Noticed recently that there’s a lack of poly content on this blog and low key I’m shocked but then again I don’t imagine that there’s alot of poly content demand in this fan base but whatever I think it’s time to suggest the idea of a reader with two hands and those hands are for Daniil and artemy why pick one hottie healer when you can have both? Especially when said healers already have homoerotic tension with eachother! This is either going to be the most unstable polycule ever or shockingly calm one there’s really no in between in my opinion

I get that the fandom plays on their rivalry for funsies and all but they're actually friends in canon, aren't they? They hold a begrudging amount of respect to one another and would've gotten along wasn't it for the families in powers toying with them like puppets on a string.
I mean Daniil was looking forward to meeting Artemy in a way, Isidor wasn't just an acquaintance to him but a dear colleague. Daniil held admiration for him and described him as selfless and kind hearted, Dankovsky actually complimenting someone!?
Daniil's problem is with the town and not Artemy or Menkhu's ways, Artemy just adores this town above all and took it personally. Otherwise, both of them always acknowledged how skilled the other healer is.
Then the whole murder thing happened, and it gave Daniil a false bad impression, leaving a bad taste in his mouth since Isidor was his friend.
They wouldn't be at each other's throats in a love triangle is what I'm saying, absolutely the opposite in a poly relationship even.
You'd have a harder time tearing them off of one another without them persuading you into joining, Daniil's honeyed words coaxing you, Artemy's heavy gaze undressing you.
A poly with them wouldn't be unstable or always calm, it will certainly have a strong foundation and a lively atmosphere.
Daniil wants his time alone? Artemy will keep you company instead.
Artemy is too overbearing? Daniil will keep him occupied while you get your personal time.
It's hard to feel neglected with Artemy and even harder to feel suffocated with Daniil. They balance each other out, they agree to disagree on certain things while their interests overlap on another.
They're absolutely unstoppable together, good luck winning anymore arguments if the two of them decided to team up or put their mind into something.
But they also share drastically different tastes and prefer contrasting lifestyles. Daniil wants the fame and recognition, he wants to live at the heart of the capital and keep up with the cutting edge technology. The conferences and galas, the upper crust society he wishes to mingle with just for a chance to spread the word about Thanatica even more.
While Artemy doesn't try to impress or appease anyone, he doesn't have anything to prove and couldn't care less about the legality of him preforming medicine. He has all this skill and knowledge which he will gladly put to use on anyone who asks for his help, no payment required in return. He wants a domestic quaint life in his hometown while he walks the footsteps of his father.
That's the one thing the two of them will always disagree about, and there are only so many weekly train rides between the two locations you can endure before it starts making you sick.
Artemy would want you closer in a way? He wants you involved in his life, in Sticky and Murky's life. His kids are part of him, it's a package deal.
While Daniil wouldn't only getting a fraction of your time, he is gentle with children but treats them as... children rather than humans or future adults. While nice, he won't form any deeper connections with them, more akin to an uncle than a parent.
The logistics of making it work will be very hard, not because of their personalities, they get along very well, but because of their contrasting lifestyles and differing ambitious.
The most tension between them there will ever be is when Artemy keeps making scrambled eggs while Daniil huffs and gets up to make his own sunny side eggs since that brute clearly can't follow instructions while Artemy rolls his eyes because once a Capital dandy will always be a Capital dandy huh Danya.

the boruto ships randomly came to my head. many think there’s a love triangle and insist it’s BoruSumi vs BoruSara… but it’s seems the love triangle isn’t Sumire-Boruto-Sarada like we all thought, but Sumire-Boruto-Mitsuki and honestly, that makes so much more sense when you really think about it
it’s been confirmed multiple times that sumire is in love with boruto. her feelings are canon and she plays the role of the love heroine (shonen tend to have two heroines. one is the main heroine and the other the love heroine. like sakura and hinata were in naruto). there is no debate here. sumire loves boruto
sarada’s been asked three times already if she likes boruto and the girl always denies it. her response never changes. it’s consistent. when sumire asked her about her feelings, sarada said she does not like boruto, this made sumire confident enough to admit she does like boruto. sarada is the closest girl to boruto. it makes sense she’s her main competition and would ask her how she feels about the guy she’s interested in. when mitsuki asked her about her feelings for boruto, she not only dismissed the question, she also turned it back on him and said he’s the one whose eyes light up when he sees boruto. when eida asked her, sarada doesn’t even answer and lies (literally lies during this entire conversation) about eida’s enchantment ability to not answer. not just that, but a bit prior to asking her this, sarada literally thinks the entire romance topic is dumb

sarada literally has zero interest in romance. there’s no other way to put it. there is no deeper meaning or “reading between the lines”. what we see is what we get and exactly what it means
now let’s talk about mitsuki here. he said he wouldn’t know what he’d do to the person if they hurt boruto

and was the one who brought up the question to sarada. asking her about her feelings and instead, she says her wanting to help boruto has nothing to do with her feelings. literally shutting any questions about romance down. mitsuki then asked if it’s hard to know your own feelings. this tells us he is internally trying to understand his own feelings, and it’s when sarada tells him his eyes light up when he sees boruto

a few chapters later mitsuki is affected by eida’s enchantment ability and he wonders what that feeling is as he’s never experienced it. mitsuki doesn’t understand human emotions. not 100% anyway and is learning about it as the series progresses. mitsuki asking sarada about her feelings for boruto and being told he’s the one whose eyes light up and then feeling a certain emotion for the first time ever could be a hint to his own feelings for boruto
really thinking about it, i’m starting to believe many of us have been seeing this manga wrong the entire seven years it’s been going. i always see ship wars between boruto x sumire vs boruto x sarada… when in reality we’re wrong here. this isn’t sumire-boruto-sarada, it’s sumire-boruto-mitsuki. and seeing as we already have a nonbinary character (orochimaru) in the narutoverse, it should be no surprise if mitsuki doesn’t care for gender regarding himself and his potential romantic partner
now i’ll touch a bit of boruto x sarada since it’s the most popular ship and i know many will be quick to point out their interactions. truth is, with the amount of times she’s been asked if she likes boruto and never confirming things, it kind of throws sarada out the window as a potential lover for boruto in the future. they’re really close and good friends that care about each other. if anything, they’re more like family since it’s the way their parents (naruto and sasuke) bonded (like brothers). then why are they always asking sarada if she has feelings for boruto?? the answer is simple. it’s as simple as throwing a bone to the shippers to keep them in. with the manga’s sales not being very good and declining with each release, everyone knows the only people who will see this manga to the end are shippers just to see if their ship is canon, so the writers have to find a way to keep them in. it’s really that simple

you know it's funny because in a way, bella and edward are perfect for each other. so i kind of get bella x edward - because of how stephenie wrote their characters * - but in a more obvious way (in which i view the relationships through MY perspective and not bella's) i also don't. in the sense of the love triangle, i know i personally, with 100% certainty, would be much more favorable to jacob's down-to-earth brand of love and style than edward's rich white boy shit. (honestly it screams "i've never gotten my hands dirty a day in my life" which is so unattractive in a man imo but anyways). but ALSO - while i am "team jacob" (or as much as you can take a side all things considering), i just.... i realize that i wouldn't want bella to end up with jacob. like the bella in my head who is NOT written by smeyer would be meant for him, but the bella in canon whose very thoughts are influenced by how smeyer views Natives is..... uh uh. and tbh, while jacob could be a steadying, healthier choice for her, i don't necessarily see her being that for him at all. he helped pull her out of a bad place mentally in new moon, but she just got him embroiled so much deeper in the vampiric shit than he already was and (im not even trying to be harsh when i say this but) fucked up his life even further. so actually... for canon bella, i think i would want her to be gone with edward and let jacob live his damn life, even though ik im actually "team jacob".

Jughead (2015), Issues 7-8: Discussion and Commentary
Boy oh boy am I excited to talk about this arc!! These two issues hold a very special place in my cold little aro heart.

Fed up with him sitting around the house playing video games all summer, Mr. Jones forces Jughead to get out of the house and do something outside. Jughead finds Archie at the pool where he’s working as a lifeguard, and convinces him to take time off to go camping in the woods with him at their friend Dilton’s cottage.
They take Archie’s car out to the woods, only to find that the lake is overrun with Reggie’s over-the-top relatives at the Mantle family reunion. Horrified, Jughead and Archie go out on a hike to get away. This is where things go downhill—literally.
Jughead calls Archie out for his growing fixation with Veronica Lodge, whose father is the one trying to clear out Fox Forest. Archie immediately goes on the defensive, but Jughead, understandably, really doesn’t get it. And here’s where we see that this is a divide that has been brewing between them for quite some time, even if Archie seemingly had no idea it was happening.

The boys end up getting lost, which only serves to fuel their frustrations. It occurs to Jughead, some time later, that the lake they’re camping at is not that far from Camp Lucey, an all-girls summer camp. Shocked and hurt, he accuses Archie of only agreeing to go on the trip to pick up girls, and not to hang out with him. He tackles Archie and they tumble down a hill into the woods below.

This is a really interesting story, from an aro’s perspective. Jughead can’t relate to Archie’s teenage obsession with girls, and it isn’t something they can bond over like other friends may have been able to do. On a simple level, all Jughead really wants to do is hang out with his best friend, just the two of them, just like old times—back when they were younger, before Archie’s interest in girls seemed to take over his every waking moment. Importantly, Jughead never objects to Archie’s romantic pursuits on principle (he does have an issue with Veronica, but that has to do more with her father’s actions than her). It isn’t that he wants to stand in the way of Archie’s happiness—he just feels left behind, and that’s something I think a lot of aromantic people, teenagers especially, can resonate with.
Eventually, Archie and Jughead run into Mr. Weatherbee of all people, who begrudgingly offers to help lead them back to camp. It’s at this point that we get one of my favorite moments in the entire series, one that I have waxed poetic about on this blog before and probably will again.

