dick's excuse would always be "sorry, baby bird! but i promised to spar with damian today. ah, but you can watch from the sidelines!" or he would be too busy saving bludhaven to even acknowledge your presence.

second drawing:

you can't deny the bitterness and the clenching of your teeth whenever you stumble upon a room and see your father and your younger brother watching a movie together.

third drawing:

it was your teachers who would be the one having to walk you up the stage whenever you achieved an award. alfred would be too busy sometimes to attend your school ceremonies because he had to assist bruce with missions.

fourth drawing:

it's ironic, really, for a child to prep and plan for their own celebration just to hope that a single member of their family to even walk by the kitchen and join them in on their already lonesome celebration.

too bad everybody only goes to the kitchen when alfred cooks for them. who would want to taste sadness in a sloppily made birthday cake, right? nobody, not even you would have the appetite to eat your cake with the knowledge that it was you who had to put all the effort to bake it because you didn't want alfred to feel obligated to.

fifth drawing:

your family celebrates holidays together as a whole, but you never once attended after that one time where everybody had forgotten to get you a gift for christmas, save for alfred who gave you a bracelet (one that you cherished deeply).

sixth drawing:

the older sibling who he used to threaten with his sword, who he called vile names — a bastard child, he told you one day.

seventh drawing:

you weren't one of his friends, like kon who he would spend weekly video game challenges with; and you probably don't exist as his sibling in his own little world filled with coffee and computers.

eighth drawing:

casual talks are unavoidable, though, when at the dead of the night he would be caught sneaking in to eat some leftovers and you were conveniently awake at the same time as him. he'll recommend you some classic literature he read or 'cafes/restaurants that criminals visit the least' lists, but before it would turn into a full conversation, jason would already be wearing his signature mask again, and with a pat on your head and a "talk to you soon, can't guarantee it'll be tomorrow again though, only here for alfred's meals of course," and he'll be gone. you shouldn't have let your hopes high, you wished you didn't because, duh! he wasn't there to talk to you, specifically. you were just there to bide his time! wiping tears away from your eyes

(Yandere?) Batboys discovering your alternative music taste (metal/goth/emo/etc)

Bruce is utterly alienated and out of his depth. Frankly, he doesn't know much about the scene. It also doesn't appeal to him much, besides the slower, moodier songs. But when it's obvious this is your taste, and it's important to you, he's fully supportive and interested. He'll purchase limited edition vinyl of your favorite albums, and have custom record stands made for you by artisans. If you happen to make music, he'll have a soundproof studio built in the manor. Sometimes, you catch familiar songs playing quietly in the Batcave, without provocation.

Dick wants you to teach him how to scream. Now. After you tell him about your music taste, he listens to your playlists and is quickly converted into a fan. Your favorite songs turn into his gym/training playlist, and he finds his leaps through the Blud are higher during a good breakdown. You two start sharing band tees. Dick would get you matching guitars, so you can practice together. Wearing a guitar pick that fits with another yin-yang style is his favorite accessory, to which you have the other half.

Jason wishes he had known earlier. Do you know how many concerts he's gone to alone, vibing out in the back of the crowd? He knows as many bands and as much alternative music history as you do. He also appreciates the more eccentric aesthetics of the scene with you. He'll put on a face of corspe paint with you any day of the week (the irony of the look isn't lost on him). Your favorite songs are fast and gritty, probably groove or thrash metal. Jason will get you both concert tickets, always front-row or in the pit. If it's the latter, he won't hesitate to knock heads together if they get a little too rowdy with you. Your best kisses also tend to happen while your favorite album is in the background, you will testify.

