Me, reading the first thirty words of this post: Yes. Mm hmm. Exactly.
Me, reading everything after that: HWHAT WHAT WH HAT WHAT W
WHAT IS HAPPENING ON THAT SHOW????? THIS IS INSANEEEEE
Itā€™s so frustrating that so many people donā€™t know or realise that Jughead Jones is actually weird, he is a weirdo, and itā€™s not just because of that stupid hat - itā€™s because of the way he mines the real life tragedies of his friends and loved ones for his own personal gain, the fact that heā€™s died at least 4 times, that there is at minimum 3 of him and you could make an argument for there being 6, that only like 4 of the people heā€™s ever met have liked him and those 4 people do not include his parents, that he trapped his friends in a perpetual cycle of being 17 because he canā€™t move on or get over anything, that he was asked to film his high schoolā€™s production of Carrie and ended up filming a true crime documentary and that isnā€™t even half of the weird but true facts about my friend Jughead

Wow! Hereā€™s something incredibly personal.
This is Good Bi Gender. A comic I made to express some feelings I have about my gender. I donā€™t really have that much else to say about it. Here it is.
[Image Description: A digital comic made with sharp, angular abstract lines and only the colors white, blue, pink, and black. The featured character is all white, except for facial features and hair colors, which changes from panel to panel. The comic reads: Cover Panel: The text "Good Bi Gender", the words colored with the trans flag. It shows a glitchy person's face, half pink and half blue. Panel 1: White text reads: "Hello. My name is apparently irrelevant. And my pronouns are he/him and she/her. But you can't call me she/her. And here's why." Someone with a half-pink and half-blue shirt looks to the side. One eye is covered with hair, and the other eye is pink while the iris is blue.
Panel 2: The character sits happily, imagining facial hair and a masculine voice. "I don't want top surgery. I love my chest. And I dream about being on testosterone someday soon." The character looks at a phone, frowning. The phone shows the male symbol with an "X" through it. Text next to it reads: ā€œPeople don't seem to think that the features I dream of are very pretty though... Or they think even worse of them than thatā€¦ā€
Panel 3: The characterā€™s features are all pink, and sits in a blank frame. The character reaches over to a blue frame, frowning. ā€œI don't like the animosity. I really despise it.ā€ A photo of the character shows an all-blue frame and blue hair, with pink outlines and facial features. ā€œTo be a boy... I aspire to be one. I aspire to be masculine in all its handsomeness. All its prettiness.ā€ Panel 4: The character sits in an all blue panel, but reaches back out to the pink panel. ā€œAnd I'm still a girl too. I was so excited to have both. To love both. To have handsome femininity. Beautiful masculinity.ā€ The frames break and connect, and pink and blue swirl together. The character smiles in between the frames, with one pink eye and one blue eye. ā€œSo excited. And yet I get askedā€¦ā€
Panel 5: Two hands hold out two different pills to the character, one blue and one pink. They ask ā€œMale? or Female?ā€ using the male and female symbols. The character, facial features an array of pink and blue, looks between the two hands, distressed. ā€œIt's both! I'm both! They're not opposites. Not narrow boxes. I say I'm both despite the insistence that I can't be. And I know what I look like. I know I look like a girl to most. I know that if I say people can call me she, that's all I will get from most. Because it's "easier". It "makes more sense". To have my masculinity, I am often forced to be unflinching in it and it alone. To never use she. Because if I don't, I will never get to have he.ā€ [The words "she" and "he" are italicized.] Panel 6: Text reads: ā€œI'm still very happy to be so comfortable in my identity. To know, despite all that, that I am indeed a boy and a girl and both. But you know. Telling people to only use he/him for me. Guarding my masculinity all just to have it. All at the expense of the part of me who is happily and unashamedly a girl.ā€ The character cries from one pink eye, the other hidden. The character holds a pink girl in a sea of blue, the girl crying out. In the midst of the blue, text reads: ā€œWell, it fucking breaks her heart.ā€ End ID]
Edit: @starberry-skies wrote an ID for the comic, so I added it to the og post with its permission!

