Hi anon!! I’m so happy to talk about the love of my life

-the Red Room training was fucked up beyond what I can dive into properly, but one thing they drilled into the Widows was the importance of leaving no trail/trace

-because of that, Yelena was a bit of a clean freak when she first was released from the subjugation. It was something she could control, something that made her calm down and helped her not feel like she was about to be beaten to unconsciousness for disobedience

-meeting Kate was wild in that regard, because this girl is the opposite. Clothes everywhere, dishes piling up, tons and tons of stuff all over shelves and the walls and etc etc etc

-as the Red Room slowly starts to fade further and further behind her, she loosens up a bit and lets herself collect more material items, maybe not make her bed the second she wakes up, leave the dishes for the evening in favor of spending time with her family

-however, no more Red Room influence also lead to her neurodivergent symptoms (symptoms? Traits? You’d think I would know the right word here) becoming a lot more apparent

-No You May Not Touch The Fucking Kitchen I Just Cleaned It And I’ll Scream Kate Bishop I Swear To God

-Kate has ADHD (obvi anyway) and understands the struggle of wanting things clean but also is just terrible at keeping them that way. Even so, she’s happy to try to help Yelena out

-either way! Yelena is getting better at letting things be as they are instead of immediately trying to fix them, which can extend to all areas of life

-aka, letting Kate clean the kitchen when she’s overwhelmed instead of having to do it her way

-or leaving things out at the apartment because she lives there, it’s not a safe house, it’s ok

ANYWAY!! I do have more thoughts about Autistic!Yelena :DD

(I really should be working on inktober rn. But. I am not.)

-I’ve been thinking about marvel characters knowing sign language and obviously we’ve got Clint and the Barton family, and Kate by proxy, but I like the idea of Yelena already knowing it for when she goes nonverbal

-Kate and Clint are talking in sign one time when Clint is having an old man day and needs to just not hear shit, and Yelena suddenly appears and chimes in with her own ASL and Kate and Clint are just like 😟😯😦😧😮

-Kate really wants to figure out why Yelena knows it but at this point she doesn’t know that Yelena is neurodivergent and can’t quite pin it down

-Clint figures her out way quicker than she likes because he sees her having a meltdown one time and recognizes the signs of going nonverbal (Natasha, Lila, Laura maybe? Nate? Bucky? I dunno) and is trying to help and give her ways to respond that are real easy but she whips the ASL out and he puts two and two together

-Fanny is actually an esa/therapy dog and is trained to get Yelena’s meds, water, chewelry, weighted blanket, etc. and make her sit down when she’s having a meltdown and is just generally very helpful because she’s the goodest girl

-idk if I’ve ever talked about what Yelena’s meltdowns/shutdowns look like but they are

Bad

-they start mild, and can be really easy to see coming, especially if there’s obviously already a lot of stimuli, and they can be preventable if someone who knows what they’re doing is there to help her, but more often than not she masks masks masks masks masks until her brain is on fire and she either explodes or goes catatonic and freaks people out

-I’m talking screaming crying wailing throwing up levels of freak out when she’s beyond her breaking point and something small happens that finally just makes her snap

-holding her down only makes her panic more but sometimes her flailing and disorientation become an actual risk and she needs to not

-or her eyes are glassy and her jaw is either clenched or slack and she just sits/lays there entirely unresponsive for a HOT minute and all anyone can do is get Fanny and make sure she’s positioned safely and in a secure place

-sometimes she just needs to lay on the floor for half an hour until The Feeling goes away

-it’s called her floor time and she needs it desperately

-you know exactly what I’m talking about. Don’t pretend otherwise.

Hi anon!! Welcome back <3 thank you so much for the love, this girl means so much to me and I’m glad she’s important to others, too. Life has been stressing me tf OUT recently and popping into my inbox to find new asks about Autistic!Yelena and Genderqueer!Kate really helps me feel better for a small time.

Responding with a wall of text is one of my favorite things! And yknow what, here’s some more :)

-I’ve been thinking about just a soft day with Autistic!Yelena recently

-there’s no plans, there’s no stress, no pressure, no expectations

-she sleeps in until like 10, which is insane for her. Kate wakes up before her even, even more unheard of- she’s quiet and soft when she gets out of bed, just kissing Yelena’s nose and then going to the kitchen to make breakfast

-their missions have been more and more demanding recently, and Yelena’s been masking harder than usual in order to cope with it. Buuuut, one problem… the harder the mask, the harder the crash

-so yeah. She crashes.

