"The LGB community", "The LGBTQ community", "The gay community", "the queer community", etc...
These phrases are used among conservatives, radical feminists, and trans activists/gender ideologists, and just broader culture alike.
Portraying the homosexual and bisexual population as one "community" is disingenuous, in my opinion. There isn't one, overarching community.
"The woman community"
"The poor community"
"The elder community"
Etc.
It doesn't make much sense, and acts to both politicize and stereotype ("you're all the same"). This choice of words isn't just normalized for homosexual and bisexual populations, but also for people of color, tribal/Indigenous groups, and disabled populations. i.e, "the black community", "the Indigenous community", "the disabled community", "the deaf community", "the autistic community", and so on. It also portrays social cohesion under whatever may be the current mainstream culture or belief systems within these groups, which might not be true but instead driven by broader culture or more privileged individuals.
Lesbians, gay men, and bisexual people are a population or a group, with several communities. Lesbian biker communities, communities of gay musicians, etc.
When we refer to marginalized/oppressed groups as the "XYZ community" and use the word "community" as an umbrella term, as stated above this effectively associates mainstream cultural norms and ideologies existing within these populations as cohesive, accepted by all, and in many ways being what defines them. This is (in part!) why, for example, being unsupportive of BDSM turns into others accusing someone of being homophobic, because they associate the leather and BDSM community with the LGB population, since this community or culture is what is currently mainstream among gay and bisexual people. Participating in BDSM, leather, and queer theory are not what defines being lesbian, gay, or bisexual. These things are subcultures or subcommunities which have gone mainstream, and what is mainstream is often pushed by and/or is what benefits the most privileged within a population.
My pitch is that it is beneficial to replace "community" with "population", "group", "people", etc., to make distinguishments between "broader gay culture" and the actual people, and to adopt framing that understands that there exists several communities within specific groups instead of just implying there exists one community true for everybody.

Still thinking about that time I went to mcr's concert, and Summertime played (aka one of my absolute favourite mcr songs ever that is very very special to me. Helps me deal w a bunch of bullshit)
And the girl I wasn't dating yet decided to stand right in front of me, and cling onto me, when I just really wanted to listen to the song
I didn't understand that she was flirting w me, I was mostly confused as to why she wanted to block my view of the stage 💀
I was like "Cool that you like this song too! :)"
(It was hella warm outside, it was very crowded, it was not pleasant.)

If you want to fight for representation maybe don't fucking antagonize artists/writers who fight for it because "it's not good enough!"
Entitled people with ridiculous bullshit expectations like this hold back representation so much
Like I could throw all that criticism toward Legend Of Korra and Steven Universe back at TOH and other shows like it when it comes to disabled representation- "its only coding! It's not outright stated! Eda's curse turns her into a monster! Wahhh" I've stated I don't like how TOH handled disability but I'm so happy it exists because hopefully we'll open up more story telling that explores disability through the perspective of disabled characters themselves rather than a bunch of able bodied neurotypical people writing/regurgitating the same inspiration porn bullshit
I'm not saying we can't criticize these shows (SU and LoK have issues that deserve to be discussed) but creators working on them fought so hard just to get moments like Korra and Asami getting together, for the first lesbian wedding on a children's show. New shows get to flex that they have these characters because other shows like Legend of Korra punched through barriers to give them space- they didn't have space so they made some! You can criticize SU and LoK like I said- SU has serious issues with Filler and some botched ass morals and LoK could be shallow in some parts but if you try and flex on them because new shows have an easier time with gay representation your a fucking idiot- your new shows wouldn't exist without these ones
But no. It's never blunt/explicit enough, it's too problematic because xyz', it's not representing every single facet of our experiences so it must be bad.
Also the gems being nonbinary/genderless just adds another layer to LGBT representation
Are y'all gonna attack TOH because Raine is nonbinary and their relationship with Eda "doesn't count"
I'm done being polite. You can criticize rep and call out harmful things in fiction without erasing the importance of these stories
Steven Universe: Eh, I don't really feel like saying "girlfriend" or "wife". Maybe they're together. They have a special connection...
(gets violently shoved aside)
The Loud House/Craig of the Creek/The Owl House: Pfft, amateur. "My GIRLFRIEND Sam and I..." "I'm texting my GIRLFRIEND, mind your business." "Luz's new GF showed her..."
