I love seeing other people's takes on a genderbend hiccstrid but also is so weird because I've been stuck in the "fem hiccup" pit for years now, and I have very specific headcanons and ideas for her that when I see someone else's idea on it that is diferent than mine Im always like "No, that's not how it is, that's not canon" for like 2 seconds before I remember that none of this is canon so 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Character Meme: Astrid Hofferson (HTTYD), Asher Mir (Destiny 2), Solas (Dragon Age: Inquisition)

Astrid

How I feel about this character: I adore Astrid. I’m so happy that little kids, particularly girls, have her as a role model. I love her so much.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Hiccup forever.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: I think her with Heather is such a great friendship. And I like her sort of relationship with Valka in the final movie. I wish we’d seen more of it.

My unpopular opinion about this character: I think episodes around her in RTTE were awful. They usually were about her learning to appreciate the other riders rather than being about her. The episode where she lost her sight was good but all the others where she was given the lead were pretty crap.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I  wish they’d gone dark with her past and made her an orphan of the war against the dragons. I’ve long had a head canon(and my httyd stories all live in that head canon) that Astrid had a big family who were all dragon hunters but the war with the dragons by the point of the first movie had left her an orphan. That was her motivation for wanting to kill dragons so much in the first movie. Also because she’s adapted over years to her ever dwindling family so when she was faced with the reality of dragons she adapted. When she became a rider she adapted. And when the dragons left she adapted.

Asher Mir

How I feel about this character: I like him. He’s one of my favorite characters added with Destiny 2.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: I ship Asher/Science. Nothing else can bring him joy.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Asher/Ikora is an interesting power dynamic and friendship. She is more spiritual about the traveler and he’s hard facts but they still have respect and adoration for each other.

My unpopular opinion about this character: I think his face markings are bad. They should have chosen different markings.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I wish he would meet up with his fireteam again or they somehow played into the game’s story.

Solas

How I feel about this character: He’s a racist fucker. 

All the people I ship romantically with this character: No one, he’s a back stabbing ass.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Solas and Blackwall as the being vague about their past crew. Though with my elven Inquisitor he was a good friend, sometimes.

My unpopular opinion about this character: I think it depends on the crowd what’s unpopular. In come crowds my view of him would be unpopular. But in a general sense I think he looks dumb because he has no hair and no markings. Like he doesn’t even paint on fakes ones so he doesn’t look so out of place.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I hope that in the next game you get a chance to be the DA version of Shepard and show him the errors of his ways by uniting people who hate each other. I want him to see the error of his ways. I don’t want him to be a racist ass, I want him to be able to see that murdering everything isn’t the right thing to do.

Also, i love/hate how diferent they look to Hiccup on her reference sheet, even when i made them like... 3 months apart, but mostly bc I used Krita (where i'm making the actual comic) for Hiccup's and Photoshop for these, and my way of doing art changes slightly from program to program and depending on the kinf of brush i use

Basically the two had have a crush on eachother since they were young teens, so like on the first httyd movie events. None said anything. Asher was the one who tried to mave a move later on (aka. The kiss at the end of the movie, the kiss on Snoggletog, and the kiss on one of the riders of Berk/defenders of Berk episode, I don't remember whitch one) but Hiccup never did anything else but blush bc basically she just thought Asher was being cocky. He was not.

As time passed and they grew to be friends, their crushes got kinda forgoten until rtte events. Asher is the first one to relize his feelings, Hiccup is too oblivious to notice her own feelings. And Asher is now trapped in your typical "I don't want to say anything bc it would ruin our friendship" situation, except he does tries a few times pre-events of the fanfic. But Hiccup either gets distracted by a dragon or just Asher's words goes over her head and doesn't get is an actual confession.

For the games, Berkians are going to introduce Dragon Racing to the other tribes atending, and to a new-ish way to play it, where instead of 5 dragons it's 5 teams playing, so it's more riders on the sky, more dangerous, and also more fun. The gang were going to compete, and Asher had already made up his mind to tell Hiccup how he feels and ask her out after they win.

But this never happens, bc since her hand is being "offered" on the games, she is not allowed to play. And she tells her friends she is not going to participate in any game and gives no other explanation. Its not until Stoick anounces that her hand is being played for that they know why she had been acting strange the last few days.

And Asher enters in a panic. A few of other Hooligans apoint themselves for her hand, (from a group that's a few years older than them), they had already been told that the other tribes are bringing their own suitors and my boy Asher raises up to win her hand too. (that's pretty much how the fic starts)

But Hiccup is too mad with the whole situation to notice "huh, maybe those things he had said where we are alone had a deeper meanng to it" or "wait, he likes me?" and instead just thinks that every single person that is going to play for her hand is just an oportunist who wants an status bust. After all, she is the next chief of Berk, and whoever maries her, will get that title too.

And some of them are doind it just for the status it'll give them, but some other are acutally people who like her. But we are not talking about them.

With Asher, things are a little more complicated, and her anger goes stronger. Because he is her friend and how dares him doing this??? To her!!! He knewher feelings to an agranged maridge like this!! All the gang did! And now he's doing one of the things she spites the most!!!

Anyways Hiccup is pissed, Asher thinks he fucked up and she'll be mad with him for life.

Things happen and Hiccup, the other heirs of the tribes, the gang and the rest of the suitors are strandled alone on a broken ship, without dragons, on the Ship Graveyard. All courtesy of Viggo.

As they try to get out of there and have their dragons back, Hiccup finally gets to actually spend time with the suitors and to know them. She realices she was wrong about some of them, and even when the time was short, she got to know A LOT about them.

Then the adults show up, and they gater to make a better plan to get the dragons. Hiccup and Stoick have a talk alone, Hiccup tells him some of the boys aren't actually so bad and spends some time just talking about them, some good things some bad things then…

Hiccup rants about how in the last day he keept her focused on what was important, and supported her on her desitions, but didn't shy away to argue. But when everyone started to see who was in charge (since the other heirs of the other tribes were also there) he stood at her side with no hessitation, even when she was the younger of the heirs and with less training.

And with that is when realization finaly hits her. "It has to be Asher" she tells Stoick and he tries to calm her, bc now she is ranting on how good Asher could be for the "spot" but also bc she starts to realice Asher probably had feelings for her since before. And she gets very insistent on why it has to be him

I should had done this before beginning the comic. This is the reason why I hadn't make another page. Thought the first ones are just Hiccup, I want to have all characters references ready.

btw, a lot of people had told me he doesn’t look a lot like a male and had suggest me to change the hair style or make his body more masculine but 1) i like the hair? a lot of Vikings on httyd (and real life) use braids so I’m not changing that. 2) in my fanfic Asher is 14 while most of the other teens are 15, so I’m not putting a 14 yo boy super masculine, I’m going to draw him a bit different as he grows up but now he is staying like that.

Hiccup wakes up six years ago, thoroughly confused and more than a little nauseous at dragon raids still happening, her friends not being her friends, Asher ignoring her along with everyone else, her father not knowing what to do with her, and her leg still attached. Even though she loved her village, friends, Asher, and her father, it seemed almost cruel for the gods to make her go through it all over again.
