Wanted to get back into writing, so I’m pushing through writer drought. I wanted to explore the “origins” of how Angel got their pet name (well, main pet name)

I couldn’t get it to work with a scene between Angel and David though, so I tried a different path

Asher can’t believe how many times he’d seen David smile these past few months.

Snickering at his phone? Humming while he cooked? Chuckling at his jokes instead of his usual grunt and eye roll!? Who is this man?!

He knew it was because he was seeing someone, but David’s been out with people before, but there was something about this one that just, reignited something in him.

And for the first time since Gabe died, it felt like the David he’d known since they were kids, was back.

David sat across him, chuckling away at his screen, the subtle glint in his eye and smirk that tugged on his lips every time they texted back with another snarky quip.

"I know you said they’re human but your mate has got some kind of magic.”

David gave a hearty laugh, shaking his head at his ridiculousness. He glanced back at his phone, his eyes hovering over their mates name on the screen as a soft smile formed on his lips.

The beta smiled, happy for his best friend’s new found source of happiness.

“They really make you happy huh?”

The alpha nodded, leaning back against the couch,

“Yep.”

“Curious though, why Angel?”

He asked, tilting his head and looking an amused smirk.

“I dunno. Just felt right.”

He replied, a soft smile lingering on his lips as he stared at their mate’s name on his phone.

“This is it big guy! You’re getting married tomorrow! How’re ya feeling?”

He excitedly asked, taking a seat on one of the deck chairs, drinking as they took in the scenery of David’s backyard.

The alpha snickered, reaching forward to grab his drink and taking a sip, “Excited, Nervous, Terrified”

He replied, placing the glass back down as he leaned back against the chair, letting out a comfortable sigh.

“But I love them and I can’t wait.”

He said, smiling, something they’d gotten so used to seeing but still feels refreshing every time.

“You know,” He started, his finger tracing the rim of his glass. “I think I finally have an answer to your question about the Angel pet name.”

Asher’s eyes grew in surprise, he took a sip of his drink, giving him a nod to continue.

“I guess, I started calling them Angel because, in a way, they saved me.”

He continued, his expression falling into a soft smile as he reminisced about the past 4 years.

“They challenge me, get me out of my comfort zone in ways that I don’t know to this day.”

He chuckled, a smile lingering on his lips as he stared out into his backyard. Taking in the sight of the place he and his mate called ‘home’ the strings of lights thar gave the perfect ambience, the throw pillows on the lounge chairs they had crocheted, and the flowers that surrounded the place the two of them had planted, it made his heart swell.

“They carried me out of the darkness that came with losing dad and becoming alpha. They were my guiding light; my Angel.”

He said, turning to see his best friend weeping, moved by the sentiment behind the name.

Wiping off his face, he looked at his best friend with pride, through his puffy eyes.

“I’m very happy for you, bud”

His words genuine and full of love, he leaned forward wrapping his arms around the larger man.

“Thanks, Ash.”

HI HELLO UHHH well i feel like the order in which i listened (but slightly adjusted) was a good way to listen to everything- i'd say the first redacted 101 video about magic is very useful in explaining the basics so probably that first and then:

- freelancer season 1

- sadism's hold (ivan) you could listen at the same time as freelancer s1 bc it takes place at the same time

- freelancer season 2

- inversion

- freelancer season 3

- sovereign state (avior)

- project meridian ^^ with avior and project meridian you could switch their positions and listen either way

- hush

- carpe deus (vega)

- the balance ^^ again you could switch the positions of vega and the balance but just know they're both veryvery heavy lore wise so i'd recommend listening to last. i also recommend listening to hush and vega at the same time

these are just for the narrative/lore focused playlists ^^ as for the character playlists, you can listen in whichever order you want- i'd already listened to a lot of vincent before the freelancer series and i listened to milo just whenever- i finished listening to david, asher and sam last just bc they're not my kinda guys tbh 💀 the werewolves (david, asher and milo) and the vampires (vincent and sam) do also all appear in inversion and some people might recommend listening to them all first before inversion but i didn't and it was all fine- i could still figure out what was going on and could tell them apart easily but then again, if you do listen before, you'll understand inversion more and will have all the context so it's just up to you‼️i haven't listed all the character playlists btw, just the ones who appear in the narrative/plot-focused ones but there are others too like porter and morgan <3

and then there's other random characters like guy, ollie and geordi and stuff lol which aren't too involved in anything but they're veryvery cool and nice to listen to when recovering from angst 😃👍

oh and then there's the imperium au- which i'm actually still listening to (i keep procrastinating it lol). it's an alternate universe so just don't even go near that until you've listened to everything else 😭‼️

Ok I’m feeling better (got burnt out) so now I’m gonna continue my posts about next gen redacted ocs!! I made a custom tag for these posts, so you can click that to see the rest of them :D (it’s tagged on this post)

This time: David’s son, Dante!

