Delhi Man Takes Wife To Maha Kumbh, Slits Her Throat At Hotel To Hide Affair

Investigations revealed that the woman had travelled from New Delhi to Prayagraj with her husband on the night of February 18.

New Delhi: A couple from Delhi's Trilokpuri arrived in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj to witness the Mahakumbh festival. The husband, dutifully recording videos and snapping photos of their time together, sent them home to their children, painting a picture of a happy trip. They checked into a modest homestay to spend the night but by morning, the wife's blood-soaked body lay sprawled across the room.

It took the Prayagraj Commissionerate Police 48 hours to crack the case and arrest the husband for the brutal killing of his wife in the Jhunsi area of the city on the night of February 18.

What Happened 

On the morning of February 19, the Prayagraj police received information about the discovery of the blood-soaked body of a 40-year-old woman in the bathroom of a homestay in Azad Nagar Colony, under the jurisdiction of the Jhunsi police station. The property was being used as a guesthouse for pilgrims attending the Mahakumbh festival. Upon reaching the crime scene, police found that the woman's throat had been slit with a sharp weapon.

Initial investigations revealed that the woman had arrived at the homestay the previous night with a man, identifying themselves as husband and wife. The manager of the homestay allotted them a room without verifying their identity or collecting any proof of identification. The following morning, the manager discovered the horrific scene in the bathroom and immediately informed the police.

How The Crime Was Solved

Investigations revealed that the woman had travelled from New Delhi to Prayagraj with her husband on the night of February 18. The woman's photograph was widely circulated on social media platforms and published in newspapers. On February 21, this strategy bore fruit when the woman's relatives came forward to identify her.

The victim was identified as Meenakshi, wife of Ashok Kumar, a resident of Trilokpuri in the national capital. Her brother, Pravesh Kumar, along with her two sons, Ashwani and Adarsh, travelled to Prayagraj upon seeing the published photographs. At the Jhunsi police station, they confirmed her identity.

The police registered a case against Ashok Kumar before tracking him down and arresting him. 

An Extra-Marital Affair 

During interrogation, Ashok Kumar confessed to the crime. He revealed that he had been plotting his wife's murder for three months. A sanitation worker residing in East Delhi's Trilokpuri, Ashok was reportedly involved in an extramarital affair. To eliminate his wife and pursue his illicit relationship, he devised an elaborate ruse.

On February 17, Ashok left Delhi with Meenakshi under the pretence of undertaking a Mahakumbh pilgrimage. The next day, the couple reached Jhunsi and booked a room in a homestay. As night fell, an argument erupted between the two. When Meenakshi went into the bathroom, Ashok seized the moment, attacking her from behind and slitting her throat with a knife. He then changed out of his blood-stained clothes, wrapped the murder weapon in them, and discreetly disposed of the evidence.

To create an alibi, Ashok later called his son Ashish and falsely claimed that Meenakshi had gone missing in the crowded fair. Feigning concern, he told his children that he had searched for her but was unable to find her.

The Truth Unravels

Suspicious of his father's explanation, Meenakshi's son Ashwin took matters into his own hands. On February 20, the family arrived at the Mahakumbh with their mother's photograph and began searching for her while the police continued to gather evidence, examining CCTV footage from the area where the body was found. 

On February 18, just a day before the murder, Ashok uploaded a video of himself and Meenakshi on social media, showing them taking a sacred dip. 

Surveillance footage and forensic reports, combined with Ashok's conflicting statements, led to his arrest.

Surrender looted weapons: Manipur Governor's 7-day ultimatum amid unrest

Amid the ongoing President's Rule in Manipur, Governor Ajay Bhalla has asked all communities to surrender looted and illegal weapons within seven days, assuring no punitive action.

Manipur Governor Ajay Bhalla on Thursday asked people from all communities to surrender looted and illegally held weapons within seven days and assured that no punitive action would be taken against those who comply with the ultimatum.

"In the greater interest of restoring normalcy, so that people can return to their normal day-to-day activities, all communities in the state must come forward to ensure cessation of hostilities and maintenance of peace and order in society," the Governor said in an official statement.

Bhalla also that for more than 20 months, the people of Manipur — both in the valley and the hills — have faced significant hardships due to a series of distressing events that have disrupted communal harmony.

"It is in this regard that I sincerely request people of all communities, particularly the youths in the Valley and Hills, to voluntarily come forward and surrender the looted and illegally held weapons and ammunition to the nearest police station, outpost, security forces camp within the next seven days, with effect from today. Your single act of returning these weapons can be a powerful gesture towards ensuring peace. I want to assure you that no punitive action would be initiated if such weapons are returned within the stipulated time. Thereafter, strict action will be taken for possession of such weapons," the statement added.

President's rule was imposed in Manipur last week and the state assembly was put under suspended animation, days after Chief Minister N Biren Singh resigned from his post.

