There's the distant sound of a gunshot that echoes on the wind. After a few moments, there comes another, followed by the toll of a bell somewhere deep in the heart of the crumbling city. The sound is sure to draw the attention of dead roaming around for miles. Whether it's a blessing or a curse is yet to be seen. Far less unknown is the question of who did that. From the corner of a rooftop, she slowly rests her rifle across her back again and looks down at the streets below. Watching. Waiting. - For Bailey, from Delphine

She jumped at the sound of a gunshot, semi-panicked at the second, quickly gathering her belongings as if she were ready to bolt. Though in all honesty, she kinda was. Bailey stops abruptly to the sound of the bell. It was somewhere within the city, at a distance but for her it almost felt like the damned thing was right in the building with her, booming in her ears, she had to throw her hands up to cover 'em.

As soon as she recovered, she was up on her feet, opening the door to what once was a fast food restaurant to look outside, though her eyes first darted right to where the source of the sound had come from. That would attract the dead for miles... Who was stupid enough to do that? And why?

Bailey armed herself with her pistol. Should she stay put or leave? Stay and get surrounded by walkers or leave and still get surrounded by oncoming walkers?

Summary: The day your daughter was born, Daryl swore that he'd always be there for her, no matter what. That included soothing her from her night terrors whenever they kept her from sleeping.

Genre: Fluff.

Era: Commonwealth (Daryl doesn't leave.)

A/n: Back at it again with another Dad!Daryl fic, and this idea was so cute. I didn't use Hazel as a name this time because I didn't want it to become repetitive for y'all. Let me know if I should switch up the names or keep going with Hazel. Anyway, I hope you enjoy!

“Dad? Daddy?”

At the sound of the small, timid voice calling out to him, Daryl slowly opened his eyes and blinked the sleep away. He sat up slightly and looked to his side, where he saw his daughter staring at him, tears glistening in her eyes.

“Peanut? Wha's wrong? Wha' happened?” Daryl questioned, sitting up in the bed and giving his daughter his full attention.

Bailey looked at him tearfully, hugging herself with her arms. She ducked her head and looked at the ground, embarrassment flooding her body. “Nothing. I just...”

Daryl frowned and swung his legs over the edge of the bed, careful not to shake it too much and wake you up. “It ain't nothin'. Talk to me, Peanut. Wha's wrong?”

“I had a nightmare,” Bailey whispered, sniffling slightly as fresh tears started to trickle down her face.

Daryl's face softened instantly. He quietly got up from the bed and gently ushered Bailey out of the room with him, closing the door behind him before walking into her room with her.

“C'mon, lay down,” Daryl softly urged her. When Bailey obliged, Daryl grabbed the covers and tucked her in, sitting down next to her. He brought his hand up to gently brush her hair out of her face. “Talk to me. Wha' was the nightmare 'bout?”

Bailey hesitated for a moment, wiping the tears from her eyes. “It's stupid,” she mumbled, casting her gaze away from her father.

Daryl frowned and shook his head. “Ain't stupid if it makes ya upset.”

Bailey's teary eyes met his again, and she inhaled sharply before letting out a sigh. “Please don't ever leave. You or Mom. Please.”

Daryl's frown deepened. “Of course we won't leave. Where's this comin' from?”

“My dream,” Bailey started with a whisper. “You and Mom... You didn't love me anymore. Said you never wanted me in the first place. The two of you left me.”

Daryl instantly leaned forward to embrace Bailey. She wrapped her arms around him and cried into his shoulder, soaking his shirt with her tears, but he didn't mind.

“Yer mama and I ain't goin' nowhere,” Daryl reassured his daughter, placing a soft kiss against her temple. “We love ya so much. Ain't nothin' ever gon' change tha'. The day yer mama found out she was pregnant with ya was the best day of both our lives. Yer mama was so happy, and I was too. We're still very happy. Ya are the best thing tha's happened to us. Dun' ever believe otherwise, alrigh'?”

Bailey nodded against his shoulder, sniffling quietly as she pulled back. She settled back into her bed, turning over on her side, still facing Daryl. “I'm sorry I woke you.”

