Releasing Patreon Bonus Stories
Hey all!!
I've taken a bit of a break from writing during September, but I'm returning to working on AToC starting from tomorrow. In the meantime, since I've had my Patreon up for over a year now, I thought it would be nice to release a few of the exclusive snippets to the public.
These are only a select few that I chose randomly to release, featuring a scene from the game told through the POV of the love interests. The ones included in this file are:
R meeting the Crown for the first time in CH2
A comforting the Crown after the nightmare in CH3
D seeing the Crown dressed up for the first time in CH4
X Seeing the Crown's coronation vision in CH7
I've also included snippets showing how the Crown's parents met each other, how X met Tûjo and Heval, and how Perjin met R told from Perjin's perspective.
You can download the file from this link. It's a zip file, so you'll have to unzip it ("extract all" option after right-clicking it), then open up the index.html file in any browser of your choice. Just make sure not to move any of the files outside of its folder, or you'll break the images/fonts!
If you enjoy these snippets, consider pledging to my Patreon! You can view the total list of available snippets for each tier in this Google doc, it'll be updated as I add more stories each month.
Thanks so much for all your support over these years, hope you enjoy these bonus snippets 💖
EDIT: This post is outdated, you can find the latest release of Patreon bonus stories in this post!!

Mini progress report, some ramblings and Patreon planning
Hello all! I just wanted to drop a note and check in. I haven't been around as much lately as I've had some busy things in my personal life going on (all good things, btw), and they've made me a bit sleepy. I have some asks baking in my inbox, but I will attend to them when I've got the energy saved up.
For now, I am still working on chapter 5 and she is a biggie. I do not know when the update will go through. I had hoped for October, but realistically it will probably be November. I'm giving myself some wiggle room since the season for me is shifting, and I often experience fatigue and some strong-sads when autumn/winter set in. I won't know for sure until it hits if I will be a sleepy mess or not, lol. Sometimes it doesn't hit until December.
Assuming I remain in good humor, I will be doing a lot of writing and testing in the coming days. Around this time last year is when I was finally writing the first chapter of GC. It really helped me get through the winter months, so I hope that this year will be much the same.
In fact, I found when I made the document for the outline and rough draft for the start of our story:
Between here and the very beginning of February 2024, I wrote the prologue and chapters 1 and 2 and then published them. This coming February, we should celebrate our 1 year anniversary, right?
Chapter 5 is coming along well. I've had a couple scenes that I want to go back over and refine since I either forgot something or they just didn't turn out the way I wanted. I have also written out an event that happens in chapter 7 which I am very (unreasonably) excited about. I could not help myself, it was burning a hole in my brain. It will, of course, develop a lot more after I have 5 & 6 actually done, but I can't wait until you get there.
Here is where Chapter 5 stands now:
This looks massive, but keep in mind there are two paths at the beginning of this chapter and each have unique events/consequences. Some of the text is shared here and there between them, and then they meet. This also includes code and such. I am at the mid-point of the chapter currently where there is a bit of downtime and the MC can get up to...a few things.
Such as this tease for a Duri-moment:
Just what are you two up to???
As for Patreon, if anyone is curious, I am still planning. The feedback I got from the poll along with messages and such have helped a lot. I am not sure when I will have things running since I am prioritizing the actual chapter writing while I've been busy with other things. Since my weekly schedule is going to be back to normal now, I can think about it more.
I have determined to take Patreon nice and slow. It will focus on just a few tiers to start (centered on only God-Cursed for the time being). From there, we'll grow things at a sustainable pace. Most were interested in extras (POVs & drabbles), so I will focus on those, early access, and spiciness. I had debated about starting this next year as opposed to, say, November or December. I may just shoot for whenever I have chapter 5 done. I feel like that's a good round place we can branch off from, and it will open up more flexibility in any bonus content I write.
I think that's all of what's been on my mind lately, and I've prattled too long as it is. I hope you are all safe and well!
Take care! ^_^

You’re awesome for posting fic updates not only consistently, but daily! Any tips for keeping up with writing?
Thank you so much! I love updates and writing being a part of my routine and I'm glad other people enjoy it too!
And sure, I can think of some tips:
First, there's a mixture of inspiration and forcefulness. I remember when I was really little I read a post somewhere about how if you want to take something seriously, you have to take it seriously on the days when you're inspired and on the days you're not. That changed how I treat art forever!
But years and years later I learnt a more important lesson, to never overlook the power of inspiration.
It's through a mixture of both that I can really keep up with writing. If I only wrote when inspired, sooner or later I'd get a loooong writing block that would leave me simply paralysed. But I'll often do the 'just one chapter' method, and often writing just a few paragraphs will get me back into the flow. But if I'm still very blocked after a chapter, that's fine.
But if I am inspired, I will follow that. Even if it takes my story in weird directions that weren't planned! A good example is that Caine rescuing Cass in the final S1 fic wasn't planned, she wasn't planned to come along in S2 and certainly did not expect her to fall in love... A lot of their scenes came from me writing while inspired.
Now, stuff such as Eugene's near death in S1 finale, the way Koto framed him, the way Cass had to deal with accusations of witchcraft, those stuff were planned way ahead of time!
It's really important to keep that balance, to have plans and also leave room for inspiration to run wild!
An added bonus, if you feel an intense desire to go write a fic that's completely different to the one you're trying to work on, just let inspiration win. I was struggling a bit with the 'Day of Animals' arc in tangled sisters the other day, then I got the urge to do a little Cass oneshot, so I wrote the oneshot in one sitting and have had zero issues writing since.
Sometimes you can unblock writing block with MORE writing! As long as you're letting inspiration guide you.
Second is to take breaks! I update every day but I do not write every day. I write a few times a week and usually have at least one really long session!
One of my currently updating fics 'Always By Your Side' I wrote half of it in like a week, took a few months break, then wrote the rest and started publishing!
Sometimes long breaks can really help. I've taken several long breaks with Tangled Sisters.
Third is stay ahead. With 'Always By Your Side' I have it completely written so I just proof read on the day of upload. Tangled Sisters I keep track of in Notion:
Look how cute my fanfic section is!
I'm usually at least 30 chapters ahead but I did take a writing break recently. Soon as I get the next arc done I expect to be well ahead again.
Fourth, motivation! This one isn't entirely your control, but a huge factor for keeping up is just that I'm super motivated! I can thank the amazing people who comment every day, those who comment occasionally, those who leave kudos or send nice asks like this one!
It does sooo much to make me smile and excited for the stories I'm telling.
And if you look at my fanfic section of notion, I have that little box titled kind words, the content actually changed every time I reload the page, it's linked to a little table where I keep track of all the kind words regarding my fics that I've gotten on Ao3 and tumblr! (I also have several bits of fanart by the amazing @rebecagpfs in that page who I cannot thank enough!!!)
So, although you don't have full control over motivation, having a notebook to collect those kind words can help!
Fifth would be talk to people. Have at least one person who's cool with spoilers cause brainstorming is just easier with somebody else! For me @the-writer1988 has got me through sooo many writer's blocks! Often times I just ramble at her until the problem resolves itself, other times it'd be a more active back and forth. But writing friends supporting each other, always great!
And hey, to anybody who wants to ramble about their fics to me I'm always open! I love hearing about people's fics and am huge on the writer supporting writers sorta mentality!
Sixth is just have fun! If you enjoy what you're writing it's going to be sooo much easier than if you don't.
I do want to point out though, every writer's different! I can sit down and write 10k words in one sitting, but a lot of people can't, just like I need five hour to do a drawing many artists can do in an hour.
Writing is an art and you get faster with experience.
Also, I do daily updates because I adore consistency! Having that routine is amazing for me and I think it's lovely for some readers. But I also accomplish that via very short chapters! Sometimes as short as just 600-700 words. Many authors opt for longer chapters that upload weekly but there still writing the same amount!
So yeah, I do hope this helped!
Thank you so much for the ask :D And if anything didn't make sense, please tell me, it's almost 1am here I just noticed but I really wanted to answer this before bed!