Archie insists that he is in fact here to hang out with Jughead, and that he’s just being dramatic. Jughead, on the other hand, insists that Archie’s the one being dramatic with his love triangle problems, to which Archie replies:
“Look, I’m not going to apologize for being a normal guy, I—”
And Jughead’s reaction to those words has stuck with me since the first time I read this. He’s shocked, hurt, and clearly a little angry that Archie would say something like that. And it’s a subtle moment, one that you might not even feel the gravity of if you didn’t know that Jughead was aro. What’s most important here, though, isn’t Jughead’s reaction, but the fact that Archie is clearly in the wrong, and he knows it. He tries to backtrack immediately (“Jughead! I didn’t mean it like that! Wait!”), but Jughead ignores him, as Mr. Bee has already gotten them lost again.
This singular page is, to me, a deeper and more nuanced portrayal than many works with “on-the-page” canon aromantic characters. This arc isn’t about Jughead being aro (in fact, none of the comics particularly are). But this is a meaningful incorporation of Jughead’s orientation into his daily life and his relationships with other people—namely, with his best friend. Although Jughead is being somewhat harsh with Archie, never does the narrative place him in the wrong for feeling abandoned, hurt, or angry because of Archie’s words and actions. Even Archie, his best friend, is capable of saying things that hurt him, and his words in this scene are never excused or justified by the narrative.

It also means a lot to me that Archie apologizes the second he gets the chance to, and that Jughead is quick to forgive him and explain that he just misses the time before Archie was so obsessed with girls. I wouldn’t want the story to just turn into a feud between them. You know when you’re on a trip with your friends and you get lost and you’re tired and frustrated you just end up airing your grievances and coming out of it with a new understanding of your friendship while trying to solve the mess you’re in? That’s what this arc is.
Anyway, after a run-in with Reggie’s relative and Mr. Weatherbee’s old high school bully Ted Mantle, the trio manage to make it out of the woods—after several hours of walking until the sun has come up. There, they find that Camp Lucey has actually been renamed, and is now a camp for elementary school girls, where Betty happens to be working. So after all of that, Archie just ends up making a fool of himself, like usual. Mr. Bee’s wife drives over to rescue them and brings the boys back to Dilton’s cottage, where she remarks that she’s heard a lot about Archie and Jughead, and that they’re inseparable.

At its core, this is a story about friendship. It’s about the difficulties that come with realizing you can’t always relate to each other, and you can’t always read each other’s minds, and you sometimes say the wrong thing without meaning to. It’s a story about growing up, but not necessarily growing apart, and being able to reconcile your differences.
Archie assumes that after all of their bickering, Jughead would just want to go home and not hang out with him anymore. But turning back now would be contrary to what Jughead wanted in the first place, which was just to hang out with his best friend.

All’s well that end’s well, and Jughead and Archie patch things over and vow that they will always be best friends. It’s a wholesome moment, and reflects a common struggle for aspec teens that I rarely see addressed in media, if at all. Sometimes, it feels like your friends are all moving on without you, and sometimes they don’t even realize it when they’ve been neglecting your friendship. It takes communication to work these things out, and I’m happy to see that illustrated here.
This arc is my favorite, I think, and there’s reasons for that even outside of the aspects I’ve already detailed here. The kids getting lost in the woods on summer vacation is a fun way of framing the deeper story, and there are a lot of funny and endearing moments in these two issues. (Archie falls on his face, a lot, and Mr. Weatherbee is stoically exasperated with both of their antics.)
These are the last issues written by Chip Zdarsky. So shoutout to him for some of the most nuanced representations of aromanticism in fiction to date, even if he never wrote the word down on the page (I’ll get to that, don’t worry). But these are the first issues illustrated by Derek Charm, whose art style I love (no offense Erica Henderson), and the rest of the volume has a lot of other good aro moments in store. why do you ship brary?
Hi, thank you so much for asking this! this response ended up being much longer than I anticipated upon, so the full, way too long answer is below the cut! But, in case you’re curious and don’t feel like reading my essay, then:
TL;DR: Unlike Mary’s canon love interests post-Matthew, Tom is a firmly established character who the audience was already invested in, they understand the pain of losing a spouse far too soon, I love a good friends-to-lovers trope, you can see in canon how much they genuinely care for one another, Michelle Dockery and Allen Leech have great onscreen chemistry which initially led me to believe the relationship would eventually lead to romance, and up until S6E8, I was fully convinced that they would be a couple by the end of the series because of the ways in which the scenes were written.
So to answer this question, I kind of had to think about how I first came to ship Brary because when I was watching the show as it aired, I was 100% anti-Brary! In fact, it wasn’t until I was a few chapters into writing Come Alive that I actually started shipping them, because that mostly just started off as an experiment! Mary and Matthew were my favorite couple (and still are!) but I did have a soft spot for Sybil and Tom as well, and I absolutely devastated by Sybil and Matthew’s deaths.
And when S4 rolled around and I watched it for the first time, I hated the thought of Mary moving on— I wasn’t thrilled about Tom potentially moving on, either, but he had more time to grieve and while I did like him, I wasn’t as invested in his plot lines as I was Mary’s. My biggest fear was that, because they were both single now, that Julian Fellowes would pair them together which just felt wrong to me. I was 100% actively rooting against it. In my mind at the time, the best ending of show would have had Mary remaining unmarried.
But much to my dismay, it seemed like that was going to happen. Sure, there Mary’s romances with Tony and Charles, but even though she had that love triangle scenario going on with them and Tom had his romance with Sarah Bunting, there were all these moments where it felt like they were deliberately being pushed together— from Violet inviting them to her house to encourage Tom to educate Mary on the running of the estate so she could have an active role in it to playing with their children in the nursery. I hated the idea of them together but there seemed to be all these hints in the narrative that suggested to me that they’d eventually end up together— like some of their deeper conversations in S5 where Mary said that his leaving would be a dagger in her heart and those seemingly longing looks they would give one another, so it definitely felt like Julian Fellowes was giving us a slow burn romance.
And I think some of that was (completely inadvertently) due to Michelle Dockery and Allen Leech’s real life friendship. I’m by no means a professional, but I’ve been acting since I was six years old and I was once cast opposite one of my closest male friends. There was never at any point anything romantic between us and he was the closest thing I had to a brother, and we were both very, very uncomfortable with having to play romantic partners— but because we were such good friends, our real life familiarity manifested itself in onstage chemistry that lent itself well to portraying a romantic relationship. And I definitely think that’s what happened in a lot of these scenes with Tom and Mary, because so many of those scenes managed to seem to have this undercurrent of deeper, romantic feelings to them… which I am 100% was a complete accident, but combined with the dialogue, it just really gave off that vibe of two people who were secretly in love but too afraid to actually vocalize it yet.
Furthermore, I find the way Julian Fellowes writes romance to be incredibly obvious. Even though the characters might not necessarily professing their love for one another straight away, it was always easy to pick up on who had feelings for who almost immediately, especially in the first seasons— like Anna and Bates in their very first scene, Sybil and Tom talking enthusiastically about their political interests the first time they’re alone together, Carson’s worries about Mrs. Hughes accepting Joe Burns’s proposal, etc. So since it seemed like he was building up this relationship between Tom and Mary, so while I was very unhappy about it, I was resigned to the fact that it was going to happen.
There were so moments where I was watching the show and preparing myself for them to get together. I thought Mary might suddenly reveal she had deeper feelings for Tom near the end of S5 to prevent him from moving away to America. But then he did leave, S6 was announced, and Henry Talbot was introduced as a love interest for Mary. Since I knew there was no way Tom was gone for good, my prediction was revised to Henry Talbot being the final obstacle standing between them, and the series would eventually conclude with them together in some capacity. And this idea seemed to be more and more reinforced by Tom returning, some of their conversations (like Tom asking if she regretted getting rid of her suitors and her coyly replying “No”, and then their conversation about how love and marriage need to be a relationship between two equally matched partners as they were literally acting as partners as co-agents on the estate, Mary telling Tom that she wasn’t serious about Henry), and Henry not reentering Mary’s life until after Tom’s return and thus setting him up as a rival for Tom… it just felt like Julian Fellowes was beating us over the head with hint after hint after hint that Tom and Mary was going to happen, whether I liked it or not. Then there was the car accident at Brooklands and that seemed to be the final nail in the coffin for Mary and Henry’s relationship, so after Mary broke it off with him, I braced myself for Tom/Mary endgame within the last two episodes.
So… needless to say, I was stunned by the end of S6E8. I could elaborate much, much further on my interpretation of the episode at that time (I definitely can elaborate on that in case anyone is interested, I just don’t want to derail this further than I already have!), but there was just so much that suggested this episode was going to be the one where I’d have to face my fear and watch Tom and Mary profess their undying love for one another— every single scene with them just seemed to suggest that was the direction it was going, especially since Tom literally told Mary in the midst of an argument that the reason he was interfering because he loved her and wanted her to be happy (and to which Mary told him that he had “a bloody odd way of showing it” and sounded exactly like a woman who was growing increasingly bitter with the fact the man she loved was continuing to insist she be with another man). And after watching Henry tell Mary that he was going to make throwing him over be as “hard and horrible as possible” and yelling at her in that commanding tone as she ran up the stairs after her accused her of being a gold digger, I figured it was an attempt to villainize Henry and further solidify Tom as her love interest. When Violet made her return and said, "Tom says that he is in love with you and that you are in love with him,” I sincerely thought the he and him in question were Tom, not Henry. The fact that she married Henry at the end of the episode genuinely felt like a plot twist to me at the time and while I wasn’t exactly enthralled by their marriage, I do remember being relieved my suspicions regarding a Tom and Mary romance were proven incorrect.
But then a few years went by and while I was doing a rewatch of Downton Abbey ahead of the first movie, I kept seeing all those hints again and now that the sting of losing Matthew didn’t cut so deep anymore… honestly, I felt like I’d been made a fool of because I really had been convinced that they were going to be together. I noticed even more cues the more I rewatched it, and by that point Mary had become my favorite character of the show (before then, it was Thomas, and I’d say he comes in a very close second place) and I was just completely unsatisfied in her ending. I will maintain my initial wish of her remaining single would have probably been the most narratively satisfying ending possible for her (and I can delve into that in a different post if anyone is interested!) but at the same time, I don’t want her to be alone for the rest of her life, especially since she has so much ahead of her, and she did say that she wanted to marry again… but by this rewatch, I really wasn’t into Henry.
And it was just around this time that I began thinking about how having Tom as her love interest would have worked so much better; firstly, he is an established, fully fleshed out character who we’ve had a chance to know since S1. He does undergo a lot of change later in the series, but we see how it develops. The audience is invested in him and his storylines, and had he and Mary been together, we would have cared about him for who he was rather than his relationship to Mary. He has ties to nearly every character on the show, both upstairs and downstairs— perhaps even more so than other characters, if only because he was a part of the downstairs until he married Sybil. He has complexity and relationships separate from Mary that are unique to his own character— and he was incredibly underutilized in S6 because essentially his entire storyline was tied to Mary and her love life— which would have made more sense if he was her love interest but instead he’s playing matchmaker.
Secondly, he, of all people, would understand the kind of grief and loss she has endured because he has gone through exactly the same thing. Another critical part of this for me is that he knew Matthew and he loved him as a part of his family— and vice versa when it comes to Mary with Sybil. They also had the challenges of raising children without their deceased spouses and scenes like the one in the nursery in S4 just how much that bond alone means to them… and they obviously adore one another’s children, too.
I also happen to really love friends-to-lovers as a trope, so since they are best friends, it makes sense that I would eventually come to appreciate them as a romantic pairing as well. I definitely don’t think this works for every pairing of best friends and I don’t believe every male-female friendship needs to turn into something romantic, but with the factors I already listed (as well as the fact it really seemed like there was more than just friendship being hinted), I really loved the idea of it evolving something beyond being platonic, especially after they’d both endured the same sort of hardships.
That being said, as such close friends, I love how they’re always thinking of the other and they are each other’s biggest supporters. Even though Mary wasn’t exactly thrilled by his and Sybil’s relationship, it’s clear that by the time he returns to Downton for her and Matthew’s wedding that any resentments she might have had are gone completely and she’s one of the first people to welcome him and do it without unintentionally alienating him. She’s one of his biggest defenders in S3, along with Matthew, continually reminding her grandmother to call him “Tom” instead of “Branson”, she was beyond pleased when Matthew decided to make him the best man at their wedding, and though she greatly sympathized with her father, she was firmly on Tom’s side when it came to the christening… and of course we can’t forget how she enlisted Thomas to humiliate the butler at Brancaster who kept snubbing Tom. Furthermore, he’s always concerned about her and her best interests as well. He’s the one who recognizes that letting her wallow in her grief won’t help her in the long run and, despite their fraught relationship, goes to Carson because he knows that he can get through to her. He also encourages Mary to be active in the running of the estate and once he returns, he doesn’t want to step on her toes… and I could list just so many other moments as well. Of course, all of these things are also evidence of their platonic friendship, but it’s still a part of why I love their dynamic with one another.
Overall, I just think they’re compatible in so many ways, and the fact that I could see the potential they had even when I didn’t want them to be together just speaks to how wonderful a couple they would have made!