#The owl house#loud house#legend of korra#craig of the creek#Steven Universe#With RWBY I love the bees but I admit the ship has issues#But I won't erase it's importance#Especially considering RWBY for all its flaws helped me as a young lesbian#Same goes for the Legion Of Superheroes cartoon#And My Little Pony#I don't criticize the rep in LoSH because it was the best they could do- and I treat SU and LoK the same#I feel lame admitting that these shows helped me#As an autistic person with a family that has dealt with illnesses from lupus to schizophrenia and profound/functional intellectual disabi#-lities I have gripes with TOH#But I also acknowledge it's importance and I don't think it's all bad- I just wish certain things in the show were handled more sensitively#I'm so done being nice when defending these shows#I'm not gonna get mad at LoK for not being perfect with Korrasami because it was the best they could do#Do you not realize how hard it was back then#I'm only 21 but my sister (who is bi) remembers a time before gay marriage and crazy evangelical nonsense because she's older#She doesn't like SU and even she said complaints like this were bull- because the shows people make this complaint about stood against odds#They won. It was hard and it was messy but they won even though they didn't have a horse in the race so you can forgive them for having a-#Few bruises and not being in first place#You have a horse in the race- your still at a disadvantage yes but you have a better chance#Gay#lgbtqia#I'm so done#representation is representation#Unless it's actually super harmful (like how she-hulk represents mental illness) or baiting (like lightyear) then you take it and learn to-#Do better if there was a problem#People are so entitled

see I get its abt repression and letting that bury u alive but theres still time it doesnt have to be like this etc !! and it does that powerfully. but I've just. never been repressed or closeted in that specific kind of sense. dysphoria has never manifested like that for me... I kind of feel like social pressures esp gender related ones didn't exert the same force on me growing up that they did on a lot of ppl I know (and still don't now) bc I never fully understood them or was excluded for various reasons. but man. fucking rough for ppl who did/do still feel that way 💔
#just sitting trying to unpick how i feel abt the film cuz my alarm is out of battery so i gotta charge it before i sleep....#like i didnt have an easy time as a kid or teen and yeah i was still very much affected by social constructs n attitudes around me#but it was difficult in different ways.... i dont knowww. i do have my own repression but not in a way ive ever seen represented#or that other ppl seem to understand unless they have a similar set of experiences to me#just too autistic to get it LOL#ive always been myself even before i had the language to understand what that meant. n the resistance to my self expression hasnt ever#trumped my ability to express myself#i think this kind of relates to how like. ive never had the need to 'come out' like its never been important to me personally#and i can understand why it is for some ppl. but as soon as i found out what lesbianism was n saw myself in it that was that#and the same w realising my understanding of my gender was different like i just immediately incorporated it into my life#and yeah i havent 'come out' to my parents which used to be bc they were kinda homophobic but theyve grown n theyre not anymore#but i just dont need to like its not relevant to our relationship???#if i had a long term partner i would introduce them. and that would probably be the only way id explicitly acknowledge it to them#they likely already know by this point bc ive never made much of an effort to hide it n virtually everyone else has known for 8+ years#im not dependent on them anymore so it doesnt really matter if it damaged our relationship. like that would be on them if it did#sorry this sounds cold. idk ive never believed in unconditional familial love in my experience there are always conditions attached#i care abt them a lot dont get me wrong.. ah im explaining badly im so shattered....#my alarm is probably charged enough now so im gonna sleep now otherwise ill be getting less than 6 hrs sleep sigh..#im just rambling..... goooodnight muah#.diaries

what are the top 5 things you'd like to see a disabled character do in a story?
Hey! This is a very vast question and a lot of it would depend on the character's actual disability - I have completely different wishlists for what I'd like to see intellectually disabled characters do versus what I'd like to see characters with facial differences do. Different stereotypes and tropes affect different groups of disabled people differently - to work with this fact, the below list will try to account for as large amount of disabled character as I can reasonably think of, but it won't have as much detail as you might want. If you have a specific kind of character in mind, feel free to send another ask.
Not in specific order:
Disabled characters being in love. Disabled x disabled, disabled x abled, disabled x very different kind of disabled, all these variants but including more than 2 characters (since I've yet to see a polyamorous disabled character), all of this.
And I mean in actual relationships, not the pitiful and devoid of actual chemistry thing that we usually get (think "really sad disabled man only becomes happy after an abled woman takes pity on him, but they never kiss or god forbid have sex because that's gross and the disableds surely don't do that anyway").
I want to see an interabled couple going through IVF because they want to have kids, a wife with hemiplegia getting to grow old and wrinkly with her autistic husband, a lesbian with Treacher Collins syndrome moving in with her chronically ill girlfriend after a month of knowing each other, DeafBlind men getting hands on each other in the bathroom of a shitty nightclub, a trans woman with autism asking out a trans man with Down syndrome via her AAC tablet, a neurotypical guy with an obvious crush on his classmate with cerebral palsy.
I want to actually see disabled people being shown as desirable partners, good parents and grandparents, potential crushes, going through some new feelings and going on both good and bad dates, from all walks of life, of all sexualities and genders. Just like abled people.
Disabled characters participating in their community. Especially severely and/or visibly disabled characters. This is obviously a concept as vague as it could possibly be, but a big problem with a lot of disabled characters is that they don't... do anything. Not in the sense that they aren't "active enough", but that they aren't really... characters. They're often reduced to a family member who's at home and maybe the abled character takes care of them sometimes, but that's seemingly all that happens; they have no interests, hobbies, agency, preferences, or an internal thought process. All they do is wait for an abled savior to do something to them, not even with them.