Secret Origins 80 Page Giant (1998) / Last Laugh #3
#ramblings of a lunatic#stephanie brown#arthur brown#reading any comic with Arthur in it is such a rollercoaster- specifically Dixon's arthur#bc he's this really mundane kind of monster in terms of just having an empty life#he doesn't have friends who aren't henchmen or terrible people he doesn't have work that fufills him#he describes where they live as 'a dump' in secret origins BUT bop 49 reveals he owns the house#his og silver age origin was losing his game show#bitch has NOTHING and he seemingly takes this frustration out on crystal and steph#he comes back to their house during the quake (in the issue this panel is from) just to ransack to fuck with them (#according to secret origins he'd call Crystal while behind bars and whatever he said to her was enough to send her spiraling#and worsen her addiction. he tries to keep these women he doesn't even love prisoner bc he's such a fucking loser#no one on earth- even ppl like the riddler who he seems to think of as his friend- could care less whether he lives or dies#AND STEPHANIE HAS TO WAKE UP EVERYDAY AND SEE HIS ASS IN THE MIRROR#idk how much it was elaborated on in batgirls 15 but i DO actually like the idea that steph and Arthur have some things in common#and it KILLS steph. bc that man hit her mom and anyone who hurts her mom is abjectly worthless to her#but also. arthur clearly has an inferiority complex as far as I can tell- for all the reasons i outlined before#even in a meta sense he was brought back in the 90s (in the story which brought steph into existence) bc the writers wanted to make him-#-more than just a riddler knock-off. that's who he is fundamentally when you explain him is a worse version of someone else#and steph. steph who got treated as the sidekick to the sidekick in universe and out. steph who wants nothing more-#-than to prove she's good enough (both morally in spite of her dad and skill wise in spite of herself)#that feeling of not being enough that partially drives her wicked father. she feels that and she has to live w that#that's why i think self confidence is such an important part of Steph's journey. it's what separates her from Arthur#(among other things ofc). he feels bad abt his life and hurts ppl. she feels bad abt her life and saves ppl

Dick Grayson is my favorite lil guy
And my favorite way of consuming content of my favorite lil guy is the core 5 titans
There is also about 5 billion pieces of media where these 5 interact and some of it sucks so here I am scrapbooking canon together with glue and scissors so I can talk about how I view Dicks relationship with the other OG titans and how different these relationships are from one another while all still being boiled down to found family love
Dick & Donna: Listen. To. Me. These two aren't besties, or fav teammates or siblings. These two are the sun and earth revolving around each other except they each think the other one is the Sun. Dick Grayson and Donna Troy are the blueprint for platonic soulmates. Dick and Donna make everyone around them believe in ancient story by plato "humans once had 4 arms and legs and 2 faces and the God Zeus split them in half for their hubris and now they are destined to roam the earth forever looking for their other half". If y'all think Dick wasn't doing well after Jason died?? Donna Troys death fundamentally changed who Dick Grayson was and how he was written in teams for years. Donna Troy and Dick Grayson absolutely have debated getting platonically married (not canon but it is in my heart) and the only reason they haven't is BC if they do, Donna will kidnap Dick and never let him within 1000 feet of Bruce Wayne and Gotham.
Dick & Roy: remember how I said Dick was fucked up post Troias death in the comics? yeah? Roy Harper is the only reason he made it out of that period of his life alive. These two are like fire and Gasoline, they're quick and angry and always inexplicably near each other. They are VICIOUS with one another in a way they almost never are with anyone else. They try so hard to ruin their relationship bc implicitly they know (unless its the new 52 which I ignore for my own mental wellbeing-hey I did say this was a scrap book of canons) they'll always be there for each other. Roy Harper never misses, Dick Grayson cannot fall and yet Dick is there to hold Roy when his hand trembles and Roy is there to catch Dick when he loses his Grip.
