Yahweh and Asherah in the Hebrew Bible
Yahweh and Asherah in the Hebrew Bible
The Death of Jezebel, by Gustave Doré, 1866. From wikipedia.org The Hebrew Bible uniformly recognizes the unique deity of the Lord, the God of Israel who identifies himself to Moses as “I AM” transliterated as Yahweh. Only he is the God of the heavens and the earth, the creator of all things, the sole Lord of the heavenly hosts who sits on his throne ruling over the divine council. In contrast…

The Second Book of Chronicles in the Bible recounts the life of Jehoshaphat, King of Judah, and the Book says that this King followed the path of his ancestor David, the path of righteousness: "His heart was devoted to the ways of the LORD; furthermore, he removed the high places and the Asherah poles from Judah" 2 Chronicles 17:6. And as a spiritual text, the Bible teaches that men are neither completely good nor completely bad because righteousness and the fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion) are way. Although Jehoshaphat was a man with good intentions, that did not prevent him from making mistakes or sinning. The Bible always insists on one theme: men are naturally imperfect, and God in his wisdom always has his mercy ready for those who allow themselves to be forgiven. This is why Jehoshaphat, after having sinned by allying himself with an ungodly man like Ahaz, was warned by God through a prophet: "Jehu the seer, the son of Hanani, went out to meet him and said to the king, ´Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the LORD? Because of this, the wrath of the LORD is on you. Nevertheless, some good is found in you, for you destroyed the Asheroth out of the land, and have set your heart to seek God" 2 Chronicles 19:2-3. God was patient with Jehoshaphat's mistakes and finally blessed him for his righteousness and faithfulness to the law: "And the kingdom of Jehoshaphat was at peace, for his God had given him rest on every side" 2 Chronicles 20:30. The life of Jehoshaphat was a clear example of the importance of common sense and how this spiritual good is more important than any wealth and military power.

Asherah - Grande Deusa Mãe do Antigo Sudoeste Asiático.

It Keeps Going Around
MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK
=========================
+ Romans 8:31 - What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
=========================
VERSE OF THE DAY
========================
+Joshua 5:6 The Israelites had traveled in the wilderness for forty years until all the men who were old enough to fight in battle when they left Egypt had died. For they had disobeyed the LORD, and the LORD vowed he would not let them enter the land he had sworn to give us—a land flowing with milk and honey.
=========================
** SAY THIS BEFORE YOU READ; HERE’S SOME CHRISTIAN TRUTHS **
I AM NOT GOING IN A CIRCLE
I AM OBEYING
I AM COMPLETE
I AM POWERFUL
********************************
THOUGHTS:
=======================
It goes around and around ,time, years; it might be a different year, but it’s still the same motion. Right, if we aren’t careful with what we do, the world can cause us to be in the same rotation forever, so how do we get out of the world rotation? How do we get out of doing the same thing? How do we get out of being the same people? Well, the word of God tells us to yield ourselves to God to draw near to him, and he will draw near to us. When we don’t draw near to him, we will stay these same people with these same emotions and the same actions.
That’s precisely what the Israelites did; they stayed with being these same people doing the same thing that they were told not to do. They were totally disobedient to what God had told them to do. They were told multiple times to not to serve these idols and to leave these idols alone, but because they were so indulged into pleasing their flesh that they wouldn’t leave the idols alone, they chose the idols over God, so they kept going around and around.
How many of us are stagnant in our walk with Christ? How many of us are going around in circles because we won’t leave a particular sin alone? That’s basically what they did, they picked an idol over God, and the idol would be made of metal that can’t do anything for them , or save them. How long will we continue to allow our sins to keep us going in a circle? We must choose. Who will we serve?
Exodus 20:3 You shall have no other gods before me.
Deuteronomy 5:7 You shall have no other gods before me
Exodus 23:13 Pay attention to all that I have said to you, and make no mention of the names of other gods, nor let it be heard on your lips.
Idolatry was very popular then a lot of people would fall into this sin and during this day and society’s it’s perversion and some could say idolatry , what we have to understand is when we sin, we are allowing ourselves to submit to sin and to our flesh. We are hurting our relationship with God, which causes us to do what they did spiritually, which is go around in circles. There’s no growth in going around in circles, it’s no growth in committing to the same sin, the enemy knows exactly what our weaknesses are.
Jesus once said that the flesh this week, and without us crucifying our flesh, we won’t change at all; we remain the same people into the very moment we allow Christ to do what he did on the cross with our flesh, we will remain going circles.
