i saw someone describe FF16's storytelling as everything they hated about FF14's storytelling, and

i am (1) intrigued by this description, if any FF14 enjoyers/haters can confirm? and

(2) i absolutely have a selfish fox-and-the-grapes interest in this statement being true, because i've spent years with everyone telling me FF14 Is So Great Lua You'll Love It So Much The Story Is So Good Just Try It Out Join Our Server, and i've resisted because i don't have several hundred spare hours to pour into an MMO, but. if it turns out it's NOT EVEN THAT GOOD i can rid myself of fomo forever

This 4th of July I’m stealing the patriotism euphoria that’s usually associated with assholes idolizing the worst attributes of this country because fuck ‘em I live here too and remembering the things this country actually got Right is an important exercise when trying to rally anyone to want to defend it in November SO putting my money where my mouth is I’ll start easy and say I really like National Parks!! It’s rad how many of them there are and how they’re actual set up to preserve some of the most beautiful wild areas in our country while still letting people visit to enjoy and experience nature!! (Less important but I love how they put national parks on the quarters I think that’s real fun)

Feel free to add on if something speaks to ya!

#The hypothesis I’m testing here is that remembering there are good things now and then can combat apathy a little bit #and this is the one day of the year where everyone has a free pass to say nice things about the US so!#some other fun freebies:#public libraries are really cool!! Love visiting them and I should do that way more #bit of a funnier one but I think our interstate highways are really nice #like I’d love trains too but it’s really cool how you can travel the whole country relatively easily like it’s all pretty connected #I love how women have equal rights! We’re backsliding a little right now which is why it’s so important to latch onto this now!#I love how we don’t have a draft- this one might point to some other issues in the country #but at least from a surface level it’s great that military service isn’t mandatory #If you aren’t in the US and still want to play go for it!#today I’m encouraging everyone to pick at least one little positive thing they like #and then down the line if you’re wondering why voting matters at all #maybe remember that little thing y’know #Do it for the national parks and the libraries and gay marriage and stuff #humming-rambles #anyways that’s my social experiment for the day hope y’all get to see some fun fireworks later!

there is not enough femslash in batcest circles. the girls deserve to be just as weird about each other as the boys are. if BruDick gets to be weird father/son/brothers/lovers/friends/rivals/soulmates then it is only fair that Babs/Cass get to be mother/daughter/sisters/lovers too. Something about that deep intrinsic but undefinable love that is born out of trauma, especially if you consider Cass not knowing what healthy love looks like in the first place. i think it's fun and deserves just as much fandom content.

besides that, you can get even more niche with rarepairs like Helena/Steph. Huntress/Spoiler: Blunt Trauma is already a fantastic comic and even though it's their only real canon interaction it has so much potential. very comparable to TimJay in how Helena tries to get Steph to understand her morals and the corruption you could play with it.

that comic also highlights on how both Steph and Helena are outcasts of the Batfamily and don't have the approval of Bruce to be doing what they do in "his city". I think there's so much Potential in Helena taking Steph under her wing because Bruce won't let her in and it becomes a weird codependent toxic sapphic mess. I think the protectiveness Helena feels over Steph from the get-go is so clear and the way she wants to look out for Steph, wants to make sure Steph understands the real world? I love them. Helena should be allowed to steal Steph, actually. I think it'd be fun.

there are a lot of other possibilities too like Babs/Steph or even getting weird with Helena Bertinelli/Helena Wayne and the existential question of "is it selfcest or not." But these two specifically live in my head rent-free, especially Helena/Steph and one day I'll convince everyone else to ship it too.

People love ragging on Catholics on this site (fast free and easy like river water socks) but I think it’s extra funny y’all seem to think Catholics are some sort of sex prudes. Like, if a Catholic man does not give his wife an orgasm he is failing his sworn duties as a husband. I did not endure polite insinuations that my parents fucked often and well to have as many kids as they have for you to act like any self respecting Catholic is a celibate virgin. and here’s the last of my fab four revamped designs!! i knew i needed to leave ghoul for last because 1. he’s my favorite and it would motivate me to get all of them done and 2. i knew his tattoos were going to be a challenge so i wanted the rest done first :]

the only new addition to his tattoos is the little bunny with a bomb on his shoulder, with thanks to my friends on discord who suggested a bunny for a filler piece, and to mikey @/sparklingtapwater because he’s done a similar design before so the inspo is definitely there 👍 for a (nearly) complete rundown of all his tattoos, here’s a post i made about it!

in dazai's jjk verse it mainly centres around him being in the same year group as geto and gojo, namely because in bsd dazai is shown to be around the same age if not exactly in 2005. but having him born after gojo means that his existence is a direct conflict and result of gojo's own birth as within the same year the strongest sorcerer was born, so was the strongest anti-sorcerer (???) at least as far as cursed energy nullification goes, dazai exists to counteract gojo's existence in some sense.