Tim decides to study it. Gamify it. To some extent, it's like he's studying you, which is his favorite subject, of course. Be prepared to know more than you ever imagined about your favorite artists, their writing processes, etc. Tim would be the one you have the most in depth conversations with sonically, his interpretations completely titillating and elevating the lyrics. But even if you aren't as intellectual as him, sometimes, you manage to surprise him back. He especially loves when you show him songs that strike him so poignantly, that he doesn't know how to quantify them. It encourages him to get out his head a bit more. Later on, he may get a matching tattoo of your favorite lyric, though with a symbolic image rather than explicit writing. For now, he makes playlists for you to listen to new bands he thinks you'd like.

Damian... isn't against it -- first, how could he be against anything you love? Second, he's already made his own foray into darker music... yours is just maybe more hardcore than he's ever cared to go. It just takes more exposure for him to Get It. Soon enough, he's intrigued by the artistic expression of it all. Raised with rigid rules and expectations, he certainly finds the liberation and appeal of music so rebellious and visceral. He enjoys more poetic language juxtaposed by gritty rhythms and mournful tempos. He tells you goth love songs remind him of you. Damian prefers to match silver jewelry or piercings with you, the former tend to have both of your initials engraved in spindly, thin fonts.

A few days back, @igotanidea asked me to describe the bat boys in one word. I got way over my head and ended up writing full on paragraphs on what reminds me the most about them, and what energy I get from the limited knowledge I have of all of them. So I tuned this into a post to fill the emptiness I left this tumblr on and to prepare you for stories to come (yes, Jason x villain!reader is finally coming)

To me, if there’s one word, one thing, that could describe Dick Grayson pretty well, it’s sun. He is like the sun in the sense that he brings life into everything and everyone he touches. He’s a believer in people, in the best we all have in store, and he has a way of making them believe in themselves, in their skills and abilities, making them see the greatness they didn’t notice they owned. He’s a leader, and a great one at that. Although not much of a jokester, he can bring happiness and a smile on people’s faces. He carries a lot on his shoulders, from being the very first Robin to leading the Titans and replacing the Batman, but his heart is too pure and he wants to help people nonetheless, so he keeps taking more responsibilities just so he can assist those he cares for. I’d imagine his love language are acts of service, doing what he can to make his loved one comfortable and happy. In a few words, he’s warmth, silliness, he’s flirting for fun, he IS fun, he’s sugar, spice and everything there is of nice.

If I could describe Jason with one word it would be… caring. Out of all the boys, and out of everything he went through in life, he strikes me as the most protective, the one who will always make sure if you’re alright, if you’re safe, if you’ve been taking your pills or not skipping meals. I know we usually relate him to this aggressive vigilante form, but that’s the Red Hood, not Jason. Jason? Jason is the sweetest, most loving person you’ll find out there. He lost his family and the guy who took him in wasn’t affectionate at all, and he also went through so much. He just wants to protect and feel protected, hence I give him the words care, affection, protection, subtlety. He’s a well stored, well locked, box of surprises, that I’m sure whoever gets to open will feel a love they never had before.

I don't understand as much about Tim as I do his brothers, but from my limited knowledge I think of him as someone who thinks about the details. He’s the guy who, even though you’d never take his aloof mannerisms for that, remembers every small thing you ever told him. Or notices every gentle habit, tick, or whatever it is you have. He’s observant and with that he’ll learn everything there is about you without you needing to tell him a word. He’ll gift you with that thing you spent a millisecond more than usual staring at when you hung out at the mall, or he’ll cook (more like order) that dessert that had you sighting slightly heavier than normal. He is attention, he is detailing, he’s watching the ones you love like the most addicting tv show. He is subtle touches, surprise gifts, random music concerts just because he knows you have that one song hidden on your playlist. He is noticing things not even you, not even your reflection, saw in yourself.

