Introducing...
THE AMAZING DIGITAL ARCADE PARTY!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah, that's right, I caved in.
Basically the exact same show except its established lore and setting is more largely inspired by archive compilations of popular vintage arcade games of the 80s and 90s such as Pac-Man’s Arcade Party, as well as the different takes within the sci-fi / fantasy genre by the likes of Wreck-It Ralph, Tron: Legacy, and Infinity Train.
==
= BACKGROUND (in a nutshell) 💿 =
In an attempt to save their dying business, C&A developed and manufactured the first hybrid arcade game of its own kind that combined other popular arcade games and home console games with virtual reality. However, just as the company’s luck was turning around, numerous lawsuits from game companies by the likes of Nintendo and families were filed against the company for their product, from apparently “ripping-off” Super Mario Bros. in its entirety to causing many children to either inexplicably fall unconscious or suffer from amnesia after the cabinet’s headset was put on. Just then, as C&A announced they’ll be temporarily recalling the product to fix its issues, a shocking discovery was already made by investigators that would soon bring the company to its demise: the game’s AI had gone rogue, and once a human mind dies from losing one of the games in any way, they are either permanently reincarnated as a personified cartoon character of themselves or just straight up die in real-life depending on the outcome.
==
= ART N’ STUFF 🎨 =
(might wanna make a separate masterpost for that in the future but oh well)
NES Ragatha
Pomni and Caine redesigns
==
= Q&As and BOUNDARIES (sort of) 🎙️ =
"Are there any plans to make a full webcomic out of this?" - Uhhhh, mayyybe? I'm not entirely sure, honestly. While there may be a few side comics and artwork from my head I want to get out sometime, I don't really have much plans for this AU that'll be worth telling a full story right now since I feel there is plenty of things that I've yet to figure out and develop in a matter of time, particularly the setting and characters (especially considering the OG show itself has only 2 episodes out as of writing and I only have mobile apps like ibisPaint X to make this all possible at the moment).
"Can I make fanfics and OCs for this AU?" - Of course! I've seen a lot of incredible things from the community, especially in regards to alternate universes, so you're absolutely more than welcome to share whatever's on your mind as long as your heart's in the right place. I can't really guarantee I'll see every bit of it since I do have some personal biz of mine to take care of at any moment, but I'll be happy to reblog them whenever I get the chance. Just tag me and we all good. :)
"Are there any canon ships in this AU?" - Yes. Yes, there are. Well, only BunnyDoll (Jax x Ragatha) to be specific. HOWEVER, you are free to ship whoever you want here! Showtime (Caine x Pomni), ButtonBlossom (Pomni x Ragatha), it's all okay. The choice is yours, a romantic buffet! (Plus, depending on the quality of my writing, I'm not even planning to dwell too much into it for now, aside from the side comics that will.)
==
That's all for right now. Enjoy! :)

Tumblr media
- If people would stop pulling up Richonne while they’re in bed, I would really appreciate that
- Knew she wasn’t gonna buy into them “dying via helicopter crash”

Tumblr media
- Michonne is out for BLOOD, baby! But Rick’s right, they gotta play it smart or it’ll just create a bigger problem.
- This is really tense
- I do like how much screen time they have Jadis; she was a really interesting character and giving her 5 mins and a swift death would’ve been cheap; this was a much better end for her than I predicted
- Woo chile, a proposal; just look at them
Tumblr media
- Following something beautiful with something unfortunate; poor Gabriel
- Was it just me or did this episode go by pretty fast?

A Cat Most Curious And A Caterpillar Most Done
Tumblr media
Some thoughts on the episode. Not many original ideas, but it is fun to revisit what we got this week.
CURIOSITY KILLED THE CAT, BUT SATISFACTION BROUGHT IT BACK
This saying is the CC in a nutshell:
Curious Cat: Please, please hurry... I have many many questions!
Which in itself is interesting for 2 reasons:
They have a rather peculiar role in the Ever After
They are an embodyment of change
The Curious Cat's Role
What is CC's role in the Ever After? Obviously it is to be curious and to ask questions. Not only that, but they can move freely through the acres, rather than being tied to one, like the Hunters Mice or the Red Prince. Finally, they claim they can easily reach the tree:
Curious Cat: You do not go to the tree. The tree goes to you. Unless of course you are me... you see?
Let's use for a moment our meta-lens and let's recap everyone's probable roles:
RWBY are the protagonists
Neo is the antagonist, who might make herself a writer
Jaune might have lost himself in the role of side-character (The Rusted Knight)
The Tree is the protagonists' final objective
What is CC, then? Which role are we lacking? Who is the one who can jump to the very end of the story and move freely through the pages of a book? Who is the one who keeps asking questions and wants to always get new things and to discover how the story goes on?
CC: There is just so many characters to keep track of! Wait, what was my original question?
Yep, that is the reader (or the viewer in RWBY's case). This might be why CC hilariously embodies the fandom with all the theories, the impatience, the confusion... Their questions and thoughts are our questions and thoughts because like us, the CC can engage with the story freely, with no particular stake. They can follow the protagonists around or jump to other stories, series or characters they like.
Time changes and so do we, when it's our time to change
The CC can't stay put, their questions keep changing and they have the attention span of a goldfish... They are also introduced in an episode where a mysterious butterfly is shown flying around:
Tumblr media
Butterflies are symbols of death and rebirth. They represent change and the CC is often shown following them around. Basically, the CC may be linked to change, transformation and evolution. Because of this, it is not surprising they state the theme of the episode out loud at the very beginning:
Curious Cat: So why would I ever want to go back? Not sense in seeing a sight scene.
Younger Yang: You don't have to go forward, you know? You could go back!
At the end of the episodes the protagonists are asked exactly this. Do they want to go back or to push forward? Do they want to keep growing and developing or do they prefer to regress? Like the Red King apparently did?
The Herbalist: This is how a King winds up a Prince
And here we come to the third episode that explores the inner child archetype:
Episode 2 shows us a positive embodyment of the inner child in the form of Little > they are sweet, pure, hopeful and idealistic
Episode 3 shows us a negative embodyment of the inner child in the form of the Red Prince > he is selfish, rude, unable to deal with his feelings
Episode 4 is a synthesis and asks us the question... how can you make use of the inner child without regressing?
Tumblr media
In other words, how can Ruby grow up without losing her childhood innocence? How can she push forward without giving up her hope? How can she combine the quick and safe route (pragtmatism) with the beautiful one full of flowers (idealism)?
Can she even do it? Or will she be undone?
I AM THE HERBALIST... UNTIL I AM NOT ANYMORE
The Caterpillar and Alice looked at each other for some time in silence: at last the Caterpillar took the hookah out of its mouth, and addressed her in a languid, sleepy voice.
“Who are you?” said the Caterpillar.
This was not an encouraging opening for a conversation. Alice replied, rather shyly, “I—I hardly know, sir, just at present—at least I know who I was when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then.”
“What do you mean by that?” said the Caterpillar sternly. “Explain yourself!”
“I can’t explain myself, I’m afraid, sir,” said Alice, “because I’m not myself, you see.”
The Herbalist is clearly a revisitation of Alice in Wonderland's Caterpillar. In general, the episode takes several lines and concepts of the Caterpillar's chapter and re-arranges them differently to fit RWBY's story. Just like in the book, WBY want to get back to their normal size. Except their physical problem is clearly a metaphor for a more existentialist one. Alice doesn't know who she is because her size keeps on changing and her thoughts and emotions keep transforming, as well. WBY want to get back to normal, but their size doesn't matter that much:
Curious Cat: I don't see what the fuss is about. Most of my best friends are six inches tall.
What's important is who they are inside:
The Herbalist: We all have our titles, our roles to play, but in order to help you become whatever it is you need to become, you really should have a better understanding of what you are now.
This misunderstanding is why their meeting with the Herbalist doesn't go so well. RWBY want to simply have a remedy for their size, but the Herbalist wants to help them find their role.
The Herbalist themselves, though, are clearly struggling with their purpose. In this, they are a clear foil to Ruby (our girl foils all the Ever After's characters :P). The Herbalist earnestly wants to help RWBY:
Yang: Look, can you help us or not? The Herbalist: I am trying, but you are making it more complicated that it needs to be!
Their role is to help people find their purposes, but it is clear this duty has started to weigh on them. Everybody goes to them for help! And people even refuse to listen, just like the Red Prince! Why can't people understand the process is important? Why won't they answer earnestly to the questions? Why won't they self-reflect a little?
The Herbalist is tired. They keep trying to help, but people are their own worst enemies and so things keep going wrong. Isn't it exactly what is going on with Ruby?
Younger Ruby: It's up to you to make things better, isn't it? Everything... all depends on you! Your sister needs you, your friends need you. The whole world needs you to keep fighting forever and ever against an invincible monster that took your mother!
She has been trying SO hard to help everyone, but people lose hope, they get divided when they should stick together, they are selfish and betray each other. They give in to fear and control...
Ruby is just so done as the Herbalist is. This is why both characters have slowly lost touch with what they should do. With the true essence of their roles:
The Herbalist: And what exactly does a Huntress do? Ruby: Fight monsters, I guess? I'm sorry, I don't understand why this matters...
Huntresses do not fight monsters, but save people. And yet Ruby can't even get this right. Similarly, the Herbalist has forgotten that asking questions makes sense only if one is willing to listen. And they are not clearly. If they did, they would know all RWBY wants is simply to get back to their regular sizes. They don't want an acide trip or a theraphy session.
The Herbalist misunderstands their own purpose and their actions almost lead Ruby to give up on herself. They should help people to find themselves, but they almost had Ruby lose herself. This is why the Curious Cat calls them out:
Curious Cat: Oh Herb... Look at yourself! You are done. You're supposed to be helping others find their way, but you've lost your own. Please, let me help and take a little bit of my heart. You'll feel much better.
And as a result, the Herbalist "falls" and disappears within the Earth:
Tumblr media
Are they going to be remade? Has the acre absorbed them because they are not "useful" anymore? Or is there some other explanation? We will see in the next episode.
HUMANITY, PURPOSE AND IDENTITY
Ruby's answer to Little's "What are you?" question sets up 3 thematic axes to explore:
Humanity (I'm a human)
Purpose (I'm a Huntress)
Identity (I'm Ruby Rose)
The Ever After is a more simplistic place than Remnant. Each acre is done for its inhabitants and everyone has a purpose, which is expressed by their name. The question about identity is then simplistic, as well.
It is not who are you, but what are you? So, what are your purpose?
However, for humans the question of identity is more layered and complex.
First of all, there is a question about "humanity" itself. What it means to be humans? Are humans really such good creatures? The Ever After's inhabitants do not seem to think so.
Secondly, there is a question about one's role. What does one do? What is their purpose? The protagonists are Huntresses, but what it means to be a Huntress? Is it about killing monsters or is it about saving people?
Finally, there is a question about who you are as an individual. Who is Ruby Rose without her purpose? Who is she deep down, behind the mask of a hero?