“Dun' need to apologise,” Daryl assured her, gently caressing her head. “Now try and get some sleep, alrigh'? Yer mama and I will be here in the mornin'.”

Bailey nodded and closed her eyes, visibly relaxing under her father's touch. It didn't take long for her to start drifting off again, her father's reassurance and comforting touch lulling her back into slumber. “I love you, Daddy,” Bailey mumbled before drifting off, her breathing evening out.

Daryl smiled and placed one final kiss against her temple. “I love ya more, Peanut.”

Quietly, Daryl slipped from Bailey's room and made his way back into his shared room with yours. Once inside with the door closed behind him, Daryl was surprised to note that you were sitting up, clearly wide awake and not just arising from your slumber.

“Wha' are ya doin' up?” Daryl asked curiously, going back over to his side of the bed and climbing back under the covers.

“I could ask you the same thing,” you countered, moving to lay down on his chest when he beckoned you closer.

“Bailey had a nightmare,” Daryl explained, running his fingers up and down along your spine. “I tucked her back into bed.”

“Oh,” you whispered, frowning slightly at the revelation that your daughter had a nightmare. “Is she okay?”

Daryl nodded. “She'll be alrigh'. Jus' scared we'll leave her. Tha' was her nightmare. I dun' know where tha' fear came from.”

“It's been a recurring nightmare for a while now,” you started. “It got better when we originally came here, but I guess it must be kicking up again.”

“She's been havin' this nightmare fer a while?” Daryl inquired with a frown. “Why dun' I know 'bout this?”

“Because she hid it from me for a while. I only know about it because it got too bad for her to handle on her own and she woke me up one night, too.”

“But why would she think we'd ever leave her?” Daryl asked.

“Because people leave all the time. She's scared that we'll see her as a nuisance, as a burden, someone who isn't worth sticking around for. She's just like you were back when we first got together,” you explained, placing a kiss on his clothed chest. “But we'll just have to show her how much we love her. That we aren't leaving her, ever. Just like I had to do with you.”

Daryl hummed. “S'true. We'll love her so much, she'll get sick of us.”

“I love you so much. Does that mean you're sick of me?” you asked playfully.

Daryl chuckled, placing a kiss against your forehead. “Sick of ya?” he began. “Never.”

A room all to herself and the freedom to leave whenever she wanted to? Sounds damn good to hear. But maybe she'll stick around a little while; it's safe here, and they must have a steady supply of food. It would be nice to not have to struggle with starvation for once.

Bailey followed him, a few feet behind a comfortable distance away from him as she was led to one of the many buildings in this safe haven. Her eyes looked over the place from top to bottom, and she waited a beat before entering with him. The first room he shows her is as good as any, there was no need to wander the building in search of another. It may be small and simple, but it was a room that she could call her own and that made all the difference.

❝ This is good enough! ❞ She beamed, rushing into the room in the same moment that she slipped the straps of her bag off either shoulder and tossed it over by the bed. ❝ It's perfect, ❞ She sat on the bed to test the mattress. Yup, way better than the floor. Lifting her feet up, she laid down and just stared up at the ceiling for a few seconds in silence.

Then suddenly her head shot up and she looked over at Philip, ❝ Where does everyone get food? Can we eat whenever we want? ❞

❛❛ yeah. a room all to yourself, and as long as you let us know before you go, so we don't end up wastin' time lookin' for ya when there's no need, you're free to go whenever ya want, ❜❜ philip told her. which was in part true. although with her immunity, of course she was too important to just let go, just like that. he'd let her think she was free to leave, but if she tried, he would have someone keep track of her. make sure she didn't stray too far.

but that was a concern for the future, should it ever come to that. he liked to imagine this place they had made for themselves was enjoyable enough to not want to leave for long. ❛❛ come. i'll show you the rooms. ❜❜ he gestured for her to follow, as he walked up the street, over to one of the buildings where there still were some free rooms. he opened the door for her, then led her over to the first, empty room. it was small, a single bed, a desk, a chair and a shelf filling it. nothing too impressive, but with the safety around, the comfort of knowing you had food and water and medicine and doctors and everything you could need? well, you didn't really need much more, did you? ❛❛ there's a couple more rooms like this down the hall, you're free to take your pick, ❜❜ he said.

