couldn’t decide on anything. You were even okay with a cute little apartment. The list of occupants was simple: you and your daughter. You didn’t need much more.
Your mom, however, had her opinions. She didn’t want a mansion either, but she was firm about the house having enough rooms. One for you, one for your daughter, and a guest room—because naturally, grandma duties. And a yard, because she wanted to watch her grandchild play outside.
So apartments were out. Houses it was. After seeing what felt like a million empty ones, you were ready to scream.
But finally, you found it. The perfect house. The yard alone sold it. You could already picture the memories you’d make there with your daughter. Maybe a swing or a hammock… some comfy furniture on the porch.
You never imagined you’d get so close to your dream so quickly.
It had the three rooms your mom insisted on, was two stories, and honestly, it was beautiful. You loved it. But the idea of living there alone was terrifying.
Still, the deal was sealed.
It didn’t take long—two weeks, tops. When your mom insisted on hiring an interior designer, you didn’t argue much. Secretly, you liked the idea. And once your belongings were packed, it was all done.
All that was left was you.
There weren’t many people to say goodbye to on the island, which was, honestly, fine. Who were you supposed to bid farewell to? Rafe? His family, who didn’t even know you were pregnant? Your friends, who’d probably broadcast the news to the world? No thanks.
Except for JJ.
You’d have been a total ass not to acknowledge his help. Even if his support wasn’t entirely physical, his presence had been a huge emotional lift.
So saying goodbye wasn’t hard.
Ignoring the support he’d given you would’ve been dumb. When you decided to give him a nice surfboard as a thank-you gift, you didn’t overthink it. You just thought about who JJ was—someone who loved the ocean and surfing. Beyond that? You didn’t know much. So you kept it simple. Spoiler alert: he liked it.
You hesitated, thinking a gift might make things unnecessarily sentimental, but he deserved it. Nobody else in his position would’ve treated you as kindly. Even Kooks barely treated each other well. Expecting a Pogue to go out of their way for you? Yeah, no.
But JJ had.
You weren’t super close, but during one of your conversations, he’d mentioned how much he liked the rare nights when his shift ended early. He worked at a pub. In your head, you’d given him two weeks before he got fired—or kicked out after starting a fight. You were that sure of it.
A week ago, knowing the end of his evening shift, you parked near the pub, sitting on your car hood to wait for him. The plan? Give him the surfboard. Maybe even give him a ride home if he needed one.
Fifteen minutes passed. He hadn’t come out.
You started questioning everything—maybe you’d gotten the wrong day? Or maybe you’d messed up the time?
Waiting around for nothing felt miserable. You should’ve paid better attention when he’d been talking about his schedule.
Not that the gift had been planned or anything. The idea had hit you on a whim. You just wanted to do something before you left. After all, there weren’t many people to say goodbye to. And texting JJ a quick see ya felt way too impersonal.
“What are you doing here?”
You snapped out of your thoughts, your eyes shooting up from your phone. JJ stood a few steps away, mid-turn before he stopped and faced you fully. His eyes scanned the car before landing on you.
Quickly, you shoved your phone into your pocket. “Making sure you didn’t pick another fight.” Sliding off the hood, you smirked.
JJ rolled his eyes, flashing you a sarcastic smile. “Ha-ha. How funny.”
Unlike him, your grin was genuine. Why should he have all the fun pissing people off? It was your turn.
Unlike him, your lips curled into a genuine smile. Was it always going to be him getting under your skin for his own amusement? No, this time, it was your turn.
You heard him say your name, his tone serious. “No, really. What are you doing here?”
Keeping surprises wasn’t exactly your specialty, but you couldn’t resist messing with him a little. After all, this was the first time in days you’d left the house—and only in your baggiest clothes. Might as well enjoy it.
“Just hanging out.”
He frowned, his eyes scanning the area before gesturing around. “Here? Outside the pub?”
The confusion on his face was nearly comical—borderline annoyed, maybe?
You mirrored his glance at the surroundings, raising your eyebrows. It wasn’t much to look at. Just… a place. “What’s wrong with here?”
JJ let out a frustrated sigh, and for a moment, you couldn’t believe you’d actually managed to annoy him. He genuinely looked upset. “Are you serious right now? You—” He stopped himself, clenching his jaw as he stepped closer. Lowering his voice, he added, “You can’t drink. You’re not even supposed to be hanging around.”
So, he thought you’d come here to drink? That’s why he was so worked up?
It was kind of… cute. But poking the bear was way more fun.
You let out a dramatic hum as you crossed your arms. “Not allowed? Says who?” You tried not to laugh at the look he shot you, a mix of exasperation and disbelief, like you’d lost your mind.
“Me. You’re not drinking. Not here, not anywhere. Have you lost it?”
Your lips pulled into a grin, and despite his attempt to scold you, his irritation only made it funnier. Especially since you hadn’t even done what he was accusing you of.
The second JJ caught onto what you were doing, his annoyed expression melted away. As your laughter echoed, he pinched the bridge of his nose, clearly unimpressed. “Yeah, yeah. Hilarious. Now, can you just tell me what you’re actually doing here?”
You clutched your stomach, your laughter dying down into a lingering smile. Sure, he wasn’t amused, but you were, and that’s all that mattered.
“I’ve got something for you.”
JJ’s eyebrows shot up. He straightened, intrigued. “Yeah?”
You stepped away from the car’s front, glancing back to see him still rooted in place. You gave him a quick head nod to follow. With a sigh, he finally moved. “If this is a gun for self-defense, just so you know, I’m not really clear on the rules here,” he joked with a wink.
You snorted, shaking your head. “Please. If I gave you a gun, you’d be arrested in, like, two seconds.”
He laughed, but you could tell he was curious now. Opening the back door, you reached inside. “It’s a thank-you gift. Kind of.”The surprise on his face was priceless. He clearly wasn’t expecting this. Honestly, neither were you until the idea struck.
JJ tilted his head, his expression skeptical. “Thank you? For what? For telling you not to pick fights?”
You rolled your eyes. He couldn’t be serious. “No, JJ. For helping me out.”
He smiled, but it was that classic, goofy grin of his. Any trace of his earlier irritation had completely vanished. He didn’t even glance into the car. “Oh, I get it. Like a ‘without JJ, my life would’ve fallen apart’ kind of thank you? Go on, feed my ego. I live for this.”
