Former football players are seeking up to $1bn in compensation in a landmark class action lodged in Victoria against the AFL for the serious damage concussion has allegedly caused them.
The action, lodged by Margalit Injury Lawyers in the supreme court of Victoria, is on behalf of all professional AFL players who sustained concussion-related injuries through head strikes while playing or training between 1985 and 14 March this year.
The lead plaintiff is Jarad Maxwell Rooke, better known as Max Rooke.
The dual premiership player was employed by the Geelong Football Club between 2001 and October 2010, and played 135 games during that time.
The class action alleges Rooke sustained permanent and life-altering injuries as a result of concussion-related injuries and because of the AFL’s negligence.
More than 60 former players have come forward to join the class action.
They are seeking compensation for pain and suffering, economic loss and medical expenses, Margalit Injury Lawyers said.
“The injuries suffered by this group of former AFL players, as a direct result of the concussions sustained while playing Aussie rules, has had a devastating impact on their lives and the lives of their loved ones,’’ the managing principal Michel Margalit said.
“Some of the players who have joined this landmark class action have never been able to hold down a job after leaving the AFL.
“Their personal lives have been shattered and they live with constant physical and mental pain. It’s heart-breaking and they need to be adequately cared for.
Margalit said the firm was seeking about $2m a player plus medical expenses – and more players could join.
“The whole class action could cost the AFL close to $1bn,” she said.

This is my story in short, I am a Type 1 Diabetic. I was diagnosed in February 2019 after being very sick and I weighed 88 lbs. For the last two and a half years I have had to inject insulin 4+ times for day every day, to stay within my blood glucose level.
In December 2020 I was hospitalized and had to have emergency surgery where I had to stay at home for the entire period of my illness without working, and I also had DKA aka Diabetic ketoacidosis is a serious complication of diabetes that occurs when your body produces high levels of blood acids called ketones.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Diabetic ketoacidosis develops when your body cannot produce enough insulin. Insulin normally plays an important role in helping sugar (glucose), the main source of energy for your muscles and other tissues, enter your cells. Without enough insulin, your body begins to break down fat as an alternative fuel. This process produces a buildup of toxic acids in the bloodstream called ketones, eventually leading to diabetic ketoacidosis if left untreated.
Three months later in March 2021 I finally got to see an endocrinologist, who specializes in Type 1 Diabetes. Who told me that an insulin pump would be a good device for me?
Currently the device you see in the picture is the most needed to control my diabetes.
Tumblr media
I was recently approved for an insulin pump that will help me better control my diabetes. Although I am happy that I am approved the hardest part is coming up with the funds to pay for the pump and equipment.

👉 GOAL: $90/$340
A donation of any amount will be greatly appreciated even if you can't donate but if you share the story against friends It will help. Thanks to anyone and everyone who is willing to help.

This isn't 2016 (thankfully) and this is not Brocedes.
This is not Multi-21 and this is not Seb and Mark.
The constructors is one of two championships that are up for grabs this season. Mclaren have consistently fucked themselves over for the constructors. The drivers are allowed to race each other for the driver's championship. They admitted it over radio.
Do I think today was messy? Yeah, for sure. Do I think the hate on either Lando or Oscar is warranted?
NO!
Some of you see these drivers as children needed to be protected from the big bad monsters under the bed and in the closets.
They are MEN. MEN. They are MEN WORTH MILLIONS OF DOLLARS.
These are not your cute little friends you see on tv on Sundays and then in person on Monday. You don't know them personally.
You can be annoyed at a decision made, I know I am baffled by Mclaren's inconsistency between words and actions.
What a person should not do is send death threats, say that one driver deserves something more than another, and believe that it is ok to wish harm to someone.
If you're championing mental health in one post and bashing in the next, then you need to pull back and look at what you're championing a little more in depth.
Go touch some fucking grass.
