Asteroid Vulcan 4464
TW: trauma mentioned.
here i will try to provide my own interpretation on the asteroid :p i am not a professional astrologer so take everything with a grain of salt.
vulcan is the Roman god of fire and destruction. he was the second son of jupiter and juno and the husband of venus. sometimes, he would be summoned to calm down fires. he was the father of caeculus, founder of Praeneste. his greek equivalent is hephaestus. he is considered the god of oven trade, arms, jewelry, metalworking.
he plots revenge against his mother, crafting her a deceitful golden throne. he did that because she exiled him for being born ugly. after being thrown off from mount olympus, he landed into the ocean, where he was raised by a sea nymph, thetis. his interest for fire and metalworking happened there.
during his adventures under the sea, he found the remains of a fisherman's fire, thus an unextinguished coal fascinated him, as it was still glowing. he took this coal to his grotto and made a fire with it. in the second day after he ignited it, he noticed that âcertain stones sweated iron/silver/gold.â in the third day the cooled metal was formed into jewelry.
one day, vulcan's foster mother left the grotto to attend a dinner party in mount olympus, wearing a necklace that vulcan made for her. ultimately, she got noticed by juno, who asked where was the necklace from. having thetis' reaction, juno became suspicious and later she realised how her son became a blacksmith.
so, what could this mean in a chart?
IN MY OPINION it may refer to places where you are forced to work on under pressure of heavy emotions. it refers to places where you have to work on your own and with some support outside of your family. in can refer to places where you may feel abandoned and where you fear abandonment, even places that caused such fears. surely, it represents areas of life that causes most trauma for you and parts of yourself that you are forced to transform, but it is for the greater good because once those purified, you will meet so much prosperity based on the placement of the asteroid.
ARIES/1ST HOUSE  1, 13, 25°.
you may have had a lot of transformative experiences regarding your image, and the way you act. depending on how the 1st house behaves in your chart, you are forced to do whatever it takes to achieve your purpose and to make yourself heard. if any planets are in the first house, you are forced to work on any hardships caused by those planets.
TAURUS/2ND HOUSE  2, 14, 26°
if you have vulcan in this placement, i feel like you might have gone through narcissistic abuse. someone might have been overly possesive towards you. if you are a woman and this asteroid is in afflicted aspect (square, opposition and even semisquare) to neptune/saturn/jupiter, i feel like you might have suffered a lot because you had a lot of expectations upon you.
GEMINI/3RD HOUSE 3, 15, 27°
you might have had a lot of conflicts in your near environment. you might have been bullied a lot in school and maybe by your neighbours. you might have been mocked for the way of your speaking. however, over time, you might become a master communicator and might have a job in areas relating to communication.
CANCER/4TH HOUSE  4, 16, 28°
might have had an absent mother figure. a lot of pressure in the family and might have suffered because of people who have extreme views about homeland. because you suffered in your family, you might have had tendencies to plot revenge against them. your mother figure might have not supported you in pursuing your dreams. could grow bitter over mother.
LEO/5TH HOUSE  5, 17, 29°.
you could be a pretty isolated individual. you are a very creative individual but any creative endeavor of yours might have been shamed on. might have been bullied as a kid because of the way you expressed yourself. i think that drama could surround you, you might have been involved in drama during your childhood, which might have created psychological blockages that affected self expression.
VIRGO/6H HOUSE  6, 18°
you might have been shunned away for being too kind. i feel like you could have been the kind kid who got bullied a lot for no reason. could have some health issues that you are forced to work through, and you will be very blessed once you do. i feel like you are forced to work under a lot of pressure in your work place and this effort would be greatly appreciated.
LIBRA/7TH HOUSE 7, 19°
if you have this, i feel like you might have abandoment issues because of some past trauma related to relationships. you might have been criticised to how you connect to others and this might have led to an isolation. might have had difficulties in marriages, and the damage caused by them might have also made you isolated.
SCORPIO/8TH HOUSE 8, 20°
this is very intense. with this placement, and individual could have gone through a lot of transformative experiences while developing. this might have been very discouraging to them, and any time they tried to rise up they were punished. however, with this aspect, i feel like all these things forced you to reach a higher, purified version of yourself.
SAGGITARIUS/9TH HOUSE 9, 21°
you could be very fascinated with spirituality and be shamed for it. you could say that you are spiritually gifted, but there might have been times where people did not believe you. you might find yourself fearing abandonment from people from different cultural backgrounds. you could be very wise, but maybe nobody took you seriously until you grew up.
CAPRICORN/10TH HOUSE 10, 22°
might have been very affected by male figures, like father, boss, and such. IF you are healed, i feel like you could feel very secure around masculine people and benefit a lot from them and if not, i feel like some insecurities related to abandoment might arise because of their behaviour. if you are a woman, you could have female rage because such presences.
AQUARIUS/11TH HOUSE 11, 23°
might have abandonment issues because of friendships that were gained in an online environment or in large groups. i feel like you might be an idealsitic person, but people never respected your ideas until they actually saw achievements of yours if you had any. might be very quiet in friend groups.
PISCES/12TH HOUSE 12, 24°
with this placement, you might have been prone to delusions during developing. like saggitarius/9h, i feel like you could have be highly intuitive but people could take advantage because of that. you might have been idealising people and things and you might have suffered because of that. i think you are an empathetic individual, but you could have been shamed for it and shunned away.
A/N a more in depth study on this asteroid will be on my patreon SOON.
if these do not resonate, consult the PERSONA CHART of this asteroid. also, if the degree of the placement is low(close to 30°) it may mean that the impact of this asteroid might not be felt as intensely. (29° AND 18° MAY MAKE AN EXCEPTION) of course, the impact of this asteroid also depends on the other planets/points/asteroids surrounding it. - however, in my opinion, the intensity of this asteroid may not be smoothened in the case of the following placements of degrees: saturn/cancer/mars/mercury degrees are bound to saturn/cancer/mars/mercury/pluto.

