This is Jazzdragon 19, one of the largest and most complex in the series. I made this in 2011.

A DA friend sent me a video of a musician playing a contrabass flute - these instruments are amazing, and the player must have had the lungs of a dragon in order to move air through the thing. It was huge! Taller than she was! I wanted to take that up a notch with the Jazzdragon, and make playing the flute a whole-body exercise. So Jazz 19 is playing the sub-sub-contrabass flute with his toes.

The dragon was done in two layers - the main body and that large wing on the left side of the picture. He's colored with Prismacolor pencils and gold paint pen.

Behind the dragon is copper-colored repousse metal tooled with... Bach, I think. I can't remember what I referenced for the musical notation. The dark round things are acrylic "dragon tears" I nabbed from a convention, and the green/brown discs are dyed shell. The deep background is a mix of acrylic, ink, and glitter with tiny rhinestones attached.

This is Jazzdragon 20, the last one I have made so far. I made it in 2015 (yikes! Time to plan some more!). This one I managed to finish in time for Cinco de Mayo that year, and realizing that I would have it finished in that time frame informed my color and design choices. So he's bold red, gold, and green with Mayan design elements. (Yes, I realize that I should have been using Aztec design elements if I'd wanted to use historically accurate visual elements. I liked what I had in my Codex Borgia and decided to go with Mayan motifs anyway.)

For the dragon, I used Prismacolor pencils over an ink drawing. The rattle heads of the maracas are jasper. The Mayan letterforms are tooled into repousse metal, then painted with an acrylic/soap mixture (this lets the color stick to the metal; it's then spray-sealed). There are lapis lazuli beads, acrylic tiles (the small squares), acrylic bubbles, and various fancy stickers (musical notation and other small decorations). The whole mess is mounted on a poured acrylic + glitter background.

I don't like giving spoilers if a piece of media is good so... last warning:

I was worried that they'd make Mizu a woman in the typical way, even when disguised as a man. Suddenly she becomes the "girl with the ponytail and glasses" who is actually stunningly beautiful when not in her protective disguise...yellow glasses included, because yellow and blue make green, and green eyes *were* a more common color within east Asian communities.

I like that detail. I love that she is drawn as a handsome woman. Which makes sense given her upbringing and training. Not pretty ~*because of her blue eyes*~. This is what I meant by the fetish thing. That bothered me so much for Memoirs of Geisha... It smacks of this thing certain men do when they gaze upon what they perceive as mixed-raced women. A disgusting eye that perceives any presumed "whiteness" as what makes a person of color beautiful. It's gross and having seen that two mixed-race Asian women had a hand in writing/producing this, I get why that aspect was treated well this time. The romantic in me also loved the nibbles of tension between Mizu and Taigen, and Mizu and Akemi, and even Akemi and Taigen... Just. The relationships are so well-done. Ringo is a gem of a person, and honestly the bravest and most decent character in the show. Episode 5, remains the high-point. That Bunraku (Japanse puppet theatre) framing for the flashback and that crushing climax.

My heart broke for the death of Mizu's heart and most of her humanity. I felt the air sort of let off slowly in that last ep instead of the blast of relief I expected, but I'm here for Mizu killing those white men. The fight choreography was exquisitely planned and filmed. Live action could learn something from the framing of certain moves in this, but there were a few moments when injuries definitely should have affected more than they did...Though, that is also a trope of the genre. I'm just totally gripped by these characters and will be here for season two. If we get one.

PLEASE WATCH IT so we get those four seasons!

I'm sure with just a bit of mana and rainbow linen, she can make her skirts reflect the magic she's harnessing. Maybe some gold ore for the beads?? ...hehe I love this game

Anyways her default is purple!! I really gotta type up the rest of my lore for her since obv dark magic isn't normally part of the wizard track................SMIRK