Dick Grayson is the first person Roy calls to get Lian
Roy Harper is the designated keep Dick Grayson alive even if he has to tie the bastard up-
Dick (and wally depending on the run) help Roy with his addiction)
these two are each others roman empires
Dick & Wally: to cut back on the pretentious seriousness of this post. Every time these two are drawn together be it 80s road trips or being the most likeable part of tom Taylors run. Wally west always reads like he's about to invite Dick to swing with him and his wife. If you see them as platonic, romantic (right person wrong time is my favourite Fanon flavour but canonically I like em besties) or somewhere in between Wally West is always Dick Graysons best friend. There is something so wholesome about the fact that Wally canonically stalks checks up on Dick Grayson as much as he does his wife and twins and Dick who is a bat, notorious for expressing their love via breaking into your house and doing your casework for you. Is getting stalked checked up on by someone who loves him without it triggering his "see obviously you're not good enough they're literally babysitting you" paranoia. its like meeting your partners love language needs but its for deeply messed up individuals. They canonically call themselves best friends, and while Dick will always love Roy he always Likes being around Wally (as well as love him but that's a given)
(sidetone are you even besties if people don't think you're dating when they meet you?)
Dick & Garth: The amount of trust, love and respect that tempest holds for Nightwing melts my damn heart (but then again everything garth does melts my damn heart, baby Garth you will always be famous) they are such an underrated pairing and I love the fact that no matter the media, whether they're rivals like in the cartoons or Garth deferring to Dick as leader to the point where he disobeys aquaman (rebirth) Bc yeah THATS how much my purple eyed perfect boy trusts wing. There is always this really sweet understanding that Garth can go to Dick for advice (he asks for Donna advice in titans and advice on his relationship with Dolphin in the comics). And him and Dicks reunion post RIC? I love them sm. Its just... There was also a period of time where Garth was the only titan with sense and tbh sometimes its refreshing to see that when the rest of them (except donna she was dead at the time we never say a bad word about donna in this household) are being fucking insane

Are Katara stans more likely to become Zutara?
To be fair: I also saw Kataangers, other- or non-shippers who care at least a little about Katara and did complain about the nerfing of her character. But stillā€¦maybe it is because of the communities I visit, but it appears to me that most Katara stans are more likely to become Zutara.
The reason I prefer this ship is that Iā€™ve become a Katara stan first. I love every side of her, the loud one precisely, when she stands up for her ideals. And, as for Zutara: There is a deep understanding of each otherā€™s needs along with mutual respect and a special bond those two share with no one else in the Gaang. They are equalsā€”Zuko respects, accepts and loves Katara as a whole, and the same goes the other way around (canon-platonically or headcanon/ship-baiting-romantically doesnā€™t matter).
So, hereā€™s what I donā€™t understand: if someone ships, I would assume they care about both characters and how they fit with each other. Yet, Iā€™ve seen many Kataangers care only about Aang: What Aang wants. What his intensions are. That he is just flawed when he kisses Katara without consentā€¦never how Katara feels about his actions, never how she is presented at the end of the OG, in the comics and in Korra.
RegardingĀ The Southern RaidersĀ in this case: I truly believe that Aang just wants to help, as many Kataangers argue in defense of his behavior. The teachings of the monks helped him during his dark times, plus, he is just a kid. He panicked, bc he thought Katara would follow the same dark path, and didnā€™t know how to express his worries. However, this is also my point against Kataang: HeĀ isĀ just a kid. He still has so much to learn before even thinking about a serious relationship; especially with Katara whom he still sees through rose-tinted glassesā€”including that forgiveness to receive closure is not the right path for everyone.
If you mention this to some Kataangers, even very carefully, they immediately become defensive, saying that itā€™s just about making Zutara look better and demonizing Aang. And donā€™t get me started on the kiss by the end. šŸ™„ Iā€™ve never read anything from them beyond ā€œKatara is clearly happy.ā€ But what makes you think she is happy? No explanation. People who agree with me, showing that they care about Katara, are mostly Zutara- or non-shippers.