I want to see more disabled characters who have jobs (whether it's a "regular" job, a supported employment workplace, a creative job that maybe they can only do a few hours a week, or self-care as a full-time job kind of thing), participating in hobbies that are accessible and/or modified to their ability level, emailing or sending pigeon letters to their friends, trying out new stuff that they're interested in, having actual complex relationships with their caregivers. Anything to actually make them feel like characters that exist in their setting, not just cardboard cutouts that the author had no ideas for.
Disabled characters who are a part of real-world disability (and adjacent) culture. Obviously also a vast topic. Most disabled characters, regardless of setting, are completely separated from concepts that were made by disabled people for disabled people; usually the connection to disability is their actual medical condition and a sterile mobility aid. This is not incorrect or bad to represent since that describes a lot of people, but I'd like to simply see more variety.
I want to see disabled characters who do parasports, who are excited about tactile art, went to blind/Deaf/SPED schools, call themselves #a babe with a mobility aid, decorate their AAC device, learn about disabled history, experience Feelings when hearing that Neanderthals cared about their disabled children, go to disability-centric events or support groups to meet people similar to them.
Do all disabled people do these? Absolutely not, but I'd like for even 1% of fictional characters to represent those who do.
Yeah I just want more disabled characters doing sports. As in real-life sports that real-life disabled people do, apologies to all the fantasy swordfighting that's out there.
There are so many sports out there we can do, some are adapted, some have a sitting or wheelchair version, while others were made specifically for us. Team sports are such a good opportunity to have your character have a community of people like them, have interesting dynamics, yet the only anything I can think of that's about it is REAL by Takehiko Inoue (wheelchair basketball) and the art by @/gayaest / @/sproutwiki (sitting volleyball). Also some Paralympics documentaries that I can count on a single hand - there's like three of them.
I want to see characters who are starting out and really suck at their sport, ones who are decent, ones with ridiculous sports-anime-level over the top abilities. I want to see all kinds of sports done by all kinds of disabled characters; blind kids learning goalball with their blind parents, quadriplegic guys working their ass off to qualify for national murderball championships, folks using sticker-covered bright-pink ramps in their boccia games, people with POTS playing along with their abled partner on their wheelchair rugby league team, standing fencers becoming disabled and adapting to wheelchair fencing that they love just as much. More disabled people having fun, knowing other disabled people, having interests!
Also, parasports are just cool as fuck and interesting to both watch and read about.
Disabled characters getting to make bad decisions. Disability representation is often extremely black-and-white in terms of morality: the character is either an angel who always does the right thing and talks about being grateful a lot, or the character is comically evil, wanting revenge because of their disability, hating their disability, constantly in grief and anger since not a single mildly ok thing happened to them since they became disabled. Neither of these feel like real people.
Disabled characters should be able to say hurtful things, get mad, lie, and whatever else, without being demonized to hell for it the same way abled characters are. They should be allowed to consciously make a decision that they shouldn't take (also known as "dignity of risk" in context of disability). They should get the same consequences for mistakes as everyone else and need to have the opportunities to actually make them.
In a much shorter way: more complex disabled characters.
These are things that I'd enjoy seeing for disabled characters. But the main thing would probably be that I want more of them. The scope of disabled characters in media is so painfully narrow because there's so few of them + they're usually capped at one per series. More writing featuring multiple disabled people please.
Here is a list of wishes from other mods who wanted me to throw them here:
Disabled characters who act like the author did more than a 10 min google search about their disabilities. [So authors doing actual research.]
More disabled characters of color. A lot of time disabled characters are white because it's only acceptable for them to be one kind of marginalized. In real life that's not how it works. People of color are disabled too!
Characters with comorbidities, characters with physical and mental health and developmental symptoms. Disability doesn't just come with one cut and dry disorder all the time - you can even be diagnosed with some things and undiagnosed with others.
[A character can have 5 comorbidities, or 5 completely unrelated disabilities - both happen. Or, most frequently, a bit of both.]
Characters existing in all parts of their diagnostic journey. [So characters who are yet to be diagnosed, currently investigating their symptoms, ones recently diagnosed, and ones who had their diagnosis for their whole lives - and as mentioned previously, you can be on one stage with disability A, and on another with disability B.]
Characters whose whole life isn't just tragedy/struggle! See this a lot when a story with disabled character is just about how life is hard for them as disabled person. Would love disabled characters being leads in other genres and just existing as people. Not to say disability isn't a struggle, but there is more to life and person than disability.

oh thats the first time ive ever actually felt like myself in a reader insert
free palestine! click this link for more info + dono links (if you have links to any other gfms/resources pls send them to me so i can update the list!)
hello hello i am here with some abby x autistic! reader content bc i know i cant be the only autistic person obsessed with her. yes this is completely self indulgent.
i kinda just threw words on the page, but i hope someone out there will enjoy :)
Tumblr media
it takes ages for you and abby to actually get together because you were entirely oblivious to her advances. during breakfast you had spent a solid thirty minutes talking about the different wildflowers that grew in north america and their significance in literature. abby thought your passion for the subject was sweet so while on patrol she picked some flowers that kind of looked like the ones in the pictures you showed her. when she presented them to you, your squeals of joy made her entire face light up.
