DPXDC prompt. Ghost King uses Uno Reverse Card
Ghosts are not a race of evil creatures that most people think they are. And Danny was really happy when the Infinite Realms were able to make peace treaties with most countries of the human world. Ghosts, however, are a very vindictive race. At least that’s how young Phantom explained himself to Batman afterwards.
It just so happens that a couple of hours before the event aimed at expanding intergalactic unions most of the JLeague members due to an emergency call went on a mission. Which means people who had any authority in Phantom’s eyes became unavailable for a while.
So Shazam and Phantom as the most known outside the Earth were assigned to greet the guests and most importantly to entertain the visitors until the founders of JL return.
According to Phantom, Batman, being such a good detective with a bunch of backup plans, should have known that Danny’s favorite cereal ran out this morning, that he was late for first class, and that after school he had a fight with his parents. No, seriously, aren’t so-called scientists supposed to be able to admit mistakes in their own judgment? Danny got tired of being constantly ashamed of their behavior near other ghosts. It's bad enough that his authority as a ruler is sustained only by the support of those Ancients with whom he maintains friendly relations. Average citizens still doubt that he is a is sufficient to claim the throne. He’s had enough of being accused of not being a full-fledged ghost. He’s not ready to hear rumors that he supports his parents' racist judgments too. In short, his day sucked. And all his ghostly nature now wanted to do something nasty to his neighbors to get rid of the tension.
Alien leader stretched out a hand to Phantom and Shazam. “Your Majesty Phantom, Champion of Magic. It’s an honor to meet you. I hope I learned the proper greeting gesture of the local intelligent race.”
And with that Danny’s reserve of conscience ran out. It’s a perfect moment to feed his need to be a little shit.
“The local intelligent race?’ Danny had this extreme bewilderment on his face. “Which one do you think..? Earth was the home of the Gods and of various inhabitants of the galaxy but it was a long time ago.”
Woman is clearly confused. Great. “E-Earthers. I think they’re called that.”
“Earthlings, intelligent race? You must be mistaken.” Danny faked a giggle. “Who told you that crap?”
“Phantom, what are you doing?” Batman hissed at him from an earpiece. Danny turned the sound off with a clear conscience. “I mean, seriously, there’s not a single serious study in the science library in this galaxy or any other galaxy that says humans are intelligent. Shazam, do you think they’re..?”
For some reason, Billy immediately remembered watching a man spend his entire salary on lottery tickets last week. And of course he was careless enough to shake his head and snort. That was all Phantom needed.
“Exactly. Earthlings don’t have to be intelligent to mimic the behavior of more evolved species. Surely you are well aware that Martians and Kryptonians, and many others have visited Earth at different stages of human development. My supervisor Clockwork and I have long been observing this strange species. In many ways, their behavior resembles a mixture of instinctive reactions of specimens from the 126 sectors of the nearest SBc Galaxy and several other creatures from planets of the galaxy KV59. However, even I, as an anthropologist with extensive experience of observing human species in their natural habitat, still have to explore and discover many of their secrets.”
“I do not understand. According to the documents among the delegation that greets us there are Earthlings. I mean I don’t question the scientific evidence of a respected Chronos or you, but why then..”
“Of course you don’t! It’s really quite simple. For the purity of the clinical experiment, which we are conducting now, it is necessary that Earthlings feel themselves ostensibly full participants of the «society» consisting of members with developed intelligence.”
“So, any luck, colleague?” Shazam, who realized that Batman would now skin them anyway, decided to at least participate in this theater so that the punishment would be at least deserved.
“Well, we’ve certainly come up with some interesting preliminary insights about the adaptive capacity of the human brain in limited contact with Martians. Of course, humans do not have real emotions to be full participants in communication, but their attempts and zeal are very inspiring.”
~~~~~
Meanwhile, Fentons watching a live broadcast of what was supposed to be an interplanetary friendship encounter are beginning to realize that if trying to punish a rebellious human teenager has always been difficult for them, the attempt to control the behavior of the 14 y/o half-ghost may become a nightmare not only for them.
Jack: Honey, I think Danny’s still a little upset about our old theories about the ability of ghosts to feel or think.
Jazz, sitting between them with the face of a man resigned to the chaos around her, could not restrain the sarcasm: Really? Why would you think that?
“I think I could eat this everyday, every meal, for a month.”
Sam’s gushing over the fulfilled requests for dinner earned a chuckle from the replacement team that had brought it. Stephanie, Cass and Jason had all been sent home to get their own dinner, being ones with their masks covering their mouths. And now Dick and Duke were nibbling on the second half of their own dinner while three of the teenagers crammed the food into their mouths at a rate that made Duke concerned.
“Just don’t choke on it, okay? We’re not going to take it away if you’re worried about that,” Duke commented, still marveling at how much food was disappearing into Danielle’s mouth. He was a little envious of everyone else getting to eat dinner at the manor, but this made up for it just a bit.
“I’ll let our chef know you liked it,” Dick just laughed, not minding the poor table manners at all. These kids probably hadn’t had a good meal since before they’d arrived in Gotham, so he couldn’t blame them for gorging on the warm meal. Plus it was Alfred’s cooking. Even if they weren’t half starved he’d bet they still would have devoured the food.
“I can’t decide if I’m just hungry or if this really is the most amazing steak I’ve ever tasted,” Tucker almost whispered. The only reason he had slowed down was because he was already on his third steak.
“Probably a bit of both,” Dick laughed again, enjoying his own steak of the same preparation. He had been worried about Jazz when he’d gotten back, but she seemed to be doing better now. She’d seemed even more sullen than before when they’d returned, still sitting on the stool near Danny and curling her fingers around his hand. Dick had watched her for a bit while they had unloaded the food and found that the heart monitor was probably not making her feel comforted at all. Danny’s heart rate was slow, and irregular, ranging 40 beats per minute on average and sometimes having gaps in between. It was the gaps that had clued Dick in to it being the problem, seeing Jazz snap her attention to the screen when there had been a delay, and flinching when the next beat sounded. It had been enough motivation for Dick to switch the monitor to a silent mode, adding in parameters for when to trigger an alarm when he did so. Leslie had assured them that the half frozen state of Danny’s body was what was causing the lower heart rate, and that they wouldn’t be able to do anything about it until they broke Danny out of his own self caused stasis. So Dick felt it was unnecessary to torture his sister with the sound of the monitor.
Luckily once Duke coaxed her over to eat, the taste of the food had been enough distraction for Jazz to sink her teeth into the fried chicken with little care for the fork. She’d made it through probably an entire fried chicken on her own by now, and also had plenty of the squash and other vegetables. It was pleasing to see, though Danielle made Dick almost think his best friend Wally was there, and only eating slowly to be polite. She definitely had some sort of altered metabolism, following true to her request and finishing off five chickens and an entire butternut squash on her own. When Duke had asked if she liked the food she’d just given a thumbs up and grinned with her teeth sunk into a drumstick.
“...We’ve made some progress on your predicaments,” Dick eventually started once they had given the kids enough time to eat a good amount. It caused all of them to slow, and Danielle paused for a moment to burp into her hand before quietly looking towards him. “Are you guys familiar with the concept of alternate realities? Sometimes referred to as dimensions, realms, multiverse…”
It wasn’t a completely foreign concept to the kids, but not one that seemed too familiar either based on their only semi confused reactions to the question. Tucker took a moment to clear his mouth before answering for them. “Yeah, we’ve heard of them. They’re all over in science fiction stories and stuff.”
That response made Dick’s subconscious pause. It wasn’t an outright lie, but something about it seemed off. Deliberately vague. “Well, you’re all in one now,” Dick continued without pausing outwardly.
Sam almost spit her drink as Tucker and Jazz both exclaimed, “WHAT?!”
“You mean the stupid morons shot us to a different realm?” Danielle burst, obviously irritated.
“Does that mean the- … Is our dimension still there?” Jazz asked, half rising to her feet and looking from Danielle to Dick.
“Calm down, it’ll be alright,” Dick called evenly, making a calming motion with his hands. “Just displacing a few people from their original dimension usually isn’t enough to cause it to disappear. I’m sure your original home is fine. But that’s also why you’ve been having such difficulty here. You didn’t exist in our dimension until a few months ago.”
It was starting to click in their heads, Dick and Duke watching as the connections were being made as each teen’s expression became one of realization.
“Your debit card,” Sam noted, pointing to Jazz.
“When I tried to call mom and dad on the payphone,” Jazz responded.
“And the fact that no one seems to have even heard of ectoplasm as an actual substance,” Tucker chimed in. “We just thought everyone in the big city were a bunch of weirdos,” he added, looking back to Dick and Duke. “Amity has always been a hotspot, we knew that. But all the people in costumes and codenames we’d never heard of? We just thought it was some fad big city people did that never made it to our town.”
“Not like we didn’t have other things to worry about too,” Sam added, folding her arms for a moment before glancing back to her plate and deciding the butternut squash was more enticing than being closed off.
“That makes sense. It’s also why you never would have heard of Batman or the rest of us,” Dick agreed. Being more worried about keeping themselves and their 5th team member alive would definitely not leave them with a lot of free time to even consider they were in another dimension. “In light of this we’re not relying too much on what we need being pre existent. So Batman is currently working on an antitoxin based on breaking down plant based matter - our botanical contact confirmed blood blossoms don’t exist here - and figuring out a way we can collect ectoplasm from the ambient instead of relying on something like Lazarus water. While he works we’ll keep providing you five with what you need. Unfortunately you’ll have to stay here to keep out of trouble. I don’t know about your realm, but ours has a bunch of laws about citizenship, and being in other countries without the proper verification and paperwork. Considering you’re essentially without citizenship to any country, we don’t want you guys getting taken in by the police. Members of our team will keep in touch, and give you guys updates as they come. Make sense?”
It was unexpectedly more than they were used to getting. Even back in Amity people still had mixed feelings about ghosts, so they had to rely only on themselves for any help. While avoiding dealing with any local self proclaimed heroes that liked to hunt ghosts too. But it seemed that these people, Batman and those who worked for him, didn’t really care that two of their team were half ghosts. They didn’t seem to know anything about ghosts, yet were still willing to help.
“So, you’re saying if we behave ourselves and stay under house arrest, you’ll still help Danny?” Danielle asked when no one else made a comment before her.
