You walked into the paddock bright and early to find your brother before he was busy with qualifying. You ended up running into a different, yet familiar face instead. 

“Oh, hey Oscar,” you smiled 

“Didn’t expect you to be here with your new Australian ballet career,” he smirked and took a sip of the water he had in his hand. “You don’t have a busy schedule? 

“I do, but the season wrapped last month. I figured I’d come down here and support Logan, you know? I’ve got a lot of training to do when I get back, though.” you laughed softly. 

Oscar hummed in an understanding response. 

“How’s it been there?” 

“Good,” you paused. “Tough, too.” 

“I’m sure it is. It’s an art and a sport.” 

“People don't really consider what I do “a sport”.”

“They say the same about racing.” 

“I guess we have something to bond over.”  you smiled.

You both heard Lando call Oscar's name, gesturing for him to go to their garage. Oscar gave an awkward, blush-filled goodbye and ran towards the Brit on the other side of the pit lane.

The fight had broken out the way most bar fights break out. Too much alcohol, too many people, not enough opportunities to walk it off. When Zillig realized she was in over her head it was far too late. She had gone to the human bar with her friend Siobhan to have a drink or two (K’laxi can consume alcohol, but have to watch what mixers are used) and chat.

As they sat down, a group a few tables over jumped up from their chairs and a brawl started beteen them and another table. “We should go?” She asked Siobhan.

“Eh. I’m sure it’ll work itself out. I just got my drink!” Siobhan clearly didn’t want to leave just yet.

What happened next happened so quickly Zillig didn’t even notice what happened until after the fact. One of the humans in the brawl had picked up a chair and had thrown it at someone else. Only, in his drunken rage, he missed and the chair was hurtling towards Zillig. She was facing away and had not even noticed it when Siobhan grabbed the chair out of the air, shouted “TAKE IT OUTSIDE YOU *curse against reproductive organs* and put the chair down at their table, all in one fluid move.

“How. Did. You do. That?” Zillig was beside herself.

“What? The chair?” Siobhan had a proud smile. “Pretty good eh? I lucked out that I saw it in my peripheral vision, and I knew the cheap chairs here weren’t very heavy, so I was able to snatch it before it ruined your day!”

“Your…what?” She asked, awed

“Peripheral vision. Even though everything in front of me is in focus, I can “see” about 170 degrees in front of me, I just don’t expend much energy looking at it. It is very good at sensing motion though.”

“So you saw the chair coming…without looking at it?” Zillig still didn’t quite understand.

“Kind of, yes.” Siobhan shrugged “And then I just automatically reached out and took the chair before it hit you and was able to transfer its momentum down to the ground.”

She took another, larger sip of her drink. “When you say it out loud it sounds way more impressive than it really is. We’re just good at catching and throwing I guess. Maybe it’s a predator thing.” Siobhan finished off her drink and looked thoughtfully at the brawl. Security had arrived and was clearing out the fight.

“Come on Z, let’s get out of here. You ever go dancing?”

“Y-yes, I have”

“With a human?”

“N-no, but I’d like to give it a try”

“It’s settled then. Let’s go out this date into high gear!” Siobhan took her hand. Zillig was excited and worried. But mostly excited.