Imagine this. You're Spock. You've tried not to get yourself emotionally involved with your crewmates. It's not going very well. Your doctor goes and contracts a terminal illness and doesn't tell you (but luckily your captain can't go three seconds without breaking Space HIPAA or whatever exists in the future) and then tries to run away and die on an asteroid. You take out the Instrument of Obedience, privately thinking that it would be nice to have some control over this maniac you somehow care about's actions. You spend Surak knows how much time downloading and translating an entire civilization's medical library to cure him. No problem. It was just an incurable disease. You didn't need to sleep this month.
Two episodes later, another alien civilization tries to check said doctor out like he's a library book and then writes "withdrawn" on his forehead and pretends they don't have to give him back. He tells you to leave to save yourself; he'll stay. Did you mention you decoded an entire medical archive like two weeks ago for---fine. You go through unspeakable emotional violations to put him back into circulation on the Enterprise. It's cool. You didn't need your dignity anyway.
Two episodes after that, your illogical, self-sacrificial doctor mutinies and sedates you--the ranking officer in charge--undoing the fact that, again, how many hours did you spend? Curing an incurable illness because you couldn't let him die? Singing like an idiot in front of a bunch of snickering Platonians with laurel leaves on your head and no pants to speak of?--so he can get himself tortured to death on your behalf. You convince an empath to save him. He pushes her away because he "can't destroy life." Your captain is crying. The shiny force field shows everyone that you're having very non-shiny emotions. Do Vulcans even believe in hell
You think you've finally reached some sort of sacrificial detente. It's been a while. Neither of you have died on the other's behalf. You've both had to save your captain a few times, but that's normal. All in a day's work. Then said captain wants all three of you to check out a mysteriously abandoned library of time periods. You should have figured you would wind up in some sort of frozen wasteland with your doctor and no perceivable way to return what you'd borrowed. Well. At least there's the two of you so that you can keep an eye on--
He falls down in the snow. His hands are blue. "Go on without me," he says, dramatically. "Alone, you have a chance."
yeah I'd strangle that fucker against a cave wall too

I know the most common fanon for Tuvok post Voyager is that he's mostly fine and one of more stable ones but I personally think it'd be funny if he cracked like a goddamn egg and went off the deep end for a few years before finding his way back to semi-normalcy. Janeway's like "Where's Tuvok?" and the answer is that he quit Starfleet, joined a temple, left the temple in the middle of the night to go wander around the desert, almost died but was taken in by a kindly old woman, lived with her for two months before she died, left the desert hut to alert her family and upon completing that task hopped on the first freighter off Vulcan, got stranded on a deserted asteroid after being the sole survivor of the crash, was rescued, mind melded with an alien who can see the future but died in the process and can't remember anything about it except for the vague feeling that he spoke with Kes, was brought back to life by Chakotay who told him that Janeway was looking for him [at which point he pointed out that Chakotay is also not in contact with Janeway and then ran away again], returned to Vulcan but only to find and climb to the top of a holy mountain which took several months and upon reaching the top he feels a sense of enlightenment which permeates his familial bonds as the first sign in almost a year that he's alive at all. Upon finishing his climb down the mountain he stays in a nearby village and serves in their temple for several more months until it's attacked by aliens because of some artifact hidden deep within the temple walls and he puts his tactical strategy to good use, fending off the attack. Harry Kim [first guy to essentially skip lieutenant class and go right to commander] appears and is like "You need to go home, man. People think you're dead." Then he goes home and joins Starfleet again and he's literally only allowed back in because of Janeway and Janeway accepts him out of her love for her crew and also because she's kind of worried that he'll join an ice fishing expedition or cult if she doesn't. This only adds to the lore of Voyager as a cursed ship and her Crew as all-in-the-family maniacs.
#and the entire time Tuvok's like 'this is so logical I am not having a breakdown'#star trek voyager#st voyager#the important thing is that none of this entire odyssey really helps him address the root causes at all <3#The VOY crew will do ANYTHING except address their issues#Tuvok#Kathryn Janeway