Me, on the other hand: I can easily say that Katara has every right to hold a grudge against Zuko afterĀ The Crossroads of Destiny,Ā bc he wronged her the most. Totally understandable that he had to go the extra mile with her to receive her forgiveness. I wonā€™t sugar coat his actions to make him or Zutara look better, so much for their complaintsā€”that isnā€™t necessary anyway. The difference: Zuko stood up for his mistakes, helps Katara to find her closure without asking for forgiveness, even if that is what he hopes. Letā€™s not forget how she opens up to him, even during this process; more than she did to anyone else.
Aangā€™s mistakes werenā€™t that huge, and it would take a scene of maybe a minute or two to truly show the regret of his actions towards Katara.
I believe that if you care about a character like Katara with such huge beliefs and intensions to create a better world, you wouldnā€™t be okay with reducing her to nothing more than an attachment whose world revolves around her boyfriend/husbandā€”or herĀ sweetieĀ *ugh*. Yet, some Aang-stans seem not to care about this side of Katara and really consider her happy when her life is nothing more than pampering her partner.

Alright Iā€™m gonna tell you to take several fucking seats
Iā€™m sorry if my interpretations ļæ¼of fake fun silly fictional characters is different that yours but Jesus Christ chill out maybe?? Itā€™s not like thereā€™s about idk 8 quadrillion different iterations of these characters or smth
In this case it was also Alfred who gave Robin to Tim, which most people would say yeah sure but Bruce ALLOWED it as Batman he ENABLED it. The same way dick did with Damian.
Now saying that it totally makes sense why he did!! As I literally said above it makes sense to give the kid who needs structure Robin and then one who keeps demanding independence independence!! and dick does that cause he ultimately isnā€™t in the place to be An Adult and heā€™s not thinking about all of the nuisances that come with making these choices for children. He may technically be an adult but that doesnā€™t mean his ready to take on parenting kids, and that works with his character not against it.
He treats this situation the way a big brother would Not A Parent or at least not an established parent. Itā€™s also drawn from him seeing robin as Batmanā€™s Son as seeing robin as a sidekick DESPITE demanding robin be an equal partner. In this way he is taking on the responsibility of Damian and trying to allow Tim room to grow. Again it makes sense heā€™s not stupid for doing it!! Thatā€™s what makes it tragic!! Thatā€™s what makes it good writing!! Because he gets to see his dad as a person and his little brother as a child!!! Thatā€™s interesting!!
Not whatever noncharacter bullshit where he just sits I guess??? Doesnā€™t say anything to Tim or Damian about the whole situation?? Just fucking twiddles his damn thumbs??? Like at the very least this gives him agency????? Cmon now
Dick: you wouldā€™ve done the same thing! I Had to take robin away from Tim and give it to Damian!
Bruce: you took it from the child craving independence and gave it to the on that needed structure. I wouldnā€™t have done the same thing- I have already done the thing
Dick: ā€¦
Bruce: whatā€™s Harvey always say, ā€˜you either die a child or live long enough to understand your parentsā€™

author I know you've probably been asked this before but what are your comic recs for understanding ECM better? I genuinely don't know where to start... (-_-")
You know what?! I get asked this a lot less than you'd think!
I use footnotes to make the background in Existential Crisis Mode as accessible as possible, but I'm more than happy to share my reading list!!!
In regards to DC, there's a great deal I'm not counting, but if you're interested, these are my recs!
In terms of core texts related to Jason, there's the following for you to peruse (in order!):
Death in the Family: it contextualises Jason's death (which in the DC revamps like New 52 and Rebirth has since been retconned to a lesser [Rebirth] or greater [N52] degree). I'm working on this as the core events that led to Jason's death.