-she’s kinda just all fuzzy brained the whole day, and for the first couple hours of being awake, speaking is an absolute no. Kate has been helping her learn ASL, and she prefers to communicate that way when she goes nonverbal, so their conversation over breakfast is the occasional sleepy hand motion

-miss girl needs to sleep a lot, but she’s horrible at naps. When her brain is taking a day to recalibrate, that’s when Kate does her best to get her to rest during the regular day time hours. Usually it takes a hot shower (she hates hot baths and actually prefers ice ones) and some cuddles under a weighted blanket and maybe some doggy pillows and a snack to get her sleepy and calm enough

-I wouldn’t say that Yelena experiences any age regression per se, but she definitely prefers simpler foods that remind her of being a kid again when she’s feeling fuzzy. Macaroni and cheese is already a given, but we’re busting out the dinosaur chicken nuggets and chocolate milk too (also Kate just already has these things stocked up for herself because she’s just like me)

-clothing is important and needs to be paid attention to. In a good headspace, Yelena can usually throw on whatever, because she’s already curated her wardrobe to always be comfortable. No tags, to bumpy seams, certain textures completely removed, etc. That being said, sometimes her skin feels like it’s literally on fire, and honestly it would feel better to go completely naked if she couldn’t feel the ac and the sun on her skin. Kate helps her pick out something really simple and loose, and Yelena steals a pair of her boxers, because she absolutely adores how soft they are, even if they’re a little tight on her hips and stomach

-normally she prefers to have her nails painted, but when she’s feeling particularly fuzzy and sensitive, nail polish more often ends up scratched off. Kate finds some cheap nail polish that comes off easily in a color that Yelena only mostly likes so that she won’t feel bad about removing it 30 minutes after it finishes drying. Sometimes she spends a few hours just applying and reapplying it after it flakes away because it gives her brain something to focus on, and is minorly destructive in a fun way that doesn’t hurt anything (Kate always makes sure they have a spa day later that week if they can so that Yelena has a chance to fix her nails back up how she likes them)

-this girl is secretly the BIGGEST fucking cuddler istg. Oh ho ho, you thought Kate was clingy? Wait till Yelena is grumpy and tired and then bam, tiny blonde Russian koala baby

Autistic Yelena Belova is the genuine love of my life and I would do anything for her

Also this was MUCH longer than I thought it would be so I hope that’s your thing lol

-first of all, Yelena has literally no clue what autism is. They were never taught about neurodivergence in the Red Room, because there was no point. Each Widow was already tested on their cognitive abilities over and over and over again, with the weak links being weeded out. Yelena got “lucky” in that aspect; she didn’t start showing signs or symptoms until later (which can happen) and would be considered high functioning or even neurotypical when under the Red Room’s control. She unknowingly taught herself how to mask and always blamed the discomfort she felt on the fact that she was in the hell that was the Red Room in the first place.

-the first time she ever mentions something that could be related back to her being autistic, she and Kate are out clothes shopping. She’s already overstimulated from the bright sunlight, the store lights glaring off the floor, and the sounds of people’s shoes clacking, shopping carts creaking, and the children throwing a fit on the other side of the store. She physically recoils away from a jacket after her knuckles brush over it, her face scrunching up and tears welling in her eyes as she desperately shakes her hand out to get the disgusting texture off of her skin. Kate is worried and confused, but once they’ve gotten into the safety of their car with the window shades pulled up and the AC blasting, Yelena is able to explain that the texture felt awful and it felt like her brain was on fire from all the noise (even tho the store was actually relatively quiet). Kate starts putting two and two together after that day but doesn’t say anything for a while.

-when the idea of a diagnosis is brought to her, Yelena literally laughs in Kate and Natasha’s faces. She doesn’t know what the hell they’re talking about, but she’s for damn sure knows that that’s not her. She avoids the topic completely for weeks, changing the subject abruptly, leaving the room, of just full on putting her noise canceling headphones on and blasting her favorite music. That entire time, she is masking HARD, still without even realizing it, because the thought of a medical professional analyzing her is terrifying and just brings her right back to the Red Room. Kate is finally able to get to her one night when she pulls out her laptop and shows Yelena a list of common signs/symptoms of autism, and Yelena reads over them with a blank look on her face. She spends the rest of the night feverishly researching as much as she can about it, and by the morning, she’s a crying, exhausted mess in Kate’s arms.

