When Eddie sneaks through your window at nine thirty on a school night, he half expects you to be asleep already. It’s cold, he can feel the warmth of your home loosen his cold stiff fingers as he climbs the trellis to your window, but as he pulls himself in, he knows it’s not his lack of stealth that has you awake.

You lay on your bed, resting breezily on your back, fidgeting with a shiny new Walkman. It’s no question where you’ve gotten this to Eddie. Steve. You told Steve your Walkman was ruining your old tapes, and he bought you a new one. A gross wave of jealousy washes over him as his dark boot hits the white of your soft carpet.

“Hi, handsome.” You smile up at him. He smiles back, tight lips pushing into something meagerly convincing.

“Hi, bug.”

“Miss me already?” Your head tilts to your shoulder, flashing your prettiest eyelash bat to the older boy. He doesn’t bother with his boots, walking to stand over you.

Hands resting on his hips, he looks down to survey your face. “Now how did you know that?”

“Wild guess.” You wait for a kiss, smiling almost dejectedly when he plants one to your temple. You won’t bring it up though, opting to move your legs up so he can sit.

He makes himself at home.

“Cute socks.” His eyes wander from the funny graphic of your socks, up to your calves.

“You think?” Your toes wiggle sillily in his face. He pushes them down.

“Totally,” He beams at you. “Where’d you find them? You know I love a pair of silly socks.”

You pick the discarded Walkman up from your tummy and drop it on your nightstand. “You know that record store off Melvin?”

His eyes squint. “You’re too scared to drive that far alone.”

You nod. You are too scared to drive that far alone. “Steve took me.” You shrug, reaching to twirl his inky curls around your finger.

“Oh,” Eddie breathes. “That was nice of him.”

You shrug again. “He owed it to me.”

Eddie reaches up to flick you in the cheek. “Owed it to you? What’s he? Your lap dog?”

You give him a halfhearted kick. “I drove the kids around for him when he didn’t feel like it.”

“And then you made him drive you?”

“Exactly!” You smile at his crooked grin. He scoffs, picking a thread from your worn comforter, propped up against his elbow so that it digs into the mattress below the both of you.

His energy is off. A brazen assumption on your part, but a true one nonetheless. His smile slowly fades as he thinks your attention is away, but you see, and it knots your stomach. You frown, his lack of eye contact, and lack of smile concerning you. This is not the Eddie you’ve gotten to know over the summer.

“What is it?”

“Hm?”

“This,” You wave your hand over his face. “What are you thinking?”

He looks up. “How pretty you are.”

“You do that with a frown?”

“Not usually.” His head shakes. “No.”

“Than why are you doing it now?”

He pauses, heaving a tired sigh. It startles you, the quick change of emotions, and embarrassed weight to his shoulders. Your hand comes out to grab his own fingers. He looks down at the conjoining limbs.

“Are you..” he pauses, contemplating the words on his tongue. “out of my league?”

Your eyes furrow. “What?”

“I can’t give you the things Steve gets you.” He grimaces. A new Walkman, socks, a never ending list of treats and trinkets. Eddie can’t help but to feel inferior to the boy with money. “You know I’d like to, but I can’t help it.”

You chew his words slowly before swallowing. This is news to you. You’d never once questioned his undoubted infatuation for you because of his lack of money driven gifts, but now that you think, you can picture a sad look or two when Steve’d get you something shiny.

“And,” he starts again, shying his eyes away from your own. “It’s not that I want you to ask him to stop, cause you deserve these nice things, I just,” he sighs, hand coming up to the back of his neck. “I’m a little embarrassed”

“Of what?” You frown, not unkindly. Not to rub salt in the wound, but to understand where he’s coming from.

He struggles with his answer. “That I’m not enough for you?”

“Eddie-“

He breathes out heavily. “That- that you deserve more than what I can give you, like what Steve can get you.”

You don’t know what to say, how to console him in his insecurity. You are enough is medial at best, and I like you, not him, doesn’t feel like enough.

“I didn’t know you felt like that.” You start slowly, taking the time to choose your words carefully. “And I’m sorry, because I never would’ve wanted you to feel like that.”

“It’s not your fault.” He laments. “I just- I don’t know. I wish I could buy you the little things, you know?”

You nod, looking down at your comforter quietly. He frowns, reaching up to knock your chin. “What are you thinking?”

“I never meant to make you feel like that.”

“I know-“ You cut him off.

“And I’ve never once felt anything more towards Steve than you because he spoils me with these things.” You look up. “Hell I’ve never felt anything romantic for him ever.”

“Babe,” He starts, “it was silly, let’s forget it.”

