Massive Fraud In Bihar Teacher Recruitment: 24,000 Candidates At Risk Of Losing Job
Bihar Teacher Recruitment Scandal: As per the latest scandal, around 24,000 teachers are the risk of losing their jobs due to fake certificates and degrees.
The Bihar teachers' recruitment scheme has been controversial since the first results were declared. The government kept shifting its goalposts and criteria as candidates challenged the results before the court. There were allegations of recruitment in return for cash and claims that meritorious students were ignored to accommodate candidates for whom canvassing was done. Now, the allegations appear to be true as the latest expose has rang alarm bells through the Nitish Kumar-led administration, said multiple reports.
As per the latest scandal, around 24,000 teachers are the risk of losing their jobs due to fake certificates and degrees. It came to light after the recent counselling sessions held for 1.87 lakh candidates who cleared the recruitment test. During the screening, significant discrepancies emerged risking the candidature while raising questions about the candidates' teaching credentials, according to reports.
From December 1 to 13 of last year, counselling sessions were held for a significant number of teachers. However, approximately 42,000 teachers did not receive counselling, with over 3,000 of them absent from the sessions. It is important to note that biometric verification was not completed for more than 10,000 of these teachers. The education department has assured that those who missed this opportunity will have another chance after the Chhath festival this year.
During the screening, it came to light that many candidates submitted fake mark sheets. This is in addition to around 4,000 candidates caught earlier with falsified credentials. Alarmingly, approximately 80% of these individuals scored below the necessary 60% threshold on their mark sheets, and 20% were discovered to have falsified several certificates, including those pertaining to disability, caste, residency, and sports.
Now, the government is mulling not only job termination but also recovery of salaries paid to the allegedly fraud teachers. The issues has raised serious question on the selection process.

Yamuna’s Perennial Toxic Saga: A Critical Issue For Delhi
Yamuna's plight raises questions about accountability and the effectiveness of governmental commitments to environmental supervision
As the festive season approaches, the Yamuna river remains a focal point in the national capital, marred by extreme pollution despite repeated electoral promises. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, has continually vowed to clean this river. Yet, just weeks before the annual Chhath Puja, toxic foam covers its surface, highlighting the grim reality of the situation.
Notably, soon after coming to power in 2015, Kejriwal had promised to clean the river and said, “We will revive Yamuna within five years.”
Then again in 2021, Kejriwal reiterated the promise to rejuvenate the Yamuna and said that he will take a dip in the river in February 2025. Then in 2020, Delhi’s then water minister Satyendra Jain claimed that the Delhi government was committed to revive the river within next three-four years. In November 2021, Kejriwal announced a six-point action plan to change the face of Yamuna. Even AAP’s Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Swati Maliwal attacked the Delhi government and accused them of “making false promises of cleaning the river”.
Earlier this year, the Delhi government’s pollution control body planned to penalise chief engineers of sewage treatment plants that do not treat wastewater to prescribed standards, a major cause of pollution in the Yamuna. The national capital missed the December 2023 deadline to treat all sewage generated to the prescribed standards. The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) received a six-month extension but failed to meet the goal, according to monthly progress reports on Yamuna’s rejuvenation sent to the Jal Shakti ministry.
Meanwhile, Bhartiya Janata Party Delhi unit president Virendra Sachdeva took a dip in the Yamuna river earlier this week in Delhi to highlight the pollution. The Delhi BJP chief had invited people to Chhath Ghat to show the plight of Yamuna.
Sachdeva said that he took a dip to “atone for the sins of Kejriwal”. He further said: “The central government gave Rs 8,500 crore to the Delhi government in seven years for cleaning the Yamuna, but the money was embezzled by the AAP government. The BJP leader later reported breathing issues and skin irritation days after he took a dip in the heavily polluted toxic water of the Yamuna River. After experiencing health issues, the Delhi BJP chief slammed Kejriwal over his ‘failure’ to fulfill his promise of cleaning Yamuna by 2025.”
The spike in pollution levels in the Yamuna has mirrored the various political promises made over the years.
According to water quality data from 2021, the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) level of the Yamuna rose dramatically from 11.0 mg at Pala (where it enters Delhi) to a whopping 127.0 mg at Asgarpur (where it exits). Recent data from 2024 suggests a similar trend, with BOD levels starting at 2.5 mg and spiking to an alarming 80.0 mg at Asgarpur.
Yamuna’s plight continues to be a critical issue in Delhi, raising pressing questions about accountability and the effectiveness of governmental commitments to environmental supervision.