“Yes. Our original agreement still stands, regardless of if you’re from this dimension or not,” Dick confirmed. It was less about them being illegal residents and more about them possibly still being targeted though. Lazarus water wasn’t something the common criminals had access to, so Dick and the others had a hard time believing whoever had been slighted would give up after one assassination attempt. They had to keep their new charges safe by keeping them off the radar. And the best way they could think of keeping them out of trouble they had no idea they were even walking into was to keep them isolated from the potential threats. At least until they could get Danny healthy again, and teach them all who and what to avoid.
“.... Alright,” Jazz nodded this time. She was still the one who was the most wary of the four, but Dick was already seeing her starting to become more willing to believe them. He wouldn’t say she trusted them yet, but she was at least open to listen. “Thank you… for the update.”
—----
Back at the Wayne manor Cass and Barbara were watching the video feed from Dick and Duke’s masks while Bruce was in a separate part of the cave working on the anti toxin. When Cass tilted her head after Tucker’s answer about having heard of alternate dimensions, Barbara glanced at her. “Is he lying?” she asked, that being the first thing she could think of that would get Cass to react.
Cass remained quiet for a moment, watching their reactions to being informed they were in a different dimension, and blinking at Jazz’s slip up. “Not quite. They’re hiding something, but… It’s protective. They don’t want us to know because they think they’re keeping something safe,” she answered.
“Something other than Danny?” Barbara asked, having caught the two extra bits of information. Danielle had mentioned another group of people, and Jazz had started to speak of something other than their original realm. Obviously the people Danielle called morons weren’t who they were being protective of, so it had to be the thing that Jazz was wondering if it was still there. And Jason had also already given them the comment that Jazz seemed wary of the government. So were the morons part of the government in their dimension? Or a different party? It was pretty safe to follow the idea that the morons could potentially be the ones who they had been fighting before being sent to Gotham, and therefore the ones who had hurt Danny. And it was a fair reason not to trust government officials if all three of those facts were connected.
Cass nodded to Barbara’s question, confirming that they were on the same train of thought. “They are not used to being given help from outsiders,” she added once Dick had given the full report.
“That tracks with how they reacted to the rescue mission,” Barbara smirked slightly. It was unfortunately something they saw often enough in the kids in Gotham, so it wasn’t too hard to work with their lack of trust.
“What else is new?” Jason’s question came as he looped his arms over the back of the chair Cass was in, damp hair betraying he’d borrowed one of the showers in the manor.
“Jason? I thought you’d headed home already,” Barbara greeted. “Nothing crazy. Cass says it looks like they’re protecting something else other than Danny, but we haven’t gotten enough hints to start guessing what.”
“Hmm,” Jason hummed, watching the video feed of their wards getting settled for the night. It was all spare sleeping mats and quilts, but it hopefully was better than what they had been dealing with so far. “Tim and Steph are working on who had them targeted? Will there be a follow up attack?”
“It’s highly likely,” Barbara admitted with a small grimace. “Currently the League of Assassins are the only ones who have access to Lazarus water. It looks like the Phantom kids intercepted an exchange to another contact to get their canister. Judging by the amount and destination it seemed to have been en route to a research facility. Depending on how far along the transaction was, and how close of ties the League has with the buyer, I can see them targeting the one that interfered.”
“Yeah, that’s what I thought,” Jason sighed. “I’ll head back there for the morning rotation, I don’t think the girl Dani will behave very long. You think she’s the one called Phantom?”
It was only mildly surprising to see that Jason had taken an interest in this task. The kids had been in an area close to where he usually patrolled after all. Though Barbara grew a little sad when he asked if she thought Danielle was the one they had all adopted the name Phantom from. As Cass shook her head and pointed to Danny, Barbara added her agreement. “I think the boy is the original Phantom. They follow Jazz instead of her, and… she is his clone.”
Jason’s eyes widened at the revelation, having not been at the manor when the DNA samples had been on screen. When Barbara pulled them back up to show him how they knew, Jason huffed in bitter amusement. “Unexpected sibling indeed,” he mused, remembering what Jazz had said. “They must get along well enough since she doesn’t seem to mind being named after him too.”
“Indeed. They all seem close,” Barbara agreed, gaining a smile as Dick’s check in on the room of sleeping teens revealed Danielle had already moved in her sleep enough to be laying across Jazz’s waist with her feet propped up on Tucker.
Now that there wasn’t much to watch for that Dick and Duke couldn’t take care of, Cass turned the chair to face away from the computer. “Sleep. Be ready for tomorrow,” she announced, looking at both of them before getting up.
“Yeah that sounds like a good idea,” Jason agreed, tucking his hands in his pockets. “I’ll take a nap then cover the early morning patrol before coming back to pick up breakfast. If Tim is on morning duty for the kids too, make sure he also gets some sleep. I don’t want to deal with his nasty drink getting spilled in the car.”
Barbara could only snort at the comment, raising a hand to wave. “As if any of us can ever get that kid to sleep even without a case,” she chuckled. “I’ll try, but no promises.”
“Fair enough,” Jason huffed, heading up the stairs and leaving Barbara to watch the monitors.
dc x dp prompt inspired by this tiktok
if you don’t wanna click the link, in summary it’s a hyper-realistic animation commenting on American overconsumption and capitalism through the metaphor of jeff bezos owning a bakery and using his sugary workers as ingredients once he realizes it makes his pastries more delicious. (it’s permanently altered my brain chemistry, i recommend that you watch it it’s so good.)
anyways, i’m aiming for “they’re in the same universe already” type angle, but you can do whatever you want. so let’s say a former GIW dude gets laid off and ends up in gotham. through whatever hijinks you choose, the guy discovers that shades are DELICIOUS in your average pastry and decides to open a bakery with this knowledge. (the only reason this dude and gotham citizens can consume these is cuz they’re liminal contaminated or something, you decide.)
now also for whatever reason, we find danny in gotham (with or without his companions) and by some magic of fate (clockwork probably) he stumbles on the bakery. he’s maybe heard how good it is and they’re just so yummy or something or other. upon trying it, he immediately wants to puke because he knows that there are shades in it and it feels like full on cannibalism. what he does about it is up to you.
on the bats end, they’re all enjoying these pastries as much as any other person in gotham. some bat manages to coax jason into trying one and when he tastes, he has a similar reaction to danny. he doesn’t recognize the secret ingredient as shades or inherently cannibalism, but he just feels down in his being that there’s something fucked up about it. (lazarus pits obviously tip one further towards liminal than not.)
side note on that, considering damien was raised nearby the lazarus pits for a majority of his childhood, i say that he’s neutral on the taste. like, it isn’t delicious or anything but it’s not the worst thing he’s tasted. and he’s definitely not gonna search out the sweet treats. (maybe he connects the dots between his and jason’s liminal-bility? does he follow jason around as he investigates the bakery? it’s up to you ;) )
on the other hand, the other bats don’t understand their distaste/neutrality and think jason’s tweaking, but jason knows what he knows. (cass believes him obvi. they probably investigate the bakery together)
so this is probably where the duo meets danny, and they figure out the stuff together and now you add whatever angst you want that comes with the combined worlds of danny phantom and detective comics. is danny the ghost king? demon twin au? is jason a baby halfa? it’s all up to y’all ig
NOW BE FREE *drops the idea at fanfic writer’s feet and skedaddles away*
Dark Blue Moon and the Suffering Sun Chapter 22
MASAPOST
this chapter kicked my ass, what with the allergic attack and continued insomnia epsidoe ;-;
Danny watched as Damian’s body froze in dawning horror. The hang-up sound deafened the room. The boy sat stock still. His arms trembled. The phone slipped out of his palm. He didn’t bother to pick it up.
“I… I do not understand.” Damian whispered. “I was speaking in plain English.”
But Danny understood. He understood now, where he never knew before. A lump grew in his throat.
How many people think about the movements of their tongues in speech? How many people actively plan out and execute precisely which movements their mouths make, judging distances, contours, contact time and aerodynamics? How many conversations has the average person had without a single thought towards any of these factors?
His siren brain turned Damian’s shell-shaken chirps into English words so seamlessly that it took active concentration to remember they weren’t English words, not any that a human could easily understand.
“Damian-”
“Do not ‘Damian’ me!” Damian’s fins turned into rigid spines, a reaction he only ever saw from sirens seriously trying to kill him. “We have been speaking in English this entire time! Why could he not understand me?! I have been-”
Damian’s eyes widened. His breathing hitched, then labored. His hands went to clutch at his throat.
“What have I been speaking?”
“Damian, I’m sorry.”
“When you threatened the sailor for his phone password, he complied immediately. You spoke human English to him!” Damian jabbed Danny’s chest, accusation radiating off every word.
“I know. Damian, I-”
“Father is a discerning man. He will not accept a phone call from a strange number twice! You could have squandered the only opportunity we have had to contact help for thousands of miles!”
The young boy’s chest strained to contain his breathing.
“Damian, you’re hyperventilating. Let’s slow down and-”
“No!” Damian backed away from Danny’s hands, like they were molten lava. “We need to contact father again, now! Show me how to form human words.”
Danny stuttered. He had never thought how to do that. He spoke in clicks to his enemies, and when he changed to human form, he’d speak normally again with his loved ones. Changing to human words in siren form was effortless to him.
Damian did not wait for his response long. The boy wheezed, and gasped. The boy’s throat clenched and throbbed as he spat out rasping hisses, and malformed syllables.
He sucked in another breath, and tried again. Each attempt ended up in failure. Damian’s breath grew shallower, his breathing accelerating further and further.
“No! No, no, no, no!” Damian muttered. The boy’s body slumped over, collapsed against the floor. “Why can I not do it?! What do I need? Show me!”
Damian’s chin wobbled His eyes wavered with tears threatening to come out.
Danny was at a loss. Heat scorched his cheeks, shame and guilt in tandem. “I- I- I don’t k-know. I never l-learned. I-it just came naturally to me.”
“I have lost my legs! I have lost my family. I have lost my age and my mental maturity. And you never saw it fit to tell me I have lost my voice too?! What else will you take from me?!”
Danny’s heart seized. A white streak dripped down Damian’s cheek. Then another. Danny lowered his head. “I’m sorry Damian. I- I didn’t mean to. I didn’t know this would happen.”
“What do you mean?!” The child wailed. “We have been swimming for two days! You have had so much time to consider, and yet you did nothing!”