“But it wasn’t silly,” Your head shakes. “you felt awful and I didn’t know.”

“I didn’t feel awful,” He tries to cajole. “I was just embarrassed.”

“Not much better.” You look up meekly.

He grabs your wrist pulling you to lay over his warm body. “I know.”

You settle, arms around his broad chest, feeling each breath. “I’m sorry.” You murmur.

“Don’t be.”

“Still am.” Your eyes close. “You’re more than enough for me.”

Eddie quietly basks in the attention that is your appreciation.

“I don’t care if you can’t get me expensive things.”

“I know,” His hand comes up to hold your head as he stares at the ceiling. “but I’d still like to get them for you.”

You think. You want to remind him of what he’s done for you. It doesn’t matter If it’s inexpensive, or homemade. He made it for you. He thought to put in this labor to physically make you something.

“Teddy is my favorite bear on my bed.” You say finally.

“So much that you named him after me.”

“Yep.” You nod. “And I wear that wire ring you made me everyday.”

It’s a simple little thing, twirling wire around a colorful rock he’s sure to have found outside his house. But it’s pretty, and you’ve never thought less of it because it was handmade.

“You do?”

“Only take it off to shower.”

He reaches down, warm hand closing around and your wrist and pulling it up to inspect your knuckles. “I don’t see it.”

“And sleep.” Your sheepish smile squeezes his heart. “Don’t want it to break.”

“Excuses, excuses.” He tuts, smile bright as it shines down on you.

“Whatever,” you brush him off with a smile and a foot nudge. You pause long enough to inhale all the way. “just know you can talk to me about these things, yeah?”

His eyes close, a slow nod following. “Yeah.” he breathes. “I know.”

“Good.” You nod curtly. “Cause now I need to figure how to get Steve to buy you a matching pair of these socks.”

The homophobia and projection are SOOO blaringingly obvious from Melvin’s.

“Byler can’t kiss bc it’d be weird and creepy!” But Melvin’s 13 year old make out scene is fine. Byler kissing each other on the cheek or holding hands would send them into an OUTRAGE of how “inappropriate” it is.

“It’d be more revolutionary for Will to move on and be single, lots of people have crushes when they’re young!” Yet Melvin should stay together forever despite the fact that they have relationship issues every single season.

“Will is evil and a home wrecker!!” Even though he hasn’t done a thing to break El and Mike up, in fact he’s the one trying to help them stay TOGETHER. Actually, Will hasn’t really done shit to anyone…but El can push max off a skateboard with her powers and it’s fine. Why does El get to be jealous but Will’s jealousy & feelings (that he keeps to himself) make him a “homewrecker?”

They use rovicky as their token gay ship, or something non canon like Elmax, ronance, steddie etc. but their homophobia jumps out with Byler bc it has potential to become canon & they’re scared.

I can’t count the amount of ppl calling Will the f slur on Twitter & justifying it by them being lgbtq as well…that’s not an excuse to call someone (even a fictional character) a slur esp considering the actor is literally gay? Regardless of what Noah did, that is homophobia, and coming from a queer person makes it worse! That affects our entire community. If you call them out on it they just gaslight you. It’s frustrating and sad to see.

Yeah honestly I agree, MANY of the people that think Will should not end up with Mike are acting like this and having double standards that are born from homphobia & biphobia more than anything else and they show it with the ''arguments'' they use to say that it should not happen in the show even if they don't realize it 100% that's the real reason they are saying these things, for many it's not only a question of diffent preferences for the story

chet and his family moved from california when he was in 3rd grade. his first friend in town was one sodapop curtis on his little league baseball team

his dad is a cop and wants to advance up the ranks, and his mom wants to make sure they keep up their good social standing, so chet was not friends with soda for long

you know those boys in like 5th grade that crack all the dumb jokes, hit all the door frames, and tease every girl "because he likes her"? thats chet and trip

this is inspired by @/sky4cherry iirc but chet does Nawt get attention at home man. his dad is always busy with work and a little mean (yknow how dads are in the 60s) and his mom is always working on the next social function or trying to appease his dad. anyways he is just always at another soc guy's house just to have someone Talk to him

i think he picks up drinking and smoking, and fighting, for a similar reason to bob: he just wants his parents to fucking notice he's doing something wrong. but theyre high enough now in the social and job spaces that they can just wipe any misdemeanors under the rug

i cant decide if chet is an only child, or if he has like 2 siblings that are way older than him. idk

him and chet can not be sat together in class. they will never shut up or stop hitting each other.