♥️Reveling in Richonne - TOWL

#12: The Building (1.02)

It was such a welcomed sight to see Michonne build bonds with people who cared about her and her goals and even wanted to aid her along the journey. And the person she built the closest bond to is particularly good at building things himself and that comes in handy along the journey. However, things sadly take a tragic turn when Michonne and co have their first run-in with Rick's captors - the CRM 😟...

After parting with Nat's group, we see Michonne in the very scenario we saw in the TWD series finale as she takes out a walker and approaches a massive horde looking regal in her armor on the horse.

Undeterred, Michonne charges forward and it’s a great cinematic shot. Also, this is how you know she is crazily in love with Rick because she sees the largest sea of walkers imaginable and still intends to go through that biblical-sized horde to get to him.

Michonne uses the scream sticks to try and create an opening in the horde but that gas man catches fire and explodes, knocking her off her horse and turning the walkers' attention to her.

She gets up and takes out her sword prepared to take out as many as possible which is wild and shows her ultimate determination. But fortunately, she doesn’t have to do any of that because Nat’s purple light toys part the walkers like the Red Sea.

Michonne turns around to see that Nat and co have left their group and followed Michonne to help her on her journey. And again, seeing Michonne receive genuine friendliness and support was super refreshing. 🙌🏽🥹

They sit by a fire at night and I love Michonne and Nat’s dynamic as he addresses her falling off the horse and her defending that she was knocked off. Their banter makes me smile. 😊 Michonne looks all cozy as she asks about the purple light and Nat explains he has a lot of toys and inventions. He’s clearly extremely smart and innovative.

Nat explains why he stayed in the caravan group for years and how he knew it was time to go a long time ago. Michonne thanks them and they thank her for waking them up to realize their community was not it.

Michonne observes Aiden and Bailey and immediately picks up on something going on with them. Nat says, “I know how to build things and I know how to burn things. But it takes more than that at the end of the world. You showed them that. You showed me that.”

Look at Michonne always showing people the way and them knowing she shows them the way too. 🥰 And no one knows that more than Rick who told her that very thing in Say Yes and in his letter to her in the TWD series finale.

Then I love Nat saying, “We’ll take you as far as you need” Yes supporting her. 👏🏽😭 It’s everything Michonne deserves. And then I especially love Michonne saying, “When I get Rick, you’ll come back home with me all of you. You’ll be a part of it. It’s just gonna take a little building” I love it because she’s so hospitable and because she finally said Rick's name. I think it’s our first time hearing her say his name aloud since she found out he’s alive.

Nat excuses himself off to bed and Bailey says he’s going to get Aiden something to eat. Aiden tries to assure that she’s fine but Bailey is all lovingly determined to take care of her, and I know Michonne recognizes that type of love.

Michonne watches their exchange and says, “You’re pregnant.” Aiden confirms and says she had been craving honey and Bailey was determined to get it for her and surprise her.

Michonne listens and smiles hearing the story and it’s so bittersweet because I know this makes her think about how Rick wasn’t there during her pregnancy. 😢 You just know Rick, the ultimate gift-giving loverboy, would have searched far and wide to get Michonne whatever she craved when she was pregnant with RJ. And the fact that didn't get to happen is just...

Michonne, the always kind comforter, tells Aiden that she and Bailey should just head to ASZ now. Aiden is adamant that, “We want to be there when you find Rick” and I know a Richonner when I see one and this woman is a Richonner, y’all. 😋 She was eager for that reunion just like us lol. I know she can just sense that whatever love Rick and Michonne have is one they don’t want to miss bearing witness to.

Even when Michonne is adamant and says no they should go to ASZ, Aiden says, “We will. After you find Rick” and I’m glad that after it felt like characters were only allowed to directly say Rick's name once or twice a season after he left now we’re hearing Michonne and others just outright talk about Rick. 