The End Of Tora Steals Things: A GW2 Fan Comic/Novel
Hey! So with the end of Amulet Of Bolli having gone up on Dec. 23rd, 2023, it's time to talk bout something I've been putting off for awhile now.
You read the title, let's get into it: The End Of Tora Steals Things.
Amulet Of Bolli is the last story I will make for Tora Steals Things. That's it. There's no more. It's ending there as I move forward with Apocalypse Child (which launched on Dec. 21st at apocalypsechildcomic.com!).
So why is it ending?
Those of you who've watched my streams probably already knew this as I've been talking about it ending for awhile now. Hell, many of you may have figured out it was singing its swan song when I first announced Apocalypse Child, or changed the update schedule to once every two weeks, or changed it to a webnovel format... Many of you probably knew it was dying before I was willing to admit it myself.
Truthfully, I have roughly 16 or so stories left for Tora Steals Things, and I really wanted to make them all. TST means a lot to me: it taught me how to make comics and it brought me joy during some of the hardest moments of my life. I'm honestly so touched that so many people read and enjoyed it over the years. You guys made it worth it, you really did.
However, TST has long lived past its due date, and this last story proved that to me. Amulet Of Bolli Part Two took six months to write--six months where I had no time to edit past a first draft, could not build a decent buffer, and had no time to work on writing for Apoclaypse Child. Did it take less time than it would have as a comic? Yes, absolutely, but it still took far more time and energy than what it's currently worth. It exhausted me to my limit to make.
I don't know what else to say, really--I burned out on TST years ago but just kept pushing. I'm sad I couldn't complete it the way I wanted to, sure, but I can't tell you how relieved I am to finally allow myself to stop working on it.
For those last 16-ish stories, they're now available in written summaries as bonus material for the deluxe edition of the third and final e-book for Tora Steals Things. I hope that will satisfy those of you curious over where the story was gonna go, had I kept making it.
On that note, the last e-book collecting the last of the comics and prose for TST is out and available for purchase: Volume 3--Contract Complete which you can pick up here.
What's next?
As my focus moves onto Apocalypse Child, the Patreon for Tora Steals Things has been made to re-focus on that as well. I'm still keeping all the previous rewards for TST available on that Patreon. In the future, time-willing, I may collect those rewards to sell in digital bundles alongside the e-books so that those of you interested in just the Tora Steals Things sketch pages, scripts, thumbnails, and so forth, can just buy it instead of signing up for the Patreon. I'm also considering doing a live Q&A stream for the ending of TST near the end of the month. Might not do it. Depends on interest, really.
If this is something that interests you, I'll be sure to update this space or my twitter (@GriffinSBNorth) if and when anything happens.
All that said, I wanna just like, thank those of you who read my work all this time. Tora Steals Things was always a bit out there as a fan project and it means the world to me that so many of you loved my hot mess of a plant thief and all his friends.
Really, truly, thank you.
And please, feel free to ask me questions if you have any.

3 and 4 for any fic! Tell me about your favourite stuff you've ever written!
Ask Game
!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is a day later than I intended to answer, partially because I ended up being Busy And Tired after work yesterday, partially because I fully did take this as an excuse to go reread all my favourite things that I've written
3: What’s your favourite line of narration?
I thought about this one for a while because I've produced some turns of phrase of which I am very proud over the years. This is very much a case of 'it changes by the day' but I do, for now, have a solid answer!
It's this bit of Painted By An Accidental Brush
Paultin snorts and shoves him in the shoulder, which knocks him into Evelyn, who promptly collides with Strix, and Paultin apparently expected more resistance because he overbalances and all four of them topple to the ground in a mess of squawking, shrieking, and tangled limbs. Diath is pretty sure he hears at least one plate break. Lying on the floor in a pile of his friends, he laughs.
I've been incredibly fond of this bit ever since I wrote it, for a number of reasons. One is that I feel like it properly captures the elements of the party dynamic that I loved in the original show really well, along with the personalities of the characters. Another is that I think it delivers on the atmosphere and emotion I was going for perfectly. And a third, which is the primary reason it's taking the 'favourite' spot at the moment, is that I actually struggle quite a bit with group scenes in my writing. They challenge me! Put more than three characters in a room together, all interacting with each other, and I start losing track of people and worrying all the time about the Potential Implications of who's talking most and who fades into the background and so on. About half the reason that I put chatfic segments in We Are Full Of Stories To Be Told is because portraying the dynamics of Tomix's friend group via groupchat gave me an excuse to avoid writing them physically in the same room (the other half of my reasoning was that I liked the idea of incorporating group chats as part of the worldbuilding & such of the fic, given it's set in the in-universe future XD) And this bit of narration is the end of a four character group scene that I'm still proud of and think I balanced well and, in a way, a miniature four character scene to itself. That more than earns it favourite status.
4: What’s your favourite line of dialogue?
Okay, so, I knew the answer to this immediately, but alas, my favourite bit of dialogue I've ever written for a fic is as-yet-unpublished and also for a scene that I absolutely refuse to spoil, so I cannot share it
I can, however, pick a runner-up. Which, on this occasion, is this part of the Hero & Tomix reunion in I'll Be Alive Next Year
“Tomix?” they ask, something impossibly fragile in the simple question. “I didn’t go,” he says, their last words to him ringing in his ears “I’m sorry it took me so long to make it back. I’ve missed you, my friend.”
I've written a whole bunch of fix-it fic reunions for these two and I have even more in the works but I don't think I'll ever quite top the sheer satisfaction that was having the first words Tomix says to the Hero after convincing them that he's real be a direct response to their last words to him before he died ("Don't go..."), with a bonus quoting his last words in the past tense because he lived ("I'll miss you" when he thought he was dying -> "I missed you" when he knows he'll get to live)