NON-WINNERS LIFE SERIES MEMBERS as celestial objects since they might eventually become winners. p.1
Tango - Venus

Extremely hot, hottest planet in the solar system thanks to it's thick vulcanic atmosphere. Lightning storming firey surface yet calm clouds at higher elevation.

It's surface is partially melted due to vulcanic activity. (Also looks bald without clouds lmao.
Despite this It's called after Venus, ronan goddes of love equated to the greek's Aphrodite. Love and beauty, what does Tango have to do with that?

Hmmm I wonder.
Bdubs - Ceres.

Ceres is a muddy (literally clay) dwarf planet (small) that orbits in the asteroid belt between Jupiter and Mars. It is full of craters since it stays in the asteroid belt and wouldn't you know it that fits as well.

Also it is named after the roman goddess of nature often equated to Demeter which fits perfectly with his nature and especially moss theme.
Etho - Mimas.

I could give a bunch of reasons for this one like silver fitting Etho perfectly or the icyness fitting with Etho's association with ice. But like..
You see it right?
Also Mimas is a moon of Saturn exactly like his soulmate-
Joel - Titan

This is Titan, the biggest of Saturn's moons. The colour fits that of a swamp and the name titan usually refers to something gigantic despite this being only a moon and not a planet and therefore small. It's also at the temperature where methane has a cycle similiar to water and has a haze of methane vapour covering it like mist...it therefore smells and looks very swampy.
Also also if we do this we can have Lizzie as Titania, which is a different moon named after the fae queen which fits perfectly with Lizzie... Speaking of:
Lizzie - Titania

Not only all that I stated in Joel's bit but this moon is also mostly made of ice and likely has an ocean of water underneath the ice. This means It's both linked to Ocean Queen Lizzie and fae Lizzie. Also It's not completely gray, it has a red-pinkish hue... It's a uranus moon btw.
Jimmy - Europa.

First of all completes the trio with Lizzie and Joel as it is a Jupiter moon (While Titan is a satellite of Saturn and Titania of Uranus).
Second of all It's canary colored with two almost wing shaped patches on opposite sides.
Third of all it has a strong connection with death and dying because it is literally covered in bleeding wounds.

Skizz - Uranus.

Listen, It's a chill big blue planet that spins really funky and has an halo of ice. It's perfect for Skizz, I already said so once and I'll say it again.
Also Skizz would love it because of the jokes around the name.
If you aren't convinced Uranus is named after the greek god of the sky which fits Skizz's making TIES live in the sky and his obsession with wind charges in Hermitcraft.
BigB - Neptune.

Dark cold and mysterious, the strongest storms in the solar system hidden by a facade of calmness and peacefulness. The furthest planet from the sun it is the one that holds the most mysteries. The one we know the least about between the main 8.

durrrrrrrrr bypothetical dlanets doodles
im norm.al about them anyways i wanted tk fullg color this but my motivatioon ghosted me :(
info about them under cut (both facts and hcs)
THEIA ⢠- ⢠Mars-sized planet theorized to have crashed into the Earth some 4.5 billion years ago. Named after the Greek goddess Theia/Euryphaessa, goddess of sight and vision, one of the twelve Titans.
->->-> pls i love her anyways my stuff on her is a mess, i just know she's a mischievious lil guy
check back in when solarballs releases theia lore
VULCAN ⢠- ⢠A small planet orviting between the Sun and Mercury. Theorized to exist to explain Mercury's goofy orbit according to Newton's physics. Disproven in 1915 with Einstein's Law of General Relativity explaining the orbit instead.
Generally sweet guy. His proximity to the Sun made his friend list limited to the Sun and Mercury (mainly the former). He tries his best to keep everything calm and peaceful. Key word: tries.
PHAETON ⢠- ⢠The destruction of which formed the Asteroid belt. Theories suggest that Ceres and other main belt objects were its former moons. Of course, Phaeton is only one of the many theories of how the Asteroid Belt was formed.
(Those r wax wings to clarify)
Arrogant guy who doesn't know his limits. Despite that, she was close friends with Mars and took care of his moons very well.
COUNTER-EARTH/ANTICHTON ⢠- ⢠A planet mirroring Earth that exists directly opposite our orbit at all times, forever hiding behind the Sun in our perspective. Greek origins
Earth and this guy would either be absolute enemies or the bestest of besties. They mirror each other in a lot of ways. Also, Antichton has black eyes. My Luna design has one black eye to symbolize the dark side of it, and I thought that was a cool design choice. Being on the complete opposite side of the Solar System, I decided to give him (antichton) fully black eyes as well.
would tell tou to keep yourself safe