For a split second, you considered slamming the door and driving off. Instead, you laughed. Sure, there was some truth to what he said, but no way were you letting him win.
Taking a deep breath, you opened the door wider and stepped back. “Nope. It’s just a small gesture. Don’t read too much into it.”
JJ walked over and held the door open, his eyes going wide when he spotted the surfboard wedged into the backseat. His fingers ran over the smooth edges and the blue-and-white design. “You got this for me?” he asked, his voice softer now as he inspected it.
You couldn’t suppress your grin. “Yeah. I mean, I know it’s kind of random, but I figured you could use your own board for a change. For everything you’ve done—” You hesitated, trying to find the right words. “It meant a lot.”
JJ’s smile was different this time. It wasn’t cocky or teasing. It was genuine. “If I don’t take this, I feel like you’d be really annoying about it,” he muttered, pulling the board from the car.
“Absolutely. You wouldn’t want to hear me talk about how I poured my heart into its design,” you teased.
He froze, eyes narrowing. “Wait—you designed it?”
You smirked, holding his gaze. “No. But it’s nice that you believed it for a second.”
JJ laughed, shaking his head as he leaned the board against the car. For once, he wasn’t mocking or making jokes. Instead, he looked at you with something softer, something you couldn’t quite place. “This is… perfect. You didn’t have to do this.”
“I know. I just wanted to.”
He hesitated, glancing at the board before meeting your eyes again. “I was just trying to help. I didn’t think it was that big of a deal.”
And that was it, wasn’t it? That’s how it felt. Deep down, you’d even envied the way he was with his friends. He didn’t know you. In fact, he hated your group. But if he treated you like this—who knew how he treated his friends?
You weren’t used to people doing things for you without expecting something in return. Sure, you had a hunch JJ liked money. Not just you—everyone on the island knew that. But still, the way he talked to you, made time for you… it mattered. It broke the prejudice you had against him.
It wasn’t anything grand. He didn’t buy you houses or cars. He didn’t shower you with jewelry. But he talked to you like no one else did. He made you feel—like you were someone. Like someone whose decisions shouldn’t be dictated by anyone else’s words.
And that? That was worth more than jewelry. More than anything money could buy. It was something most people—Rafe included—didn’t have.
From the moment he heard, he didn’t tell anyone. What friend would do that? Ruthie? Sophie? Who?
JJ did.
And he wasn’t even your friend.
That’s why it mattered. He was just being himself, and you needed that.
“It felt like that.” JJ was holding the surfboard, his eyes catching yours. A strange silence fell between you. Neither of you had expected such a gesture—not just surfing, but the support he’d given you.
You hadn’t expected his support; that was his gesture to you. And he hadn’t expected a surfboard from you; that was your gesture to him.
JJ lifted the board to examine it, the usual smirk still on his face. He was clearly trying to ease the tension hanging between you. “So, I have my own board now, huh? I don’t have to give this one back, do I? Because when it comes to stuff like that, you’re pretty stubborn.”
“No, it’s yours,” you said, smiling. You were grateful for his teasing—it cut through the awkwardness. You could’ve stayed silent for hours. “But if I catch you getting into another fight, I’ll beat you with that board.”
JJ laughed, shaking his head. His gaze flicked between the board and you. He was ridiculously excited about the surfboard but trying hard not to show it. “Fair deal. But just so we’re clear, every cool move I pull off with this board? I’m crediting you. ‘Thanks to Princess for this wave,’ that kind of thing. You’re my sponsor now.”
You rolled your eyes, but you couldn’t deny his antics made you laugh. He was fun to be around. You were glad the whole “status” nonsense between you two seemed to be fading. It wasn’t just you—he had his own assumptions about you too. But it felt like you’d both moved past that. “Okay. Sponsorship’s over. Go find your wave.”
JJ carefully propped the board against the wall, his expression softening. “Jokes aside, thanks. I mean it. This means a lot. Just don’t tell anyone I said that—gotta protect my image.” He smiled, dimples showing as he ran a hand through his hair.
You smiled back, nodding quickly. “Don’t worry, your secret’s safe.”
As you both grinned, JJ’s eyes flicked from you to the surfboard. Following his gaze, your eyes drifted to his hands, gently tracing the board like it was fragile.
“I’m leaving the island tomorrow.” The words tumbled out, and you saw his hands freeze. His gaze landed on you, but you kept your focus on the board, pretending to admire its design. It really was a beautiful surfboard. “So—I wanted to say thank you.”
His blue eyes pierced through you as if that was even possible. JJ didn’t say anything to make the moment heavier, just nodded. For several seconds, neither of you spoke. Realizing the air had gotten heavier, you shifted your tone to something more casual. “I could drive you home if you want.”
You weren’t the kind of person to offer, but making him carry a surfboard all the way home felt cruel.
JJ opened his mouth to respond, but a car horn blared from down the street. Both of you turned toward the sound. Outside the car, John B and Kiara were leaning against it, with Pope, Cleo, and Sarah visible through the windows. Pope waved at JJ from where he hung halfway out of the window.
When Sarah’s eyes met yours, you instinctively tugged at your shirt. There wasn’t anything visible, but still—you felt uneasy. “Wow,” you said, feigning amusement. “Your entourage is here.”
JJ hesitated, looking momentarily torn. Finally, he sighed, a guilty smile creeping onto his face. His gaze dropped to your hand still fidgeting with your shirt. For a split second, it seemed like he wanted to grab your hand, to stop you.
“Nothing’s showing,” he said, his eyes lingering on your waist. You knew that, but the idea of anyone finding out still terrified you. Especially someone from Rafe’s family. He didn’t want them to know, and neither did you. That’s why you felt the need to be extra cautious around Sarah and Wheezie.
“I know. It’s just—” You stopped, shutting your eyes briefly before opening them again. It was paranoia, but understandable. “Relax. No one knows, I swear.” His hand almost reached out to your arm, but he stopped, remembering his friends were watching from the car.
“Go,” you said, shrugging. You composed yourself. “Looks like you’ve got a ride after all.” You smiled.
JJ paused for a beat, then flashed a crooked smile. He hated the awkwardness lingering between you. “If this board isn’t as good as you said, you’re getting an earful. I’ll call you.” He walked backward, teasing. You couldn’t help but chuckle at his words.
As you walked toward your front door, you noticed his movements slow. He stopped, turned, and looked back at you. It was like he’d remembered something he’d forgotten to do. Placing the surfboard down gently, his eyes briefly darted away from yours.