India Today impact: Sting op on fake ghee leads to raids in UP's Hathras
An India Today TV report revealed disturbing details about ghee sold in local markets in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras. The sting operation on adulteration in ghee led to the officials taking note of the issue, with raids being conducted on Friday.
Raids were conducted on godowns of ghee in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras on Friday after an India Today sting exposed adulteration in ghee being manufactured in the area. The Hathras administration also ordered the formation of a four-member committee to look into the matter.
Speaking about the raids, Superintendent of Police Nipun Agarwal said the police are conducting raids and efforts are underway to arrest the accused. "We will take the sample (of ghee) for testing. We will hold a meeting with the District Magistrate to undertake further action," Agarwal said.
India Today's Special Investigation Team (SIT) travelled to Hathras, a major hub for ghee manufacturing, and uncovered some disturbing truths about the ghee being sold in the market.
Our team posed as retail shopkeepers from Delhi looking to buy ghee in bulk ahead of the festival season. What followed was a disclosure into how ghee is adulterated, packaged in branded containers, and sold to unsuspecting customers across the country.
Our team found that fake ghee was being sold in duplicate cartons of well-known brands. The local suppliers of this fake ghee revealed that what they were selling was a combination of hydrogenated vegetable oil, refined oil, and some added fragrance to mimic the aroma of pure desi ghee.
The health risks posed by the regular consumption of hydrogenated oils and refined oils are well-documented, ranging from digestive issues to long-term cardiovascular problems.
The India Today SIT found fake or adulterated ghee was available for anywhere between Rs 240 and Rs 260 per kg in Hathras, whereas genuine desi ghee typically costs upwards of Rs 500 to Rs 700 per kg. This wide profit margin is what drives suppliers to continue this deceitful practice.

Bombay HC Grants Bail And Suspends Life Sentence For Gangster Chhota Rajan In Jaya Shetty Murder Case
Jaya Shetty, the owner of the Golden Crown hotel located in Gamdevi, central Mumbai, was shot dead on May 4, 2001
The Bombay High Court has suspended the life sentence of gangster Chhota Rajan, who was convicted in connection with the murder of hotelier Jaya Shetty in Mumbai in 2001. A division bench, comprising Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Prithviraj Chavan, granted bail to Rajan, contingent upon him furnishing a bond of ₹1 lakh. However, he will remain in jail due to other pending cases.
Background on the Case
In May, a special court sentenced Chhota Rajan to life imprisonment for the murder of Jaya Shetty. Following this conviction, Rajan appealed to the Bombay High Court, requesting that his sentence be suspended while he sought bail.
Who Was Jaya Shetty?
Jaya Shetty, the owner of the Golden Crown hotel whici is located in Gamdevi, was shot dead on May 4, 2001. The attack was carried out by two alleged members of Chhota Rajan’s gang on the first floor of the hotel. Investigations revealed that Shetty had received extortion calls from Hemant Pujari, a gang member, and was killed after failing to pay the demanded sum.
Currently, Rajan is serving a life sentence for the murder of veteran crime reporter J Dey and is incarcerated at Tihar Jail in Delhi.
Acquittal in the Murder of Dr. Datta Samant
In a separate legal development, a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court acquitted Chhota Rajan of involvement in the high-profile murder of Dr. Datta Samant, a prominent Mumbai trade union leader, who was killed in 1997. The court found no substantial evidence to support the charges against him, stating, “In this case, no incriminating evidence has come on record against the accused in respect of conspiracy to commit the murder of Dr. Datta Samant.”
Dr. Samant was shot by four individuals while traveling in his jeep on Padmavati Road on January 16, 1997. Although three men were convicted for the murder in 2000, Rajan remained a wanted suspect. He was arrested in 2015 in Indonesia and subsequently extradited to Mumbai, where all pending cases against him were handed over to the CBI.