Obviously, these 3 questions are intertwined, but so far it seems we are slowly building up a climax. Last episode, Ruby said they were humans, which sets the Red Prince off. So, this episode, Ruby opts to say they are Huntresses. However, this brings new difficult questions. I wonder if in a later episode, she is simply going to say her name, which will mean she will have to go even deeper within herself.
RWBY'S TRIP
Fittingly, this scene calls back to Mt Glenn, RWBY's first field trip. Well, they go through another kind of trip this episode :P and I loved it!
In general, the scene of RWBY in the smoke makes full use of the weapons' symbolism, which is at the core of this season:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The girls are asked to affirm they are Huntresses, so it is very powerful Yang, Blake and Weiss take out their weapons and point them to their younger selves. Not to hurt them, but to show who they are:
Yang's arc is about accepting asymmetry vs wholeness. So, she shows her younger self her mechanical arm.
Blake's arc is about accepting there are not simple answers to complex problems. This complexity is difficult to deal this, but it also makes Blake rich. Just like her weapon has so many forms.
Weiss's arc is about accepting she is Weiss Schnee no matter what. No matter the SDC, no matter Atlas or her father or her family or her legacy. No matter even if all these things are gone. So, she wields her sword, which is almost empty, just like all the things that made up who she was are gone. And yet, Weiss is still herself.
Ruby is the odd one. She has yet to find her weapon because she has lost her sense of purpose and doesn't even know who she is anymore. So, she can't affirm she is a Huntress. She can't wield her weapon with pride. She doesn't have it anymore.
On another note... each girl's Q&A moment can be commented also through the metaphor of their fairy tales:
Goldilocks is asked if she wants to be whole, if she wants to be "just right" because this fairy tale has no resolution. It lacks a proper conclusion. Yang, however, states she is going to push forward and find herself what she is missing.
Beauty&Beast is asked to give up her duality. Blake can choose to be either beast or beauty, either human or animal, either black or white, either darkness or light. And yet, she chooses this complexity which makes her Blake. Which makes her fairy tale so resonant.
Snowhite is asked to give up being Snowhite. She is asked to leave the title of her story behind. A story which is about a girl growing up. Weiss refuses this and affirms proudly she is and will always be Weiss Schnee.
Once again, Ruby is the one who fails thematically this episode. The point of her allusion is that she is both Little Red Riding Hood and the Hunter. And yet, she is not sure she can call herself a Huntress anymore. And in the end she is tempted to give up even being Little Red (Ruby Rose).
WHAT ABOUT GRIEF?
Does this episode follow the pattern of the Five Stages of Grief? So far we have:
Episode 1 > Denial (maybe)
Episode 2 > Bargaining
Episode 3 > Anger
What about episode 4? I think it may deal with the stage of acceptance, which is embodied by Blake, when it comes to the characters:
Tumblr media
This episode our Cat-Girl's foiling with Ruby is especially evident:
Blake: Huntresses are heroes! We protect those, who can't protect themselves.
She is the one who comes up with the right answer to the Herbalist's question. Ruby instead gives a confused and simplistic one. Not only that, but Ruby ends up repeating to her younger self Blake's words in volume 1:
Ruby: But... life isn't like a fairy tale
When it comes to the episode itself, the theme of acceptance is rather evident. RWBY is asked to accept their past selves. They must look their child selves in the eye, aknowledge their mistakes and their losses, accept them and move forward. WBY are ready to do it in a healthy way, while Ruby isn't. Her "acceptance" borders in depression. She isn't ready.
Finally, like in the previous episode, the Curious Cat gives up a little bit of their Heart. As a result, the Herbalist "accepts" their own death, in a sense. They are given comfort, admit they have always been a workhaolic and then they disappear in their acre...
MISCELLANIA
2 random thoughts in the end:
This episode seemed like an attempt to alchemy, which fails because the right process isn't followed. Interestingly, this is evident also when it comes to the colors. RWBY are in the yellow stage and should move to red. So, they wake up on the beach (yellow) and then move to the Red Prince's acre (red). Still, they can't go on with the set-up journey (Alyx's) and take a detour. This leads them to an acre which is rainbow-ish. However, the rainbow phase in alchemy is at the very beginning of the white phase. So, this means they are regressing and losing themselves to chaos.
CC's lines to Yang and Weiss are interesting:
CC to Yang: Well that is your problem. It's a matter of perspective I'm afraid.
CC to Weiss: Looking at you, Wise Huntress...
I think they might hint to important parts of their arcs. Yang's struggle is about learning to see things from multiple sides. So, it is important she gets called for not doing so. Weiss is instead linked to the idea of anima/animus (Knight + Queen). The anima/animus gets refined and reaches its perfect state in the idea of "Sofia" aka Wisdom. So, it is interesting Weiss gets associated to this concept directly.

Itaewon class - sortighatchats
Tumblr media
This kdrama is just too good not to sort. See @sortinghatchats and @wisteria-lodge for explanation of the sorting system. Beware of spoilers.
Itaweon class is a revenge story at its core about an underdog who does what feels right, steps up for his morals—and loses everything as a consequence. But it's also very heart-warming, idealistic, with power of friendship and lots of comfort scenes.
Tumblr media
Seroy Pak is such a shining little lion. The whole story is basically built around him being so stubborn about his morals that he defies the big bad - the chairman of the ruling food company, his father's boss, the guy everyone bows down to. Instead of doing the smart thing, the survival thing, Seroy does the feel right thing—he fights back. At every. Damn. Step. Of. The. Way.
Many many characters note how stupid that is. How much his life would have been easier if he just bowed down, knelt, begged, apologised. Played by the rules. But Seroy never does, his morals and convictions always unscathed, even if the rest of his life gets freaking wrecked for it.
Seroy beats up the school bully even the teachers are afraid of, gets himself kicked out of high school, loses his father his job. And his dad says: I'm proud of you. That's a burned and broken lion right there. "I just want you to hold your head high and live confidently how I never managed." Geez, thanks for the advice.
The first two episodes are this inspiring backstory of this socially clumsy but very firmly set lion, who loses everything including his dad and dream job and nerves, gets imprisoned....by all means should be broken down. Except he comes out 2 years later with a 15 year plan how to get revenge on the impossibly powerful guy who did it to him. Cause he shouldn't be played with. Because he, Seroy, won't bow down to this monster, he should bow to him.
The way he can calmly and confidently go spew such unrealistic idealism makes people think he is mad...or scared or insanely inspired and loyal. Seroy's roaring lion gets people around him, loyal people who breathe for his dream, who do everything in his footsteps. His employees love and admire him. His arch enemy doesn't have a reason to fear him, yet can't stop getting pissed off by his mere existence.
That's the power Seroy has.
At the same time his method is a subtle, kind hard work. That's Seroy in a nutshell. When he currently isn't saving someone from injustice and refusing to bow down, he is...at work. Slow and steady. It's all in the people and trust. He can make it, be it 5, 10 or 15 years. His goals will be fulfilled and he will get enough money, people, right the wrongs. He will get his way through steady effort and honest work. Cheating never comes into question. Protection or using contacts...don't either. Seroy will suffer to abide the law just to not get any unfair cheats from anyone. He will rather take responsibility than the easy way out.
Tumblr media
This is both, heartwarming and awe-inspiring and incredibly frustrating to watch. Especially if you are his slightly sociopathic double snake manager Ji-so. This girl is a genius and as egotistical and self-seving as it gets. She talks with people cause they are rich or have something she wants. But she is also incredibly bored by the inevitable predictability of everyone around her...except Seroy. Seroy, whose crazy morals and kindness principles don't make sense. Seroy, who is walking around all proud lion when he has nothing, no advantages, no talent, no capable employees or strategies.
From that point on, everything and everyone in Ji-so's life turns around her boss Seroy. He is the one she works for, protects, makes rich and famous. He is everything. Even when his logic and principles clash with practicality, even when Ji-so with her ruthless playful sneaky tactics would get his goal faster, she listens to him. She completely readjust her moral compass and methods so they align with his. She is his snake through and through.
Seroy doesn't fight for himself, he has high goals, revenge plans in the making, helps people around and works all honestly. It doesn't make sense to young Ji-so and she gets completely obsessed. Then fascinated. And then falls head over heels in love with him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Funnily enough, O-Soo, Seroy's childhood friend and long term love interest is a snake too. She is only in it for herself. As an orphan, she learned to look out for her survival with all means necessary. If surviving means being quiet and submissive, so be it. If surviving and prospering means working for the guy who killed her father-figure and the dad of her best friend...so be it. There are many heart-breaking moments between her and Seroy, when she apologises to him that she has to do this. That she has to choose herself above him and everyone else's good, cause that's just how it is. She can't do it any other way. And she feels guilty for it because Seroy is her person. And in a very very round about logic, she is doing it for him, for her own secret 20 year old plan of revenge. But by doing the best for him she effectively kicks herself from her own group. She betrays him, spies on him, warns him about it, but he always reassures her it's fine, those are your morals, your convictions, I can understand this.
But she is doing it for him and for the group, except she can't be with them while she does it and ends up alone. That's why she spends the show absolutely miserable, hoping for attention and love she saboteges to pay back the debt nobody asked her to pay to the one person who had treated her right.
The biggest foil to Seroy's efforts and actions is his main enemy. The impossible to defeat the Chairman who ruins Seroy's life, because the little lion refuses to bow down. In a way this makes the chairman a lion as well. His goal, purpose and feel is the company. And his pride and conviction that he is the strongest and therefore should always be winning.
In the flashbacks it seems like he did it for his family, like he build the empire for them and cares about them, but in the end the Chairman cares about the image and about his pride and ego, not about the actual people he is protecting.
Even if Seroy and the Chairman show many parallels, from starting their companies with little to big goals and inspiring roaring lion cores, they differ mainly in the methods. Chairman is a sneaky underhanded snake where Seroy is a kind hard worker. Seroy can never forgive the intimidation, contacts, masks and everything the Chairman is willing to do to get his wins and wants. Where the Chairman corrupts, lies and blackmails, whatever works best for the situation, does Seroy choose to be honest, slow, do things through his own hands.
Yet Seroy gets fuled and inspired by the Chairman despite and maybe because of the hatedred. He only and finally loses his pride, when he realizes how much he cares about Ji-so (her showing her love through helping Seroy achieve his goals is the best way to get to a lion primary) that he is willing to kneel for her. That the Chairman would go as low as to threaten her life is the last drop for him. Seroy loses all his respect for him for this and never turns back. Even when he finally gets the Chairman on his knees in turn does he care half as much as he thought.
Tumblr media
I'm not all that sure about the rest of the side-characters. The transgender cook is mainly a badger secondary through her hard work ways and fellow younger ex-gangster's loyalty and inspiration through Seroy makes me guess me think snake primary. Maybe they are all snake primaries really, cause they make big stands for each other, driven by dreams, ambitions, self-gain in a very natural, unapologetic way.