“ah, thank you!”
you think nothing of it, assuming she was just being nice. you always assume she’s just being nice. so when you accidentally end up on a moonlit picnic date with her and she asks to kiss you, your eyebrows raise in confusion.
abby looks mortified “oh god, did i make things weird? i’m sorry.”
“no, no!” you reassure her. “i just…didn’t know this was a date.”
she could throw up on the spot. had she misread the situation? sure she never said the word “date”, but she told you that she wanted to spend some time alone with you. she brought you flowers, wine (if you could even call it that) that owen had been fermenting, and you two had been cuddling under the stars for the better part of an hour.
“you can kiss me.” your fingers fiddled with the stitching of the blanket beneath the two of you. “i would like that, actually.”
when you start dating you apologize profusely about all of your sensory quirks. you didn’t want to cuddle after she washed her hair because you hated the feeling of her wet hair on your skin. she kept separate blankets for you because you didn’t like the texture of the fabric on hers.
you nearly cried after the only time you snapped at her. someone was playing music in the mess hall, everyone was talking over each other, the smell and texture of the mushy broccoli was overwhelming, and abby was asking too many questions about your assignments for the day.
“please just be quiet for a second!” your tone had been a little sharper than you intended. abby looked hurt until tears welled in your eyes and you apologized over and over. you talked it over after dinner and obviously abby wasn’t mad at you (not that she ever could be).
after that, whenever she would play music she always made a point to ask
“is that too loud?”
and you absolutely hated patrol. all the yelling, the occasional gunfire, that god awful clicking. it was an overstimulating nightmare. abby often picked up your shifts whenever she could to save you the misery of leaving base. on the off chance that she couldn’t, she would always make sure a few pairs of ear plugs were in your bag.
you fight the need to vocal stim around people who aren’t her. it was a weight off your shoulders when you finally felt brave enough to explain it to her. at first, she just ignored them, growing accustomed to the empty noise. one day, when you’re softly meowing on repeat, she decided to join in. the two of you would meow back and forth until you erupted into giggles.
abby never made you feel weird about anything. sure, she had questions, but never in an invasive way. she just wanted to cater to and accommodate you as best she could. all because she loves you.

The identity erasure in fandom is so exhausting.
I feel like someone could write a thesis specifically about Zac Oyama’s characters being pushed into queer/ nd stories by fandom without any regard to the actual textual stories of racism, model minorities, and othering that often arise from Zac’s work.
Like I can find hundreds of Gorgug/ Zelda/ Ragh fics and fics about Gorgug being autistic and only a handful that engage with Gorgug’s race. And actually, you’re just as likely to see a fic about fantasy racism towards Riz, which. Is not the story being told.
Truly wild.
You know, this is really fascinating to me both because I tend to only see the most ridiculous discourse coming from D20 and I don't read fic, but also despite neurodivergence being not uncommon among peole in fandom, as I said, people acted like Travis Willingham was too stupid to play a druid as recently as late 2021 (even after he'd played a hexadin). It's gotten much better and more AP actors have openly talked about having ADHD (Travis McElroy, Aabria Iyengar, Siobhan Thompson, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson) which I think forced people to consider what ADHD looks like but now it's kind of become a new "oh this character is LIKE ME" thing where basically anything can be used as evidence, which is fine for headcanons but becomes a problem when you ignore the identities you don't personally have.
But yeah, Zac in particular gets treated terribly - I haven't seen people be as awful to Lou despite him also being a man of color (though I have seen people be weird about him not necessarily choosing to play fat characters and it's like idk man why do you feel he's obligated to play characters that represent you, especially since he does clearly choose to consistently play black characters?) but a lot of people ignore that yeah, Zac has consistently played Japanese characters whenever they've been in a real-world-inspired setting, and that Gorgug is a half-orc living with gnomish parents who is curious about his parentage and who ends up pursuing artificing like his adoptive parents and feels like a very meaningful exploration of being multiracial. I do, for what it's worth, think there is textual exploration of anti-goblin racism in the first season that isn't really followed up on...but it's kind of telling that also, Gorgug isn't canonically queer and Riz is, and Riz is played by a white actor.
I would like to see someone, actually, do an academic exploration of everything talked about here because it's like:
Is this character, in-world, textually an oppressed identity (Fjord, Molly)
Is this character portrayed, in-world, as being of an identity that is oppressed in our world but is not in their world (eg, Beau being a nonwhite human lesbian in a world that doesn't really have color-based racism, usually favors humans, and doesn't have homophobia)
Is the character portrayed by an actor with an oppressed identity (Zac is nonwhite, Ally is trans, etc)
Is this actor a person with an identity shared by their character (ie, Lou and Aabria usually play black characters but those characters do not necessarily experience racism in their world - Fabian doesn't but Kingston would as does Eursolon; Deanna and Suvi don't - if I'm wrong bc I'm behind on WBN sorry)
If a character has multiple identities, which one are people connecting to and which are they ignoring?
