filipinos and people speaking to/about filipinos suffer from the same illness and that is the pathological need to remind us that we have been colonized. we can not exist without being told we owe this or that to our colonizers or to some other foreign origin. solicited or unsolicited, they will do it. in an academic setting or under random throwaway comments online, they will always bring it up. we are subjected to measures of cultural, racial, and linguistic purity that does not exist anywhere and which no people on this earth could ever pass.

using spanish, english, malay, hokkien, sanskrit loanwords? that means our languages are nothing but creole to the core. cooking balbacua or caldereta? well, they’re not really “our” dishes; we just remixed them and then we eat them. practicing christianity or islam? i guess nothing about our faiths must be indigenous. we were colonized by the spanish? that makes us more latino than asian actually… or maybe we’re neither latino nor asian but a secret third thing - polynesian! et cetera, et cetera.

don’t even get these people started on popular race science (i.e. pseudoscience) about the so-called origins of filipinos. they sound like reincarnations of johann blumenbach and henry otley beyer with their nonsensical ramblings about the three waves of migration, “mongoloids,” and the “malay race.”

Dear God,

Thankful and blessed today. I woke up early because I have a lot of things to do. I scrolled my social media accounts, chatted my family and friends. We went to Jako’s school which is ICAS and dropped him. I ate satti for breakfast at Andy’s. I drank royal and I was full after. We went to ZCMC at ward 9 for my medicine refill. Thank God I was able to refill and Mama and Papa was with me. We went to Tetuan again to book for catering but the location is very difficult to find and so we cancelled it. We went to the dentist, but dentist is out so we need to come back again at 1PM. We went to curtain and blinds for the booking of the blinds. We went to KFC Nuñez for lunch and we ordered bucket meal. I was full after. We went back again at the dentist and I did cleaning and pasta on my right upper molar. After that we went to POEA for query regarding my OEC. They assisted me and we went to Mercury drug to buy my medicines. We went to Yubenco tetuan to buy shawarma and I ate with Papa. I was full after. We fetched Jako at ICAS tetuan school and Justin at their house. We arrived home safely. I was very tired and I rested for a while. Justin read a book with me. I slept for a while and woke up. I ate dinner which is rice, balbacua and fried fish. I did my chores. I made lumpiang shanghai for our baon tomorrow. I did my self and skin care routine. I drank my medicines. I will read my Bible. I will play cooking fever. Have mercy on us Oh God. Guide us always to the right path. Remove sickness, danger and negative things in our life. Answer our prayers in your perfect time. Thank you and I love you God. February 23,2024.

Dear God,

Thankful and blessed today. I woke up at 11AM plus with the help of Mama and Papa. I ate my breakfast which is Gata nangka made by Mama and rice. I prepared myself because I will go somewhere. I scrolled my social media accounts, chatted my family and friends. We went to Landbank to withdraw 500,000 pesos. We also met Auntie Eva, Mama’s previous workmate. We went to Arcada for the Pag-ibig and thank God I was able to register to MP2. I invested 500,000 to Pag-ibig. I bought Wintermelon milk tea at Share tea. I also bought for Papa and shared to Mama. I ate bread with milk tea. We went to Tetuan Central School for Justin. Mama gave the allowance, and the bag as a gift for his teacher. While waiting for Jako’s off, we called Prince lechon for booking a lechon. We also called few well known caterer here in Zamboanga City. We went to Jako’s school to fetch him. We went home and arrived safely. I rested for a while. I watched random videos. I finalized to cooked the Balbacua. We ate dinner and I ate rice, balbacua and nangka salad. I was full after. Me and Jako tried the treadmill. We had little chit chats. Our curtain in the renovated room is installed. I had my self and skin care routine. I drank my medicines. I read few pages of the Bible. I will play cooking fever. Have mercy on us Oh God. Guide us always to the right path. Remove sickness, danger and negative things in our life. Answer our prayers in your perfect time.