To define Damian in a few words is a bit hard to me, as he’s still young and is still learning about life, developing his own ideals and personality. Hence, having this in mind, to me he is represented best by time. Time to grow, time to heal, time to learn. He is also space. The space he needed to understand his place in the world after leaving the League of Assassins, his mother and grandfather, and joining his dad and his mission for good in Gotham. He’s time and patience to allow all of those things to happen. Not only time for him, but to those he cares for. I feel like he won’t be one to always be on your feet to make sure you’re okay, but that he’ll let you have your time to yourself, rest and put your head into place when you’ve been having stressful days or just don’t feel alright. He’ll only show up after you’ve had your moment, perhaps with food and beverages. He’s quiet kindness, he’s healing, he’s fixing everything even if it takes time. He’s resistance, endurance, fortitude. Overall, he is like a watch, always running, never stopping, but always giving everyone time.

I'm listening to playlists based on my batboys and someone tell me why no Jason playlist includes white girl music, my boy would so have white girl music blasting while he takes people out. also most of the Dicks patrol playlist is the weekend???? Excuse me, he is a man of taste he would have way more than just that, boy is belting bars as he flys and nobody can change my mind. Tim would be dancing to doja cat while he backflips over crooks. Damian listens to Mozart when he thinks people can hear him but when nobody is there he's viben' to the same stuff that Jason listens to cuz he looks up to his big bro after their time in the league (leave me alone to live in my delulu world where Damian and Jason were besties in the league)

okay, first of all this is my first ask!! hello!! and it's about music, so extra bonus points to you!! 🌟

second of all, of course i'm interested in the other batboys! i'm working on their spotify wrappeds right now. for anyone’s who interested, here is my spotify!!

these are what i personally think each of them lean towards music wise based on canon and my own headcanons, please don’t stomp on me if you disagree :-)

Dick listens to clown music i really only found one panel of Dick listening to music and it was mostly Original Pilipino Music and mostly ballads, which i love. it also lends itself to Dick being a fan of indie and soft rock, as well very much being a child of the 90s. The Cure and Billy Joel are artists i see him enjoying. i know a lot of people envision him as a pop fan and i think he specifically listens to early rock-pop music from the 70s; think ABBA, the Carpenters, Donna Summer, artists who would mix well with his affection for balladeers. My self indulgent headcanon is that he's a huge Fleetwood Mac and Mavis Staples fan. i think it's a legal obligation to have an appreciation for grunge to be part of the batfam, but i think he sticks with the basics.

Jason canonically likes Slipknot, Lacuna Coil and Poison Idea (which i forgot to include on his spotify wrapped, oops). however, given his background, his continued interest in being connected to the streets of a large east coast city and the fact that we know he loves good writing, he's definitely a 90s east coast hip-hop guy. i really envision him being a huge Wu-Tang Clan fan (as we should all be) and DMX wrote his theme song Where The Hood At. both the metal/punk and hip-hop genres have heavily political roots and the flaws of political systems are a common theme, which is something he’d appreciate. however, i think Jason's criteria for adding a song to his spotify is if it's good. he's not a snob, he just likes his music to be loud and have good lyricism. he likes to be able to relate to it, whereas Dick would be more about the vibe. i love the idea that he's into Jack Johnson when he wants a softer sound. he also gives me major Artic Monkeys vibes.

Tim canonically likes The Clash, Green Day (i think this is another one they all have in common) and i believe Oasis. so one could comfortably deduce that he's into punk rock, early alternative and brit pop (which makes sense, these all tend to go hand-in-hand). i think he would be fond of alternative and indie, like i think he would dig Steve Lacy and Frank Ocean (he's also a bisexual man in his late teens/early twenties who's heavily online, so i feel like it's also a fairly safe bet that he listens to Frank and probably Tyler too). i think he goes through strong phases of certain artists/genres. i think, like Jason, he likes to be able to relate to his music, but he’s also a bit of a music snob.

Steph's most streamed artist is Mucous Membrane. i get strong punk rock, punk pop vibes from her. she likes anything she can scream along to. My Chemical Romance, Paramore, Avril Lavigne, Pierce The Veil, Hollywood Undead. she definitely had a very strong Panic! At The Disco era. she's got a soft spot for Megadeath too. but i think she’s also more than capable (and willing) to scream along to some bubbly pop music too.