chet broke his arm one time in like 6th grade. trip threatens to break it again at least once a month

ive said this before but ill say it again: trip and melvin are just soc steve and ponyboy. trip is so tired of his kid brother being in all his sports and trying to tag along to everything

that being said, he was looking out for melvin so much during the rumble. he knew their mom would kill him if he brought his brother home all beat up, but also he really really didn't want him to get too hurt.

he Always goes to marcia to patch him up after hes been in a fight. (after the rumble though, him and marcia are on the rocks, and hes got melvin to worry about. so he just sneaks melvin home and tries to clean him up before their mom sees. its actually a sweet bonding moment between them i think)

trip lovesssss verbally poking fun at any greaser in school, especially two-bit. after he realizes two-bit likes marcia, his mean jokes become a lot more threatening

(i do love trip i promise i just also think hes kinda a mean guy. you know the kind of rowdy douche bags in high school im talking about. im so sorry ksco and sean jones i promise i love trip kdjfkdjf)

i do think he has one of the better home lives out of the bunch, and hes got his lovely perfect girlfriend, and hes good at sports, and honestly i think he just. gets tired of everyone thinking hes got it so perfect all of the time. i think maybe thats why he likes all the fighting so much

obviously we know the most about bob and his home life and inner psyche and reasons for fighting and honestly all of it really resonates in my brain. like yea im keeping all of that

he used to be such a mommas boy. before her praise just became so meaningless.

he knows cherry cant stand the drinking, and i do think he does feel bad about ignoring her feelings about it. but his urge to push back against everything and spit in the face of anyone who tries to tell him how he should be just overpowers. and god everything is more fun when hes boozed up

“Would I Be Happier If I Was Egoist?”

What happens in the unconscious brain: 

A lot of times, the question around being egoistic is seen as a bad character trait because “as in a society, we need to put the other first”

But the reality is, we all need to put our well being as a priority, in order to find a certain comfort and happiness in life. 

We tend to care more for others due to the societal regime we are born in but also because it's a parental responsibility to socialize us (as well as school)

Parents and the educational system will teach children about the duty as a person and “how the world works”, what we have to do to have a good life. Some parents will based themselves in education as being “well mannered” = which often concludes to “shutting up and accepting what is said and done” 

Most of us have learned since we are young that benign good and well mannered will reward us, while being bad and egoistic is going to be punished and casted out. 

Rowe shows in her theories that people who have a “bad” education as putting themselves first have a lower probability of suffering depression compared to people who have been educated through well mannered ways and have been educated as putting others first

Rowe insists that being good is a fundamental belief for depression,

Mostly because those who have been educated as being “good” can sometimes have situations where they have issues with authority or the rules. whenever they are unable to make it right or obtain a certain value, they will consider themselves as failures and thus enhance the feelings of guilt and depression.

the underlying belief of the world as a fair and predictable place corroborates the mistaken belief that good people are rewarded and increases the feeling of inadequacy 

We need to start accepting that the world isn't fair and predictable, and that rules are here to allow us to see past the chaos. However unwritten laws don’t tie you up to necessities and you are allowed to be egoistic when you need to be.

As Albert Camus once said, to be happy we should not worry much about others 

The world isn’t fair and no matter what you will do, there will never be a wrong and right answer

You need to liberate yourself from the necessity of pleasing everyone and everything. 

Instead of making events fit into our impoverished pile of possible narratives, throw out rules and allow yourself to be who you are without any attachment 

Find the middle spectrum between pleasing others and being good, and being egoistic and putting yourself first. Take in consideration the environment but never push your body and soul to do something that is breaking you down

You are only sabotaging yourself by doing so

Breaking rules can be easy and can lead you to happiness. Experiment. Eat that cookie. Tell your boss he has been an ass. Tell your friends no. Say yes to life.

Me just thinking out loud and inarticulately trying to wrap my head around my thoughts on the simmering dumpster fire that is my hometown team. Feel free to scroll on by.

I feel like something missing from a lot of the Curl discussion is the context it all happened in. Lots of articles and posts make it seem like the problem fans have is just that Curl got drafted at all. And I think the context around it all matters.

The league shit canned Natalie Darwitz days before the draft, wouldn't say why, acted like they aren't saying anything because they want to respect Darwitz, but meanwhile Darwitz seems like she would LOVE to talk about the situation.

To make matters worse there's all this talk and speculation surrounding the role Klee had in this, and amongst that he goes to the draft table with the emptiest table of any team, drafts Curl in the second round, (you can tell the league already was ready for bad fallout from Curl because they had a prepared statement locked and loaded to go out in the youtube chat seconds after it happened), and then Klee IMMEDIATELY makes things worse by purposefully staging her draft photo to be taken with St. Paul's mayor Melvin Carter (a black man) and the assistant coach (a queer woman).