Then he walked up to you and stopped right in front of you. After a brief, silent pause, you felt his arms wrap around you. Was he… hugging you? Seriously? The gesture caught both of you off guard. You’d never imagined this kind of closeness. But then again, you hadn’t imagined buying him a surfboard either. So, it didn’t feel wrong. If buying him a gift made you feel this close, then it wasn’t strange that he’d feel close enough to hug you.
You returned the gesture, wrapping your arms around him. His grip was firm, and the scent of salt and ocean filled your senses. How did he always smell so much like the sea?
The hug was short, but both of you felt the strangeness of it. Once again—you felt like you’d crossed a line. Broken some unspoken rule.
JJ shrugged as he pulled back. “Yeah, that’s it. See you, uh… whatever.”
You took a deep breath, watching him stand there. You hated goodbyes. You were going to miss this island, and now—
“Yeah… goodbye.” You pushed your hair behind your shoulders, trying to steady your voice. You didn’t understand why you felt like you were losing a friend. Like you were going to… miss him?
Stop. Don’t even think about it.
JJ nodded, picking up the surfboard as he walked toward the car. You watched him for a moment before turning to the front door and stepping into your car. Through the windshield, you caught a glimpse of Kiara muttering something to Sarah. Whatever she was saying, you couldn’t hear.
When JJ got into the car, he paused, lowering his head for a brief moment before looking outside again.
He mouthed something to the group. Not to you, but to the friends in the car. “Just shut up.”
When he gave you a quick nod, you returned it before starting your car. Watching them drive off, you felt a strange mix of relief and melancholy. You’d thanked JJ, and that was all you wanted. It was done.
Except for the quiet ache of losing a friend.
You’d left only a few clothes back at the house on the island. The furniture and everything else stayed in your room. Your parents insisted the room remain untouched—they wanted you to know there was still a home for you there. They even promised not to change a thing.
The first few months were bound to be hard; you knew that. Living alone was going to take some getting used to. But you hoped it’d all be worth it when you finally held your baby.
Now, you were sitting on the couch in your new place, sipping a green smoothie. You’d have given anything for a coffee, but pregnancy meant sacrifices. A little caffeine might not hurt, but you didn’t want to risk it. The smoothie was healthy, though it tasted awful.
It had only been six days since the move. You’d allowed yourself time to explore the area, taking walks around the quiet streets. Your parents had offered to stay with you for a few days, but you politely declined. You wanted to settle in on your own. Leaning on their warmth and presence only to have it ripped away later would have made the loneliness worse. You couldn’t let that happen.
Morning sickness had eased enough for a few walks, so you’d wandered the calm streets near your house. Quiet, orderly, nothing like Outer Banks. You couldn’t help but compare the two. Everything here was different. The people, the lifestyle—it all felt so structured and tame. But a part of you missed the chaos of the island. The freedom. The absurdity of going to the store in a bikini without anyone batting an eye. That tight-knit community where everyone knew each other’s names.
You’d visited the local park a few times. It was rarely crowded, and you hadn’t met anyone yet. By the time you arrived, most of the adults and kids were just beginning to trickle in.
So, here you were: your own place. Did that make you an adult?
How did adults even make friends? Scratch that—how did anyone past a certain age make friends? As a kid, it was easy. Just ask someone to play with you, and that was it. Middle school? Same thing.
But now? You didn’t know a soul here. What were you supposed to do? Walk up to someone and introduce yourself?
Terrifying thought.
Still, maybe worth trying, right?
-
Socializing wasn’t supposed to feel like this.
Your eyes scanned the park’s scenery. The leaves rustled gently in the breeze, and birds chirped in the branches above. A group of kids played in a sandbox, their laughter mingling with the faint sounds of distant traffic.
You clasped your hands over your stomach, exhaling deeply. “Maybe this is good for me,” you thought.
But the whole idea still felt horrifying. Sitting at home would’ve been worse, though. At least you were out, breathing fresh air.
Introducing yourself to someone, though? Out of the question. No anxiety attacks, but your chest tightened just thinking about it. No, you’d just sit and enjoy the park for a bit. That would be enough.
Your gaze dropped to the book in your lap: Healthy Nutrition and Development During Pregnancy. You fiddled with the corner of its cover. Would someone else find this funny? Carrying a guidebook instead of a novel wasn’t something even you would’ve expected a few months ago. But here you were, on the verge of a whole new chapter. Screw what anyone thought—you were preparing for your future.
Suddenly, the bench shifted slightly as someone sat down beside you. The movement snapped you out of your thoughts. You glanced up to find a middle-aged woman with an energetic demeanor. Her dyed-blond hair revealed a hint of gray at the roots, and a steaming coffee cup rested in her hands.
“Ugh, I hope I can finish this before it goes cold,” she muttered to herself before calling out to the playground. “Tati! No running, sweetheart!”
She waved toward the child before turning back to you with a wide smile.
“Lovely day, isn’t it?” she chirped.
You gave her a polite smile, nodding. “It is,” you replied, subtly shifting your book closer to your lap. Her eyes flicked to the book in your hands, narrowing slightly as if trying to make out the title. “Is that a… guidebook?” she finally asked.
You tilted your head slightly. “Yes,” you said simply, hoping that’d be enough to end the conversation.
“A pregnancy guide?” she pressed, her curiosity accompanied by a cheerful smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes. “How sweet! Helping out a sister or expecting a niece?—Oh, where are my manners? I’m Viola.”
Her question caught you off guard. You hesitated briefly before giving your name. “Uh, no. It’s for me,” you said with a small smile.
Her expression shifted instantly. Her eyes widened, her grin turning stiff and awkward. “For you? Oh…”
You nodded, feeling heat creep up your cheeks. She had seemed friendly at first, but the subtle judgment on her face now was impossible to ignore.
“How far along?” she asked, as if the question was perfectly natural.
“Sixteen weeks,” you mumbled, pretending to smooth the book’s pages. The weight of her gaze made your skin crawl.
“Ah, so young,” she murmured, taking a long sip from her coffee. When she lowered the cup, her eyes lingered on you, as though dissecting every detail. “How old are you, if you don’t mind me asking?”
“Twenty,” you replied, keeping your tone neutral but feeling the words land heavier than you intended. You watched her eyebrows knit together as she took a sharp breath.
