Well, yeah, Marxist scholars aren't stupid and they are still looking at reality from time to time, so of course they will come up with sensible explanations for monopolies and such. What I'm saying is that tying these explanations back to LTV is a handicap, not a benefit. It's not just a different formalism because this formalism actually posits the reality of labour power as the substance of value. If prices of certain comodities can balloon out of control despite still requiring the same amount of labour time to produce, then either price and value are mostly decoupled (in which case, why do you need value in the first place?) or labour time is just not the only determinant of value.
As benefits of the LTV you mention theories of exploitation, crisis, and imperialism.
Exploitation is another one of those words that mean entirely different things to Marxists and to everyday people. To Marxists, exploitation is the ratio between profits and wages. This can actually be calculated from measured quantities. But you can calculate a lot of things, that doesn't make them sensible. What does this ratio tell us? Well, capitalists make decisions mostly based around the rate of profit, i.e. the ratio between profits and total expenditures. If this rate of profit ever becomes too small, a business will quickly fail, and if it becomes too large, it will attract competitors, driving prices and thus profits back down. If the rate of profit is mostly fixed then, what this means is that the ratio between profit and wages is mostly a measure of how low a percentage wages are of total production costs. It is absurd to call this ratio the rate of exploitation. Are you more exploited when you work with more expensive raw materials or when the rent for your work place is more expensive? Are caregivers among the least exploited workers because their bosses have so few expenditures besides their wages? It makes no sense.
The economic crises capitalism has experienced are complex phenomena about which there is still a lot of debate, but I don't think they are so mystifying that explaining them would require us to be postulating an abstract value underlying everything commodity production under capitalism. If anything, breaking them down to a single mechanism would probably be doing them an injustice.
Imperialism is too big a topic honestly to cover it in depth here. What do you think is one thing about it that Marxist theories of imperialism rooted in the LTV explain best?

Do people who say shit like this understand that labor theories of value weren't discarded because they were empirically disproven? There's never been an experiment which refuted LTsV like there was with phlogiston. The phlogiston line comes from a liberal philosopher (Nozick iirc) who believed way more ridiculous shit than "commodities on the aggregate exchange based on the labor time required for their production", which is at least a statement that you can attempt to empirically verify, unlike the nonsense on stilts that is the economics profession's contemporary marginal utility theory, based on unknowable variables and other kinds of theoretical obscurantism.

Difference between Percy and Annabeth’s endings in PJO and HOO. In PJO, it feels like a happy, well-earned, triumphant ending. In HOO, it feels like defeat; like they’ve been let go and run off; like they’re not wanted anymore. At the end of PJO, Annabeth got to see her friend come back to her and redeem himself, and was going to fulfil her dream of building something that would last the ages. Percy was finally free of the weight of the prophecy and the fears surrounding his existence, and was helping other demigods get the safety and acceptance that he himself had been forced to earn. At the end of HOO, they were hurt and felt awful about themselves, and the solution to that was somehow… college.
hoo really came in and went "everything everyone fought and died for in the previous series means nothing, actually" and we're supposed to be like "omg percy and annabeth are going to college together in california. so cute!" as if that's not the most narratively unsatisfying thing rick could've done.
#“and the solution to that was somehow...college” had me laughing my ass off bc literally#i can't take hoo seriously#like. u have to kick percy and annabeth out of chb to write stories abt chb without them. but it makes no sense to kick them out of chb#queenmorganlafay#rr crit#hoo crit#answered#additions