-when they finally make her an appointment to see a neurologist, Yelena is practically bouncing off the walls with how anxious she is. The wait time is months long, but Natasha pulls some strings and manages to get her scheduled for the next month. Yelena needs a ton of cuddles after that, curling up with Kate on their bed and having the archer rest on top of her so it can feel like her body isn’t trying to escape her.

-the appointment itself goes smoother than she was expecting, but she still doesn’t like it. She’s asked questions and given scenarios to react to, they have her complete all sorts of different kinds of puzzles and equations, but she completes them all beyond easily because her brain was literally rewired to be cognitively brilliant. They don’t really start getting anywhere until the topic of her overstimulation comes up, and from there it pipelines into a conversation about how she hates certain textures, how some foods feel impossible to eat, how she has to complete patterns in her head to feel better, how anxious she gets about small things, how she stims and ticks almost constantly without even realizing, etc etc. She gets the official diagnosis a few weeks later and doesn’t know how to feel, so Kate and Natasha just hold her and they all watch a movie together.

-with Yelena’s stimming, you can bet it’s pretty constant whenever she’s not masking. Stimming is the repetition of certain physical movements or noises to help calm someone down. And seeing as Yelena is who she is, she’s stressed pretty much all the time. Her biggest stim is playing and fidgeting with her rings, but she also taps her fingers together a lot in patterns that she can’t explain, blinks rapidly when it’s bright wherever she is, rubs her thumb over her cheek, presses her hands together tightly and rubs them together, and runs her hands through her hair. She tries to get herself to stop doing those things once she knows what they are, but masking is getting more and more uncomfortable, and she only lasts a few days before she breaks and has a meltdown.

-she ticks when she’s particularly anxious or overstimulated, or when there are sudden unexpected loud noises whenever she’s relaxed and not masking. Ticks are a lot like stims, but are most often involuntary and can’t be controlled unless a lot of effort is put into it. Keeping oneself from ticking can be extremely physically painful, more so than holding back on stimming. Her ticks are usually small- clicking her tongue, making small noises in the back of her throat, tilting her head back and forth, snapping her fingers, etc. With the loud noises or high levels of stress, they turn into full body twitches, which usually renders her entirely nonverbal and prone on the couch or in bed while she shivers and jerks. It freaks Kate out until she understands what’s happening and learns how to help, but only because she’s so worried.

-Yelena finds out that she loves to have something in her mouth, and at first it weirds and freaks her out, but she can’t help herself when Natasha buys her a chewable necklace. She adores the texture on her tongue and how she can sink her teeth into it without it breaking, and she wears it almost constantly, often accessorizing different color pallets of the chewelry with how she dresses. She also likes to chew or suck gently on Kate’s fingers, which usually happens when they’re cuddling or after sex. Kate doesn’t mind, as long as she doesn’t bite too hard, and she makes sure to always have her hands clean whenever they’re together in case Yelena randomly wants to go full puppy on her.

So GP!Kate. Tell us more. Does Yelena tease her? Does Kate like the "teething" requests from Yelena? Has Yelena struggled to walk the next morning?

-Yelena is the biggest fucking tease around, and as much as Kate groans and bemoans about it, they both know she loves it. It’ll be a normal day with normal things, but Yelena will use any and every excuse to rub up agaisnt Kate’s crotch in any capacity. Sometimes it’s genuinely innocent and she’s not trying to tease, but more often than not she’s absolutely fully aware how her girlfriend feels about Yelena’s ass pressed up against her bulge.

-Kate also has extremely sensitive hips, so Yelena’s second best option is to rest her hands on Kate’s waist and slip her fingers under her waistband

-Kate is, of course, a massive fan of Yelena sucking her off, and never says no when Yelena either offers a blow job or expresses the horny desire to have her girlfriend in her mouth. Most often it’s for Yelena’s own pleasure in the first place- she truly just enjoys lavishing Kate with her mouth. Yelena Belova is a fictional character. She does not exist. I do not know all the things about her- I don’t know what her canon sexuality is, or if she’s neurotypical or neurodivergent, or what her aspirations for life are. She isn’t real.

That’s why we have friggin headcannons.

I am on the autistic spectrum. A lot of what I write for autistic!Yelena is based off of my own experiences and the experiences of my friends and family. So many different people all over the world have different ideas and conceptions or misconceptions about autism, neurodivergence, and mental disabilities as a whole. We are never going to get everyone to agree on one thing. That’s just how it is, for anything and everything.

That being said, you are in charge of your own content consumption, and if you decide to come onto my blog and act like a child about something I’ve written or something I care about, I’m not going to just put up with it.
