Astronomy Daily - The Podcast: S03E166 Welcome to Astronomy Daily, your source for the latest space and Astronomy news. I'm your host, Anna, and we've got an exciting episode lined up for you today. We'll be exploring some fascinating developments in the world of space and Astronomy that are sure to captivate your imagination. Highlights: - Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-Atlas): Astronomers are eagerly tracking this comet, which could shine as brightly as the North Star this fall. Discovered in early C/2023.A3, it's captured the attention of both professional astronomers and space enthusiasts. If it survives its close encounter with the sun on September 27, it could rival the spectacular Comet McNaught of 2007. - ESA's Luna Facility: The European Space Agency and German Aerospace Center have unveiled Luna, a lunar analog facility near Cologne, Germany. This 700-square-meter hall filled with simulated lunar regolith will provide crucial training for future astronauts, including those in NASA's Artemis program. - NASA Artemis II Crew in Iceland: NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen have been undergoing geology field training in Iceland. This unique landscape closely resembles the lunar surface, helping the crew prepare for the challenges of lunar exploration. - China's Sea Launch of Smart Dragon-3: China successfully launched the Smart Dragon-3 rocket from a floating platform, carrying eight remote sensing satellites into sun-synchronous orbit. This sea-based launch demonstrates flexibility and could open up new possibilities for future missions. - Potential for Life on Venus: Recent research suggests that some of life's fundamental building blocks might survive in Venus's harsh environment. Scientists discovered that certain lipids can withstand exposure to concentrated sulfuric acid, challenging our assumptions about the solvents necessary for life. - Revolutionary Space Propulsion: Scientists are testing a new propulsion system known as Super Mag Drive, which could use any type of metal as fuel. This technology could allow spacecraft to refuel by harvesting minerals from asteroids or distant moons, opening up new frontiers in space exploration. Astronaut Danny but in MHA??
This is a very quick idea, but one where Danny grows up to be an astronaut hiding from the government because of the anti-ecto Acts. NASA is very willing to hide his biology since he is the perfect choice for being an astronaut and there isn't a risk of him dying while on a mission.
During one of Danny's space missions, he accidentally gets knocked off course and flies through a natural portal to the realms and ends up crashing through another portal and crashed into an open area in a big city, which was very lucky.
Danny ends up passing out due to the crash and wakes up later in a hospital with an odd-looking human checking his vitals on a monitor.
This is when Danny learns that when he went through that portal, he ended up in an alternative timeline 200 years into the future where the excess ectoplasm caused humans to develop mini-cores that allowed for one power- or a "quirk" as the people of this universe called them.

At this rate I think anytime Athena travels anywhere they should just have emergency services on standby. Like forget worrying about storm clouds on the horizon. The moment you spot Athena in your general vicinity it’s time to high tail it out of there.

After Huey, Dewey and Louie have grown up, they talk to their Uncle Donald.
Donald: You are grown boys now. Although it's time to join the army. I don't want to scare you, but the law of this country must be respected. But if you don't, you can apply to be an astronaut at the space center. It needs young people for that.
Huey: No third choice?
Donald: Unfortunately, no.
Huey, Dewey and Louie: Then let's all be astronauts together. Better that than getting hurt in the army.
Dewey: I can't be first in the army, but that's why I can be first on Mars.
Louie: Meh, I'd rather be in space where no one touches me, unlike in the military I'd die instantly.
Huey: WHAT?! Even for an astronaut, you have to do exercises, and they are more difficult than in the military.
Louie: Yes, but there is no gravity in space, so I don't have to do push-ups. In addition, there is gold on the Moon and Mars.
Huey: Of course, typical of you. But I'm going with you.
Donald then hugged his boys and the grown boys started space training.

In the driver’s seat. Astronaut Michael Collins undergoes simulation training in preparation for Apollo 11. Mr. Collins flew twice in space with his first flight being on Gemini 10 with John Young. On that flight, he became the 4th human to perform a spacewalk. During Apollo 11, Collins orbited 30x in the Command Module to become the 2nd to orbit to the moon solo, after Young did so during Apollo 10. A historic humble hero.

No One: Me: "The average Digital World astronaut reaches space a total of one time in their entire lifetime, but more instances may be possible with advancements in Space science. Izumi Koushirou, meanwhile, who reached (Digital) ""space"" twice depending on the universe involved, (BOTH times while still as a child) is an Outlier who Should Not Be Counted"

have horrible vertigo got home from work early ate lunch took a nap had weird dreams about being chased by invisible demons leaving black ooze footprints and also making out with my coworker in a supply closet and also being able to fly or at least kind of glide/hover but with water continuously pouring out of my mouth as I try to navigate a wetland preserve in order to make out with my coworker more (in the wetland preserve, for privacy) but now maybe they’re a vampire. Regular stuff Wednesday at my house.

I feel like when people write fic taking place at Starfleet Academy, they lean too hard into the bookie side of things and forget that at least half of training (especially after the first semester or two) would be field training. Hand-to-hand combat. Target shooting. Evasive maneuvers in various ships. Medical clinicals. How to work in an EVA suit and move in zero-G. So-you've-crashed-on-a-deserted-planet 101. stuff like that