Michonne smiles and says ok as she warmly pats her and again I’m loving the friendships. But also Michonne is always right so…they probably should’ve just went to ASZ when she told them to because what happens next is pretty darn tragic for everyone involved. 😬

The next day Michonne walks alongside Nat as more of the group follow and Michonne playfully questions why so many people followed Nat if he only likes her, Bailey, and Aiden. Nat teases that the others have gone up a letter grade but not quite to like, which is a testament to Michonne’s likability that he wholeheartedly liked her so quick while others he traveled with longer are still not quite there in his book. Nat basically said...

Michonne smiles and asks, “Who else in your life?” and I just really like seeing characters talk to get to know each other. I feel like at some point in the main show it was starting to feel like characters didn’t talk like this anymore so watching Michonne and Nat’s bond build through these conversations was nice to see.

I like how Nat says “me” as someone he likes lol and he also says his mom. Nat gives insight into some of his backstory as he shares that his dad wasn’t in the picture since he didn’t want a ‘little’ little kid and he had a lot of bullies so he started burning things and blowing things up in the woods.

Then Nat goes into a story that I realized on my rewatch very much parallels Michonne in a really sweet way.

Nat starts to talk about this guy Danger who his mom met and who became his stepdad. Who also became a stepparent to a young boy? Michonne.

Nat shares that Danger met his mom at a time when she worked a horrible job and “had one very troubled kid who hated Danger as soon as he looked at him.” Who also met her true love while he was in a very tough predicament and had a troubled kid who didn’t seem to like her at first? Michonne.

Nat says, “And this guy, with this stupid name, looked at that and said ‘hell yes’.” Who also looked at a person who would run around a prison seeing things and a kid who initially tried to push her away and ultimately said hell yes to them and embraced them as her family? Michonne.

I love how Danger and Nat's story connects to Michonne and Carl - one of TWD's best duos, besties, and mother and son. 

Nat, whose a great storyteller, continues saying, “Anyway, he married my mom and right after he moved in suddenly Danger had these problems that he needed solved. You know like that he needed me to solve.”

That reminds me of how Michonne too made Carl feel like a valued member of the group and not just some kid to write off. She even told Carl info about herself first that she hadn’t yet told anyone else, like about her son Andre, because she cared to connect with him as a person.

Nat explains all the things he’d build around the house for Danger and then in a moment of great acting from Matthew Jeffers he begins to wonder if Danger really needed all that help or if he focused him up on how he can build things instead of burn them.

Nat says, “I guess that’s somebody else I liked” and Michonne says, “Sounds like you loved him.” Such a sweet moment and really well done in getting us to feel even more invested in a new character.

I also really appreciate the way this pays homage to the beauty of step-parents who step up in a child’s life and come to mean the world to their kid. They could have made Danger a neighbor, teacher, uncle, etc, but making him a stepparent is definitely intentional here if you ask me. Because the great thing about TOWL is that every single scene is Richonne/Grimes family-related.

And hearing a story about a kid’s love for his great step-parent really reflects and pays homage to the great step-parent Michonne became to Carl and how he really loved her too. 🥲

I love how people stay telling Michonne life stories that parallel her own.

Nat’s friends tell him they love him as he tells them to shut up and then the love fest is brought to an explosive end as a helicopter flies over them.

It’s crazy finally seeing Michonne learn of the helicopters. They watch it fly and then Michonne quickly realizes this helicopter is here for nefarious reasons. She yells for the group to scatter as the helicopter bombs them with chlorine gas. The attack is brutal and has rapidly damaging effects.

Michonne and friends just barely make it inside a mall and when they do finally get in, they place Aiden on the bed as it’s clear she’s not going to make it. The chlorine gas also had a bit of negativity-gas laced in it because these hopeful Richonners no longer think the mission to find Rick is worth the risk.

On her deathbed Aiden tells Michonne, “Go back to your babies. Don’t risk it” and it’s really sad because you know she knows she’s not going to live to see her unborn baby and she doesn’t want Michonne to miss out on seeing hers again. 