Biren Singh resigned from Chief Minister's post almost two years after the ethnic violence started in the northeastern state.

The violence in Manipur began in May 2023 and saw brutal clashes between the majority Meitei community in the Imphal Valley and the Kuki-Zo tribal groups in the surrounding hills, resulting in over 250 deaths besides displacing thousands of people.

High Court on Divorce: Calling divorced women 'divorcee' will now be costly! Know why this strict action was taken!

Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Divorce:  In a historic decision, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court has banned the practice of addressing divorced women as 'divorcee'. The court termed it a 'bad practice' and said that identifying a woman as 'divorcee' just on the basis of being divorced is painful and unfair. This decision has been given on a petition filed three years ago, in which the court expressed serious concern over the use of discriminatory language against women in the society.

What did the court say?

Jammu and Kashmir High Court judge Vinod Chatterjee Kohl said that it is a wrong and painful practice to identify a woman as 'divorcee' just because she is divorced. He said, "If 'divorcee' can be written for women, then 'divorcer' should also be written for men, which is not acceptable in society."

The court also said that divorced women should be identified by their name and not on the basis of their marital status. While issuing the order, the court said that if a woman is referred to as 'divorcee' in any petition or appeal, then that petition will be dismissed.

Highlights of the judgement

Now any divorced woman will be identified only by her name in the court documents.

If a woman is referred to as 'divorcee' in any petition or appeal, the petition will be dismissed.

The court has directed all lower courts to follow this decision.

A fine of Rs 20,000 has also been imposed on the petitioner.

Supreme Court's earlier direction

This is not the first time a court has raised concerns over the use of discriminatory language against women. In August 2023, the then Chief Justice DY Chandrachud issued a 'handbook' on behalf of the Supreme Court, which asked to avoid the titles used for women in various cases. The handbook said that 'the offender, whether man or woman, is only a human being, so we cannot use words like adulterer, prostitute, loose character, cheater, vagabond for women.'

FIR Filed Against Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina For Promoting ‘Obscenity’ On India’s Got Latent

The police have named Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija in the FIR.

Guwahati Police have registered an FIR against Samay Raina and all the judges on his show India’s Got Latent under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The FIR names Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina, and others, accusing them of promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit discussions.

“Today Guwahati Police has registered an FIR against against certain Youtubers and social Influencers, namely Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina and others for promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit and vulgar discussion in a show titled India’s Got Latent," wrote CM Sarma.

He added, “Guwahati Crime Branch has registered a case vide Cyber PS case no 03/2025 under sections – 79/95/294/296 of BNS 2023 read with Sec 67 of IT Act, 2000, read with Section 4/7 of Cinematograph Act 1952 read with Section 4/6 of ⁠Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986."

Biswa further said that an investigation into the matter is underway.

Delhi Election Results Tomorrow: AAP, BJP In Intense Battle For Glory

Several exit polls have given the BJP an edge over the AAP, which has been ruling in Delhi since 2015.

New Delhi:

Counting of votes for the Delhi assembly polls will take place on Saturday to decide whether the AAP comes to power for a fourth term or the BJP forms a government in the national capital after 27 years.

The Congress is also looking for some gains after drawing a blank in the last two elections.

Several exit polls have given the BJP an edge over the AAP, which has been ruling in Delhi since 2015.

The counting process will begin at 8 am with early trends likely to start coming in from initial hours. According to the Election Commission, 60.54 per cent votes were polled on Wednesday.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva has claimed his party will win nearly 50 seats. The AAP has rejected the exit poll predictions, asserting it will form the government again with its convener Arvind Kejriwal becoming chief minister for the fourth time.

Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Alice Vaz said that a total of 5,000 personnel, including counting supervisors, counting assistants, micro-observers, and supporting staff trained for the process, will be deployed on Saturday for the counting of votes.

In view of the fairness of the counting process, a random selection of five VVPATs (voter verifiable paper audit trails) will be done in each assembly constituency.

In a snowballing controversy, Lt Governor VK Saxena on Friday ordered an anti corruption branch (ACB) probe into allegations by AAP leaders that the BJP had attempted to poach its candidates by offering them Rs 15 crore and ministerial berth.

The AAP leaders have accused the BJP of trying to create an illusion in their favour based on exit poll predictions, but trying to poach AAP's candidates with chances of victory.

The BJP has demanded that AAP retract its charges and tender an apology or face legal action.

Delhi BJP general secretary Vishnu Mittal also wrote to the Lt Governor requesting for an ACB probe into AAP's charges. Soon after the LG's order, an ACB team visited Kejriwal in connection with the matter.

Earlier on Friday, Kejriwal held a meeting with all party candidates and asserted that the AAP will form its government, while alleging that the opposition is using exit polls to create "psychological pressure" and attempting to execute "Operation Lotus".