- His full name is Dante Gabriel Shaw

- His nickname is probably smth like Danny, so Davey and Danny lol

- He looks a lot like Gabe, his eyes being closer in shade to Gabe’s than David’s, and his facial structure & hair being very similar as well. This makes David both happy and a little sad, which Dante doesn’t understand until he’s a little older and David explains everything about Gabe to him.

- David brings him and Angel to visit Gabe’s grave regularly, and they leave dahlia flowers and honeysuckles (which i stole from other ppls flower hcs sry fhksdhjs)

- He’s besties with Ashlyn (Asher’s daughter) because of course

- He has a sort of inner circle who are all his friends in the pack, so that includes Samuel Jr., Ashlyn, and Milo’s daughter

- He’s always acted like a mini alpha, protecting his friends like David does, he started mimicking David when he was 2, attempting to do speeches to the rest of the pack toddlers

- He shifted for the first time when he was 14, a week before the winter solstice, and while it was painful, he managed pretty okay. His shifted form is very similar to his dad’s (large black wolf in my hc), but with a white swirl pattern on his right flank.

- He is the most responsible in his friend group, making sure they’re all eating, they’re on time, etc. would absolutely be the guy who has all the papers and passports when they go on an international trip.

- He may act a lot like his dad, having a gruff exterior, but it’s mostly a cover, and he can be a little goofball sometimes, like his other parent (Angel)

- He loves playing minecraft, started when he was 5, and co-ops with Angel often to make cool builds

Ok now for official alpha / security company stuff that he’d do!!

- He’s David’s only kid (in this version of things) so he’s naturally expected to become Alpha

- So, he often shadows his dad to important events, as well as security gigs

- One of the major things is he accompanies his dad to Solaire-hosted events, and while his dad greets William and shakes hands with him, Dante greets Emilie (William’s daughter), and shakes hands with her.

- She enjoys messing with him, and has held him in a couple second trance to see how he reacts (like I said in her post, she’s not great with mortals), which he eventually, after a couple meetings, can reliably break out of.

- Usually at these events, he stands around with his dad mostly separated from the vampires, interacting only with those who approach them, because David is worried about him being vulnerable to attacks or trances

- Luckily for him, Samuel Jr. (Sam’s son) is a regular attendee at these events, as William invites him, Vivienne (Vincent’s daughter), and their parents. Of course, Samuel is very protective of his friends, so whenever Dante has been at risk, he’s protected him, albeit maybe too violently, but it gets his point across.

- Now I feel like it’s a good time to mention that Samuel jr and Dante are boyfriends / eventual mates!! So it adds an extra layer considering Samuel has a rightful claim to him (the magic bite thingy), mostly for the purpose of being allowed by vampire law to protect him somewhat violently 👍 (Samuel also visits Gabe’s grave independently to leave flowers, because he’s paranoid about getting permission to date and eventually propose to Dante cuz blah blah tradition even though Gabe wouldn’t care if he were alive)

- He also shadows his dad on security gigs, learning all the best ways to keep large groups safe and orderly in case of an emergency. He also gets properly trained in gun use, just in case, and does pretty alright (they train at a typical gun range after he gets the proper licenses)

- Dante eventually heads his own event security gig, and manages pretty well. He’s doing it with his group of friends, so they goof off a bit over radio, which he scolds them for, though lightheartedly

- He does experience some rough gigs, not ever quite inversion level but there was a time when a clan of vampires descended on a large event being held in a stadium that had similar levels of danger, with luckily less losses

- One day, when Dante is ~25, David gets pretty sick, though is not in any danger, simply is somewhat immobilized and can’t perform his usual duties. Asher takes over, as a beta typically does, but starts trying to convince Dante to take over as alpha, which has been a previous conversation before, especially between Dante and David, but Asher is now making it a bit more urgent, and Dante is resistant to the idea.

- Dante says something along the lines of David not being dead, just sick, so he doesn’t need to take over yet, since he’s scared of taking over so soon. Asher flinches at that, and things become awkward. He eventually apologizes, but Asher insists it’s okay.

- Dante takes some convincing, but eventually decides to step up and take over, after David promises to support him in learning his duties.