Then Klee, the team, and the league decide to handle the fallout from everything in the most half-assed tone-deaf manner possible.

Before the Darwitz debacle I had mentally prepared myself for the eventuality that someone would draft Curl. But I had prepared myself for someone doing it in the back half of the draft.

A team would get her, but at least it would suggest Curl's actions had lowered her value considerably in teams' eyes.

Like, none of the craziness happened, and Darwitz had drafted Curl in the 5th or 6th round, made a proper acknowledgement of the situation and their plan for moving forward, and Curl had made an apology video that was written by someone who didn't go to the American Political School of Empty Statements?

I think the community could understand. We wouldn't love it, but we could live with it. It would be like seeing a big spider in the corner of my ceiling: I certainly don't like it, and I'm gonna keep my eye on this, but as long as it doesn't step to me any further we'll be alright.

But that's not what happened. And that's not how it happened.

And I'm still not sure what to do with my Minnesota fandom at this point.

At the moment I'm waiting to see what the final team looks like. If they re-sign their queer players I'm willing to put in the work to fight against Mr. Potato Head's attempts to sabotage my team, and try to at least make the fan community as welcoming and inclusive as possible.

But if Klee and co. don't bring back Minnesota's queer players? Then I'm out. For the good of my own mental health I'll go support a different team until they can get their shit together.

Because I do believe that people can change. Especially people in their 20s who were dumb-ass ignorant assholes in college. And she's not my main problem. My main problem is what does this team and this league want to be? Because someone like Curl coming into a queer positive environment is one thing. But her coming into a place with nothing but conservative ideals and a pinkwashed door? That's something else entirely.

And if the people at the top are going to fire the woman who built the team, put a dude in charge, give a person with a history of supporting bigoted ideas a position of influence, and become the only team in the league without any queer players?

And then have the gall to claim to be an inclusive?

I wanted to make this post cuz a lot of you were so "CoNcERnEd" about me and the allegations made by the anons. And well in case people wanna find "info". I kinda don't care if people wanna keep attacking me and shit but yk. I have to speak up and explain.

So I wanna start by saying that what I did last Thursday and Friday was very retarded and dumb of me and I highly apologize once again. I was not in the right mindset and it was never my intention to ignore anyone's advice. I have been mentally unstable and stressed that I couldn't focus. Yeah. I was having anger issues and a meltdown. I couldn't control them so I'm apologizing for the way I acted that time without thinking straight. It's not easy to be a CU artist because of what's happening and I admit it's not easy for me to be perfect like you guys wanted me to be. About the allegations... the anons were also after one of my moots so I wanted to explain and debunk them. It's giving me a headache and overwhelming the living shit out of me.

The grooming: this allegation is false. I'm sick of seeing them throwing the allegations around like it was some sort of volleyball-type shit. (I'm A MINOR !!! Not a adult-)

Match Review: Manchester United Women 1-1 Arsenal Women

Well done, Skinner. You woke Arsenal back up. For fuck sake.

Arsenal with Jonas were shit. Arsenal post-Jonas have looked a little lost. You always step up against bigger opposition due to the fear of getting humbled, but Arsenal looked really sharp today.

Their passing was better, more inventive, of greater accuracy. Their movement was sharper, their duelling was better timed and more productive.

Their diligence and quality was rewarded with a goal by no other than ex-United forward Alessia Russo, with a cute finish that surprised Phallon Tullis-Joyce to give Arsenal the lead in the 63rd minute.

PTJ did have a very good game though, as did Maya Le Tissier and Millie Turner at CB. Gabby George and Aoife Mannion were solid enough, but United did look better with sub Jayde Riviere on.

Janssen was assured as ever in CDM, whilst Lisa Naalsund was a little off-the-boil today. Simi Awujo was an upgrade at half time when Naalsund went off injured, but it begged the question why no start when Arsenal are known for being a little more athletic and pressing than United. The same can be said for the usage or lack of re: Hayley Ladd - another solid DM.

United's issue was in attack though. Celin Bizet looked sharp and had a lot of the ball, but that made her an obvious double-up target and limited her impact. Grace Clinton was wasteful in CAM but also keenly pressed, and Ella Toone ineffective at LW.

A second-half positional swap for the two didn't achieve a lot, but the subs of Malard for Toone, Geyse for Bizet, and Williams for Terland did. Good decisions. Skinner isn't entirely useless, and Malard/Geyse were exceptional from when they came on. Very active, driving at Arsenal with intent... it was nice to see the fear flipped.