“Twenty? You look barely old enough to drive!” she exclaimed, clearly not trying to be subtle. Then, almost conspiratorially, “But… you must be married, right?”
Your hands instinctively moved to rest on your stomach, but you hesitated to respond. The silence must have been answer enough because her eyes flicked from your belly back to your face.
“Oh,” she said knowingly, her smile tightening further. “So… is the father still in the picture?”
What was this, an interrogation?
You swallowed the lump forming in your throat. Was it the tone of her voice? Or the audacity of her questions? Whatever it was, it stung. “That’s not something I need to discuss with you,” you said firmly, fighting to keep the frustration out of your voice.
Viola shrugged, but her scrutinizing look didn’t waver. “Fair enough. But raising a baby at your age, and without… well, you know. It’s going to be tough. Don’t you think this was a bit… impulsive?”
Her words hit like a cold wind. You tightened your grip on your stomach and tilted your head slightly. “That’s none of your business,” you said, your voice harder now.
Viola didn’t back down. “Yes, maybe you’re right. But people talk, sweetheart. And usually, they judge the ones they think made the wrong decisions…” She paused, pursing her lips. “Well, they judge.”
That was all you needed to hear. You tucked your book under your arm like you were putting it in a bag, got up, and said, “I think it’s time for me to leave,” your tone colder than even you expected.
Viola raised a hand as if trying to smooth things over. “Oh, I didn’t mean to offend,” she said, but the look in her eyes betrayed the opposite. “I’m just saying this for your own good.”
You could shove your “thoughts” up your ass.
Turning on your heel, you walked toward the park’s exit. The sound of her coffee cup being placed on the bench and her murmuring words echoed behind you. A fresh start sounded nice, you thought. But a new beginning wasn’t a guarantee of escaping old judgments.
There was no way you were going out to socialize again anytime soon. You hated that woman. With every fiber of your being. The way she judged you with that smug little brain of hers—it made your blood boil. You had no memory of how you even made it back home.
You made yourself some hot cocoa, hoping it would calm your nerves. Honestly, lying flat in the grass wouldn’t have been enough to shake off the anger at this point.
Even though you tried to distract yourself—knowing full well that stress wasn’t good for the baby—it wasn’t working. The incident replayed in your mind on a loop. You were certain you’d shiver every time you walked past that park again.
Who did she think she was, anyway? How could someone pass judgment on a stranger like that? The sheer audacity—it was baffling.
The sound of your phone notification pulled you out of your spiraling thoughts. Glancing over, you reached for the phone resting on the couch.
You waited for a reply, but when nothing came, you set the phone down again. At least one of you was having a good day. Even though you felt like you were on the verge of exploding, you took a deep breath, trying to steady yourself.
The sudden ring of your phone startled you. You looked over, eyes narrowing slightly in surprise. JJ Maybank was calling you. Right now.
Pressing the phone to your ear, you grabbed the half-full cocoa mug from the table with your other hand. You weren’t going to drink it anymore. You were too annoyed to even think about washing it, but you figured you could at least move it somewhere out of sight. JJ’s voice came through the speaker, and despite everything, a small smile crept onto your face. For all his antics, he was a decent guy.
Heading toward the kitchen, you heard the cheerfulness in his voice as he began, “Used it this morning.” He was talking about the surfboard, excitement practically dripping from his words.
Frowning slightly, you placed the mug on the counter. This morning? Shouldn’t he have been at work? “This morning? Weren’t you supposed to be at work?”
There was a brief pause before JJ let out a muffled laugh. “Got fired,” he said casually, like it was the most normal thing in the world. Honestly, with him, it kind of was. You couldn’t help but laugh a little.
You weren’t surprised—of course, you weren’t. With the phone still pressed to your ear, you wandered over to the window and glanced outside. “Figured,” you said, your voice laced with playful sarcasm.
JJ didn’t miss a beat, his tone now teasingly accusatory. “Wait a second. Did you bet on me?”
Smiling, you shook your head even though he couldn’t see it, your attention momentarily caught by a cat wandering down the street. JJ cleared his throat, bringing you back. “No, but I wish I had,” you said.
His response came in the form of a dramatic groan. “That’s the meanest thing I’ve heard all week. You’re better than this.”
You turned around and walked toward the kitchen, your tone a little sharper now. “Get used to it.”
JJ responded immediately, his voice carrying a hint of challenge. “Never,” he shot back. Then, after a brief pause, his tone softened, but he added a teasing edge. “Pregnancy hormones have turned you into a completely different person. And it’s only been six days.”
The way he always knew how to push your buttons—and somehow make you smile instead of snap—was maddening. You found yourself tapping the corner of the table with your fingers, a habit you didn’t even notice until it happened. “I take pride in that,” you said, a playful grin tugging at your lips.
JJ came back stronger, more confident this time. “Hey, do you think it’s the hormones, or is it because you haven’t seen my handsome face for six whole days?” There was that familiar cocky tone, but you could tell he was trying to make you laugh. “I’d bet everything it’s because you haven’t seen my handsome face.”
“Even your surfboard?” you teased, your voice lifting just enough to show you were fully invested in the banter now. You moved toward the living room and dropped onto the couch, your gaze briefly flitting to the TV. But your attention was fully locked on JJ.
“Not a chance,” he replied instantly, almost defensive. “The board’s off-limits. Too precious.”
You chuckled, grabbing the nearby blanket and pulling it over your lap. “Then you’ve lost everything except the surfboard,” you said, shaking your head in mock disapproval. JJ’s laugh echoed through the phone, rich and warm, before he quipped, “You’ve been extra rude lately,” his voice carrying a mix of mock hurt and teasing amusement.
You didn’t just roll your eyes—you sank deeper into the couch, grabbing a pillow to prop yourself up. Of course, he’d called just to mess with you. Was he bored? Had he decided you were the best target for entertainment? “I’ve always been like this,” you replied with a shrug he couldn’t see.
“Nope,” JJ shot back instantly, his tone softer but still certain. A brief silence followed, filled only by the sound of your own breathing, before he spoke again. This time, his voice was a little more sincere. “So… how’s it going? Living alone and all?”
You didn’t hate that he asked. Actually, it felt nice to talk to someone. As an adult—or whatever weird in-between phase you were in—socializing wasn’t exactly easy. It hadn’t been easy on the island either, but at least that had been your choice. This wasn’t.
You took a deep breath, realizing the question was harder to answer than you’d expected. “It sucks,” you admitted finally, the honesty not surprising you in the slightest.