On Itachi, his fandom, and moral standpoints
Once again I come back with a meta, unsurprisingly, of Naruto’s manga and, more specifically, about a character in particular, Uchiha Itachi, his fandom and what it entails and represents. My decision to make him the primary focus of this meta is just to bring light (open the door for more in depth debates) of a deeper, much more complicated problem that Itachi represents, but undoubtedly surpasses him and the Naruto manga as a whole.
Be warned, my take on Itachi’s fandom does not contemplate those fans who merely enjoy him but do not negate important parts of his character, if that’s your particular case, then be assured that I did not have you in my mind when writing this. This is about, let’s say, the hardcore fandom he possesses, that justifies (and to some extent, celebrates) his implications in the UCM and blindfold loyalty to Konoha and its system.
How can I even begin to introduce Itachi’s character? What he was supposed to be and what he surprisingly became? How to start to explain his fenomenon? Itachi was not supposed to be good, from his introduction he was a manipulative, dark character that tortured physically and mentally Sasuke and was a threat to Naruto’s (the protagonist) life. At no point during the first part of the manga were we able to see glimpses of a “good” Itachi that the narrative later on tried to establish, and yet, there were three (conected) factors of imperative importance to understand the raise of his character from the first part of the manga to the other. 
The first one was, let’s call it, his intrinsecal persona's appeal (and everything it encompases).
Itachi’s not the first cryptic male character that gets favored by a large part of the fandom for that mere trait (look at any shönen or show and see how many characters whose sole trait is to be mysterious becomes the fandom’s favorite), added to the fact that he’s powerful enough to subdue men who’s status of geniuses are often highlighted in the manga (Orochimaru and Kakashi), and his... physical charm, you have a powerful combo to make readers incline more and more on his favor. Itachi had sparked their interest. 
There are boxes to fill to attract the public interest to a character, and Itachi filled in all of them. 
The Power-Mystery-Beauty triangle is not an unknown formula (Christian Gray, Edward Cullen, to name characters from mainstream, from other manga there is Light, now surprisingly, Dabi) and in every fiction work it has appeared, it worked to lure the (female) public towards it.
But is that enough? For some, yes, for most, Itachi represents something that they desired profoundly, and that’s entirely attached to Sasuke’s character.
Even back in the first part of the manga, Sasuke’s character was received mixedly, there were people who saw his personality as too abrasive (similar to Itachi’s but because Sasuke was supposed to be with the nice guys, this aspect of him clashed rather harshly with his position on the narrative) and considered him a mere emo who believed himself to be better than Naruto and Sakura (he was, but he also acknowledged this fact, which make some readers disapprove of him even more). 
Itachi challenged that “so-called” superiority, additionally downgrading and humiliating him in a way readers felt he, to some extent, deserved. The dislike of part of the fandom of Sasuke’s character found a way of purchase inside the manga. Naruto wasn’t strong enough (and eventually cared too much) to subdue Sasuke, Sakura was too in awe with him to “stand up against him”, Kakashi saw his greatness and taught him powerful jutsus while paying zero attention to his other students. Until Itachi, no other character seemed to put Sasuke “in his place”, because even the villains of each arc seemed particularly obsessed with Sasuke and Sasuke only, elevating even more his importance and status and sidelining Naruto and (of course), Sakura, who were left with mere participations in what seemed a Sasuke-focused plot. Up at this point, Sasuke was far more important than the actual protagonist of the manga but Itachi, who was actually Sasuke’s goal, who was actually the person Sasuke aspired to surpass, abused him, manipulated him and -more importantly- seemed more focused on getting Naruto -hence, retribution: the only person Sasuke seemed to care about didn’t seem care about him at all.
Itachi’s coolness, strength and mature handsomeness (that Sasuke did not present until Shippuden, but Itachi was literally introduced with), plus the dislike of Sasuke’s character and the belief that he needed to be rectified, the reason of which will be brought up next, appealed the teenage fandom in a way strong enough to catapult him inside the popularity polls just right after his presentation. 
The Self-inserts inside Itachi’s fandom
As I introduced, a large part of the fandom back in the first part already, and in Shippuden particularly, had a deep dislike of Sasuke’s character and wanted him to suffer -to be beaten, to be “owned”, Itachi’s character fulfilled that wish, which takes me to the second factor. 
You can’t explain this point in particular without adding the “self-insert” and “reader-insert” notions that often gets attached to Itachi (Sakura, Naruto and Hinata) fans, 
“Self-insertion is a practice by authors of writing themselves into their own stories, either explicitly or in thinly-disguised form; in a fannish context this most often means fan writers writing themselves into their favorite source material so that they can interact with canon or its characters” (X)
Whilst
“Reader-Insert is a type of fanfiction, almost always written in 2nd person Point of View; the protagonist is always the reader, and is usually paired with one of the canon characters. "Reader-insert" typically has a hyphen hyphen, but is also known as Canon X Reader (sometimes CanonXReader).” (X)
In this particular case, many readers had succumbed to something slightly in between. The manga doesn’t belong to them, so the only one in position to literally self-insert is Kishimoto (canonically), so they are left with the option of attaching themselves personally to a pre-existed character with whom they feel somewhat represented. If not, then at least they attach emotionally to a character because it represents what they desire (this can be more observed in the shipping part of the fandom). Meaning, they use a canon established character that is not literally the reader, but who clearly represents them or represents what they want in their significant (romantical) other. 
Sakura was the only female lead who had a crush on the cool guy, readers (particular female ones) didn’t need much to feel a connection with her (during the first part, Kishimoto didn’t even give them much to do so, but they still attached to her with the prospect of what she might become), while Naruto was the dead last, it appealed to those who also felt that they weren’t popular or were mistreated by their peers.
But what the self-inserts of Sakura or even Naruto had to do with the increasing love for Itachi? 
To explain this in a way that can be understandable: Sakura fans who believed Sasuke disrespected her when not acknowledging her feelings or when downgrading her skills often turned their attention to the man of similar physique and strength to fulfill their fantasies of reciprocation -because canonically, Itachi had neither rejected, nor downgraded her character. In the same fashion, Naruto fans who believe Sasuke is egotistical by not caring for/acknowledging Naruto in the same manner he does (hence, not deserving him), tend to also indulge in the same type of behavior previously mentioned. 
Later on, when the narrative introduces the idea that Itachi stands alongside Konoha (Naruto and Sakura), thus, against Sasuke (from an idealistic standpoint), this particular practice deepens, grows. They feel validated on their idea that Itachi will treat  their favorite character (them) better, while at the same time punishing Sasuke for rejecting them.
There are not many cases of Itachi self-inserts, I’m not denying their existence however because he did fulfilled a wish many readers had (against Sasuke), but Itachi’s self-insert part of the fandom seems to be more in terms of female character fans that desire their favorite kunoichi to be loved/desired/respected? by a powerful, handsome, mysterious character. 
Sasuke’s importance in the narrative (and character growth)
Sasuke escaping Konoha to get to Orochimaru, train, and become strong enough to defeat Itachi and avenge his clan won’t hold up for the four hundred or so chapters Naruto Shippuden lasts. After Itachi’s defeat at his hands, Sasuke had no reason not to return to Konoha, more importantly, he had no reason to fight Naruto as it was the intention and ultimate and most important clash in the manga since the introduction of their rivalry. 
Sasuke’s growth as a character (that I spoke more detailed in this post) was tied to the introduction of a deeper, more important problem: Konoha’s involvement in the UCM. It wasn’t new in Naruto to present the dichotomy and harsh truths of the shinobi system (Hyuga clan, Haku, Jinchurikis), and the intervention of Konoha’s government in the massacre of the Uchiha clan provided the narrative with a reason to have both Sasuke and Naruto fighting in different sides of the battlefield, but also presented a deeper problem: Itachi couldn’t be bad.
He couldn’t stand in the “bad” side of the field because both, that would put Naruto (the hero) in the same morally bad position, and Itachi's fandom (which was massive), was eager for redemption, they demanded it, and Naruto is not a manga that doesn’t get influenced by what its purchasers want. In consequence, they needed to justify Itachi’s actions. We can talk about how abysmally bad they did it, we can talk about how much better this problem could have been sorted out, but that is not the core of this post. 
Kishimoto loved Sasuke, I have said this before, despite the fandom wishes, he stood his ground when it came to Sasuke and his revolutionary position until the very end. Maintaining that ideal as just, put Naruto (hence, Itachi) in the wrong. But because the narrative needed Naruto to be good and in the right, he ended up justifying genocide by justifying Itachi.
Consequently, and with the appeal he earned with his introduction and the Sasuke-hate (self-inserts), Itachi became a favorite character amongst favorite characters despite being a plot holes with legs. Readers eagerly consumed whatever panel proved that Itachi was not the bad guy he was previously believed to be. (proved or at least didn’t show, Itachi still commited genocide, but we don’t get to see such attrocities so its easier to forget he slaughtered innocent people, children amongst them). Readers who liked him were desperate for the narrative’s validation.
Core of the issue
Which brings me to the core of the post and in retrospection, I have already presented it: moral standpoints. This is not new, I’m not introducing any new idea, and this is hardly something that happens solely in the Naruto’s (and most specifically Itachi’s) fandom. Liking or not a character is tied to so many subjective variables that it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what makes a character desirable or despicable despite solid traits being commonly shared on particular troups. And yet, liking or not a character became a moral standpoint for which people judged each other on a personal level. It has happened since always, but the internet did nothing but make more accessible and public this type of clashes. Therefore, Redemption Arcs became the most precious gem inside fictional works and Naruto fell for it, and fell hard. 
It’s almost mandatory to have the narrative’s validation in order to enjoy a character freely and Naruto provided it to Itachi’s fandom. His actions were justified by the manga and the most important (and beloved) characters stood by his side, even those who were victims of him forgave his actions because there was someone (with less appeal and more morally questionable actions under his belt) to blame further. Having the narrative’s moral validation is more important than actually being in the right. 
Itachi was manipulated by the Will of Fire who he learned from Hiruzen who was passed to him by Tobirama who created it because he was raised during the Warring States Period, so his apprehension to the Uchiha was justified. It’s a train of justifications that ultimately holds no one responsible for the genocide of an entire clan/race which then becomes something bound to happen. So to save face, they use an escape goat: Danzo and the Curse of Hatred. They put the blame of the massacre to a single character and the actual victims because, well, they were genetically prone to disaster and killing them was the only way to ensure (temporary) peace.
Liking a character doesn’t automatically mean condoning its actions but because that subjective appeal became more and more the reflection of the reader’s ideals (for some reason I’m not here to trace), those two actions merged, which translated consequently into demanding the narrative’s validation of our tastes. There’s no denial of the pleasing sensation that comes with having the plot’s endorsement for liking a complex/morally gray or even dark character, but that approval turned to be the most important/valuable requirement, which, in turn, made readers justificate (supported by the narrative) despicable actions, such as genocide. 
Let’s go back to the second bullet point, self- inserts, as to discern more in depth their reasons to look for a justification on Itachi’s character: Itachi (an Uchiha that was not affected by the Curse, as his peers were) who the narrative proclaims wanted his brother’s safety and happiness above all things, stands morally with Konoha (hence, the readers’ favorite character). Therefore, justifying his actions is justifying Sakura and Naruto’s actions against Sasuke (manipulation is alright because Itachi did it, trying to kill Sasuke because he didn’t want to bend to their will is alright because Itachi did it), it gives them reasons to believe that they are on the right side of the battlefield, it gives them moral superiority. They’re in the right, they are good people, Sasuke was too deep in his hatred to either see it or correspond their feelings and that’s why he needs to be saved, and who more appropriate to do so than the two characters that were mocked by him during the first part of the manga? Even in the end, Itachi still gives them the retribution they still feel deserve and that Sasuke -still- didn’t give.