The Cosmic Names of MFB Beys.
In MFB, Beys are named after constellations like Pegasus and Leone and sometimes celestial bodies such as Jade Jupiter. However, there are some cases that do not seem as straightforward, and even some Beys that can find multiple origins for their names. I decided to take a look at them.

Vulcan Horuseus
Horuseus represents Horus, the god of the sky, and as a result, he encompasses both the sun and the moon as his eyes. So, he has a connection to Earth's satellite, the moon and with the sun, our star.
There is also an asteroid named after Horus: 1924 Horus.
The Fusion Wheel also plays a role, as Vulcan references a hypothetical planet closer to the sun than even Mercury.
Hades Kerbecs
Kerbecs actually refers to a constellation, Cerberus, which is now an integral part of the Hercules constellation.
However, like Horuseus, there is also an asteroid named after the three-headed dog: 1865 Cerberus.
Similarly, a moon of Pluto is named after the godâs loyal companion as wellâKerberos.
Mercury Anubius
Anubius is the Bey of the Legendary Blader of Mercury, Yuki, and as such, he represents the planet with his Fusion Wheel of the same name.
Anubis is the god of mummification and guided souls to the afterlife, a task also taken by Hermes, with whom he was associated with. Hermes is considered the Greek equivalent of the Roman Mercury.
Anubis is depicted as a man with a jackal head. This canine form can create a link with constellations such as Canis Minor, and some scholars claim there was a connection between the two for the ancient Egyptians. Some also say that Anubis was connected with Sirius, the brightest star in the sky, which is part of Canis Major. However, some of these claims are more modern interpretations. Regardless, I can see MFB using that interpretation.
Anubis also gave its name to an asteroid (1912 Anubis).
Forbidden Ionis
Ionis is depicted as a heifer and, as such, can be associated with the bull constellation, much like Dark Bullâthey even share a similar color scheme.
However, it can also and mainly be associated with Jupiterâs satellite Io, named after one of the godâs mistresses, who was changed into a cow.
Omega Dragonis
Omega Dragonis represents a dragon and, as such, can be associated with the Draco constellation, much like L-Drago.
In addition, the complete name Omega Dragonis can be seen as a pun, since one of the stars in the Draco constellation is named Omega Draconis.
Death Quetzalcoatl
Quetzalcoatl represents the Aztec god of the same name, who often took the appearance of a feathered snake, just like in the anime. As a result, it can be associated with the Serpens constellation.
There is also 1915 QuetzĂĄlcoatl, an asteroid named after the Aztec god.
But more importantly, in Aztec mythology, Quetzalcoatl is often associated with the morning star, aka Venus.
Diablo Nemesis
As many of you probably know, Nemesis was the name given to a hypothetical star (a red or brown dwarf) once speculated to orbit around the Sun, but it doesn't actually exist.
However, Nemesis does have an asteroid with the same name: 128 Nemesis.
Additional Beys
Here are some Beys that didnât make it into the anime but seem to have names disconnected from the overall theme:
Divine Chimera
I couldnât find anything concrete for Chimera, other than an asteroid named 623 Chimaera.
I think the reason why Kakeruâs Bey seems a little far from the classic constellation naming theme is because it was the result of the "CoroCoro Design a Beyblade Contest," with bladers creating their own designs.
Nightmare Rex
There are asteroids named after dinosaurs, notably 9951 Tyrannosaurus.
The name dinosaur ("terrible lizard") and Tyrannosaurus ("tyrant lizard") both derive from the greek word for lizard, meaning that they could represent Lacerta (the lizard constellation). It wouldnât be the first time that a constellation ends up with a Bey having a different designâlike Gill, which represents Carina Keel as the motif but has the spirit of a sea monster instead.
Bakuushin Susanow
Bakuushin Susanow was honestly more complicated. However, it is noteworthy that he is the god of the sea and storms and the brother of Amaterasu, the goddess of the sun, and Tsukuyomi, the god of the moon. One day, he went on such a rampage that it caused Amaterasu to hide in a cave until the other gods convinced her to come out. This myth is believed to be a representation of a solar eclipse, with Susanow being the cause. Some modern interpretations suggest that Susanoo represents solar eclipses (in this myth), though this is not a central aspect of his traditional Shinto mythology. Interestingly, Takara Tomy released an all-black version of this Bey called Lunar Eclipse.
There is also an asteroid named after him: 10604 Susanoo.