“We can still contact your dad. I-I can speak to him. Or we could text. Or maybe-”
Danny’s nose prickled. Voices came from around the boat. Atlantean voices. More than ten of them. He raised his head, and spotted scores of soldiers announcing their presence in front of the boat. A couple of them in fancy headgear also sported Atlantean magic tattoos. Not good at all.
Damian wrenched a half-sobbing chirp too broken to understand. Danny scooped up the tiny, tiny child, and turned them both invisible. Damian pushed against his arms, but Danny kept firm. He shattered the windows of the room, causing the soldiers outside to yelp and ready their weapons. Without giving them anymore notice, he jumped into the water, speeding away from the scene.
Danny had lost count of how many hours he’d swum, Damian still clinging to his back. Whatever faint traces of warmth the boy had started to show him had long evaporated.
“Damian?” Danny prompted, for what felt like the hundredth time. “Damian, I’m sorry, I swear I didn’t mean to.”
What did he mean to do?
Damian remained quiet, and terrifyingly still. All that came out was a tiny whine and a hiccupped gasp.
“Damian, I promise there’s an explanation for this. It’s-” Danny stopped. It’s what? What could he say to explain? That he was a full human until he was 13 years of age? That he’d had about 10 positive interactions with the other members of his ‘species’ his entire life? That he was not even what or who he said he was, a freak of nature, tainted and touched in ways he could barely imagine?
His only safety net was his secrecy. Danny’s mind flashed to armadas of GiW ships funded by Wayne Enterprises, his parents at the helm of the flagship, and Bruce Wayne soon after. He imagined swimming, and swimming, and swimming for the rest of his life, hiding away in the Mariana Trench and never seeing the stars again.
Damian had no reason not to tell his father everything that transpired during this journey. And he especially had the right to be very angry with Danny. After all, who else failed to save him?
But he was also owed an explanation of some kind. Maybe a half truth? Danny swallowed the lump in his throat. He cleared his mouth. Why were there tears blurry his vision?
“Do not speak to me.” Damian muttered. Nowhere was the boisterous, prideful ego. The kid sounded utterly defeated.
“Damian…” Danny begged. He blinked as fast as he could. The tears were even faster.
“The only reason I have allowed you to carry me is because I still wish to go home. But I do not wish to speak to you. Or speak, period.”
Danny let the silent tears fall freely. “Ok.”
Jack Fenton lay on a mechanic creeper, looking into the complex mesh of wires he and Maddie had concocted in a feverish haze over the course of a single day, and now it was sparking. That was worrying. No need to sweat it, though. Jack Fenton was nothing if not a mechanic, and he’d sort this issue out in no time.
Maddie was on the deck, carefully watching for any siren interlopers who might take an easy shot at them. With her at the helm, Jack had nothing to fear as he inspected the damage.
His eyes traced lines of wires and pipes. Hydroplasm tubes leading into combustion chambers fed by cooling units. Ahah! There it was! One of the cooling tubes was leaking. The bolts on the thing were just a bit too loose, and water was beginning to drip through. A layman might think a cooling tube being broken would cause issues, but the Fentons were nothing if not thorough. Their failsafe system kicked in, and forced the engines to slow down so as not to overheat everything. Let it never be said that Jack Fenton did not care for the safety of his children!
Actually, now that he thought about it, there were a lot more minor issues than he thought there would be. Nothing major, thank goodness, but he could tell why the SAV had been chugging lately.
Time to get to it! Now what tools would he need?
Jack Fenton sat up, only for his head to bang on a pipe. He fell back onto the creeper with a wheeze. Gotta keep an eye on where he was!
“Dr Fenton?” Was that Brucie?
“Brucie boy! Please, call me Jack! Dr Fenton was my dad.”
“I’m sure Jasmine will soon be saying the same.” Brucie chuckled. “Jasmine told me you were taking longer than normal. Need a hand?”
“You sure about that? This isn’t the kind of thing you can find in an old Toyota.”
Brucie was out of his fancy suit and tie, and in more dirty work-appropriate wear. At least he had the spirit!
“I’m sure that won’t be a problem. I’ve done a few creative engineering projects myself. Some of my designs are sold by the company.”
Jack rolled himself back into the open air, where Brucie was already taking stock of the machinery. Jack’s eyebrows shot up.
“Huh. I didn’t know you were a hands-on type of CEO!”
“I try not to be distant from the people I’m working with in the company. This is your field of expertise, though. If I’d get in the way, that’s fine too.”
“No, no! It’s been a long since time someone’s been this interested in our work. Most people run away! Probably the sirens intimidating ‘em.”
“I can imagine.” Brucie’s voice became sombre.
“Oh, I’m sorry, Brucie, I didn’t mean to, well.”
“It’s alright. The two of us are in the same boat, anyway.”
Jack snorted. Brucie’s face cracked up a little. “Alright then. Come on down and I’ll show you what we need to do.”
Brucie wasn’t lying when he said he had experience. Guy was keeping up with Jack as he explained how the engine worked and why it wasn’t working now. It was like he was talking to a peer in the field! It was exhilarating, considering he and Maddie made up pretty much half of the entire field of siren research.
“Where do you even get enough energy to power this thing? I know it’s not oil or coal or any kind of fossil fuel.”
“That’s easy, Brucie! It’s hydroplasm! Same thing that makes up sirens’ bodies. Gives them their powers.”
Brucie coughed loudly, almost dropping the power cell he was holding up while Jack redid the seals. “So it’s siren blood?”
“I guess you could say that. Not like we’ve ever actually caught one.” Jack tapped the hydroplasm tubes. Thankfully those ones were still airtight and secure. “All this stuff is filtered from the big blue sea herself! Ain’t that neat?”
“It’s incredible.” Jack felt pride swell, for his and his wife’s hard work.
“You’re pretty incredible yourself, Brucie.”
Brucie’s eyebrow quirked. “I can’t say I haven’t heard that before, but it’s usually from women trying to get my attention.”
“I mean it! Most parents wouldn’t have the gumption to take to the seas and fight monsters from the abyss for their kids. And that’s fair! Not everyone’s got the expertise Mads and I do.”
Jack turned the last screw and tapped the power cell. Tight as a tourniquet.
“And not every CEO’s willing to get knee-deep in nuts and bolts either.” Jack continued. Truth be told, Jack had never thought of the possibility of meeting a rich person before. He always thought they’d be in some other kind of world, totally unlike anything he knew. Vladdie was different of course. They went back all the way to their college days, after all.
“Not every parent would personally invent an arsenal worthy of sailing the high seas and fighting through them to get their son back.”
Jack beamed with pride. “Come on, Brucie. You’re making me blush!”
The men continued working, patching up the cracks, filling in missing parts, and welding together pipes, falling into a new pattern that they weren’t quite used to. Occasionally they would bump into each other, or pass the wrong tool and would have to correct. These mistakes became rarer as the night went on, and a comfortable silence settled between them.
“I’m just- I don’t know what to say. The boys. After Alicia and her son, we promised it would never happen again. Moved all the way to Amity, filled the bay with equipment, made a fortress out of our house, and then what?”
Brucie looked down. “I’m sorry about your sister-in-law. And I’m sorry I was careless too.”
Jack reared his head up. “What do you have to be sorry for, Brucie?”
“It was very likely my carelessness in visiting Amity Island that provoked the attack on my son, and yours.”
Jack waved them off immediately. Preposterous! “The only fault to be had is Phantom’s. We’ll get our boys back, and make Phantom pay.”
Bruce screwed in the last piece. The fathers backed out of the room, and slid the protective panel back over the engines.
“Danno’s a strong kid. I’m sure your Damian’s a wildfire and a half too. Wherever they are, I’m sure they’ll have each other’s backs.” Jack whispered. He hoped everything he taught his boy would give him a chance, even a sliver.
Brucie nodded. The men shared a look, and shared whatever hope they could carry on this voyage over the ocean.
Secret Origins: Masterlist
Okay, this is your captain Ghost speaking with more updates on this blog! I am slowly figuring out how this works, but I wanted to make a masterlist for the Secret Origins verse!
This is going to be a slow process though it’ll include links to the fanfiction, a potential discord server, lore, and so much more! I haven’t done this kind of thing often, so please bear with me if it isn’t immediately perfect.
Secret Origins is a passion project started by a fan (me!) and is meant to be for other fans. However, I’m the only moderator behind this account which means this is going to be self indulgent! The alternate universe crosses Danny Phantom, American Dragon: Jake Long, Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja, and Miraculous Ladybug into the same world. Following their unexpected encounter, they decide to team up in order to take on bigger threats. However, “Secret Origins” is the prequel to something bigger.
In other words, Secret Origins is almost like MCU where there are mini storylines that weave into a main one! And with that, let’s get right to the fun, yes?
SECRET ORIGINS SYNOPSIS
An unexpected trip to Paris for the Fenton’s causes a chain of reactions no one thought possible. Phantom discovers there are other heroes, and Secret Origins follows how the “Secret Quartet” was formed, consisting of Danny Phantom, Jake Long, Adrien Agreste, and Randy Cunningham. However when they’re confronted with new dangers, well, it’s only a matter of time before trouble follows them as it always. Of course, they’ll also have the rest of their expanding team to back them up.
Secret Origins is inspired off of the alternate universe “Secret Trio” though has its own lore and information.
Are you willing to enter a world beyond your imagination? Only one way to find out…
MAIN CHARACTERS
Randy Cunningham: Randy’s your average, normal teenager… right? Wrong! What Norrisville doesn’t know is that he’s also the current Ninja, and there have been others before him. Though his world is about to get a whole lot bigger.
Danny Phantom: Danny’s life was quite ordinary… at least until an accident in his parents’ basement caused him to become a halfa, an odd phenomena making him half-human, half-ghost. Now, he’s also the hero, Phantom, and is ready to kick butt.
Jake Long: Amidst New York is a hidden protector of the magical world: the American Dragon. For Jake Long, being a shapeshifting teenager is nothing crazy! At least until he ends up pulled into something he never thought possible… and bringing up the rear is…
Adrien Agreste: Adrien Agreste is a boy who seemingly has it all: money, fame, brought up in a rich family but what Paris, France, doesn’t know is that he’s Chat Noir! He’s quite used to the hero life until something opens a new door and who knows what come out of that?