I really liked that monologue because it is so revealing of the character, her self-importance, her disdain for anyone who doesn't care about fashion, her spurious justifications for that disdain, but also her genuine passion. Seeing people online take her seriously though was a bit like that moment when people were arguing Cruella de Vil had a point when she was trying to guilt her employee into giving up her family for her career.
I think some people overstate the general populations susceptibility to manipulation because they themselves are so manipulable that a charismatic Disney villain's monologue can do the trick.
You know looking back that whole speech in The Devil Wears Prada was actually really dumb, since it essentially boils down to "you say you dislike fashion but you still wear clothes"

hi. pet life anon here. im back. i was thinking about what pets everyone would get, especially with mods and new updates. so, i updated pet life a bit (still the same gimmicks as the last one, yes, i am insane and want to see pearl suffer) with the new wolf armor, if you get a wolf as your pet, you can get that armor for them through a boogeyman kill on someone elses pet- BUT, you can't get caught doing it. like secret life where you couldn't share your task. also, now, the boogeyman, instead of just killing someones pet, has the option to take it from them in return their original pet starts to like a different player (eg, martyn takes jimmys pet and martyns original pet suddenly likes another player like pearl) also, if it's down to the final like, 4-6 players, if their pet(s) die, they die. this isnt the last you'll see of me, btw

Finnish names in AW 2 - Answers
I decided to put all answers together in 1 post
OG post:
I was wondering if some of these Finnish versions of names found in YY and beyond are also actual names commonly used in Finnish and/or if they have (different) meanings in Finnish. Like I remember something about Kesä have smth to do with ice cream. Or maybe it really isn’t that deep but I’m curious nonetheless Alan Wake -> Alén Veikko Zane -> Seine Watery -> Huotari (Here I also wonder, did Watery already get mentioned in Alan Wake 1? I cant remember. If not, I wonder if they chose the Finnish name first and if coincidentally, they realized they it somewhat sounds like Watery) Barbara Jagger -> Baba Jakala
---
@thechibi
Water was mentioned in AW1! Pat Maine mentions it on the radio, that's where Moose Fest is and he talks about how it's a rival to DeerFest (which is of course, better!)
@omena-perkele
oh oh I have some answers, though rather minimal and meaningless, but answers nonetheless!!! all the Finnish names used in AW2 are actual names that have actual meanings or people who have them as names. I looked at how common these names are in Finland, tried to find meanings and areas they appear in. tbh I do think that the names were chosen primarily based on the way they sound to make them similar to the character's English names lol
Aleksi Kesä: this one is easy. Aleksi is just the Finnish equivalent of Alex, Kesä is literally the word for summer! it's also an actual surname, though incredibly rare (all sources saying there's currently only 22 people alive who have it).
Veikko Alén: I love how they chose to swap Alan's first and last names to make it easier to match phonetically in Finnish. Veikko means brother, which I think is interesting considering the character of Veikko Alén is played by Thomas Seine and Thomas means twin. Alén is a much more common surname than Kesä (654 people), but I could not find what it means. it seems to be most common in south and west Finland.
Seine: another very rare surname (28 people) and another one I could not find a meaning for... I swore there was a place called "Seinen saari" (isle of Seine) in a Finnish book I once read for school but I can't find anything about it online and I'd have to get my hands on the book somehow to check.. sadly I don't remember the title.
Huotari: wait, is Watery actually translated as Huotari? I don't remember seeing it other than the well and the name of the brothers. kinda embarrassing if I've completely missed that. also I do think it Watery was at least mentioned in AW1. anyway! Huotari is a pretty common surname (3767 people) most common in the Kainuu area. I don't live there or close to it but funny thing, I worked a summer job at a graveyard in eastern Finland and there were quite a few headstones with the name Huotari. Huotari means "gift of god"
Baba Jakala: this one is interesting to me, especially the first name. Baba is so rare that the only data on it shows that there has consistently been 0 or less than 5 people named that for the last century. so basically nobody is named that. Jakala is also another rare surname (25 people) that I could not find a meaning for. I do think that this name was chosen for her purely for it sounding similar to Baba Yaga.
idk why I went down this rabbit hole, it's 5am now lol
@thotpants
The association with ice cream is probably just from your unfortunate exposure to Finnblr. Jäätelökesä (ice cream summer) is a generic marketing term (lifted from an old song) that often gets used in association with the nightmare ice cream flavors we come up with.
My best guess for Seine is that they just couldn't come up with anything even resembling Zane and used the name of the French river. Unlike a lot of other exotoponyms in Finnish it's just used as-is since it conforms to Finnish vowel harmony.
----
Thanks again people for adding your insights on the matter 👏🏽🙏🙏
Always feel free to add new comments