"Spock's World" review

Novel from 1988, by Diane Duane. In a similar vein as her previous work, "The Romulan Way", is a combination of novel and historical account, this time about Vulcans instead of Romulans.
The historical chapters present different moments in the life of the planet and its peoples, from the very creation of the rock known as Vulcan out of primordial stardust, to the initial career of Sarek as ambassador and his encounter with Amanda. Many of these chapters have a chilling, somber ending, always presided by the ever-watchful eye of T'Khut (Vulcan's moon, which isn't really a moon). My favorites were the ones dealing with primitive Vulcan, at a time when speech wasn't even invented and everything had a touch of the mythical, and the ruthless story of a family of Vulcan asteroid miners, destroyed by their greed for diamonds (this was before Surak, obviously). Some details about Vulcans seemed a bit weird to me, like their wide array of customized psychic abilities, or the technological advancement in pre-Reformation times. I had this image of pre-Reform Vulcan as some sort of "warrior and monk" society. Though this is probably a silly complaint, since not much is known about Surak's times... Yet I still have difficulty picturing Surak as a corporation accountant, I don't know... I liked more the version of Romulan history from the other book, though these episodes were also beautiful in their own way.
As for the main plot (if you can call it "main"; it doesn't take more pages than the history part), is set in post-TMP times. Vulcan threatens to leave the Federation, in a climate of political discontentment, so Kirk, Spock and McCoy are invited to join the public debate, to defend the pro-Federation position. It's a simple but compelling story, more focused on discussing the different worldviews than in actual plot. Though there's also a conspiracy for the protagonists to uncover, but I won't spoil it here. Despite the cover and the title, Spock doesn't have such a big role. McCoy is actually the one who's doing most of the investigations, having become kind of an expert in Vulcan (including learning the language and speaking it with a Southern accent). The plot also shakes a bit the usual status-quo, by turning a well-known character from the series into villain, and killing another. On the other hand, and as minor nitpicking, some things about Duane's Enterprise still seem strange to me. The wild parties aboard, and the opinion network of the ship (where everyone can freely publish their opinions about anything, including invectives against Vulcans) make the Enterprise seem more like college than a ship at times.
Spirk Meter: 1/10*. I can only think about the encounter between Spock and a vengeful T'Pring, who threatens him with taking away his career and his Captain, the same way that Spock made her lose Stonn (it's a long story). It would seem that, in her mind, Kirk means for Spock the same that Stonn meant for her... Though on the other hand, she could mean it just in a professional way.
For his part, McCoy has a tendency to whisper into Spock's ear, from time to time.
*A 10 in this scale is the most obvious spirk moments in TOS. Think of the back massage, "You make me believe in miracles", or "Amok Time" for example.

