Within the past 72 hours the TGM fandom got a fire put under it's ass, for lack of a better term/phrase. Even though I'm not as active in the fandom anymore, it did make me want to talk about a few things. This isn't the first time that I've had to make a post similar to this, usually speaking about reblogs and keeping your fanfic writers feeling wanted within the fandom spaces, but today I'm going to talk more about fandom etiquette and my experiences in fandom spaces. So, if you want to hear my opinion on fandom etiquette, how I learned fandom etiquette, and my thoughts about the doxing situation that has happened, keep on reading.

My Fandom Experience.

The first fandom that I was ever a part of was The Hunger Games fandom in the 8th grade (if you don't include my anime fandoms). I was 12-13 at the time. This was when I was first introduced to Tumblr and being involved within a fandom online. At the time I was super young, barely even knew who I was as a person, let alone in a fandom space. All I did was reblog little gifsets and fawn over Josh Hutcherson. I remember getting my first hate anon, even though I didn't do anything that would generate that to even happen. Even when I was 12-13, I couldn't understand why anyone would send a hate anon. That was when I found out a friend of mine found my Tumblr and actually secretly hated me, so she sent me hate anons. Still, before I knew it was her I didn't understand.

Fandoms were a formative part of my childhood. I think that main one that helped form me though was the Supernatural (yeah, I know, eye roll), Naruto, and The Hobbit fandoms. I had made friends on Tumblr and Instagram through these fandoms. During these times was when I had first started consuming fanfiction. Specifically, destiel and thilbo fanfiction. This is how I started to find the things in fanfiction that I loved, and the things that I hated. Instead of sending hate to the writers for their thoughts and stories that I didn't agree with, I would back out of the story or just scroll past. Not only that, I also started to use the filters on AO3 constantly, ensuring that I was only reading the fics that I knew I'd enjoy. Also, I was careful to read warnings and tags prior to reading the fic. Never once did I blame the writer for something that I knew I didn't like and accidentally read or read for see what it was about.

After high school was when I started getting into fanfiction writing. I've written for a lot of fandoms during this time. The IT movies, Total Drama, Haikyuu, Attack on Titan, Marvel, Bridgerton, Top Gun: Maverick, and currently ASOIAF. As a writer I've never gotten hate, thankfully, but I have had a lot of friends that have. It's sad to see so many people who take the time to write, whether it's enjoyable or not, receive hate. As writers we are simply expressing our creativity for the things that we love. Since posting fanfiction on tumblr, I have experienced a lot of people pestering for new updates and when the next fic is, and so have a lot of other writers on here. Even though people only know us as a little icon and username, fanfiction writers are people. We have lives outside of writing fanfiction. Everyone also isn't the same type writer. One person may easily write multiple fics every week, some of us take longer, and some of us are even just passion writers (me lol).

The TGM fandom has been one of the most negative fandom experiences I've ever seen/had. It is full of some of the meanest people/anons I've ever seen. From writers being attacked for fic ideas, people being sent hate for something that the anon has full control over, and people constantly expecting new stories to read on the daily. Yes, I do know that other fandoms have these issues, but it seems to be almost a weekly, hell, even daily thing within this fandom. A lot of the issues that I see happen in this fandom are from people who don't understand fandom etiquette.

Fandom Etiquette.

If you had noticed there was a few things I put in bold above. These are key things that I learned during my time that attribute to fandom etiquette. So without further a do, I'll list out some fandom etiquette rules that I follow all the time.

Don't send hate anons to people

Block/unfollow people you don't like

If you don't like an idea or fic, don't read it

Read through all warnings and tags that the writer provided

Use AO3 filters

Don't blame the writer/creator for reading things they created that you actively know you don't like

Writers/Creators aren't "content farms"

There are people behind these blogs/usernames, treat them like someone you'd see on the street

Writers/Creators are expressing love/passion for something, don't hate them for doing that

If you see something fandom related that you don't like, scroll past it or ignore it

YOU CURATE YOUR OWN EXPERIENCE (ESPECIALLY ON TUMBLR)

The Doxing Situation.

For those who are unaware but decided to read this anyways, recently there was a writer (Mama Mayhem) on here who got doxed from another writer in the fandom. Mayhem has since lost her job due to the doxing. This was apparently from her breaking HIPAA by posting a picture into a private groupchat/discord. This picture was posted almost a half year ago. Meaning that the person who reported/doxed Mayhem had known about this picture for months and only recently decided to do something about it.

I'll start by saying that I also work in healthcare, and know many other people here who do. I understand that a HIPAA violation is 100% an offense that gets you fired. I'm not excusing the HIPAA violation if one did occur.