Duke has been seen singing The Man on The Flying Trapeze by Spike Jones. granted, this is a fairly well known song and it had a specific context, but i also kind of love the idea that Duke listens to jazz, like also has a lot of Chet Baker and Billie Holiday saved. that’s his time-to-lock-in music. then i could also see him digging a genre that samples a lot of these artists, like r&b and hip-hop. i see Kendrick Lamar pop up on a lot of Duke playlists and i’m inclined to agree. i’d also add Jay-Z to the mix. a good chunk of his spotify wrapped is stuff he plays to get hyped up, which can vary quite a bit. there’s some Fall Out Boy, Chase Atlantic, Rihanna and some classic rock. i think he also daydreams to Holding Out for A Hero quite a bit as well.

honestly, i feel like Cass pulls the most from everyone else’s playlists. i would say that she’s family spotify stalker, but frankly i feel like she uses youtube music. anyways, her personal tastes would lean more towards the sad girl side; Halsey, Mitski, Phoebe Bridgers, Mazzy Star. maybe Penelope Scott and Grimes - i could see her vibing with the combination of the sad girl feel and a unique sort of sound. thanks to Jason, she also digs System of A Down. for Cass especially music is an emotional outlet, so i think she’d be drawn to more emotional stuff. that said, she’s definitely an ABBA girl.

i see people try to argue that Jason would listen to musicals, but if anyone is the secret theater kid, it’s for sure Damian. he likes the drama and the flair of a megamusical and as such, a couple of songs from The Phantom of The Opera make their way onto his playlist (he secretly relates to certain aspects of the storyline but he won’t say that part out loud). he’s a musician himself so it’s not hard to imagine him enjoying someone as genius as Sondheim, although i imagine he’s very picky about which cast albums/recordings he spins. he listens to a lot of classic music, with a special appreciation for Bach as he’s more or less the violin king. but Beethoven’s got a little more flair. i think he also has a playlist of songs he picked up from his siblings and Superboy

i think they all share an appreciation for Nirvana, The Pixies, The Spice Girls and A Tribe Called Quest.

and i do think The Spice Girls comes strongly from Dick’s influence.

Every batboy (just The Robins in this post) has their own Concerning Old Man.. It's like a theme at this point. Some can be seen as "ships", some are familial, some are just straight up abusers. Sooo buckle up!

Dick has Slade. We all know this. Slade literally abused Dick while he was his apprentice in canon, so.. yeah. They get together in the future in this blog's personal version of DC. I have a whole playlist of songs for them.. they are so unhealthy and codependent and I LOVE IT. I love some good fucked up angsty abuser x victim.

Jason.. he has The Joker. The guy that killed him. I think that they're sort of similar to Dick and Slade, but they never date and Joker doesn't even like Jason. But Jason has this weird love-hate for the guy. He was trapped with him and forced to obey him for two years before he was killed in this blog's personal version of DC. He'd gladly kill The Joker, but the second The Joker decides to give him orders again.. he's probably done for. Anyway I also think Jason sees Slade as a father figure but that's a whole other thing.

Tim has Ra's Al Ghul. Complicated. A lot of nuance but quite fucked up. Really really hard to explain? Especially since none of the people running this blog are like.. Tim superfans like we are with some of the others lmao. But you guys get it.

Damian has Luthor. Honestly hard to explain to anyone that doesn't know the full extent of our DC universe? But it's like a father-son thing. Luthor reminds Damian of his grandfather, that's why he gravitated towards him. Damian probably has a bit of an unhealthy kid crush on the guy too, but never says anything about it. Damian uses the fact that WE and LexCorp are connected as an excuse to see him. (Bruce very openly doesn't like Luthor, but they can't separate the companies completely. So Damian offers to go to meetings in place of his father.)