“Judges 3:7 And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the LORD. They forgot the LORD their God and served the Baals and the Asheroth.”
Losing sight of God is what happens because our eyes are so fixated on what we desire, but when we are women and men of God, we must be fixated on God's will and pleasing him in order to step out of the circle we must follow his will and get into reading our word, meditating, praying and most of all prayer. We must take a stand and push forward because if you really think about it when we stay in one place for so long the fire we have for God and the growth, the things we learn dies and that’s what happens when we let the enemy in everything dies !
***Today the Holy Spirit wants us to grow and the more we grow the stronger we become ,we often times look at growing as a painful thing but grow in is only painful when we refuse to obey , it’s only painful when we have emotional and physical attachments to things we shouldn’t , growing is hard when we don’t want to let go of the bad habits we have created . We will have days that we get tired of climbing the moutains that we are facing we will have days where we just wanna be left alone and sit in our ways but as we let go of this idea that we are fine the way we are we will learn to allow the Holy Spirit to change us and hear the voice of the lord . ©Seer~ Prophetess Lee
========================
PRAYER
========================
Heavenly Father we thank you for today , we thank you for life health and strength we ask you to help us to obey you . Help us not to go around in circles with you , help us to walk in the light of you, lord change us and mold us to what you want of us ! We want to be directed by you ! We don’t want to lose sight of you and what you do with us ! Lord we need to grow more in you and father we are ready for whatever path you place us on please give us strength in Jesus Mighty Name Amen

And where ever all the ideas were coming from is scrambled egg.
Planning to do some rearranging of the objects today. Put the craft containers here so the DVD storage bags can go there. The ones with the husbands, Jeffie stuff, and goff music need to stay on the tip top but otherwise there's no order to anything right now.
Looked at the outsides of both places we're considering moving to. One is getting landscaping, the other has windows. The one with the landscaping we'll see soon, unless that gets pushed back, and if the rental assistance doesn't want to play then it'll be closer to October before we see the other one.
The thing with the October one is it's bigger, cheaper, and utilities included. Both have appliances included. So if we can just suffer well a bit longer we might get a better place.
However our situation is we would just like to be out of here ASAP. You just can't be the only people in the zip code without an addict and fit in around here.
Thank you for this blessing of a home without any of the toxic mess coming with us. Aside from the fact we wouldn't be here, I would have been gone when the boon kicked in. Had a talk about that scenario yesterday.
Seriously, don't tell any friends or family or coworkers if you win $5 off a scratcher. And if you must see a lawyer first. Not a dime to ___ nor to be used for their care is an important clause.
I swear, the first found family member to literally hear and listen to me and actually read my stories and give me proper feedback will inherit it all.
If any of my long term listeners are in to Fashion Star Fillies let me know. It'll be after the move, maybe next year before I can find them all, or next week, but I just found three more at a junk store. I'm not dealing with any other horses, except like the g1 MLPs I still have to get rid of, but those are those.
The last house was decorated in post modern horse, come this place most of it went, I just want like my Breyers I had a relationship with. Know what I mean.
Trying to pull together a few scattered plot bunnies for a Good Omens nanny Asheroth and Brother Francis thing. 'Oh, Miss Asheroth, how embarrassing we find ourselves in this situation!'

When Confidence Is Required
Today's inspiration comes from:
Fearless Women of the Bible
by Lynn Cowell
PRAYER:
"Lord, as we begin this new week, give us fresh eyes. Through the life of Deborah and her calling, empower us to see our own calling and to confidently take Your hand and follow. In Jesus’ name," Amen.
MEMORY VERSE:
‘So may all your enemies perish, Lord! But may all who love you be like the sun when it rises in its strength.’ Then the land had peace forty years. — Judges 5:31
Please read Deborah’s story in Judges 4.
"'Judges 4:1 begins by setting the backdrop, “Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord.” Cold toward God, the Israelites “again” chose their way against God’s.
This is not the first time the Bible records such a description of God’s people. Earlier in this same book, Judges 3:7 (ESV) tells us, “And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. They forgot the Lord their God and served the Baals and the Asheroth.”
So like us, the Israelites were easily distracted. Their cravings cried out for a physical god they could touch, see, and smell. They wanted what the other countries had: a god they could carry into war. Yet no matter how hard they sprinted from Jehovah, they never found what they were looking for in the other direction. Every time they ran, their cravings only created more captivity.
