My love for Good Omens, especially the soundtrack, led me to doing this tonight. Sorry for any audio quality...I recorded it straight from my ipad!

Anyone else get the insatiable urge to play a new instrument?
Anyways, I would really, really love to find an alto flute. They're so beautiful and very much underrated. I had the opportunity to play with one in high school and haven't thought about it much since then, but damn. I would absolutely love to have one of my own someday.
And in not taking the idea off the table either, I recently discovered that dreams can, in fact, come true sometimes when I bought my bari sax for a ridiculously small price.

Do you have a favorite instrument to play and/or listen to?
I do! I've played a lot of instruments, actually! I've been playing the flute since the fifth grade goodness, that's been nearly 20 years 😳 and the piano a few years longer than that. I love playing the flute in bands/community concerts or at church, but piano is something I do to relax, not perform (definitely haven't practiced it as much!) I also took some methods courses in college and got to play a few other woodwind and percussion instruments there. As a whole, my favorites to play are flute (and its related instruments), piano and alto sax (when I can get my hands on one), and my favorite to listen to is generally piano, although any instruments in a woodwind quartet have great solo/ensemble music as well!
And even though it's not technically an instrument, I really love singing, too!

Consortium and Commissions, Oh My!
On the heels of finishing up two pieces for concert band, I have received funding from a consortium of five excellent tubists to write a piece for unaccompanied tuba. It will be based on the mystical, sometimes elusive fragments of the Greek philosopher Heraclitus. I also just received a commission from the University of Texas at Tyler for a trumpet and piano piece, with the possibility of a…

Hello friends!
Just thought I’d share another score with y’all. This time, it’s a revision of a piece I wrote back in 2021 (I believe, haha)
Here is “Adonai Ro’i” for Alto Flute, SATB Choir, and Harp.

I’m doing a transcription of the whole OST for two flutes and alto flute (mostly - not all the sound effects, but some) and Another Medium was so fun yet so difficult for only three voices.
I totally agree it slaps though, that and Waterfall are some of the best ambient music in any game I’ve played by a country mile.
this is your scheduled remoinder that undertale OST "another medium" fucks so unbelievably hard. ok gn

"Birds" Flute Trio by Herman Beeftink, performed by Rama Kumaran
I've played flute/piccolo for almost a decade now, and there are certain pieces that just stick with you when you hear them. Beeftink has several of these excellent pieces to his name, but one of the first ones I encountered was his Birds trio. It does an excellent job at evoking the sound and feel of birds in flight, and is incredibly fun to play besides. I've never had the chance to perform it before, but I've worked on it several times over the years and would love to present it to an audience one day.
"Birds" is around 11:30 minutes long, and consists of three separate movements.

Apologies this one is coming late, this piece turned out much longer than I originally planned it to. It could have been just the first phrase, but I actually wrote the second theme first and wanted the the piece to have both, which then necessitated the third phrase so that the piece was balanced.
Generally, this is a study in repitition. As a lullaby-inspired piece, structure and predictability are important. However, I wanted to find ways to avoid the repititions ever getting stale. I found keeping one of melody/harmony the same while changing the other worked well, as well as adding varying ornamention over a fundamentally simple melody.
As always, these pieces are welcome for anyone and everyone to play! All I ask is that you share it with me, because I'd love to hear it done by live players!

Richard Burdick's Fourtitude Four for Four For #Flute, #altoflute, #oboe & #BassClarinet Movement TWO
This, the second movement of this work is a "bittersweet" sort of work, that features the oboe. It has many similar but mostly subtally all different phrases that go from soft to loud. Soft to loud like a saw-tooth shape.

rtc au but instead of them being in the choir they’re band kids.
the instruments i think they would play (under the cut)
jane doe: she would play string bass. why? ‘cause i believe people outside of band, if you asked them about band usually wouldn’t think about the string bass and she was the forgotten member of the choir and joined late. (and also, electric bass is usually forgotten about so there’s also that.)
ricky potts: he would play trombone. why? ‘cause he just seems like a person who would enjoy gliss (glissando) and i don’t really have much of a reason for this one he just seems like a trombone player.
noel gruber: he would play saxophone, alto saxophone to be specific. why? ‘cause saxophone was popular in post war france.
ocean o’connell rosenburg: she would play the flute. why? ‘cause flute is an instrument played by more girls than boys, (google says 57.04% of flutists are female,) and also in my head flute and good grades are associated together and i don’t have a reason why, so yeah.
mischa bachinski: he would play trumpet. why? i honestly don’t have a reason for this expect for he gives off trumpet player vibes.
constance blackwood: she would play the clarinet. why? ‘cause clarinet is most similar to recorder and her recorder solo in sugar cloud.
-a band kid