Supporting Characters
Marinette Dupain-Cheng: Marinette is Adrien’s partner-in-heroics. As the current holder of the Ladybug Miraculous, protecting Paris isn’t easy until she meets another hero who comes from another country and well, things won’t be the same.
hi hi! apologies in advance if this is a whole essay (also my dm’s are being weird so that’s why i’m posting this as an ask). but i do have a suggestion for a reaction content creator that could possibly help us gain a lot of traction toward dbda. (i am fully aware that there are other cc’s we’re trying to get the attention of, i just think it would be nice to have more options as well!) her name is ur internet mom ash (youtube) and she has nearly 800k subscribers. i believe that if we can get her to react to the show like we got danny motta to, it would be SUCH a huge help for our show. i just felt like i should let *you* know in particular because you have more of a following than i do and i feel like letting someone with a following know would be a better way to get the message across! thank you for taking the time to read my silly little suggestion lmao have a good day or night!
Please, never apologize for coming to me with an essay in my inbox haha! This was a great idea and I will reach out to her via Twitter DMs! If anyone else wants to reach out, here is her YouTube page!
I have also passed this creator along to the official campaign organizers to possibly add to our fandom-wide contact efforts in the future! It never hurts to reach out to content creators and tell them about our incredible ghost show, so THANK YOU! I appreciate you!
While I'm here I also want to remind everyone that our current "Goal" creators of the month are:
Alex Meyers: comment on his recent community post here and email him at alexmeyerscontact(@)gmail.com
Not-So-Average-Fangirl: comment on her recent community post here. Optionally you can also DM her on Twitter like I did and
ColeyDoesThings: comment on her videos and email her at [email protected]
Be polite, but let them know you'd be interested in them talking about Dead Boy Detectives on their channels! Like other people's comments about the show as well in order to boost them!
We can and we will save Dead Boy Detectives!
I read something and now I’m thinking about Celena getting one of those period simulation devices and testing it out with Deuce. And, with his permission, she makes a video about it and posts it on her MagicTok because it’s really funny to see the difference in reactions between them!
Celena does it first and doesn’t even flinch at the first level. Deuce gets increasingly concerned when he keeps upping the levels and Celena is just being calm. Eventually she does show some discomfort, but Deuce is floored when she says “Well, now it’s up to some mild cramps” as she just takes a breath to help her deal with it. And when it’s at the highest setting, it just looks like Celena is having a slightly above average pain day on her period.
And Deuce is now terrified.
He sits down in the chair, lets Celena get the device set up on him and counts down from three to prep him for the first level. He groans in surprise at the pain of the first level and as Celena ups the levels, it gets worse. At level four, Deuce is swearing worse than a sailor “OH FUCK! FUCKING DAMN IT! GET IT OFF! GET THIS FUCKING TORTURE DEVICE OFF OF ME PLEASE! HOW DO YOU LIVE WITH THIS ABSOLUTE HELL EVERY SINGLE FUCKING MONTH FOR A WEEK??? SHIT, HOW DO WOMEN DO THIS?” as Celena laughs a bit before turning it off and taking it off of Deuce.
After Deuce calms down, he hugs Celena’s waist and lays his head on her abdomen. He already hated her suffering once a month and now he hates it even more because he knows what it feels like to an extent now. He knows he’ll never fully understand, but he does have some sort of idea now.
And he’s left with the question of just how bad childbirth hurts and how his mother was able to do it twice for Deuce and Dannie to exist-
Written Together In The Stars, Before We Were Even Born
Betrothal AU
A long long time ago Time and Light met on the third hour of existence as they know it, and made a deal. They each wanted something from the other, the few sparks greed that Reality had. They could have traded these wants but they both know that the other would try and take the traded things back. So they decided to meet in the middle, Time for saw a few decades when two beings of their own would be the same age and most compatible and they both decided the two would be wed. That way neither would do anything to each other without the risk of endangering their kin. So Time now has infinite knowledge of the past and Light now has infinite knowledge of all future possibilities. Supereons into the future the time had come.
Duke and Danny wake up one morning, just turned 17, to find out they apparently have a fiance who they've never met or heard of before.
Gnomon shows up at Wayne manor during breakfast with the written contract to tell Duke about the betrothal. Duke, who hasn’t seen his bio-dad for almost a year now, is understandably suspicious. But after Gnomon thoroughly explains what’s going on and shows the very old contract, Duke can’t really deny it anymore.
Danny on the other hand was woken up by the contract falling on his head via Clockwork bullshit. His first reaction was to burst into Jazz’s room and scream about it, then Jazz called Sam and Tucker. They all went over the contract multiple times before they decided that Danny at least needed to find his betrothed.
The contract came with only a first name, with a home city written as well, just to make it a little easier for everyone
Danny’s the one who goes out to find Duke
The Batfam end up searching for Danny like the stalkers they are
It gets kinda ridiculous with all the things they find, [does anyone else know about the purple back gorillas Danny saved from extinction?] what with him being Vlad Masters’ godson and apparently almost died when he was fourteen
None of Danny’s pictures look right because of the whole ghostly thing, the ones with him younger are kinda visible if a bit blurry [Jazz & Danny being mildly liminal since birth is a little headcanon of mine]
BUt because they were before puberty and before he started taking testosterone [all i can hear is past pronunciation], those old pics look wildly different from what Danny looks like now
Duke decides to take a break and just go to his favorite bookstore/cafe, he mainly goes there for peace and quiet and to write his stories and poems
The Eclipse is a bookstore/library/lounge combo, with a warm tone dark academia jazz/painter aesthetic
The Eclipse is probs gonna become recurring now that I think about it [Add On: Just finished building it in the Sims this place is staying]
The three floors above ground are the library got little reading nooks, and study areas
The basement is the lounge area with a corner where the owners keep their own things/activities and drink bar on a wall
The owners are twins, Sarah and Edward Sulaiman, Sarah plays string instruments, jazz mainly, Edward paints people, still, and landscapes
It was midday but you wouldn’t be able to tell from the water heavy clouds and smog covering the Gotham sky like a blanket on top of a pillow fort.
A teenage boy walks the streets of Gotham, there’s nothing awfully unusual about that. He’s Filipino, average height a bit on the taller side, muscle hidden under his clothes loose with a visible silhouette. His fluffy black hair bounces with each step and his eyes, they’re a… wrong shade of blue, let's say that. His eyes scan the streets looking for someone he’d never seen before, never even heard of before this morning. He’d been doing so for hours now.
A heavy drop of rain hit the boy square on the top of his head, the boy recoiled into himself like a cat, clutching his wooden staff in surprise. He looks up to the sky, eyes wide as the sky seems to dump an ocean onto the earth.
The boy runs, looking up and down the street for cover, until he sees a store front with a covered porch. Ducking underneath the roof he stares out into the street where the pouring rain curtains everything.
Sighing, the boy turned to the door of the store, looking at the sign all it said was The Eclipse. The water drops from his body like he was never drenched.
Pushing the double door open a soft jingle sounded through the building, he looked around a checkout desk was to his right another kid behind the counter. The two stared at each other before the kid behind the counter set down their book.
“Welcome to The Eclipse bookstore and lounge, the lounge is in the basement, this floor is the bookstore, the two upper floors are a library. Need anything else?”
The boy shook his head, “Nah, I’m good.”
The kid nodded and went back to their book.
The boy decided to just go to the third floor, see what they had. The soft murmurs he could hear coming from the basement gave him enough reason to avoid all the people.
There weren’t many people on the upper floors, just more books and a couple lounge chairs. On the top floor he saw a curtain over an open entrance in the back.
Danny sighed in relief, a small cubby to relax in would be nice. Gliding over feet barely touching the ground as he mimed walking.
He moved aside the yellow curtain with his staff, and came face to face with another boy who had taken over the desk on the opposite wall.
The boy looked up from his papers and turned to Danny. The ghost was taken aback by how pretty the other boy was.
“Oh hey, you can sit here if you want,” The boy said, motioning to the small couch on the far wall.
Danny nodded, and went over to the couch, plopping down, his eyes glanced over to the other boy.
“So um, my names Danny by the way,”
Duke looked over to the cute boy on the couch. He’d come to The Eclipse to escape all the talk about his betrothed, it didn't hurt to talk to someone new, who might share a name with his fiance.
“I’m Duke, are you new to The Eclipse? I’ve never seen you around before.”
Danny nodded, “Just recently got to the city, I’m looking for a- a friend.”
Duke raised an eyebrow, “You don’t sound so sure about that.”
“Well I haven’t met them yet – Danny rubbed the back of his neck – All I got is a name.”
Danny blinked then looked at Duke with eyes wide, “You two actually have the same name.”
The two starred, and Duke got a sinking feeling that they were looking for each other.
Duke groaned, leaning back in his chair, “Daniel right?”
Danny nodded, still staring wide eyed, “Daniel Fenton-Phantom.”
He stood up walking over to Danny and sitting down next to him, the other pulled in his legs staring at Duke.
“Duke Thomas-Wayne,” He offered up his hand, Danny shook it.
“So we’re betrothed,” Danny said kinda breathless.
“Yeah, it seems so,” Duke said, looking to the ceiling.
They sat there, almost shoulder to shoulder.
“Twenty questions?” Danny asked.
Duke looked at him again, “Yeah sure why not.”
They chat for a bit, just talking getting to know each other
They get along swimmingly, and Duke says Danny could come with him to Wayne Manor latter to meet his family
Danny invites Duke to come over to Amity and met his sister and friends
The small room on top of The Eclipse, Bookstore and Lounge, has a few tall bookshelves, a couch on the far wall and a desk opposite to the entrance.
Today its giant bay window, by the couch, is being hit by heavy drops or rain, the room lit by a soft yellow light from a simple chandelier on the ceiling. A couple paintings made by one of the owners.
Blankets kept under the couch that had been pulled out and draped over the sleeping boy. Books pulled off the shelves and opened on the desk presented to the boy writing in his many notebooks and papers.
It was quiet with only white noise, it was nice, familiar even.
Two being too big to be perceived by the mortal mind, watched with fond emotions as their plans fell into perfect place.
Gnomon and Bruce end up going out to look for Duke at The Eclipse
I don’t know these two relationship but I’m getting reluctant co-parents with benefits, so ya know
Anyway they end up finding Duke, who’s fallen asleep
Danny had woken up at some point and moved Duke to the couch and gave him a blanket, Danny himself is on the floor asleep leaning on the couch
The dads coo over their boy a bit cause this is adorable
When Gnomon gets closer Danny’s ghost sense goes off and is immediately on his feet and guarding Duke, who’s starting to wake up
Bruce and Gnomon blinked at the teenage boy brandishing his staff at them, standing protectively in front of their son.
