The cool thing about my workplace is that even if it can’t adhere to the “if something can’t be done in a 40 hour workweek/8 hour workday it’s not worth doing” principle because the science waits for no one, especially when it’s fish science that relies on hitting the right weather and tidal cycles, they do make amends for it, even though we’re salaried.

It’s more like “We recognize that you have had to work 15 extra hours this week to get our surveys done. We’re sorry about that. Here are 20 hours of paid leave to make up for it. Please take them at your leisure.”

So yes. I’m working overtime when we’re in Go Mode, but when things settle? I do get compensated for it by being allowed to skip work. It’s why I’m able to take so much time off and leave early on office days and stuff, and I’m frankly kind of ok with that.

The way I wrote my first fic was inspired by my fav writer and even tho I wrote it in a day, the editing part took WAY too long. A measly 1k words fic. THREE DAYS. After three entire days, the fic had changed completely. English is not my first language and I found the confidence in my skills diminish with each sentence I wrote. I must say...even though I'm pretty okay with the result, I'll be taking an easier approach with my future attempts from now on;;

Alright, I I feel like I've hit my groove with the way I approach reading now, I've been reading a lot and having fun with it, which is great, but there are two things that I want to stop doing this year.

One -- Slowly ease off on rating books. I don't know if I'm going to abandon the rating system entirely, but I want to start doing that less and less. Mostly because it feels restrictive, and also, I feel like it might end up damaging the way I view books. I don't rate the TV shows that I watch, I don't rate movies, or video games, and I didn't rate books when I was younger, so why am I doing it now? Because of social media? It doesn't really add anything and most of the time I find myself second-guessing the ratings; it doesn't really promote healthy reading to me because I find myself getting caught up in what rating I'm going to give the book as I read, which I don't like.

Two -- I'm not going to track my reading streak anymore. I don't really care about reading streaks because my previous experience with them ended with me feeling stressed out. I don't want my hobbies to stress me out. But when I use shit like storygraph and goodreads it sort of encourages me to log my daily reading and see how many pages I'm reading and how many days in a row I've read, etc. and I'm not fucking with that anymore. I'll read when I want to and I'm only logging when I start and finish books.

Basically, I went to get back to the way I used to be when I read for fun when I was a kid
