This is Jazzdragon 19, one of the largest and most complex in the series. I made this in 2011.

A DA friend sent me a video of a musician playing a contrabass flute - these instruments are amazing, and the player must have had the lungs of a dragon in order to move air through the thing. It was huge! Taller than she was! I wanted to take that up a notch with the Jazzdragon, and make playing the flute a whole-body exercise. So Jazz 19 is playing the sub-sub-contrabass flute with his toes.

The dragon was done in two layers - the main body and that large wing on the left side of the picture. He's colored with Prismacolor pencils and gold paint pen.

Behind the dragon is copper-colored repousse metal tooled with... Bach, I think. I can't remember what I referenced for the musical notation. The dark round things are acrylic "dragon tears" I nabbed from a convention, and the green/brown discs are dyed shell. The deep background is a mix of acrylic, ink, and glitter with tiny rhinestones attached.

Anyone else get the insatiable urge to play a new instrument?

Anyways, I would really, really love to find an alto flute. They're so beautiful and very much underrated. I had the opportunity to play with one in high school and haven't thought about it much since then, but damn. I would absolutely love to have one of my own someday.

And in not taking the idea off the table either, I recently discovered that dreams can, in fact, come true sometimes when I bought my bari sax for a ridiculously small price.

the instruments i think they would play (under the cut)

jane doe: she would play string bass. why? ‘cause i believe people outside of band, if you asked them about band usually wouldn’t think about the string bass and she was the forgotten member of the choir and joined late. (and also, electric bass is usually forgotten about so there’s also that.)

ricky potts: he would play trombone. why? ‘cause he just seems like a person who would enjoy gliss (glissando) and i don’t really have much of a reason for this one he just seems like a trombone player.

noel gruber: he would play saxophone, alto saxophone to be specific. why? ‘cause saxophone was popular in post war france.

ocean o’connell rosenburg: she would play the flute. why? ‘cause flute is an instrument played by more girls than boys, (google says 57.04% of flutists are female,) and also in my head flute and good grades are associated together and i don’t have a reason why, so yeah.

mischa bachinski: he would play trumpet. why? i honestly don’t have a reason for this expect for he gives off trumpet player vibes.

constance blackwood: she would play the clarinet. why? ‘cause clarinet is most similar to recorder and her recorder solo in sugar cloud.

I do. I name my clarinet. My first one was named after my favorite kotlc characters. Its name was Bangs Boy Hunkyhair Supreme (iykyk) my current clarinet is named Walker Apollo. Walker after Walker scobell as requested by my bestie, and Apollo after the god of music.

I just, wanted to share a piece of me that has been around since I was 5. Uh, by that I mean playing piano xD. But this song is just so pretty and uh got excited now that I’m closer to having it down! It’s still choppy and not quite up to speed, mistakes here and there still >.> but overall, significant progress -- ALSO THE PIANO IS INSANELY OUT OF TUNE becuase it's been 3 years since tuning it :') so sorry it's so out of tune