You’ve caught us out, anon.
And thanks to you, we spent last night watching Breaking Dawn Part 2 so we could rank it. @theoriginalcarnivorousmuffin hadn’t seen it at all, while I half-remembered it from years ago. A terrible time was had because that movie was unwatchably bad.
Since this ask was sent jointly, our answer was co-written.
So, without further ado, movies first:
1. Twilight
This is a bad movie, but it’s recognizably a movie. The scenes are connected, there are things it did well, and we could tell you what the plot is. The awkwardness, for instance, is very well done. The weaknesses are glaring, the main one being that the film never sells us on the characters of Bella and Edward, nor on their relationship, relying instead on the audience knowing they’re in love because- well, they’re in love.
Diving deeper into Edward and Bella, there’s an understandable explanation for this. Edward of the books is terrifying, and I don’t think there’s a translation to screen that could have kept the romantic atmosphere surrounding him that we see from Bella’s point of view.
Bella can listen to Edward eating Biology and how he explains that it means how much he loves her and not blink. An actual audience hearing that dialogue will have second thoughts.
Right out of the gate, Twilight has a very difficult task: Salvage Edward Cullen while still producing a somewhat recognizable character who will take the same actions (or near the same actions) that Edward Cullen did in the book.
In the effort to make Edward palatable but save some of his original character he loses his more terrifying lines (as well as his hilarious ego) but becomes weird, awkward, and vaguely creepy. Edward Cullen of the films is that weird, friendless guy in your high school who you feel kind of bad for but don’t want to eat lunch with.
Bella faces a similar transformation. Bella’s insecurity is completely removed (or else the screenwriters somehow failed to notice it). As a result, we get this strange antisocial girl who is too cool for school because she’s a stuck up bitch.
Between Edward, this creepy guy who sits next to her in Biology, and Bella, this girl who enters school too good for everyone else, we see no reason why they would ever be interested in one another.
In an attempt to make these characters likeable they made them both unlikeable and boring. The film series as a whole never recovers from this (indeed, the quest to make Edward look good keeps leading to stranger and stranger places). 
It also forgets to explain why the Cullens live among humans, they’re attending high school… because. It’s a movie that explained to us all those terrible 2010 era memes and “still a better love story than Twilight”. And frankly, those memes were great, better than the movie. Case in point.
Everything is weirdly blue, which is atmospheric but also makes everything and everyone washed out. Everyone is super pale, so you have Mike looking just as vampire-y as Edward. However, it’s recognizably a movie. It introduces the characters, recognizes that the audience needs to be informed of things that are important to the plot, and most scenes are in some way connected to the plot. This is more than can be said for the other films, which is why it lands the top slot.
2. Eclipse
Eclipse earns its second place by process of elimination. The remaining three were worse. Eclipse also features Edward being cuckolded mercilessly, which is hilarious. Oh, and Victoria playing Riley, that was another beautiful scene.
Apart from that it’s just a deeply boring, borderline unwatchable movie.
Special shoutouts go to:
The opening scene of Riley getting turned, a ridiculous and poorly executed scene that served no purpose for the movie whatsoever.
Rosalie dropping her backstory without any context, Bella walks up to her and Rosalie launches into this horrific story for no particular reason. Both her and Jasper’s backstories could have been cut, as they served no purpose to the story and felt really thrown in there.
The many, many redundant scenes. The Victoria chase that ends with the Cullens and Quileutes squabbling could have been cut entirely. So too could the Seattle subplot with the newborns and Bree.
It’s a movie that isn’t about anything in particular, so it throws subplot spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks. It dutifully regurgitates the Jacob/Bella/Edward love triangle while also trying to convey that Bella’s about to lose her mortality, while also trying to introduce suspense and excitement with the newborns. It fails to execute either of these, and it also fails to tie them together.
3. New Moon
The movie that wanted to skip itself.
This movie had two jobs, show that Bella is depressed when Edward leaves and convince the audience of Bella and Jacob’s strong friendship. And apart the rotating shots and the occasional Stewart voiceover, the former becomes one of those “just stay with us on this one, guys” failures, and the second is failed on every level. Jake and Bella are much closer at the beginning of this movie than they were in canon, and a montage of Bella hanging out with her buddy is just that, it’s a montage of Bella hanging out with her buddy. It speaks volumes that Stewart’s voiceover has to remind us she’s depressed and Jacob is helping her heal, because there’s no indicator on screen that this is happening.
This, in turn, makes Bella/Jake as weak and unconvincing as Bella/Edward was in the previous movie. We just have to take on faith that these people are important to each other because that’s what we’re told.
There’s also the wolves, who are completely butchered. In the books, there’s this great mystery with bears in the woods, there’s Bella wondering why Laurent ran off, there’s build-up, then when we find out what’s actually been happening it’s a satisfying explanation, all the pieces come together really nicely. This is not the case in the movie. Meeting the pack is just weird in this context, because we never wondered who they were. Bella is randomly invited to breakfast, we meet Emily with the scarred face who won’t ever have a line again, and that’s it, these characters don’t become important to the movie in any way. It’s a pointless scene that could have been cut, much like so many other scenes in these movies.
Apart from that, the Volturi scene from the books is butchered so I hardly recognize it, and Alice, Carlisle, and Edward’s characters are assassinated to an impressive degree considering they were barely in the movie.
It was hard to watch.
It lands third place because somehow, Breaking Dawn was worse.
4. Breaking Dawn Part Two
I’ll just list the positives: the intro was very pretty and promised a better movie. It was also long, which we appreciated because it took away from the movie’s runtime. (This is not at all an exaggeration, a lot of the time watching all five movies was spent looking at the remaining runtime and groaning.) The Tommy Wiseau sex scene in the sex cabin was uncomfortable, but the fact that it would have fit perfectly in The Room made it funny. The Romanians were genuinely, unironically, great, because of all of Carlisle’s trashy friends, these were the only ones the movie didn’t try to convince us weren’t trashy.
This movie ranks above Breaking Dawn Part One because of the things listed above.
Apart from that, something all of these movies, but especially the last four, suffer from is that they don’t have plots so much as they have a check list of things to put in the movie before they can call it a wrap. This movie is the worst offender of that, and it’s made worse by the film’s expectation that the people are fans who already know what’s happening, and therefore don’t need anything explained. I’ll explain what we mean by that.
We get Bella waking up a vampire, and absolutely nothing is explained. If you don’t know what happened in the last movie then fuck you. Bella then goes hunting, we get the hiker, we get the mountain lion, she goes back to meet Renesmée, finds out Jake imprinted on her daughter, we get the sex cabin, the handwrestling with Emmett. The Charlie problem is introduced (poorly), only to be solved a scene later with emotional payoff that had absolutely no buildup. All of these things, and the rest of the movie as well for that matter, feels like we’re just crossing items off a list.
Since the audience is expected to already know the story, the story only bothers to explain about half of what’s happening, if half. Who’s the lady living with Charlie? If you don’t know, don’t worry because it’s not important anyway. When did Kate and Garrett fall in love? If you don’t care, that's understandable, because they’ve barely interacted in the movie. Who are the Amazonian women? Do they have names? Don’t worry about it. Did Alistair actually leave, if so did that have an impact? Well, Bella stared at a window for a few seconds.
Every so often the characters will start quoting the books, and it’ll be completely out of place because these movies veered off course long ago. Carlisle references his great friendship with Aro, a friendship that was only briefly mentioned at the beginning of the second movie. Aro randomly starts talking about how scary human technology is.
All of these scenes feel like Marcus is telling the story, he’s just listing events waiting for the story to be over, and forgets a lot of pertinent details because he doesn’t care enough to remember them. There’s no effort to tie these scenes together, no effort to build up to anything.
There’s also one significant failure, and this is a failure shared by all five films, but it affects the plot (I use the term “plot” loosely) of this movie which is why it gets a special shoutout here. Vampires in these movies look human. The fact that Bella has to ask Edward is Gianna the secretary is human says it all, because in the books you know instantly, there’s not even a question. This makes the Charlie subplot ridiculous, because Bella looks and acts the same as ever. She had a trashy makeover, maybe, but she’s still Bella. Watching her get human acting classes after we watched her act perfectly human is just silly. Now, we’re all for suspension of belief, but this movie just pencil drew a moustache on her and the audience is supposed to go “My god, Bella, I didn’t recognize you!”
We then get to the atrocious fight scene, which was somehow worse than I remembered. It was also oddly long for a giant fake out. This scene took significant run time and it turns out to have 0 effect on the plot. And when we get back to the real world, the tonal shift is extreme. You can’t go from Jane being choked, dragged across the snow and face eaten by a wolf to her standing around chilling. We could have skipped it entirely, just had Alice touch Aro’s hand, and he goes “Ah, I see, cheerio.”
The end credits were pretty funny, “here are these random characters with bit parts in previous movies, isn’t this nostalgic?”. Nice try, movie. The fact this came after an extended clip show of the great romance of Edward and Bella, through blurry montage images that failed to be convincing in their original films let alone this one, just made it even more hilarious. Hope you didn’t completely ruin the director’s career, though honestly you should a bit.
5. Breaking Dawn Part One
As you can probably tell by the above entries, the fact that this is the worst one is really saying something. All the movies were hard to watch, but this one required pure strength of will to power through.
The big issue is that Breaking Dawn shouldn’t have been split in the first place. However, it was, and that meant that we got a movie that was almost entirely filler. (Followed, somehow, by a movie that was also largely filler.)
We get everybody preparing for the wedding. What do Mike and Jessica think of Bella and Edward getting married? What’s that, you don’t care? Well, now you know anyway. We get the full wedding, as in the whole fucking thing, including the afterparty. We get Bella and Edward traveling to their island, and there’s filler in the filler where they go clubbing in Rio. We then get every minute detail of the wedding night followed by every minute detail of the honeymoon.
There’s fanservice, and then there’s this. This was live action fanfiction.
NOTHING that in any way is relevant to the story happens, the closest we get is Irina looking stoned. Too bad the Denali’ refusal to help out in Eclipse was cut from the last movie, in fact I’m not sure they were mentioned at all previously in these movies (I think maybe Edward had a one-line reference in Twilight?) so this means nothing to people who haven’t read the books.
We then get to the pregnancy arc, which could have been Rosemary’s Baby but is instead as outrageously boring as the first half of the movie was. The director must have realized as much, because he gives us Jacob’s alpha plot that should have been cut from the movie (yes, I know it was in the books, but the thing about adaptations is that things have to go. For the record, I think Meyer should have cut it too). That subplot was straight out of an anime, by the way. Jacob claiming his ancestral rights as alpha while listing off his titles and the soaring music, was… every shounen anime, ever. Complete with the shitty voice acting.
It was a soul-crushingly boring movie.

