if a bucktommy endgame is what the writers are gunning for (which i doubt, for better or worse), they're gonna have to flesh tommy out into a fully fledged character. i love tommy, i really do. he's strong and kind and gentle. just what buck needs right now. but in order for me to like him far enough into being endgame, they're gonna have to give him some flaws (no, i am not counting the racism or homophobia in this, that was dealt with before buck came into the picture). i need to see tommy's traumas, his goals, his willingness to change. if we don't get him fleshed out and bucktommy endgame is the direction they want to head in? i'll be very disappointed.

I want to preface this thought by saying that I didn't read a lot of comics that featured Dick when I still actively read things that were in circulation at the time. The last time I really kept up with comics that were regularly published was 2011, shortly after the New 52 reboot, and I ended up giving up on comics because of the reboot. So I don't know a whole lot about Dick pre-New 52 or post-New 52. I get a lot of my information from the DC Wiki and fans who've more closely followed those storylines in other series.
That said, I just feel like Dick is the sort of older sibling to look at you, realize you're having a bad day, and ask you if you'd like to make no-bake cookies together. He'll reason with you that this is the best possible way to fix your bad day. The oven isn't involved, so there's no timer to set that can be promptly forgotten, ergo no real danger of burning the house down. The making of the batter is messy and delicious and he'll teach you the right ratio of peanut butter to cocoa powder that'll get them just sweet enough but not so sweet your face falls off. Unless you want your face to fall off, that's fine, too. Plus there's an art form to laying out the little soon-to-be cookies on the sheets, you know. And by the time he's finished arguing a point he didn't have to argue, you're both in the kitchen and pulling ingredients out of cabinets and you've sort of forgotten you were even having a bad day. It's just really nice to be here in the presence of someone who isn't going to force you to talk and doesn't pretend to have answers for any of your problems. He just wants to give you something to do with your hands and your brain that'll make a new, happier memory on this otherwise shitty day.

That's why I don't feel comfortable to reveal how much I love the book. People gives you weird looks. Because they usually never read it and don't know it.
But it's a great book. I see the issue. It's really easy to forget that something wrong is going on in waves of poetic description. Alas, you get a lot slaps on the face to wake you. In the book and its story, at least.
“Lolita isn’t a perverse young girl. She’s a poor child who has been debauched and whose senses never stir under the caresses of the foul Humbert Humbert, whom she asks once, ‘how long did [he] think we were going to live in stuffy cabins, doing filthy things together…?’ But to reply to your question: no, its success doesn’t annoy me, I am not like Conan Doyle, who out of snobbery or simple stupidity preferred to be known as the author of “The Great Boer War,” which he thought superior to his Sherlock Holmes. It is equally interesting to dwell, as journalists say, on the problem of the inept degradation that the character of the nymphet Lolita, whom I invented in 1955, has undergone in the mind of the broad public. Not only has the perversity of this poor child been grotesquely exaggerated, but her physical appearance, her age, everything has been transformed by the illustrations in foreign publications. Girls of eighteen or more, sidewalk kittens, cheap models, or simple long-legged criminals, are baptized “nymphets” or “Lolitas” in news stories in magazines in Italy, France, Germany, etc; and the covers of translations, Turkish or Arab, reach the height of ineptitude when they feature a young woman with opulent contours and a blonde mane imagined by boobies who have never read my book. In reality Lolita is a little girl of twelve, whereas Humbert Humbert is a mature man, and it’s the abyss between his age and that of the little girl that produces the vacuum, the vertigo, the seduction of mortal danger. Secondly, it’s the imagination of the sad satyr that makes a magic creature of this little American schoolgirl, as banal and normal in her way as the poet manqué Humbert is in his. Outside the maniacal gaze of Humbert there is no nymphet. Lolita the nymphet exists only through the obsession that destroys Humbert. Herein an essential aspect of a unique book that has been betrayed by a factitious popularity.”
— Vladimir Nabokov (tr. Brian Boyd), Apostrophes (1975)

Also increasingly aware that a LOT of people "manage" getting through the 40+ hour work week by sleeping less than is healthy and relying on stimulants like coffee and energy drinks to keep them going.
For people who are unwilling or unable to do this...work really does just dominate your life. Like we really should not have to rely on unhealthy practices just to have a social life or keep on top of housework or whatever.
I know I post about this a lot but I'm so TIRED all the time and it's just so depressing that this is how we're expected to spend the one life we have.

Lmao OMFG Martin. He's now confirmed to have been jealous of
- (possibly lesbian?) Cop for daring to have private conversations with Jon
- literal embodiment of death Jon has only metaphorically met in a coma-dream
- lady he talked to for half an hour, once
Truly he is the "you know other people" meme