Alright, here are the last two clarifications I promised.
1) That beta sprite, I have now discovered, is not of Kumatora. It is in Aeolia’s sprite sheet [source] and thus, probably of her.
2) The year I stated for the newspapers in Mother 2 are incorrect because the calculated year by day of the week and calendar day changes its matched year in the 90s depending on the newspaper you pick. I just so happened to not take all of the samples to see the years changed so the exact year is still inconclusive.

Your post about Percy and Thalia's dynamic, specifically the "they're not their parents" part, reminded me of something I've noticed about this series, that being how Percy and his peers stand in contrast to the heroes of old. Mythological "heroes" are mostly defined by being badasses, claiming renown for achieving incredible feats. Modern heroism, by contrast, tends to be defined by embodying heroic virtues (courage, altruism, compassion, honesty, etc.). Your average Greek champion could be the biggest strongest dude on the block, but he could also be an asshole glory hound more concerned with claiming his prize than doing the right thing (along with more than a few thefts, murders and r*pes along the way). Yet he's still regarded as a hero because that's what ancient peoples valued. Percy, however, isn't like that, partially because he comes from the modern world. Percy is regarded as the greatest Greek hero of his generation, yet he flies in the face of the classic Greek hero. Percy's motives for his various quests are rooted in his desire to protect people, be it his loved ones who are being targeted or the people who will get caught in the crossfire for the villains. He doesn't want power or a throne, he doesn't crave glory, he doesn't want his name in history books. All he wants is to stop the bad guys so as to keep his family and friends safe. Contrary to Luke's bemoaning in repeating the past deeds of old heroes, Percy doesn't actually replicate the past beat for beat. He approaches these problems differently because he's a different person in a different time. He may not be as strong as Hercules or as skilled as Achilles, but you don't need that to be a hero these days. Percy's a hero not because he's the bigger badass, but because he's the better man.
referring to this post
yes! i think it's a very interesting way to spin classic heroes with modern values. instead of wanting to be like them, percy learns from their mistakes and avoids their tragic endings. and he does this largely by not playing the role of hero, by yielding. he lets his mother save herself, he tells clarisse to take the fleece home alone, he listens to zoe, he holds the sky so artemis can fight, he gives luke the knife. percy doesn't need to be the guy who saves the day, he just needs the day to be saved because, like you said, he's the better man.
even thalia, who is arguably most like the classic greek champion (and shares some of her father's flaws), learns from their mistakes. thalia wants power, wants glory, but she's willing to turn down both in order to protect the people she loves. even if it takes her a minute to make that decision, she still refuses to jeopardize her loved ones in pursuit of her goals.
i think this is also why, ultimately, luke was wrong. although luke was partially motivated by an honorable goal, he was also blindsided by the glory he would get if he were the one to tear down olympus and bring about the new age. he was willing to do anything, hurt anyone, to achieve that goal, and the only thing that made him finally question himself was when he was going to be used as a stepping-stone for kronos.

p-011-my said to give an idea for “Still Life”
And I liked your idea with the painting a lot, but I’ve thought of another
Once or more during a session, everyone will have to freeze
Except for the reds
“Stay Still” pops on the screen, and either you stop, or you continue to run or walk and actively loose hearts as you go
And you have to decide weather it’s worth risking stopping and getting attacked or running and loosing hearts
It's just like that game mode in Just Dance where you gotta freeze or you lose points frfr
#or maybe it was just in the knock off one we had. idk#bad traffic idea#ask#trafficblr#additions#<- gosh the original post is in there. somewhere