Something that screws over the last four movies is that they were made to feed the fangirls, and generate revenue because the producers knew the fans were coming to watch the books they liked come to life, so they just had to throw scenes from the books and into the movies and let the magic happen. This is a terrible way to adapt something.
Special shoutout too to having to watch Taylor Lautner run around shirtless in four out of five movies. That was very uncomfortable and none of us needed that in our lives, Lautner included.
Super special shoutout to the fact that we disagree with nearly all the casting.
And this isn’t the post for that, but all of the characters were butchered. Some more than others, and some more insidiously than others. It’s the big things, like Carlisle’s character being turned on its head since he thinks all vampires are damned, exactly the opposite of what he thinks in the books, and the little things, like Jasper and Bella being buddies who bicker fondly in New Moon. 
Then the books:
1. Midnight Sun
HANDS DOWN. This is easily our favorite thing to come out of the entire Twilight franchise.
Edward is every kind of crazy at the same time, all the time, and it makes every single sentence packed with delirious entertainment. Reading this book is having a stroke, a psychotic episode, and watching five different true crime shows all at once. We adore every letter of it. (That’s no exaggeration, we even laughed about Edward capitalizing “Son” when Carlisle refers to him as “son” in conversation.)
The book was more than we’d dared to hope for, one of those rare books that makes you go “This was written just for me.”
2. Twilight
The one that started it all.
Vampires are wonderfully creepy. Things like Bella staring at Carlisle acting like the mundane town doctor shortly after learning just how old he is, Alice explaining how vampires kill all, and the uncanny valley perfection of the Cullens all add to the otherness of these vampires, and the general atmosphere of the book.
The love story is convincing. Edward seen through the eyes of Bella is wonderful, the red flags are there but if it weren’t for the books that followed we wouldn’t have decried the ship the way we do.
3. Eclipse
Breaking Dawn is the more interesting book, but Eclipse has less things we outright don’t like. We get to know all the characters better, Edward and Bella are their usual beautiful selves, and it’s overall peak Twilight.
4. Breaking Dawn
Would have ranked much higher, we like what it did. Without it we wouldn’t be in this fandom now, as it brought so much amazing content. The baby plot is fine by us, Carlisle’s friends are great, the Volturi confrontation is a beautiful, if bleak culmination of preventable events. There’s a lot of great stuff in this book.
Unfortunately, and there’s just no diplomatic way to put this, so I’ll just come out with it: there’s too much Jacob.
He no longer had a reason to be in the story, given the way Eclipse ended he had every reason not to be in it. In spite of that we get an entire third of the book from his point of view, and then damned if he’s not shoehorned into the last third as well. He added absolutely nothing to the story, he was just there taking up space and being possessive of a toddler. 5. New Moon
This was the book we had to power through. There are some very good things in it, most notably the Volturi scene, but the Muffin and I enjoy Twilight for the vampires, and that makes Laurent and Hallucination!Edward the highlights of the part of the book where Edward is gone.
There’s also the fact that Jacob isn’t a very compelling character. He has to carry the book now that the Cullens aren’t doing it, and he simply isn’t up for it.

Yes, we’re aware that these books are ranked according to how much Jacob is in them. We don’t even hate him, not at all, it’s just that he’s boring.
(That being said, the books at their worst are better than the movies at their best. Jacob narrating his perfect playdate with Renesmée would still be preferable to… I’m trying to think of a good scene from the movies. Hm, nevermind.)
As for The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner and Life and Death, only I have read Bree Tanner and I don’t remember it well enough to give a proper assessment. I was bored with the OCs, though, bored to tears, throughout that book I was itching for Victoria and the Cullens. We have not read Life and Death, but we’re offended by its existence so it ranks bottom.

i actually can't think of any i actively avoid. i guess i stay away from crossover fics, but not deliberately, like i would be open to writing a fandom crossover fic. i guess i don't really like love triangles unless they're done really well, because i kinda find them irritating? which i know is an unpopular opinion.
24: Do you prefer AUs with the characters or sticking to the original universe?
Canon divergent all the way babeeeeeeeey!!!! I adore taking a deeper look into this already super expansive world and like, kiiiinda taking some creative liberties with the lore already in place. i love AUs as well and i really want to branch out into more, especially showcase my adoration for fantasy <3

Y/N had nodded off while studying with her headphones in, as usual. Yunho decided to let her be, not daring to interrupt her sleep by rousing her to take off her headphones or move her to a more comfortable position. She always slept better when listening to something anyway, he noticed. 
Yunho could have left. He could have gone home—he even could have used the opportunity to get a good night’s sleep, take advantage of his human body that was constantly threatening him with the need to dream. It was so unfamiliar to him. 
But as Yunho prepared to leave, a peculiar post-it, pinned precariously above Y/N’s desk, caught his eye. He knew it was San’s calling card, or at least he could guess as much by the Latin scribblings. He froze for a moment, his limbs feeling like lead as his body moved him towards the post-it note. It was a bad idea, he knew it, but his body was pulling him forward before any sense of reason or logic could catch up.
 As an angel, he couldn’t summon San even if he wanted to, calling card or not. But as a temporary human, he was free to do what he wished with San—with a curious loophole. As an angel, even in his human body, he didn’t need a contract with San.
He exited the room quietly, shutting the door gingerly behind him. If he was going to have an opportunity to talk to San alone, now was probably the best—if not only—time he would have to do it. He stood in the middle of the living room facing the kitchen, bringing the post-it note up to recite San’s card carefully. 
“Well this is an unexpected surprise,” San’s voice rang out from behind him. Yunho swiveled on his heels to see San poised neatly on the couch, looking as dark and devilish as ever. He ran his fingers through his hair, tousling it gently as his crimson gaze met Yunho’s. “The human’s place and yet… no human?”
“She’s asleep,” Yunho explained calmly, shoving his hands in his pockets. “I thought we could talk.”  
“Talk, hm?” San fiddled his lip ring in his fingers absently, dragging his lip down slightly as he pulled at it. “Hm… Is that liquor I smell on your innocent little angel breath, Yunho?” San asked with a smug smirk, but no question needed to be asked. Yunho smelled unmistakably like the glass of alcohol he’d had with Y/N earlier in the evening—an activity he wasn’t exactly used to yet. Alcohol was useless to an angel, but to his human form, it was liquid gold. 
“I—it doesn’t matter…” Yunho started, heat pooling in his cheeks from San’s call out. He was embarrassed to have even given in to a drink in the first place. It was a bit sinful, as an angel. 
San’s eyes gleamed mischievously as he gazed at Yunho up and down. “Don’t worry, Yunyun. I won’t tell.” He made a zipping motion with his fingers against his lips. 
“Don’t call me that, San. I told you never to call me that again,” Yunho said through gritted teeth. 
“What, are you just going to pretend forever?” San raised himself slowly from the couch, taking a step towards Yunho. “Pretend that we weren’t a thing?”
Yunho rolled his eyes. “A thing? Is that what you want to call it now?” He took a deep breath, collecting himself. San knew exactly which buttons of his to push—he always did. “I didn’t come here to talk about this, you know. I came here to talk about our situation.”
San quirked an eyebrow, eyes glazed over with an emotion Yunho couldn’t quite place. “What if I don’t want to talk?”
“No one said you have to say, San. You know I can’t contract you. You’re free to go if you want,” Yunho said, trying to seem as unbothered as possible. But the truth was, he was completely bothered by the idea of San leaving. Maybe it was the drink slightly rose-coloring his vision, but San looked… incredible. 
He was lean, as always, his proportions immaculate—a statue of a demon, waist cinched in beautifully by a belt, then erupting into a dizzying display of broad shoulders. Yunho wiped his mouth subconsciously, swiping away the drool that had somehow collected at the corners of his lips. His time with San was a distant memory, but one that, at this moment, he desperately wanted to experience again. If only once. 
Something Yunho didn’t know about alcohol—it made him horny. He’d only had one small glass, and yet he felt himself growing harder by the minute, especially when standing right in front of San like this. He wondered if San noticed. “For what, hmm? A little alone time with your ex-lover?” San flashed his fangs, and Yunho stumbled back until his back met the cold surface of the kitchen counter. “I have to admit, you look good. It’s too bad you don’t have your pretty little wings.” 
He looked Yunho up and down with his blood-red eyes, gleaming impishly as he noticed Yunho’s nervous disposition. Yunho could barely hide the way he was squirming now, feet shuffling against the floor, not quite sure where to put his hands. He crossed his legs slightly to conceal his boner, but he knew San had already seen it by the look in his eye as his gaze moved downwards. 
“I knew you still had a soft spot for me, Yunho. Or maybe a hard spot…” He took one more step forward, pinning Yunho with his hands, trapping him against the marble countertop. “Feeling flustered by me, angel boy? Cute.”
Yunho scoffed, shoving San off him. “I’m not playing your games, San. I know you.”