Some people have brought up the idea that maybe the person that reported the picture, and doxed Mayhem, was doing it out of the goodness of their heart. Due to the timeline of it all, that doesn't seem likely. I had a previous coworker get fired for HIPAA violations and it took a total of a week from the initial report for her to be gone.

The biggest thing I want to convey is that TWO WRONGS CAN HAPPEN AT THE SAME TIME. Yes, if Mayhem violated HIPAA, it is wrong. But at the same time, the person held onto this information for months only to use it out of spite, pettiness, and cruelty, is wrong.

My Thoughts.

Due to Mayhem being doxed, a lot of people have decided to leave this platform, take indefinite hiatuses, stop writing, or move to AO3 exclusively., and I don't blame them. I'll be honest, I'm thinking about moving to AO3 exclusively now. AO3 feels a lot more rewarding in my experience. I already only post my fics for ships to AO3, so why not just post everything on AO3 (which I usually do).

I think a lot of people have forgot what it feels like to feel shame in something they say or do. When I say this, it's directed towards people who send hate or do other malicious things in fandom spaces. Fandoms were never this clique-ish and mean. I think it has to do with the pandemic, meaning that a lot of people who would have never joined a fandom did because they weren't allowed to do anything outside of their house. So, those mean girls that made fun of fandom girlies (g/n) previously, joined the fandoms and decided started bullying the people within them.

This situation is super shitty and people are now scared. It makes complete sense, especially after seeing someone, that many of you were close to, be doxed. A lot of people are scared of it happening to them now. I don't think this fandom will be the same after this situation, but who knows, maybe everyone will just forget and move on. Either way, I think I'll be taking a step back from the TGM fandom. I'll still be here, but until further notice, I won't be posting any TGM fanfiction. Maybe a gifset/picture here and there, but I don't think this is a fandom I feel comfortable writing for anymore.

Attack on titans tower

Tim, sleep deprived and on his 15th cup of coffee was woefully unprepared for when the red hood appears in front of him. It takes an embarrassingly long time for time to realize that a) yes the red hood is really here and not a hallucination and b) the red hood is here to fight him.

One fight later and the red hood has Tim pinned. Some how this is the first time the two touch. Redhood watches as a bond form on Tim’s wrist, a sickly Lazarus green bond. This shocks Jason enough to stop his attack.

Tim doesn’t notice the bond forming, but he does feel it when a sudden scene of safety flows through him. Being the safes he’s felt in a long time combined with the fact he hasn’t slept in a few days he falls asleep in Jason’s arms

Tim now has his second soul second soul bond (he doesn’t let Alfred patch him up and Bruce never touches him outside of training which involves gloves so no real contact has been made.)

Running into Nightwing

Some time later after Jason’s attack on the tower, Jason runs into Nightwing. Nightwing is justifiably angry with him. All he knows is that this crime lord attacked his baby brother.

Que another fight where Jason only fights half heartedly. Dick gets Jason pinned mid fight where he find his soul bond with his dead brother on this crime lord. Confusion takes hold which leads to a verbal spar and eventually to a heart to heart.

Yes his brother has really returned from the dead. Nightwing traps the red hood in one of his infamous octopus hugs and cries. Jason kinda awkwardly pats his brothers back as he realizes just how much he was missed. He’s not ready to face Bruce yet, and Dick won’t force him to.

Jason, Tim, and Dick have weekly meet ups and brotherly bonding sessions. This usually results in nap times and the best sleeps any of them have.

Grandpa

A few weeks later when the bat was away Dick and Tim some how convinced Jason to come visit Alfred

Alfred being Alfred, he already knows something has been making his grand babies happier than normal, he thought it was a new friend or a soul bond. In a way he was right he just didn’t guess it was his lost grand baby returning home.

It’s not often Alfred had a greyed bond return return its color. Hugs, tears, and mandatory tea time.

Alfred now occasionally joins the bat boys on their weekly get togethers

Tim gets his third soul bond when Jason drags him into a group hug. Alfred is more than happy to have Tim as an official soul grand baby even if he has already considered him as one.

Facing the bat

It’s been a few months and Bruce is going crazzy trying to figure who the red hood is and what does he want.

After a long day of hunting Bruce returns to the cave early only to find the red hood there. He appears to having tea with Alfred. Whats going on? Oh Tim and Dick are here too.

It’s not often the big bad bat is stunned into total silence but boy did Jason get a good laugh at his face before promptly freaking out that he’s returned early.

Dick and Alfred explains what’s going one before anything has a chance of going south which leads to a hug.

Damian

Eventually the others notice that Jason has a new soul bond that wasn’t Tim’s and ask who’s it is. Jason explains the brother he’s made with a certain young assassin. This leads to them trying to get Damian early.

A stranger in the house

Everyone is suprised when one day a girl just showed up in their house. They were all weary at first only for her to just walk up and touch their face. Oh, uh… new soul bonds for everyone?