Watching "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" is a lot of fun. I want to be clear that I'm enjoying myself, perhaps especially because the show suffers from many of the same issues as all previous "Star Trek" shows and I like picking at Doylist versus Watsonian explanations for things.
In one of the episodes of Season 2, all of the characters on the ship are suffering from this supernatural memory loss. They don't remember who they are or what they're meant to be doing. This issue hits the Enterprise over the course of many hours, enough time for senior members of the crew to become aware of the issue and decide that the Enterprise needs to get away from what's probably causing the issue. As a precaution, Spock even hands out datapads with personnel files to remind people of their own identities.
Unfortunately, this doesn't work out, because the memory loss apparently includes the ability to read. And I was immediately like, "Why didn't they ask the computer to periodically remind them of the situation? Why didn't they go into lockdown and set a looping announcement to keep everyone calm?" And it does turn out later on in the episode that the day is saved because the helmswoman accidentally prompts the ship's computer to remind her of who she is and what her role is. And I immediately pointed at the screen and the person I was watching with laughed.
The episode was fun and fairly solid. I find a lot about this show to be comparable to all previous "Star Trek" shows. But it IS amusing that this episode hinges on the idea that the senior officers of the ship who are supposedly pretty good on-their-feet problem-solvers, including a logically-minded Vulcan science officer, would not develop SEVERAL background plans in the event of further memory loss. Like, uh, carrying around datapads with personnel files is a single point of failure? And far less reliable than asking the computer to herd the crew and make announcements? What if someone drops their datapad? Should you not immediately strive to take a variety of precautions for everyone's safety? Your backups should have backups!
It's also amusing that the episode hinges on needing the helmswoman to pilot their way out of an asteroid field or whatever, because that really seems like something that should be trivial for the ship's computer. I don't remember if the episode gave us a sci-fi mumbo-jumbo excuse as to why a person needed to do it. But a human being just doesn't have the same reaction time or field of awareness as a computer, especially one 200 years in the future; maybe we don't want to rely on a computer all of the time, but there SHOULD realistically speaking be some background program that allows the ship's computer to plot a course in the event of an emergency. And it's a little ridiculous from an in-universe perspective to think that an organization like Starfleet would not have those backups already.
Like, I come from a background of more scientifically-minded problem-solvers with a handful of memory issues to their names, so we've adapted with techniques to cope with forgetting shit sometimes, and I just cannot fully suspend my disbelief regarding some of the things the writers has Starfleet do for plot reasons. So much can go wrong in space even before you bring glow clouds into it! Good engineers are paranoid fuckers! What can go wrong WILL go wrong.
(We watched the first episode of "Star Trek: Lower Decks" last night and I found it delightful. It IS set in the era of "The Next Generation", but nevertheless you'd think that Captain Pike and crew should have developed a series of "the entire crew has lost their minds again" protocols by now, and "Lower Decks" is lovingly making fun of that in the same vein as "Galaxy Quest".)
Thankfully, I mostly find this discrepancy for drama's sake funny.
In one of the earlier episodes, it was basically the show doing their own version of / a tribute to "Alien". And I have a great fondness for the original "Alien", so that was kind of fun to see. Nice. But if you do stop to, like, actually think about what's happening, this sequence of events is only really happening because 1a) you didn't send piloted drones in first to try to retrieve any logs about what happened and 1b) search for survivors without recklessly endangering half of the senior bridge crew.
2) None of these people are wearing protective suits or shield generators or whatever. They have BARE FACES when this destroyed ship they're exploring could have been taken down by a plague for all they know. None of the characters are ever even wearing HATS when they go to cold locations, because filmmakers don't like obscuring actor faces or ruining their hair. This episode is, for understandable reasons, prioritizing drama over... uh, indicating that Starfleet has decent safety regulations that include personal protective equipment.
3) They send EVERYONE into the spooky destroyed ship instead of holding various crewmembers back. Like, uh, maybe you should leave someone in the shuttle in case something goes wrong? There's an ion storm preventing transporter use and interfering with communicators again, sure, but... Starfleet hasn't developed a series of communication protocols besides "Aw, fuck, communicator's broke, better wait it out"? There's no alternate radio-esque technology that would allow for short range communication between an exploration crew and a grounded shuttle crew? You don't have a temporary communications machine to drop onto a planet? You can't even have little drones physically carry messages between the shuttle and the exploration crew?
Like, yes, I understand why the writers did things this way. "Star Trek" has such miraculous technology that writers have to fight for their fucking lives every episode to explain why the miracle technology isn't working this time. Nevertheless, when crewmembers start dying because Starfleet apparently doesn't have, like, decent safety protocols and backups, I am going to think in the back of my mind: "Okay, this redshirt's death is kind of on you guys this time. Send in a damn robot first."

One spones thing I like writing is them figuring out where the boundaries are. Cos they fight all the time, but clearly aren't just cruel or they wouldn't be able to work together. So I like watching them figure out how to undo an accidental insult or apologise for going too far without noticing.
But forgetting that I like writing that dynamic, what's also fun is them just being so 100% in sync that they've never accidentally gone too far on anything. Sure they've gone too far, but they fully know what they're doing when they do.
But also, one fight is much like another from an outsiders pov
Like, they're on the bridge having a normal squabble about space for Jim's benefit when McCoy, who is nursing a hurt feeling from Spock ignoring him at breakfast, just steps his professional disagreement into an opinion the devoids Spock's recently submitted for approval research paper. And Spock doesn't admit to feeling vulnerable about anything, but the period between submission and approval is a sore spot. So it's like
"the asteroids do not require significant gravitational adjustment as they are buffeted by the slightest impact "
"but the longer we wait the closer they are to the planet!"
"we are not waiting, we are aligning ourselves with the prime opportunity to interfere, and-"
"unless DeVahl is right about gravitons"
"...is this about breakfast, doctor?"
"not unless you were reading DeVahl's paper at breakfast"
"I was not."
"then-"
"sorry, what the fuck are you two talking about? Tell me about the asteroids. Bones, d'you really think we're putting the planet at risk?"
"no, Jim, I don't. I'm sure Spock's always right about these things. I'll be in mebday."
And like. No one even clocks that that was a genuine fight. But two weeks later they just about have a screaming match in the corridor about petri dish storage protocol and love every second of it. But that day people think they're irrevocably falling apart and Jim rocks up to like counsel them back into getting along.
I just like the idea of them knowing each other perfectly from the word go. And also weaponising it cos god knows they don't treat each other like they're made of glass. But also noticing when someone else goes too far, like how Spock can take teasing on Vulcan stuff just fine but when it steps into racism he doesn't stand up for himself. Or how McCoy sometimes gets genuinely pissed off at starfleet's protocols and needs some time before he can approach talking about them in a productive way