“Why?” JJ’s voice was softer now, laced with just enough concern to feel genuine but not suffocating. It was like he always knew how to navigate these moments without overstepping. And honestly, it was strange—good strange.
You tried to sort through the chaos in your head. “I don’t know,” you said with a faint sigh. “I haven’t really connected with anyone. I don’t know anyone here.”
JJ, ever the problem-solver in his own weird way, jumped in with his trademark ease. “Then make friends with the stray cats,” he said, that classic carefree tone of his bringing a smile to your face despite everything.
“I already have you,” you teased back, your voice dripping with sarcasm. “I couldn’t possibly betray you.”
His laugh from the other end of the line was contagious. “Not funny.”
Fidgeting with the edge of the blanket, you hesitated before mumbling, “Are you okay? How are you?” Somehow, over the phone, it felt easier to ask—less intimidating than it would’ve been face-to-face.
“I’m amazing,” JJ said, his voice taking on a flat, almost robotic tone that screamed deflection.
“Your ego is exhausting,” you retorted, matching his sarcasm. Why couldn’t he just answer the question for once? Did everything have to be a game? “Seriously. How are you? After… you know, that day.”
JJ exhaled deeply, and when he finally spoke, his voice was quieter, almost reluctant. “I don’t live with my dad anymore.”
You sat up straighter, grabbing the remote to lower the TV’s volume. “Wait, really?”
“Yeah,” he said simply, like it wasn’t a big deal. “Packed up my stuff and left.”
It wasn’t exactly shocking. In fact, you were relieved he’d done it. Knowing he’d been living with someone who hurt him was unbearable. But still, you couldn’t stop your brow from furrowing. You couldn’t shake the worry. “Are you staying with John B?”
JJ’s silence was unexpected. You listened to the sound of his breathing, the faintest hitch before he finally answered. “Kind of?”
“What does that mean?” Your voice sharpened with concern. Why was he dancing around the answer when he could just tell you?
JJ sighed again, his tone shifting as though he’d stepped further away from the phone. “They don’t know I left yet. And I don’t want to talk about it.”
He hadn’t told his closest friends? Why? They weren’t the type to judge him. You didn’t know them well, but you were sure of that much. It didn’t make sense.
Even as your worry grew, you knew pressing him wasn’t the right move. “So where are you staying?” you asked cautiously.
JJ’s tone hardened. “I said I don’t want to talk about it.” There it was—his three-year-old tantrum mode. Did he really think people didn’t have the right to worry about him? Idiot.
You pinched the bridge of your nose, already feeling your patience wearing thin. “As your friend, I’m allowed to be concerned about your safety, JJ. Just tell me where you’re staying.”
His tone shifted again, this time lighter, more teasing. “Friend, huh? That’s nice. Kook and Pogue forever.”
“Shut it,” you snapped, your irritation clear. All you wanted was to know he was safe. “Just tell me already.”
JJ paused, then let out a soft laugh—the kind you knew was covering up something deeper. Even a toddler could tell. “I stayed with them for a few days. Been figuring it out since.”
You frowned. That wasn’t a solution. “You need to tell them,” you said gently.
He responded with the same stubbornness you’d come to expect, but his tone hinted at a smirk. “This is my problem, princess.” Then, as if to shift the mood, he added, “This is the first time we’ve talked on the phone. Cute, right? Now, tell me about your day.”
Despite the worry gnawing at you, you relaxed just a little. He wouldn’t be joking around like this if things were terrible… right?
You hoped so cause—JJ is your friend.

The Queen of Romantasy and the Race Car Prince - Chapter 16
Pairing: Lando Norris x Elizabeth "Lizzie" Treshton (Original Character)
Summary:
Elizabeth Treshton—bestselling romantasy author, queen of fae heartbreak, and sworn devotee of a carefully structured routine—never expected her service dog to abandon protocol and diagnose a Formula 1 driver with something. But that’s exactly what happens when Mara the wonder-dog ditches Lizzie’s side to aggressively alert to none other than Lando Norris in the middle of a coffee shop.
Warnings and Notes:
Mention of epilepsy and service animals. I don't myself suffer from epilepsy, so I asked my IRL friend, who thankfully was nice enough to let me ask her all the questions I could come up with. The rest I asked Reddit. So everything that's wrong...that's totally my fault and not on purpose. Also Discussion of toxic media/fandom/death threats
Me trying to put all the stuff I wanted in one chapter: exploding head emoji.
If you wonder why there are no cute little pictures in that: If I did that, this would have gotten way too long, it's already 3.5k. (which is also why I didn't add lots of the normal introspective thoughts I usually do lol) You are getting the full on media meltdown in the next chapter.
As always big thanks to @llirawolf , who listens to me ramble

The morning of their Silverstone hard launch, Lando was a bundle of nervous energy.
He was sitting on the edge of the bed, bouncing his knee, hands clasped together as he stared at the floor. Across the room, Lizzie was playing with Mara, completely unbothered.
“I just—” Lando ran a hand through his hair. “Last time I went public with a girlfriend, she got death threats.”
Lizzie turned, raising an unimpressed eyebrow. “Lando. Last time I killed off a fictional character, I got death threats.”
He blinked at her.
She sighed and moved to sit beside him, resting her head on his shoulder. “I know you’re worried. And I get it. But we don’t have to do this if you don’t want to.”
“No, I want to.” His voice was firm, but his fingers fidgeted against his knee. “I just don’t want you to have to deal with all the bullshit.”
Lizzie smiled, reaching down to still his hand with her own. “I have been on the receiving end of unhinged internet people for years. Trust me, I’ll be fine.”
He exhaled, leaning into her warmth. “Yeah?”
“Yeah.” She squeezed his fingers. “Besides, we have Mara. No one can hate me when I have an adorable dog.”
Lando laughed despite himself, finally relaxing. “That’s your master plan? Weaponizing Mara?”
“Absolutely.” Lizzie grinned. “If anyone tries to be mean, I’ll just post a picture of her looking sad. Instant sympathy.”
He shook his head, pressing a kiss to the top of hers. “I love you, you know.”
“I love you too,” Lizzie hummed. “Which is why, I am not even putting a Ferrari Bandana on Mara.”
“Hahaha, you are so funny,” Lando snorted.
“I got a surprise for you,” Lizzie said drily. She gave a soft command, and Mara obediently came over, sitting up proudly.