This is how Cass joins the family

SpaceTime is Australia’s most popular and respected astronomy and space science news program – averaging over two million downloads every year. We’re also number five in the United States.  The show reports on the latest stories and discoveries making news in astronomy, space flight, and science.  SpaceTime features weekly interviews with leading Australian scientists about their research.  The show began life in 1995 as ‘StarStuff’ on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s (ABC) NewsRadio network.  Award winning investigative reporter Stuart Gary created the program during more than fifteen years as NewsRadio’s evening anchor and Science Editor.  Gary’s always loved science. He studied astronomy at university and was invited to undertake a PHD in astrophysics, but instead focused on his career in journalism and radio broadcasting. Gary’s radio career stretches back some 34 years including 26 at the ABC. He worked as an announcer and music DJ in commercial radio, before becoming a journalist and eventually joining ABC News and Current Affairs. Hello and Welcome to my grand project - May Their Blood Boil

This Fic originally started out as a small idea, meant to be a small birthday present for @ic3-que3n. And then the idea grew, because I love them and wanted to do something BIG. And then I reached out to multiple artists and friends (a complete list of those involved can be found below.) So, now this is a beast (haha) of a project. At the time of this initial posting, I have 70,000 words written for this fic -- my lovely editors and beta readers are helping to make sure each of those words is ready for uploading!!

Summary

Rebels Rewatch: “Droids In Distress”

Wacky droid hijinks and nostalgia abound, let’s get into it.

Now, this is an episode that for a different show would have been used as the pilot.  It’s got all the earmarks of a weekly serial testing out its tone and character dynamics, while acting with confidence like those are already established.

Note that this isn’t a bad thing.  It reminds me most of Teen Titans’s early Season One, there’s a certain kind of charm and innocence and an earnest attempt at convincing you, “Don’t worry, this will be a FUN show! :D”

Frankly starting off lighter eases you better into the world and characters so when things do get more serious and dramatic later you’re more invested because you’ve had more time to get endeared to the characters.

See also, Star Trek: Lower Decks, which had the audacity to end its Season Two on a cliffhanger, YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE MY SILLY COMFORT SHOW, YOU’RE NOT SUPPOSED TO HAVE STAKES!

Anyway we open rather appropriately In Media Res with the notes of the TIE Fighter Attack track from A New Hope, which auditorily puts us right into that OT headspace. :)

Once again the tight writing very quickly establishes the situation: The Ghost is on the run from the Empire, in need of cash flow and supplies, they have to occasionally run weapons for someone shady, Ezra is Force Sensitive, and--perhaps most importantly for the later story arc--Kanan has been avoiding training him.

Boy I miss concise exposition like this.  So much story is already set up in some densely-worded dialogue.  (Not just Kanan’s reluctance to teach Ezra but also Zeb’s misgivings with working for Vizago given the uncertain nature of the weapons he deals in.)

Also don’t think I missed Ezra being most concerned with the fact that they are running out of food.

RIGHT SO I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW GIDDY I WAS THE FIRST TIME I WATCHED THIS BECAUSE ICKLE MINI TARI LOVED THE STAR TOURS RIDE AT DISNEYWORLD.  Seriously it was one of my top favorites.  Never rode the updated version (haven’t been back to DW in years) but the classic version was iconic for me.

And this is a cameo/Easter Egg that actually works in context because you don’t need to know anything about this droid pilot, he works organically in the story as he is without any background knowledge required.

Unlike many of the other cameos we could name in certain other Star Wars shows *COUGH*.

Threepio and Artoo on the flipside... Okay, I’m not quite sure how to articulate that it still works better than in aforementioned other shows but it does.  Again Imma chalk it up to, they just fit more organically into the plot and around these characters and also advance the bigger plot by introducing a thread that suggests the crew is going to be connected to the larger Rebellion, which pays off this Season Finale... instead of being a sideshow diversion disconnected from the main characters that may or may not make another appearance down the line sometime.  Maybe.

Side note of appreciation for Chopper gleefully taking right to his role of Public Nuisance Annoying Everyone (But Especially Ezra).  I don’t think there was much acting involved for either of them lol.

Still love how bouncy and dynamic the character animation was these early episodes.

Has that fun kid-friendly feel that lures you into a false sense of security lol.

Our first hint at Sabine’s backstory, cleverly hidden as part of her cover story.

I kinda like that Garel is close enough to Lothal that a very small shuttle is able to just ferry people back and forth in like twenty minutes.

One of the nice things about having low-stakes plots in the beginning is it allows room for lovely little breathing scenes like this one with Ezra leaping across the rooftops.  It’s not plot necessary, we could have easily just cut to him arriving at the other hanger, but it’s just... pleasant.