If a character is, for example, played by an (afaik) straight cis nonwhite man and played as a straight cis nonwhite man (Ricky Matsui as played by Zac) do people headcanon them as being more like themselves to make them more relatable? Does this happen more with nonwhite characters given the heavily white AP audience?
If a character's race in a fantasy world is metaphorical, do they care about it? when and how?
anyway. much to think about.

Satisqueer
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Satisqueer (or problaqueer) is a queerstance that focuses mainly on receiving people rejected by the community, this includes the paraphilics, subs(edtwt, sh etc) among others. It mainly intends to break social constructions, gender roles, heterosexuality and cisnormativity, taboos in relation to anything and especially welcoming people regardless of how they are like every queerstance should be!
Satisqueer uses a lot of empathy and acceptance of all types of identity, disorders, defense mechanisms and many others.

CURIOSITY: where did the idea of the name Satisqueer and problaqueer come from?
“Satis” comes from Latin, and means “quite” - who chose this name was lilico - and "probla" its from "problematic", indicating that we include a lot of communities, regardless of how problematic or bad they are (no matter how ‘shat’ it is). We fight mainly against cis/heteronormativity, transmed, capitalists and moralistic people.
No one is better than anyone else and has no wrong way to express themselves, identify or deal with their problems, I believe we should claim this label with pride, embrace the unusual and inconvenient ways of dealing with things as part of our identity and struggle.

Afrolatino Percy Jackson thoughts dump i wanna put on blue baja blast
His name would NOT be Perseus. It dosen't roll off the tongue in spanish at all so Sally would name him Perseo
His middle name would also be Isadore, which is both of greek origin and a name an african american mom would absolutely name her son
Lightskin Percy is one ugly ass motherfucker and book innacurate. He looks exactly like Poseidon so poc Percy can't be mixed(but he would multietchnic by default,as he is canonically).Poseidon is afrogreek,Sally is afro-dominicana and they're both darkskin with strong features
If you make Percy black but not punk you're being weird and ignorant.Punk Percy is canon and black people created punk culture-starting in New Yorker at the same time it did England!!!-so there's no reason your Percy shouldn't not only be punk but AFROpunk.Grunge/Skater boy Percy isn't canon anyway and was popularized by white people projection so it has no say in afrolatino Percy
He had crushes on Starfire/Teen Titans 2003 Koriand'r and 1997/Brandy's Cinderella and they shaped his taste in women. He's black4black and yes, this includes when it comes to men.Jason was giving black biracial natural blonde in the books and Percy never had crushes on Luke or any male gods and Beckendorf was basically his older brother so he didn't have a crush on him either. Not every queer man liked older men as a kid but especially not Percy, whomst canonically hates older men for being older men.Too many of you are so flipadipping stupid💔
'Black boys glow blue in the moonlight' from Moonlight is extremely Percy-coded and he cried so hard he almost threw up watching I Saw The Tv Glow for the first time
His personality, experiences, treatment and perception(in-universe)are very representative of black autistics, especially but not limited to amab ones
^Stating amab because Percy reads as an afrolatino with a complex relathionship to gender that's healed with rejection of white masculinity and embracing black femininity culminating in identifying as transfem and bigender(he/they/she/neos)
Thalia,Rachel and Silena were black-coded too,Thalia as AA and Silena as creole but Rachel as nigerian yoruba with inmigrant parents, and this is why in the latter two cases they connected so well and clashed with Thalia as an intracommunity conflict metaphor.Thalia is platonically the stud to Percy's femme(tomboy/girly girl black sisters),Perachel haters are whole ass weirdos and Charlena was black love
Nico wasn't quite black-coded but he works better as black than white. He's a lot like 'soft sunshine nerdy black boy who's also ultra powerful and a little shit' characters and his name is literally Nico di Angelo,a black ass name as much as Percy Jackson is.Plus we need more black goth kid rep and my jamaican friend said it's a trope that black girls only have white siblings so that only made me headcanon black Nico further. He had an afro and when he's 17(in my Toa fixit/replacement,Tales of Dead Seas),he switches to dreads with a bun in the back
Percy and Hazel are so girldad and adoptive lesbian daughter he found and bonded with during the movie's/game's quest-coded.As has been pointed out by other black Pjo fans, their relathionship reads as black solidarity amongst a group of mostly nonblacks and she's the third to his and Nico's trio, called the Dead Sea Siblings since 1.Nico is the son of Hades,Hazel is the daughter of Pluto and Percy is the son of the sea god and 2.They're mediterranean by virtue of their greek heritage and Nico's italian too.Their bond deserved to be expanded on instead of discarded and so did Hazel as her own character and she's a Tods mc and gets her own solo book titled 'Hazel-Blood'.Sally is Percy's queen and Hazel is Percy's princess
His favorite music genres are rap, metal, bedroom rock and lo-fi beats, the last one influenced by Hazel's obsession with them.He can play guitar and he grew up listening to dominican/latino songs thanks to Sally blasting them around La Residencia Jackson all the time.Teezo Touchdown is his go to for road music