In this oppressing climate, we are introduced to Deborah. The judge most committed to honoring God and following His ways explicitly, her obedience prepared her for the unique work God had gifted her for.
First Corinthians 12:18 tells us,
But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as He wanted them to be.
God reassures us that He knew exactly what He was doing when He created us, giving each of us the particular gifts He has chosen for us to fulfill His purpose.
Knowing our spiritual gift(s) is an important block in building our confidence. Knowing and then using our spiritual gifts reassures us of our purpose and place in God’s plan.
Have you come to recognize the spiritual gifts God has given you? If so, what are they?
To know that we belong, that we have a place, is a universal craving. When we know and begin using our spiritual gifts for “the common good,” as Paul calls it, we increase our understanding that we belong. The body of Christ is the place God designed for each and every one of us to have a place where that longing to contribute can be fulfilled. When we know, deep in the places that no one sees, that we belong and have a purpose, we can say no to the urge to compare. Because when I know what God has called me to, I can more easily celebrate what God has called you to.
There is no reason for me to compare myself to you. We’re simply different, and our diversity is a beautiful thing! Comparison is a one-way road to resentment.
Yes, some spiritual gifts get more applause than others. We can do our part, though, to safeguard the church from lifting up other brothers and sisters to a place God never intended them to be elevated. We must not confuse gifts on the forefront for gifts that are foremost. One gift is not more important than another. I learned this on Sunday mornings at 5:30 a.m.
As the rooster crowed, Greg and I would climb out of our car and make our way to the high school every other Sunday morning. (What a rooster was doing crowing in the middle of a major metropolitan city, I have no idea, but that’s another thing entirely.) The rooster’s noisy welcome always reminded me that Greg and I were up working before most people were considering moving.
The big box trucks already in place were evidence that another team had begun serving even before we did. It was time for us to turn the public school into a sanctuary. Being a part of a “portable church,” our congregation rented a local high school each week to meet. Our team, the set-up crew, did everything we could to try to change the atmosphere from academic to worshipful each week. Hanging drapes, setting up chairs, and transforming classrooms into children’s church rooms were all part of our volunteer description.
Most mornings, I was happy to be serving with my man. This type of physical work was a welcome change from the type of roles we each played during the week.
Other mornings, when my alarm went off at 4:45 a.m., my thoughts were not that positive. Sundays are for rest, so why am I not resting? And still other times it wasn’t my alarm tempting me to take my thoughts in the wrong direction. Hearing an invitation to a leaders’ meeting we were not a part of, or others receiving visible recognition, would try to root discontentment or jealousy in my mind. Greg and I have so many other talents and gifts that our church doesn’t know about. We’re serving when others are sleeping. It’s like we’re invisible.
I knew my thoughts didn’t come from a good place. For sure it wasn’t the Holy Spirit telling me I needed to be seen! Those on my team had no idea that right there in that high school cafeteria, the enemy and I were having a knock-down brawl most weeks as I fought not to allow these thoughts any space in my mind and heart. I couldn’t stay caught in comparison because I knew if I did I would keep right on going all the way to resentment.
Comparison is a one-way road to resentment.
I knew in my head that the service Greg and I provided at church was not less important just because it was less visible. Paul’s words make this clear: “The parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable” (1 Corinthians 12:22 ESV). He lets us know that comparison and competition have no place in the church. But we know that the battle against comparison is real!
Two of my gifts are serving and teaching. Your gifts are probably different than mine. While I might have the gift of teaching, you’re probably way better at hospitality, praying, or leading worship. The difference is how we see the gifts we do have rather than what we don’t have. Jesus gives us these gifts, and we have each been given gifts simply because we belong to Jesus. “But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as He chose” (1 Corinthians 12:18 ESV).
We need to see the gifts God has given us as our assets rather than allowing comparison to call out our deficits.
Have you also struggled with comparison and/or competition? What might this struggle say about where our confidence lays?"'