There’s some nice mood music (a very slowed down mellow Main Titles theme), some very mild action, and we feel a satisfied little thrill along with Ezra seeing just what he’s capable of already just knowing that he’s Force Sensitive.  This is the first time he’s consciously tapped into the Force and it’s just a little bit exciting.

Just look at his face gkjhgkjh I’m so proud of him and all he did was some parkour.

Subtle animation detail appreciation: Zeb visibly shudders backing away from the crates.

I love Threepio throwing some indignant shade Sabine’s way with his “[...] if she is an amateur.” line.

We know Zeb is the muscle  of the group, that’s already established, but it’s still obvious in the voice acting and Zeb’s intense tossing of the Stormtroopers that he’s more agitated than normal.

Please enjoy the Fridge Horror of knowing that the Empire was planning to mass-produce T7 ion disruptors and probably not for their starship-crippling properties. :)

Ezra immediately backing off the hostility once he knows why Zeb’s upset. <333  He’s such an empath I love him.

See this is why I don’t understand people who hate Ezra.  Was he a little bratty this episode?  Sure, but also see how he lets that drop out of compassion once he understands the situation.

Also Ahsoka came onto the stage waaaaaaaaay brattier and a smug know-it-all to boot, just admit y’all hate the kid-appeal characters and refuse to let them be stupid and dumb in order to have some character growth.

Hera’s frustration when she hears that Kanan hasn’t been training Ezra. <333

Lol and love how there’s an immediate follow-up in the next scene.  I want to see the beginning of that conversation.

Pryce gets name-dropped here for the first time.  Predictably Threepio is making a muck of things.  See, this is why no one tells you anything or trusts you with the mission Threepio.

Ezra has clearly dealt with underworld figures like Vizago before lol.

I do wonder if all of this is just a massive Batman Gambit by Artoo, because he seems to be completely unfazed by anything that’s happening.

The AT-DPs get quite a bit of focus in this series and I think their ubiquitous presence in the first season preps us mentally for the heavy upgrade that is the AT-ATs.

This music cue when they launch the disruptors is a unique one, particular to only this moment I think, but I like it.

Aaaaaaand the first of many times Kallus gets yeeted with the Force.  Lol.

See Sequel Trilogy, this is the general powerset of someone who only just learned they were Force Sensitive and hasn’t had any training. /salt

Kanan seems very surprised and amazed by what Ezra can already do without any formal guidance.  This’ll play into his insecurities later, his whole thing about how Ezra’s powers are growing faster than he can teach.

I think it’s safe to assume Ezra had a lot of latent natural talent that he’d been unconsciously using this whole time that just needed a tiny push to begin manifesting in earnest.

Again, though, Sequel Trilogy, all we unlock is basic shit like Force Sense, Force Jump, and Force Push.

Not surprising Kanan went to fetch Zeb, he’s about the only one even close to Zeb’s height lol.

More lovely work with the subtle expressions; Kanan’s smile fades and his eyes drop a bit.  Like he realizes, “Oh boy, now I gotta face all my inadequacies and problems.”  Love it.  Love that it’s episode two and we’ve already established so many of the upcoming character arcs.

Luke’s theme closing us out once again, apropos given where we are and who we’re with.

For our first “official” non-pilot episode, this is a solid entry.  As I said, establishes a whole bunch about the characters and their relationship dynamics and upcoming arcs and plot points.  It’s also very fun, sets the general early tone of “Adventure and excitement but not too much... yet.” and the animation continues to impress in small ways, mostly the dynamic shot choices, camera angles and movements and the subtlety of emotion displayed on faces.

Coming back to this one always just leaves me with a warm feeling like, “Aahhh yes, back when everything was innocent.”  It definitely plays up the nostalgic feeling of the OT, which was always one of Rebels’ strengths as a show.

Next time, one of the many “filler” episodes that come back in an important and unexpected way in the finale.  You’d think, given the number of Avatar: The Last Airbender alums on the project, fandom would know better than to discount the seemingly light-hearted low-stakes disconnected episodes. XD

i thiiiink my favorite ongoing series is jujutsu kaisen :o i read the manga updates weekly! one of my fav series because there’s a lot of parallelism and symbolism used throughout the story, and im a sap for satosugu (i preordered their hidden inventory look up figures 😭!!).. although there’s a lot of fair criticism to be made on the story and how the author handles characters but im in too deep rn and am attached to each character .. i could go on abt this but i will stop myself LMAO

but overall, i have to say haikyuu will always have a special place in my heart 😭 my favorite anime since middle school, i forced my entire friend group to watch it LMAO they even got me a sugawara poster for my bday in hs. i love the friendship they develop over the course of the series and the character development is just SO good! and no matter what, the matches are always so good and i get emotional every time i rewatch bc idk . I love this series I’ve rewatched it too many times at this point.. im finally getting around to finishing the manga though , ive been avoiding it bc i do not want it to ever end 😭😭😭