Bruce takes a tentative step forward, the boy immediately turns his staff to the man.
“Stay back,” He growled.
Gnomon raised an eyebrow, and Bruce frowned at the kid. But neither moved
Duke groaned, waking up slowly taking in the scene around him, before quickly sitting up, “B, Uba? What are you doing here?”
The boy looked between the fathers and their son.
“You know them?” He asked.
Duke stood up, “Yeah they’re my dads.”
Both men would deny that they preened from the title their child had given them.
“Oh – The boy’s face fell and he immediately pulled into himself, awkwardly shuffled to Duke’s side – Sorry about that Sirs.”
“No need to worry, your worry for Duke is understandable,” Bruce said, smiling softly.
Gnomon nodded, “But we must ask, who are you child?”
Duke and the boy shared a glance.
The boy stepped forward, reaching out a hand, “Daniel Fenton-Phantom, Duke’s betrothed.”
THE HUMOR PARADOX OF HELLUVA BOSS
So I had Danny Motta’s reactions to Helluva Boss on in the background yesterday while painting my bedroom, and then this morning YouTube recommended a livestream he did where he basically talks through Blitz and Stolas’s relationship and their respective faults and individual contributions to their falling out. In his first watch, Danny was heavily Team Stolas, so it’s fun to watch him walk back some of his first impressions by listening to other fans’ interpretations and rewatching crucial scenes.
I’m not finished watching it yet, but as I was scrolling through the comments, two in particular finally crystallized something for me that I’ve been struggling to wrap my head around and put into words for weeks.
[I just noticed the dialogue I happened to screenshot. I love this show. :’)]
Helluva Boss feels like a cheeky test of media literacy, because it simultaneously tempts you to take nothing seriously while hooking your empathy strings around characters who are multifaceted enough to earn your sincere investment. It’s an animated sitcom set in Hell, but like a lot of good sitcoms, it has enough depth that you care very deeply about its characters. It’s just that while some sitcoms’ comedy is only a little bit absurd, Helluva Boss takes it to eleven. The emotional slingshot from a mafia boss displaying a retractable wall of brightly colored dildos for his perplexed son to Blitz drunkenly asking his adopted daughter not to let him die alone is, y’know. Asking a pinch more of the audience than the average sitcom would.
That’s why I’ve been enjoying exploring the fandom so much! That wild tonal ricocheting resonates differently for everyone, and it’s interesting to see what people are taking seriously and what people are dismissing, because the show flat-out refuses to let you take anything 100% seriously. You have to choose. And I think that’s a really good thing for the fandom, because I feel like if someone ever gets too heated arguing their point, some absurd aspect of the show will pop up and boop their nose with a purple dragon dildo.
I like it here. :’)
Static Downpour
fanfiction
ao3
word count: 1106
Danny has a strong fear of lightning. @tourettesdog
this is a no one knows au but i didnt find anywhere to put that info in the fic
Dash remembered when he and Danny used to be friends.
They were the best of friends. They used to play together all the time. They’d play with legos at Dash’s house, and then they’d build space rockets when they were at Danny’s. They spent so much time together that their parents joked about how they were inseparable.
One of their favorite things they used to do was watch as the thunderstorm clouds would roll in. They liked watching as the sky turned colors and how it got so dark even while it was still the middle of the day. They’d listen to the thunder and try to guess how far away it was when it boomed in the air throughout the city.
But the lightning was their favorite part. They loved watching it shoot down to wherever it would land. The way it would branch out from its main course, covering a good chunk of the sky before it immediately disappeared. They loved all of it. They thought it was so cool.
So what happened to make Danny so afraid of lightning?
They were sitting on the comfy couch in the library. Neither of them wanted to forfeit their half of the couch and so they wordlessly decided to share it. Dash could see Danny watching the rain hit the window quietly. But then Dash saw a flash of lightning out of the corner of his eye.
Danny jumped out of his seat, nearly falling onto the floor. When Dash looked at him in confusion, Danny was holding a hand to his chest, his eyes wide as he stared out the window. He looked like he was pretty close to hyperventilating.
What had happened to make him jump like that? Dash had wondered. There wasn’t anything particularly scary happening right now. Maybe if the wind was going a little faster and the tornado sirens went off, that’d be kind of scary. But today was just an average, ghost free day.
Another flash of lightning lit up the clouds outside and Danny jumped again. He was definitely hyperventilating now.
It must be the lightning, he had thought. But why? What changed about it?
Danny had left after that. Dash didn’t know where he went. Maybe he went to go find a spot to sit in that wasn’t right next to the windows. Or maybe he was cutting school again just like he always seemed to be doing these days.
Dash thought it was his fault. Maybe Danny hated watching thunderstorms now. Maybe it just reminded him of his best friend turned bully.
But that still seemed like it was such a strong reaction, to be so badly afraid of something just because it was associated with someone he didn’t like anymore.
It wasn’t until Dash had seen Phantom one night that he understood.
Phantom was sitting in an alleyway on his own. Dash had stumbled across him just to find the ghost crying on the ground as he tried to nurse his own wound. His head shot up when he heard the sound of gravel under Dash’s shoes, a panicked look in his eyes.
A bright flash lit up the alley and a ring appeared around Phantom’s waist. This wasn’t a move he had ever seen Phantom use before. It wasn’t ever used in battles against the other ghosts. It split just a little bit, revealing a white tshirt between two rings before they melded back to one. Whatever it was, it looked like Phantom was struggling to hold it back. He didn’t want it to happen.
Dash walked further into the alley and knelt on the ground next to Phantom. He told him how he’d do anything to help, whatever he needed.
Phantom’s expression seemed to change. It went from fear to something that looked sort of like resignation and relief. He stopped struggling and finally let the rings pass over him.
Danny Fenton sat there on the ground in front of Dash, holding the wound on his stomach. It started to seep through the white fabric of his tshirt.
He decided right there that it didn’t matter what had happened between him and Danny. Sitting right there in front of him was both his hero and his childhood best friend. He needed help right now and Dash was the only one around to give it.
Dash gingerly picked Danny up and held him to his chest. He was going to take Danny to his house to get him patched up. Dash had a pretty big first aid kit in his room. He should have enough in there to help Danny.
He started jogging down the streets. He didn’t want to run too fast with Danny injured, but he had to hurry. He didn’t know how long it took to bleed out but Danny didn’t seem to be doing too great already.
That was when the first drops of rain started falling. They landed in Dash’s hair and hit him in the face. It helped to cool him down, but it was getting hard to see when it quickly turned into a downpour.
They were almost to Dash’s house when the first bolt of lightning flashed across the sky right above their heads. He could feel Danny jump in his arms even before the thunder boomed in the sky. Danny clutched a hand in the fabric of Dash’s shirt and flinched again when another bolt of lightning appeared.
Dash finally reached his house. He struggled to get his key out of his pocket while holding Danny but finally managed to jab it into the doorknob.
He quietly opened up the door and crept up their stairs, listening to make sure the snoring that came from the living didn’t stop. He made it up to his room and shut the door behind him and locked it. He set Danny down on his bed and pulled the first aid kit out from underneath it.
He started cleaning the wound and applying disinfectant to it. Danny didn’t flinch as he cleaned it, but he did flinch every time a flash of lightning shone through Dash’s curtains.
After wrapping gauze around Danny’s stomach, he sat back and took a deep breath. He was still immensely curious about what happened that made Danny so afraid of lightning. There’d be no better time than now to ask.
“You used to love watching the lightning when we were kids. What happened?”
Danny took a deep breath and held up his hand. The faint remnants of a lichtenberg scar ran from his hand up his arm and under his shirt.
“It’s how I died.”
An Artificial Night Re-Read: Part 1
Hello again! It took me a little longer to get started on this book, but I'm back to re-read An Artificial Night. I'm *very* excited for this book; this was the one that made me a ride-or-die reader of the series, so I'm interested in seeing what I can pick up from it now that we know about the series. Please feel free to discuss things with me! It makes everything much more fun.
Chapter One:
Is Dame Altair ever mentioned again? I don't think so.
This might be one of my favourite openings. Low stakes job! Danny's trying to get Toby to have a life! The Brown kids!
I feel like Danny's reaction to the Barghests being 'awww! This thing that kill people a dozen different ways is so cute!' and to adopt them all demonstrates the biggest reason why Toby and Danny are such good friends.
We get an April mention! It's nice to see her enjoying herself, even (especially?) if its' at Toby's expense.
'I don't know. How about you call that King of Cats guy I used to see you with?' How often did Tybalt follow her around, even when they 'hated' each other, that Danny knew him? I don't think they met each other in the first book, and they didn't see each other at all in the second.
Do we know what age fae children typically start going to mortal school? Toby mentions that the only Brown kid that's currently living on a mortal schedule is Cassandra. Karen's eleven, so she should have control over her magic by now, so it's not learning how to hold illusions that means that hey can go to school. Do they just go for high school? Or is it just the nobility that sends their kids for a few years of mortal school?
I *love* that the Brown kids call Toby Aunt Birdie. And the Brown kids love her soooooo muuuuuuch.
'If I'd been juggling that many kids, I would have demanded whiskey and duct tape instead of offering them things bound to make them even more hyperactive.' Says the woman who's house is going to be a second home for, like, half a dozen kids? And I'm pretty sure routinely hosts pizza nights? Although maybe she thinks it's different 'cause all of her kids are teenagers.
Here's a mention of how little Stacy's aging and how much all of the kids look like her.
Andy's cake sounds amazing; I want Kerry to make me a cake with sugar dinosaurs.
Chapter Two:
Poor Spike; the cats are always ganging up on him. You would think the fact that he has *thorns* would make him a little harder to bully, but smaller animals seem to have a knack for intimidating animals who should definitely be able to handle them.
Re-reading has definitely made me feel much worse for Rayseline and Connor. Rayseline's nature was literally fighting itself, and she wasn't getting anywhere near enough support for what she'd gone through. And it was very unfair to expect Connor to be able to 'fix' her when he barely had any support of his own. I don't know if they would've been capable of being friends if Rayseline hadn't been tearing herself apart, but I'm sad that they never had the chance to try.
May's here!!!! Yayyyyyyyyy!!!!!
So here, May's says that the reason she's here is because Toby's going to die soon. In later books, Toby says that Fetches aren't *actually* portents of death, it's just that the people who'd create Fetches tend to be the type of people who have short lifespans (correlation does not equal causation). Wouldn't the Fetches themselves know that? Or does it normally work like that and it's just that Toby's an unusual case?