Drabble: Jim being adorable with kids
Jim had never thought he would get used to the âCaptain on the bridge!â that greeted him every time he left the turbo lift, but he must have, at some point, because it had taken him almost a full 20 seconds to process the fact that while it was coming from Uhuraâs station, it was about two feet lower then it should be, and several pitches higher.
He took his seat slowly, ignoring the muffled giggles from Spockâs usual position (and wasnât that adorable) and the slight swaying from Chekhovâs chair. The little boots he could see dangling from under the seat where several dozen sizes too tiny to be his usual ensign.
âAny news Mr. Sulu?â He asked, docking his padd until further notice. Suluâs chair spun around to face him, revealing the gap toothed grin of Demora, cross legged in her fathers usual seat.
âThereâs a asteroid field two parsecs off on our current route, Iâve adjusted us so we can swing by and pick up some data.â She lisped around her two front teeth.
âExcellent work! And you Mr. Spock?â Jim turned his chair, taking the long way so that he could get a full view of the bridge as he went. Every one of his alpha shift crew members had been replaced by someone at least two feet shorter. Someone had even gone and found tiny little uniforms for all of them. He was trying very hard not to laugh, but all the serious little faces were making it very hard.
Mr. Spock was actually two Mr.s Spock, two vulcan siblings who were doted and adored both by the entire vulcan contingent on board and the rest of the crew. More then one person had remarked at how theyâd never known baby vulcan ears moved.
âI expect the asteroid belt may be related to the planetoid we passed three days ago, Captain Kirk. Permission to collect samples for study?â Tâclai said, ears betraying her excitement.
âWeâre gonna see rocks!!!â Her little sister shouted, wiggling out of her seat.
Jim grabbed her, settling her on his hip. âWhy yes, my tiny Lt, yes we areâ

Wrote a bit of the femslash Spirk AU for one of my absolute least favorite TOS episodes, which I hadn't anticipated even including:
Harcourt Fenton Mudd was a man with a plan. That plan involved an alias, a stolen ship, three attractive young women eager to marry ⌠well, anyone, and of course, the Venus drug. He didnât know or need to know exactly how the last of these worked. It acted like some kind of irresistible pheromone, or aphrodisiac, or something on men. Mostly men, anyway. He himself had become pretty much inured to it; though he liked pretty women around him, he liked profit more. But now, with an alarmingly large Federation starship chasing him, he guessed the girls and those pills would be worth their weight in dilithium. Men were men, after all. Even in Starfleet. He did have a few moments of anxietyâjust a fewâas asteroids battered his own ship. He beamed out the distress signal himself; the crunching and groans of his ship would have given anyone room to pause. But heâd be fine. He always was. Starfleet might be a great annoyance in business dealings, indifferent to bribes and all too ready to get in the way of an honest entrepreneurial gentlemanâs profit, but they were at least punctual about rescues. Heâd scarcely sent the distress signal when the battered interior of the ship heâd borrowed turned hazy and transparent about him. He heard one of the girls, probably Eve, scream, right before his environment solidified into an entirely different one. He stood in a large transporter room, though no doubt only a small part of the gargantuan ship that had driven him into the asteroids. The transporter pad was clearly equipped for beaming multiple people at once, at least five or six, and a Starfleet officer in red stood at a long panel that made an uncanny amount of noise. Plenty of power there. A nice ship, he thought to himself. Very nice. Even Starfleet couldnât have too many of these. Two other officers had just walked into the room, both in blue: one, a high-ranking Vulcan woman, could be of little use. The other, a man in early middle age with a craggy face and irritable expression, looked far more promising.