Red Hood: The Lost Days: an excellent volume, it documents the time between Jason's resurrection (which was NOT via Lazarus Pit as a lot of fanfics claim!) and his return to Gotham as the Red Hood. It's critical for understanding Jason's motivations, his training and personality.
Under the Red Hood: honestly I think this could be watched or read, although Jason's resurrection in the animated version is credited to the Lazarus pit (and Talia Al Ghul is erased from the narrative), so just keep that in mind. BUT Jensen Ackles voices Jason in the animated version which is scrum-diddly-umptious!!! And the opening scene?!?!?! Lives RENT FREE in my head. My GOD it fucks me up!
There are plenty of other comics with Jason in them before first of the Red Hood and the Outlaws were published, but I'll be honest, I've not read them. Largely due to access (I have a friend from work who was kind enough to share their collection with me!). For the purposes of understanding Jason's history, his personality and motivators as a vigilante, the above three are a solid start.
Beyond these, you've got both the New 52 (came first) and then Rebirth runs of Red Hood and the Outlaws.
I'm not the biggest fan of the New 52 run, largely because I Did Not Enjoy the in-your-face sexualisation of Koriand'r, however world-building elements like the All Caste, Jason's magic soul-consuming swords the All Blades (fun fact! They only work on people/creatures of pure evil), along with Jason's friendship with Roy and Kori are of worth!
As the All Blades have already been mentioned in ECM, so there's benefit to checking the New 52 RHATO volumes out. New 52 RHATO is also what birthed my headcanon of Jason being demisexual!
I much preferred the Rebirth RHATO, and Artemis and Bizarro (he's actually a clone of the OG Bizarro) are planned to appear at some point in ECM. A lot of the most recent events in Jason's life from ECM tie back to Rebirth's RHATO, along with Red Hood: Outlaw (which is what the run was called after volume 4), where Jason works mostly alone.
Other DC comics of interest include:
The "We Are Robin" series, "Robin Wars" and "Batman and the Signal": all great for learning more about Duke, but we see all the former Robins working together in "Robin Wars". The events of these volumes/series aren't likely to be used much in ECM, but good for characterisation!
Juni Ba's "The Boy Wonder" is excellent for characterising Damian! He's someone who gets Flanderised about as badly as Jason does in a lot of fanon, so it's nice to be reminded of his complexity!
In regards to Peter and Spider-Man, as he's from the MCU, there's no comics needed to be read for his background. But I WILL say, for reasons I will not disclose, I have read / am in the process of reading through...
Spider-Man: The Other. 'Evolve or Die'
Spider-Verse, Spider-Geddon and End of the Spider-Verse
My first recommendation for any of these comics would be to see if your local library has them!
(Though admittedly, I've purchased quite a few on Kindle, mostly for my own convenience since I'm using it as canon.)

IDK if you've watched the x-men movies- og or first-class stuff- but if you have I'm curious as to your opinion on Charles Xavier/Professor X. Specifically: how would he get on with Edward? What about Carlisle? How woul Magneto/Erik get on with them?
I've seen I think all three of the OG X-Men live action films but it's so long ago I only remember 3 very well (and it was... very not good). I saw X-Men First Class and I think a few of the other reboot X-Mens that were also... not good.
But honestly? Based on those I feel like I just don't have enough to get a grasp of Professor X and Magneto. It doesn't help that this is one of those domains where the comics are very old and people are really into them, so if I just do "well, based on the film" I'm told "ACTUALLY THEY'RE SUPER DIFFERENT IN THE COMICS AND HOW DARE YOU".
But I'll take my best guess.
Professor X and Edward
Charles deals with overemotional and overly powerful teens who cause problems all the fucking time. He's dealt with ones who have caused a lot of damage, sometimes intentionally and sometimes not, so I feel like to Charles Edward is another kid in need of help. Does he need help? Absolutely, this boy is clearly traumatized by being turned into a vampire/the nature of his existence and his temptation for blood among other things. However, he's not unique and certainly not more terrifying than dealing with a preteen Jean Gray.