I am veeeeeeeeery curious about where Toby's met a Fetch before.
Has anyone ever written a fic of May trying things out and figuring out what she likes? I think that would be interesting to explore.
'Fragments of plate crunched underfoot, cutting my feet. I didn't care. It didn't matter. When you're waiting to die, you have bigger things to worry about than a little bit of blood.' I cannot believe I didn't pick up that Toby's pain tolerance/healing abilities were above average. Who just walks over *shattered plates* and is? Fine??
Chapter Three:
We're already getting into the quest and Toby a) hasn't slept enough and b) hasn't eaten enough. This isn't a great start for her this book.
Karen, Jessica, and Andrew were very lucky that Blind Michael didn't realize that they were Titania's children. It's interesting to think about how Titania would've reacted if she'd known who she was - I can't decide if she'd take it as an opportunity to get rid of them or be deeply insulted that a son of Maeve would Dare steal *her* children and just raze everything to the ground.
Spike reacting so strongly because he was created from a Blodynbryd is a neat detail I didn't pick up the first time.
Oh, poor Mitch. His kids keep getting sucked into things much bigger than them, and he can't do anything but watch.
That's it for now! As always, please come and discuss things with me!
meta about the tcm game friend group????? yeah!
maria: it is my opinion that leland was really close w maria. i think she was probably the first of the group he met, along w julie and danny? it was his first year in college and he was probably doing way too much initially to try to fit in among the frat boys and w/e, but maria was someone genuine and i think that drew him to her. he loved maria a lot, they had a lot of personal values in common. and i think she impacted his overall view of the world, in that she saw beauty in everything and was just a very open and kind soul. being friends with her probably taught him how to slow down a little bit and appreciate the things that captured her love and interest in photography, like sunsets and flower fields and candids of their friends. and i think about how explosive his reaction was to finding her body at the slaughter house. like, for him it was sort of like... if someone like that could be taken away so cruelly and without reason then like what kind of god would allow that to happen? it drove such an emotional spike in him for a long time, he was just angry and sad and didn't know what to do with that. but, thinking about her very nature and how she saw things probably also helped him heal from the grief of losing her and what happened to them all at that house.
sonny: i think them being besties is so charming to me because it's just so jock nerd archetype it is a wonder that sonny puts up w leland's affectionate one braincell self. and yet... anyway i feel like they either roomed together first year or they met through maria but you already know that sonny is The reason leland isn't failing his courses and leland knows it. i think what leland loves about sonny is that he's so earnest in his interests and how observant he is, noticing things that the average person simply wouldn't. leland just thinks he's neat. and like, he's kind and reliable. even if sonny was scared or had his doubts about going out to find maria, he didn't say no. leland has brawn and courage but he always looks to sonny when there's a choice to be made because he just sincerely trusts his judgement. and though leland will tease him like zzzz nerd shit be so serious bro could listen to sonny talk at him about nerd shit forever because he loves him. anyway if anyone ever steps to sonny while leland's around it's so over for them. that's my emotional support nerd? if anything ever happened to sonny i'd kill everyone in this room etc?
connie: i think danny and julie maybe introduced these two at a party or smth but connie and him got off on the wrong foot for the first little while because he wasn't beating the dumb jock allegations. honestly she was so mean pretty girl from out of state that leland liked her immediately but it was simply not mutual. him, affectionate: ice princess. but anyway she shot him down and humbled him pretty immediately and he was like yeah fair enough! have a great day! anyway somehow he grew on her like some kind of moss and they became pretty inseparable once she figured out he's just dumb (affectionate, unthreatening). he knows she can handle herself but also he steps to any dudes that bother her too much or make dumbass comments. they r each others rocks they both do the 'hiding our emotions to be a source of stability for others' but she's definitely seen his most raw emotional side. he also often looks to her for like... a realistic and honest take on a given situation, because he knows she won't sugarcoat things that he needs to hear. idk he loves her a lot, like he'd listen to her talk about w/e just like very fondly. and appreciates that girl who does not show affection will be affectionate w him u know???
julie: so i think julie and him got along pretty quickly, and she was maybe one of the first of the friend group he met? they're sharing a jock braincell and their vibes are simply on similar wavelengths and honestly i feel like he looks up to her a lot? she's just so cool california girl like she might as well be a hollywood star already. he probably goes to her for advice, and also when he's being vaguely whiny and pathetic. but anyway i can see them being chaotic to deal with in any party game scenario, the dual jock energy is too powerful in any scenario tbh. and while i think julie thinks a little more than he does before jumping, they're kind of the first people to jump in feet first. esp if they were both close to maria. leland's like well if julie's going i'm going. leland really resonates with and appreciates her loyalty and bravery for the people around her, she's someone that probably holds the group together as one of their pillars? that's how he sees her anyway! her presence is an immediate morale boost for him, even and especially in the situation they find themselves in later. trusts her loves her would be there for her no matter what, knows she has his back!
danny: danny is probably someone leland was introduced to through julie and maria, and probably wasn't the type of person leland ever hung out with in like, highschool. obviously danny had a tough upbringing and was kind of other side of the tracks from him, but he also seemed like a very down to earth easy going person so i feel like leland would have at least on his end gotten along with danny quickly. he's just your local chill stoner van vibes type dude how can you not like him. i think they probably share a braincell sometimes like i think they're funny and encourage each other's nonsense. they are giving me vibes of bros who u find passed out cuddling or half sprawled on each other after the party just bro things. but like w/ julie leland appreciates danny's ride or die loyalty like i feel like he was probably also easy to convince to go find maria, since his summary mentions how close he was with her. supposedly also a tough kid so u know, leland and danny handshake emoji protect our friends boys???
ana: idk if any of the friends would have known ana but leland definitely heard about her from maria, and knew how much maria cared about her little sister. i think that immediately upon meeting her, he quickly likes her because of course, she reminds him of one of his closest friends. he's kind of like... in awe and humbled a bit by her determination to find her sister, taking it into her own hands to form a search party. so, whatever his reservations are about anything, there's no shot he could have told her no. i think as they go on the roadtrip, he feels for her being like, an outsider to their group, and kind of does his best to make her feel welcome with them. bring her spirits up a little bit etc. i think he also feels very responsible in particular for keeping her safe, for maria's sake, and then ofc a responsibility to ana to find maria, because he knows their family has been through a lot already. idk, she's brave and resilient and he respects her a lot!
#leland about his friends: you guys are all smarter than me and i think that's so neat#( ☆ ) ⸻ MIDNIGHT / study.
Alright, despite a long wait here is chapter 3 of TWOAE. This one is a mix of comedy and angst, plus sibling bickering, and a first interaction between the enigmatic Seraph and Stiles.
-Also, I have an AO3 account named Kingofangst_14 and while I do have another teen wolf fanfic posted there, I am putting that one on hold and revamped since I feel that it needs to be better. But this Teen Wolf Fanfic will be my main focus. Enjoy this witty chapter. @rhyslahey @thiamsxbitch @bendystrah @isaac-not-isaac @amatchinwater @phantomraeken
The italics are Seraph’s thoughts whether they are after someone's response or when he is having an internal monologue.
The Wings Of An Enigmatic
Chapter 3: Non-Supernatural Threat
Seraph’s sleep schedule was off today. Throughout his life, he never had an off sleep schedule. Despite having no purplish bags under his eyes thanks to his supernatural status, he still felt very exhausted by last night’s events, or rather what the nature of his precognitive abilities showed him last night.
The Alpha killing the movie store clerk, along with exposing Jackson and Lydia to the supernatural partially, left them both emotionally and psychologically scarred.
It is a prominent reaction when one is exposed to the supernatural but not fully knowing the entire details of how such bizarre phenomenon happens, especially when all their lives humans are expected to do things in life: completing school, finding the career path they want, and completing their lives. Process of growth.
To encounter a supernatural alpha werewolf as part of their teenage endeavors as high school students? Not part of the life process. Not part of a human’s life process of growth.
Which is why when Seraph enters school for class, it is an odd feeling due to Lydia's absence. The queen bee is usually attending school everyday, signifying her perfect attendance. But the events of last night must have left Lydia paranoid.
Then again, why should he care? It's not his business nor problem, just as it isn't his problem when he witnessed Allison and Scott leave school to celebrate her birthday in the preserve.
Yes, he witnessed the two lovebirds enact a plan to skip school for the day due to it being Allison's birthday. He overheard the Argent heiress' quiet declaration of turning 17, along with and her insistence of not wanting anyone to know about her birthday in fear of backlash from her classmates regarding her age to be older than the typical sophomore. Which isn’t a problem nor a negative term since Stilinski is turning 17 in a few months as well, resolving the age problem.
Sadly, humans tend to have such a negative aspect on each other due to their pessimistic outlook in life and the envy of others. I am exhilarated that I am not human and I don’t have the lenses of a human being to view certain circumstances as such.
Poetic Love. But undisciplined. The parallel to Romeo and Juliet.
Seraph is beside Danny doing an assignment specified from his Chemistry textbook and demonstrating his work and problem solving skills of the questions.
"Just a friendly reminder, Parent Teacher conferences are tonight. Students below a C average are required to attend. I won't name you because the shame and self-disgust should be more than enough punishment." Mr. Harris speaks to the class walking through the aisles of desks.
Luckily for me my grade is an A+, therefore such requirements aren't necessary. But for the thrill of it, I want to attend the conference so I can witness and enjoy the reactions of the parents who find out their students have D and F averages.
"Has anyone seen Scott McCall?" Mr. Harris questions, before looking at Stiles with an accusatory look as if the neurodivergent knows where he is.
It is a crime that Mieczyslaw doesn't even know, but then again Scott isn't entitled to tell his best friend every single aspect of their lives and decisions, and I believe that applies to Mieczyslaw too. I hope.
As Mr. Harris’s inquiry of Scott's whereabouts are met with silence, the classroom door opens, revealing Jackson with an aura of dread, anxiety and fear is felt by Seraph. Said male has a scowl on his face while making his way to his seat but that is a mere facade the popular student puts up to hide his exhaustion and fear.
"Jackson," He hears Mr.Harris call out to the other student. "If you need to leave early for any reason, let me know." Seraph raises his eyebrows slightly.