The sea does not like to be restrained so she switches hairstyles throught the series.Baby dreads in Tlt,wicks in Ttc,twists in Tlo,an afro in Son as she didn't remember what styles she liked on herself at the time but muscle memory gives herself dreads in the climax, diy's sea material based beads for them in Moa and grows her hair out so much by the time she's 19 she switches to locs. She decided to give herself a little girl treat by doing her hair the mermaidcore color technique too to celebrate her egg cracking(yellow, aqua, pink and purple were her choices and as per the requirements, the black with a white streak base stays)
Blue flan helps keep her mentally semi-sane and aquarium nails rewired her brain. She also owns a pair of pastel blue shorts with 'are you nasty?' on the ass in rhinestones she got as a ref to the Janet Jackson song
Also her,Tyson,Nico,Hazel and Estelle do the obvious 'Jackson Five' jokes and Sally and Paul join in
He's a hood nigga and can't turn it off and he's been made to feel bad about those things but by the Tods finale(at age 22)he's completely embraced it with pride and mocks suburbinates openly rather than just in his heads out of insecurity.Percy's the kinda guygirl to use 'Babygirl' as a romantic nickname unironically and nonsexually and wear hightop converse and sit on the curb eating street food next to the trucks he bought them from and watch black video game streamers then reference their lines irl
He's a very chalant dreadhead and owns a collection of blue durags and bought Sally a blue bonnet from Aphrodite that gives her perfect hair each night(Mamí's boyyyyyyy)
She gave up skateboarding because of greasy white boy posers but returned to it as symbolism for healing her inner child and transitioning. She was a skater boy,now she's a punk girl with a pretty face. Her board is black with blue cat and oceanic designs and she goes on petty crime sprees, uses her powers for enviormentalism, harasses Poseidon for money for Nico's chronic pain meds and mobility aids and gives Hazel special treatment to heal her from adultification trauma, knows how to diy things that don't even exist, drinks blue ingridients only battery acid and is the go-to for learning about punk culture amongst punks kids in Manhattan and in CHB for Percy's actual punk tactics
They've been sexually harrassed by white girls often enough to find snowbunny jokes deeply unfunny and even get angry at them and tell the people to make them this is why black women won't date them(wether they tell them they're a black woman themself to prove the point or not depends)
Sally's love of and inate connection to the sea is her dominican upbringing she passed down onto Percy coming through
Percy in blue togas and gold accesories, ripped pants and long chunky skirts, his Camp Half-Blood shirt with his battle jacket on top, blue cybersweetie dresses, waist beads, demonias and doc martens, thrifted graphic tops themed after his special interests, blackish blue lipstick and waterpoof glitter eyeshadow and black eyeliner years >>>>>>>>>>>>
She was definitely a gamer kid,she owned tamagotchis and went to arcades as safe spots and on her 12th birthday,Sally gifted her a blue nintendo ds she saved up to buy her.It was her only console for the longest time and she played so many games on it that combined with how much it meant to her she got it for her,she keeps it to this day and is very protective of it.Also, she would go hunting for cartridges of games based on existenting media she already was into as they hit different for her and she picked to play a girl in Pokemon(Percy, you EGG).And Sonic The Hedgehog kid Percy is a no brainer too,seeing......everything about Sonic as a franchise and Sonic as a character,he looks like Percy's fursona lmfao and peachdeluxe has the most accurate and Percycore human!Sonic ever
Please imagine Nico and Percy squishing Hazel into a hug as they both cover her in kisses and she giggles, happy stimming and non-seriously telling them to stop and that they're embarrassing her as if they aren't laying on her bed together. Please also imagine Percy showing up to Nico and Hazel's Special ED school he was supposed to attend when he was 9 but overheard Sally planning it over the phone and melted down so bad over it she never brought it up again, with a big box of homecooked blue stuffed cookies and a bag of ensures,on the day of Hazel's first art showcase as she's the president and founder of the art club there in her dcom episode ahh plot that transpired a month beforehand and her dreadfully learning what dilf means that day too
His hair is so afrotextured it can't be silkpressed, caused by Poseidon's divine status as his dad
She would recreate the Bubbline rock t-shirt and sweater to share between her and her girlfriend and want them to be Princess Bonnibel Bubblegum to her Marceline Abadeer The Vampire Queen(Percy Jackson The Sea Queen?).Matching icons, cosplay skits, singing Monster from Obsidian to them on her guitar, sending Bubbline tiktoks to eachother, attending Adventure Time events official and fanrun and even reading fics together.Encourage her to post the ones she wrote in her egg yearning days and her stitched heart you sowed back together is yours forever
Insert obligatory Percy is a New Yorker so he has beef with Imagine Dragons joke here
