Season 6.5 Flash AU

So the universe is rebooted and Iris is now married to Eddie. Which is fine because she was married to Eddie pre-reboot too. Barry, however, was dating Hartley. Barry had an engagement ring he was planning to give Hartley if they survived crisis since, well, he didn't want to pull a Xander Harris and make Hartley think he was only proposing because he thought they were all gonna die.

But the universe reboots and... Hartley's just gone. No Hartley. No hidden ring. Barry lives somewhere else entirely. It's hell. And then in trying to find Hartley - because of course he does, immediately, hello? That's his boyfriend/love of his life, of course Barry's looking for him to fix things... only...

Barry learns about Roderick and how when his lightning combined with Hartley's sonic tech, it sent Roderick into an out of phase state that was incredibly painful and was 'solved' by putting him into stasis like sleeping beauty. Hartley is still in love with this guy and, understandably, loathes Barry over it.

And Barry's heartbroken, resolves to just... stay away from Hartley. Of course then the Godspeed problem happens and the only person who can help??? is Hartley.

Things play out similar to canon, but weirder because of course Barry is making it weirder. Hartley is like 'is the Flash a little homophobic or...' and Cisco is just like 'no he's bi but he lost his boyfriend recently just back the fuck off' like a good bestie. And naturally Hartley uses his super-eavesdropping powers and learns that he! is the boyfriend! the Flash just lost.

He is reeling from the revelation and still winds up saving Barry's life while trying to figure out what the actual fuck is he supposed to do about what he knows. Pretend he doesn't? Does he go back to his life with his newly woken up boyfriend that he's spent five years pining for and just... pretend not to know the Flash is in love with him?

Like, of course he's not ditching Roderick. He's spent five years waiting for Roderick and he'd have spent his whole life waiting for Roderick if he had to, but... he cannot pretend that he didn't hear that.

So he tells Roderick, figuring they'll just... steer clear of the Flash from now on, it won't be weird right???

Roderick - I mean we could avoid him for forever, it'd probably be pretty easy to do so. Or, and I am being serious, we could just... seduce him and have a polyamorous relationship with him?

Hartley - I've spent five years hating him over what happened to you.

Roderick - Yeah, but it was really all three of our faults and you don't hate you or me over it, right?

Hartley - ... I don't hate you over it.

Roderick - Okay so self loathing issues to work on helping you get over. Alrighty, good to know. So do we want another hot guy in this relationship or what?

And thus operation Seduce the Flash is go.

Naturally they smack face first into the problem that is Barry Allen's true super power, the power of obliviousness.

"Three weeks ago I woke up from a coma to find my boyfriend was killed nine months ago, my best friend is presumed dead with several of his colleagues, he's a C.S.I, his boyfriend- my friend- is missing, and there is a monster terrorising my home. I can't do nothing, I can't run away, and neither can the three of you. Jesse, he took your dad and now he's breaking into labs across the city. I was a journalist before the lightning, I can find out what he's taking, can you help me work out what he wants it for?" "To what end?" Hartley asked. "None of us can fight him." "Not alone," Iris said. "But I woke up with these too." She held out her hands, letting them vibrate, letting the purple lighting wrap around her, letting its warmth push out into the air. "I might not be the Flash," she said. "But Zoom's not winning while I'm still standing. Can you help?" Caitlin looked up at her, brown eyes bright with wonder and hope and determination. "What's the plan?" she asked.

Nine months ago S.T.A.R. Labs' particle accelerator blew up, killing Ronnie Raymond as he tried to shut it down. Nine months ago Eddie Thawne was shot in the line of duty, trying to stop Clyde Mardon getting on a plane and fleeing the city.

Nine months ago Iris West was in her best friend's lab when she was struck by lightning.

Two months ago Zoom finally broke into C.C.P.D. and killed four people before the Flash showed up. Before he turned his attention to the Flash, very publicly showing the city a broken body, before disappearing into the night with his prize.

Two months ago Zoom ripped through S.T.A.R. Labs, shattering the building, taking Doctor Wells from his office, and leaving the building deserted. Leaving his daughter alone.