Verse: judges 3 Write/ Copy Gods words :
3 (A)Now these are the nations that the Lord left, to test Israel by them, that is, all in Israel who had not experienced all the wars in Canaan. 2 It was only in order that the generations of the people of Israel might know war, to teach war to those who had not known it before. 3 These are the nations: (B)the five lords of the Philistines and all the Canaanites and the Sidonians and the Hivites who lived on Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal-hermon as far as Lebo-hamath. 4 They were for (C)the testing of Israel, to know whether Israel would obey the commandments of the Lord, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses. 5 So the people of Israel lived (D)among the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. 6 (E)And their daughters they took to themselves for wives, and their own daughters they gave to their sons, and they served their gods. Othniel 7 (F)And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. They forgot the Lord their God and served the Baals and (G)the Asheroth. 8 Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, (H)and he sold them into the hand of (I)Cushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia. And the people of Israel served Cushan-rishathaim eight years. 9 But when the people of Israel (J)cried out to the Lord, the Lord raised up a (K)deliverer for the people of Israel, who saved them, (L)Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother. 10 (M)The Spirit of the Lord was upon him, and he judged Israel. He went out to war, and the Lord gave Cushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand. And his hand prevailed over Cushan-rishathaim. 11 (N)So the land had rest forty years. Then Othniel the son of Kenaz died. Ehud 12 (O)And the people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and the Lord strengthened Eglon (P)the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done what was evil in the sight of the Lord. 13 He gathered to himself the Ammonites and the (Q)Amalekites, and went and defeated Israel. And they took possession of (R)the city of palms. 14 And the people of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years. 15 Then the people of Israel (S)cried out to the Lord, and the Lord raised up for them (T)a deliverer, Ehud, the son of Gera, the Benjaminite, (U)a left-handed man. The people of Israel sent tribute by him to Eglon the king of Moab. 16 And Ehud made for himself a sword with two edges, a cubit[a] in length, and he bound it on his right thigh under his clothes. 17 And he presented the tribute to Eglon king of Moab. Now Eglon was a very fat man. 18 And when Ehud had finished presenting the tribute, he sent away the people who carried the tribute. 19 But he himself turned back (V)at the idols near Gilgal and said, “I have a secret message for you, O king.” And he commanded, “Silence.” And all his attendants went out from his presence. 20 And Ehud came to him as he was sitting alone in his (W)cool roof chamber. (X)And Ehud said, “I have a message from God for you.” And he arose from his seat. 21 And Ehud reached with his left hand, took the sword from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly. 22 And the hilt also went in after the blade, and the fat closed over the blade, for he did not pull the sword out of his belly; and the dung came out. 23 Then Ehud went out into the porch[b] and closed the doors of the roof chamber behind him (Y)and locked them. 24 When he had gone, the servants came, and when they saw that the doors of the roof chamber were locked, they thought, (Z)“Surely he is relieving himself in the closet of the cool chamber.” 25 And they waited till they were embarrassed. But when he still did not open the doors of the roof chamber, they took the key and opened them, and there lay their lord dead on the floor. 26 Ehud escaped while they delayed, and he passed beyond (AA)the idols and escaped to Seirah. 27 When he arrived, (AB)he sounded the trumpet in (AC)the hill country of Ephraim. Then the people of Israel went down with him from the hill country, and he was their leader. 28 And he said to them, “Follow after me, (AD)for the Lord has given your enemies the Moabites into your hand.” So they went down after him and seized (AE)the fords of the Jordan against the Moabites and did not allow anyone to pass over. 29 And they killed at that time about 10,000 of the Moabites, all strong, able-bodied men; not a man escaped. 30 So Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. (AF)And the land had rest for eighty years. Shamgar 31 After him was (AG)Shamgar the son of Anath, who killed 600 of the Philistines (AH)with an oxgoad, and he also (AI)saved Israel.
What is your Favorite verse(s):
Explain in your own words what you just read:
God left these Canaanite nations behind because Israel was not faithful in driving them out. One might rightly say that it was a combination of both their choice and God’s will.
Commitment / what will i do : I will would remain because God wanted to prove the faithfulness of Israel to Himself, and to improve their reliance on Him.

hear me out, good omens but they are cats.
I was playing with the idea of Francis and Ashteroth being cats. And whilsts watching a Rainflower map I had an idea.
Asheroth is a warrior from shadowclan whilst Francis(Petalstep?? I can’t think of names atm) would be a windclan medicine cat. Like Crookedstar(Jaw) he would have an accident which would disfigure his jaw, which lead him to becoming a medicine cat.
He often catches sticks and nicknacks in his pelt. Mainly dandelions and sticks.
Ashteroth(Viperfang?) is a intimidating warrior, a strict deputy and cleaver.
In her youth she had trained in the dark forest, learning and making a name for herself though she rarely visits as she gets older.
They meet in their youth, before Petalsteps accident, when he was a warrior, by the border dispute Vaperfang’s presence, Petalstep was still friendly, reming on his side whilst talking to the other.