Himehiko Timeline
This is my best attempt to gather the information we get about the Tamasaka Himehiko line and thus the game universe timeline. It is based on what I've found in the game and bonus material, but it may yet be incomplete. If you have any information I'm missing, please let me know. It's also always possible we get more lore drops in extra material.
It'll be behind a cut, so I will edit any additional information into the post. If I add things, I'll try to keep track here of when the last edit was. This will obviously contain spoilers for the full game (especially Kisa's route - major spoilers for Kisa's route) as well as bits of side material. Specifically the First Anniversary Short Story and the Summer Light Novel, though also the pre-release short stories on the website and others.
Shout out to the other people who seem to have independently attempted the same project, including Anemone (@ snowblossom_jj on twitter) for something to double check myself against. Before I go right into the Himehiko Timeline, I'm going to put in some Japanese Theater History for context, though it's worth noting none of this is referenced specifically in the game and may differ within the Jack Jeanne universe.
As always, happy to answer questions via asks or elsewhere if you have them.
Japanese Theater History potentially of note.
1374 - Kan'ami (観阿弥) and 12 year old son Zeami (世阿弥) perform what would become known as Noh for the teenage shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu (足利 義満) who is so impressed by Zeami he gives him patronage. Zeami is educated in court and eventually becomes the Shogun’s lover. At 22, after his father’s death, he takes over the family troupe and begins to integrate his classical education and Buddhist instruction into the art. He goes on to formalize Noh, write plays for it, and treatises on acting and the Philosophy of Drama that continue to be informative to this day.
Of note, the idea of “hana” 『花』 is one of his core tenants, and his formulation of “the flower of youth” vs “the flower of experience” is referenced in game, though not credited.
1603 - Izumo no Okuni (出雲 阿国) creates Kabuki. It is originally performed by a troupe of all women.
1629 - Women are banned from Kabuki for “morality” leading to the form being taken over by “young men” who are later also banned for being too sexy, in moves through the next several decades.
Probably by the timeline we are given for Tamasaka, in our world, Kabuki would have been established as an all male form of theater, with men playing women’s roles referred to as “onnagata” as they are to this day. It is unclear if this history happens the same within the Jack Jeanne universe, as no mention of Kabuki itself happens in game, and Tamasakaza isn’t placed within it as a larger tradition, despite being described in much the way Kabuki is, suggesting perhaps in the Jack Jeanne universe, history diverges at some point.
1680s - Bunraku, (then known as Jourui) a form of Puppet Theater takes on something close to its modern form and starts becoming increasingly popular. Many famous Kabuki plays were originally written “for the puppets” and the literary tradition is considered overlapping.
1683 - Chikamatsu Monzaemon (近松 門左衛門, 1653 – 1725) has his first verified play produced. He is sometimes called the “Shakespeare of Japan”. He would continue writing plays for both puppet theater and kabuki, until around 1715. He was a writer, but did not act. He is most famous for his lovers’ suicides.
HIMEHIKO TIMELINE
1st Himehiko - His name was Chuza Tsukihiko (中座月彦), and he lived sometime in the “mid-Edo period’ about 300 years before the present. Specific dates are hard to pin down, but we’re looking at around (or maybe a little before or after) 1700. It is likely not exactly 300 years ago, give or take a few years, as no one in the game mentions any kind of anniversary, and you’d assume the 300th (or 200th of the established settled troupe) would be marked and mentioned.
He’s canonically called a "bishonen" and was known to be able to play both male and female roles. At this time, in our universe, no women would have been allowed on stage. We know his troupe was all male.
He receives the patronage of a local lord (much like Zeami) - the lord of the castle in Hiraki - Hiraki Matsubara (開松原). Matsubara was considered very talented and is credited with the town flourishing under his rule as well as the creation of Tamasaka and Tamasakaza.
He is given the name Tamasaka Himehiko 玉阪 比女彦 which he takes on, and which becomes the title passed down. (The name "Tamasaka" is mentioned to maybe be a play on the word 『偶さか』 implying a "rare, unusual kind of talent")
Though the troupe itself will be considered a traveling troupe for the next 100 years, it seems to have a sort of home base on that lord’s land. They are given land for a stage there, the forebearer of the Tamasaka theater that exists to day.
We know little about him, but one thing we know is that he was quite fond of the story of the catfish god in Ayahama (which is historically near where Hiraki Castle is), and used to dance in tribute there. The relationship between Tamasaka and the hot springs goes back all the way to him.
There is one Wisteria tree on Mt. Oodate, and he is said to have been fond of it. (Fuji Musume - 藤娘- is one of the most famous Kabuki dance/plays, though technically it would have, in our universe, postdated the first generation Himehiko, it is likely a reference).
He dies of “severe, violent emotional suffering”.
He is enshrined in Himehiko shrine, and may actually be buried there. He is worshipped there as a god of theatre, and a bringer of fortune in other endeavors as well. This would imply the shrine is established well before the troupe settles.
2nd - The next Himehiko is the elder brother of the first. We don’t know if the rule that was later in place that the title be passed to someone under the age of 30 was in place yet. It may imply that the troupe, like Zeami’s was a family affair at least in part, from the beginning, if his brother was considered the natural next head.
3rd - The eldest son of the 2nd.
History that happens at an unclear point in the timeline after this --
At some point after this, though it does not seem to be specifically after the 3rd, in the way it’s told, one generation of Himehiko will choose to pass the title onto an adopted son. Rather than the adopted son taking the Chuza name as well, this son becomes the start of a new branch family, known as the Tamasaka branch. From this point on, the title will occasionally pass between the Tamasaka and Chuza branches, eventually developing into quite the rivalry. The Tamasaka branch became known as “true flowers” or the more talented of the two branches. The exact timeline of all of this unclear.
At some point, after several early, tragic deaths of people carrying the Himehiko name, both branches of the family begin to speak of a “Himehiko Curse” - which causes those who take the title to die young. They believe in this so strongly that people from both branches will sometimes pass up the title, or defer it, to try to avert the fate. However, it doesn’t seem to be something that affects every Himehiko. Just enough of them for it to be considered a threat in the family.
How it operates and if it is one of the genuine supernatural forces in the Jack Jeanne universe is unclear. The first Himehiko dies of severe mental suffering. The cause of death for others is not established.
It is possible that, either supernaturally or non-supernaturally, it is the distillation of the stress, politics, rivalries, burdens, and expectations of the theatre.
All of this happens and is well established between the 3rd Himehiko and the 10th Himehiko, but specifics are vague.
At some point, a rule is added that the title is past to a young man under the age of 30.
It seems some people may pass the title down before they die, rather than it only transferring via death. It is unclear the effect this has on the curse within the narrative of it. At another point, rather than taking the full stage name of Himehiko, each generation takes only half as their stage name - either Hime or Hiko, plus an additional character. This was done to try to avoid the “curse”. It does not work.
4th - A tree in the courtyard of Himehiko Shrine, which contains many trees, including many fruit trees, is said to have been planted by him. All we get is that the tree is “planted in the lucky direction.”
It is possible this is an Ume tree, which apparently can be considered a protective charm against evil and is traditionally planted in the northeast corner of a garden. Other than this, I can’t find much — the other mentions of lucky directions change by year, and don't seem to be what’s being referred to.
5th - nothing is known
6th - nothing is known
7th - Established Tamasaka Drama School as per random Neji encounter. Neji says he ‘fell in love with…’ and is then cut off. We get no other info from that encounter, or elsewhere.
It’s possible that the establishing of the Drama School coincided with the settling of the Troupe from a traveling one to a stationary one, but that’s not mentioned directly. If so, that would put 7th at about 100 years after the 1st, and about 200 years before the present.
It is unclear if from this point on all Himehiko’s also serve as Principal of the School or not.
At some point “several generations back (from present)” the principal of the school plants Night Jasmine on Mt. Oodate.
(About 200 years ago, the Takashina Style of dance is founded as a family dance tradition. It has no association with Tamasakaza, but given it’s part of the timeline we get, plus the Kabuki/Nihon Buyo overlap in our universe, I’m putting it on here.)
8th - The tree he planted at the shrine is the most prominent one. No other info is known.
9th - nothing is known.
10th - From the Tamasaka Line. Very likely the older brother of the 11th - According to the Anniversary Short Story, he dies a shocking and tragic death (that would fit within the narrative of the Himehiko Curse). The title would then be passed to his younger brother.
11th - Real name Tamasaka Shikitoshi 玉阪 志木年 - stage name unknown. He is the current head of the troupe during the Meiji era merger of Hikari and Tamasaka, as depicted in the Anniversary Short Story. That takes place in 22nd year of the Meiji Era - 1889, giving us our first firm date.
According to Tancho, the lead Hiko actor at the time was rather critical and nagging of him, but in the events depicted in Neji’s play, ultimately is willing to almost give his life to protect 11th.
In Neji’s telling of the events he is described as innovative, as well as a very shrewd politician. And rather indifferent or reckless about threats against his own life.
He has two daughters and no sons. Presumably no one else in the Tamasaka branch has any sons of eligible age either. To prevent the name from passing back to the Chuza branch, and perhaps as a test on the limits of the Himehiko Curse, to see if it would spare women, Shikitoshi passes the title to his second daughter.
We have no information on why not the first daughter - whether she was over 30, or less skilled, or didn’t want it - all we know is that he passed it to his second daughter.
12th - The second daughter of the 11th. Member of the Tamasaka Family. First and only female Himehiko. The tree she donated to the shrine is marked with an actor’s crest of clappers — something recognizable as specifically belonging to her.
Despite being a woman, she was not just a figurehead, and actively acted in Tamasaka Plays. There is at least one that she was quite fond of, that involved a Kimono salesperson and a woman walking around on “Izayoi” - a play that the troupe stopped performing after her early and tragic death.
Tagane was involved in a revival of this play at some point, likely a pretty clear sign of his loyalty to the Tamasaka Branch faction.
At some point, it is likely that she placed a platinum Kanzashi bearing her crest in a wooden box in a tree hollow near Himehiko Shrine, following the superstition and custom born out of the Tamasaka play “Tearful Kanzashi." “Tearful Kanzashi" depicts a young woman (the fourth daughter of a man with no sons, who is abused and locked away by her father in anger after her birth also kills her mother) putting the Kanzashi her lover gives her into a tree by a shrine she stops at to pray to be reunited with him in the next life, before throwing herself off a cliff. (For more, see the Summer Light Novel chapter).
This also takes place on the 16th night of the lunar cycle. It is unclear if the play is the same one — but since the summary is given to Suzu and Kisa by a Kimono salesman, it seems unlikely that it wouldn’t include that detail if it were the same — rather it seems likely Tearful Kanzashi predates the 12th, and Tamasaka just has a lot of plays that use "Izayoi" in them.
This may indicate that the 12th takes her own life like the woman in the play, but it’s all speculation beyond that her death fits within the narrative of the Himehiko Curse.
After her early, tragic death, the title passes back to the Chuza Branch, and the whole incident/experiment is considered a disaster.
12th's older sister, and thus the surviving Tamasaka Branch go into hiding of some kind. She has children, thus continuing the line, under an assumed name. The Tamasaka branch retains supporters both in the troupe and the town, who believe that the Tamasaka branch have true talent that the Chuza branch lacks.
13th - Chuzu Dairi (中座内吏), stage name Uchihime (内比女).
After the death of the 12th, the title passes back to the Chuza line for the first time in 80 years. He quickly makes a new rule, reserving the Himehiko title for the Chuza branch, further pushing the Tamasaka branch into hiding and out of power.
We know he was born in the Meiji era (ended 1912) and lived until Showa (started 1926).
He had a strong interest in western style plays and musicals, and is the one who renamed the Tamasaka Drama School to Univeil Drama School, as well as changing the roles from Hiko and Hime to Jack and Jeanne within the school.
(For what it’s worth, Takarazuka is started in 1913. It was based heavily on western, particularly French musical Revue in direct contrast to Kabuki. It was started by a businessman in the city of Takarazuka as an all women’s theater company. Much of Jack Jeanne is based on a gender swap of Takarazuka as inspiration, but its timeline and the actual style of Tamasaka do not match Takarazuka. But this is a Himehiko Timeline so no more on Takarazuka for now.)
He apparently made a good deal of innovations to the troupe as well, and seems to have been quite active and hands on in both.
It’s hard to pin down how long and exactly when he lived and was in charge.
Kisa’s class being the 78th class would put the first numbered class in 1942, which is a particularly strange year for a traditional theater school in Japan for young, fit boys to be rebranding to a western aesthetic. It would literally be months after the attack on Pearl Harbor and several years into a war that greatly disrupted all forms of theater, calling most able bodied men to arms, rather than dance - so that’s something to consider when trying to fit the timeline. Perhaps there are years missing - a reversion to the old name, a pause in the numbering, but for some reason they pick up from where they left off, rather than restart? There is no indication in any material of any of this, either way.
14th - Takahiko (鷹彦) - the grandfather of Chuza Shuri, the current/18th Himehiko. Written with the character for “Hawk” and is noted as having very sharp eyes, but otherwise looking very much like Shuri. The game’s timeframe puts him taking up the title some time when black and white portraits were still most common, but recent enough that an old lady alive and walking around Tamasaka remembers him as a young man.
Apparently, he married a wealthy local family’s daughter after taking the position of Himehiko - and this old woman remembers having a crush on him at the time, and being disappointed - so one could guess that she was at least in her teens then.
The game’s menu actually says he’s the one who designed the school, rather than 13th - so perhaps Takahiko is the one who designed it architecturally - even if the rebrand happened before hand.
15th - nothing specifically is known
16th - nothing specifically is known
17th - nothing specifically is known
We know nothing about these or the order they were in, but one was almost certainly Shuri's father. In the anniversary short story, Tancho mentions Shuri's father by name. His name seems to have been Chuza Osamu (中座倫). From what Tancho says, the implication is that Shuri's father maybe have been principal before him, whether right before or not is not clear, or if he served this role concurrent with the title of Himehiko or not is also unclear. As previously stated, it's unclear if Principal of the School and Head of the Troupe are jobs all Himehiko's serve as part of the title, or if only some do. So it's possible that he held one and not the other or one for longer than the other - i.e. continued running the school after passing the name down or something.
All we get is the name, and that Tancho both knew/knows him and what his preference for incense was/is (and that its different than Shuri's).
It is possible an uncle and/or brother of his also held the position, as there is a nephew of his in Tamasakaza right now, which means Shuri has at least one (almost certainly) older sibling.
18th - Chuza Shuri (中座秋吏), stage name Akihime (秋比女) (Written with the character for Autumn, a kanji from his given name).
Currently the principal who is not well liked by Tamasaka Elders. Still seems to technically be the head of the troupe, but displays no desire to actually do anything onstage and finds his obligations to the Troupe to be a chore. Considers himself decent enough at both dance and singing (apparently singing is something Chuza branch is usually considered weaker in, or so he says).
He is in tension with the board over many things - Chui says the situation around him is “worse than you know,” implying there may be far more going on than anyone tells Kisa, and thus the player.
The Tamasaka Elders seem, from what we’re told, to want to make Univeil into more of a training school for Tamasaka (again?) - and Chuza is resistant to the idea.
19th - In a weekend event, the old lady in Tamasaka who tells Kisa about the 14th seems to state Akihime is the previous rather than current Himehiko (at least in the English). But everyone else seems to refer to him as the current one. Maybe she’s misremembering, maybe she’s got Opinions on his lack of participation and how much the board hates him - which she also mentions. Who knows.
The two candidates for the position seem to be Chui - the Tamasaka branch heir, and already seen as kind of a god, and Shuri's nephew (mentioned in a VERY missable Sou event on 8/1 - who is currently a Hime actor in Tamasaka, who is “treated like a king” as part of the Chuza family there. He apparently doesn’t resemble Shuri much.)
One presumes the Tamasaka board has its factions on which one they support, and, regardless, are preparing them to hold the position more to the boards liking than Shuri.