I would pay all the money I have (which is not much but you get what I mean) to have a scene in Star Trek 4 where they rescue a stranded ship with a bunch of Vulkan children on board (maybe headed to New Vulcan idk) and Spock sees how scared and sad they are (because well their planet is now a handful of space rubble and maybe some of their parents are gone now) so he just starts showing them around the Enterprise to cheer them up a little because Vulcan children are nothing but curious. And suddenly efficiency plummets and nothing gets done anymore because there's a First Officer surrounded by a group of tiny somber children calmly explaining to them how a starship works and no one can focus on their work anymore. Just imagine Spock showing them the bridge and answering their questions with endless patience and Jim just cannot stop smiling because of how darn cute it is. Bones is unable to pick his jaw off the floor when they ask to see the medbay. Sulu almost flies them into an asteroid because he is unable to cope with this level of cuteness. Scotty lets them pick apart a tricorder or two while on the verge of tears.
Bonus points if their Vulcan teachers or caretakers or whatever ask Spock to back off because they consider him a bad example (because of the stunt he pulled in front of VSA) and the crew gets a very uncomfortable glimpse of the way Spock is/was perceived back on Vulcan. Which causes them to Lose Their Shit (tm) in a very polite manner and leads to a very exasperated Spock wondering why he suddenly gets showered with praise everywhere he goes
#spock#star trek aos#i want it so much#just spock being a role model to a bunch of curious children#and everybody else dying of cuteness overload

S3 episode 4 (And The Children Shall Lead) I'll explain what happened to episode 3 under the cut of this post.
Start here:
- The three of them beaming down together is a good start
- Guys they're not dead!⌠theyâre just sleepy
- Kirk is not amused
- As much as I want to believe Kirk would be good with children, itâs proven (canonically) he is not
- âI am getting a feeling of anxiety in this place.â This reminds me of a good omens line. If ya know, ya know.
- I love nurse chapel. The medical department being good with kids is heartwarming
- Is this a Peter Pan situation? (edit: nope)
- So why are the kids chanting and summoning an entity? Let's not have to call the exorcist.
- âHave Dr. McCoy report to my quarters.â YeahâŚ?
- We get to watch Sulu press buttons and turn dials :)
- Uhuraâs double take
- âYouâre losing control of yourself, sir.â âNot yet.â Scotty then proceeds to fight two guys and get knocked out
- âThe enemy from within!â Previous episode mention
- Thatâs horrific. The children controlling their parents caused them to die on Triacus. Star Trek can write some pretty fucked up shit actually. But it doesn't deal with the consequences.
- McCoyâs opinion is outnumbered two to one again so he just storms out
- They just beamed those two redshirts out into spaceâŚ
- âFriendly angel come to me.â
youtube
- Kirk and Spock share a look like, âwhat the fuck is going onâ
- Spell that makes you see knives in space
- Poor Uhura. No one wants to see their own death, but amazing acting
- âCaptain, why are we bothering starfleet?â Spock too? Kirk you gotta go find McCoy, maybe heâll be talking some sense
- So why havenât I seen anyone talk about this?

- âMy Vulcan friend.â Yep Kirk. Reassert your friendship.
- Spock grabs Kirkâs arm to reassure him
- WOAH! He jumped to killing kids way too fast (worst case scenario stun or hypo them! Jesus)
- Kirk has had to remind himself that itâs not okay to punch a child a few too many times in this episode (I can see it in his eyes)
- Heâs playing the video of all the kids playing with their parents on Triacus and theyâre smiling but Iâm expecting Kirk to just say âand now.. your parents are dead.â - omg they really did just switch suddenly to their DEAD PARENTS. No remorse.
- This episode is fucking devastating
- Bones is going to come back from wherever the fuck he is and just, 'Jim, I specifically told you not to traumatize these kids.'
- The âangelâ dying is fucking horrifying
Now everythingâs fine and dandy. Not like the entire bridge just went through major mind fuck of an ordeal or anything
Masterpost
Episode written by Edward J. Lakso
So I didn't actually watch episode 3, I watched around 15 minutes and then said, 'I really just donât want to watch this episode. So I wonât.'
Only thoughts from this episode that I'm gonna mention are:
- The reason that they didn't let Spock point out the pine trees is because he would have said their scientific name
- âTypical human reaction to an idyllic natural setting.â McCoy says this with so little bite towards Spock, like heâs actually having a conversation with him and explaining what it is. AHH
- They could have easily left McCoy on the planet to search for Jim while Spock goes to divert the asteroid. If being alone was the issue they could've beamed down a security officer/team
Other than that... there's nothing. Sorry Margaret Armen.