In honor of aot/snk ending tomorrow,

and being a fan for over 10 years, I wanted to share how I started aot-

June 26th, 2013 - I was at a friend's house for a sleepover. they had all fallen asleep but i couldn't for whatever reason. my dashboard was full of gifs and art of Mikasa but i had no idea who she was, or what series she was from because no one was tagging their stuff lmao . so i searched and searched and finally found a post tagged "snk", so i immediately looked it up and found shingeki no kyojin. fast forward to that night of the sleepover, i decided to start it while everyone was asleep. i was under a huge blanket with my earbuds and i ended up watching the first 13 episodes that day. i was immediately hooked. i remember the latest episode that had come out was like 13.5 (that recap episode) and eventually i started watching weekly.

by the time we got to the female titan arc, i couldn't wait for updates weekly anymore and started reading the manga - and the rest is history.

10 years later i now have 2 attack on titan tattoos and this story has impacted me so much. i grew up with these characters, laughed with them, and cried with them . and now it all ends tomorrow. I've cried a lot this week knowing that the end is coming. of course i finished the manga years ago, but now that it will be animated and i will go through another round of grief - it hurts. but a part of me feels ready for it.

After defeating every other team in the competition at least once, they would become the first team to defeat the Crusaders three times in a single season.

The Chiefs outperformed every other club in the round-robin in terms of points scored and allowed. With nine front-line players out, their lone defeat came at the hands of the Reds by a score of three. After a 27-phase attack that lasted far into extra time, they came close to scoring a try to win the game.

Hello and Happy November!

@books-take-flight and I had to postpone finishing Cinder because I had a Halloween party that was taking up a lot of my time, but I ended up reading a lot of manga, especially after Halloween (I’m sorry!!). So we plan on finishing it this week. And I also hope to read Our Dreams at Dusk, it’s caught my eye for a while now and I’m really excited to see how it turns out.

I got to read a lot of manga this week, but a couple of my favorites were I Want to Eat Your Pancreas, Candy Color Paradox, and Kase-san.

I have FINALLY got to read I Want to Eat Your Pancreas! It was SO sad and I already want to reread it! Sakura and our main character are such an inspiring duo as she learns to live with her fatal pancreatic disease.

Candy Color Paradox is a quick, addicting read. The characters’ polar opposite personalities are not only incredibly entertaining, but they help give the characters depth and give the reader a story easy to immerse themselves in.

And I’m more than stoked to be able to get further in Kase-san! I was worried that, since I had a long break between reading volumes 1 & 2, it wouldn’t hold up to my high opinion of it, but seeing Kase-san and Yamada fall in love is still one of the sweetest stories I’ve read! I can’t wait to read more of this sugar sweet romance!

The Onus of Birth

Eren’s reaction to those final words, “I have already been born into this world”, is evocative of our own as they immediately bring our minds back to Eren’s fiery declaration in chapter 14.

Eren’s longing for freedom has always been, rather than a curiosity and ardour like Armin’s, more of a sense of indignation and righteous entitlement for a world that he has been deprived of. It is not a matter of pleasure, but of justice. As such, to him his quest for freedom is a duty that must be fulfilled no matter what, regardless of any personal reluctance he might come to feel. 

This outlook on his purpose in the world reached its natural and bloody conclusion in Chapter 100. As he says himself, Eren grew attached to the Marleyans during his time in hiding, and his lack of any grudge against Reiner, the most guilty of them all in Eren’s personal tragedy, proves he bore them no ill will whatsoever. He struggles to even believe he could have said such violent things towards Reiner in the past.

But despite the obvious personal reluctance, Eren never viewed his mission as a personal decision, but as a duty. Just like with Reiner. Even after breaking bread with the Marleyans, he still possesses the will to kill their innocents if his duty demands it. This is all part of Eren’s Warriorfication; as the lines blur between good and evil, our heroes slide slowly into the moral darkness of their Warrior counterparts.

Throughout the series, Eren has received lesson after brutal lesson in his inability to be the kind of hero that both he and Reiner wanted to be. From his inadequacy in training, to seeing bright-eyed children watch as he is carried back on a stretcher in defeat, to realising that the monsters he had been killing were people all along, and then vitally, his revelation in the Crystal Cave that his very existence is a hindrance to peace and stability in the Walls. It is Historia’s exhortation to live freely and for his own sake that allows him to move past this existential blockade, and enables him to continue with the much simpler desire of helping the people he cares about; something we’ve seen with his disobedience in order to save Armin and his silence in order to save Historia.