I actually think Edward would really like Charles. Yes, it's annoying he's more powerful than Edward (being basically able to do what Aro does, but from a distance, and able to control people's thoughts) but he's the kind of guy Edward would really like. He has all the power in the world but rarely if ever chooses to use it and when he does it's with a lot of justification to himself of why he has to erase these memories or make someone do this thing, usually with the safety of others in mind. He's well-spoken, earnest, has dedicated his life to helping gifted children the world has shunned and is able to offer Edward advice.
For all Edward would argue he's older than Charles, I do think Charles could glide into that mentor-like position (especially since he has, canonically, for older characters such as Logan).
Charles in turn I imagine would be a good mentor for Edward who would both a) actually understand what he's thinking and going through because of the telepathy and b) being a voice of sanity Edward can choose to confide in.
Professor X and Carlisle
I imagine Charles... understands why Carlisle has turned these people, that Carlisle meant well, and that Carlisle was driven by a profound loneliness when he did so. He doesn't approve and Carlisle should absolutely stop, these people did not consent to become vampires and not all of them are happy being so, but he gets that Carlisle is ultimately human (humanoid) and can be expected to make mistakes/be driven by emotion.
Beyond that, I imagine the pair would get on great as, again, Charles is a person that actually reads your mind at the bone deep level and so you actually have to confront shit. And we know Carlisle was cool enough with Aro to stay in Volterra for twenty years, so he's fine with the general mind reading and I think would get on fairly well.
Unless Charles is in his bitchy heroin addicted phase he was in for that one movie.
Edward and Magneto
Nope.
See, the trouble is Edward gets Magneto's philosophy a little too much.
It's not the same at all, but Carlisle's philosophy is very in Professor X's line of thought: yes, even though there are bad humans who do bad, that does not justify our eating them or make us 'good' by doing so.
This is not entirely dissimilar to Charles's: yes, the humans often treat mutants and anyone with the label 'other', like complete dogshit, not limited to horrific murder, but that does not mean that we can target the general population of humans out of self-defense or kill them all and leave only 'pure' mutants.
Edward would see far too much of himself in Magneto's: we are absolutely justified in kicking the humans out of power/dismantling their entire system because they've done a shit job of everything for thousands of years and are always treating mutants and 'other' as shit.
Magneto's not eating humans, and Magneto often pumps the breaks when things get too spicy in X-Men land (from what I've seen he's never full "KILL THEM ALL" and usually ends up having to side with the X-Men with a pouty face when the other villain goes too far), and it's not really equivalent to Edward's self-justification for giving into desire but it'd be close enough that Edward would hate it because he hates what he himself did.
As for Magneto, he sees Edward as another overpowered self-righteous and seriously misled teen. Boy, he's seen a lot of those.
Magneto and Carlisle
It's like Charles the vampire but worse because he's turning these stupid kids into crystal death machines and then telling them not to give into natural instinct, starve themselves like monks, when they were by design made to feed off human blood.
"JUST EAT, YOU DUMB PEOPLE" I imagine Magneto screams at them in despair. The humans can handle it. Nobody's winning an award for these people nobly starving themselves and in Erik's humble opinion there's a lot of people who should kick the bucket.
It'd be stupid if Carlisle was doing it only to himself, but it's downright horrible that he's bringing these kids into it, and especially that none of them had any say in it.
Erik thinks this guy is a piece of shit.

I find it really funny that people take a panel out of any comic to say "see?? X is not like fanon says, actually he is like this". Bestie, the first thing I've learned from DC is that canon's fucked. Not in the sense that it's bad (sometimes it is), but in the sense that is inconsistent at best.
I'm talking about Batfam right now, so the thing is people want to say x or y robin was the chaotic one and... They all are. They all are very polite or absolute menaces. And It's a staple of the genre. Obviously if you read Tim's run as robin or his comics you're gonna get the impression that he is the main character. Just the coolest, most nuanced, goes through every single event ever kind of character. But if you read Dick's comics...surprise! He is also the smartest coolest funniest robin ever. And omg isn't Jason traumatized when you read his story? But also isn't Steph even more so? Or Cass?