They two became good friends over the years.
One day the pair get a vision and they set to make sure they pair featured within were ready.
Once they were the duo finally left the clans. finding a place to go be dweebs together.

929 chapter link: http://www.929.org.il/lang/en/page/214
Mechon Mamre link: https://www.mechon-mamre.org/e/et/et0703.htm
1 Now these are the nations which the LORD left, to prove Israel by them, even as many as had not known all the wars of Canaan; 2 only that the generations of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at the least such as beforetime knew nothing thereof; 3 namely, the five lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Zidonians, and the Hivites that dwelt in mount Lebanon, from mount Baal-hermon unto the entrance of Hamath. 4 And they were there, to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken unto the commandments of the LORD, which He commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses. 5 And the children of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites; 6 and they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their own daughters to their sons, and served their gods. {P}
7 And the children of Israel did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, and forgot the LORD their God, and served the Baalim and the Asheroth. 8 Therefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and He gave them over into the hand of Cushan-rishathaim king of Aram-naharaim; and the children of Israel served Cushan-rishathaim eight years. 9 And when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised up a saviour to the children of Israel, who saved them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother. 10 And the spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel; and he went out to war, and the LORD delivered Cushan-rishathaim king of Aram into his hand; and his hand prevailed against Cushan-rishathaim. 11 And the land had rest forty years. And Othniel the son of Kenaz died. {P}
12 And the children of Israel again did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done that which was evil in the sight of the LORD. 13 And he gathered unto him the children of Ammon and Amalek; and he went and smote Israel, and they possessed the city of palm-trees. 14 And the children of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years. 15 But when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised them up a saviour, Ehud the son of Gera, the Benjamite, a man left-handed; and the children of Israel sent a present by him unto Eglon the king of Moab. 16 And Ehud made him a sword which had two edges, of a cubit length; and he girded it under his raiment upon his right thigh. 17 And he offered the present unto Eglon king of Moab--now Eglon was a very fat man. 18 And when he had made an end of offering the present, he sent away the people that bore the present. 19 But he himself turned back from the quarries that were by Gilgal, and said: 'I have a secret errand unto thee, O king.' And he said: 'Keep silence.' And all that stood by him went out from him. 20 And Ehud came unto him; and he was sitting by himself alone in his cool upper chamber. And Ehud said: 'I have a message from God unto thee.' And he arose out of his seat. 21 And Ehud put forth his left hand, and took the sword from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly. 22 And the haft also went in after the blade; and the fat closed upon the blade, for he drew not the sword out of his belly; and it came out behind. 23 Then Ehud went forth into the porch, and shut the doors of the upper chamber upon him, and locked them. 24 Now when he was gone out, his servants came; and they saw, and, behold, the doors of the upper chamber were locked; and they said: 'Surely he is covering his feet in the cabinet of the cool chamber.' 25 And they tarried till they were ashamed; and, behold, he opened not the doors of the upper chamber; therefore they took the key, and opened them; and, behold, their lord was fallen down dead on the earth. 26 And Ehud escaped while they lingered, having passed beyond the quarries, and escaped unto Seirah. 27 And it came to pass, when he was come, that he blew a horn in the hill-country of Ephraim, and the children of Israel went down with him from the hill-country, and he before them. 28 And he said unto them: 'Follow after me; for the LORD hath delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand.' And they went down after him, and took the fords of the Jordan against the Moabites, and suffered not a man to pass over. 29 And they smote of Moab at that time about ten thousand men, every lusty man, and every man of valour; and there escaped not a man. 30 So Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. And the land had rest fourscore years. {P}
31 And after him was Shamgar the son of Anath, who smote of the Philistines six hundred men with an ox-goad; and he also saved Israel. {P}

It looks like a proper sort of story between nanny Asheroth and Brother Francis could be brewing. All the little plot bunnies hopping around might merge themselves in to a larger one. Working with the idea that Warlock pushes nanny in to the pond, Brother Francis goes in to save her, plot complications that observers might take as improper ensue. I'd like to have other situations, like locking the pair in the pantry or something, for Warlock to get in to because media has told him two single people alone in a situation fall in love and if nanny gets married and has children of her own she won't be around to watch him all the time.
And for Doctor timey wimey stuff Time Crash came before The Doctor's Daughter.