Wow, I am so touched by the generosity Mr.Harris offered to Jackson due to his encounter with the unknown Alpha. He would never do that to anyone else in this school. Bravo, Mr.Harris. BRAVO.
“Everyone, start reading chapter 9. Mr. Stilinski,” Mr.Harris calls out firmly, “try putting the highlighter down between paragraphs. It’s Chemistry, not a coloring book.”
Mr.Harris’s admonishing tone made Seraph simply roll his eyes. He hears Stiles blow out the cap from his mouth and catch it with his hands. Seraph once again regains his focus while reading chapter 9, until he hears Stiles' quiet voice interrupt his peaceful atmosphere.
“Danny, can I ask you a question?”
“No.” Danny’s terse response made Seraph smirk. Regardless of what class Danny has with him, Seraph finds it amusing how cordial yet curt Danny can be.
“Well I’m going to anyway,” Stiles flatly states head-on. Of course that wouldn’t stop Stilinski, known for his inquisitive nature and wittiness. “Um, did Lydia show up in your homeroom today?” Um, is he freaking kidding me?
Danny huffs out a sigh, keeping his composure. “No.”
“Can I ask you another question?” Stiles inquires again, to Seraph’s disdain.
“Answer is still no.” Danny curtly declines, trying to focus on his work.
“Does anyone know what happened with Jackson last night?” The Sheriff’s son’s question makes Danny pause. Seraph, while reading, is also listening in. He is the only one pretty aware what happened to Jackson and Lydia last night thanks to his precognitive abilities he forgets to simply turn off.
“He wouldn’t…tell me.” Danny hesitantly answers, and Seraph can hear the waiver of his tone despite the lacrosse goalie’s calmness.
“But he’s your best friend.” Best friends aren’t entitled to tell best friends anything if they’ve experienced something completely traumatic, like encountering a supernatural werewolf where Jackson is unable to explain due to how bizarre and unbelievable it’ll sound.
Seraph sighs through his nose at how Stiles implies the statement. As much as Seraph dislikes Jackson, he respects the lacrosse captain’s privacy and gives a hint of sympathy for the chaotic endeavor Jackson and Lydia had to go through.
“One more question.” He hears Stiles ask Danny once more. This time Danny is agitated by being disturbed.
“What!?” Danny’s agitation reaches his limit and he can feel the teen’s annoyance surrounding him, along with Jackson’s dread and fear from the events of last night.
“Do you find me attractive?” That made Seraph and Danny pause simultaneously in bewilderment. Seraph glances to the neurodivergent behind him with raised eyebrows as Danny is just beyond baffled at the question.
“Wow Stilinski, I am astounded by such discovery. While I applaud your boldness to ask such an unclear interrogative riddle to Mahealani, it is an abnormal timeframe for you to question your sexuality and assume you are attractive.” Seraph cleverly retorts. Stiles stammers at Seraph’s response before facing him.
But to be honest, despite his disdain, Stilinski is attractive. If had to rate him between 1 to 10, it'd be a 7. Whereas Danny is a 9.5, Allison is a 9.5 and Scott is a 9. Yes he is aware of his bisexuality.
“I wanted to know if I was attracted to gay guys and I asked him, not you. Is your name Danny?” Stiles counteracts bluntly.
“Your voice is disturbing my presence as well as Danny’s as we are trying to concentrate on our assignments and reading.” Seraph diplomatically responds evading Stiles’ rudeness.
“You were literally ignoring me a few moments ago and suddenly you have the audacity to say something about my questions? You should invest in earplugs then if talking so much as bothers you.” Stiles coldly implies in witty fashion.
Oh two can play at that game, Stilinski. You’ve just met your match.
“Oh I profusely apologize, for the lack of politeness I have to your insignificant question that somehow becomes the puzzle of the day. I also sincerely apologize for being a rude classmate who has to stand by and listen to your nonsensical rambling that annoys your fellow peers. Do you need me to check you out for a psychiatrist in regards to your neurotic confusion? Or perhaps a stomatologist for your endless and unamusing questions? ” Seraph disparages with a wry smirk.
“Are you trying to be funny or are you trying to be a dick, Kingfisher?” Stiles snarks. Seraph shouldn’t be enjoying this but for some reason, he finds entertainment in Stilinski’s boldness and agitation.
“I don’t know, maybe both. Or maybe I would like for you to stop asking your inconceivable questions that tend to be a disruption to my work. As for your Interpellation, try unambiguously experimenting with other males and see if you are attracted to them.” Seraph quips before going back to his textbook. Danny just stares with shock at Seraph’s words while Stiles musters his dirtiest look at the enigmatic teen.
“You are a cruel person, Seraph.” Danny murmurs in befuddlement.
“It’s my default setting, a token of my charm.” Seraph adds wryly as he continues to read through his textbook. Class continues as usual, with the addition of Stiles’ repressed anger. The Sheriff’s son had it coming.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Parent teacher conferences were here and while he didn’t have to attend due to all of his classes being A+, he wants to view the thrill of parents scolding their teenage children for the below average grade requirements that’s expected of them.
Seraph watches in silent amusement at a parent scolding their son for a F grade in economics, and again as a father is not happy with his daughter’s C- for a mathematics class. Then again, C- isn’t that bad in average standards so he doesn’t understand why this particular father was upset. But then again, it isn’t his problem.
As he walks with his mother and younger sister in tow, they head to the first class to meet his teacher, which happens to be Coach Finstock with Economics.
“So mom, ready for this?” Seraph inquires knowingly as he steps beside the door of the class with a smug expression.
“In all my life that I’ve attended you and your sister’s parent teacher conferences, I already know what I am going to hear so I am not going to be surprised. Literally, both of you never had below an A-, which raises concerns for me as I hope you aren’t straining yourselves for perfection.” Elizabeth implies dryly.
“Sorry mom, it’s part of the–”
“--Family genes.” Seraph and Celes address concurrently with feigning innocent smiles. Their mother rolls her eyes in amusement before waving her hand in the direction of Seraph's classroom.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
“I never had an issue with Mr. Kingfisher here. In fact he is basically the best student I could ever ask for!” Coach Finstock exclaims. “Hands in all of his assignments, no questions asked, perfect attendance, very disciplined, he is just…phenomenal. Better than myself back in high school in English when I bombed over a research paper, or these rambunctious knuckle heads I have as students!”
The Coach’s eccentric behavior and wording makes Elizabeth just blink owlishly, nodding at his words. Seraph sports an amused glance between his mom and his economics teacher while Celes is…simply on her phone not caring.
“Right. So, just how exceptionally good is Seraph in all of his class assignments and milestones?” Elizabeth asks, clearing her throat.
“Like an angel. In fact I have one of his most treasured assignments I will forever use as an example for the rest of my teaching career.” Finstock declares before opening his drawer and pulls out Seraph’s folder and takes out a 16 page economics paper.
“This is Seraph’s economic research paper he did over the break and let me tell you, it blew my mind at how he was able to write about the 2009 recession and goes in full detail and description of the affects, the damages, the cause of it, a counterargument, even numerous evidence pieces from several citations and articles regarding this.” Finstock shows to the Kingfisher trio.
“Well I always had a cynical approach for the recession and how it was caused by undermining events.” Seraph points out while looking at his clean and manicured nails.
“You see!? Your son is a force to be reckoned with! That's why he has a 100 in my class!” Coach Finstock proudly proclaims. Elizabeth didn’t know what to acknowledge: her son’s teacher’s comments about how impressive he is, or the odd but hyperactive behavior of the coach.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
“It’s a pleasure to finally meet you, Mrs. Kingfisher. I must say you have a remarkable son with astonishing talents and intelligence.” Ms. Cavendish of his classical literature class compliments while shaking his mother’s hand.
“I appreciate the praise, Ms.Cavendish.” Seraph comments while taking a seat. His sister rolls her eyes at his bespectacled nature. Ironic how he uses his glasses but he has no need for them since his vision, as well as his family’s visions are crystal clear, they can see within a mile radius.
“I can already tell that this review will be satisfactory.” Elizabeth chuckles. Ms.Cavendish nods with a genuine smile while taking out Seraph’s profile folder.
“Let us get started. From the past semester to now that I’ve had with your son, it is anything but bad. Mr.Kingfisher here is advanced and exceptionally intellectual. His keen usage of details, key historical information, his understanding and recognition of political and social philosophy, and his understanding of Greek and Roman Renaissances capitalize his value in this class. He receives As in his assignments and homeworks. He even managed to complete a presentation of epistemology within Ancient Greece and how the “Theory of Forms” by Plato, which is ingrained in the philosophical foundation for knowledge and philosophy within Ancient Greece and how it affects European and American societies in the present.”
Elizabeth nods in acknowledgement. Seraph notices that this presentation he made was a little after the paper on how Romeo and Juliet was a tragedy and the negative impact it has on love and romance.
“I found this presentation very astonishing that I graded a 100 on this assignment, which bumps his grade up to a 100 in my class.” Seraph’s heart skipped a beat, literally.
“Pardon me but did I just hear that correctly?” Seraph questions his teacher while she smiles, with his mother very amused while Celes makes a flat expression at this new information.
“That’s right. Your grade is now a 100 in my class, Mr. Kingfisher and the only 100 out of my students.” Ms.Cavendish restates him and his family. Seraph’s lips curve slightly upwards. FINALLY. This class I have a 100 on and I am feeling over the moon.
“Oh brother.” His sister comments wryly.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
“Pleasure to meet you, Mrs.Kingfisher. I am surprised to see you come along Seraph considering your extraordinary grade average.” Mr.Harris speaks, as Seraph and his mom take a seat on the stools. Celes, for the first time since she arrived at the school, actually takes out a chemistry textbook and sits on a desk to read it.
“I am participating in this event just to accompany my mother and sister.” Seraph implements, cleaning his glasses.
“You could have accompanied Grandma at home, plus our butler is there too.” Celes adds slyly. Seraph rolls his eyes.
“I didn’t want to disturb her while she is gracefully strumming the keyboards of the piano at home, and our butler is preparing large dinner and dessert platters since dad won’t be home until 8pm.” He says covertly and as a matter-of-fact. Elizabeth glances at her children with a subtle vexation in her eyes before looking back at the Chemistry teacher.
“Alright then,” Mr.Harris shakes off the baffled look between the two Kingfisher siblings before making contact with Elizabeth’s eyes. “Your son is honestly one of the very few students I have no challenges with at all. He completes his assignments on time, he finishes his classwork within a class period’s time frame, actualized a few Chemistry projects and laboratory works including an acid-base titration project he formulated and hypothesized a reaction of the chemicals and how the neutralization affects the flow of acids.”
