i saw someone describe FF16's storytelling as everything they hated about FF14's storytelling, and

i am (1) intrigued by this description, if any FF14 enjoyers/haters can confirm? and

(2) i absolutely have a selfish fox-and-the-grapes interest in this statement being true, because i've spent years with everyone telling me FF14 Is So Great Lua You'll Love It So Much The Story Is So Good Just Try It Out Join Our Server, and i've resisted because i don't have several hundred spare hours to pour into an MMO, but. if it turns out it's NOT EVEN THAT GOOD i can rid myself of fomo forever

sorry thinking about this because of a reddit post (never a good sign lol) but the fact that da2 and dav actually have really similar approaches to romance but one works well and the other falls completely flat needs to be studied. i think the issue is that even though you could argue they have similar levels of content (no repeatable kisses, only a handful of cutscenes), da2 hides bits and pieces of extra development in its quests that make the chosen romance feel like it has a presence in hawke's life, while dav romances feel almost like they disappear whenever a scene isn't specifically about the companion / romance. tiny moments like aveline judging hawke on their choice of partner or the romanced companion comforting hawke after leandra's death all add up to make it feel more significant and constant throughout the game. if you're lucky with dav's romances you'll get a banter and an extra cutscene but the time between locking in and the cutscenes in act three gets EXTREMELY dry.

some ultrakill fans flaming people for playing on lenient/harmless is so funny to me because here i am in my little corner playing on harmless with Also 100% damage reduction (in major assist settings) because my severe anxiety cannot handle the idea of me taking any damage at all . i am wearing my propeller hat and eating my lollipop and i am having fun :3 (and maybe one day i can ease that anxiety and play without major assists)

This 4th of July I’m stealing the patriotism euphoria that’s usually associated with assholes idolizing the worst attributes of this country because fuck ‘em I live here too and remembering the things this country actually got Right is an important exercise when trying to rally anyone to want to defend it in November SO putting my money where my mouth is I’ll start easy and say I really like National Parks!! It’s rad how many of them there are and how they’re actual set up to preserve some of the most beautiful wild areas in our country while still letting people visit to enjoy and experience nature!! (Less important but I love how they put national parks on the quarters I think that’s real fun)

there is not enough femslash in batcest circles. the girls deserve to be just as weird about each other as the boys are. if BruDick gets to be weird father/son/brothers/lovers/friends/rivals/soulmates then it is only fair that Babs/Cass get to be mother/daughter/sisters/lovers too. Something about that deep intrinsic but undefinable love that is born out of trauma, especially if you consider Cass not knowing what healthy love looks like in the first place. i think it's fun and deserves just as much fandom content.

besides that, you can get even more niche with rarepairs like Helena/Steph. Huntress/Spoiler: Blunt Trauma is already a fantastic comic and even though it's their only real canon interaction it has so much potential. very comparable to TimJay in how Helena tries to get Steph to understand her morals and the corruption you could play with it.

that comic also highlights on how both Steph and Helena are outcasts of the Batfamily and don't have the approval of Bruce to be doing what they do in "his city". I think there's so much Potential in Helena taking Steph under her wing because Bruce won't let her in and it becomes a weird codependent toxic sapphic mess. I think the protectiveness Helena feels over Steph from the get-go is so clear and the way she wants to look out for Steph, wants to make sure Steph understands the real world? I love them. Helena should be allowed to steal Steph, actually. I think it'd be fun.

there are a lot of other possibilities too like Babs/Steph or even getting weird with Helena Bertinelli/Helena Wayne and the existential question of "is it selfcest or not." But these two specifically live in my head rent-free, especially Helena/Steph and one day I'll convince everyone else to ship it too.

and here’s the last of my fab four revamped designs!! i knew i needed to leave ghoul for last because 1. he’s my favorite and it would motivate me to get all of them done and 2. i knew his tattoos were going to be a challenge so i wanted the rest done first :]

the only new addition to his tattoos is the little bunny with a bomb on his shoulder, with thanks to my friends on discord who suggested a bunny for a filler piece, and to mikey @/sparklingtapwater because he’s done a similar design before so the inspo is definitely there 👍 for a (nearly) complete rundown of all his tattoos, here’s a post i made about it!

in dazai's jjk verse it mainly centres around him being in the same year group as geto and gojo, namely because in bsd dazai is shown to be around the same age if not exactly in 2005. but having him born after gojo means that his existence is a direct conflict and result of gojo's own birth as within the same year the strongest sorcerer was born, so was the strongest anti-sorcerer (???) at least as far as cursed energy nullification goes, dazai exists to counteract gojo's existence in some sense.

I had to open the ship combat rules doc I made for Rook's campaign the other day, and man, that thing was (and still is tbh) my fucking magnum opus. I put so much effort into creating rules for a type of combat that dnd doesn't naturally support, and it was SUCH a fun challenge. I'll admit it's not perfect, but it works for our campaign, and everyone seemed to like it during our one test so far, so that's good enough for me.

I think between the stat blocks, the rules themselves, and the maps of the ships, I spent easily 48 hours total on making this sailing arc happen. (No, I'm not the DM, I just like homebrewing shit, and also happen to be the one who decided to play a pirate and make that involved in the story.)

Vasso and Euclid have been working away on some wholesome, family-friendly research to amuse themselves while we prepare for the next leg of our journey towards the starship.