#7 & 8 please for the fic writer asks. Hope your week ends better than it has been so far.
7. What's the story or fic that you're most excited to work on or share next year?
That would be my Super Secret Firstprince one. It is SO different to anything I've ever written, it is trope central, and it has involved me looking up things like "when was Wikipedia founded?". I'm being deliberately vague about it because I want the central premise to be a surprise, but I am excited about this mostly-book-canon-compliant exploration of Alex and Henry's relationship and what they want for their future.
8. What mood has been most prevalent in your works this year?
I am an angst girl. I will take my blorbos and then I will make them suffer. Alex literally has a breakdown in this SSF fic. Henry comes close to having one too but it's more panic attack variety. Alex's whole world is shattering. It's an Alex-centric narrative fic because of Reasons™ which means Alex, and the reader, needs to figure out some shit.
But I am also a happy ending gal. I'm happy to share that the spectrum I'm working with for this fic is Chapter One and the Bonus Chapter of the book. We are in wedding planning mode and there will be a wedding. No one is going to die. It's just gonna be one hell of a path to get there. I know exactly what the final scene is going to be and the boys will be happy and in love and married. Dont think you can spoil something which is destined to be.
(I think I'm hoping that I am someone's blorbo being put through the same. I have had my breakdown this week and I am suffering but hopefully there is a happy ending coming.)

