i was finally able to afford one of these bad boys and lemme tell you, my injections, which used to take around 5 h (4:30 of which were spent trying to actually poke myself) now only take 10 minutes

not only is the injection itself so painless and easy, i’m not even sore the next day ??? like last time i did a manual injection i was so stressed that i didn’t even do it right, and so I spent 2 weeks in pain lol… but now it’s just?? overnight and done?? like wow

so anyways, if you struggle with IM injections and can afford like 100 quid i definitely recommend this

So the most commonly suggested thing that most people have at home that can be used as a sharps/needle disposal is a laundry detergent bottle

That is what I'm using and it worked fine for the Aimovig injectable I was using for my migraines (which either did nothing or made me worse)

Unfortunately, because of the failure of the Aimovig we decided to switch me to Emgality which I did for the first time last night, and the first injection is actually done as 2 injections

Unfortunately I went to put these in my laundry detergent/sharps disposal container and low-and-behold the top of the pen (where the needle is) is WAY too big to fit through either hole!

Like what the fuck?

So I'm of course having to stress about what I should do since these are used needles that need to be disposed of but also have the potential to accidentally stick me again

My eventual solution was to tape up the area and smash it with a hammer until it could be dropped in (taping it prevented the needle and the broken plastic from getting everywhere) and like it did work but was WAY too much work and literally makes no sense seeing as even the Emgality website suggests the detergent bottle for sharps disposal and yet their auto-injectors are incredibly difficult to get inside them

A tip for anyone taking Ajovy via auto-injector pen (and probably relevant for other auto-injector medications that have to be refrigerated and then brought to room temperature before injecting):

Once the pen has had a few hours out of the fridge to warm up a bit, hold it against your skin for a couple of minutes before you use it. This’ll make sure the pen is closer to the temperature (of the outside) of your body and it’ll be less of a shock introducing cold liquid into your warm body

I find this makes doing the injections hurt a lot less, especially if the ‘room temperature’ in my room is lower than room temperature is supposed to be

(Note: do not use any active method to warm up your medication as this could denature the medication! For comfortable injection it only needs to be as warm as the surroundings, hence using the surroundings to warm it)

getting hrt through kaiser: Hmm, you’ve been speaking to the gender therapist for six months now, and still don’t think you’re normal cis? Well, we’ll send in another referral for a prescription, hopefully someone responds to this one, but it’ll be the third try, so no guarantee. Also, the pharmacist might not get the memo that it’s covered, so the first month’s copay will be $300, is that ok?

getting hrt through planned parenthood: Christ, you’ve had dysphoria for how long? That suuuucks, I’m so sorry you’re going through that! Well, here’s a script for three months of boy juice, you can pick that up in an hour, also, I heard you mention a needle phobia, so I went and found an auto-injector so small you won’t even see or feel the poke. If your insurance provider gives you any trouble, I will personally burn their house down for you. See you in two weeks for bloodwork, have fun! ^_^

my PA for ajovy got denied (booo) but the reason it did was bc a neurologist needed to prescribe it which i already had an apt set up for and gad yesterday (yay!) and the appointment went really well and i like the provider a LOT of migraine management (YAY!!!) so now i am once again waiting for an ajovy PA to be approved lmao