Tumblr media
Very curious case is Kun-so, who stars out so shy and beat down. Everyone kept convicing him that as illegitimate second son of the Chairman, he had no right to want anything for himself that he just seemed like such a kind, shy, polite boy. When he fell in love with Jin-So and realized he was losing her to Seroy who he admired, he quit and tried to take over the Chairman's company by being his son and turning to his image.
It didn't work out, and not because it didn't feel right. That is not a factor for him. It just didn't prove effective. Seroy wins the fight against his father, so he is obviously the one in the right. Kun-so is lost in how much he wanted, in the unstoppable greed of desiring things for himself. Did he explode as a snake? Somehow he still stays sympathetic and likeable through all his moral switches and betrayals.
Maybe it's because of his badger secondary. The kid just needs to set a goal and an idol and then he succeed through doing the hard work. Doing his best to do what's asked of him, whatever that may be. You want me caring? Okay. You want me heartless? Okay too. Huh. The switching around of morals and personalities depending on what he decides now makes me think he might be a Bird primary. He is the one who doesn't know what he wants and feels lost, except knowing he won't be like his father. He is the one who sets his goal on taking over the company once Jin-so says that will win her over. And he simply accepts Seroy's reasons and explanations for everything, simply adapting them into his code. When Seroy says he is a kid and can forgive himself, then it must be true and Kun-so accepts it as part of his new truth.
O-Soo's methods seem super sneaky. She spies and and she stabs in the back...but she doesn't enjoy it and she isn't sneaky about it. She doesn't hide it, she even apologies and warns before doing it again. Her whole 15 years old plan worked even better than Seroy's and she did it with less people, from the inside, despite how incredibly deplorable it made her feel. Doesn't that make her a good candidate for Bird secondary? She made her plan and went with it. Preparations through all her positions, through all the years, from the inside the lion's den. Meticulous and detailed, to bring down the Chairman. Great bird. Snake Bird also fits her villainous vibes until the last episode.
Seroy - Lion / Badger
O-Soo - Snake / Bird
Jin So - Snake / Snake
Chairman - exploded Lion / Snake
Kun-so - Bird / Badger

Musical theater songs I associate with TLG/see TLG characters singing
-“Candy Store” (Heathers): Literally what Kiburi and his float would sing in the episode “The Little Guy”
-“How do you solve a problem like Maria?” (The Sound of Music): Is this not everyone except Simba talking about Makuu during “The Savannah Summit”? Just listing all his flaws and shit behind his back
Could even be the Outlanders complaining about Kiburi lol
-“There, Right There/Gay or European” (Legally Blonde the musical): I’ve mentioned it before but everyone in the Outlands are wondering if Neema’s either aromantic-asexual or if that’s just normal crocodile behavior
Spoiler alert: Yes
-Ucheshi’s version of “Congratulations” from Hamilton; taking place during Kiburi and Ucheshi’s argument, Ucheshi yells at her brother, recounting the events of “Let Sleeping Crocs Lie” and explaining just how stupid his actions were by comparing him to Makuu and reminding him what Simba does. If there was a crocodile version of a slap to the face, she’d do it
Ofc Tamka, Nduli, and Neema are spying on them in the background like :0
-“God, I hate Shakespeare”: Not Ushari singing about how much he hates Bunga
-“4 Jews in a Room Bitching” (Falsettos): Janja, Reirei, Mzingo, Kiburi basically introducing themselves and how they got here living in the Outlands ig lol (Creatures in a dump bitching)
Also either Ushari or Shupavu sings “Banishment” instead of “slavery”
-“My House” (Matilda): Wrote about it here!
-“Naughty” (Matilda): The skinks (mainly Shupavu) teaching Hodari how to get revenge by causing mischief
-“Stick it to the Man”: I’ve written about this before too! I can see Kenge singing it while teaching the Outlander kids and the skinks how to defend themselves by channeling their anger. Kinda as a parallel to Bunga’s “Teke Ruka Teleza”
-“Popular” (Wicked): Anyone else see Tiifu and Zuri singing this to Vitani and her lion guard? No? Just me?
-“Murder, Murder” (Jekyll and Hyde): You know how (in my hc) Sumu had a job as an assassin who killed all kinds of animals in his past? Yeah, this song are animals singing about his little murder spree (aka doing his job that evil animals hired him for) and not having a clue who the culprit is
Also not Sumu lowkey having fun like “(Insert name of victim here) I’m happy to inform you that you are relieved of your duties….all of them”
“My dear, you should be more careful walking around at night. You never know whom you might encounter”
“Bad news from the Kings~”
-“Confrontation” (Jekyll and Hyde): Explained here
-“The Smartphone Hour” (Be more chill): Season 2 in a nutshell
SCAR SET A FIRE AND HE BURNED DOWN PRIDE ROCK WOOOAHHHH~
“Consider Yourself” (Oliver): I wanna say this is Makuu welcoming Hodari into his float as an honorary croc but I know he isn’t much of a singer so how about Jasiri welcoming my oc’s Aibu (a striped hyena) and Kifo (a black mamba) into the Outlands/her friend group. Consider themselves official Outlanders :)
Honorable mention, “Master of the House” (Les Miserable): Remember my oc, Mamba, AKA Pua’s predecessor and a complete asshole of a croc? I imagine him singing this song about being a leader
Feat. a younger Pua who legit roasts him hghfgfg

The Visual Genius Behind UY2022 [Character Designs]- An Analysis 🧐 (Long Post)
Hai there, hope you’re having a great day! Today on ‘Yuca Analyzes Silly Things (For No Reason)’, we’ll be talking about how the remake uses different methods and techniques to achieve the fun aesthetic it’s known for as well as analyzing character designs and colors!
Note: There’s a lot to talk about when it comes to this topic, so I might not be able to cover ‘everything’, So I’m only analyzing sub- topics which comes to mind. And more importantly this is the first part of the analysis, since I had to split it because of how long it is and Tumblr only allows 30 images per post, so yeah.
With all of that aside, let’s begin!
Tumblr media
First, We’ll divide the analysis into sections to make it easier to understand and explain, for this part we’ll be talking about:
Naoyuki Asano and Colors
Lum’s Multicolor Hair
Character’s Designs
Conclusion (for now)
Naoyuki Asano and Colors We start off with Naoyuki Asano, who is the Character Designer as well as Chief Animation Director (for the first ED, as well as episodes 1- 13) for the remake. As in the reason the remake looks so bright and colorful and the characters is mostly because of him! Actually, this isn’t his first time working on a retro revival which he gave fun and aesthetic designs, since he’s actually done work as a Character Designer on Osomatsu-San as well…
Tumblr media
(Fun fact: Takahashi has stated that she has enjoyed his work on Osomatsu-San! But if he was chosen to design for UY specifically because of his work on this show has never been stated). Anyways, there’s a difference in how this remake is colored compared to most standard anime, on the topic of standard anime coloring, let’s look at the ‘Obstacle Course Swim Meet’ since it was first time Urusei Yatsura’s been animated with digital animation (if you don’t count the pachinko machine’s and stuff):
Tumblr media
Now, don’t get me wrong, I LOVE THIS OVA. Not only does it adapt three chapters into one episode, plus it’s own original material, but it also manages to capture the perfect essence of UY. This OVA is basically UY in a nutshell, lol. Storywise it’s hilarious, as to be expected as special created for the 2008 anniversary, but there’s one thing I didn’t like about this OVA, and that is… the colors. Like, how to put it? Boring? Yep, that’s it. The colors are the ones which are usually used in that specific era and were also used for Inuyasha (The Final Act) and Ranma 1/2 (Like this one, OVA 2008) and these colors (or atleast similar ones) were used in other anime at the time. It’s a natural choice they picked cuz Sunrise was doing Inuyasha at the time. But boy do I wish these could be better, It’s like a case of this is how it is because that was the only option at the time, but from a modern point of view it could be made much better, and that’s exactly why UY2022 is such a visual gem!
Tumblr media
Lum’s Multicolor Hair Of course, we can’t do a visual analysis on the remake if we don’t talk about what caught all our eyes first: Lum, or more specifically her new design. The fist aspect of her design we’ll be talking about is her hair. Lum’s ever changing iridescent hair has always been one of the most solid parts of her manga design, if you don’t count the bikini that is. But even though it was a staple of her design, when the manga was getting its anime adaptation, they were unable to animate Lum’s hair with it’s original look because of how difficult it was at the time with the restrictions when it came to 80’s animation, so instead they opted to choose a different color, something more grounded instead of the multi rainbow one and they chose dark green since that’s the color they chose for ten and they thought the color balanced well with the yellow in Lum’s design. And because of that most media depictions showed Lum with green hair and because of how more popular the anime is than the manga, her green hair became more well known then the manga’s iridescent color. Which brings us to now. For the remake they opted to give Lum the green(-ish blue for more of a standout color I guess…) hair, but here her hair changes color like in the manga, but here it depends on power, mood and surroundings. Here’s almost all of the different hair changes I managed to find in the remake:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can also see how her hair is layered with different or similar colors just even in one photo (not the Otoko Kumino one since she’s pretending to be a human), this is something which is inherited and applies to everyone in from the maternal side of her family by the way (as in her, her mom, ten and his mom). However since everyone sans Lum’s hair’s color doesn’t change, the only difference in the layered colors is that they’re more or less darker than the base color. Also to note is that there are some official art which gives her more Iridescent colors from the manga:
Tumblr media
And finally her hair changes color rapidly while electrocution…
Tumblr media
Then there’s her eyes, Lum’s eyes are colored bright green in the manga, most of the time that is, other times it’s colored dark green, blue or even yellow, so the remake’s colors aren’t that far fetched. Same for her eyeshadow. (Also her bikini’s a bit different as well in the sense her tiger stripes are limited and she also has string which holds it whereas she had no such thing in the manga. This isn’t a big change either, but I just wanted to point it out. I do prefer the manga’s though). That’s all for Lum, Now we can move onto the rest of the characters!
Tumblr media
Character’s Designs The character design in general is a lot cuter (like the round faces and all) than the manga’s artsyle, like the manga’s artsyle is cute af, but when the characters are drawn in a clearer and with closer shot they tend to look more elegant (or masculine if we’re talking about the guys). I tend to think of the artsyle as a combination of UY’s early artsyle and it’s final artsyle. It also kinda reminds me of how Takahashi draws the characters in smaller panels.
Tumblr media
‘My Man, his Gremlin gf, his cute ex, and the rich dude who stole his ex’
I also realized that the characters hair highlights were based of RT’s art as well, she doesn’t always give her characters highlights, but when she does, they look like…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
‘See how the outer highlights look like each other??’
