everyday i see clueless westerners (especially white people) peddle thinly veiled hindutva propaganda which they wouldn't know cause they know absolutely nothing about what goes on in india. so here are some signs that that the person you're talking to is a hindu nationalist:
they either do not acknowledge casteism or claim that caste is a western construct. my personal favourite however is dismissing anyone bringing up caste discrimination by saying that the indian constitution outlaws untouchability. they may also bring up the fact that the prime minister belongs to an other backwards class (obc) so clearly india has moved on from caste and hindutva isn't only for the upper castes. they possess a shallow understanding of caste
harping on about "islamic colonisation" : no, the mughals did not colonise india. when you point this out, they will immediately assume that you think muslim invaders were innocent beings who did nothing wrong, which is very much not what anyone is claiming here
while we're on the topic of "islamic colonisation" they will also refer to the demolishing of muslim sites of heritage and worship and then building hindu temples over them as "decolonisation" (cough cough ram mandir) the hindu right also goes around pretending that they're the indigenous people of india
along a similar vein, they will dismiss islamophobia by bringing up instances of hindu oppression in countries like pakistan and bangladesh. it is true that hindus are persecuted in these two countries, however they are used to fuel their oppression complex, that their upper caste hindu self is under attack in india of all places (think a white christian in the united states). you should be in solidarity with minorities everywhere. it is neither transactional or conditional (note: they will never bring up sri lanka. persecution of hindus exists only when the oppressors are muslim)
claiming that hindu nationalism and hindutva are not the same because hindutva means "hindu-ness". that is only the literal translation of the term. like it or not, they're the same thing
they support the indian military occupation of kashmir. they will call it an integral part of kashmir, one reason which will be "hinduism is indigenous to kashmir." they will also bring up the last maharaja of kashmir signing the instrument of accession as further proof, as if the consent of the people was taken
they're zionists. do i even need to explain this. hindutva is just zionism for hindus
they refer to buddhism and jainism (sikhism too sometimes) as branches of hinduism rather than separate, distinct religions
they condemn any resistance to the indian govt as a burden or terrorism (like calling the farmers who are currently protesting a hindrance or terrorists. funny how sikhs are the same as hindus when they support hindu causes but terrorists when they resist oppression...)
they call you a pseudo liberal or a fake leftist. i'm telling you, they don't know jackshit. they can't even tell the difference between a liberal and a leftist and call US unread lmao. bonus points if they call you a liberandu or a sickular 💀
they call india "bharat" when they talk in english. there are in fact multiple indian languages that call india bharat or bharatam, but if they say bharat while talking in english, that is absolutely a hindu nationalist no questions asked
please do your due diligence. read up on hindutva. hindu nationalists have already started making gains in the united states, thanks to rich upper caste nris. do not fall for propaganda

From Ukraine - Russia, where thousands died due to their egoistic leaders; to the BRUTAL atrocities of RSF happening in Sudan; to the extreme child labour and mass r*ape being done and yet no coverage of it in Congo; to the ongoing genocide once again in Palestine where 8000 KIDS are already killed, prisoners are being sodomised with a hot metal rod, babies starved to death and jews being forcefully conscripted in IDF, 335 bullets found in a 6 year old Hind Rajab's body (alot more heinous things have been done)...; to the anti-immigrants and anti-muslim riots by far right in the United Kingdom....
To the massacre of Hindus in Bangladesh, with excuse of political turmoil. Temples destroyed, individuals attacked and killed, shops and houses vandalised etc etc.
WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THIS WORLD?
I read once in an article many years ago that one day, terrorism will rule the world. And this is what we see happening around us now.
People have really lost it. One simple rule - to live and let others live. We, as humans, are supposed to celebrate and accept diversity... not to see it as a burden and commit atrocities...
Sorry, but I felt an urge to rant out whatever I'm feeling...
Edit - What offends me the most is when people start doing whataboutsim... Please, a crime is a crime...Justifying it is ALSO a crime. Will it be justifiable if (God forbid) someone harms ur family member just because of their identity and that your community members did this too in ___ ___ day/year etc etc? Punishing someone innocent for someone else's crime is the shittiest nonsensical argument I've ever seen. An eye for an eye will turn the whole world blind. Periodt.