Lando blinked—and then his mouth actually fell open.
Mara was wearing a bandana that matched his Silverstone helmet design perfectly.
No detail had been missed—the same colors, the same patterns, even the subtle nods to the British flag. It was perfect.
Lizzie bit her lip, barely containing her excitement. "What do you think?"
Lando just stared. Then his gaze flicked from Mara to Lizzie, back to Mara, and finally back to Lizzie again. "Are you—? How—? When did you do this?!"
Lizzie beamed, looking entirely too pleased with herself. "I have my ways."
"You—" He ran a hand through his hair, completely speechless. "Max. It was Max, wasn’t it?"
She grinned wider. "Maybe."
Lando let out a stunned laugh, reaching out to gently adjust the bandana. "This is… sick." He looked up at her, eyes bright. "Like, actually so cool. You did this for me?"
Lizzie rolled her eyes. "Obviously. Thought you’d like a little pre-race good luck charm."
Lando didn’t even hesitate before leaning over and crashing a kiss against her lips, his hand coming up to cradle her jaw. It was warm, soft, and grateful. When he pulled back, his forehead rested against hers, and he was still grinning.
"I love you," he said, voice full of fondness.
Lizzie hummed, her fingers playing with the hem of his hoodie. "I know."
Lando let out a small huff of laughter before dropping another kiss to her nose. "I’m actually obsessed with you."
"And Mara," she teased.
"And Mara." Lando turned to the dog, who was watching them patiently. "You, Miss Mara, are my new favorite teammate. Sorry, Oscar."
Lizzie laughed. "She’s definitely cuter."
Lando took another long look at the bandana, then back at Lizzie, his heart swelling. "You’re the best, you know that?"
Lizzie smirked. "Oh, I absolutely do."
And as Lando sat there, still grinning like an idiot, with Mara happily wagging her tail beside him, he knew this—this little moment, this quiet, perfect start to the day—was something he’d hold onto forever.
“Alright,” Lando said, standing up and tugging her with him. “Let’s go hard launch this thing.”
And just like that, he was back to himself. Confident. Ready.
Lizzie smirked. “Now there’s the Lando Norris I know.”

F1 TV Commentary
Commentator 1: “And here comes Lando Norris, arriving for Qualifying Day at Silverstone—home race, big weekend for him. And—wait a second, who’s that with him?”
Commentator 2: “Yeah, that’s—well, obviously, Lando’s brought a dog… That’s a brown Labrador, very well-behaved, wearing a bandana, might I add.”
Commentator 3: “Is that dog’s bandana matching his racing helmet?! I think it may!”
(There’s a pause as they process what they’re seeing.)
Commentator 1: “Okay, so Lando’s got company. But who—hang on, is that—? I think—could that be—? Oh, wow, I think we’ve just had a hard launch.”
Commentator 2: “I think you’re right! That’s Lando, hand in hand with a very pretty young lady…no word yet of who that may be…”
Commentator 3: “And if the internet and McLaren is to be believed, that would be Elizabeth Treshton with him, New York Times Bestselling author, and that dog is her service dog…Though we have not yet had confirmation of the dogs name…”
Commentator 1: “Either way, this is big—Lando and Elizabeth arriving together, matching outfits, dog in tow, looking very comfortable. This is as official as it gets.”
Commentator 3: “Well, the internet is definitely going to explode over this one. And I have to say, I’m very here for it. Lando Norris, best-selling author girlfriend, adorable Labrador—what’s not to love?”
Commentator 1: “And you just know McLaren social media is absolutely thriving off this right now.”
****
Lizzie had been to big events before—book signings, conventions, industry panels—but nothing quite prepared her for this.
Silverstone was a beast of its own.
The crowd was deafening, a mix of cheers, chants, and the unmistakable hum of engines in the distance. The paddock was alive with cameras, journalists, team members, and fans who barely spared her a glance—until they did.
Because she wasn’t just anyone here.
She was Lando Norris’ girlfriend.
Lizzie adjusted the lanyard around her neck, the VIP pass bouncing against her chest as they walked through the McLaren hospitality area. Her hand was firmly tucked in Lando’s, an unspoken reassurance between them. His grip tightened slightly every time someone called his name, every time cameras flashed.
She wasn’t nervous—okay, maybe a little—but more than anything, she was hyper-aware of everything happening around them. The weight of eyes, the murmurs, the way some people did a double take when they realized who she was.
"Lizzie."
She blinked up at Lando, who was watching her carefully, his usual easy grin softened into something more sincere. "You good?"
"Yeah," she said, then corrected, "Mostly yeah."
His thumb brushed over her knuckles. "You tell me if it gets too much, yeah?"
Lizzie nodded, exhaling slowly. "Yeah."
They moved further in, and before she could fully take in her surroundings, she heard a high-pitched squeal.
"Lizzie!"
She barely had time to react before Lily all but launched at her, hugging her like they were lifelong best friends instead of people who had met once.
"Hi?" Lizzie laughed, hugging her back.
Lily pulled away, still buzzing with excitement. "I still can't believe you're here. And with Lando." She shot him a teasing look. "I mean, we knew, but still. Wild."
Lando groaned. "Why does everyone act like me having a girlfriend is the most shocking thing in the world?"
Oscar, standing next to Lily, smirked. "Because it is."
"Wow. Betrayed by my own teammate."
Lizzie snorted, shaking her head as she adjusted the sleeve of her McLaren jacket. “You’ll survive,” she said amusedly, patting his arm.
Lando looked at Lizzie. “Ready to meet the team?”
Lizzie exhaled, then nodded. “Ready.”
With that, they stepped inside, the sound of the paddock buzzing behind them.
And just like that, Lizzie Treshton was officially part of the F1 world.
***
Lizzie wasn’t quite sure how she’d ended up here.
One moment, she and Lando had been in the McLaren garage, getting her settled in. The next, Lily had grabbed her arm, saying something about "Oh yeah, the WAGs wanna meet you,” and now she was in the pitlane, before the Ferrari Garage, standing in front of Charles Leclerc and Alexandra Saint Mleux.
And trying very hard not to embarrass herself.
Lando stood beside her, one hand casually resting on her waist, the other holding Mara’s leash as she sat at their feet, looking very professional in her bandana.
Charles, ever polite, offered a small smile. “It’s nice to finally meet you.”