Oh, and I should also state the the highlight change color depending on the surroundings as well similar to Lum’s hair. Now we’ll talk about the different method for colors used to determine the character’s hair:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Characters like Ataru and Sakura have their hair colored as their most notable color (notable cuz of the coloring in the 80’s anime), Like Ataru’s hair in the manga is brown, but I’m pretty sure Sakura’s is black.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Characters like Shinobu and Mendo have their standard hair colors as well, brown and black (which are also their manga hair colors as well), but both are tinted with other colors, for Shinobu it’s a tint of (purplish) pink and Mendo has a tint of dark blue, AKA the most used colors when Takahashi gives them abstract colors for their hair in official manga art:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
See?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Characters like Ran and Rei have their manga colors, but as you can see their highlights are colors which sticks out more compared to their actual hair colors.
Tumblr media
And Characters like Benten have their alternative hair color from the manga instead of her actual hair color (In the manga, it’s black except when Takahashi’s going abstract, then it’s red). I think there’s also the option to use a random abstractly tinted color or just a random abstract color in general, like for Ryoko, but it’s used very rarely it seems. That’s really all the different types of hair color decisions made in the remake, everything I can think of that is (idk if I missed anything and sorry if I did). The decisions for the eye colors are really more according to what would suit them, and the colors chosen are different colors, some have regular Japanese eye colors like brown (like Ataru and Sakura), some have colors which the average Japanese doesn’t have (like Shinobu and Mendo). The aliens’ eyes also have two differences from the humans’ eyes…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Aliens…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Humans…
First, The aliens eyes are colors which are realistically impossible like ‘Hot Pink + Blue’ or ‘Bright Orange + Yellow’ meanwhile the humans have colors which are realistically possible. And second, the aliens have an extra layer of color surrounding their pupils, while the humans do not. An extra thing I want to point out is that Tobimaro’s stars are yellow instead of white, which I found kinda weird since what they were supposed to reference were originally white, but I guess these guys thought it would stand out more or something. Anyways, that’s it for the eyes! Now we’ll talk about skin and clothes. For skin color almost every character is the same as their manga counterpart except for I think Tsubame and Tobimaro, who are noticeably a bit more tan (but I don’t really care cuz somehow they look more handsomer because of that, also Tsubame doesn’t look all that alike to Godai now). As for the clothes it’s a combination of the manga’s and og anime’s colors like the ribbon on the sailor suits are colored like in the og anime instead of plain in the manga, Benten’s outfit is red in the anime instead of the steel color from the manga, The Tomobiki school uniform is like it’s manga counterpart with the black jacket and the shirt instead of the og anime’s blue jacket and random t-shirts and so on… We’ll end this entire part by appreciating how well the remake adapted Oyuki and everything related to her (like she has her actual ice hair? ice one piece? more icicles on her hair? All like the manga instead of the injustice they did to her in the og anime? Hell yea!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Okay I have to say she does get ice hair later on in the 80’s version but it’s clearly purple and kinda soft like actual hair, and not much like ice minus a few blocky lines and little glazing, I still prefer the remake though. Also the 2008 OVA gives her ice hair as well but it’s no where near pretty as this one.)
Conclusion (for now) For now we’ll have to stop here since I’ve hit my image limit. I hope I’ll be able to complete this with the next part. The character designs for the remake is very well thought out and a lot of people probably watched the remake because of the character designs. I apologize if I’ve overlooked anything or made any mistakes. If you have any doubts or questions about this analysis feel free to send an ask and if you want me to do an analysis about other characters, feel free to send an ask for that as well (but once I’m done with the next part as well as an analysis on another character). You can check out my other analysis on my analysis tag.  And finally, likes are appreciated and reblogs are even more appreciated (seriously, please reblog this so more people can see this post, since I spent a lot of time on this!!). Hope you have a great day ahead!! 💕

Ugh I am so uncomfortable right now
I have a sinus infection and I haven’t been sleeping well the past couple of nights, so I’m tired, but no matter how hard I try, I cannot seem to fall asleep
But I’m also too tired to do anything else, so I’m just stuck in this state of absolute boredom
So I just binged a bunch of anime today
Finished Dungeon Meshi and loved it. Absolute banger of a show. And so many attractive character designs. Laios? Kabru?? Daya??? The other female dwarf???? That evil elf twink????? The female orc??????
All it needs is a super femme, super bitchy queen bee type character, and it will have satisfied ALL of my types
Also Falin and Marcille are so yuri coded, love that friends to lovers schoolgirl energy
I also watched the first episode of that omegaverse anime. It was p good. I was confused why they decided to make alpha/omega relationships the taboo one, since typically that is the most common one. Because they wanted the characters to face adversity without directly including homophobia, I suppose?
Then why not make them an alpha/alpha or omega/omega pair?? That’s something I haven’t seen before, and it would better align with the whole metaphorical homophobia thing!
I mean, I know why they didn’t, but idk. It would have been more interesting in my opinion.
Additionally, I had a hard time focusing on the anime due to the way they portrayed the child, Hikari. They said he was 1 going on 2, so as someone who works with that age group, I couldn’t help but notice every time Hikari wasn’t acting his age.
I won’t bore anyone with details, but basically, his gross motor movement is pretty behind for a boy who is almost 2. Meanwhile, his cognitive and emotional development is quite advanced for that age group. His ability to speak in nearly full sentences is not entirely out of the realm of possibility (I’ve taught 1 year olds with advanced vocabularies before) but his ability to still access his vocabulary during moments of emotional distress is less convincing.
I wish it was that easy to communicate with toddlers in the midst of an emotional meltdown. It would make teaching so much easier.
However, I did think it was a cute touch that after being compared to a star, Hikari spent the rest of the day pointing out every star he saw and calling it his own name. And I appreciate that they didn’t bother showing us the 20 more times he did the same exact thing the following two weeks.
Toddlers will 100% become obsessed with a tiny detail they overhear, and talk about it almost exclusively for weeks afterwards.
So be careful about what you say around toddlers. You never know what they will internalize and repeat like a broken record for the next 14 days straight.
Anyway, that’s basically my day in a nutshell.
I’m tired of watching anime, so if anyone wants to ramble about something to me to keep me entertained while I ride out this sinus infection, please do so.
You could tell me about one of your ocs, or the last anime you watched, or gush to me about your otp, whatever suits your fancy.
Also, please do contact me if you have thoughts on which cuties from Dungeon Meshi should kiss. So far the only ones I’m shipping are Marcille and Falin, so I am open to learning more about the popular ships of the fandom.

I have not done a debrief this episode because I am still taking it all in, but I wish to speak of the scene between Rhaenyra and Alicent as long as it is still fresh and mention a few points:
1. It was SUCH a good scene. The acting, the pacing, the cinematography, the parallels between other scenes in season one
2. There was one very powerful moment that stood out to me and that was when Rhaenyra told Alicent that the histories would paint her a villain, because this basically justifies and explains every deviation from the book in a nutshell: fire and blood was written by people who were not involved and who followed their own agenda. As someone who studied history, this is so obvious to me, because chronicles written for royal houses and rulers were incredibly biased, distorted and embellished. Nothing that was written was a reliable source and neither is the book. It is based on those chronicles and the show basically shows what actually happened. Doesn’t mean every plot point was great or useful ( looking at you, Harrenhal ), but puzzle piece of a whole that will be warped and distorted by time & agendas beyond what it was in truth
3. The tragedy of Alicent saying she is finally herself and wants nothing aside from walking where she pleases and breathing the open air, when we know that will never happen. She will be a prisoner for the rest of her life
4. The last shot of them: Rhaenyra barely visible through the shelf of scrolls that contain history, being crushed by their weight but also ultimately only a small insignificant fragment of a storyline that was designed centuries before she was even born and Alicent, standing under a free sky for what will be the last time, thinking she might have saved at least Helaena and Jaehaera, before ultimately once again realizing she made the wrong choice and lose what little she has left.

Favorite Couples
Oh boy. There are so many issues and touching moments to consider. Ranking these pairings will not be fun. But love is in the air, so I'll give it a try. This is just my opinion, of course. Other people will, naturally, have preferences that differ, which is something to celebrate. It's all about what works for you.
Tumblr media
8. Sheila and Flash
With this pair, we're talking about people from two different worlds -- literally -- and two very different sides. It's no secret that their respective families don't exactly get along, but the fact that she'd been sent to take him down was a secret at first. To her surprise, Sheila found herself falling for Flash instead. Things got rocky for them once the truth came out, but the couple's affection ultimately conquered all. Also, this relationship showed that Flash could love again after Dale, and that this love could be just as powerful.
Tumblr media
7. Tori and Richie
The clashing personalities made this bond a lot of fun from the beginning. Their feelings got deeper over time, and they found themselves truly drawn to each other.
Tumblr media
6. Rick and Jedda
Probably the most well-known and beloved 'pairing' from the show. They have nice moments in episodes like "100 Proof Highway" -- which, notably, revolves around Jedda dating someone else -- and "The Golden Queen." It's all about that magic subtlety. I like how their bond has progressed in fan fiction. They basically discuss respective issues in their pasts while considering a future together.
Tumblr media
5. Dale and Flash
This legendary couple reunites in numerous tales, but they find that getting back together isn't quite so simple. There are various issues awaiting them, old and new, including Dale's deepest secrets (collusions with enemies, familial ties), and Flash's new love life. However, these two have an unbreakable bond, which endures whether there's romance involved or not.
Tumblr media
4. Kristina and Rick
Possibly the most controversial pairing after Krotan and Jedda, these former opponents find themselves working together and having discussions that lead to some unexpected warmth between them. The attraction grows as their adventures continue, and nature takes its course.
Tumblr media
3. Phantom and Hadea
Hadea and Kit have some of the longest, most intimate conversations in DoE storytelling -- and some of the most engaging as well. In a nutshell, she's a queen, and he's a soldier. On occasion, they find themselves at odds when her methods and ambitions clash with his values. Despite that, their great affection -- based on mutual respect, Hadea's love for his daughter, and her displays of compassion when it matters most -- usually brings them back together.
Tumblr media
2. Krotan and Jedda
This is probably the most interesting couple in DoE fan fiction, because the bond is, ultimately, about two people escaping their respective fathers' legacies. It's all been covered before, so I'll make it short: Krotan becomes a better person via his interactions with Jedda, and Jedda accepts that it's okay to take a different road in life than the one that she was always expected to take. After they become parents, Krotan's old habits threaten to pull him away from the family -- which would leave their children raised as Jedda was raised, with only one parent present. So Jedda puts her foot down, and insists that he gets it together. He does, and their love prevails.
Tumblr media
1. Amy and Rick
"I'm making a bargain with Damian Dark."
"No," he said, eyeing his lap.
"Rick..." she mumbled.
"No, no, no. Ames..." he groaned, "have you lost your mind?"
"It's easy for you to sit there and judge. You don't know what it's like being me."
"Sure," he said, chuckling a bit. "Growing up wishing that your dad was around? I have no clue what that feels like. Thinking that a sibling gets most of the love? I guess I can't relate to that one either."
Rick and Amy discovered a surprising and undeniable chemistry as they started to bond. While accompanying each other amid various endeavors, they found that they had more in common than they realized, which led to a strong tenderness and a lasting commitment. When comparing the top two couples on this list, I maintain that the Jedda/Krotan pairing probably features the most character development, but Rick and Amy are the most fun.