“I can concur with that, as my son here has some equipment he bought from the California Institute of Technology and used for his own projects. One of them was a project called Electrochemical Cell Project. In basic terminology of a breakdown, he demonstrated the principles of redox reactions and generating electrical energy.” Elizabeth explains and recounts the time Seraph did start that project. Seraph watches amusedly as Mr.Harris’ face is a mixture of impression and intrigued.
“That’s quite commendable of him to do and to immerse himself into. To categorize and construct a complicated project within the confines of your home and successfully finish it and have a well advanced understanding of it, enthralls me.” Mr.Harris relays. “Perhaps you can demonstrate one for the class if you are comfortable with it.”
A determined glint shines in Seraph’s gray eyes. “Certainly Mr.Harris, I’d be delighted to provide a replica of the aforementioned project.” If you are willing to add it to my grade for a 100 for this kind of assignment. Seraph thought bitterly, his mind fervent to prove a validated point of his intelligence.
“How completely and utterly unsurprising.” Celes murmurs into her sleeve disguising it as a cough so that only Seraph and their mother can hear it. The dark academia teen knew his sister read his mind from that snarky phrase.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
They finish with the rest of Seraph’s classes before walking out in the hallway. Elizabeth of course remains detached from her children as she assesses the school and her environment around them. Celes is on her phone looking through her feed seeing Lydia’s updates on social media, while Seraph has a scowl plastered on his face. He was just fine a minute ago, until he overheard a conversation between Lydia’s parents and one of said girl’s teacher about how her IQ is the highest in this school. His rival’s gpa is exceedingly high, at a 5.0, where he’s at a 4.7 grade point average.
“Why the long face, Raph? You now have 100s in five of your classes, what more do you want, a Nobel Peace Prize?” Celes jests as she glances at Seraph’s scowl. Before she could read his mind, he let out a scoff.
“My academic rival is 3 points above my gpa. She’s now a 5.0 while I have to catch up, otherwise I will never hear the end of it from her if she were to ever find out.” He sibilates, then scoffs as he can hear Lydia’s teasing and covert remarks in his head.
“Oh boy, here we go. I am Seraph and I am sorry that people are jealous of me…but I can’t help it that I’m so intelligent.” Celes mocks, despite the voice portrayal of her older brother being very off. Seraph turns his head at her with irritation.
“Hé, sois tranquille avant de dormir sur la chaise!”
“No, ti taro gettare sulla chaise!”
“Je t’emmerde!” “Fanculo!”
“Stop. Language both of you,” Elizabeth turns around to face them with narrowed eyes. “Stop your shenanigans and comply with each other so we can get home and eat ham or salmon with quinoa, macaroni and cheese, vegetables, biscuits, and tiramisu or blueberry pie.” Their mother tiredly explains.
“As long as there is no asparagus, then I am fine with proceeding for dinner.” Seraph informs, but he catches Celes mock him.
“Celes, stop.” Elizabeth warns, making the girl cease her actions for good. “No, there is no asparagus for dinner. Now come.” The trio walked further down the hall and joined the line of parents walking to reach the double set of school doors. The moment they stepped out, they breathed in the cool winter air of the night. They are glad that they are immune to cold weather and winter in general due to their fiery body temperatures not being able to feel any draft of cool air as they provide excess body heat. They don’t even need to wear coats, but for the sake of concealing their supernatural identities, they have to wear what humans are required to wear. Much to their dismay as the more layers added on, the more heat builds up.
“Allison, answering your cell phone will make discussing the terms of your grounding easier,” a familiar voice speaks behind the trio, making them alert. “Either call me back before your punishment reaches biblical proportions.” Seraph knows the owner of the voice and the repressed angry aura, belonging to Chris Argent. He also felt the other aura, belonging to Victoria Argent. Wie Wunderbar, the matriarch and heir of the Argents are behind him and his mother and sister. Raio!
“Kate hasn’t heard from her either.” The Trio hear Victoria say worriedly, but they move to the side as a familiar presence moves up the stairs. Seraph glances and he sees Melissa McCall, the nurse at Beacon Hills Memorial Hospital and mother of Scott, walking up to what he can visualize as confronting the parents of Allison.
“Excuse me, you’re not Allison’s parents are you? I’m Scott’s mom and I hate to say it but he’s not answering his phone either.” Oh god. This isn’t going to end well.
“You’re his mother?” Chris questions, a tone of bitterness and rudeness laced together. That even made Seraph’s mother wince due to the way it was implicated.
“Funny how you say that like it’s an accusation.” Melissa answers back cautiously. Seraph had to smirk, he gives Scott’s mom respect for being kind yet assertive.
“Well I wouldn’t claim it as a source of pride since he basically kidnapped my daughter today.” Chris replies cuttingly. That is not how you consult with the parent of your daughter’s boyfriend, and technically speaking it was Allison’s idea to cut school, not Scott’s. Every child is not an angel.
“How would we know skipping school wasn’t your daughter’s idea?” Melissa counters back. Bingo. He could feel the shift in frustration to anger in both Chris's and Victoria’s aura as he, his sister and mother reached Elizabeth’s car. But Seraph hears the car door open to his far right on the other side of the parking lot and he sees Allison and Scott come out of her Madza.
“My daughter…!” He hears Chris pause as he notices the two teenagers leave his daughter’s vehicle. His aura drifted back to a calm yet composed anger, mixed with relief. “...Is right there.”
“Where EXACTLY have you been?” Melissa interrogates her son, who was sheepish.
“Nowhere mom—”
“Nowhere meaning not in school!”
“Um– kinda…”
“It’s not his fault. It’s my birthday and we were—”
The sound of a rapid heartbeat and smell of fur made Seraph freeze. His mother and younger sister eyed him weirdly until they caught the scent and rapid heartbeats. Along with the paddling of paws running on the pavement. The shrillhe scream of a woman echoes, alerting the trio and everyone else in the parking lot.
Soon more shouts and screams were heard.The sounds of footsteps ran across the pavement along with an apparent growling.
“Stay in the car, both of you.” Elizabeth asserts, before going off to investigate, not waiting for a response.
“What is she doing?” Celes questions apprehensively. Seraph’s eyes widen when he sees his mother pulls out a AutoMag .44 Magnum pistol from the car trunk and holsters it in her coat. He leaves the car with Celes in tow. Exposing their supernatural side is a dangerous and fatal concept, but trying to investigate and defend as a human?
What is she doing!? She is not supposed to get involved!
The sounds of harsh growling echo in the parking lot along with the swift movements swishing by, giving Seraph a stronger scent. A Mountain Lion’s scent.
“It’s a Mountain Lion that's in the lot.” He relays to Celes. While he’s glad it isn’t the Alpha or something else supernatural, but the idea of his mother hunting it down is preposterous when the Argents are here. Then again, the thought of a wild animal harming someone is gruesome.
A car honking rapidly snaps him out of his search and he watches with shock as a white car is heading straight for Allison without a care in the world.
ALLISON—
“Allison!” Scott’s voice rang in the air as he sprinted towards the girl before the enigmatic watch Scott pulled Allison swiftly to safety just in time before the white car could barrel into any of them. At least he didn’t have to see either of his fellow classmates get severely injured or worse.
“Move! Move!” The voice of the Sheriff authorizes the panicking crowd, trying to find the wild threat lurking within the chaotic scenery. Elizabeth is just running towards an open space when she hears a car shift gears into reverse and the tail-lights turn on.
"LOOK OUT!!!" Shouting loudly and with bated breath, Elizabeth rushes forward to push the human authority figure out of the way just in time, but in doing so the silver car hits her with it's rear, making her fall sideways to the ground.
"MOM!!!" Celes shouts in horror as the two teens witness their mother receive a painful impact from a panicking stranger's vehicle. While their supernatural status would make sudden situations such as getting clipped by a car appear minuscule, the action of seeing their mother receive a whiplashing impact instills horror and fear within them. The two Kingfisher teens rush to their mom’s side while Sheriff Stilinski was appalled and shocked that a civilian, no less Mrs. Kingfisher was the one to push him out of a harmful obstacle but faced them herself.
“Mrs. Kingfisher!? Jesus are you alright?” Sheriff Stilinski asks Trepidatiously while Seraph helps her up slowly.
“Yes I am fine. Just searing pain around my waist and hip bone.” Elizabeth breathes out, her discomfort evident despite the healing factor kicking in, which is thankfully hidden in her attorney attire and trench coat. With icy veiled outrage, Seraph looks at the car plates of the silver car that hit his mother and memorizes the license plate numbers to use for a lawsuit he is going to file later on. Pettiness be damned.
“Mrs. Kingfisher, are you okay!?” The voice of David Whittemore, Elizabeth’s fellow attorney and colleague, calls out in worry. “I just witnessed you were hit by a car and–”
Gunshots ring in the air nearby, cutting off Mr.Whittemore. The trio plus Sheriff Stilinski see Chris Argent with his pistol out as small trails of smoke come out of the gun’s muzzle. The panicked crowd gather around where Chris is at and as the Kingfishers come close to the male with the Sheriff on one side and Allison on the other, they see the corpse of a Mountain Lion, on it’s last breath as the silver bullets from the hunter’s gun made fatal hits. Despite it being a predator, Seraph could only look at it with sympathy and pity as he hears the heartbeat inside the animal fade at each beat before it hastily stops.
In a prey to predator world, sometimes the ones at the higher ends or top of the food chain are also vulnerable to danger and the cycle of life and death. This applies for preys and predators, predators and humans, hunters and werewolves, banshees and dullahans, kitsunes and onis, and even divine beings and eldritch beings.
“Let’s return home.” Elizabeth authorizes, her tone leaving no room for objections. Seraph and Celes follow their mother to her car. Elizabeth has to pretend she is injured from the slight car incident, so that there wouldn’t be suspicion of her healing so quickly, especially in the presence of the Argents.
Seraph still gazes at the scene from the passenger window, eyes not leaving from the scene as he observes and ponders, while the car starts and moves out of the parking lot of cars.
Seraph’s father will not be happy when he hears of this incident when they reach home.
EDIT: So...Seraph and his family...what are they? Plus this will not be the last time Seraph and Stiles interact, albeit not in friendly fashion (at least not yet)