We heard you like Doctor's daughters so we put the Doctor's daughter in the doctor's daughter who's the Doctor's daughter.
something something That girl on the internet wanting accommodations for time blindness when she doesn't have the meaning quite right something something kids with their made up disorders something something I'm on the spectrum and have a brain injury but make it a point to be on time something something you might be describing temporal lobe seizures and should get that checked out.
Seriously, if you are not taking narcotics or hallucinogenics or having a reaction to Benadryl but you're experiencing something that makes you feel like a TARDIS in hyperspace or think the Doctor is touching your brain with a sonic screwdriver you might be having a temporal lobe seizure.
Once I saw an agnostic description of a temporal lobe seizure, really with I could find that miniseries on what scientifically causes near death experiences, I knew that was what I was having. It's a real thing, it's usually not debilitating, and it's not something a twelve year old on the internet made a pride flag for because they want to feel special.

Might get out early today and do laundry. Soon enough I will live somewhere with my own laundry machine. We see one perspective place next week, unless that gets pushed back or something else causes us not to live there, but if we can hold on to October the bigger, cheaper, utilities included place will be ready. That's only a couple of blocks and across a main street to the grocery store as opposed to being right behind it.
We have agreed both so far are fine and its which ever one we can get in to, which will probably be a one bedroom but somehow bigger than our current two bedroom, on the ground floor because of mobility issues, and when the inevitable comes the dolls and I wouldn't have to move unless we wanted to.
The one tho has the same layout for the 1 and 2 bedrooms they just add an interior wall and a door. We would be adding some form of Ikea graham cracker bookshelves and a curtain for the same effect.
Paper thin walls noise dampening life hack- bookshelves make good noise dampeners. Those last few weeks at the old house with the Life Ruiner were extra miserable because all my stuff was in storage and her voice bounced off the walls.

2 Chronicles 19–20 (Listen)
Jehoshaphat’s Reforms
19 Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned in safety to his house in Jerusalem. 2 But Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him and said to King Jehoshaphat, “Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the LORD? Because of this, wrath has gone out against you from the LORD. 3 Nevertheless, some good is found in you, for you destroyed the Asheroth out of the land, and have set your heart to seek God.”
4 Jehoshaphat lived at Jerusalem. And he went out again among the people, from Beersheba to the hill country of Ephraim, and brought them back to the LORD, the God of their fathers. 5 He appointed judges in the land in all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city, 6 and said to the judges, “Consider what you do, for you judge not for man but for the LORD. He is with you in giving judgment. 7 Now then, let the fear of the LORD be upon you. Be careful what you do, for there is no injustice with the LORD our God, or partiality or taking bribes.”
8 Moreover, in Jerusalem Jehoshaphat appointed certain Levites and priests and heads of families of Israel, to give judgment for the LORD and to decide disputed cases. They had their seat at Jerusalem. 9 And he charged them: “Thus you shall do in the fear of the LORD, in faithfulness, and with your whole heart: 10 whenever a case comes to you from your brothers who live in their cities, concerning bloodshed, law or commandment, statutes or rules, then you shall warn them, that they may not incur guilt before the LORD and wrath may not come upon you and your brothers. Thus you shall do, and you will not incur guilt. 11 And behold, Amariah the chief priest is over you in all matters of the LORD; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the governor of the house of Judah, in all the king’s matters, and the Levites will serve you as officers. Deal courageously, and may the LORD be with the upright!”Hebrew the good‘>1
Jehoshaphat’s Prayer
20 After this the Moabites and Ammonites, and with them some of the Meunites,Compare 26:7; Hebrew Ammonites‘>2 came against Jehoshaphat for battle. 2 Some men came and told Jehoshaphat, “A great multitude is coming against you from Edom,One Hebrew manuscript; most Hebrew manuscripts Aram (Syria)’>3 from beyond the sea; and, behold, they are in Hazazon-tamar” (that is, Engedi). 3 Then Jehoshaphat was afraid and set his face to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. 4 And Judah assembled to seek help from the LORD; from all the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD.