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, senior AAP leader Gopal Rai said that under Kejriwal's guidance, all candidates presented their ground reports, which indicated that AAP is set to win over 50 seats decisively, with a close contest on 7-8 seats.

The AAP established its dominance in Delhi's political map routing both the BJP and Congress in 2015 Assembly polls, winning 67 of the 70 Assembly seats.

The party again formed its government in 2020, winning 62 seats and decimating the opposition BJP and Congress.

A victory for the AAP will establish Kejriwal's dominance in Delhi and enhance his political stature nationally.

However, if the BJP wins the polls, it will not only be back to power in Delhi after a long gap of 27 years, but also succeed in breaking the spell of AAP and Kejriwal that it has been vying for a decade.

The Congress, which ruled Delhi for 15 years in a row till 2013, is striving to stage a comeback after failing to win a single seat in the previous two elections.

Kerala: One killed, three sustain severe burn injuries in steamer explosion at cafe

Kerala cafe explosion: A steamer exploded at I'deli cafe, located on the ground floor of the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in Kaloor.

Kerala cafe explosion: A worker was killed and three others sustained severe burn injuries after a cooking steamer exploded at a cafe in Kochi's Kaloor on Thursday, said Fire and Rescue Services officials. According to the police, the deceased was identified as Sumith, a native of West Bengal.

The injured, Ali, Lulu, and Kiran, were taken to a private hospital, where they are currently in critical condition.

Fire and Rescue Services officials said that they were alerted at 4:23 pm about a suspected gas cylinder explosion at i'Deli Cafe, situated on the ground floor of the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in Kaloor. 

Roopesh K R, Inspector of Police, Palarivattom Police Station, said, " Around 4:30 pm, a steamer exploded at I'deli cafe in Kaloor. 5 staff were injured in the explosion and one succumbed in the hospital. Others are undergoing treatment in various hospitals...Only after the inquiry, we will be able to determine the cause of the incident".

Fire personnel quickly responded and brought the situation under control. "It was not a gas cylinder explosion but the cafe’s cooking steamer, which burst due to excessive pressure," a Fire and Rescue Services official said.

Sumith was found inside the cafe with severe head injuries and was declared dead upon reaching the hospital.

Meanwhile, several customers seated outside were able to escape without harm. The Palarivattom police, who examined the scene, stated that a case would be filed, and further investigations are ongoing.

It claimed that Dhillon played a role in pressuring Moosewala to withdraw from a music collaboration contract with him with the help of gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuri. The post claimed that Dhillon later made a song to gain sympathy after Moosewala's death.

The post also warned Dhillon that his association with Bhagwanpuria would not be tolerated, and the attack was intended as a final warning.

"If you don't change now, no one will be able to save you no matter where you run," the message read.

Prem Dhillon, known for his hit songs like 'Boot Cut', 'Old Skool', and 'Majha Block', has not yet publicly responded to the attack or the allegations made against him.

This incident is the latest in a string of violent threats and attacks targeting Punjabi artistes. In September last year, shots were fired outside singer AP Dhillon's house on Victoria Island in Vancouver, Canada. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang took responsibility for that attack, with its member Rohit Godara claiming involvement.

Amritsar- A married woman from Dharampura area of Mohkampura police station in Amritsar has accused her husband and maternal uncle of stripping her naked and beating her for not fulfilling her dowry demand. Talking to the media on this occasion, the victim Sapna said that she was married 8 months ago to Rajan son Dharampal, a resident of Dharampura area of Mohkampura. Shortly after the marriage, my husband started beating me up while demanding dowry.

The victim said that my father also explained this to my husband, but after some time, he started beating me again. He did this to me four or five times, each time my family members would explain to my husband and he would leave. The victim said that yesterday evening, my husband and maternal uncle again started beating me up over the demand for dowry and also tore my clothes and made me completely naked. When I screamed, the people of the locality gathered and they rescued me from my husband. After this, the police administration was informed about this, the police reached the spot and arrested my husband. At the same time, the victim demanded that strictest action should be taken against my husband and maternal uncle.

On this occasion, the police officer of Mohkampura police station said that we had received a complaint from a woman named Sapna, following which we have taken her husband Rajan into custody and the matter is being investigated. Appropriate action will definitely be taken against whoever is found guilty.

He also told Hindustan Times that someone might have an ulterior motive against him. He said, “My family’s image is such that everyone wants (a controversy to happen) Aditya (Narayan, son and singer) chup chaap rehta hai, controversy mein aata nahi hai. Many must feel that. There is madness when I am singing on stage, fans love me, I think let them be happy. Otherwise iss type ke log hum hain hi nahi. Humein bhi unko khush karna hota hai.”

In the video, some women came towards the stage to click some pictures with Udit when he kissed them on cheeks. However, one of the female fans turned around and kissed him on the cheek. He then returned the gesture by kissing her on her lips.