Anyway yeah!! Hope you liked this little Concerning Older Men post. I love how traumatised the babies are. It's so fun!! Poor them, but.. It's entertaining.

The results are in, and based on the polls I created two 100-song playlists for Tim and Jason.

I doubled up partly because I got two similar asks, but also because I can see them being two sides of the same musical coin.

Batboys with a sister who was cheated on. This is slightly rushed and comes from the confines of my brain, and you can blame my sister's playlist for this. User is between Tim and Damian in age. (~17-18 years old)

T.W: Mentions of cheating, Jason being Jason, Damian being a sweet child, brief mentions of violence (not abuse), swearing.

Dick is instantly by your side when you come home from your "date". He notices your red eyes, which you thought you had managed to hide, and envelopes you in a hug. Jason walks in sees this, and is instantly in protective mode. He walks over, placing a grounding hand on your shoulder as he asks what's wrong. He already knows it was your douche of a boyfriend, but he wants to hear it from you. Once it's confirmed it was your now ex who cheated on you, Jason and Dick are instantly on the way to ruin his day, and possibly his life for hurting their baby sister. Tim has already gotten him fired, has updated all his social media with proof of his cheating, and updated his status to "A cheating bastard". He's also drained any semblance of money from his bank account. Tim and Jason are ultimately the ones who are let out because they are the most comfortable with burying a body. (Which Alfred doesn't let happen) Dick and Damian are left home to comfort you. Dick has you wrapped in a warm blanket, and Damian is resting against you, which is an extremely rare sign of affection from him. You end up watching your favorite TV show or movie until you end up falling asleep. Dick carries you to your bedroom while Damian stays with you, muttering curses in Arabic under his breath at the man you had trusted so closely. As Dick leaves you in your room, Damian refuses to leave your side, not wanting you to feel abandoned by your family after you had already been betrayed by the ass of an ex.

The next day you completely forget about him as Bruce takes you out for a day to yourself after hearing about the situation. Needless to say, you never heard from or saw your ex ever again.

(Sorry it was rushed, it's different than I had in my head. Let me know if you want me to go down the original route I had in mind)

So I bet Dick has like this pop playlist that's super light hearted and fun to listen the total opposite of the others. Im pretty sure he'd use some nice quote or word for the playlist like "You'll never know if you never try" or something like that. (Jason will probably say 'cringeeee' to it tho)

Jason Todd

You better prepare for the most depressing, angry playlist of all time. Like this man will have any rock, electric pop and punk or rap song he can find. (I can see him actually putting the music super loud just to piss off Bruce, but then later put it more quiet because of Alfred). I see him naming his playlist: f@ck the world. Or something like it.

Tim Drake

This sleepyhead will have the most depressing music ever. I know I said it with Jason, but Jesus Christ. This is a whole nother level. And I see him also putting a few fun and energetic songs in so he can keep working on his work and doesn't actually fall asleep. I see him putting the name "Work playlist." As name.

Damian Wayne

Oh dear. Classical music. Very much. Just like Alfred. It makes him calm and feel at peace. I see him actually when no ones around tapping his foot along the rhythm of the music but if someone catches him of course he'll deny it!

His name of playlist would just be boring and straightforward "Classical music" or if anyone uses his playlist "My music taste is better then yours"

I think this is the 15th World Goth Day, having begun in 2009 when BBC Radio six chose to play different genres a day for one week. May 22nd just so happened to be goth. The few goths that picked up on it, including DJ Martin OldGoth and DJ Cruel Britannia (Now Batboy Slim) called in requests to other radio stations in an attempt to make it a bigger thing. By the next year, World Goth Day was as its name implies a global institution with events happening all over the world. I for one released a special playlist each year on a podcast. Some bands recorded a special song or released a remix for the occasions. As the celebrations grew year after year, mainstream news outlets like The Huffington Post covered the annual occasion with lists of gothic bands (hit and miss, though interesting from someone not in the scene).