5 And Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court, 6 and said, “O LORD, God of our fathers, are you not God in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. In your hand are power and might, so that none is able to withstand you. 7 Did you not, our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham your friend? 8 And they have lived in it and have built for you in it a sanctuary for your name, saying, 9 ‘If disaster comes upon us, the sword, judgment,Or the sword of judgment‘>4 or pestilence, or famine, we will stand before this house and before you—for your name is in this house—and cry out to you in our affliction, and you will hear and save.’ 10 And now behold, the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir, whom you would not let Israel invade when they came from the land of Egypt, and whom they avoided and did not destroy—11 behold, they reward us by coming to drive us out of your possession, which you have given us to inherit. 12 O our God, will you not execute judgment on them? For we are powerless against this great horde that is coming against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”
13 Meanwhile all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children. 14 And the Spirit of the LORD cameOr was‘>5 upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, son of Benaiah, son of Jeiel, son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, in the midst of the assembly. 15 And he said, “Listen, all Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem and King Jehoshaphat: Thus says the LORD to you, ‘Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed at this great horde, for the battle is not yours but God’s. 16 Tomorrow go down against them. Behold, they will come up by the ascent of Ziz. You will find them at the end of the valley, east of the wilderness of Jeruel. 17 You will not need to fight in this battle. Stand firm, hold your position, and see the salvation of the LORD on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem.’ Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed. Tomorrow go out against them, and the LORD will be with you.”
18 Then Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell down before the LORD, worshiping the LORD. 19 And the Levites, of the Kohathites and the Korahites, stood up to praise the LORD, the God of Israel, with a very loud voice.
20 And they rose early in the morning and went out into the wilderness of Tekoa. And when they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem! Believe in the LORD your God, and you will be established; believe his prophets, and you will succeed.” 21 And when he had taken counsel with the people, he appointed those who were to sing to the LORD and praise him in holy attire, as they went before the army, and say,
  “Give thanks to the LORD,     for his steadfast love endures forever.”
22 And when they began to sing and praise, the LORD set an ambush against the men of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah, so that they were routed. 23 For the men of Ammon and Moab rose against the inhabitants of Mount Seir, devoting them to destruction, and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, they all helped to destroy one another.
The Lord Delivers Judah
24 When Judah came to the watchtower of the wilderness, they looked toward the horde, and behold, thereHebrew they‘>6 were dead bodies lying on the ground; none had escaped. 25 When Jehoshaphat and his people came to take their spoil, they found among them, in great numbers, goods, clothing, and precious things, which they took for themselves until they could carry no more. They were three days in taking the spoil, it was so much. 26 On the fourth day they assembled in the Valley of Beracah,Beracah means blessing‘>7 for there they blessed the LORD. Therefore the name of that place has been called the Valley of Beracah to this day. 27 Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat at their head, returning to Jerusalem with joy, for the LORD had made them rejoice over their enemies. 28 They came to Jerusalem with harps and lyres and trumpets, to the house of the LORD. 29 And the fear of God came on all the kingdoms of the countries when they heard that the LORD had fought against the enemies of Israel. 30 So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet, for his God gave him rest all around.
31 Thus Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah. He was thirty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi. 32 He walked in the way of Asa his father and did not turn aside from it, doing what was right in the sight of the LORD. 33 The high places, however, were not taken away; the people had not yet set their hearts upon the God of their fathers.
34 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, from first to last, are written in the chronicles of Jehu the son of Hanani, which are recorded in the Book of the Kings of Israel.
The End of Jehoshaphat’s Reign
35 After this Jehoshaphat king of Judah joined with Ahaziah king of Israel, who acted wickedly. 36 He joined him in building ships to go to Tarshish, and they built the ships in Ezion-geber. 37 Then Eliezer the son of Dodavahu of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, “Because you have joined with Ahaziah, the LORD will destroy what you have made.” And the ships were wrecked and were not able to go to Tarshish.

2 Corinthians 12:14–13:14
2 Corinthians 12:14–13:14 (Listen)
14 Here for the third time I am ready to come to you. And I will not be a burden, for I seek not what is yours but you. For children are not obligated to save up for their parents, but parents for their children. 15 I will most gladly spend and be spent for your souls. If I love you more, am I to be loved less? 16 But granting that I myself did not burden you, I was crafty, you say, and got the better of you by deceit. 17 Did I take advantage of you through any of those whom I sent to you? 18 I urged Titus to go, and sent the brother with him. Did Titus take advantage of you? Did we not act in the same spirit? Did we not take the same steps?
19 Have you been thinking all along that we have been defending ourselves to you? It is in the sight of God that we have been speaking in Christ, and all for your upbuilding, beloved. 20 For I fear that perhaps when I come I may find you not as I wish, and that you may find me not as you wish—that perhaps there may be quarreling, jealousy, anger, hostility, slander, gossip, conceit, and disorder. 21 I fear that when I come again my God may humble me before you, and I may have to mourn over many of those who sinned earlier and have not repented of the impurity, sexual immorality, and sensuality that they have practiced.