Jason's og backstory was so similar to Dick's they had to change it. Like sure they give each robin/batfam their own traits and backstory, but they also end up with really similar abilities/going through similar events a lot of the time. And personality wise it's not much better because you would think that's one of the things they'd want to keep stable but no.
Tim swings wildly between Batman's most obedient good little soldier and feral child that lies to his face. The evolution sometimes is non existent or not coherent with the plot but that's because a new writer picked it up and he doesn't want to focus on that. Even their unique characteristics get fucked around in canon. Paraphrasing "the characters will do what the writer wants them to do".
If you're afraid of misrepresenting the character I would fall back on these core traits and build up from them. As long as you keep that in mind it's gonna be more canon compliant than some parts of canon. I'm also big on "let people fuck around with fanon" because truly, I might hate some interpretations of the characters...but it's not like it's canon. That's someone playing dolls with a comic character, who cares? I say let them. Simply don't engage if you dislike it.

Hi! Feel free to ignore this but I thought Iā€™d ask:
Do you have any comic recs for someone getting into Roy Harper? Very into Dickroy but want to learn more about Roy and where he came from and what his deal is etc etc
hey!! I can definitely help with that. roy harper my best friend forever <333
i am definitely not as well versed in his og speedy appearances alongside ollie (<- Girl Who Is Ignorant Of The Silver Age) but i think if you're interested in his early years the original teen titans '66 series is fun! there is also a really cute story about early ollie & roy published in dc's saved by the belle reve called 'earn it back' that i'd recommend.
you have doubtless heard of snowbirds don't fly (green lantern v. 2 #85), which. yeah. it is what it is. it's very hard to understand roy's story without reading it so it's kind of a must, but. y'know. keeping in mind the context of the time and everything. i would very much recommend reading the story 'green man and autumn son' from the green arrow 80th anniversary super spectacular after reading snowbirds; it's basically the story of sdf but from roy's perspective this time and it's like essential reading for roy imo.
next big thing would probably be new teen titans vol. 2 #19-21, which is where he finds out he's a dad for the first time!! very exciting! directly after that i'd read the cheshire contract arc (action comics #613-618), a very fun arc where roy actually gets to keep lian. plus dickroy! i would also recommend the arc rocks and hard places (action comics #627-634) which i think gets sometimes overlooked despite basically continuing on directly from cheshire contract. roy looking out for random irish orphans my beloved<3
specifically for ollie and roy's relationship i'd rec green arrow vol. 2 #75 (MY BELOVED), and the archer's quest (#16-21) arc from green arrow vol. 3! really really good stuff. 'you're a good dad roy harper/so are you ollie' augh.
next thing chronologically would be roy's new titans run, i think from around #97-130. this is where roy actually got to lead the titans, and it's an era that not a lot of people remember lol. the series was on its very last legs at that point but it's very cool to see roy in a leadership role!
arsenal (1998) is probably the biggest rec i have. beloved beloved comic. Roy In A Nutshell, four issues of pure gold. batman plus arsenal is also just one issue but very fun and a good look at roy!
titans (1999) is an obvious pick but like. it's so good. such good roy content. donnaroy i love you forever
and yeah if you're a dickroy fan then i shouldn't even have to mention outsiders (2003). The Dickroy Bible
OH almost forgot justice league of america vol. 2, around the first half of it! especially #6 has a REALLY good roy moment. red arrow!roy my best friend
i hope that's a good roy harper starter pack!!

I read up on Spirit World to learn more about Xanthe and naturally I was curious with how Johnstantine was written. The story is,,,on the spectrum of "alright" to "okay" for me. I'm of the same opinion of most Hellblazer readers who think "oh that's neat, I wish Constantine was in it though" (it's quippy DC!Constantine, not much to write home about). But I'm also in a unique position when reading this comic. I consider myself a Vertigo Hellblazer purist for the most part but I can't deny the appeal Spirit World has for someone like me.