The problem is that things like Malard on the left... they're obvious. She's far more comfortable on the left, like the injured Leah Galton, than Toone/Clinton. This comfort makes a player a threat, and that makes Arsenal respect the player and press them. That buys others time and space. Clinton and Bizet are in great form, yet today they looked tame.

Based on the Arsenal press, it was incredibly stupid not to utilise Hinata Miyazawa also. Personally I'd have started her over Tooney, who I feel has been okay but not great, and given her recent bereavement... I get wanting to play and to keep busy, but form comes first. Miyazawa has looked great whenever she has featured this season. We cannot waste her like Irene Guerrero, and she's INCREDIBLY PRESS-RESISTANT. Handy versus notorious pressers Arsenal...

All of the above also limited the impact of Elisabeth Terland too, but luckily we have the guile of Rachel Williams on the bench, and the central preference of Melvine Malard that helps her be a double threat from LW and going beyond Rach.

Speaking of Millie, she won both the Player of the Match award for her stoic defending and was given a commemorative shirt for her 150th United appearance - seen here with partner Lisa Naalsund and the rest of her family.

Both teams will feel hard done by with just a point, but oh well. Better than a defeat.

Next up is a lovely 6:45pm SUNDAY fixture against Aston Villa at the LSV. A very winnable game, but wtf is that timing? Ew.

i wanna take just a small moment to FANGIRL over lovette. i love her so so SO much…. anyway

i feel like she’s got a good head on her shoulders.. at least compared to the other prefects. although that’s not exactly hard when they’re consistently taking advantage of their power

based upon your own hcs, i think what makes her unique as a prefect is her strong sense of justice, that comes from her autism even if her moral compass is a little flexible, she still maintains her duty to protect vulnerable students, especially the little kids.

she’s pretty well liked amongst her peer group because she’s not a massive stickler like the other prefects. the non cliques don’t mind her because she leaves them well enough alone. the greasers are pretty tight with her because of the services she provides. the nerds… don’t want to get bullied so they see her as a big ally. the jocks…. eh, it’s a pretty even split. the usual aggressors (COUGH damon, juri COUGH) don’t like her so much because she gets them in trouble. the smaller, less outwardly aggressive jocks like dan are pretty neutral toward her.

the nerds actually have an NPC inspired by lovette in their G&G campaign, “Mistress Lancelot” she’s basically like an iron golem, protecting their party from harm on their adventure. it’s really sweet…. the minifigure is less sweet. melvin didn’t have a base for a giant so she’s technically an orc.

i feel like the preps miss lovette a lot. especially parker and tad, i feel like those two make bonds super quickly and then get absolutely CURB-STOMPED when things get murky and friendships tail off. tad already wants to overthrow derby… maybe he could get lovette to come back when he does

There’s a lot to see when you’re on the road. Landscapes that look like they came straight out of a movie, bright and vast as you look on in wonder. Stars shimmering overhead and ripples in the lake. The way sunlight shines through the leaves, the haze of a snowstorm, the layers in the sandstone.

Coyotes nipping at your heels, getting tipsy off cactus juice, trying (and failing) to identify edible plants, using marshmallow bags for pillows. Wait, are mules the ones that can stand on super steep inclines? Or was it goats… Yeah, yeah it was definitely goats. Ouch.

It’s a wild world out there, but it’s nothing you can’t handle!

And the sweet relief of finding a town to stop by for the night! A nice breath of fresh air, restocking on supplies, eating good food, and just having idle chit chat. Not to say that mules can’t be conversationalists in their own right, but it’s just nice to be around other people.

Beaming with pride and ambition as you regale the events of your journey to put yourself out there, to prove yourself, to change the world as we know it!!

Or at least that’s what you would do, if anybody bothered to ask.

They discover the valley, the Onceler sets up shop and chops down the first tree, and it isn’t long until he and the Lorax get in a squabble about it. But Artic steps in, trying to find a compromise.

If we can’t stay here, where else could we go? And besides, there IS a town not far from here. If they haven’t been a problem, then surely we could find a way to stay here?

On the other hand, if thneeds do become a smash hit and people want more, then what? You’ll cut down more trees, unable to stop just to keep up. And at that rate, they’ll all be gone!

Artic lights up as she gets an idea, whispering to the Lorax about it before being given a tentative go ahead. But for the Onceler, it's a surprise and she does a cheeky wink as she runs off to the cottage.

Of course he’s all “Aw cmon! You'll tell him but not me?” and he tries to ask the Lorax what she said but he's not budging.

He tries to sneak a few glances when Artic’s tinkering away, but he can never quite figure out what she’s up to…

Until one day, Artic says she’s finally got it. It’s finally done! And she leaves a note saying to meet her at that super tall hill to the east!

