The first major automobile show held in the United States opened at Madison Square Garden in New York City on November 3, 1900. Admission fifty cents. It ran for a week and attracted over 40,000 attendees. The most popular automobiles were electrics, followed by steamers, and lastly, gasoline-powered vehicles, which were considered to be noisy, dirty, and unreliable.