- He picks Ashlyn to be his beta, and she does a good job! His takeover of the pack goes pretty well, mostly because everyone was expecting it anyways. David recovers fully, and helps him keep everything orderly, and keeps being in charge of the security company for a few more years before signing that over to him as well.

Summit spoilers !! ( incredibly jumbled thoughts)

I started writing this the day after the summit came out. I think the spoiler warning is still valid !

- hella artblock but girl I will draw Sam and Tank sitting on a bench just outside the rain on skyside's porch holding hands and being so gooey and disgustingly sweet first chance I get. And more importantly sitting on their couch at home afterwards eating BUTTER PECAN ice cream. I am rotating them both in my mind.

- I do not want to talk or think about Alexis, so I won't. 👍 (Her VA was amazing though, props to them!)

- Asher and David should've kissed during that "look into my eyes" scene, I just think that would've been really fun. Angel probably thought so too

- I hope Sweetheart is okay because I am legitimately worried about them. And Milo because this is so stressful for him too lol

- And Lovely's crown.,. Oh my gosh. I have the biggest heart eyes you've ever seen. They love each other so much . I am rotating them in my mind also

- I am so fucking relieved Treasure didn't actually come. I have too many feelings in my body so it probably would've just made me evaporate off the face of the earth. I need their relationship to progress more please. if Porter didn't want to take them then why did he bother telling them about the magical world? Maybe just to have a consensual and regular blood source? being the best friend since birth he can read David as easily, he gets what he needs easily. And after David lost his dad we all know he pushed everyone away, milo even said it that he didn’t think pushing him would be right cause he was no longer just David but the alpha of the pack. David has mentioned too that when his dad died he practically lost everyone cause the title was suddenly thrust upon him and every dynamic changed, yet ash stayed.

Now I’m sure half the reason he did was cause he wasn’t ready to give up their dynamic either but let’s be honest, David was an asshole after all that, and I don’t blame him like he’s had it rough; I just find it so…endearing? Idek the right word- so asher of ash to still stick with him and be there for him through what? Years of David prolly shutting him out or just being mean. He still pushed through that cause even though their relationship is alpha and beta now, he’s still his best friend.

Granted he sucked at properly establishing that dynamic at first but i just admired that he kept trying for so long.

Hey big guy. It's me. Can we meet?

There’s an edge to Asher’s voice that speaks to his nerves, something that David can catch even through the tinny recording in his voicemail. The message ends as soon as it had started, the prerecorded voice listing off the date and time - twenty minutes ago - as David lowers the phone, thinking over their last few interactions, trying to piece it together.

It's not as if they hadn't met up many times this week. In fact, the latest had been yesterday, at the office with Milo to discuss their latest job. An elemental gig, bigger than their usual - which was good. Word was getting around about Shaw Security, and the business was growing; good news, for the pack as well as him.

But this… the fact that Asher asked to meet means that it's personal. Pack business.

Something he'd missed?

He goes over the events of the last pack meeting as he ducks down to tug on his boots, thinking back to the interactions he’d witnessed, the dynamics between the members. It had all seemed good, which didn’t mean jackshit if they were not willing to be fully open in front of him.

Maybe this was about Christian, and the less-than-subtle ribbing he gave Ash whenever the two of them were together. He’d been hoping they’d work it out, but maybe it was time he put his foot down. Reminded him of his place.

Swiping his phone unlocked, he shoots Asher a text.

D: THE BAR ON MAIN STREET. TWENTY MINUTES.

No less than a second later, he gets Asher's reply

Mouth settling into a grim line, he grabs his jacket from the back of the sofa and shoulders it, making his way out of the apartment.

“It’s not pack business,” is the first thing Asher says when he sees him and reads the tension in his features, the hard set of his shoulders. There’s a lopsided smile on his face as he tilts his beer towards him - a cheap lager, god knows how he can stomach the stuff - and he seems almost sheepish. “No crisis or anything. Can I get you a drink?”

David thinks he may need one. He hadn't had any real plans for that evening, except going over the plans for the next gig one more time, and by the look on Asher’s face, he’s not sure he’s gonna like the direction he’s planning on taking the conversation.

Setting his jaw, he ignores the offer, giving Ash a hard look. “If this is about me ‘getting a life-’”

“No!” Ash’s hands are up, “I mean, well, you should, buddy - and you know it - but no. That’s not what this is about.”

David waits.