He thought cat cafes were gonna be white af and gentrified but went to one for the first time inbetween Botl and Tlo and now she's absolutely in love with them and goes to the one closest to La Residence Jackson twice a week and them,Nico,Hazel and whoevere blue's dating(read:whoever you ship Percy with, including yourself)are the only reason it's still in bussiness tbh
Percy's piercings are a spider bite,an eyebrow piercing, forward helix on both ears and a tongue ring. All done at home by Sally
He has a thing for women with afrobubble hairstyles and men with design fades
He rides for Leo almost as hard as Jason and Piper do and thinks he's based asf.Leo was intimidated by Percy's coolness at first, scared of looking like a loser in front of him,but Percy was so nice to him and openly as silly as him he let his guard down and now they're besties 4 life.Percy likes carrying Leo around and Leo clings to him and started his habit by randomly instigating it for no reason and Percy enjoyed doing it so it sticks. They compare their spanish dialects for fun and Leo gets Percy into game moding stuff while Percy gets Leo into surfing and Leo grows a close friendship to Nico and Hazel caused by Percy and even to Rachel, especially in Tods. They're painter/crafter solidarity and meet in the middle with arts and crafts and Leo is the red takis to Percy's blue takis
She copycats McDonalds recipes to make them but more delicious and also blue(when the boycott comes, she starts doing property damage on McDonalds buildings and Nico and Hazel vandalize them)
They definitely have a sweater that says 'The only blue life that matters' over a toony shark Thalia gave them
She's Spiderpunk in the universe he's a Spiderperson.Hobie Brown is so,SO book!Percy Jackson-coded and i'll give receipts!!
Bonus because my little brother(lesbian)said so and she has dreadlocks:This be Percy

THIS. YES. Sorry OP but u have good opinions always and I gotta jump on this or I’ll explode. i think it’s so important to acknowledge the way identity is influenced by lived experience. I’m a queer trans guy whos pretty cookie cutter when it comes to pronouns and transition goals for the most part. But I was raised in a rural area and was always viewed as a tomboy and later butch. When I talk abt my experiences with religion it will always be from the perspective of an (the the time) teenage queer girl. I see this as additive and honestly really beautiful. And it makes me sad that some people view these nuances as making identities less “real” . Tying them together and learning that the ftm and butch lesbian communities have always lived in tandem with each other was the greatest thing I ever did for my own mental health regarding being lgbt. I’m a guy who’s very excited to get gay married one day. That doesn’t take away the fact that I was once a sapphic girl who had very specific experiences that would not have occurred had I not been a woman. If you remove the context, none of my writing or artwork about my life would make any sense.
gender identity is honestly so contextual. Like when it comes to people who don’t know me personally or romantic partners, I prefer he/him being a butch lesbian and all… but on the other hand in my art and writing I am a mixed woman ultimately, like it defines so much of the way I was raised/how I’m treated I think it’s inseparable from me and crucial to understand what I write idk

I was originally not going to make a post about this, but after seeing a few other posts about it, I wanted to make my own. I have a LOT to talk about.
TW: Transphobia, Homophobia, Ableism
If you don’t know what I’m taking about- there was a post made by a user, who’s name I will not disclose or share, who discussed how they would rewrite the new Monster High G3 Cartoon. While some of the points were mundane, or points of preference, others made me very uncomfortable, as they got rid of much of the diversity that G3 has brought into the Monster High Universe. I want to quickly go through three of the points that I felt were erasing these steps in diversity, and my thoughts on each one, and why I think that it’s iffy, to say the least.
First is the statement “all of the couples from G1 will stay together”. While this may read to some as a preference for the old couples, in the context of rewriting G3- it comes across as the erasure of both couples involving a neurodivergent character being the subject of a crush, and being seen as desirable and loved (Manny x Twyla), and what probably was the intended couples they wanted to seperate, the canonically queer ships. In particular, this is most likely against Clankie (and POSSIBLY an s2 ship which I won’t say by name because some people want to go in blind. Instead I will refer to it as 🧡💚.). In this rewrite context, wanting to take away queer relationships which many writers and designers for Monster High have fought for in many shapes and forms. G1 never had explicit queer characters, the closest things being a scrapped SDCC diary entry (Valentine x Spelldon), Post-Ending 3rd party statements (Clawdeen is a Lesbian, Rebecca x Venus, etc.) and implied characters (Kiyomi). While these are okay, they are NOT the same as explicit queer couples, which are arguably more important to push forward in the talk and scope of present and future representation.
While it is okay to prefer the G1 ships, in the context of bringing them back for G3, it erases these queer couples, and ignores the lore and universe of G3. In G3, Cleo and Deuce are exes. And if you don’t like that, you can still watch G1!! It’s not magically disappeared, the movies and shows and music is all still out there, and most of it is free! But, erasing Clankie, 🧡💚, and other potential queer ships in G3, for the preservation of a m/f ship isn’t okay.
