Narrator: “The time comes for all creatures, when childhood ends, and the doorway opens to life as an adult. And so it was with Fly’s pups. Though that time was all too soon, for Fly.”

I just wanna say that the dapper orangutan from Babe Pig in the City saved a baby too, and wasn't even near a microwave. So who's the real hero?

A Note on the Drama...
I know a lot of you have asked me to comment on the current controversy that's taken over our fandom's little corner of the internet. While I (and most of the other Babe writers I know) do not consider Babe: Pig in the City to be canonical, I understand that some fans like it even better than the original film. I don't agree, but I understand. That said, I feel obligated to vehemently condemn anyone who agrees with the opinion shared by *~PigTales~* alleging that Farmer Hoggett financially abuses his wife Esme. I cannot comprehend how some people out there (including writers I have respected for YEARS) can truly believe that Farmer Hoggett's accident (and resultant injury) when he was trying to fix the farm's well was somehow intentional and calculated. I don't think there is any evidence in either film to demonstrate that Farmer Hoggett would risk his farm and his own health in order to traumatize his wife. Then again, maybe I shouldn't be surprised...many of these fans are the same ones who suggested he was "gaslighting" her in the first film when he didn't tell her about Babe's unique abilities before the televised sheep-herding competition. There is so much nuance in the Hoggetts' relationship that is being ignored by these folks. Ultimately, this work is predominantly a Sky/Rex story (with Sky/Ferdinand as endgame), but I will not cave to the demands of *~PigTales~* and her supporters--Farmer Hoggett/Esme Hoggett will remain a background pairing.

It helps, I think, to regard Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga as less of a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road and more of a reskin of Babe: Pig in the City.

It's insane to me that the wildest cinematic feat of director George Miller's career is not the Oscar nominated Mad Max: Fury Road, but instead it's the sequel to the little sheepherding pig movie. Truly his opus. Perfection. No notes.

opinions on babe pig in the city
Hi Valnon, great question! I'd be happy to answer it. To me, Babe Pig In The City (1998) is cinema. Scorsese, Kubrick, Spielberg. None can compare to the majesty that is Babe Pig In The City (1998). Now, I know reader that you'll be doubting me. You'll be saying "Oh Jade, you're just being silly". Shut the fuck up. I am deadly serious right now. I'll delve into this if I have to.
So, what's so good about Babe Pig In The City (1998)? Well, everything. Babe Pig In The City (1998) was the first film to take a look at the world in a Foucaldian lens. To hold a mirror up to not just the world, but the hearts within it. To show that we are more than our chains. This is what Babe Pig In The City (1998) is. Also I have never seen it

Briana Wu Promotes #StrangeWorld
youtube
I will give this person I've never heard of before a benefit of the doubt. I think that what she meant about the disabled dog wasn't ''This dog is disabled and that's great.'' but ''This dog is disabled but is still capable of having a happy life with a family instead of being put down or having to spend the rest of his life in a dog pound because no one wants to adopt it.''
But this person also apparently ''accidentally'' killed a dog. The jokes just write themselves! It comes across as virtue signaling and a complete lack of self-awareness.
Also, Babe has Rex, a dog hard of hearing, and its sequel, Babe: Pig in the City has Flealick, a dog in a wheelchair, and those movies come out in the 90s.

And Blue Sky, the studio Disney shut down, made Epic, a movie with an elderly dog without a leg and an eye, and that movie came out in 2013.
Tumblr media
These people want to be trailblazers so badly but the trail is already here. It's been here for years!
You have representation in a lot of better movies than Strange World.

One thing that I'll never quite get over is that the original Babe movie is pretty much my favourite film of all time and gives me that warm childhood nostalgia every time I watch or even hear the soundtrack, and yet I absolutely despise its sequel for its sloppy plot, inappropriate usage of primates for performing and the fact that it still makes me sad cry as a grown-ass woman.

This artist clearly wasn't briefed on the story beyond the title and "kid has a parrot", but damn if it isn't evocative. Paperback artists should get their names on the cover, not hidden down by the ISBN. No kid would have shelled out for this at the book fair if it weren't for this leering little creep getting weird with his bird.

popular flanderized HLVRAI characterizations: Bubby is tsundere, Benrey uses modern gamer lingo
my personal HLVRAI flanderization: gman always gets the title of movies he likes just slightly wrong. Like small enough that it's not worth correcting him. It's not on purpose