Counter-counter-custom ask. Let's do something a little off the beaten path. What sort of reader are you? Are you on the "read omnivorously, time and spoons allowing" bandwagon, or do you find that you gravitate towards specific things? What do you read for, when you're reading for Not Work (however defined)? Can be fanfic or original, fiction or not, or a little bit of everything <3 Optional Bonus: what do you tend to avoid, if anything (genres, tropes, styles, or in your flavor)? Same parameters as above. Optional Bonus, Extra Special Edition: What's the relationship between reading and writing for you?
Ohhh reading questions <3 Thank you, my friend. I always appreciate your custom asks. They are a joy to answer!
I am a read everything kind of person, for sure, within parameters which are parts of the next couple questions lol. I frequently have more spoons for reading than for anything else at the end of my day, and reading is still productive enough for my brain to forgive me my idleness lol. (I do loudly protest hustle culture but I have a soul-deep perhaps even genetic inability to sit still with nothing productive to do, especially now that I am feeling marginally better injury-wise than I have over the last few years.)
I like fantasy genre best of all, but do like a good sci-fi story once in a while. Sometimes creative non-fiction. Occasionally poetry collections. Infrequently contemporary. I tend not to read horror because I'm a chicken lol Well, I'm an editor, which I've mentioned a humble amount of times. Here and there, perhaps infrequently lol so reading is work, too, but it's different. When I read for just the sheer joy of reading, I'm not reading for anything except a good story. Applies to fic, too. I ask "What makes this a good story?" and "What about this is working?" "What can I forgive not working if the story itself is still compelling?" and things like that, so that I can figure that out for myself when I'm writing, which I suppose translates back to the end of this question, so I'll scoot it up here.
I believe making the time to invest in what you're reading is the greatest gift you can give yourself as a writer besides actually sitting down to write and defending your writing time. Ask yourself why story beats and characters are working for you to create an entertaining experience. If a book leaves something to be desired, allow yourself the time to be critical of why. If you seem to frequently be unable to find the story you want to read, again, be critical of how these books are falling short -- and also what elements have the most potential, even if the author didn't follow through in a way you expected. Enjoy the process anyway -- allow yourself to like books that are imperfect. This attitude translates back to your work, too. Things don't have to be perfect, especially out of the gate. Having an understanding of what you'd like to see/improve is different than expecting your first draft to be perfect. Mindset matters here, too. So enjoy books and read widely. That translates back to writing in more ways than I can explain.
I am very forgiving when I'm reading outside of work. (Those I've beta read for or have edited before will know I am gentle in my advice, but still push the author to bring out the best in their work.) I am a lot more willing to overlook glaring structural problems especially in fic if the characters are well written. I am willing to overlook a lack of characterization if the action scenes are unputdownable.
I think the only things I avoid at all costs these days are pwp fic, really and romance as a genre by itself. It's boring to me, doesn't affect me, and really doesn't bring that element of having a good story to the table generally speaking. Sometimes it does? I suppose? But at least with romance novels it's more formulaic, and I'm already bored by the premise of simply romance with nothing else outside of it and doesn't risk much from what I've been able to stomach of the years. (This doesn't mean I don't like drama with a dash of romance or stories that have threads of romance! That's different and not what I mean here.)
And pwp for me is like... well I've said this before in complete jest but it's true. Trying to get me to read it and have an opinion on it for you is like trying to defeat a Ghost Type Pokémon with a Normal type Pokémon or vice versa. It just isn't the right material and I'm not the right audience and the whole point of the thing is lost on me. (:

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love❤
Ooo, thank you for the ask! But how will I choose?? I definitely have a recency bias with my writing, partly because I know that I've gotten better over time so some of my older fics aren't really up to my current standard in terms of things like pacing, especially. But setting that aside, there are still some of my early fics that hold a special place in my heart, so I'll try to pick from across the board. 1. Starting with an old fic, actually, The Measure of a Man (Octopath Traveler, Rated E) is still a favorite of mine, even after 3 years. I just really enjoyed the deep dive into Olberic's sense of self and exploring how, after getting married and starting a family, he would still have some struggles in terms of his purpose and his worth. It was kind of like taking his canon story and bringing it full circle (by the gods I love that man!) 2. Next, Sins of the Father (Skyrim, Rated M), my first novel-length longfic! I put a lot of work into this one, and it was the first time that I managed to successfully develop a plot with, like, a story arc and whatnot. Still very proud of how this one turned out, since it required a lot of playing with lore and developing the backstory of characters who didn't get much of one in the game (including my first fully fleshed out original character who really stole my heart) 3. Another favorite is Fashion Party Confidential (Drawtectives, Rated T) I had so much fun putting together what is essentially meant to serve as a bonus episode after season 2. I structured it similarly to a real episode, complete with drawings made by each of the characters and an original NPC for them to harass help. I re-watched the series before I started writing and felt like I had a really good grasp of the character voices, and I'm very happy with the dialogue and how in-character it feels. And I had fun with the fashion theme of the story, given my background in fashion design and the fact that it fits in canonically with York's story, as well as the opportunity to reflect the players' fashion knowledge - or lack thereof - in the drawings (sorry, Nathan)
4. Next is Would She Love Me If She Knew? (Octopath Traveler, Rated M) I debated including this one on its own or combining it with the sequel (which, spoilers, is also on this list), but I feel like they are different enough thematically that I can talk about them separately. This fic was me diving headfirst into the royal/guard trope and essentially writing an entire romance novel, lol! It took me 9 months to write and was (at the time) the longest thing I had written. By this point I was starting to get the hang of pacing things properly without rushing them, letting the story breathe and take its time getting where it wanted to go. And I have to admit that this is my favorite version of H'aanit and Olberic that I've written so far - I absolutely loved making them face adversity before they could get together, putting obstacles in their way so that they would pine and despair about ever being able to have a relationship. Oh, that delicious angst! This fic set a new bar for me, and I've become a better writer because of it. 5. And of course, the as yet unfinished (but so close!) The Head That Wears the Crown (Octopath Traveler, Rated T). More than two years in the making, and I'm still stuck on the climax of the story, argh!!! Nevertheless, crafting this one has been so rewarding, given that it ties into WSLMISK but uncovers all of the sinister hints that I left in that story of a bigger issue to come. There's a mystery to solve, a conspiracy to uncover, and so much goddamned trauma to deal with! Some of my favorite character development to date is in this story, and I can't wait to (somehow get through this writer's block and) hopefully give this whole thing a satisfying ending. I've learned so much about plot and how to do foreshadowing and developing a complex villain while writing this fic. And as a bit of a bonus... I'll just say that I have a new Octopath Traveler 2 fic that I am *nearly* ready to start posting (just waiting on feedback from my beta, which *should* happen today) that I am currently in love with. Recency bias may play into this, of course, but I can't wait to share it! It's a Castti/Osvald Gothic Romance AU titled Memories Seep From My Veins :)