However, it’s not so simple as that. The memory of Faye reminds Eren that in the world he lives in, there can never be true freedom or security for the people he cares about until the enemies are no longer knocking at their gates. Eren knows now that he’s not The Hero. But his duty has not changed, so far as in he must destroy the enemy. It is the combination of these two convictions that has led to this explosive result. While Eren has become a wiser, more open-minded and more forgiving person, it is the very disintegration of his overly severe moral boundaries that are leading him towards the same actions he once judged. No longer needing to be The Hero, he is willing to resort to ruthless measures to end these tragedies once and for all. Even if that means repeating them. In no longer hating Reiner, he is allowing himself to become more like him.

One of the absolutely brilliant things about this arc is how completely it has flipped over the perspective we’ve been accustomed to. In panels like below, Falco, the naive but good-hearted and self-sacrificing boy, seems so much like our hero, whereas Eren, the deceitful terrorist Titan making a war veteran sweat buckets and threatening to kill a building full of innocents above, would seem absolutely like the villain of the story had we not followed him from the start. 

(Reiner’s reaction to Falco’s words here is also interesting, as he is surely remembering Eren’s words to him to the same effect, and is yet another example of how Eren is becoming more like Reiner.)

In Chapter 1, our protagonist watched as a Titan appeared out of nowhere and shattered the town’s peace, leaving blood and rubble in its wake. In Chapter 100, our protagonist is now in the Titan’s shoes.

But, to go back to the beginning, it is Willy’s speech that gives Eren the courage to do what he feels he must. Willy’s speech updates the fiery passion of Eren’s first affirmation of his birthright to his current understanding of it - he must seek freedom because he was born in this world, yes, but that is a tragic thing. It is a burden. His duty is not a passion, but an agonising labour. Tears are in Willy’s eyes as he says it. Eren likewise is surrounded by a miasma of despair as the conversation unfolds - it is why he needs to keep reminding himself that he must move forward. 

The reminder comes right after he links both his and Reiner’s fates to their birth - destined for tragedy and destruction because of the burden that simply living in this distorted world places on them. Like Willy, Eren too felt incredible despair at his own existence in the Crystal Cave.

So when he hears Willy, who has clearly reached the same conclusion he has, still make the argument for destroying the enemy, he can’t help but take those words to heart too.

He gives a knowing, sad kind-of half-smile, closes his eyes in resolution...and acts.

Isayama masterfully sets Eren’s decisions in context without even needing to get inside his head by projecting his psychological space around him through the way that Reiner and Willy parallel him, and thus establishing exactly how the very same problems lie at the heart of all these characters’ opposite yet strikingly similar walks of life. The problems of peace, and the problems of freedom, in a world that denies them either.

Eren’s destructive solution to these problems can’t possibly put a stop to the cycle of violence. But the question is, will our heroes realise the fate they’re marching to and pull themselves out of it? Or will they fall headlong into becoming the monsters they swore to destroy?

3 months before the wedding

It was a quiet night on the Greek island of Kalokairi. All of the residents were sound asleep except for one: Sasha Zoe. 

Sasha was rowing her boat towards the nearby island of Skiathos with a mission. She felt many emotions go through her as she got closer to the island. 

She felt excited and very nervous at the same time. Sasha began to hum a song her mom sang to her as a child to help calm herself down.

She finally makes it to the port and docks her boat before locating the mailbox. Sasha quietly hums to herself again as she makes her way to the yellow mailbox. The mailbox is the key to the answer to her ongoing question. 

She takes a deep breath when she reaches the mailbox, gives herself a short pep talk, opens it, and looks over the letters one last time.

Levi Ackerman rushed out of Cafe Kuchel when his shift ended and put his best employee, Eld, in charge while he was away. He met his butler/personal driver, Gunther, standing outside of his car before hastily throwing his things to the car and heading to Frankfurt Airport for his flight. 

Now Levi is typically a well kept and organized guy, but now was not the time to think about his appearance when his mind is full of Hange Zoe. 

Yes, Hange Zoe. The woman he consciously met when Levi booked a random flight to Greece to escape responsibilities back home. It was a bit selfish of him to do, but Levi was tired of everyone constantly breathing down his neck when he wanted some peace. 

He knew of Kalokairi thanks to his cousin, Furlan, who took his wife, Isabel, there on vacation a few years ago. 

Levi met Hange while he was in Skiathos. She introduced herself first and Levi only gave her his first name. He didn’t want to reveal his last name to her yet. Hange told Levi how she wanted to go to Kalokairi because her cousin often visited the island. Levi. not wanting to give too much away, told Hange how he was on vacation to have some peace. 

Hange suggested they explore the island together. Levi was surprised that she practically invited a total stranger to hang out with her. 

‘Her vision must be really shitty’ he thought but agreed after seeing the cute look on her face.