Three weeks ago Iris West woke up from a coma to find the world a different place entirely. To find her boyfriend dead, and her best friend gone, nothing left but the blood found in his lab the night Zoom broke in. Wally said Cisco refused to believe it, that he told Wally Barry was still out there somewhere, that he would find him, but no one's seen him since either and everyone can only fear the worst. Zoom took them both away from her, and Iris is not letting him hurt anyone else like he's hurt her.

Now, Zoom's metas run riot on the streets of Central. Sand Demon, Kind Shark, Reverb, Black Siren, too many to count, too many to fight, too many to hide from forever. Caitlin knows the choice Zoom offers to them all. Join him, or face the same fate as the Flash, as the only one who dared deny him. For months all she has felt she can do is delay the inevitable for as long as possible. That all she has left is fear.

Something about Iris West makes her want to be brave.

Nine months ago, Caitlin Snow lost her fiancé. He gave his life determined to save as much of the city as he could. If Central falls to Zoom, then Ronnie gave his life for nothing, and Caitlin is not prepared to let that happen any more.

None of them can fight Zoom alone. But together?

If Zoom thinks he's won, he's got another thing coming.

🦌 : DELICATE DEER . . . what fantasy media inspired your desired reality? does your desired reality follow the same rules as it? if not what are some of the changes you've made?

my ARROWVERSE DR — clearly inspired by the arrowverse franchise of tv shows on the cw , i grew up watching the flash and fell in love with grant gustin’s interpretation of barry allen ≈ i took a lot of liberties with this dr tho, obvs bcs of the evident downfall in quality and writing on all the shows, and the fact that there were just so many plot points and details that i didn’t fuck w lmfao. i’ve essentially done a whole rewrite of the arrowverse hence why i have a fic in the works but just to give a small sample of things that i’ve changed/updated/improved (in no great detail, mind you) ;

— oliver isn’t some regurgitation of bruce wayne/batman, he actually has a bit of that ollie queen personality (taken a lot of inspo from the beautiful justin hartley and his version of ollie from smallville which is another dr i wanna script for so . stay tuned) + no olicity .. oliver x laurel/dinah all the way .. not even sorry come at me

— iris isn’t massacred as a character and i’ve scripted that she goes through proper growth and development beyond “love interest” (also obvs bcs . i’m barry’s partner ..)

— as a result of this being a dr, crossovers are more common, don’t be surprised when i drop by starling city bcs felicity borrowed my old infiltration tech and forgot to return it

— not only does the arrowverse superhero cast exist but i introduce batman and superman as well as wonder woman, green lantern, aqua man, essentially creating a proper justice league like they tried to do before covid but i also include young justice, for the younger heroes like roy and thea, wally, jesse, and eventually dick, donna, artemis, kaldur - letting them have their own place and their own missions

for my MARAUDERS DR — it’s obvs based off of the harry potter franchise and the wizarding world, a HUGE part of my childhood and regardless of the controversies behind the creator (who i do not agree w obvs) i just cannot seem to let go of this franchise emotionally, it means too much to me . again, a lot of liberties were taken when scripting this but the marauders fandom seems familiar with taking liberties in their lore

— dumbledore wasn’t a total fool and actually stopped tom riddle before he became a global threat (meaning the main “conflict” of my dr - aside from the usual hubbub of school work and stress abt exams - is a mystery that i’m currently cooking up and brewing in my mental cauldron so be ready for the upcoming bottled potion)

— there’s multiple wizarding universities and schooling/education doesn’t simply end after 7th year, there’s apprenticeships, part time work, internships, and full time unis and colleges, travelling during post-schooling is encouraged as well so that witches and wizards can get a more advanced and enhanced understanding of magic as an extension of our soul and our being rather than just this tool that we harness, we learn the nuances of magic and wizardry through the eyes of different cultures and places

— hogsmeade has been upgraded, more shops and stalls and restaurants and there are specific stores and services offered that are catered towards hogwarts students, there’s just more . like, in general, and i’ve added other locations to the areas around hogwarts like a muggle village and a forest that interweaves between the field behind the shrieking shack and the road that leads to said muggle village, certain landmarks like a lake on the outskirts of hogsmeade, an abandoned water fountain that never spouts water no matter how much magic is used to fix it (there’s a story behind this) so yeah, just more

— i fix the relationship between sirius and regulus much sooner and given the lack of riddle and death eaters, the black family’s sick and twisted obsession with blood supremacy ends with this generation, from bella all the way to regulus, it ends here

I love this ship. It's an underrated ship to me, could do with more attention. I don't know that I'd call it cute specifically, though it can be.