Angel Exterminatus Take 2 #17
on this episode of bluejay reads warhammer: the word undulation is beginning to lose all meaning to me, there is a sad lack of dreadnought mud wrestling, Perturabo and Fulgrim day drink, and the game of hot potato begins
dreamtime!
Tumblr media
"he was a man who lived for peace, not war"
TemplarWarden: Tbf, considering how he thinks human wave tactics and decimation are good ideas. He isn't particularly good at war. And considering how his planet rebelled, he wasn't good a peace either.
the city is full of all the buildings he designed
Tumblr media
it's kind of sad given that…literally everything he did was in the complete opposite direction than this he theoretically cares about people but when it comes to the actual, real, physical people in his life that he has to interact with…
Sky: Perturabo wants to be loved, but he doesn’t even love himself, so
TemplarWarden: Like if there's one thing I've noticed this book hammer home is yeah, he's just on big tragic flaw.
also like people asked him multiple times to make his stuff!!! but he always refuses because it won't ever be the perfect vision he has in his head there will never be that perfect moment to start
and man it is relatable
i've been fairly transparent that he reminds me of my younger self but most people actually grow out of it now granted, the great crusade is basically the complete opposite of a positive character development incubator actually wait i have a pithy phrase that sums things up "the perfect is the enemy of the good" actually huh that kind of fits the book in general given the EC
TemplarWarden: Yeah I'm looking at this and the match up does work and if he were less grumpy guts a Slanneshi Perturabo would be a interesting take. Bluejay: au where perturabo picks up the laer sword starts designing escher architecture TemplarWarden: it's super effective! Bluejay: perturabo i think would be even more vulnerable to not even examining the voice in his head
and now, perturabo in a nutshell
Tumblr media
he ends up at a square with a statue eventually and Fulgrim is there, sitting at a table in front of a bistro YES IT ACTUALLY USES THE TERM BISTRO Fulgrim: cmon have a drink with me
Tumblr media Tumblr media
day drinking, tsk tsk
even in his perfect vision he can't actually do something he wants to do well it's because a large part of him doesn't actually want fulgrim dead what he wants is for them to actually get along and for fulgrim to be normal again
TemplarWarden:
Tumblr media
Perturabo: we should be settling this like warriors Fulgrim: it's your dream and you want to be diplomats, so we're settling this with words why does Fulgrim even need to do this? why does Fulgrim even want to do this?
TemplarWarden: Because Fulgrim is extra? I mean the whole thing is a bit silly but could theoretical be handwaved as 'being extra is a Slanneshi thing'
Perturabo: it's too late for diplomacy Fulgrim: is it tho? idk this city is pretty based, i guess i underestimated you
Tumblr media
Perturabo: if i give it to you, i'll die again i'm kind of like, why doesn't Fulgrim grab it in the real world, they're standing like face to face Perturabo's severely drained and also has a bad wound Fulgrim: don't you think your life is a good price to pay for Olympia's rebirth?
Tumblr media
Fulgrim: well i changed my mind ^_^ Fulgrim: anyways give me the stone or don't, i don't care, i can do it without you Perturabo: press x to doubt
Tumblr media
arm grab! take a shot!
Tumblr media
because it's absolution that he needs and there's nothing in the warhammer universe that can give him that, lol and we're back to the physical world dream time is over and- FULGRIM IS NAKED??? WHAT??? HOW DID I MISS THAT WHEN DID THAT HAPPEN WHY WHY IS HE NAKED when did he even have time to take his armour off???
im laughing helplessly here okay i need to go back and figure this out okay so when he floats up, he's wearing armour
TemplarWarden: presumably when they started cutting him open
wait i think i got it??? maybe???
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i'm guessing though it wasn't really clear that it happened here somehow???
TemplarWarden: he never was wearing armour in the first place
wait it said:
Tumblr media
so he's got armor a paragraph before he pulls an obi-wan
TemplarWarden: Shed it like he shed a skin… snaaaake refence anyway I'm full of caffeine.
i was just assuming eidolon was stabbing through the armour NO WAIT
HE IS WEARING ARMOR LOOK
Tumblr media
TemplarWarden: Now I'm really confused. Bluejay: me too Checkerheart: "Canon can be whatever I want it to be" TemplarWarden: So while in the fairy dust dream he got naked? Fulgrim please stop being… Bluejay: I guess or like maybe his body is swelling maybe the armor is coming off??? dissolving???? Sky: Fulgrim's armour is like Schrodinger's cat Does it exist? Does it not? Who knows
okay back to the present wait WHY DID YOU NEED TO SPECIFY NAKED AND SQUIRMING WHY so cursed
TemplarWarden: Could've been naked and undulating. I'm not sure which is worse. Bluejay: I'd prefer the undulating
Tumblr media
a rare win for perturabo Fulgrim: nooooooo HOWEVER, unfortunately IT JUST KEEPS GOING
Tumblr media Tumblr media
yes it's the iron hands bird which did this for ????? reasons
and now it's time for a game of hot potato
TemplarWarden: they literally have an idiot ball
Tumblr media
Iron Hands: it's time for us to get involved in the plot!!
TemplarWarden: This is the sad kind of funny because he didn't even know that the Iron Hands made cool things too then again, no one know about the Iron Hands Bluejay: no one knows what the iron hands want to build no one ever cared to ask
okay for the first time in my life i'm rooting for someone to shoot a bird
Tumblr media
over to Falk POV and he sees the Eldar with the Iron Hands and he's identical looking to their Eldar you know, the one Perturabo killed
Falk: no time to worry about this now, gotta protect Perturabo
the part that confuses me is that they had to get all the way through the labyrinth but i guess the iron hands somehow got through the labyrinth too the super special one fulgrim needed perturabo to get into iron hands: what, like it's hard?
maybe the labyrinth stopped working when fulgrim drained the planet? why not the Emperor's Children are attacking the Iron Warriors much to Falk's irritation Falk punches right through the chest of one of them because i guess he somehow picked up a power fist at some point
Tumblr media
they aren't actually doing anything to perturabo right now, chill Falk is supremely frustrated by the state of things as it's 3-way free for all
Tumblr media
THE SKULL has powers many consider to be…unnatural seriously though, wtf
you look into the warp -> you see THE SKULL -> you stop looking into the warp -> you see THE SKULL in various places -> THE SKULL talks to you -> you have mind control powers now???
oh hey hi kroeger
Tumblr media Tumblr media
hey looks like prayer is doing more against evil than bolters
Just Say No To Khorne
Marius POV and uhhh
Tumblr media
are you sure? are you sure about that? teamkill guy? has lost none of his tactical acumen? you really sure?
oh here's some undulations for ya
Tumblr media
noise marine is noisy however it seems to have no effect on one guy
Tumblr media
i i don't think sonic cannons work like that
Checkerheart: This notably is not how sound works TemplarWarden: warp magic Bluejay: it pushes people backwards Checkerheart: A sonic cannon is essentially throwing a fuckton of wind at you Bluejay: it did that in this scene! TemplarWarden: Warp magic, don't ask questions. If nothing make sense, it's warp. The book is warp. Alternatively, rule of cool, kinda Bluejay: yeah, it's why a lot of the book doesn't really bug me even though it should i mean i'll point stuff out but honestly in general im fine moving past it it's kind of a fun moment even if it doesn't make sense haha
okay over to lucius he successfully found and killed the bird and has the stone and his follower dude is following him ruen: what's the stone owo lucius ignores him Ruen gets sniped by Sharrowkyn also apparently physical contact with the stone is a powerup it's time for the swordfight between stealth sniper and lucius
Tumblr media
so they fight Lucius loses
Tumblr media
yes he died this is before he becomes "the eternal" don't ask how he comes back from this one because it's sure not by taking over sharrowkyn i think it's dreadnought mud wrestling next so, for the record, maugetar has gone: Perturabo -> yoinked by Fulgrim -> yoinked by Perturabo -> dropped into the shaft and grabbed by the bird -> bird killed and maugetar taken by Lucius -> Lucius killed and maugetar taken by Sharrowkyn who will get it next in this game of hot potato! how much longer will the climax of this book be drawn out! find out next time cause we got 5% of the book left to go!

Hilda Appreciation Week Day Seven
@hilda-appreciation-week #hildaappreciationweek2024
Day Seven: Free Day/Favorite AU(s) (Yours, someone else's, or both!)
Now it's the last day and it's a free one. Specifically about AU's and whatever else. But I'm going to admit this. I don't really have a favorite AU. I don't really delve into many AU's in the Hilda fanbase. But you know, I have read some stuff that is AU related. Even though I mainly read stuff that could be friendly to canon or not. It depends, but again, I don't know every AU and I don't catch up with them. But I want to give praise to @wildflowers-of-trolberg and her amazing "Runaway Hilda" AU.
Tumblr media
While I have only read the "Main" story of it. Not any of the side stories from what I know. But I am genuinely impressed with the amount of work Pikablob has done for making this one big AU. She is a very talented person with all of the writing she has done. Even if we disagree on certain things. I'd recommend checking out their account if you like HIlda.
I also need to read @hyperpsychomaniac 's work as well because they are very talented from what I've seen.
But I want to talk about my own stuff. It's something I've thought of before. But it's still in development. I question if I'll continue it. It all started with a...simple story of Eda meeting Johanna in a certain scenario. And I should continue trying to write a cohesive timeline that pretty much contains Hilda, The Owl House and Infinity Train in one multiverse.
I try to make my stories canon friendly where you can imagine they likely happen in canon before or after certain things. But I did change one thing for Infinity Train. Mainly the end of book 3. But everything else before those events are canon. I'm speaking about books 4, 1, 2 and book 3 episodes 1-8.
One of the challenges I know I am going to face is adding Hilda season 3 into the timeline. Because that season revealed some game changing information for the series. But also, I have thought maybe because of season 3, the multiverse connecting these three shows might be so much easier.
Granted, I have nothing major with any huge crossovers. I've mainly written some Joheda stuff. Even though I'd REALLY want to write some major stuff with Infinity Train. My old plans were to include Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur into it. But I felt because of other plans and other things I've been thinking, I'd likely rather not add a Marvel property into it.
Yet I had announced that I would planning to add Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss into this timeline with this meme. https://www.tumblr.com/geekgemsspooksandtoons/740457984559300608/holy-shit-he-hasnt-even-written-a-story-where?source=share
But I genuinely question about deleting that and if I want to go with through with that. Because season 1 is only a thing and season 2 is going to introduce a lot of new stuff. Yet I like the funny idea of characters like Erik Ahlberg, Emperor Belos, Simon Laurent, Amelia Hughes, Adam, Lute, Alastor and the Vee's all exist in the same multiverse. Yet I should say that would be pretty terrifying.
In a nutshell, I have thought I basically made my own MCU using shows that you need to watch to understand this timeline if I were to ever crossover more of them.