As much as I love and enjoy reading through og Hellblazer, there is a level of inaccessibility for someone like me reading it. Sometimes I take long breaks from reading Hellblazer because I get frankly fed up with outdated racist moments or arcs. Maybe Johnstantine says or does something racist that puts me in a bad mood from reading. So a story that says "John Constantine hangs out with a new Chinese nonbinary hero" is very appealing for someone like me.
I was hoping to feel catharsis reading Spirit World, seeing so much of my identities in a story and John Constantine interacting with it. But it didn't meet my expectations. I don't think DC!Constantine could give me that. If I'm honest, Constantine really didn't need to be in this story. For the record, this isn't me wanting Vertigo!Constantine to be racist to Xanthe or anything, of course I don't want that. I was hoping for more human moments of recognition. Especially queer solidarity. It felt very surface level for me. Maybe I can do something about that.
Can't outdo the art though ARE YOU KIDDING ME HOLY COW

I have no context for liger pups. Is sacker someone we are meant to know, or is it spoilers?
. . . I apologize in advance for how long I let this explanation get, lol.
Sacker is a minor antagonist from the arc that this WIP is a canon divergence of, and he's one of the beast-men in the Wild Lands. Specifically, he is a giant old snake dude who runs a huge storehouse/trading post/fortress type thing, and he was the guy who initially enslaved and drugged Kon into his feral/depowered state when he crash-landed in the Wild Lands after Sacker also, like, literally shot him out of the sky. He does that to literally every single human who washes up on shore, because he is the only person in the Wild Lands who has ever actually met a human who was in their right mind and after that experience he immediately decided that humans should not be allowed to have their right minds anymore.
In his defense: HUMANS.
The mark Panthera is referencing Kon drawing is Sacker's slave mark, which he puts on all his humans via differently-shaped pendants. Kon's version of it looked a bit like the S-shield, so Kon was attached to it when he was feral and wouldn't originally let Sacker take it back. See: below. Therefore, Panthera doesn't realize he is actually NOT drawing Sacker's mark.

In the original arc (it's like issues 50-54 of Kon's OG solo title, I belieeeeeve it's called "Last Boy On Earth" or something like that), he agreed to sell Superboy to Prince Tuftan in exchange for a historical artifact, as long as Tuftan agreed to keep giving Superboy regular doses of his serum. At the time Tuftan did not know humans were actually, like, PEOPLE, and thought he was just agreeing to sedate a wild animal to keep it controllable. Superboy was a few days out from his last dose of serum, though, and when Tuftan forgot to bring the drugs to put into his dinner and a mercenary attacked the king while he ran back for them, Superboy got his adrenaline up enough to burn through enough of the remaining drugs to remember how to talk and also, like, break his restraints and smash said mercenary through a wall, which kiiiiinda blew the lid off the whole "totally just a wild animal" lie. This AU is one where Tuftan did not forget to bring the drugs, and Superboy has as a result been in the Wild Lands ever since.
Issue 50 of that run was actually the first Superboy comic I ever read and my first introduction to the character, so I have a serious soft spot for the arc and I just could NOT resist writing something related to it when I got enabled to, haha.
For the record, this is Sacker:

And THESE are Tuftan and Tawna:

And they totally introduced themselves to Kon as a couple by making out literally a foot away from him while Tuftan had him tied up and collared on a leash AND on his knees.
Look, if I were feral(and-definitely-repressed-bisexual-probably-also-a-furry-by-now-lbr)!Kon, I would ALSO pick being a pet to the buff and noble tiger-prince who wanted to give me to his badass scantily-clad lioness fiancee over being enslaved by the morally dubious prick who shot me, drugged me, AND stole my sick leather jacket. Like, no question!! No question whatsoever!!!!