Final Warnings
13 This is the third time I am coming to you. Every charge must be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. 2 I warned those who sinned before and all the others, and I warn them now while absent, as I did when present on my second visit, that if I come again I will not spare them—3 since you seek proof that Christ is speaking in me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but is powerful among you. 4 For he was crucified in weakness, but lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but in dealing with you we will live with him by the power of God.
5 Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test! 6 I hope you will find out that we have not failed the test. 7 But we pray to God that you may not do wrong—not that we may appear to have met the test, but that you may do what is right, though we may seem to have failed. 8 For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth. 9 For we are glad when we are weak and you are strong. Your restoration is what we pray for. 10 For this reason I write these things while I am away from you, that when I come I may not have to be severe in my use of the authority that the Lord has given me for building up and not for tearing down.
Final Greetings
11 Finally, brothers,Or brothers and sisters‘>1 rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another,Or listen to my appeal‘>2 agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. 12 Greet one another with a holy kiss. 13 All the saints greet you.
14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

Why Have You Forsaken Me?
To the choirmaster: according to The Doe of the Dawn. A Psalm of David.
22   My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?     Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning? 2   O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer,     and by night, but I find no rest.
3   Yet you are holy,     enthroned on the praisesOr dwelling in the praises‘>1 of Israel. 4   In you our fathers trusted;     they trusted, and you delivered them. 5   To you they cried and were rescued;     in you they trusted and were not put to shame.
6   But I am a worm and not a man,     scorned by mankind and despised by the people. 7   All who see me mock me;     they make mouths at me; they wag their heads; 8   “He trusts in the LORD; let him deliver him;     let him rescue him, for he delights in him!”
9   Yet you are he who took me from the womb;     you made me trust you at my mother’s breasts. 10   On you was I cast from my birth,     and from my mother’s womb you have been my God. 11   Be not far from me,     for trouble is near,     and there is none to help.
12   Many bulls encompass me;     strong bulls of Bashan surround me; 13   they open wide their mouths at me,     like a ravening and roaring lion.
14   I am poured out like water,     and all my bones are out of joint;   my heart is like wax;     it is melted within my breast; 15   my strength is dried up like a potsherd,     and my tongue sticks to my jaws;     you lay me in the dust of death.
16   For dogs encompass me;     a company of evildoers encircles me;   they have pierced my hands and feetSome Hebrew manuscripts, Septuagint, Vulgate, Syriac; most Hebrew manuscripts like a lion [they are at] my hands and feet‘>2— 17   I can count all my bones—   they stare and gloat over me; 18   they divide my garments among them,     and for my clothing they cast lots.

From @etymologydaily The motto of Ardua Hall in ‘The Testaments’ (2019) by Margaret Atwood, and presumably in the tv show, ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ is: ‘Ad ardua per estrus.’ A latin phrase that does not seem to mean a lot. ‘Towards the difficulty [of childbirth] through oestrogen’ is how Aunt Lydia translates this motto in ‘The Testaments.’ However, as a crypto-feminist who is trying to bring down Gilead from within, she suggests that ‘Estrus’ might be a cryptic nod to the female sex godess: ‘Isis,’ ‘Ostera,’ ‘Ashera,’ ‘Esther.’ Before Moses and Ezra turned Yahweh—with their concoction of the old Testament—the God of Judaism and Christianity into an eternal asexual bachelor, he used to have a wife called: ‘Asherah.’ There are still traces of Asherah in the Old Testament. The Asheroth, what the KJV calls: ‘groves’ were the shrines and temples to this goddess who had lately fallen out of favour. ‘oistros’ in Greek means: ‘gadfly’ and the term: ‘oestridae’ is still applied in Taxonomy to a family of parasitic fly. «ὁ οἶστρος » genitive singular: «τοῦ οἴστρου» 2nd-declension masculine noun. ‘ho oîstros’ genitive singular: ‘toû oístrou’ 2nd-declension masculine noun: ‘gadfly.’ The gadfly had a poisonous bite that would induce ‘frenzy’ or: ‘madness’ or: ‘swelling’ which seemingly is where our English medical term: ‘oestrogen’ is derived. #science #biology #novels #bible #judaism #christianity #education #classics #classicsforstem (at County Monaghan) https://www.instagram.com/p/CJ3JVA0nYCT/?igshid=1po0mqooaek8g