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has granted bail to an accused on a unique condition. This condition is to say 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' 21 times. Actually, this person has been granted bail on the charge of raising anti-India slogans, but a unique condition has also been attached to it. Faizal alias Faizan was released on Tuesday on the condition that he will salute the national flag 21 times twice every month and chant "Bharat Mata Ki Jai". This order has been given as a bail condition so that the accused can awaken the feeling of patriotism and responsibility.

has been put by Justice Dinesh Kumar Paliwal. He said that this condition of saluting the flag at Bhopal's Misrod Police Station will continue till the trial is over. The court order states, "He will mark his presence at Misrod Police Station on the first and fourth Tuesday of every month between 10 am and 12 noon and salute the flag 21 times, as well as chant 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai'."
Justice Paliwal believes that this unique bail condition may perhaps save the accused from future legal complications. Along with this, Faizal was also directed to deposit a bond of ₹ 50,000, and warned that the bail order will automatically expire if the conditions are violated.
The slogan that landed Faizan in trouble
The case is related to an incident in which Faizal was accused of raising slogans of "Pakistan Zindabad, Hindustan Murdabad". Following which a case was registered under Section 153A of the Indian Penal Code. The state lawyer, while opposing the bail plea, also said that Faizal is a habitual offender and 14 other cases are also registered against him.
Faizal argued that the incident had been exaggerated, but he also admitted that the man seen raising slogans in the video was Faizal.
While Faizal's lawyer argued that he had been falsely implicated, the court, without commenting on the merits of the case, granted bail considering Faizal's criminal history and previous charges, but attached a condition of patriotism to it.

Chandigarh News: Administration will send notice to those who do not install solar plants on their houses in Chandigarh!

Deputy Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh said that buildings of property of 500 yards or more in the city. Concession will be given to those people who have already applied. Those who have not applied will not be given any additional time. Now notices will be issued to such persons by the estate office. On the orders of the Deputy Commissioner, the Estate Department has also started preparations for issuing notices to the people.
It is noteworthy that in the year 2016, the UT administration had banned all those having plots of 500 square yards or more in the city. Residential houses were made mandatory to install solar power systems to comply with building bylaws. Now it has been made mandatory for owners of plots of 250 square yards to install solar power plants in the city. Rajeev Verma, advisor to the UT Administrator, recently informed the Secretary of the Urban Planning Department about the building. Instructions were given to amend the bye-laws, after which the size of residential buildings will be reduced from 500 square yards. It was reduced to 250 square yards, but in the initial period, the UT administration allowed homeowners with 500 square yards. Strict action is being taken.

IAS Officer Tina Dabi Raids Rajasthan Spa Centre On Sex Racket Suspicion
Tina Dabi raided a spa centre today which was reportedly a front for an alleged sex racket.
Barmer: Tina Dabi, one of India's most popular civil services officers, was posted as the district collector of Rajasthan's Barmer last month. Since her new appointment, she has been in action mode - she is sometimes seen sweeping roads as part of a cleanliness campaign initiated by her and sometimes reprimanding doctors who were found to be negligent during hospital inspections. All these actions happened on camera and the videos garnered a lot of traction on social media.
This morning, Ms Dabi raided a spa centre, which was reportedly a front for an alleged sex racket.
What Led To The Raid
A cleaning campaign was underway near the Sadar police station area when all of a sudden Tina Dabi arrived for a surprise inspection. During the inspection, she noticed a spa centre whose doors were locked from inside. She asked the officials to open these doors. But even after knocking several times, no one opened the door.
Suspicious by then, some policemen entered the spa centre through the roof while others broke the door and entered inside. There were many rooms inside the spa centre, in which five girls and two men were found in objectionable conditions, police said. Sadar police station took all of them into custody on suspicion of prostitution and all of them are being questioned.
The raid was captured on camera and videos showed several women, trying to cover their faces, and men inside the alleged spa facility.
'Unethical Practices' In Spa Centres?
There are several spa centres in Barmer city and locals have been complaining to the administration about many of these, alleging the centres are involved in unethical practices. But, today's raid is the first effective action by the police.
As per people in the know of the matter, the people who run these centres get a license issued from the Labor Department. After this, they bring girls from West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Nepal and run a prostitution business under the guise of spa centres. The police have taken action against these illegal spa centres several times but due to lack of sustained action, these people get back to these practices again after being released on bail.
Tina Dabi, whose wedding to fellow IAS officer Pradeep Gawande made headlines in 2023, has started an innovative initiative - "Navo Barmer"- meaning new Barmer. Under the initiative, cleanliness campaigns are being run in the city using new-age technology.