I'm getting distracted and should post this. This is the last of my Hilda appreciation week posts. Thank you all for liking my previous posts. :) I really liked that this existed. It's a great way to have the fandom talk about what they love about the show.

The Umbrella Academy, S4
As a known curmudgeon I am in the weird position of feeling like I should go to bat for this season. By which I mean, it's certainly not great (my ranking is 2 > 3 > 4 > 1), but it's hardly as bad as some of the reactions are making it out to be. And a sizeable chunk of the problems with it clearly come down to depressingly familiar Netflix bullshit: it's not just that the episode order for this season has been cut down, but it's very clear that the budget was also significantly slashed. So there are no big fantastical settings like the Commission or the Marigold Hotel (the multiversal subway comes closest, but it's a single set with no site-specific characters except the leads), no ambitious set-pieces like the staggered arrivals in the sixties from the beginning of S2, not even any big dance numbers. (There's probably no better illustration of this season's reduced budget than the way the fifth episode sets up a Winter Soldier-style elevator fight for Luther, only for the doors to close so we don't get visuals, only sound.)
I also wonder how much of the negativity towards the season has to do with The Ending. Which, to be clear, is entirely fair - a bad ending tends to color your impression of everything that came before it. But is the ending of The Umbrella Academy bad, or is it just shocking?
Personally, as soon as I heard that people were up in arms about the show's conclusion, I said to myself "oh, they all die", so maybe I went in forewarned and thus wasn't as disappointed as other viewers. But I also think that in principle, this is a conclusion that makes sense for the story the show has been telling.
Every single season of The Umbrella Academy has revolved around the Hargreeves siblings preventing, by the skin of their teeth, an apocalypse that probably wouldn't have happened without their presence. They are the cause of, and solution to, all the multiverse's problems. It's hard to imagine a resolution to that situation that wouldn't involve taking them all off the board. Emotionally, too, there's a logic to this entire family going down together. This was never a "change and grow" show. The Hargreeves might make concrete changes in their lives - Viktor transitions, Luther gets married, Diego has a family - but when it comes down to it, they remain a bunch of screwed up people who can only really relate to each other, and that often very dysfunctionally. Ending the show on "I love you... but you're all such assholes" strikes, I think, the perfect note.
All that said, I certainly can't claim that S4 earns this ending or leads up to it organically. There are ideas that the season plays with - the multiversal subway, the endless versions of Five who have been trying to figure out how to get his family off the sequential apocalypse train for an infinity of time without ever figuring it out, Reginald Hargreeves's wife being a player in her own right - that should have been introduced far earlier than they are. And the way that Ben is instrumentalized to achieve the apocalypse du jour certainly leaves you feeling a certain kind of way. It is very much a case of solid premise/half-assed execution.
And having said that... isn't that basically The Umbrella Academy in a nutshell? This is a show that has retconned itself practically every season of its existence (remember when Allison rewriting the universe to her specifications was meant to be a major aspect of this season? Instead it's brought up in a single line and never mentioned again). It has always relied more on vibes than well-structured plot, on big moments than coherent plotting and follow-through. Again, I think S4, for reasons both external (that reduced budget) and internal manages that mixture less well than other seasons, but it still feels largely of a piece with what the show was and where its power came from. Personally, I tend to watch this show more for the characters, their interactions, and the gags, so let's go down the line and see how well S4 handled them:
Luther - post-S1, Luther has been a comic relief character who is defined by his sad-sackness. S4 continues in that line. I was a bit disappointed that Sloane's disappearance in the S3 finale wasn't reversed, since I really liked her and Luther's relationship. But given how much the ending of the show relies on the Hargreeves' connection to each other, that makes sense - unlike Lila, Sloane never bonded with the other Hargreeves (and didn't even seem that connected to her own siblings). I quite like the idea of Luther as a stripper who is very devoted and serious about that work, and has in fact reoriented his entire worldview so that it filters the world through the lessons of that profession, despite being very bad at it. So no complaints here.
Diego - obviously the place where the season falls down the hardest. Does it make sense that Diego, the man who named his daughter after the robot who raised him, and who was able to convince Lila that not just he, but the rest of his siblings, were her real family, would, after six years of marriage and fatherhood, completely forget to appreciate his family and be constantly on the lookout for a way out? Unfortunately, the realities of life under capitalism tell us that it is. But the way the season just leaves him in this stasis until nearly its final scenes - the way it even seems to find his dissatisfaction and detachment funny rather than tragic - is pretty depressing. Not to mention turning the most charming performer in the cast into someone whom it is genuinely unpleasant to watch.
Allison - from day one the show's most problematic character, so it's hardly a surprise that this truncated season didn't find a way to fix those problems. I think there's an attempt to paint her as "empowered" - the shift in her powers to more active and less manipulative, the more complex but ultimately healthier relationship with Claire - but it all ends up feeling pretty thin. Plus, Emmy Raver-Lampman spends the entire season in a long coat, so I'm guessing she was pregnant while shooting, which also impacts on the show's ability to do involved stuff with her character.
(As a side note, I'm not exactly sad about this, but it's interesting that the show doesn't circle back to the Luther/Allison ship. When Sloane disappeared, I thought that was the intent, since "give them each a separate love interest who eventually goes away before putting them together" is a pretty standard shipping format. Instead, they have barely a single interaction in the whole season - not even "hey, remember when you wished my wife out of existence?")
Klaus - like Luther, Klaus is a pure comic relief character, though in his case that seems to involve giving Robert Sheehan a prompt, yelling "action" and standing back. I don't love that in this season that involves spinning Klaus off into an unrelated story (though again, this is not a million miles off what previous seasons have done with him), but it's Klaus, so it's never not fun to watch.
Five & Lila - gonna make what is probably my most controversial statement in this post and say that I do not hate this development, and in fact think it makes a lot of sense. If you watched S3 and didn't come away thinking that these two had a lot more in common than Lila does with Diego, I really don't know what to tell you. And between Lila's fundamental cheerfulness, the fact that Five's cynicism has always concealed a soft, gooey center, and seven years of enforced closeness, I both buy that this would happen and am kind of into it. I also think the way they both react when they return to their own world - Five thinks he's better for Lila, while she, who chose Diego in the first place for a reason, is focused on getting her marriage back - makes a lot of sense. The real problem, as I said above, is that this is all handled in ten minutes in the series finale, instead of introducing the whole subplot much earlier and letting it play out at leisure.
Ben - definitely a mixed bag here. Character-wise, I think the season handles Ben's (thoroughly justified, given that they are not his family) disdain for the Hargreeves, and the way it's cut through with an affection that he'd really rather not feel, extremely well. And after four seasons, the revelation that none of the Hargreeves actually knew how Ben died, that their memories had been altered by Reginald after killing him in front of them, is pretty sharp (though it raises the question of why Ghost Ben never said anything to Klaus about it). But as noted above, ultimately Ben isn't a character so much as a plot token, and that can't help feeling unsatisfying.
Viktor - I really love the way Viktor's whole deal in this season both parallels and mirrors his situation at the beginning of the show. Back then, he was separate from his family but also completely at loose ends; now he's separate from them because he's figured himself out (though he's also still fundamentally a fuckup). And that makes him most able to engage with Reginald as an equal and move the story forward. It's a nice full circle for this character that doesn't ignore his fundamental Hargreeves nature.
So that's about five and a half characters out of eight handled reasonably well, a pretty decent showing for this series. I could definitely imagine a better send-off for The Umbrella Academy, but the realities of both this show and the world of streaming TV are what they are, so I'm OK with what we've gotten.

Note
hey alto. aka the resident EC player i follow. sorry. can i ask for a confirmation that theres only ONE episode of first soldier in EC right now. because i genuinely thought there were more but i just saw you reblogged the hojo and seph gifset thingy that says episode 2??????? h e l p has there only been one episode this entire gd time
The previous eight chapter segments of First Soldier we've gotten so far are basically First Soldier Part 1, to clarify. The next section with Hojo is labelled "Chapter 2" but really they should have just called it Part 2. I'll probably be referring to it as that from now on so now one gets confused.
So in a nutshell--there are currently 8 chapters up for First Soldier Part 1. Part 2 is still coming. If you want to watch all 8 chapters for just the story, I suggest checking out Faz Faz's youtube channel. They've got all the chapters uploaded, plus the events.
Hope that helps!

Rainbow Fever! Or: Team Rainbow Rocket in the EBWT AU
This is for the AU I posted about, but have been fleshing out for a while! i develloped a bit for the Team RR arc to go with it!
That's right! I’ll show you how I’d include Team Rainbow Rocket for the AU, or rather, how I’d make them worse, plus making them appear in the anime as a bonus.
Tumblr media
Team Rainbow Rocket was one of the best Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon stuff. But WOW did the writers do them dirty in the anime. They. Did. Not. Even. SHOW! UP!
Here’s how I’d give them a bit more of an impact in the Everything's Better with Triplets AU.
I do not own all fanart used in this
Setting up the Rainbow Arc
Giovanni is gonna have his USUM design in this anime. He and Giovanni are the same person here.
The members of Team RR are gonna have the most changes.
Tumblr media
since this AU's characterization of Ghetsis is characterized more like his b2w2 counterpart, Maxie and Archie are closer to their ORAS characterization here. And they have their ORAS designs.
In this AU, Archie and Team Aqua are more stupid, disorganized and ambitious with little regard for reality and the repercussions of their actions, while Maxie and Team Magma are more level-headed and logical. Maxie is more logical in that sense, almost like he's a babysitter to Archie and tries to keep him in line since Archie has no regard for anything other than his own goals.
Also, Maxie is hella gay and is dating Archie. So he's a babysitter and a boyfriend.
As for Cyrus and Lysandre, i might have to revise certain aspects regarding their basic background/backstory to better fit into the au?
Faba is also a member of Team RR. But full time, this time. Faba hates Team RR for being borderline sociopaths, and he refuses to go along with any of their plans. But Giovanni says it wouldn't really matter since Faba is not included in their ranks.
Also, Major Blanc is back. And apart of their ranks.
Fed up with recurring nightmares about both Team Plasma and the Aether Foundation, Crispin runs away from home, only to get captured by Team Rainbow Rocket. They make him into Major Blanc again, and subject all of Crispin's Pokemon to the Shadow Pokémon process.
Also, they have 2 new members - Courtney and Tabitha. Yup, I'm bringing back Courtney and Tabitha.
These two were also dragged along with Maxie, but it isn't on purpose.
They tag along with Maxie.
Courtney, Maxie's right-hand woman, is just as psychotic-yet-childlike as she was in ORAS. Tabitha is basically the same haughty, smug person, but now a bit ditzy (yup, Tabitha is non-binary in the anime).
this kind of makes Maxie and his Admins a bit of a parallel to the TRio dynamic.
their dynamic in a nutshell is just: "Surrender to us now..." "...or someone is going to die." "Of fun!"
Tumblr media
Major Blanc's dynamic with Team Magma is that Maxie quickly deems him an annoyance but keeps him around for his unorthodox thinking.