As much as Yunho hated to admit it, and how much he knew that San was just toying with him for fun, he had a point. But as he closed his eyes to sleep, he only saw San, the mental image of him on his knees, glancing up at Yunho through messy strands of raven hair, lips swollen, eyes dark and lustful. 
This was going to be harder than he thought.

MacGyver 5x01
After the long wait MacGyver has returned with a kickass premiere. And because the wait was too long, my review will be long too! So you are warned.
The episode was great. Loved the John Wick references, the storyline was solid, pacing was good, action scenes were brilliant and the fight choreographies are getting better and better each season so this episode also did not that dissapoint on that front. And bcoz i missed all the characters so freaking much, having them back felt so good.
Vincent is probably one of my favorite guest stars ever on this show. Loved the humor he brought to the scenes and i think he had great chemistry with both Russ and Mac. I wasn’t even sorry that he double crossed them coz he did it so smoothly! LOL
In another life Mac and Vincent could have been best buddies!
Girls Team & Boys Team
One of the things i loved about this episode was the “tension” between the characters. I was glad to see that the whole Codex mess wasn’t glossed over.
It was nice to see Mac-Russ and Riley-Desi trying to save the day while dealing with their “trust issues”.
I really loved the paralel storytelling between Boys Team and Girls Team.
Last time it was MacRiley vs RussDesi… And now Matty mixes the teams so that they could regain some of the trust that was lost between them. I love you BOSS LADY!
Now this episode might have been “perfect” if it could have handled the Riley-Desi resolution better. I enjoyed how Mac-Russ made things work in the end. Russ already apologized Mac in 4x13 but in this episode we saw that his trust issues and paranoia were still going on. And Mac was having a hard time working with a guy that tried to “kill” him. DUH!
It was so good to see Mac saying everything that is needed to be said and in the end Russ finally realized the wrong in his behaviour and let Mac know that he has his trust from now on.
Riley&Desi
But IMO things didn’t end in a satisfying way for the Girls Team. The writers trying to “soften” Desi’s behaviour in 4x12 by throwing some of the guilt on Riley, left a bad taste in my mouth.
Desi says she could have joined Riley if she would have let her in on her plan.
And this is 100% NOT TRUE.
Lets remember 4x12 very quickly…
Mac’s gone rogue. Russ tells the team Mac is now an enemy of the state. Desi sides with Russ. Matty and Bozer are neutral. Riley tries to reason with everyone on the team.
“Guys, is this really neccessary?”
“Mac does everything for a reason.”
“Mac doesn’t have an evil bone in his body.”
While Riley tries to make Desi & the team change their minds about Mac, what does Desi do?:

That’s not my interpretation guys, that’s canon. That is what happened in 4x12.
So we all know that Riley letting Desi in on her plan could only end with Desi stopping her. Desi’s mind was set, she didn’t trust Mac and she wanted nothing but to stop him. Let’s not change history!
Besides, why did Desi need Riley’s plan, couldn’t she come up with her own to save Mac if that’s what she really wanted to do?
So as you see, Riley apologizing to Desi was total BS. Desi was the only one who needed to say sorry and unfortunately the best she could do was to say “she regretted her choices”…  I think once again writers missed the opportunity for some character development for Desi. Desi needs to OWN her mistakes alone without other characters’ HELP.
The triangle
Because i’m an obssesed fan who likes to delve more deeply into the characters, i rewatched this episode and here’s the conclusion i’ve come:
Desi is angry and resentful. But not just angry at Riley but herself too. She says she regrets not being there for Mac and Riley. She knows she should have trusted Mac and messed up!
But i also sensed some jealously there. By the end of 4x13 Desi’s anger towards Mac seemed to dissapear. So why was Desi angry at Riley in 5x01?
Because as Mac’s girlfriend she should have been the one by his side when it really mattered.
Because as Mac’s partner, she should have been the one risking it all to protect him.
But it was Riley who did all that.
That’s why she’s projecting all her anger on Riley. Because she is jealous. And i think Riley noticed that too. Our queen is very perceptive especially when it comes to reading people’s emotions.
Throughout the episode she tried to make things work with Desi. But Desi blocked all her attempts. And when Desi opened up, Riley realized that there is a much deeper wound under all that anger. That’s probably why she apologized. It was Riley’s way of making things work. Riley was the bigger person here. She wanted peace, she needed a solution. So she said sorry
Back to Desi’s “jealousy”… When she asked Riley why she followed Mac, she was totally fishing for another answer.
Desi is not stupid she already knows the obvious answer. Riley followed Mac bcoz she trusted him. But that’s not what she was searching for. She asked the question to read Riley’s expressions and body language. And Riley felt that too… But bcoz our queen is a true queen she delivered the best line of the episode:
“Because i trust Mac. Question is why didn’t you?”
This line is heavy people! Riley counterattacks Desi. She is basically saying “Instead of interrogating me about my feelings how about you question yours?”
This episode might have resolved the Codex tension, but the triangle is still a reality. Both girls have feelings for Mac, so there’ll be more tension/awkwardness between them. Better get ready!
Timejump
10 months and a pandemic since Codex, huh?
We all know that the writers added that line and the information about Phoenix being shut down to fit the new episodes to a pandemic world. But for die-hard fans like us, it’s not working. The characters are acting like Codex happened yesterday, Riley recently moved to a new place which she was looking for in 4x11…
So i’m gonna ignore the 10 month time jump coz i know that the additional episodes weren’t designed that way.
Honourable mention
1 to 10, how hot was the opening scene? *cough 11 cough*
It was literally and figuratively HOT.
I really wanted and expected Mac’s towel to drop at some point. Obviously dissapointed when it didn’t! LMAO

To end my weekly MacGyver ramblings; i can say that i’m ok with the team resolving the tension. The episodes we are watching now were actually written as a continuation of season 4. Probably back in the day the writers didn’t want to keep the dark-tense episodes going forever so they needed to put an end to that and move to lighter and more fun dynamic.

rebutting and debunking frequently used arguments against macriley
I made this 10-page google doc rant a while ago, but I never ended up posting it. Today, however, I woke up and chose violence. So here it is: my thoughts on frequently used arguments against macriley.
I took some quotes and arguments that people put online (reddit, tumblr..), and I debunked them all :p I feel like I always see the same arguments all the time, and I’m honestly getting a little tired of hearing them. I’m here to settle this once and for all.
and yes, i did manage to cut down the google doc by 3 pages :D (but it's still long af so rip my brain)
1.”Mac and Riley are siblings because Jack is their father”

I can (mostly) get behind the argument that Mac and Riley shouldn’t be in a romantic relationship because of their super strong friendship. Some people really value that sole platonicness, and I get that.
But the argument that I can’t get behind is that: Mac and Riley are siblings because Jack is their father figure”
If you google the definition of “father,” the first result that comes up is: “a man in relation to his children.”
Now, Jack was definitely the father figure to Riley, and I would consider her his child. He raised her. He helped shape her ideals and upbringing.
Mac only met Jack when he left MIT. So it was pretty much after Mac was raised (by Bozer’s parents haha), that Jack really came into his life. Mac already became his own person. (also, I always saw Mac and Jack as more of a bromance)
So because Riley and Mac met Jack at different periods of their lives, and they were raised differently, I wouldn’t say that they were siblings who were raised by the same father.
2. “The show writers left the impression that there was a huge age gap between them”

I understand this a little. I do think Riley was introduced as pretty young and idk naive? Because she was literally in highschool, and then she went to prison, and then she got released into the wild. Personally, when I started watching the show, I googled the whole cast. So I started the show knowing that they were the same age.
And also, the more I got to know Riley, the more that I thought that Riley was more mature and had an old soul herself. I think it was because she was just a dynamic and round character, who is well-developed.
But, I get first impressions. I feel like once you get stuck on an impression, it’s hard to go away from that.
Also, Jack would’ve totally shipped macriley, and you can’t change my mind.
3. "Riley isn't ready for a relationship"

I honestly think that this argument should be more geared towards Mac. He needs to figure himself out and go to therapy ffs. However, this person targeted Riley (the literal queen), so I shall defend her:
I understand wanting Riley to take some time off, and figure herself out before going straight into another relationship with someone. But here’s the thing. Throughout the first few seasons Riley’s character was very well established, and she didn’t have any partners during that time. She has proven that she is a strong, well-rounded, independent woman (with or without a partner). So i think it is valid to say that she isn’t just some girl who only has boy toys. She is much more than that.
My next point is that Riley has made it clear that she wants a lasting relationship with someone who will support her. When talking with Mac in 4.04, we see her express her interest in a stable, healthy relationship. It’s not wrong to go out and look for that potential partner. This applies to everyone (not just fictional characters): It’s going to take a few relationships and self-discovery, to find a good relationship, and people shouldn’t be shamed for searching for that.
Riley has only ever had two major boyfriends that I remember. First was Billy; she took that relationship very seriously. She really did seem happy with him. It was a shame that he cheated on her. Second was Aubrey. She also took that relationship very seriously. She had been living with him for six months (and they even had the cutest date nights!) So I wouldn't say that Riley only has boy toys. She has meaningful relationships.
Lastly, I think this was written when season four started airing, but it’s been over a year (and a pandemic) since Riley has dated. I think enough time has passed.
*4. I had to split this one up because, oh boy, there is a lot to unpack here.