This is my purely fandom based account. I post all my serious posts on my other blog. However, this is also the account with the highest reach. I have done my best to help out others, including donating to GFMs from Palestinians. This is my turn to ask for help.
I am a Bangladeshi Hindu. Our lives are serious risk right now. My friends and family members had to leave their own homes for safety. I am posting screenshots and links to the attacks we faced in the last few days. Any protests on social media are faced with more attacks for being a 'Awami league' (the previous government) or 'RAW agent' (Indian intelligence agency). I supported the student protests and did my best to support them, then why are my family, friends, and faith at risk? Is this what I deserve? I absolutely condemn the corruption and terror by the last Awami League Government, but why is that our fault? My family never even dared to vote in any national elections. There's no police available as they are afraid. The army is of very limited help. There are photos on Facebook of students and local people trying to guard the temples but that is nowhere enough.

Hindus in Bangladesh
The silence or the limited coverage in the international media about the on-going genocide of hindus in Bangladesh really speaks volumes. Hindus in Bangladesh have faced violence, discrimination, and persecution, including attacks on temples, homes, and individuals since past many years. These incidents are not isolated incidents, but a fully fledged pattern of religious intolerance. The international silence is not really an issue of under-reporting but a matter of personal opinions and priorities.
-peace out

really ironic that whenever the demolition of babri masjid or any masjid for that matter will be brought up, no one cares to mention that most of them were built on the ruins of hindu temples. moreover, to date, hindus in kashmir, pakistan and bangladesh face demolition of their temples and targeted attacks. hardly seen anyone speak up for them. hypocrisy at its finest.
Well said! They have selective amnesia when it comes to our destroyed temples, it seems.

An old image of a monk serving food to Muslims has resurfaced in social media posts that falsely claimed it shows a Hindu priest who was killed by Islamists during the recent unrest in Bangladesh. AFP previously debunked false claims with the same image and identified the monk, while his religious organisation confirmed the photo was taken in India.
"Swami Nitai Das Ji Swami of ISKCON temple in Bangladesh... he organised Iftar for Muslims in the temple for 30 days. The same Muslims burned the temple down and killed the swami," read the Hindi-language claim shared on Facebook on August 7.
Iftar is a meal taken by Muslims to break their fast during the holy month of Ramadan.
The photo shows a monk serving food to a number of men wearing traditional Muslim dress.
Tumblr media
There have been multiple reports of violence against religious minorities in Bangladesh since prime minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted on August 5 following protests led by university students.
More than 450 people were killed during the protests that ultimately led Hasina to flee the country, AFP reported (archived link).
Rights groups and diplomats in Bangladesh have since raised concerns over reports of attacks on minorities. The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council said at least 10 Hindu temples have been attacked by "miscreants", AFP reported.
The image of the monk was shared with similar claims elsewhere on Facebook here and on social media platform X here.
But the photo, circulating online since 2016, does not show a Hindu priest killed in Bangladesh.
Photo from India
AFP previously debunked the photo in 2021 when it circulated online with a similar claim, after deadly violence in Bangladesh over the desecration of the Quran during a Hindu religious festival.
Combined reverse image and keyword searches on Google found the photo published in an article by UCA News on July 4, 2016 (archived link).
The headline reads: "Hindu group hosts fast breaking event for Muslims."
The caption with the photo mentions the event was held at an International Society for Krishna Consciousness temple in Mayapur, a neighbourhood in Nadia district of eastern West Bengal state (archived link).
Below is a screenshot comparison of the image in the false post (left) and the picture shared in the 2016 article (right):
Tumblr media
Yudhistir Govinda Das, ISKCON's communications director in India, told AFP in November 2021 that the photo was taken in West Bengal.
Das identified the monk pictured as Ivan Antić, also known as Chaitanya Nitai Das, an ISKCON devotee from Croatia.
AFP in 2021 also contacted Antić, who confirmed he was the monk in the photo.