AO3 is down so I finally finished reading over here. I take my time, sorry. So Finlay is endgame huh? Nellie and David make sense. She seems more secure with him than the others. David just knows what he wants so I'm glad she finally found herself a real man that's gonna lock it down. Jay missed out and I hope it's killing him that she's with David. Now Riley...he really can't do anything right. Kissing her when she was sad and drunk was a big no-no. Nellie stepping over his stuff was SAVAGE. I'm already rooting for evil Nellie 😈
No worries!!! Thank you SO much for reading and taking your time to send this. I know AO3 is down, but I've been thinking in the back of my head that people haven't said much to me about this fic because they lowkey hate what I've done 😅 So this means a lot to me. But yes, David is endgame. And while I'm not gonna sit here and lie that my own personal bias toward him had absolutely nothing to do with that decision, a lot of thought actually went into it. And since you sent this ask, I'm gonna go through and explain individually why all of Nellie's other love interests just weren't it for anyone who may be wondering! (And reveal just how different things could have turned out 😅)
Okay so first up: Jay. There was a point in time where Jay was endgame. You remember that teaser scene I posted where someone is reluctantly congratulating Nellie for being engaged? Jay put the ring there (and Zack was the person speaking). And to be perfectly honest, if I had finished this fic before Jay lost the IWGP title and left NJPW for real, he probably would have remained endgame. But then he left, and I started thinking about how Nellie's whole life is in Japan, and how her career would really just be starting to take off right around when Jay left. And then I started thinking about how he really didn't treat her that well at all, and I realized her taking him back would have looked so spineless. And so I started looking elsewhere for Nellie's endgame.
Now, I still have to write Jay's arc, and there's still some stuff going on between him and Nellie in that. But she's definitely going to keep him at arm's length, and he's going to lowkey try to sabotage her getting together with David (which I alluded to a bit in the first flashback scene). So Jay and Nellie's story definitely isn't done as written yet.
Next up: Kyle. Like Jay, there was a (brief) moment in time where Kyle was endgame! HOWEVER. I base my fics as much in reality as possible re: schedules and real storylines/fueds, etc. And after Kyle and Nellie hookup in fall 2021, based on Kyle's actual schedule (as detailed on Cagematch; I fucking live on that site) and what I had in mind for Nellie, they don't see each other again for a whole ass year. And by the time they do see each other again, Nellie is already in the process of reconnecting with David. (Yes, reconnecting! They go on a date wayyy back in 2017 during Nellie's first trip to Japan, which I also have plans to write about.) And actually, Kyle plays a part in Nellie realizing she has feelings for David—which is yet another thing I plan to write about. (It might be a flashback scene in part 2, actually.)
But to sum up Kyle and Nellie: right person, wrong time. It really is kind of bittersweet. And I wrote a REALLY long scene establishing Kyle as endgame that I might just post as a bonus because I worked hard on it and like it and don't just want to scrap it.
Zack. There's honestly not much to say here. Zack and Nellie have hella chemistry, but they don't work as a couple (outside the bedroom 🤭). And that's basically the entire reason they don't get back together despite Zack being the only one of Nellie's love interests/exes who lives in Japan. He was never (seriously) considered to be an option for endgame (despite that Cruel Summer fic I wrote that I regret every time I remember it 🙃). I do plan on writing a bit about when they were together before they realized they weren't right for each other, though.
And last and maybe least. Riley. Riley was never endgame. (After the rewrite) He was never anything more than a casual ongoing hookup for Nellie before she got together with Zack. But like I've written, she has a soft spot for him because she pities him a bit, I think 😂 That being said, her stepping over his things on the way to the Bullet Club locker room was absolutely a deliberate choice on my part.
So yeah, there's my long-ass explainer, and I hope it helps anyone who may be thinking I just willy nilly threw Nellie together with David. And thank you again for reading and seeing my vision. It means more than you know 💖

Whump Intro
Hi, hello!
Um, I’ve been avoiding this intro bc I am a shy awkward hermit that usually just lurks and likes stuff, but that doesn’t really work on Tumblr so here I am! Plus I wanted to use Whumptober to force myself into sharing my writing and figured it might be useful to introduce myself first.
You can call me starlit, or anna, or hey you, I don’t really care lol. She/her pronouns. I love reading fantasy & fantasy romance, writing, and playing RPG video games when I have the time (usually fantasy based-are we sensing a theme here? 😂)
Before we get to more about me nonsense-
Acknowledgements!
Shout out to @i-can-even-burn-salad
For beta reading for me and then being brave enough to share her stories with me. And for sucking me into Tumbler lol. And for talking to me all the time and making me laugh. And for being such a great person. <3
I love her writing and stories so much. Please, please, check her writing out. It's worth it, I promise! Bring tissues though!!
Best internet friend ever trophy, where is it? I need to send it… oh, there it is. Here you go, Elli! 🏆🎉💜
I haven't had the opportunity to check out many other blogs yet, bc someone has such an extensive back catalog 👀 😂 but tagged below is the one I have read. I devoured Traces in one day because it was so good. Highly recommend!
Traces by @whumping-in-the-wings - Thanks for writing such a great story! Can't wait to see what happens next :)
(Obligatory disclaimer: heed the warnings. They are well-tagged.)
I've got my eye on several other blogs once I have a little more time. Hope ya'll like spam likes/reblogs/comments, bc I'm a bit enthusiastic 😂
Ok, back to me, I suppose. Under the cut 🤣
I tend to use emojis excessively, but don’t expect me to know the meaning of them beyond face-value expressions. I shamelessly claim elder millennial status as an excuse (which means I’m 18+, obviously).
I’m audhd (combo autistic/adhd), but I didn’t find that out until earlier this year, so I’m still very used to tiptoeing around people and holding myself back out of self-preservation. Working on that though, bc I’m tired of that shit.
Erm, also… fuck is my favorite word. If you don’t like foul language, I might not be a great fit for you.
I joined Tumblr about a month ago, so I am still learning and ask for your patience. (I will probably be learning for quite some time, tbh) If I’m doing something wrong, please let me know so I can fix it.
Asks are welcome, although not sure what you would ask me lol. With asks, keep in mind that I’m literal as fuck and context is everything :D
As is fairly common from what I’ve seen in this community, I’ve daydreamed whump for as long as I can remember, and it’s nice to:
1. know what to call it 🥲
2. find someplace where I don’t feel weird about getting it out of my head and putting it on digital paper. Well, not quite as weird haha.
I’m super nervous to post on here, but that’s what I’m here for, so… deep breaths 😶
Likes:

Revenge against whumper
Creepy/intimate whumper

Recovery arcs, bonus points for romance <3
Eventual Happy endings after copious amounts of suffering
I write what I like, btw. I have written explicit romance previously, but I’m not sure if I will here.
I will try to be diligent with my warnings, but as those are new for me as well, I may miss some. Please let me know if I do and I will fix it! (within reason, don't ask me to tag something like sadness. that's a typical emotion. extremes like depression, yes. sadness, no.)
* Disclaimer: I will only ever write fantasy. I prefer to read fantasy as well, but I have made exceptions when I get the tropes I want :D
Squicks:
I’m willing to try most anything once.
In general though, I tend to avoid cannibalism, major character death, hard-core conditioning, whumper redemptions, bad caretakers
I’m excited to join the community here and looking forward to participating in Whumptober! I have no idea how well I’ll keep up since I only decided to write for it 3 days before the event, but I’m willing to try 😅
Even if I can’t keep up during October's events, I do plan to finish the storyline and there will be a happy end :D
Fuck, this got long. Sorry!!!
See you all around! 💜