4a. “If that was the direction they’d chosen to take with that relationship from square one… My issue with it is that Mac and Riley were presented to us as friends/ found siblings for three years. There were NO romantic vibes to speak of between them..”
I actually felt the same way about macriley. The thought of them being together in season one, made me want to throw up. I don’t think the writers intended on having macriley, and I was perfectly fine with that.
I know that people look for different things when they ship. Some really like having instant gratification with the spicy, hot, sexy parts of a relationship, like macdesi (which is why I was fine with the idea of shipping macdesi in the past).
I always wanted to see macriley do more: have hot, flirtatious banters/interactions. it can be hard to ship people who seem to be missing that part of the love equation. So i agree. It's definitely strange. And I understand if you genuinely have a hard time seeing the romantic potential of macriley, when the writers have only dragged out and shown us the platonic potential of them.
Also, the reason why it is difficult to see macriley as romantic, was because they ALWAYS PRIORITIZED AND WERE DRIVEN on their friendship. A partner should be friends first, and then makeout buddies second.
But just because people start off as friends, doesn’t mean that they still don’t have that potential to be lovers. Because guess what?! Feelings change. It’s now canon that Riley has feelings for Mac, and Mac always had feelings for Riley (but never acted on it).
I'm sorry, but you like a boomer when you say “bAcK iN mY dAy, tHeY dIdN’t HaVe fEeLiNgS fOr EaCh oThEr.” like okaAAAyyYYyYY????? We are not “back in your day” anymore. We are in the present. We are in today. And today, macriley is real :)
4b. “There’s the incredibly tired trope where long-term coworkers suddenly catch feelings for each other out of nowhere”
Personally, I will never get tired of the friends to lovers trope. I think the fact that Mac and Riley had such a strong friendship and foundation is what makes them perfect. Again, I know that some people just like instant gratification, but I love when a couple can take their time to have depth, emotion, and realness in their relationship.
Obviously I am biased because I have so much love for this trope, it's my favorite trope, but I don't see why you would use the “it’s overused” as reasoning to hate a ship. Just because a trope is used a lot, doesn’t mean it is bad (that’s probably why it is so good lmao). I can understand getting tired of it, and growing a dislike towards a trope. For example, I have grown an extreme dislike towards the love triangle.
A bit of a tangent: But the difference between overusing love triangles and overusing friends to lovers, is that love triangles aren’t just commonly used tropes. They are cliches. They cause unwanted drama and unnecessary hurt to one character. Whereas friends to lovers doesn’t involve as much drama and pain for a character. It is more of just angst between two people. And we know that they will get together eventually with a happy ending. So it was never really problematic.
And even then, the great thing about overusing or utilizing tropes, is that they can act as a guide. It allows the show writers and cast to make it personal, make it their own, adding their own special flair to it
I just don’t see the “this trope is used a lot” as a valid reasoning for disliking a ship .It just seems like this commenter doesn’t like the friends to lovers trope for the sake of not liking it.
I could be very wrong in my assumption of this person’s thoughts on friends to lovers, maybe there is a deeper reasoning as to why they don’t like it, but the tone that i interpreted when i read this section, was that they don’t have a real reason to dislike it, it’s more of just because.
4c.“then there's the fact that Riley had a mostly single Mac in her life for 3-4 years and she never even considered him romantically until he was with someone else”
First: Riley didn’t CHOOSE to fall in love. You may recall that “emotions aren’t a science. You can’t control them.”
Second: Mac was broken up with Desi when she caught feelings for him. Plus, the moment Riley saw that Mac and Desi were getting happy together, she moved out and gave them space. She sacrificed her own feelings for his happiness, despite the fact that her heart was breaking.
4d. “and finally, Mac not only still doesn't seem to even have Riley on his radar in that way but he literally told another woman that he loves her just last week. Neither of them look particularly good here if they get together now.”
I'm assuming that this was written when 4.12 first aired. I'm also assuming that this comment was more directed towards the idea of Mac and Riley getting together immediately at the end of the season, rather than later down the road. I always saw of macriley as more of endgame material. That i would see them get together sometime in the future. So I agree. Macriley getting together during that time period, would be too rushed and unsatisfying.

So those were most of the supposed arguments that I saw for people who were against macriley, but I also wanted to provide some really good examples of people who were very respectable, and actually had valid reasoning for disliking them.
1. they just don’t like shipping in general
Ships can be annoying af. Seeing people ONLY focus on the ships is sometimes tiring. I, myself, even feel a little guilty making this post, because I need to chill and mind my own business lmaooo. I really should let people do whatever they want to do with their lives, and not get caught up in the ships, but here I am :p
Anyways, I know that there is a lot of unnecessary drama that comes with shipping, and it's tiring to see people constantly go on and on about romance, when there are other perfect things about the show.
2. No matter how hard they try, they just feel it.
This is literally so dumb (and a little hypocritical/self-contradictory), but if you have a gut feeling, and you just can’t get yourself to ship it, I get it. If you truly and genuinely believe that they are best platonic friends, I can't change your opinion. And I have respect for you (if you say it in a kind manner).
Here is a nice example of a person who expressed their opinion in a nice way, with no BS.

So the moral of the story: I can't control your deepest thoughts. I can't control your gut feelings. And that’s okay. But the moment that you start backing up your thoughts and insights with BS reasoning, is the moment that I lose respect for you.

My friend, I want to hear more of your opinion regarding the questionable how-did-we-get-here relationship between Soushi, Kazuki, and Maya. I actually had fun watching Maya crushing on Kazuki in S1 and to an extent in Exodus. Then there's the canonical ship tease between Soushi and Maya, which is IMO flimsily written? (They had a stronger chemistry in S1). I don't know where I'm going with this. All I know is that everything derailed the moment Maya's characterization shifted.
I have a lot of thoughts about this, though full disclosure, I haven't watched The Beyond cuz everything past the movie is just...no.
If you ask me, the ship tease between Soushi and Maya doesn't work whatsoever because in season 1 she vaguely resents him and treats him like the number 1 reason for Kazuki's problems. Which, in her defense, isn't necessarily wrong but disregards a lot of his own problems
She isn't downright nasty to him but she is very clearly aware of the fact that Kazuki cares about Soushi more than anyone else and while she doesn't like that she knows getting Soushi to stop being so cold would help Kazuki mentally a lot, which she doesn't like cuz she'd prefer being that person for him herself but she's emotionally mature enough to put those two fools first
Meanwhile every canon piece of media ever has made it a point to mention that Soushi also cares about Kazuki more than anyone, especially post reconciliation in season 1 and their connection in the movie, and past Heaven and Earth he repeatedly implies that he knows he won't be around for long, especially in late Exodus. He doesn't make it a secret that he won't survive the season and actually makes an effort to build up Kazuki's support system for him, including Maya.
And since he was also fully prepared to die for the island as early as season 1, him suddenly giving clumsy hints towards Maya makes zero sense, especially when they already established a much deeper emotional connection to Kazuki as early as the first episodes of the series.
From my perspective, Maya giving up on Kazuki because he's more focused on Soushi and Soushi pushing them together cuz he knows Kazuki will need someone who cares once he's gone is more in line with their personalities and their previous characterization
Maya still being in love with Kazuki and just not pursuing it is very much something she would do cuz she never puts herself first, never has. That's shown as early on as her friendship with Shouko.
Kazuki never showed any interest in girls whatsoever, and even when he figured out Shouko liked him in the novel he didn't even see her as an option, so if they actually show something developing with Maya that'd be weird
Soushi doesn't know what being selfish means unless it comes to Kazuki so him showing interest in Maya is also weird cuz of how one track his mind is concerning Kazuki
The love triangle being Kazuki -> Soushi -> Maya -> Kazuki is weird when you consider their behavior and characterization for most of the series.
It being Maya -> Kazuki <-->Soushi while Soushi keeps himself back because of the circumstances of his return and impending death to instead instead try and push Maya and Kazuki together makes more sense
Idk if that what you wanted to hear but that's how I view it. Again, haven't watched The Beyond cuz everything after the movie has just been...kinda meh, especially when they began pushing the Kazuki and Soushi dynamic to the background and even forgot that Kazuki would lose his goddamn mind if Soushi jumped in front of a gun of him in season 1
Just...remember his reaction to Idun kidnapping Soushi? Kazuki thought he was dead and BEGGED HIS FATHER to let him go on a suicide mission to get revenge? He even outright compares his feelings to what his father felt when Akane died. Remember that? Cuz I sure do.
Everything less than that level of devotion is ooc and not my Kazuki

Raven x Tai x Summer

B+ I enjoy it, it’s really cute
I will take all and any combination of STR that leaves the Q the heck out of it. I love the inner turmoil and self-fulfilling prophecy of qrow doing his own thing at beacon, doing his own thing with the drinking, falling into the habit of forcing himself to the outside looking in because of his work and his semblance, even when people do start wanting him around. This is how his life goes. Of course they all hook up and leave him behind. That’s how it should be. I like this angst for him.
Also, particularly for my muse, his grayromantic tendencies have him scratching his head through all the hormones and crushes and dating world that beacon brings, and he is more than happy to sit on the sidelines and watch his dearest ones be happy with all of that without fucking it up even worse than his semblance does by trying to make anything more or deeper than it already is. he has his found family and a place to be, no more no less, and he has his job that lets him fly around the world being a single, cool guy, huntsman-spy doing whatever the hell he wants. he’s GOOD. i’m alone in this crowd, but i can’t see it any other way. 
Also, whyyyyy does no one talk about qrow possibly being “uncle qrow” to Ruby because Raven and Summer were a thing at some point and Ruby’s kind of her daughter too, so that’s what he would actually be??? or even more likely because qrow and Summer were like brother and sister but that’s not relevant at the moment. AND if Ruby is Tai’s daughter, and qrow is still Tai’s brother-in-law, then like, it also checks.
Anyway, on to the actual ship.
Poly STR sure beats the hell out of a love triangle, or the people that cry out about Tai x Summer not even being possible because “it’s too soon” after Raven left. Have you met actual real people? Especially hurting people with pre-established comfort with others?
Raven and Tai are canon and I can see that and I have 1000 ways of picturing how it happened and this dynamic and they’re all good and I really hope we learn more eventually. I don’t think Raven was used to any kindness from boys other than her brother and it just knocked her for a loop and she couldn’t handle it. Likewise, Tai probably never met anyone like Raven before; he canonly has clear admiration for her. Sunshine Jock and Edgy Goth get married. Good for them!!! Raven probably also never met someone like Summer. Someone I picture being an equal amount kind and hardass. Also equally difficult for Raven to fathom and even harder to accept the way she somehow overcomes her rebellious nature with that firm, guiding hand. We don’t know enough to know how Raven might effect Summer, but I imagine she could equally benefit from simply all that tenacity. Maybe Summer was a little too humble or a little soft or a little too scattered. She probably helped her, possible even forced her to focus. Some sexual tension there that turned to more? I can see it. Summer and Tai. The most wholesome. Just. Classic Romcom. I don’t know how and I don’t know why, but I’m pretty sure we can all feel the feelings and the deep love there, just by looking at what’s left of the family. I picture Summer having a quiet depth to her that drew in all the members of STRQ in varying ways. Tai probably fell into it the hardest of all.