Michonne knows a medical plaza where they might be able to get oxygen tanks because they can’t get air. Always the one willing to go, Michonne prepares to go back out into the toxic air and get the oxygen tanks and she tells Bailey not to fall asleep next to his girlfriend. That always stands out to me that Michonne advises this because it’s almost like she knows from personal experience that when you lose your soulmate it makes you want to just stop fighting and be with them.

As Michonne wheezes her way back inside the mall with the oxygen tanks it's unfortunately too late. She finds Aiden and Bailey both have turned. Nat is still alive, surrounded by fire and Michonne keeps Bailey from getting to him. This fire yet again speaks to the message of how fire both destroys and saves.

Nat thanks Michonne because he couldn’t bring himself to take out his close friend and then he too expresses that he thinks the rescue-Rick mission is futile as he says, “She was…she was right. When you can, you need to go home. It’s been too long...He’s gone” The way he says 'he’s gone' I was like damn they really dropped the mission quick. But not Michonne tho as she adamantly says, "No."

Because see, while the episode may be called "Gone", Michonne knows her man is not gone. Rick is still out there, she still feels him, and she is still fueled by that belief. It’s just now the trifling CRM has put a delay on things. A year-long delay. 😣 The CRM has to burn for that among many other things.

So now Michonne is stuck in this mall - but even here in these circumstances, we get to see the resilience that is Michonne Grimes. Because this journey isn’t over until she says it is. 😌👌🏽

Bailey got the can mid-air, easy — and a good throw. ❝ Alright then, tough guy. ❞ She chuckled, turning the can around to angle it so she could comfortable get a finger beneath the metal tab. ❝ You don't want any? ❞ She asked as she peeled the lid back, plucking it off the can and tossing it aside on the ground. She wouldn't argue... She was hungry, and she was always hungry, so if he didn't want any of it then so be it.

Rick also was tired of beans but it was indeed better than nothing. Especially since there had been a scuffle over them. He tossed the can to her. Rick wanted her to have them. He could always wait and find something later.

"Yeah, yeah. I've had worse trust me."

She wasn't wrong but she also couldn't really agree with it all either, probably out of pure stubbornness but this lady had no idea what she's been through or why she is the way that she is. Having people to worry about is what worries her to begin with. Life isn't without risk, though, she was certainly correct about that one. Choosing which risks to take is hard.

Bailey doesn't say anything but anyone could tell just by looking at her face, she definitely wasn't happy. At this point anything that came out of her mouth would likely just be to disagree and argue against whatever the other said just out of sheer spite. But, alas, she chooses not to say anything. The expression on her face spoke well enough for her. A lot of anger in a small body...

Though at least all that anger loosened up when the woman introduced herself, giving a name to the face. Sydney. The girl shifted on her feet, her head dropped and as she pondered whether or not to give her name, she stared at the corpses of walkers on the ground.

Her arms swing out as she lifted her head, ❝ My name is Bailey. ❞

Do you have any random fun facts

uhhhh um hm. the guy who plays King Ezekiel in twd (Khary Payton) is also in a super cool interactive musical about the greek gods where he plays Pan!!! he is romancable in the game. since its a game where you basically choose the way the musical goes and the way the songs go. Stray gods also has like all the cool bitches in it. like Ashley Johnson and Laura Bailey. Who are both known for their many voice acting roles as well. Also Felicia Day is in Stray Gods and has some of my fav songs in the game.

I know that you said countless times that you think show will go by the books but I wanted to ask: are you not afraid writers will make changes that would be more profitable with general audience? For example making Lestat and Armand have beef over Louis or other routes that we usually see in common media? I'm sure everyone in production love this show very much but business is business and AMC not doing particularly good :( I hope show won't get cancelled until we get at least complete TV adaptation, I love IWTV arc, show! Louis is very interesting character and I'm glad we're getting full adaptation but aside from musical there isn't any THE adaptations and considering it's my favorite TVC book and (In my opinion) best one, I'll be very disappointed if we won't get this story. Also other anon already pointed it out that engagement with Jacob's and Bailey's Emmy posts vs Sam's is different, people LOVE them (As they should! They have been AMAZING and made amazing characters), and love we it or not, viewership is greatly impacting production. I'm afraid even if they greenlight s3, we won't get any s4 and story will be incomplete (I think we all can agree you can't adapt TVL in 7-8 episodes)

Rolin Jones has a very clear vision, the way he set up the show itself already shows that.