They've got the enemies to lovers angle that I enjoy so much. I would, and do, read fics about them. And I write fics about them too.

There are a lot of parallels between Barry and Hartley, most especially in how Eobard treats them both as his special 'chosen' ones. And he lifted them both up with the intention of throwing them away. So I really like the idea of the two of them healing together. Though Eobard isn't all they have in common and it's interesting to examine those too.

Hartley's estranged from his family and it's not hard to imagine that Barry's belief in his father not only caused friction with Joe but with any bio-family he might have left. Shared interests in science - Hartley's a physicist and physics is a big part of the track taken to become a CSI. They're both scifi and fantasy nerds...

There's just a lot going on there that makes them an interesting ship.

Barry/Cisco/Hartley - PiperFlashVibe

Okay so this one I do find to be a cute ot3 but that's because the Cisco/Barry side is already adorable in their canon friendship. Those two are just adorable together and I have no doubt that adding in Hartley would just make their cuteness more dangerous.

My points about Barry/Hartley carry over to Barry/Cisco/Hartley. All three of them have a lot of things in common to draw them together. And if they spent the time and effort on building a relationship, then I could see them being very happy together. With a bed big enough for all three to cuddle. :D

I’m still thinking about Hartley Rathaway and how he dedicated years of his life and career to building that particle accelerator. I’m thinking about how the only “good” relationship he had with anyone as an adult was with EoWells, because his parents had disowned him and he was kind of dick but EoWells encouraged that and isolated him from the rest of his coworkers (calling him “his guy”, spending too much time together, playing chess, etc. - not to mention the fact that Hartley clearly knew where he lived and whatnot when Cisco, Caitlin and Barry had never even gone in there). Thinking about how EoWells groomed him to the point where Hartley had placed his trust in him solely, and so when that trust was broken, nobody believed Hartley. Because the only person Hartley had was EoWells. Thinking about how when Hartley tried to the right thing anyway - it didn’t work. The accelerator “malfunctioned” and his life, his DNA, and his body were all changed because of it. And so were hundreds of other people’s. Not to mention the fact that other people died because of it. No good deed goes unpunished. Thinking about how he was right about EoWells all along, and he never found out everything. Thinking about how he must’ve felt hearing the man he once he cared for so deeply, the man who hurt him, the man who had already betrayed him, had confessed to a murder that happened years before he ever knew him. Thinking about what kind of life he must’ve had in the S1 timeline. He’s such a fascinating character, I really wish we got more of him in the earlier seasons.

Worldbuilding/Etc: My Soulmate AU [1]

-My asks are open, so feel free to send asks if you want me to make a post abt something specific in this AU, whether mentioned in this post or otherwise

-In a reincarnation scenario, soulmates can change. In the case of Kendra and Carter, theirs have never changed before, so in most lives they believed that theirs could never actually change. This is wrong. Kendra's soulmate is not Carter Hall

-Connected to above: It is so extremely rare that people don't even think it's possible in some areas, but sometimes someone can have a soulmate but not be their soulmate. Which can be an interesting time for everyone involved, especially if there are romantic feelings in the mix

-Mick Rory does not currently have a soulmate, and has no memories of every having one. He has oft thought fire to be his soulmate, in a way, because watching the flames makes him feel warm, like there are flames under his skin

-^^in a synesthesia way not a horny way. Please do not be weird about the fire, I'm just a little guy (/lh)

-People can sometimes get a new soulmate after theirs died, but it's not overly common in the mortal communities. Much more common in the immortal circles

-Soulmates of time travelers can use heartbeat and what they know of their partner to figure out if they're talking to the version of their partner who is synced with their part of the timeline, or if they're from the past/future

-Having multiple soulmates simultaneously is possible, and can make some things confusing/fun

-Iris and Eddie are soulmates, but they took forever to tell each other their suspicions bc they didn't want to look like they were moving too fast or pressuring the other into anything

-The author of this AU keeps trying to give Barry 2 platonic soulmates on top of his soulmateship with Snart, but is actively choosing not to even when their brain is pouting about it

-Caitlin's soulmate is Ronnie Raymond. She's had... a time.