Lizzie, who had definitely spent too many hours watching onboard footage of this man’s driving, managed a mostly composed, “Likewise.” Then she cleared her throat and gestured toward Mara, who sat obediently at her side. “Also—thank you. For the bandana. Mara loves it. We just thought she should match Lando for today.”
Charles smiled at her. “Oh you are welcome. It was very amusing when Carlos called me to ask for it. Lando will never hear the end of it.”
Lando just rolled his eyes at that.
Charles, now looking amused, glanced between them. “You’re… surprisingly calm.”
Lizzie raised an eyebrow. “Should I not be?”
Charles chuckled. “Most people are a bit more… excitable when they meet me.”
Lizzie huffed a laugh. “Don’t get me wrong, internally, I’m screaming. But I have a dog to keep calm, and also, I do have some dignity.”
Alexandra snorted. “More than most.”
Lando, grinning, nudged her. “She’s lying. She definitely had a mini meltdown in the car this morning about meeting you.”
Lizzie gasped and smacked his arm. “You absolute traitor.”
Charles laughed. “I appreciate the honesty.”
Before Lizzie could respond, Alexandra grabbed her hands. “Okay, but actually—I need to say this before I combust—I love your books.”
Lizzie blinked. “You—you do?”
“Oh my god, yes.” Alexandra practically bounced on her feet. “Seasons of Fate is one of my favorite series of all time. I’ve read the first three books at least four times each.”
Lizzie stared. “No way.”
“Yes way.” Alexandra grinned. “I am absolutely dying for the last book. When you announced the release date, I screamed.”
Lizzie laughed, a little stunned. “That is… amazing. I had no idea you were a reader.”
“Are you kidding? I pre-ordered An Autumn of Fire and Stone the moment it was available.”
Charles, beside her, shook his head fondly. “She made me go with her to buy a physical copy too.”
Lando snorted. “Yeah, that sounds about right.”
Lizzie beamed. “That’s genuinely so cool.”
Alexandra sighed dramatically. “I can’t believe I get to meet you in real life. This is the best day ever.”
Charles raised an eyebrow. “You literally see world champion drivers every week.”
“Yes, but she writes romantasy.”
Lizzie cackled. “Priorities.”
Alexandra nodded seriously. “Exactly.”
She had been quite proud of mostly holding it together…and not embarrassing herself…
And then Lewis Hamilton came strolling over.
And all sense of composure left her body.
“Oh my god.” The words fell out of her mouth before she could stop them.
Lando, who had been standing beside her, immediately grinned. “Oh, this is gonna be good.”
Lizzie turned, wide-eyed, to look at him. Betrayed. “Why didn’t you warn me?”
“What, that Lewis was gonna be here?” He smirked. “I thought that would be obvious.”
“Lando.”
“Liz.”
But before she could argue further, Lewis spotted them. And then, to make matters worse, he walked straight over.
And smiled at her.
“Lizzie, right?” He extended a hand. “I’ve heard a lot about you.”
Lizzie swore her soul left her body.
Because Lewis Hamilton—the seven-time world champion, the F1 legend, the man whose career she’d followed for years—knew her name.
Knew who she was.
Knew enough about her to have ‘heard things.’
Lizzie, in all her eloquence, blurted out: “I—yes. Me. That’s me.”
Lewis chuckled. Clearly entertained. “Nice to meet you.”
“You too,” she managed, shaking his hand. Then, because her brain was short-circuiting, she added, “Big fan. Like, huge fan. Had a poster of you in my uni dorm.”
Lando immediately started laughing.
Lizzie, horrified, whipped around. “Don’t you dare.”
“Oh, this is amazing,” Lando grinned. “You were so calm meeting Charles, and now you’re—”
“Not a word.”
Lewis, ever the gentleman, just smiled. “That’s really sweet. And hey, I’m honored.”
Lizzie, still recovering from the interaction, forced herself to get it together. “Right. Yes. Anyway. This is Mara.”
At her name, Mara—who had been sitting patiently at her feet—perked up.
Lewis immediately crouched down, beaming. “And who’s this gorgeous girl?”
Mara, as if knowing exactly how famous the man in front of her was, wagged her tail enthusiastically.
“That’s Mara, my service dog,” Lizzie said, finally finding her footing again. “She’s a big fan of Roscoe.”
At that, Lewis lit up. “Oh, we should set up a playdate!”
Lizzie blinked. “Wait, really?”
“Of course.” Lewis nodded. “Roscoe loves meeting new friends. And they’d be adorable together.”
Lizzie, genuinely stunned, turned to Lando. “Did I just get invited to a playdate with Roscoe Hamilton?”
Lando smirked. “I believe you did.”
“Oh my god.” She looked back at Lewis. “Yes. A thousand times yes.”
Before Lizzie could spiral further, Charles, who had been watching this unfold, added:
“If we’re doing a playdate, then Leo should come too.”
Lizzie whipped around to face him. “Wait—really?”
Charles shrugged. “Why not? He loves meeting new dogs.”
Lizzie turned to Lando, shaking him. “Lando. My dog is about to have a playdate with Roscoe Hamilton and Leo Leclerc.”
Lando, grinning, kissed her forehead. “You’re welcome.”
Lewis, amused, looked at Charles. “You ready for this?”
Charles sighed. “Leo is going to be so excited.”
Lizzie, still reeling, grinned. “Mara is going to have the best day of her life.”
And honestly? So was she.
****
Lizzie had so many questions about how her life had led to this exact moment.
Her dog was currently having a dog playdate with Leo and Roscoe behind the McLaren Motorhome.
"Explain to me again how we got here?" Lizzie muttered as she watched Leo immediately claim the room like he owned it, golden tail wagging furiously.
"Just go with it," Lando said, wrapping an arm around her waist. Lizzie sighed. "Right."
Roscoe, ever the gentleman, plodded his way over to Mara, who sat neatly at Lizzie’s feet, ears flicking in uncertainty.
"She’s pretending she’s above this," Lizzie whispered, watching as Mara gave Roscoe a long, assessing stare.
"Mara is above everything," Lando muttered back.
Charles, meanwhile, was grinning as he knelt to ruffle Leo’s ears. "See? This is perfect! Now we can finally see if Mara is truly Ferrari at heart."
Lando groaned. "You have to stop saying things like that. The grid will run with it."
"It is not my fault that your dog has an excellent name," Charles said smugly.
Before Lizzie could protest, Leo—who had decided that he had found a new best friend—threw himself down beside Mara, excitedly yapping.