i have a really long list of questions for you: 8/15/43/74/4/14/51/78
I love a long list! Okay, here we go:
4. What is the plot bunny you’ve been carrying for the longest? Optional bonus question: do you ever wonder why you haven’t written it yet and experience deep existential dread?
Ah, there is a WIP that has been in the works since 2012. The plan was to get it done this year... and that has not happened.
For the bonus question... the dread part yes. But I have faith that I will eventually get to it!
8. What’s your relationship with constructive criticism and feedback like? Do you seek it out? How well do you take it?
It depends. If it's stuff like "hey, you missed a typo" or something, I welcome it- as long as it's delivered politely. I once got a message that just said "your grammar is slipping" with no details about what was the issue specifically.
If it's stuff like "I don't like this story choice you made" then I don't want it, no. Because you can just stop reading and find another fic you do like. Or go write your own story with the choices you do like.
I don't give constructive criticism unless I'm specifically asked for it, partly for the above reasons. And partly because I'm a teacher, so I spend my whole day giving kids feedback and I am tired.
14. What’s your worst writing habit?
Ohh... that is a tough one. I don't know! I'm sure I'll be dwelling on this for at least the next week now, so if I work it out, I'll come back to this.
15. Where do you share your writing?
FFnet mostly. But also I've just started crossposting to Ao3 this year (and I will start posting all my old Wicked stuff once I finish my current WIP).
And I've written about 15-odd MCU fics that I've only shared with a friend via email, they aren't posted anywhere.
43. How did writing change you?
I mean, I've been writing stories since I was at least six years old, so I don't really remember not writing to be able to answer this question.
Writing fanfiction specifically (once I realised this was a thing and I wasn't a weirdo for writing about fictional characters)? It made me a better writer, it gave me friends all around the world, and it gave me a space to love the things I love; which then I carry into the other areas of my life.
51. Share the synopsis of a story you work on that you haven’t published yet
My next fic which will (fingers crossed) be posted in December is called An Autocorrect Arrangement- and all the tropes within were voted on by readers!
It's a Modern AU, Christmas (well, Lurlinemas) Hallmark movie trope- type featuring a few surprise guests.
I don't know if I have the synopsis finalised yet, but here's what I've got so far:
Thanks to the joys of autocorrect and a misunderstanding, Fiyero’s family thinks he’s bringing home his girlfriend for Lurlinemas- Elphaba. And because Elphaba is a great friend, she agrees to go along with the ruse. Because what’s the harm?
74. Are you a planner, pantser, or planster?
Depends on the fic really. Usually the bigger the fic, the more it is planned.
An Autocorrect Arrangement, only has a rough outline. I'm mostly just seeing where the characters take me.
The fic that has been in the works since 2012? Fully planned in great detail.
But even then, if the characters want to do their own thing, I may let them. Nothing is set in stone.
78. How do you choose where to end a chapter?
Usually there's just a moment or a line where things have come to a natural break.
I really only choose to end a chapter when a scene has become a huge thing, and I realise there needs to be a new chapter.
I don't really know how to describe it other than "there's a vibe."

Fanfic End of Year Asks: 3, 14, 18, 19, 21, 23, & 25
Thank you for the asks @nestledonthaveone!
3 favourite line/scene you wrote this year
Oh…. Hard to choose! I’ll do top three 😅
Top 3 lines:
(Un)Common Attraction, Ch17 – Helluva View:
"And knowing what I did about Drake, I realise that this bike really captured the essence of who he was – power and reliability cloaked in an understated exterior that promised you a no-holds-barred ride if you were willing to take a chance on it."
(Un)Common Attraction, Bonus Chapter – Crazy:
"I had no idea what I was going to do if she said 'yes'. Probably drown myself in whiskey... or seriously consider moving back to Texas."
Sleepless in New York, Ch1 – Best Laid Plans:
"The plane hadn't even taxied to a stop yet and Max was already getting ready to burst out the doors like a lunatic out of an asylum."
Top three scenes:
(Less Than) Noble Intentions, Ch2 – I’ve Been Waiting For You:
This was the first sex scene I ever wrote (ever!) and I am very happy with how it turned out (even though I’ve written steamier stuff since then).
(Less Than) Noble Intentions, Ch6 – Confiteor:
The conversation with Harper’s family. I was literally giggling out loud as I wrote this.
Sleepless in New York, Ch2 – First Impressions
Even though it took a while to come together, I loved delving deeper into Drake’s head, and exploring what he could’ve been thinking when he laid eyes on Harper the first time. And, of course, the Italian.
14 a fic you didn’t expect to write
All the one shots! I honestly didn’t think I was a one-shot type of writer, but since I did my first Wacky Drabble, I seem to have discovered a rabbit hole of mini-fics to tie into my main TRR rewrite.
18 current number of wips
3 (a new Drake POV bonus chapter for (Un)Common Attraction, Ch3 for Sleepless in New York and Ch10 for (Less Than) Noble Intentions)
19 any new fics to start next year
Probably more one shots. Other than that, I am planning to hopefully finish Sleepless in New York, (Less Than) Noble Intentions and the Thanksgiving one shot (which has now turned into a short story).
21 most memorable comment/review
Your review of Ch2 – I’ve Been Waiting for You of (Less Than) Noble Intentions. That sudden-stop boat gif still cracks me up whenever I think about it!
23 fics you wanted to write but didn’t
An original story (not TRR) that is kind of a Tomb Raider / Jack Ryan cross-over. I have bits and pieces in my head, but I’ve been so engrossed in Harper and Drake that I haven’t really had the headspace to focus on this story. But, maybe next year!
25 a fic you read this year you would recommend everyone read
Oh, God… So many again! I’ll do top three once more (no particular order):
Savage Love by @angelasscribbles
Secret Agent Riley is so kick-ass! And Captain Drake Walker... 🥵
Cordonian A**holes by @ritachacha
These were epic! So on-point and very funny!
The Butcher, the Blender, and the Little Ketchup Packet by @burnsoslow
This was one of the first fics I've read here on Tumblr and OMG I’ve never laughed so hard in my life!😆