#⸌ ⋆ ooc.#at least this is what i've talked abt with kae sooo at least. it exist there in the very lease sense #dazai had a similarly sheltered upbringing but after several attempts at running away he was instead placed in tokyo tech in the hopes they #would be able to better manage him there. his great-uncle is one of jujutsu headquarter's higher-ups and as such there have been vast #experimentations as to how far dazai's cursed energy nullification can go - namely: if by touching a sorcerer's soul he can rid them of #their cursed energy completely. no longer human exists as his domain only where his cursed technique is just the nullification #i just think its fun to explore whatever rimbaud was on about in bsd when he said dazai's ability had no peers in the west and no rivals #the same is said for his jjk verse - your best anti-sorcerer weapon is friends with this era's strongest sorcerer like you're all doomed #but mhm. it exists as still having to be activated by touch so you just know this kid is covered in scrapes and bruises #but as someone proficient in evasive techniques he's usually paired with someone more suited to hand to hand combat #haha. anyway i just love his jjk verse

Speaking of growing, Dire Wolf has reached double digits!!! Hooray! She's acquired the "cat person" trait from growing up around Salvatore, Cecil, and our new phoenix owlcat, Cannibal (I swear that name was randomly generated).

Vasso and Euclid have been working away on some wholesome, family-friendly research to amuse themselves while we prepare for the next leg of our journey towards the starship.

DOS2 combat gets easier once you realise that it's not just about getting enemies' HP to 0, but you need to do everything in your power so that enemy NPCs don't get to do anything when it's their turn.

When they have no armour at all, neither physical nor magic, they're an easy target, because there's a wide variety of ways to stop them - knockdown, stun, charm, freeze, sleep, petrification, etc.

I've learned that there's often no point spreading the damage between physical and magic if you can help it, because it just makes chewing through both kinds of armour take longer (unless you have to, of course).

When they have much less physical armour than magic, then you wear them down with physical attacks, until they have no physical armour left, then knock them down or turn them into a chicken. Atrophy can be helpful against melee combatants, but not 100% reliable.

When they have much less magic armour than physical, you zap them with magic until there's no magic armour left, then freeze them, or stun, or petrify, or charm, or put them to sleep, etc. Plenty of options there.

And when they also have the Perseverance talent (the most annoying one ever), so you don't want to stun them or knock them down, because the talent makes their physical and magic armour regenerate after most disabling statuses, guess what - IT'S CHICKEN TIME! THE CHICKEN CLAW SPELL STILL WORKS! Oh, the chicken form has timed out? MORE CHICKEN TIME! Learn Chicken Claw. And always carry some back up Chicken Claw scrolls. Not even the biggest dragon or the meanest demon can hurt you when it's a chicken. 👍🐔

#Divinity #Divinity: Original Sin 2 #DOS2 #DISABLING STATUSES ARE EVERYTHING IN THIS GAME #I suppose it goes without saying it's good to right-click and examine some enemies for resistances and immunities and talents #the problem is when you get on the level where enemies have like at least 2000 in each armour type #but the rule still applies anyway #deciding who attacks who according to their most prominent type of armour #don't get me started on countering statuses like always making sure you can fortify decaying friends #or peace of mind for when they're charmed or terrified #or frost armour for when they're stunned #or first aid when they're knocked down #or...#and then there's combining various damage types for different effects #like if an enemy is shocked you can just throw a water balloon at them to make them stunned because water + electricity is good #or when an enemy is wet you can easily freeze them because those effects also combine #ah I love the combat in this game like a lot #BG3 combat is really good and fun imo but DOS2 is even better

just had an idea out of nowhere for a d&d campaign that takes place really widespread across the continent? world? whatever and has the players visit a handful of specific areas in different parts of the world so they go to like the jungle and then the desert and then the snow and mountains and then the ocean or w/e and each region has it's own little intricacies and whatnot a little dungeon. a little local mystery. and there's always like a blacksmith and a temple and a druid guild or w/e, and then it turns out eventually that the druids from each region have been communicating and they've been working together to subtly manipulate the wildlife in their ecosystem to essentially wipe out certain areas and take control of the continent and in the boss fight they would all summon creatures from their different specialties so there's like rock golems and polar bears and fish monsters and desert lizard people.

#is this an interesting idea or did i just steal it from something #and it's actually really basic and popular and im just forgetting?#anyway.#i think at least I've had a weird breakthrough in an understanding of how to worldbuild #which is not something I have ever been interested in doing for/via d&d at all #but literally out of nowhere I was like. I've deciphered the code. I know the steps. I see the matrix.#and I think it might be really fun to try to develop names and stories for all these different places #and design combat encounters with thematic monsters based on ecosystem #im a huge fucking nerd #anyway. maybe that would rip.