Mara, after what could only be described as a long, suffering sigh, simply accepted her fate.
Lewis chuckled. "See? It was meant to be."
Lando shook his head, watching as Roscoe settled down on Mara’s other side, effectively trapping her between two dogs, one of which one was a hyperactive dachshund.
"So," Lewis smirked, crossing his arms, "when’s the next playdate?"
Lando groaned, Charles grinned, and Lizzie knew she was never going to live this down.

F1 TV Commentary – Silverstone Grand Prix (Race Day)
Commentator 1: chuckling "Now, here’s something you don’t see every day—Ferrari hospitality is absolutely buzzing, and it’s not just because of their crowd support here at Silverstone!"
Commentator 2: laughing "Oh, absolutely. If we didn’t know better, we’d think Ferrari was hosting a VIP event of its own. I mean, look at that lineup…I think we got partners from drivers from Ferrari, Alpine, Mercedes, Williams and McLaren…—Alexandra Saint Mleu, Kika Gomes, Carmen Montero Mundt, Lily Muni He, Rebecca Donaldons, Lily Zneimer... And there, right in the middle of it all, Elizabeth Treshton."
Commentator 1: "Yes, and that’s particularly interesting because this is Elizabeth’s very first Grand Prix as Lando Norris’ officially confirmed girlfriend. What a way to make a debut in the paddock!"
Commentator 2: grinning "And I have to say, she looks right at home. From what we know, Elizabeth is a lifelong F1 fan, and—controversially—she grew up supporting Ferrari! So, maybe she was always meant to be in their hospitality suite."
Commentator 1: "A childhood Ferrari fan dating McLaren’s golden boy—talk about a plot twist! But speaking of plot twists, Elizabeth’s not just any new WAG. She’s a bestselling fantasy author, her books are international hits, and one of them is about to be made into a movie. That’s a whole different kind of fame to bring into the F1 world!"
Commentator 2: "Absolutely! I mean, we talk about drivers balancing life in the public eye, but Elizabeth is already a major public figure in her own right. She has millions of readers, and from what I’ve seen online, her fans are just as obsessed with Lando as F1 fans are with her. It’s created this crossover event that I don’t think anyone saw coming!"
Commentator 1: laughing "And speaking of things no one saw coming—let’s talk about Mara."
Commentator 2: "Oh, we have to! For those who don’t know, Mara is Lizzie’s service dog, and she is currently stealing the show."
Commentator 1: "Not only is Mara sitting in Ferrari hospitality like she belongs there, but she’s also wearing a bandana that perfectly matches Lando’s special edition Silverstone helmet. Now that is commitment to the aesthetic!"
Commentator 2: laughing "I mean, Elizabeth Treshton is a writer. She clearly loves a well-executed theme. And honestly? Mara looks fantastic. I’m seeing more photos of that dog on social media than some of the drivers!"
Commentator 1: "As she should! I think it’s safe to say that between the Ferrari hospitality takeover, the bestselling author debut, and Mara becoming a fan favorite, Elizabeth Treshton has officially arrived in the F1 paddock."
Commentator 2: "And if Lando puts in a strong performance today? I have a feeling that Ferrari hospitality is going to be just as loud as the McLaren garage!"
***
Lizzie had to admit—she’d been nervous about spending the day in Ferrari hospitality.
Lando had his own obligations, and while Lily and Alexandra had already been so welcoming, she was still the newbie in the world of F1 WAGs.
But, as it turned out, Ferrari hospitality might as well have been a VIP social club for girlfriends and wives, and by midday, Lizzie was right at home.
She was currently sitting on a plush red couch with Kika, Rebecca, and Carmen, Mara curled up at her feet.
“So, first race weekend,” Kika said, giving her an amused look. “Overwhelmed yet?”
“Not as much as I expected to be,” Lizzie admitted, adjusting Mara’s bandana. “Though the garage yesterday was a lot.”
“You’re handling it well,” Carmen said warmly. “Some of us had a learning curve.”
Rebecca nodded in agreement. “Carlos tried explaining tire strategy to me the first weekend I came, and I made him stop after five minutes.”
Kika laughed. “I still don’t get half of it. I just nod and pretend I do.”
“Oh, same,” Lily said. “Oscar started talking about tire degradation once, and I was like, ‘That sounds like a youproblem.’”
Carmen snorted. “That’s the only correct response.”
Lizzie felt herself relax. This was… nice. She had spent so long on the outside of the sport, hearing about it through Lando, seeing snippets online—but this was different.
This was her being part of it.
“Also,” Kika said, giving her a knowing look, “I feel like we’ve been terrible hosts because we haven’t properly talked about the fact that you’re a bestselling author.”
Lizzie winced. “Oh, god.”
“No, no,” Rebecca said, grinning. “We have questions. So many questions.”
“Oh god,” Lizzie repeated.
“First of all,” Kika said, dramatically, “how dare you end An Autumn of Fire and Stone on a cliffhanger like that?”
Carmen, who had apparently also read it, groaned. “Yes! I need answers!”
Lizzie blinked. “Wait—you guys actually read my books?”
“Oh, absolutely,” Rebecca said. “We have a whole Season of Fate group chat.”
Lizzie stared. “I’m sorry—what?”
Carmen pulled out her phone. Showed her.
Sure enough—there was a group chat titled ‘Season of Fate Fangirls’ featuring all the WAGs.
“Oh my god,” Lizzie whispered.
“Lily Z. started it,” Kika said casually. “She’s obsessed.”
Lizzie turned to Carmen. “You guys have a group chat about my books?”
“Oh, yeah,” Carmen said, grinning. “We were losing our minds when you announced Book 4.”
Lizzie covered her face. “I don’t know whether to be honored or terrified.”
Kika laughed. “Both. Definitely both.”
Lizzie, feeling overwhelmed but in the best way, peeked out from behind her hands. “I—okay. I’m processing this.”
Rebecca patted her knee. “Take your time. But also—when are we getting the first movie trailer?”
Lizzie groaned. “You’re as bad as my readers.”
“We are your readers,” Kika pointed out.
Lizzie sighed. “I walked right into that one, didn’t I?”
Carmen smirked. “Yep.”
Lizzie shook her head. But despite the teasing, despite the fact that she was being interrogated about the release date of a movie she legally wasn’t allowed to talk about yet—she felt… good.
Maybe, just maybe, she was exactly where she was supposed to be.