The Onceler, the Lorax, and a buncha animals make their way up there, to see Artic with the biggest grin on her face! And straps around her shoulders and waist, and some kinda thingy on her back?

Wait, are those- FWOOSH

Big ol makeshift wings unfurl from her back, causing some of the animals to back up in surprise! She rolls her shoulders, and interestingly, her wings seem to follow the movement.

THIS is what she’s been working towards!! THIS is what she’s been working on for like a month!! THIS is what she, admittedly, had been sneaking out at night to test prototypes for-

You see, Artic wanted to make a way to grab truffula tufts without chopping down the whole tree! But in order to do that, you would need your hands free. So, she made wings that move with your shoulders and upper back!!

(Inspired by the fact that I can make my shoulder blades stick out of my back, and Artic’s wings have a wider range of motion because of that :D)

Plus having a bird’s eye view of the valley gives you an easier time seeing which trees have more tufts, which ones have nests so you don’t disturb them, and it’s just plain fun!!

As if on cue, the winds shift. And before you know it, she’s running up the hill, getting closer and closer to the edge until!!

She leaps off, fabric billowing as it catches the air, and she’s off!! Swooping down to a nearby tree, grabbing the tufts, and spiraling down to the soft grass below, her face just barely peeking out from the armfuls of pink fluff :D

The Onceler runs up and tackle hugs her, but she’s like “AAA WAIT” bc the wings are kinda fragile and wouldn’t handle her landing on her back too well, so the two of them just kinda spin around mid-hug to regain balance ouo

The Onceler is absolutely ENAMORED with the wings, inspecting every little part and the materials and how everything was put together and!!!!!

Actually, speaking of which, he suggests that she could've used a different type of stitch on the fabric in order to keep all these moving parts together.

To which Artic admits that she doesn't actually know how to sew, she just figured it out from watching him- So he offers to make celebratory pancakes and teach her a thing or two ouo!!

I picture half-timbered style houses, little flower planters in the windowsill, this central farmer’s market type area in the center near that marble gazebo thingy the Onceler performs at.

Maybe there’s a part where the land goes upwards into a hill, and that was made into a dirt path that goes up around the back of the town where you can look over the whole thing!

And there’s a grassy flowery field up there that makes for a perfect picnic spot ouo. Maybe a small pond too!

And by this point Artic had built a second set of wings just for him, larger and more built for gliding long distances as opposed to Artic’s more angular high speed wings.

There’s this scene in my head where he’s using the wings for the first time, and he loses balance and almost crashes but Artic swoops in and saves him, and they’re just smiling at each other and akjskdf <3

Artic and the Onceler making homemade hot chocolate! They were originally just making it for themselves, but the Lorax showed up like “What are you two makin all this racket about?” along with some other critters, so they ended up making a whole buncha hot chocolate for everybody!!

Here we've only got one rule, never ever let it cool!!

Just this fun montage of them getting everything prepared! What do you MEAN you haven’t seen the hot chocolate scene in the Lorax movie-

Eventually they run out of mugs, so they had to use stuff like bowls and gravyboats- And they had a buncha toppings to go with it! Candy canes and cinnamon sticks and chocolate wafer sticks, and of course a buncha big ol marshmallows ouo

Artic and the Onceler clink their mugs together and everybody sips their drinks and there’s just this big collective sigh of comfort -u-

The Lorax gets a hot chocolate mustache, and if this were a real scene in the movie, I could totally see “double mustache” becoming an old fandom meme

The window’s open and it’s a bit chilly, so Artic goes to shut it, but she can see her breath a little bit. They don’t exactly have a weather forecast out there, but given those clouds in the distance they might get a snowstorm soon!! Her and the Onceler getting all excited about how they’re gonna make snowmen and have snowball fights-

Buuut they realize their little pop-up cottage situation probably isn’t built for that kinda weather. It’s certainly waterproof! I imagine it’s got a top layer of this thick scratchy tarp stuff with fabric underneath?

But either way there’s definitely not enough insulation for the cold. Not to mention the snow could build up on the roof and send the whole thing collapsing in on itself!

Luckily, these two are smart cookies with a love for tinkering. They’ll figure something out! They always do ouo

AAAA Artic and the Onceler are just so bright and energetic and full of life!!! Long days and bright skies and goofy little dances and the smell of fresh blueberry pancakes and going to the farmers market and stargazing and working with what you’ve got!