This brings the Terrible Trio of Maxie, Courtney and Tabitha's numbers up to four, but Major Blanc's clearly a wildcard who’ll flip on him if it’s convenient.
Rainbow Fever - Part 1
Tumblr media
(This two parter comes around later in Ultra Legends, to the point of it coming before "the Sun, Moon and Everyone's Dreams!")
-The episode opens with Crispin having a nightmare about Team Plasma.
-Once he wakes up, Crispin talks to Cress about his nightmares
-Cress decides he has stress
-Cue the theme!
-At the Pokémon school, Crispin complains about having nightmares about Aether Foundation, which Ash, Lillie, Mallow, Lana, Kiawe, and Sophocles get on his case for.
-Crispin walks off with Cilan, unaware that they are being watched…
-Cut to none other than Giovanni watching them, and people show up. None other than Archie, Maxie, Cyrus, Lysandre, Courtney, Tabitha, Ghetsis and Faba!
-Giovanni asks what they think of Ash's classmates, and they predict they will be abysmal.
-Ghetsis then says they bring "someone" back, which everyone but Faba agrees with.
-Maxie compliments Giovanni's strategy.
-Crispin is more untalkative by the minute. His friends try to help, but everything they do only makes things worse.
-Then Cress accidentally upsets Crispin, who tells him he's done with these nightmares, and he runs off, crying.
-Crispin runs into the woods and is attacked by Team Rainbow Rocket Grunts.
-Cilan notices Crispin is gone.
-Then the triplets go to Wicke, she reports either Crispin or Faba are nowhere to be found.
-At her office, Lusamine hears knocking on the door. The person is Gladion, who asks if they have found Faba. Lusamine denies, so Gladion leaves. Lusamine stops Gladion, wishing to talk with him, who claims he does not have the time, since Faba could do his mischief. Lusamine explains they are searching for Faba, but Gladion ignores her and leaves.
-Team Rainbow Rocket have tied Crispin up. Suddenly, Faba comes across them, and demands that they let Crispin go. Giovanni refuses and says they are going to bring back Major Blanc
-Archie, Maxie, Cyrus, Lysandre, Tabitha, Courtney, and Ghetsis raise their hands, while Faba refuses to.
-The votes are 7-1, so Giovanni just goes by default.
-They make Major Blanc a thing again, and everyone just wants Major Blanc there while Faba wants an intern. In the scuffle, half of Major Blanc's uniform is torn, so they sew half a Aether uniform onto it.
-Maxie tells Major Blanc that they should dispose of his Pokemon. When Major Blanc refuses, Giovanni orders him held down and procures a "how to make Shadow Pokemon" manual from the library.
-Meanwhile, Cilan interrogates Kiawe, Ash, Lana, Lillie, Mallow, Sophocles, and Professor Kukui, and Burnet and learns that Crispin is gone.
-After piecing everything together, Cilan comes to the horrifying conclusion that Crispin was kidnapped!
-Meanwhile, Giovanni tells Cyrus, Lysandre, and Ghetsis to kidnap Ash's friends, Archie to cause drama, and Maxie, Tabitha, Courtney and Major Blanc to kidnap Ash himself.
-He gives them Netguns and Maxie the electric net
-Team Rocket are attempting to sell Malasadas near the school when they spot the trio. They know Maxie, but don't know who the heck the other two are. Maxie introduces them as Courtney and Tabitha
-While Meowth finds it difficult to believe that someone like Courtney is Maxie's right hand, James and Jessie become furious, realizing they are apparently going to be undermined by this new trio.
-After Team Rocket rips off their work uniforms and chants their motto, Maxie says they do better mottos than them.
-Then they does a parody of Team Rocket's very first motto.
-Near the Pokémon school, Mallow, Kiawe, Lana and Sophocles are hanging out. Just then, Lysandre flies in on a glider.
-He tells them he wants them. Kiawe threatens to use Inferno Overdrive on him, to which Lysandre just fires his net gun at the four of them.
-The Magma Quartet start brainstorming for ideas, and Major Blanc says they steal Pikachu first. They should dig a hole for Pikachu to fall in.
-They do so, and Maxie starts gloating about his plan. He, Tabitha and Courtney burst out laughing.
-Unfortunately, Maxie, Courtney, and Tabitha are all laughing so hard, Major Blanc forgets to steer them away from the hole trap they had set up. The trio falls in. The laughing stops at once.
-Maxie hates that they fell in his own trap.
-Then a cement truck pulls up. Mistaking the hole for a rather nasty pot hole in the middle of the road that he can't seem to fill, the driver fills the hole with wet cement.
-This causes the cement to splatter all over the three people in the hole
-"NO!" Maxie screams, him and the admins now covered in cement
-When they get out of the hole, Maxie is mad that they got covered in concrete ("On one hand, I got to dig a hole. On the other hand..." he gestures to himself, Tabitha and Courtney, "Look at us!", while Courtney and Tabitha decide to go with an alternate plan.
-At Po Town on Ula'ula Island, the grunts are lazing around the Shady House, while Plumeria (with her newly shortened pigtails to reflect her terrible fate in the alola league) is typing on her phone. Gladion is also there. Ghetsis says HELLO, Plumiera craps herself, and Gladion demands who he is.
-Without a word, Ghetsis decides to shoot Gladion with a net gun, too.
-A now cleaned up Maxie, disguised as a bush, uses a sling to throw a candy star. Ash's Pikachu wakes up, and eats the candy. It notices the trail coming to Faba's bush, who exclaims the plan is a success. Team Rocket is at their truck, trying to sell their food. Still, they comment about Faba the creep, and they prefer to work here than for him. Wobbuffet points at the bush, as Team Rocket notices Maxie and Pikachu. Meowth realizes he wants to steal Pikachu, though Jessie is more insulted that he disguised himself, which is something Team Rocket normally does. Regardless, Meowth and James plan on stealing the Pokémon before Maxie does. When at his reach, Maxie uses his net to capture Pikachu. Instead, he finds Wobbuffet in his net, much to his shock.
-Jessie calls Wobbuffet back, and retreats with James and Meowth.
-Meanwhile, Cyrus goes to Lillie's mansion. After talking to Hobbs, Lillie's butler, Cyrus gets a potato sack and throws it over Lillie's head.
-Maxie then goes to Akala Meadow with Major Blanc, Courtney and Tabitha, and is angry that another plan failed. One angry rant later, all four of them end up covered in red berry juice due to Maxie smashing a berry tree with a baseball bat
-As the trio laugh, Major Blanc is just confused. After Maxie absentmindedly, if grumpily, wipes down his glasses, Courtney concludes that the situation calls for "desperate measures".
-Later, the cleaned up quartet goes to Pikachu Valley. Maxie then grabs one of the Pikachu, who gets mad
-Whatever voltage that Pikachu was working at, it was apparently leagues more powerful than Ash's Pikachu.
-Maxie is then seen covered in soot and with frizzy hair.
-"Any other bright ideas?" he coughs out
-Meanwhile, Archie goes to the police as they asked him if he was lost or something but Archie just refuses and sends his Sharpedo after them.
-After more unsuccessful attempts to steal Pikachu, Maxie decides Team Magma really needs to step it up.
-So they attempt to shoot Ash with Major Blanc's paintball gun. Major Blanc refuses to do so, and he shoots Maxie in the foot with paint. Maxie demands that he obey him. "Not anymore," he whispers before opening fire with a cackle
-Burnet goes to the police station as Archie explains that they are on a break. He then sends his Sharpedo atter her as Burnet runs and Archie makes it back to the Resort.
-When they stop running, Maxie is covered from head to toe in multiple colors of paint. As are Courtney and Tabitha. Maxie thinks things can’t get any worse.
-But they can… Much worse!
-They’re then chased by the Bewear who'd normally bother Team Rocket.
-They jump in a river to escape.
-Team Magma ends up panicking because they're about to fall off a waterfall. As they fall off the waterfall, Maxie angrily yells about his hatred for Giovanni.
-Cut to Giovanni baking cakes. Just then, the people he sent out come back. Maxie, Tabitha and Courtney are soaked, paint smeared, filthy wrecks ready to flatten Giovanni with a steamroller if one were available.
-They roast Giovanni for sending them with Major Blanc.
-"You told us Major Blanc would watch over us," Maxie says with a sneer, "but I guess he did the opposite…"
-Team RR places Ash's kidnapped friends in prison-like cages.
-As for Gladion, he's imprisoned as well.
-The episode just ends with Team RR laughing
Rainbow Fever - Part 2
Tumblr media
-According to the recap, the events of the last episode apparently happened LITERALLY a day after "To Z to Shining Z!". Oops.
-Cue the happy theme
-Giovanni holds a meeting with his members, and Maxie whines that being evil is way harder than you’d think, as the last episode.
-Giovanni states if he wonders if Major Blanc betraying them has anything to do with the three boys that Ash has been hanging out with as of late. He shows them a photo of the Striation Triplets, and tell me Team RR won't react the same way they did in this fanart:
Tumblr media
-Anyway, Maxie demands what else Giovanni knows and Giovanni holds a piece of paper and inadvertently blurts out, via his nervousness, that Maxie is gay.
-The other Rainbow Rocket members aren't that surprised though. Maxie tries to cover his tracks, and digs himself into a hole.
-Giovanni concocts a scheme to take down as many people as he and the other Rainbow members can
-Courtney and Tabitha come in, and Maxie greets them.
-"Listen, there's no way that halitosis-riddled Team Rocket is going to win," Maxie says haughtily. "I've got the superior trio, in brains, brawn, and beauty. Team Rocket doesn't hold a candle to us, not in a million years."
-For that last remark, he got a bag of flour thrown on him courtesy of Giovanni, which broke open. The sight amuses Courtney and Tabitha, who break into laughter.
-"It's not funny!" Maxie screams, as he wipes his face down.
-After Maxie gets half the flour off himself, Faba comes in, holding a bowl of cake batter in his hands.
-Faba decides that Team Rainbow Rocket will test Ash's mettle and the triplets’ bonds as a family. Maxie counters that villains are people, too.
-Maxie is irritated by Faba's antics, so he attempts to get Major Blanc to shoot him with paint. But Major Blanc shoots the ground
-Faba throws the bowl. Causing it to sail through the air and splatter cake batter all over Maxie.
-"Oops!" Faba remarks. "Looks like you've got a bit of something on you, Maxie!"
-Maxie vows that he'll get Tabitha and Courtney to hold him and one of his Pokemon next time Faba comes to him. After this, he walks away in indignation.
-Meanwhile, Ash and the triplets watch a TV, hoping to find clues as to Crispin's whereabouts.
-"Attention vermin!"
-Suddenly, Giovanni comes onto the TV and announces they've got Crispin. He then tells them about Team Rainbow Rocket. The central premise of this sinister team is that its members are parallel instances of villainous leaders who were successful with their schemes, like a Cyrus who rewrote reality or a Lysandre who obliterated Kalos. And he tells them to go to the Rainbow Resort to stop them in an event called "The Rainbow Rocket Trials".