hi! i've been following your blog bc of harringrove for a while and i really resonate with your taste in fic so, since i've just recently dipped my toes in lawrusso... could you rec me a few of your fav fics for the ship? i always feel pretty overwhelmed when starting in a new fandom, so i thought i would ask. thanks in advance! 😘
Hi!!
I am honored (and terrified) to help you get ankle deep in lawrusso fics.
Under a cut because it was a lot of scrolling when I made this.
in the business of date-crashing by narcissablaxk, T, 4706 words
“Spotted: newly divorced Mr. LaRusso at Home Depot at nine a.m. on a Saturday,” the message said. The picture was blurry but there was no denying that he was looking at a picture of Daniel LaRusso, in jean shorts and a baggy flannel shirt, his hair mussed and, if he looked closely, a streak of grey by his temple.
It was a good look.
“DILF,” was all Hawk’s reply said, and then a flurry of little picture emoticons that Johnny didn’t understand.
He had to use the Google to figure out what a DILF was.
Probably the first fic I read in this fandom. It's very fun.
He's My Karate Husband by lostmagician, E, 1945 words
What the hell was going on? Was this another one of Johnny's pranks? The worst part was that Johnny seemed unfazed whenever he said it—like he was just stating the way things were.
(Or: the one where Johnny keeps calling Daniel his karate husband, and Daniel doesn't understand why)
Also a fun story.
Safe Word: Cobra Kai by Zerrah, M, 5288 words
In a bout of overprotectiveness, Daniel follows Sam to an unconventional club, and gets more than he bargained for.
One where Johnny totally knows what Daniel really wants.
Love by Amymone, G, 1165 words
Johnny just wants to tell LaRusso that he loves him. What could possibly go wrong?
It's cute.
The Last Coors Banquet in the Valley by LulaMadison, M, 29436 words
During the zombie apocalypse Johnny Lawrence searches for the last Coors Banquet in the valley, but instead he finds a 16 year old kid living alone in an abandoned apartment block. He decides to teach the kid how to be a badass Zombie killer.
(I know some people don't like major character deaths in fic, but there are no 'on screen' character deaths in this fic, although any person not listed in the tags above is assumed to be a zombie or missing. Spoiling it slightly, but any character listed in the tags above isn't going to die.
There also isn't a lot of horror in this because it's not really about Zombies, it's about finding love and family at the end of the world :-P)
A much-needed zombie au.
I Can Give It All To You, Baby by succor_punch, E, 10873 words
Daniel finds the photos. *** Whatever pervert directed this photoshoot knew what they were doing. The next pose has Johnny leaning back against a rock wall with his leg half-hitched up and he looks every inch like a prime, sex-on-a-stick alpha male. White baggy trousers that offset his tanned chest, which is... shiny. Did they fucking rub him down with oil?
It's good and also now a series.
We have been down together in my sleep by trinityofone, E, 4226 words
Listen, it wasn’t Johnny’s fault that he never realized how much he’d love getting fucked.
Lovingly what it says in the description.
Fellas, is it gay... by momma_66, T, 1933 words
To goad your karate rivial into asking you to prom and then both of your egos are too big to back out? Is it gay, fellas?
A fun take on rival daring each other to go to prom together and finding the pics +30 years later
Paler than Grass by the_sound_of_inevitability, E, 4047 words
It’s just the two of them. He told himself he didn’t need an entourage to hand over the damn form, that he was going to keep his cool.
His cool lasted all of two seconds under LaRusso’s gaze.
But then, it never lasts. Whenever he sees LaRusso it’s like an electric charge.
Inspired by the deleted scene of Daniel asking Johnny why he likes intimidation. Canon compliant... until it isn't.
What if Johnny bullying Daniel was a thing they got off to?
Tit For Tat by t_time, E, 2487 words
“I can fix the car for you, at no cost. All I need in return is a little favor.”
Johnny tensed. “What kind of favor?” He asked slowly, not sure he wanted to know.
Daniel leans forward now, smile sliding off his face. “Suck my dick, Johnny.”
--
In which Johnny is as broke as his car is, and Daniel wants his dick sucked. Written for a Kink Meme prompt.
A bit of a darker Daniel here.
When the Fires Burn Low by petofi, T, 7113 words
A couple years after high school ends, Johnny is lonely and touch-starved. He goes to a beach party where, deep into the night, people will start putting on a blindfold and undressing while other people touch them.
One night Johnny puts on a blindfold, not knowing that a certain karate rival is watching from the other side of the bonfire.
Poor touch-starved Johnny and a kind Daniel.
Snake pit by dedlit, E, 49098 words
Sets after season 2.
1st Arc: Daniel strikes a deal with Kreese and starts loosing control over himself...
2nd Arc: Johnny is back in town, Daniel's downward spiral continues...
3rd Arc: Daniel and Johnny recover, heal and slowly something new can start...
A much darker fic, so well written, poor Daniel, but it does work out
little larusso is a cobra by narcissablaxk, T, 3844 words
When Anthony asks Johnny to teach him some karate to take care of a bully, Johnny agrees, even if it means keeping it a secret from Daniel. That is, until he finds out who the bully is.
It's good and fun.
Bonus:
Functional Flexibility by LMT, M, 23692 words
“How about you, LaRusso?” Johnny says. “What’s *your* secret weapon? Your crane kick of sex?” Knowing that the conversation will go nowhere good, Daniel just tells him that he will never, ever find out. Even if he buys shots all night. ************************** ((After Daniel and Johnny discuss some newfangled ideas about sexuality, which were definitely not in vogue when they were kids, things get weird.))
It's not Lawrusso, but it is a fascinating look at their relationship and both Johnny and Daniel as characters.
#anonymous#asks#fic rec list#so many good fics so little time#i tried to give you a bit of variety#lawrusso#if you're looking for more specific genres let me know#also i am still trying to work out how to format these rec things#i also cannot explain why i like things beyond 'it good'#may you find something you like#you adorable human you#there a lot (a lot) more good fics out there but try these?

2021 Fanfic Year in Review
Total Completed Works: 7 Total (Published) Word Count: 5,468 Fandoms I've Written In: Harry Potter Looking Back, Did You Write More Fic Than You Thought You Would This Year, Less, Or About What You Expected?: Like @mintamintathings, I had no expectations, so every fic has been a bonus. 2021 was my first year writing in and with a community, and it has been magical Did You Take Any Writing Risks This Year?: Signing up for Wireless days before the submission date was a trip! Not sure I wanna do that again. During finals, too! Do You Have Any Fanfic Goals For The New Year? I'd like to revisit Your House (Wireless) to fill in some missing scenes and fix the flow of the story. The ending feels a bit choppy to me. I had planned on doing Wireless again this year, but I missed the claiming deadlines :p So I hopped on over to LCD instead. I think one fest a year is more than enough for the time-being. It Hurts To Become is an 8th year/Hogwarts rebuild fic going that I lost steam on that I'd love to make more progress on this year. Most Popular Story Of The Year: How is popularity typically measured? In both kudos and hits, Your House is the clear winner. In terms of comments, Harry Potter: The Boy In Heels overtakes Your House by one. Story Of Mine Most Under-Appreciated By The Universe, In My Opinion: I love them all, but I'm particularly fond of White Moves First. I did altogether more research than was strictly necessary for such a short fic, and although it was a gift for @crazybutgood, it also brought my dad and I closer together. We hadn't played chess together in years, and after the pandemic had forced us to spend our first Christmas apart, it was all the more special that we had online chess to connect us--and this time, I had some new strategies up my sleeve! Most Fun Story To Write: Ouf, this one is a true toss-up between You Stole Fizzy Lifting Drinks, So You Get NOTHING! and Because You Made It. FYSFLDSYGN (what an eyefull o.o) was written super last minute for the discord drabble challenge, and was the first time I'd written anything with featuring next gen characters (it was actually a lot of fun to write). BYMI took a story from the early days of my parents' marriage--when my mum mixed up her spices and baked my dad an apple pie he would never forget--and made it drarry. Most Unintentionally Telling Story: I really couldn't say? I'm not entirely sure what this is asking. Biggest Disappointment: Feeling like I hadn't done my best work for Wireless is a big one, as was getting very into the planning stages of IHTB only to lose steam on it when it actually came time to write. Biggest Surprise: I actually have good ideas?! Whodathunk! I should really give myself more credit 🎺 Thanks so much for the tag, @mintamintathings! Since I'm probably pretty late to reply to this (I had forgotten tumblr was a thing for a while there), and I'm too lazy to check who all else has been tagged, I will keep it small. @crazybutgood I'd love to read about what you've gotten up to this past year! 🤗

Not gonna lie, I'm not that excited for choices books for a long time now - with some exceptions. And it's mostly because of the oversexualised "stories" they're creating.
When we had that choices insider last year and they asked us what our primary genre choice was, I chose "romance" not because I want to read horny people 24/7 but because I love the explicit inclusion of romance in a fleshed out story - preferably a slowburn.
A romance that's not just bonus material and - because I only play wlw - has actual screen time.
I have a lot of issues with some of the execution of concepts. Besides the already mentioned one:
"choose your gender" books should be the default but a lot of the romance scenes are clearly portrayed as one of the characters being written as male. That doesn't only happen very often but also very explicit with literal wrong pronouns. It does however happen in "default woman" books too, if the LI is gender bendable. - so I'm not critical towards choose your gender books as a concept, but fear of the outcome. Also there are times where you can literally predict what the characters are doing next. All I'm saying is "earlobe" but that's beside the point
the characterisation of the MCs seems so... one sided. I haven't ever played with a male mc so I don't know about them and don't usually buy outfits, if they don't include a viable storyelement - but my god.. most of the time the MC is this typical girly girl with girly outfits and don't you dare wear something more tone down or "masculine" to a fancy party. I get that this is due to the optional diamond outfit but there needs to be more diversity.
SPEAKING OF. Not only is the gender stereotyping a problem but the body frames too. I've seen a post about the female MCs shape being weird and YES SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK.
then the outfits again- please. I usually choose a random MC frame and I've been noticing that a lot of the outfits/ hairs look straight up weird on MCs of colour. I mean everyone has their own tastes and you do you but look me in the eyes and tell me PB doesn't just take the white-blonde version to create the outfits and throws it onto every frame.
--
Alright this all seems like my main problem is with the character creator (but I could honestly ramble about that in every game. It shows how big an issue this truly is) but the story element of it all is the MAIN main problem. I think we all know that.
It's alright to lay back after a day of work and enjoy smut and whatnot. But when it comes to true entertainment? I need some form of slowburn, pining and context to the story.
Just to tackle the "every new book is horny" situation.