-Lisa had a soulmate, who she met when she was fifteen and they were dating until she was 16. This was another girl her same age, who lived in her neighborhood. Unfortunately, she died when they were 16, and Lisa took a while to come even close to recovering from that

-Lisa is especially attracted to Cisco because she thinks he also does not have a soulmate. He... technically does... but they aren't together right now and there doesn't seem to be any future plans of them being together, so he has forced the possibility out of his mind and pretends he doesn't have one

-Mark and Clyde Mardon are an example of platonic soulmates who are siblings

-Joe's soulmate was not his wife and he knows who they are, but he firmly Does Not Talk About Them. Iris and Barry both firmly know that topic is Completely Off Limits and never bring it up

-Hartley hasn't knowingly met his soulmate yet. They're still alive! So maybe one day they'll meet

-Fun Fact: Hartley once thought that his soulmate might be Dr. Wells, because the man seemed to have an eerie ability to track his emotions, but eventually realized that was wishful thinking and that this was definitely not the case

-Barry knew he and Snart were soulmates before Snart knew Barry Allen was the Flash. He didn't know how to approach this, so this led to him just turning Golden Retriever energy to 11 and hoping for the best

-Time travel and dramatically changed timelines can alter soulmate connections ^-^

-People are more likely to be soulmates with people in their general region than otherwise, but it is rarely possible to have a soulmate across the world

-There are "Find My Soulmate" apps where people can be like "Hey I had a panic attack at this time and it lasted for x minutes, did anyone feel that?" or "Hi! I play soccer, has anyone had elevated soulmate heart rate consistently on these days and times as if said soulmate is engaging in physical activity?" and other such things

-Sometimes when a person on a sports team meets a person through those apps who almost CERTAINLY is soulmates with a member of their sports team, they all run experiments together to make sure it's the right one

-If a time or dimension traveler without a soulmate time/dimension travels, there is a small chance they can become soulmates with a non-soulmate-haver in the area. Which can make things fun and spicy for everyone involved!

-Eobard Thawne had a soulmate in his future, but he killed them because the bitch got ISSUUEESS

-^^He was always on the lookout for that telltale heartbeat, in case the time travel fuckery gave him a new soulmate. It never did. But there was someone that he had wished, for sometime, that he would be given that connection with. It's so much better for the other person that it never did. (It couldn't have, really, bc their soulmate was still alive technically, but it's Really Good that it didn't nonetheless)

-Joe had really really wanted Iris and Barry to be soulmates, ever since they were little kids. And he didn't completely handle it well when he learned, without a shadow of a doubt, that they were not.

I’ve made some headway on the 1x15/1x16 fic:

some good news: the prelude of this fic is officially over, and we’re moving into the actual plot of 1x15 now! So things are about to get very exciting (and hopefully they’ll start moving a little faster 😅)

Because, miracle of miracles, Felicity had been able to make it…and so had Linda. Wally had been adorably happy about Linda being back in Central, and Iris didn’t miss the way her friend’s eyes had lit up upon reuniting with him. (If she’d intentionally arranged things so that he would be the groomsman walking next to bridesmaid Linda Park…well, that was no one’s business but hers, Barry’s, and the wedding planner’s. Wally hadn’t been the same since Jesse had inexplicably broken up with him, and Iris was determined to keep her baby brother smiling today.)

Peep the Wallinda tease and expanding Iris’s bridal party! Most especially, including Linda, which the show didn't but should’ve 💀 also, reminder that this is a fic where everything goes smoothly for them. So Oliver didn’t attempt to propose to Felicity during Westallen’s rehearsal dinner, and Westallen’s wedding will not be crashed (the Earth-X stuff doesn’t happen)

I’m determined to finish this in the next few days so I can post it in Jan...since ofc this is the January YOTP fic 😅 one way or another, it will be finished in 4 days or less