They both got to know more about each other on the ferry, and they clicked really well. Hange would go on and on about her dreams, and Levi was there to listen. 

Levi didn't show it, but he was interested in hearing Hange talk. He could listen to her for hours.

It was then when Levi knew he didn’t regret saying yes to her offer. He decided to take her to a few spots Furlan mentioned. One spot was a private beach on the island Furlan and Isabel accidentally found one day. 

Hange and Levi spent 12 days together exploring the island and getting to know more about each other. Soon enough they both started to fall in love with one another.  

Levi cannot forget the special night he spent with Hange. To him, it felt like a dream, and he never wanted to wake up. 

Of course, he had no choice but to when he saw Hange’s heartbroken face that day. Levi was ready to beg on his knees and ask for her forgiveness, but Hange practically kicked him out of the island. She threw his stuff out of her house and yelled about how she never wanted to see him again before slamming the door on his face. Hange left him no choice but to return home with his broken heart. 

As Levi looked out the window, he couldn’t stop thinking about the letter and why it took Hange so many years to finally reach out. Did she forgive him? Is she planning on humiliating him when they meet again? He felt like he deserved it anyway.

Levi started thinking about the mysterious Sasha Zoe. It’s obvious she is Hange’s kid, but who is the father? More importantly, where is he, so he can beat him up. 

Gunther glanced up at the rearview mirror to find Levi glaring at everything passing by. What he didn’t see was Levi's determination to get his answer from Hange one way or another. First, he needs Gunther to drive faster.

“Speed up,” Levi says before going back to thinking about Hange again.

His mom once told him to live his life with no regrets. The thing is, Levi only has one regret, and it was letting Hange Zoe walk out of his life that day.

New York City (NYC), USA

2 before the wedding

Erwin Smith held his suitcase in hand as he navigated his way through the JFK airport to get to his flight to Skiathos in Greece. He thought about Hange as he made it to the gate and sat down. They met when he visited Kalokairi after the suggestion made by his colleague, Dot Pixis. Apparently, Pixis bought him a 5-day pass to Kalokairi so Erwin can take a vacation from college and go to Greece. 

Erwin had a feeling Pixis had an unsaid plan for him to see the beautiful women there.

Erwin quietly laughed to himself at the thought. Pixis wasn’t technically wrong when he said there were beautiful women in Kalokairi. It was where he met Hange while on his vacation. Erwin reminisces on how lost he was on the island and knew no Greek at all. It was then when Hange approached him with her yellow crop top and high waisted forest green palazzo pants. She asked if he was lost and offered to be his guide and translator. 

Soon enough, Erwin fell in love with her free-spirited personality and how her smile can attract anyone to look at her. He even got to spend the night with her on the fourth day.

Sadly, all good things had to go to an end, and Erwin had to return back to NYC. Erwin would never forget how devastated Hange looked when he announced his departure. He gives Hange his great grandfather’s emerald bolo tie on his last day in Kalokairi.

“Take this, Hange. I kept this bolo tie with me for luck. I hope this gives you luck and you can look at it to remember me.” Erwin kissed Hange one last time before heading to the ferry. 

It wasn’t until he spent one whole day in his penthouse in NYC that Erwin realized he needed to see Hange again. 

Erwin booked tickets to Skiathos that morning and was back on Skiathos the next morning. Erwin makes it to the port to find Hange on the island too. However, she was on a yacht with another guy and didn’t notice Erwin at all. He noticed her hug him, kiss his cheek, and give the mystery guy the same smile she used with him. It broke Erwin's heart and he thought she already forgot about him.

(Little did he know that Hange kept the bolo tie in the pocket of the dress she was wearing for luck)

Erwin thought he was lucky when she didn’t notice him. She didn't have to see his broken heart as he left the port to go back to NYC. 

Erwin sometimes wondered what would have happened had he left for Greece earlier. He was shocked when received the letter after so many years. The biggest mystery was being invited to a wedding, especially when he didn't personally know the bride. 

He had a feeling the bride was Hange’s daughter. The unanswered question was who is Sasha’s father? Was it the mystery guy he saw Hange with or another man?

Erwin sighed at the thought as he made his way through the gates and into the plane. He knows he may not get Hange’s heart again, but he hopes to at least see Hange’s smile one more time.  

Gothenburg, Sweden

2 days before the wedding

Mike Zacharias was texting his friend Gelgar before his flight to Skiathos. He planned on visiting his grandmother’s grave in Kalokairi after the mystery wedding he was invited to.

He found it strange that Hange invited him to a wedding when he doesn’t know the couple getting married. However, Mike noticed how Sasha had the same last name as Hange, so he decided to attend to investigate.