Tumblr media
On the subject of erasure, there is the statement “Frankie is still non-binary, but now uses she/they pronouns”. A character canonically using they/them in cartoons, especially ones made for kids, are uncommon. Honestly, I don’t even know if I could name 10, and that says more about the state of non-binary representation than it does about me. While changing the pronouns of a cisgender character to gender neutral ones is often done in fandom, and often not a point of issue, taking a character who is canonically non-binary and solely uses they/them and giving them typically gendered pronouns erases that under represented group, and allows for transphobes to ignore the “they” in “she/they”, and only use “she” for the character. This is an issue in real life too, for many who use multiple sets of pronouns, including myself (they (preferred) / he) ! We deserve both of their sets of pronouns to be used, and people who only use they/them deserve to be referred to by and as they/them. These changes hurt everyone.
Tumblr media
Then, we come to the one I see the most talk about, and the one that made me audibly yell “what the f-?!”- taking away Twyla’s canon autism diagnosis, and symptoms & traits, and replacing it with autism coding, so that she is easier to identify with. First of all- easier for who??? Neurotypicals ?? It is incredibly rare to see a character on kids TV outright say “I am autistic”, and Twyla is wonderful as representation. Twyla will not resonate or be relatable to every person- but that is true for all characters, not just autistic ones. Autistic people are not a monolith, it is a spectrum, with many different ways to present itself. Also… taking away all of her traits and symptoms to make her more relatable? These traits and symptoms are what would have made her “autistic coded”, and without them, you have a character who is NT.
Autism isn’t a quirky word you can use to describe anyone, it is a disability, that myself and many others have, and see misrepresented time and time again. And to say that a good example of it is not good, and would be better off to be erased and replaced with coding is insane. Coding is okay, but that’s all it is. Real spoken representation matters so much to me, and so many other people, even if the characters we see are not identical to us in those symptoms and traits they exhibit. These characters should not be changed, but rather, more autistic characters, with different presenting symptoms and traits, should be introduced !
Tumblr media
You can like G1, you can prefer G1, but that does not mean that you have to make a sanitised version of G3, that makes it identical to G1. In terms of representation, there is no arguing that G3 has G1 beat. The poster said on their post that “any new characters would be made more relatable”, but… to who? Because I relate to a lot of the G3 characters more than the G1 ones, and I grew up loving G1! It’s not been wiped, all of the media still exists for you to watch, and make headcanons for ! If you like G1- good for you! But please, stop trying to make G3 exactly like it. Because change is inevitable in these kinds of reboots, and it allows for the representation some want to take away.
Thank-You for those who read all the way!

Why Caitlyn Kiramman is My Favorite Character in Arcane
Arcane is a beautifully crafted show, and its strength lies in its complex characters. Among them, Caitlyn Kiramman stands out to me as the most relatable and inspiring. As an autistic lesbian, I see so much of myself in her—not only in how she interacts with the world but also in her compassion and courage. Caitlyn’s journey, her traits, and her relationships make her a standout character and a powerful symbol of representation.
One of the reasons Caitlyn resonates with me is how she exhibits behaviors often associated with autism. Her sharp focus and natural curiosity as an investigator reflect the hyperfixation and attention to detail many autistic people experience. Caitlyn thrives in environments where logic and problem-solving are key, calmly piecing together clues while others might be overwhelmed. This aspect of her personality feels deeply familiar to me.
Caitlyn also struggles with social norms and expectations, particularly those tied to her privileged upbringing. Her straightforward, no-nonsense way of communicating and her tendency to question authority over conforming to it mirror the way many autistic people prioritize authenticity over societal expectations. She doesn’t always fit in, but she doesn’t let that stop her from being true to herself.
Tumblr media
What makes Caitlyn even more compelling is her profound compassion. Throughout Arcane, she consistently shows kindness and understanding, especially toward people from marginalized backgrounds, like Vi and the oppressed citizens of Zaun. Her empathy allows her to connect with others on a deep level, even when they come from vastly different worlds. For example, her willingness to listen to Vi’s perspective and fight for justice in Zaun shows her commitment to doing what’s right, even at great personal cost. This compassion resonates with me, as it’s something I strive for in my own life.
Caitlyn’s canon identity as a lesbian is another reason she holds such a special place in my heart. Her evolving relationship with Vi is a cornerstone of the series, filled with tenderness, mutual respect, and undeniable chemistry. As a lesbian, it’s empowering to see such nuanced and meaningful representation in media. Caitlyn’s love for Vi isn’t just implied—it’s woven into the narrative with care and authenticity, making her a rare and treasured example of queer representation in mainstream media.
Tumblr media
Caitlyn Kiramman represents a perfect balance of strength and vulnerability. Her intelligence, compassion, and determination to challenge unjust systems are deeply inspiring. For autistic lesbians like me, Caitlyn is more than just a character—she’s a symbol of representation and hope. Through her, Arcane offers a story where difference is celebrated, where compassion and integrity are strengths, and where people like me can see ourselves as heroes.
In Caitlyn, I see someone who values justice, kindness, and love. That’s why she’ll always be my favorite character.