“Are you sure you don't want a drink? Maybe a whiskey? Lemme just-”

“Ash.” There's an edge to his voice, although it’s not a full command, and Asher freezes in place, half-twisted in his seat to flag down the bartender. There’s a flush spreading across his cheeks, his eyes wide as he meets his gaze for a moment, before looking away again, and that… is not the reaction he’d expected.

Clearing his throat, he tries again. “Ash-”

"Babe and I have been talking."

His brow lifts, before the implication of his words settles in, and David’s heart clenches. Shit. But before he can say anything - and fuck, what could he say? He knew how happy Ash was in this relationship, it was easy to see in the way he’d acted over the last nine months - Ash raises both hands, fingers spread wide, his expression almost comically horrified.

“Shit- no. We aren’t- I didn’t mean… christ, I’m bad at this.” He laughs weakly, combing his fingers through his hair - and it was a mess before David even got here, as if he’d been messing with it ever since he’d called. He’s dressed down for the night, wearing jeans and a loose hoodie that downplays the lean strength David knows lies beneath it, his legs bouncing at the knee where he’s perched on the bar stool. “We’re fine. We’re still together. We were just - discussing the future.”

David releases a slow breath. When he speaks again, his voice is softer, or at least as soft as he can make it. So Asher wanted his support in this. He had it, of course he did.

“If you wanted to ask for my approval to tell them, you have it. It won’t take long to make the application, I can help you find the appropriate references-”

“Oh, they already know." David takes a moment to process that, and Ash flushes again, wincing. “Shit. Look, it - it was an accident. I’ll take the remedial class. But seriously, that's not what I called about-”

A low growl builds in his throat. “Just spit it out already, Ash.”

“-we want you to be our third.”

There’s a pause in the conversation, the ambient buzz of conversation in the bar surrounding them filling the silence.

“..Your what?”

“Our- third.” The flush has grown on Asher’s cheeks, travelling down his neck, below the collar of his hoodie. “It means- we want you to join us. For a night. For sex.”

Well, fuck. Anything he could have said, that he’d been planning on saying, flies out the window at that.

“...I’ll take that drink now.”

Darlin was the last to join the polycule mostly because of their absence. It was Angel fault mostly dragging them to what was technically date night for the group. Movie nights, camping trips Angel was bringing their plus one the whole time.

Darlin isn’t stupid they realized they were seventh wheeling but the moment they tried to pull away and give them space Angel latched on like an octopus. It was impressive honestly the shifters had known them for a while yet they didn’t bend for anyone like they did for Angel. Giving in with a barely hidden smile to their whims.

Angel had brought it up before of course first to david who expressed slight worry that Angel didn’t really know what Darlin was like. To prove him wrong they managed to get Darlin talking near straight for about thirty minutes about themself which was absolutely unheard of. Stories that should alarm or worry people yet Angel listened. Darlin realized they were getting feelings for the human and tried to pull away again underestimating the stubborn mate.

It was very dramatic how they confessed basically attempting to run away again only for angel to emphasize how theres nothing but open arms and finally kissing them. David’s kiss was more of a “finally you idiot” Milo decided his kiss was the perfect time to introduce them to the fear of being dipped. Asher was mostly spur of the moment after Darlin got him a gift and in his excitement kissed them. Sweetheart absolutely torments them and kisses them right after scaring them. Babe grabs them suddenly by the collar just to get it out of the way.

It is a long day when they realize that Darlin isn’t exclusively a dom. They swear one whine and its like pin drop quiet in the entire house. David who was happy to have two of his mates making out half on his lap freezes commenting with a look. “I know what Angel’s whines sound like…” They immediately try to hide their face in embarrassment yet gets pulled into their alphas lap. With them already groaning out his name in annoyance. They had plenty time to get off or to even stop his hands from slipping between their legs underneath the borrowed pants they were wearing. The gasp pulls Angel to kiss them again.

David and Darlin is a pair that usually requires no walking for an hour at least because they lean into rougher sex. There was almost a moment where someone wanted to check on them after they thought the pair were done for the night. Darlin tied down spread eagle and as David was trying to untie them he happens to tickle their foot leading to “Hey watch the feet asshole!” David despite used to their mouth pulls their leg keeping it right where he wants it and asks “Or what?” Darlin is an idiot and tells him “Or I’ll bite your dick off now quit it” It leads to a whole nother round that requires david to go get them water halfway through as well as a whole cool down in between. Everyone watches in horror as he goes back in to tame the beast.

Milo and Babe all have a field day with the realization Sweetheart and Angel certainly enjoy it but Asher talked too much shit and ended up in trouble as well.