There's always some new invention or adventure or something to explore, just fun slice-of-life shenaniganry! The air is fresh and the sunlight is warm and everything is gonna be alright ouo

Now this whole time they’ve just been friends. Buddies! Business partners, even! But the Onceler thinks he might be starting to have feelings for her… So with no one else to go to, he asks the Lorax for advice.

Though not without a bit of searching first. Geez, where is that guy when you need him?

When asked what he likes about Artic, I mean, just look at her!

She’s brilliant! She made wings and jumped off a cliff and it worked, how crazy is that! She’s just so… Fun! And full of energy and bright like the sun! Oh, and she makes an amazing pie, you’re really missing out- And she listens to me, and we bounce ideas off of each other, and…

She thinks I’m worth something.

Basically these two are obviously crushing on each other but they’re sooo awkward and oblivious about it and the Lorax is just in the background like “KISS EACH OTHER ALREADY”

They have soooo many little nicknames for each other- They don't really use "standard" petnames but they'll just go back and forth calling each other all sorts of goofy stuff

Ollie. Butterfly. Hummingbird. Bumblebee. Morning glory. Buttercup. Sunflower. Dragonfly. Dandelion. Sweet pea. Bell pepper. Sweet potato. Milkshake. Apple fritter. Cornbread. Texas toast. Egg sugar salt flour bake at 350 degrees-

Suffice to say, neither the Onceler nor Artic had good families. But even if their circumstances were similar, the way they responded to it are near opposites.

The Onceler still wants to believe that his family cares about him.

Given how his family lives in the middle of nowhere, maybe he didn’t leave very often. And between that and a lack of friends, he never had much frame of reference for what’s healthy and normal.

He’s so used to just giving in and doing what they want, in the hopes that eventually they’ll see how hard he’s worked and give him the validation he craves. He set out on this whole journey to prove himself to his family.

He’s always been told that family is important, if not the most important thing out there. Blood runs thicker than water, they say. He still talks to them because they’re his family, how could he ever let them go?

So he keeps convincing himself that if he just tries hard enough, everything will work out.

Meanwhile Artic set out to prove to herself that there’s more to life than a cluttered room.

You go outside and feel fresh air fill your lungs and you remember the world is real again. Those mountains in the distance can be touched! They can be climbed!

There’s a feeling in your chest, in your gut. All the things you never did, all the things you never said. All that pent-up energy built up into the very core of your being and left to fester, acidic and searing through anything it touches.

But it doesn’t feel like that anymore. It hasn’t ever since you came to the valley.

Ever since you left that house you knew you were searching for something, but you could never quite figure out what.

But the answer was right here all along. You were looking for home.

Home is an unfamiliar concept to you. A vague sensation, a faraway daydream, something you never thought you’d see. But it’s here now. You’ve found it.

Open windows. A sunlit room. The smell of a cake in the oven. The soft strumming of music in the air. A warm embrace under soft, heavy blankets. You’re safe. You’re home.

Sometimes there are long, tearful nights talking about the past. Both of them coming to the realization that their circumstances were not, in fact, the most normal thing in the world. Nor did they deserve that treatment.

Both of them have been hurting for a long, long time. But in the subtle way, the way that makes you question if you’re just overreacting. A hundred little “not as bad as it could’ve beens”, tucked away in the cabinet.

One night, during one of these talks, Artic asks if she's… Damaged goods, so to speak. Of course to which the Onceler says she's not a burden at all!

We're both fruit in the basket that's been a little battered up but if there's anything he's learned on the farm, it's that overripe bananas make the best banana bread, and sometimes the watermelons with spots and webbing are the sweetest.

Like he just goes on a tangent about ripeness and flavor in crops and it's adorable and she's just watching him with a smile <3

Because now that they’re here, they can start to heal. They’ve found home in each other, and now, they’re never letting go. Figuratively or literally, they’re so snuggly they just cling to each other in their sleep like their lives depend on it

Also Artic has pajamas similar to the Onceler’s! Except they’re pink with offwhite hearts, and with short sleeves and shorts. And socks, specifically the white ones with the gray toe and heel ouo

With the sharp ringing of the telephone, the Onceler’s family calls him insisting to know where he is. Not because of his invention, but because they want money from him.

This wasn’t new, and back at the house, he had a habit of hiding his stuff so nobody would steal it. But when his family found out he had been hiding money from them, they’d just guilt trip him into handing it over anyways.

But if you budge on your boundaries, that won’t satisfy them. They’re just gonna keep pushing now that they know the pressure works.

So it isn’t long until a trailer barrels through the forest, and boy is it a mess

His family clowning him for living in the middle of the woods and still not amounting to anything, his mom keeps calling Artic his girlfriend (derogatory), everybody’s just trampling around like they own the place.