Viewer interaction is always subjective, hell I've done the rallies in other fandoms, it all depends on a few who bring in the masses but it means nothing in the long run, and even less in regards to studios (sorry. Personal, bitter experience).

Going by social media engagement will get you nowhere, and going by viewership on a show that has not even been released internationally is... well.

No, I do not hope it will get canceled either, but I doubt Rolin Jones will cater to any big criers out there.

AMC never did that for TWD either iirc... I see no reason whatsoever for them to do so here.

Besides... you haven't even seen the engagement for season 3 onwards.

IWTV has been adapted before. We got a BRILLIANTLY updated version... but it is a repeat nonetheless.

Just wait till we get the new stuff.

ia i dont think we have to worry about the show being cancelled cause tbh other than twd they don't have any shows that do much better, its more the long term viability of amc as a company that we should worry about cause yah if it does get sold or acquried, you really don't know what'll happen to the existing shows. i do think its a shame that it doesn't have a bigger audience cause jacob anderson is giving the best performance on tv and he likely won't get recogition for it cause the show is too small, whereas basically anyone with half a line of dialogue on succesion is going to get emmy nominated just cause they're on that show.

i dont think itd be cancelled neither! the fact that they have the rights to tvc suggest theyll stay around until then at the very least until something happens. and i dont put too much stock in awards. lets also remember entertainment awards is rather discriminatory, award shows by n large in our day n age tend not to reward supernatural shows, amc has the budget of a toaster, and jacob anderson is a young black actor playing a black gay vampire. anyone who watches iwtv knows the effort he, sam, bailey, eric, assad, hell anyone with over 2 seconds of screentime all put into the characters they played. succession from what i see is a political drama with straight white guys (?) so of course thats what entertainment institutions may or may not readily reward but thats no knock on anyone’s acting, its more the institutions and how they operate.

I understand the urge to speculate but I feel like we need to be more concerned about whether AMC will be sold for parts soon (as many industry insiders think is inevitable). AMC+ is not expected to survive the streaming bloodbath that's for sure. s3 has not even been greenlit and honestly after the way Bailey departed I'm not going to assume Jacob is a 100% given either.

They got great numbers from their latest TWD spin-off show btw. And even though AMC will be sold to another company, it doesn't mean they'll drop IWTV or Immortal Universe. Sometimes I feel people forget how huge and iconic Vampire Chronicles and Lestat are. We're talking about the universe who defines a big part of modern vampires' lore, whose rights have been fought for by multiple studios for god knows how many years (I may not be a book reader, but I was there following any updates about the show, including that nightmarish Jared Leto to play Lestat era 😭)

I feel like I will keep repeating the same things about Jacob/Louis' future, but i don't know about you, I love and enjoy life. So far, the show itself, while it's not wholly perfect, doesn't disappoint me. Maybe I'll turn out to be wrong later idk. But the thing is it's "later", a problem for the future. I'll focus on the present and play around with the possibility of the future and don't go down with the doom-posting. Because personally, I don't see any use of that. My life is bleak enough, I need some positivity in the fandom. Cheers 🍻

okay I fixed up my blog, just a reminder, Bailey's Walking Dead verse is now request only, meaning if it's not specifically discussed, I will be using her main verse (The Last of Us). so that's been put into my blog... obviously any threads that I already have with her TWD verse will be kept as such unless my partner wants to switch the verse.

I've also went and fixed up Bailey's google slides, I added a new page to allow myself to expand more openly on details for her infection rather than forcing myself to shorten everything as much as possible to make it fit on one page. I've made some changes about her throughout the duration of the tv show so far, so there's some new stuff in there and I've expanded a lot on her infection and how it affects her.
