I Dream in French. Hand carved in the 19th century. On a buying trip to France we discovered two complete rooms of wood panels that once resided in a French chateau. The difference between a reinterpretation and architectural details inspired by the original approach can be extraordinary! On the left a reinterpretation....on the right.....Corrected...The turret is round. It has a medieval leaded glass window. The window eyebrows though the roof line. The conical roof has a French flair at the bottom. The rubble stone is relieved by sections of parged mortar. The window has a slab of stone on a steep angle gradually working it’s way out from the window creating a look of thick walls. Heavy corbels have been added instead of crown molding and the typical facial board.The crowning touch is a tall slim copper finial with a copper flag and a scalloped copper apron. It looks like icing on the cake, doesn’t it? Leo adds his magic touch to existing plans turning them from typical into stunning. Don’t settle for ordinary. A computer is very good at generating drawings that just mimic the same details over and over. A creative mind strives to design unique details that are not in the computer. But then I would assume the computer has never been to France.