you are awfully quite about the genocide of minorities in bangladesh, your activism is very performative it seems.
yo hi sorry , exams. yeah. the genocide of minorities, well , here is the thing, I did post honey and no, indian media is making up most of it.
i live in Bangladesh, somewhere in the capital.
the whole "genocide of minorities" is kinda none existing. They were ATTCAKED AND TRIED TO KILL. NOT MURDERED RECKLESSLY IN GROUPS. / large number.
Tumblr media
we, the muslims PROTECTED the Temples/ mandirs( I have given the link somewhere). the one thing that was brutally being attacked was the sacred places, the people not so much. things are calm right now.
you're right, should've debunked this earlier.
it was again the work of sheikh hasina's leftover party members to cause distress in bd (which they are still doing right now , inside every group they possibly can )
NO CIVILIAN , MILITERY OR STUDENTS ARE ATYTACKING THE MINORITIES.
even we were attacked by these politicians' workers. (they tried to rob our stuff at night , open fired to cause recuses during literally in the middle of the night)
honey I live here, Ik what I'm going through. I did post some links before logging out to address the matter. maybe should've said more but didn't have the time.
things getting a little normal and our college was opened immediately (military managed college) after hasina's flee.
the bigger issue right now, is.
indian media is portraying bd as shit since hasina's flee. why? political reasons, financial reasons.
so there were deeps fakes of attacks ( I need to look for them asap I find I'll link) that you said were genocide which it is not. they faked the dates and stuff. please don't believe everything some other country says about some other country specially india because (idk will you get angry if I said this?) india was reliant on sheikh hasina for various reasons. no wonder they have kept her hidden when
SHE IS CHARGED WITH GENOCIDE.
I hope every minority is now ok but with the flood, are they?
the flood. I DO NOT SEE Anything BIGGER THAN THE FLOOD. did india say it was due to pressure? yes do we believe? na ah! sorry to say it's unbelievable. they have done this a numerous times before, opening the dams anytime they want without any warnings.
so sorry i DIDN'T DEBUNK EARLIER (which I kinda meant to actually, sorry you didn't catch it
)
but yes, I'm not an activist, but I'm pretty confident and vocal about where and with whom I stand. thank you

The videos are shocking: buildings burning, horrifying violence and women weeping as they plead for help. They are - the people sharing them say - proof of a “Hindu genocide” happening in Bangladesh in the wake of the sudden fall of the country’s long-time leader, Sheikh Hasina. Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, who uses the name Tommy Robinson – a British far-right activist who has been criticised for making inflammatory posts during the UK riots – has got involved, sharing videos along with dark warnings. But we found that many of the videos and claims shared online are false. False claim of Hindu temple attack Bangladesh has been in the headlines for weeks: student-led protests which left more than 400 dead culminated with the government falling and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fleeing to India on 5 August. Celebrations escalated into violent unrest, with rioters targeting members of her ruling Awami League party which is made up of both Hindu and Muslim members. And while reports on the ground have found violence and looting impacted Hindu people and properties, far-right influencers in neighbouring India shared false videos and information that gave a misleading view of the events. They claimed to show communal violence against Hindus purportedly carried out by “Islamist radicals” with a violent agenda. One viral post claimed to show a temple set on fire by “Islamists in Bangladesh”. However, BBC Verify has determined that this building, identified as the Navagraha Temple in Chittagong, was undamaged by the incident which actually occurred at a nearby Awami League party office.

Vandalism, Attacks Follow Bangladesh Prime Minister’s Exit
Interim Government Should Protect Minorities, Uphold Human Rights
Tumblr media
Bangladesh’s interim government, led by the Nobel Peace Prize laureate Muhammad Yunus, should urgently act to protect human rights.
Soon after Sheikh Hasina resigned as prime minister and left the country, tens of thousands of Bangladeshis celebrated the end of her repressive rule. In some places, however, celebrations turned violent, with hundreds killed or injured as demonstrators sought reprisals against those perceived to have supported Hasina’s government.
Rioters burned down historical structures and targeted members of Hasina’s Awami League party. In several districts around the country, members of the Hindu community, which is generally considered to have largely backed the Awami League, were violently attacked, their homes torched, temples vandalized, and shops looted. There were also reports of attacks against the Ahmadiyya Muslim community and ethnic minorities.
A Hindu businessman in the city of Tangail told Human Rights Watch that “while the crowd was celebrating Hasina’s fall, some crowd members suddenly started attacking the businesses nearby, including my shop.” An Awami League politician in Jessore said that “soon after the news spread in my neighborhood that Sheikh Hasina had fled the country, our businesses and houses were targeted by rioters. They were venting their anger by chanting against Sheikh Hasina and Awami League leaders.”
In many places, Muslim clerics, students, and community leaders came out to protect Hindu temples and Christian churches, while political leaders, as well as student protest organizers, called for calm.

Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh Not Communal, Issue 'Exaggerated': Yunus
During student-led violence after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's ouster, the minority Hindu population faced vandalism of businesses, property damage, and temple destruction.
Tumblr media
Dhaka: Chief Adviser to Bangladesh's interim government, Muhammad Yunus, has said the issue of attacks on minority Hindus in his country is “exaggerated” and questioned the manner in which India projected it. In an interview with PTI at his official residence here, Yunus said the attacks on minorities in Bangladesh are more political than communal.
He suggested that the attacks were not communal, but a fallout of a political upheaval as there is a perception that most Hindus supported the now-deposed Awami League regime.
“I have said this to (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi also that this is exaggerated. This issue has several dimensions. When the country went through an upheaval following the atrocities by (Sheikh) Hasina and the Awami League, those who were with them also faced attacks,” the Nobel laureate told PTI.
The minority Hindu population faced vandalism of their businesses and properties, as well as the destruction of Hindu temples, during the student-led violence that erupted following the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
After unprecedented anti-government protests that peaked on August 5, Hasina resigned as prime minister and fled to India.
“Now, while beating up Awami League cadres, they had beaten up Hindus as there is a perception that Hindus in Bangladesh mean Awami League supporters. I am not saying that what has happened is right, but some people are using it as an excuse to seize property. So, there is no clear distinction between Awami League supporters and Hindus,” he said.
In his first direct contact with New Delhi last month, shortly after becoming the head of Bangladesh's interim government, Yunus conveyed to Prime Minister Modi that Dhaka would prioritise the protection and safety of Hindus and all other minority groups.
During the conversation, Modi reaffirmed India's support for a democratic, stable, peaceful, and progressive Bangladesh and emphasised the importance of ensuring the safety of Hindus and other minority communities in the violence-hit country.
Hindus, who made up 22 per cent of Bangladesh's population at the time of the 1971 Liberation War, now constitute about 8 per cent of 170 million and have predominantly supported the Awami League, known for its secular stance.
Describing the attacks as more political than communal, Yunus questioned the manner in which India is “propagating” them.
“These attacks are political in nature and not communal. And India is propagating these incidents in a big way. We have not said that we can’t do anything; we have said that we are doing everything,” the Chief Adviser said.
Prime Minister Modi, in his Independence Day address from the Red Fort on August 15, expressed hope that the situation in violence-hit Bangladesh would return to normal soon and said 1.4 billion Indians are concerned about the safety of Hindus and minorities in the neighbouring country.
Discussing the future of India-Bangladesh relations, Yunus expressed a desire for good ties with India but insisted that New Delhi must abandon the narrative that Bangladesh will turn into another Afghanistan without Sheikh Hasina at the helm.
“The way forward is for India to come out of the narrative. The narrative is that everybody is Islamist, BNP is Islamist, and everyone else is Islamist and will make this country into Afghanistan. And Bangladesh is in safe hands with Sheikh Hasina at the helm only.
“India is captivated by this narrative. India needs to come out of this narrative. Bangladesh, like any other nation, is just another neighbour,” he said.
The noted economist added, “The issue of trying to portray the conditions of minorities in such a big way is just an excuse.” Yunus said that when he met leaders of the minority community, he urged them to protest as citizens of the country with equal rights and not merely as Hindus.
“Even when I met members of the Hindu community, I had requested them: please don’t identify yourselves as Hindus; rather, you should say you are citizens of this country and you have equal rights. If someone tries to snatch your legal rights as citizens, then there are remedies,” he said.
The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council (BHBCUC), a prominent Hindu minority group in Bangladesh, had also reported attacks on minorities, especially Hindus, following the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government on August 5.
Thousands of Hindus staged protest rallies in Bangladesh's capital and the northeastern port city of Chattogram on August 10-11, demanding protection amid nationwide vandalism that saw attacks on temples and their homes and businesses.
Earlier in August, the Bangladesh National Hindu Grand Alliance said that the minority Hindu community faced attacks and threats in 278 locations across 48 districts since the fall of the Hasina-led government and termed it as an “assault on the Hindu religion."