And while the Onceler is still very intimidated by all this, his movements made stiff with stress, he is able to stand up for himself thanks to Artic’s support. But they still show no signs of leaving.

So, Artic meets up with the Lorax and the animals and gets to planning. After all, they do say that intruders get cursed by the forces of nature…

Through a combination of nature and machine, a buncha little contraptions get set up in the night to scare the Onceler’s family away! And a sigh of relief sweeps through the valley-

When the trailer barreled in and outta there, a lot of trees got trampled and snapped. The leftover wood was then used for firewood, among other things.

The wood itself smells pleasantly sweet when burned, and they discovered that the inner bark makes for a cinnamon-like powder that tastes like butterscotch!

And for a while, things are back to normal, with the duo’s latest adventure being exploring the valley, charting it all on a big ol map! But one day…

He’s not quite sure how it happened. Artic was seemingly gone without a trace.

Both of them often split up to do their own thing, so it wasn’t a worry at first, but the day was almost over and she hadn’t even left a note. Maybe she had gotten lost in the valley? But her wings and the map were still at the cottage.

The Lorax says that he spotted her in town earlier, having what was clearly a tense conversation with someone he had never seen. He swore he only looked away for a second, but with that, she was gone like the breeze.

So with that, he grabbed his wings and set out to find her. Without much of a lead, the search took days on foot and hoof and wing alike. But eventually, he found it.

A regular old house, or so it would seem, In a place where not even fireflies gleam Grass that grickled and tickled and scratched at your skin A well-worn doormat that beckons you in

And in the dark hues of blues in the night Where clouds came to stifle the full moon’s light All the windows were shut, locked as tight as they could All but one, where a lone figure stood

There behind the curtains Look close and you’ll see Soft blue eyes drip, drip, dripping

I’m not exactly sure how her family found her in Greenville, or why they brought her back. I imagine for some kind of family event? But then there was a holiday coming up soon, and this, and this, and before she knew it she was living there again.

And she stayed there because she felt like she didn’t have a choice. That, and, she thought she could help. Her family is struggling, but if she stays any longer, this house threatens to swallow her whole.

Artic looked… Tired. Awfully so. She glanced to the side, almost yelling in surprise as she finally noticed the Onceler standing there at the windowsill sjkfsd

Hushed chatter, a quick kiss, having to hide and pretend to be asleep at one point… The hope in her eyes, accentuated with tears that sparkled in the hazy moonlight, was heartbreakingly bittersweet. I missed you so much.

…I wanna go home.

Then let’s go home.

When they get back everything seems all fine and dandy, but Artic can’t help but wonder.

They had bonded over their passion and spirit of adventure. For being as bright as the sun and twice as energetic. For all the ideas they’ve shared and the things they’ve made and the places they’ve been.

But what if she can’t always be like that? Would he still love her then? When she’s tired and scared and can’t get anything done? When she feels as though she could shatter at any moment? When she needs a lot of comfort and encouragement just to keep going?

She resents feeling so down, telling herself that she’s not supposed to be like this. That she’ll just bring everyone down with her.

Is it not Euridice’s fault for dying, for being the reason Orpheus trekked into the underworld? She’s terrified of losing what they have, but even more scared of being the reason it fizzles out.

But she’s brought out of her thoughts as a hand gently pushes the hair out of her face, followed by a dreamy sigh. There she is. There’s the girl he fell in love with.

Of course he’ll still love her when she’s feeling blue. How could he not? The Onceler fell in love with her, not just her happiness. How could he not love her in her darkest moments when she did the same for him? How could he not?

And besides, you can’t expect anyone to be happy all the time, especially not with what we’ve been through. You don’t have to be a certain way to be lovable, to be loved. You just are.

I love you. And I’ll say it as many times as I need to convince you.

One of these nights, they have dreams of if things were different. If the Onceler achieved incredible success beyond his wildest dreams, but it came at a cost. Of the valley, of his workers, of Artic.

Basically they dream of the Biggering AU, and when they wake up to tell each other the crazy dream they just had, they realize that the events line up perfectly. Some kinda funky shared dream situation

When they go and ask the Lorax about it, he just says that the valley works in mysterious ways.

To which the Onceler scoffs. He can believe a colorful valley and a giant furry peanut, but either of them being magic is too far!

The dream spurs conversation of what could’ve gone differently, if they would change things if they could, and if it would even be worth it.

But while things haven’t been perfect, they have each other, and they wouldn’t trade that for the world. The time will pass anyways, so might as well enjoy it.

They have another shared dream later, but this time it’s all sweet and fluffy with giant fruit ouo