-Ash is horrified as Giovanni signs off the TV announcement.
-Cilan says they have to go to the Rainbow Resort.
-Chili gets a paintball gun, and Cress brings a baseball bat. Ash and Cilan bring the Z-crystals.
-They go to the Rainbow Resort.
-But Faba shows up, telling them not to enter.
-Cress roasts him, and he leaves
-The triplets and Ash enter the castle, and the Rainbow Rocket Trials begin.
-Ash fights some Team RR grunts
-am i thinking of a scenario where Team Rainbow Rocket essentially splits Ash and the Triplets up by re-randomizing the floor they’re on, effectively acting like the Mysterious Wind in the PMD games? Yes I am
-Cress and Chili end up in one room and get grabbed by Courtney and Tabitha. Maxie turns around and sees them. Cress introduces himself, and introduces Chili, his brother
-Maxie tells them how he got here, and Cress butts in to give his thoughts. Courtney says they also got pulled away, but it wasn't on purpose if they recall.
-Cress asks where's Maxie's Magma Grunts, and Maxie looks at him, flashing a malicious grin. "they’re gone."
-Meanwhile with their brother Cilan, he and Ash get stuck with Archie.
-I think Cilan would drive Archie up the wall with his incessant gabbling… until he tells them he's going to flood Alola
-Cilan is horrified, and he tells Archie that pirates should be "cool guys, sailing around, enjoying freedom", not murderous brutes.
-Then Cilan and Ash get into a battle with Archie.
-If you're wondering about Cilan's brothers, Cress tells Chili to handle Courtney and Tabitha, while Cress himself battles Maxie.
-His Pokemon make good work of his Crobat, Mightyena, and Camehump. But then Cress has a horrible realization that Maxie has a Groudon.
-Regardless, Cress brings out his vespiquen for the Groudon, and in a case of type moves being skewed, uses his Z-ring for a powerful Savage Spin-Out attack.
-Back with Cilan and Ash, they also come to the same realize that Archie has a Kyorge. Meaning that both are inescapably screwed
-Or so it seemed, until Cilan decides to take command of that situation and save Ash from Kyorge immediately by using a Z-Move (in this case, Bloom Doom) on it.
-Meanwhile with the other triplets…
-"NOOOOO!" Maxie shrieks to the heavens
-He then says that they will dry up Alola anyway
-Cress gets angry, and tells Maxie that he threw his grunts under the bus.
-Maxie nods, happy that he, Tabitha and Courtney are the last remaining Magma members. He also mentions that all of Team Aqua but Archie drowned
-Cress decides to teach Maxie a lesson
-Chili shoots him with his paintball gun several times (and I have the humorous image of that scene in tetocu being recreated with Maxie)
-Then Cress pins him down and proceeds to torment him
- For example, Cress spreads glue all over Maxie and throws leaves onto him.
-He then has Panpour use Mudsport on Maxie
-Then Chili hits Maxie in the chest with Cress's baseball bat.
-Cilan and Ash then run out of Archie's room, and Cress and Chili join up with them
-Just then, Archie shows up, and he flirts with Maxie. Maxie is less covered in glue, mud and leaves, but his clothes are a bit stained and are in need of thorough washing
-Just then Guzma shows up.
-And as Guzma refuses to be part of Team RR’s regime, Maxie tells Team Rainbow Rocket Grunts to take him to the place where everyone else is. Which they do, and the triplets and Ash nope the hell out of there
-The four are on their way to Cyrus, but are caught by Major Blanc. Major Blanc's mind-controlled Pokemon attack them. Thanks to Ash, Chili, Cress and Cilan peforming Gigavolt Havoc, Inferno Overdrive, Hydro Vortex and Bloom Doom respectively, they free Crispin's Pokemon. They turn Major Blanc back into Crispin, and they escape.
-The Cyrus scene would mostly play the same as the original USUM.
-When Cyrus tries to take a look at Rotom, Ash and the brothers get into a fight with him
-The battle is one-sided; all of their Pokemon are no match for Cyrus's. Even Palkia is dealt with thanks to Crispin doing Never Ending Nightmare
-After the fight, Ash falls down a hole in the ground
-Then the brothers run into Lysandre of Team Flare. He tells them that he had just unleashed the Ultimate Weapon to end all foolish life, leaving only Team Flare alive, but he got zapped to this world instead. He attempts to make the brothers turn the Ultimate Weapon on, but they refuse and they get into another one sided battle with him.
-Chili lands the finishing blow with his Beartic's Subzero Slammer
-Then Crispin falls down a hole
-"There is no room for Team Plasma, but with all these other rooms, I think we're good for a while." Cress tells them
-The triplets then ahead towards the room where everyone else is kept
-Or, they would have if they weren't stopped.
-"Well now, what do we have here...? I come out wondering what the commotion is... only to find the door to the center of the castle ajar, and intruders running wild! It seems those team leaders from other worlds are not nearly as useful as I had hoped."
-It's Ghetsis of Team Plasma. He gets into a fight with the three at once
-The battle is long and brutal
-At the end of the battle, Ghetsis tries to get Cress turned into a human kebab, however Cilan pulls out his Uno Reverse Card, Colress roasts him and Ghetsis gets erased from existence
-Cilan and Chili fall down a hole, and Cress follows
-Then Cress confronts Giovanni
-Giovanni sends out his Pokemon, forcing Cress to send out all his
-As Giovanni runs roughshod over Cress's Pokémon, he offers him a choice: either die, or join them. Archie and Maxie both decry what Giovanni has done, and even Cyrus soon turns against Giovanni.
-Cilan and Chili try to help, but the cage prevents them
-This incites Giovanni to declare that brotherly love doesn't exist.
-Cress shouts "No, that's wrong" like a Danganronpa protagonist.
-Cress told Giovanni he loved being a triplet. He punched away Nidoking as he said he loved the way Cilan lets bugs crawl out of his food instead of crushing them like Chili. His Dugtrio jumped at him again as he said he loved how Chili says the dorkiest things when trying to sound cool. Giovanni sent his other Pokemon at Cress, but that didn’t stop him, as he said he loved being a waiter most of all.
-Just then, Faba, who had been lurking in the shadows for most of the episode, gleefully revealed himself as the Aether Foundation's first ever traitor. He tells the triplets that he works with whoever he damn well pleases.
-Team RR give him the stink eye, and Courtney tells Faba that at least she currently has no plans to betray Maxie, given that she's his right hand
-Faba then snaps like a waistband, screaming "Idiots! I specialize in psychic types, which will destroy you! You'll all be ruined! Forgotten! Spending eternity rotting in the Distortion World!"
-Then Giovanni sends out the big, bad Mewtwo.
-Deciding this will be a piece of cake, Cress decides to step it up. However, over the course of this battle, Mewtwo sweeps most of Cress's team.
-Cilan is uncertain of his brother's chances to defeat Giovanni as his Pokémon’s numbers keep decreasing, but Chili gives his brother words of encouragement to face Giovanni alone.
-Realizing how much the triplets have changed since Unova, Giovanni drops his innocent facade and uses Mewtwo to turn Cress into stone.
-That's right: Giovanni's Mewtwo can turn people into stone here.
-As Cress stands motionless, Panpour rushes over to check on his Trainer, but he is unresponsive. Panpour tries one Bubble Beam after another, but his attempts are all in vain. Panpour begins to tear up and cry aloud, fearing his Trainer is now gone. Cress's other Pokémon are also drawn to tears by this, and the cumulative effect brings Cress back to life and frees everyone.
-Cress gets a confidence boost as a result, distracts Giovanni by throwing a bowl of cake batter in his face, and decides that Giovanni could benefit from a little 'fun'.
-Sophocles' Togedemaru and Charjabug use Zing Zap and Discharge, to fuse with Ash's Pikachu's Electroweb. primaina uses sparkling aria, and Tsareena fires Magical Leaf. Turtonator uses Flamethrower, and Snowy adds a Powder Snow to the mix. Crispin has his Passimian use All-Out Pummeling. Gladion's Lycanroc uses Devastating Drake, Chili uses Never Ending Nightmare, Cilan uses Shattered Psyche and Cress uses Acid Downpour.
-By the end of the battle, Mewtwo is unconscious. Faba is in shock, as Cress should have been weakened after he was turned to stone. Cress says wrong, and he's now stronger than ever.
-As he is surrounded by a blue aura, Cress takes Ghetsis's cane and slams it into the ground. Causing blue energy to cover the ground, teleport the parallel leaders (plus Courtney and Tabitha) somewhere and turn the Rainbow Resort is returned to normal (it's basically Lusamine's mansion from the games, except it was retooled to be the Aether Foundation's backup research place instead.)
-Cilan and Chili compliment their brother, and Crispin tells him he did great
-Cress thinks it's nothing, but is glad that the backup Aether place is back to normal.
-"Okay, brothers. We should never speak of the Rainbow Resort and Team Rainbow Rocket again" Crispin tells them
-Cilan nods.
-After the brothers call it a day, we see giovanni already plotting his next move.
-"Those kids have beaten me for the last time, for the last time! They say fight fire with fire. Well, I will create an inferno! An inferno that will bring me dictation! Because we're not quite done with you, Ash Ketchum." He vows.
-While baking chocolate chip cookies later on, Cress pets Panpour in Professor Kukui's house, and tells about how he learned a new Z-Move during the "never-to-be-repeated or spoken-of-again adventure". While Chili and Crispin want Cress to do Acid Downpour again, Cilan doubts that his brother would be angry enough to unleash that move.
-Cue the credits!
Fun Facts
As you saw here, this wouldn't be shot-for-shot line-for-line USUM's post game, just animated. While it's true that whole lines of dialogue and even camera angles from the 2017 game would be remade in this, this would be a two parter, because, let's be honest, there are too many changes to the arc not to do so.
It allowed me to show Team RR capture Ash's friends.
And the ending was changed to make it less ambiguous than USUM
In Japan, the two parter would probably be called "The Treacherous Rainbow Rocket Trials!"
Crispin knows from experience that he doesn't want to be Maxie, and being Maxie means to be manipulative. Crispin wants nothing to do with that, and that's why he helped Cress in the final battle
Team Aqua and Magma are way closer to their ORAS versions, to the point that they’ve probably been getting worse (in the good way) than in canon.
Maxie already exhibited a lack of morals in canon ORAS, so being successful in causing Hoenn to dry up would only ramp those up, despite not treating Tabitha NEARLY as horribly as Faba treats Crispin.
I just wanted to make sure that this version of Cress is neither a gary stu nor a background character.
the first part of this two parter is basically Maxie teaming with Major Messy lmfao
As for Ghetsis being Melvinborg'd? I wanted to give Ghetsis the cruelest end I could imagine, go way beyond the “and he's arrested lol”. Also I wanted Colress to have a moment to stand up and tell Ghetsis to his face that he sucks.
Don't worry, this isn't the last you'll see of Ghetsis, or Team RR for that matter ;)
