how many words does the average playthrough have?
There's no real easy way to answer this because. unlike ChoiceScript, Twine only offers total word count including the code. However, what I got from literally just... copying and pasting the text into another word document, it works out to ~15k per playthrough.
Some choices I made:
Only clicked on the first choices of everything, except for if it put me into an infinite loop. This essentially went through every possible scene (though not all its variations due to personality and skill differences) because the choices are structured in a way that exiting out of a dialogue branch was the last option.
Clicked on every available looking link and counted every looking passage
Only counted one line per customization (only black hair, brown eyes, compact body type, but didn't count anything for skin tones)
Did not count the text in the choices at all (the ones with stars)
Did not count anything in the codex or profile at all
Counted each description for the skills once.
Didn't include the text from the very beginning, tooltip text from distinctive features, or anything while picking pronouns
My approximate guess is that the true word count of the game without coding may be ~35k (30% deducted from word count with code), so perhaps one playthrough without using the back button to peek at other options may be enough to see about half of it all!
Thanks so much for asking 💕💕

Almost 900k words and we're not even at chapter 13 yet 😭🙏 how many words do you think 1 playthrough will be?
I have no idea lol, I wouldn't even know how to begin calculating the length of an average playthrough versus total wordcount, and it doesn't seem that anyone's come up with a surefire way to do it yet! There's a technique that some people have said works--running randomtest and dividing the total wordcount it sees by the number of seeds it ran--and that number pops out something around 130,000 for an average playthrough, but I'm not totally convinced that's an accurate number, since my game is structured a bit differently (having all the day off stuff as a hub/recursive loop that's separated out into different files, and same with training sequences, glossary and codex, etc.). So I don't really see how that could be accurate at all, given that Chapter 5 alone is like 90,000 words... So I'm not really sure how to calculate that, unfortunately!

Accidentally
I planned on going to bed early as a celebration, but then I looked at my unfinished pf of Siffrin in the sketchbook and boom couple of hours of sketching, lining and coloring and the beans are now officially paper figured
I can now randomly take photos of them in a forest whenever I feel like it. I have couple pfs on me every day just in case of this happening

Been a while since I've submitted one so here's a The 🐍 take: Sometimes it's good to go out on a limb and use community claimed "F Tier" units because sometimes those units aren't actually bad, they're just slow or have unreliable RNG or something else minor to make them less appealing for ironman or LTC runners. Use that mediocre character, and you might just get a new random favorite character because they hit 3 crits in a row despite low hit chance!

One day I'm going to make a Tav who is the anti-Durge as a palette cleanser between the drama and angst: no giant traumatic backstory, fucked up habits or divine origin, just The Most Average Person Ever.
Working class Baldurian, probably a human of Tethyrian ethnicity, probably working in the trades (dockhand, sailor or merchant, most likely). Has a (relatively) completely normal relationship free of most angst and no more drama than the usual kind. Worst thing that happens, character development wise, is that they discover the politician they kinda liked the sound of is a supervillain and they have to re-examine their approach to politics.

It just dawned on me...I didn't realize it before probably cause I'm atheist but dont people tend to seek comfort in higherpowers/gods when they experience desperation and suffering?
So wouldn't edelgards war , which causes mass unrest, death, suffering, famine, etc. Actually cause more people to wish for salvation/intervention from a the Goddess?
No doubt about it, which is a huge part of what makes her zeal to destroy it so horrible. And what makes the CF endings where it does stay but only when directly under her supervision so insidious. She takes away the means in which people find comfort, only to "remake" it so that she has say in how the belief is practiced.
The Church was always its own entity, mostly leaving the surrounding countries alone - it'll intervene when asked to or when attacked, but otherwise they tend to stay out of everyone's business. When Byleth takes over, they either do so alongside the ruler of Fodlan (AM) or they are the only available person left to rule (SS/VW) since they are the one the people want to lead them. There's either a distinct separation between the Church and the ruling party, or there's no other choice but to have the two parties merge. Plus, Seteth and Flayn are there to help Byleth lead the Church in all cases of them leading it (with SS even allowing for the chance for Rhea herself to help).
That's, um, not quite the case with Edelgard. She actively kills/disposes of every other possible ruler with the explicit purpose of ruling over their lands and for Adrestia to be the only one there to control Fodlan. So her killing Rhea, Seteth, and Flayn (or forcing Seteth and Flayn to leave Fodlan) before going on to take control of the religion that was about their mother, well, could only ever really be for one reason; further control.
She already spies on the populace, as seen from Hubert's ending with Dorothea. She enforces a secret police as seen with Hubert's ending with Shamir. She indulges in censorship in her ending with Dorothea. And, again, she's purposefully killed off anyone that could stop her or challenge her control. Not exactly the longest stretch in the world that she also does what she does with the Church to get more control, considering everything else she does. Now the people who were so devastated about losing their religion totally no longer have to worry - now that it's been fixed and is being led by a good human, they are allowed to practice it with no fear of consequences! ...yeah that's gonna get a yikes from me lol.
And the thing is, even if I'm way off base and that's not meant to be taken like that... what you said is still very much true lol. Like, I'm far from religious, but somethin' tells me that for many religious folks extreme hardships would, like... just make them more ardent believers? And/Or that it would, uh, not exactly soothe them to see their religion mercilessly attacked and destroyed, only to be taken over by its destroyer? There'll be some who drink the Kool-Aid like Manuela, but I don't think the majority of believers would exactly be happy with Edelgard once her war is finished

i've reached the part of octopath traveler where i have literally only one thing left to do (the final dungeon/boss) but that's allegedly going to require me to use all 8 of my characters despite no spillover experience existing and no convenient way of grinding existing. boys this shit was bad when FFVI did it and it's bad here