“I hope Hange has the answer.” Mike thought to himself 

Mike started to reminisce about Hange and how close she was to his grandma. It was almost 21 years ago when he visited his Kalokairi, and he remembered how his grandma couldn’t stop talking about a woman named Hange every time he called her. Mike decided to search for her the next time he visited Kalokairi.

Mike was at Skiathos heading to his yacht while also thinking about Hange. He was too caught up thinking about her that he accidentally bumped into a woman and caused her to fall and drop a few things from the impact. He picked her up from the ground while the other women that were with her picked up the items she dropped. 

Mike apologized and introduced himself after they cleaned up their mess. Hange introduced herself and her friends Nanaba and Rico. 

“You're the one helping Alexandra Zacharias, right?” Mike asked

“That’s me!” Hange replied happily “You must be her grandson Mike. Mrs. Sasha talks about you often!”

Mike realized that his grandmother must trust Hange a lot to reveal her nickname from when she lived in Russia. If his grandma can trust Hange, then he should too. 

“Let me help you carry everything to my yacht, and bring you back to Kalokairi as an apology for earlier” Mike insisted

“That’s perfect!” the three girls exclaim happily before following Mike to his yacht.

(Mike also noted how Hange smelled like white musk and vanilla. Nanaba had a fruity smell, and Rico had a woody oriental smell). 

Mike couldn’t forget Hange's smile before she hugged him and kissed his cheek after they left the port. 

Once they reached Kalokairi, Mike accompanied the girls to his grandma’s villa to help drop off her stuff. They ate dinner at the villa and the girls listened to his grandma tell embarrassing stories of Mike as a child.

After dinner, Mike took the girls to a bar he used to frequent after giving his grandma’s caretaker instructions while they were out. The group spent most of the night at the bar while getting to know more about each other, sharing stories, and having fun. 

At the end of the night, Mike walked the girls back to Hange’s house as they were exhausted for the day. Hange, who didn't look tired, didn't want to sleep just yet, so Mike invited Hange to his yacht to explore more of Kalokairi. They learned more about each other like why Hange was in Kalokairi and how she met his grandma. He also learned about her dreams of visiting other countries and discovering new flora and fauna. In turn, Mike told her about how his parents would visit the island every year for vacation, and his own stories about visiting other countries.

“Just do it.” Hange had told him “You look like a guy who would be free rather than staying indoors.” 

Hange’s words had deeply moved Mike, and he started to fall for her.

Hange and Mike took nightly yacht trips for 6 days and spent the night together on the final day before Mike had to go back to Gothenburg

Mike remembers seeing Hange cry before he left. He didn’t want to leave, but his parents needed him back in Sweden. 

Mike hugged his grandma one last time (little did he know that she would pass away a few months later) and kissed Hange’s forehead before wishing her farewell.

Mike visited Kalokairi once after his grandma died. He never saw Hange during the trip and didn't ask because everyone was busy grieving.

Mike was sitting in his home in Sweden when he remembered his grandmother’s last words to him. 

“Go out and explore the world, Mike. Write about your adventures and share them with everyone.” He also remembered Hange’s words the day they met and decided to become an adventurer/author. 

Mike smiled to himself after remembering how he wouldn’t be where he is today without Hange. He only hopes that she has an explanation for the mysterious letter he got a few months ago. 

Mike knew Sasha was Hange’s daughter the moment he saw her name. He thought it was sweet of Hange to name her after his late grandmother (he assumed she did). Although he may not be Hange’s husband, Mike wanted to at least meet Sasha. 

‘She might have a similar personality to grandma’ Mike thought before he heard the announcement to start boarding. 

‘First’ Mike thought as he stood up and grabbed his things to board 'I should thank Hange for everything’

I decided to not use the music from Mamma Mia in case of copyright, and I'm not a fan of throwing in lyrics throughout a fic.

There are some characters that have not appeared in Season 4 anime, but will appear later on. There are no plot spoilers.

Niccolo does not have a surname, so I used the surname of the Italian chef Massimo Bottura (yes, I made Niccolo Italian)

For the sake of the fic (and me trying to be somewhat accurate to real life), I mention the island Skiathos which is the closest to Skopelos (the island the movie was filmed at) geographically. It's the fastest way to reach the island by ferry

I decided on making Erwin as an American (because of Chris Evans lol), Levi as a German, and Mike Swedish. I chose their ethnicities based on looks and name origin.

I based Hange’s scent on her perfume. Apparently that exists and I didn’t know. It is canon Nanaba has a fruity smell, and I gave Rico the woody oriental smell because I don’t think fruity or floral would work for her. 

Fun fact: Sasha is a nickname for Alexandra!

I based the wedding invite on a random one I found on Google. It does come with an RSVP card, but I didn’t mention it in the fic. The formatting might look weird because idk how to set text in the middle here