Part XXII: Tryna Make Me a Widow?
Author’s Notes: Last part of the honeymoon era. Back to Jackson for the newlyweds. I have some exciting plot points coming up concerning a certain canonical character, some more angst (gory) and a little love triangle may or may not happen *shrugs*
Warning: Minor gore up ahead. 
Genre: A bit of angst because honeymoons aren’t always perf
Summary: You and Joel run into trouble while out and about in an attempt to enjoy each other’s company and nature. Near death experience and the couple’s first fight as a married couple. 
Ship: Joel x Fem!Reader
You and Joel decided to take a leisurely hike first thing in the morning before it got too hot. He took your hand in his when the two of you left the cottage and you didn’t let go. After a while of walking through the woods, the two of you found yourselves quite a distance away from where you started. You didn't want to go any further, but Joel was compelled to follow a deer along the hillside. 
You looked at Joel curiously after he suddenly stopped in his tracks. His eyes narrowed and focused in one direction. Your eyes followed his line of view to no avail. There was no deer there. As a matter of fact, there was nothing but the ordinary trees. You were about to ask him what was wrong, but he cut you off before you could even make a sound.
“Be very still.” Joel whispered to you, his eyes never moving away from that spot. It was first a slight movement in his peripheral that caught his attention. He thought it was another deer, kin to the one he was following. For the longest moment, Joel couldn’t figure out what it was that he saw, but he knew he saw something. There was no wind; it moved on its own. This knowledge caused him to let his guard up as he peered out into the distance.
“Is it another animal?” You asked in a matching whisper. Joel didn’t respond. 
When it finally moved again, he was able to make out the figure. It was a person disguised against a tree trunk. As it moved again, Joel locked eyes with it; The figure knew it was caught. Swiftly, it lifted it’s bow and shot an arrow. Joel moved directly in front of you and instinctively lifted his hand to shield his face. Within seconds, the arrow pierced through his hand. The arrowhead pointed directly in front of his right eye. In a state of shock, he brought his hand down and looked at the foreign object lodged between his knuckles. The shock soon turned to aggression as he looked back up into the woods. 
“Stay here and hide.” He commanded as he nodded his head in the direction of  a large bush.
“Joel what---” You began to argue.
“I need to know that you’ll be safe. Now, hide!” He quickly looked at you before glaring back in the direction from which the arrow came. 
You wanted to protest again when Joel ran off deeper into the woods, but you knew it’d be of no use. Strapped to his back was a scope rifle. As you crouched down next to the bushes, you wished that he would have stayed by your side and used the weapon instead.
The rush of adrenaline gave him the energy and ability to ignore the piercing pain of his wound. He pulled out his pistol as he came up on the figure. It was a man and he didn’t start running away until it was too late. Joel aimed for his leg and pulled the trigger. The strange man tripped over himself and fell, allowing for Joel to catch up. With his unwounded hand, he pistol whipped the man across the face. Blood dripped down his arm from the hole in his other hand. He didn’t hear you approach from the blood pumping through his body. You pleaded for him to stop. You knew the man who attacked the two of you needed to be stopped, but you hated seeing Joel so violent. He compromised by repositioning the gun in his hand to aim the barrel at the man’s head. He was about to shoot when he heard you walk closer to him. He turned and read the look of fear on your face. He was unsure if the fear was from him or the stranger. He only pulled his attention away from you when he began to hear the familiar sound of the infected nearby. He knew that they’d eventually find the wounded body of the stranger that attacked you both and the distraction would be welcome as the two of you escaped back to the cottage. Without hesitation, he shot the man, killing him. It was a better death than being eaten alive. He quickly took your hand in his and guided you back to the cottage. 
As soon as the two of you were in the safety of the cottage, it was your turn to do the commanding. You ordered Joel to go straight to the bathroom. He looked at you confused as he watched you barricade the doors and windows. He began to help but you refused and repeated your order. He sat on the edge of the tub with an old t-shirt pressed against his wound to soak up the blood as he waited for you. 
“What the fuck, Joel!” You exclaimed as you walked into the room. You sat on the toilet seat across from him and pulled out a first aid kit from under the sink. “What was that back there? We’ve only been married less than a week and you already tryna make me a widow?”
“I’m sorry, (Y/N), I’m confused at what part you’re mad at me about. Frankly, you’re not the one with an arrow lodged between their knuckles.” He retaliated. You snatched his wounded hand away from his chest and broke the tail of the arrow off to make pulling it out easier. 
“You weren’t thinking---”
“I was thinking; I was thinking about you! I was thinking about how that man had a weapon aimed right at you and I only had a second to do something about it.” He glared directly at you. “Fuck!” He hissed as you pulled the arrow through his hand, leaving a small, gaping hole.
“That’s not gonna be the worst of it.” You commented under your breath as you pulled out a bottle of peroxide. “You had a scope right there! But you decided to go run after the guy? He could have killed you, do you understand that? And what if there were more of them hiding? You alone would have gone up against a group of God knows how many with one good hand? Not even your dominant one at that. All you had to do was use your scope and take the shot and that would have been it. I would have even done it for you but you were already gone. I was scared for you.” He hissed again as the liquid contacted his skin. You gave it a few seconds before cleaning his wound with a damp cloth.
He let out a sigh and nudged the pieces of broken arrow on the floor. “This would have killed you. All I want to do is protect you, (Y/N). I didn’t mean to snap at you; I just needed to make sure you were safe. I could have used the scope, but I just...I just went for it. Next thing I knew, it was too late for that.” His eyes watched your hands gingerly wrap gauze around his right hand. “I didn’t want him to get another chance to hurt you.” His voice lowered. 
After you dressed his wound, you cooked dinner. Again, he tried to help, but you refused. You told him that he needed to rest, but he knew you were still upset with him. You thought about how the day had gone as the food cooked. You understood why he did what he did, but still wished he acted with his head first. You plated the food at the table and ate in relative silence.
After you cleaned up dinner, you found Joel sitting on the front porch with his rifle perched up against the house beside him. His body stiffened when he noticed you there in the doorway. Without words, you let him know you weren’t angry anymore. His eyes scanned yours for a moment before patting his thighs. You walked up and laid down on the bench with your head on his lap. His hand caressed your thigh under the fabric of the sundress you changed into.
“Do you think we’re safe enough to move the rest of the barricades?” You asked.
“Let’s leave them up until mornin’.” Joel replied. “I’m sorry, (Y/N), I mean it. I didn’t mean to scare you back there, but I can’t apologize for wanting to protect you. I’ve...I’ve lost enough in my life and I’ll be damned if I don’t do everything I can to keep what I have left safe.” You just silently soak up his words, not having the energy to respond. The two of you were quiet for a little while before he spoke up again. “What do you think about this place?”
“The cottage? It’s very nice. I love it.”
“Do you love it enough to move here?” He asked. You looked up at him but his gaze was fixed to something off in the distance. “We’d have peace and quiet and nature. With all this land, we can turn it into a ranch maybe. It’s up to you though.” He finally looked down at you.
“I love you so much for this, this nice little bubble that you made for our honeymoon. Everyday we've stayed here was peaceful, but I rather live in Jackson. That’s our home. It has everything and everybody we love.”
“Yeah, you’re right.” He nodded.
“...And this cottage here just isn’t big enough to start a family in.” You commented. 
He gave your thigh a gentle squeeze. “You do have a point there.” He smiled.

I dunno if this was a legit question asking for a legit answer, but I do happen to have a legit answer so I might as well give it! If I wanted to go into detals with it it’d take me forever though, so allow me to separate it into two points to make it easier
I learnt how to be very fast in putting down my lines and trained myself into not overthinking every single dot I put down. This took about five or six years of drawing daily and a whole life of drawing occasionally before then, because to do so you need to reach a point where you’re drawing something you’ve drawn so many times that by now your hand sort of goes without you needing to think about it much, so it’s not a fast process, but boy is it worth it. Mostly learning how to not overthink it, overthinking it used to be 90% of my time spent on a drawing and dear god did it suck the joy out of everything I drew
I have two very distinctive ways of approaching a drawing, one where I actually put effort in it and the other where I just want to let the squiggles out of my pen, and warm ups are the second one - the lack of effort I’m putting in can have different forms and show in different ways, so a warm up could be a fully colored piece as it could be just a pencil doodle, depending on where and on what exactly I’m being lazy: it could be the type of tool I’m using that allows me to draw without having to line, it could be a very tiny canvas that lets me avoid a ton of details a big canvas would demand. I might be cutting the time I usually put in making sure my anatomy is correct, I might be using a shading technique that takes a tenth of the time my usual one would, I might be using a style that’s just easier and faster to draw, or drawing characters I’ve drawn a trillion times in extremely generic poses and clothes. There’s a lot of things that I can do to make things faster for me! It’s skills you gain as you draw a lot - you learn how to draw things the hard way, and then you realize that along the way you learnt how to do them the easy way too

Ahhhhh thank you so much!!! And yeah, it might be! After all we do take a lot from the people we live with even without realizing, and he’s already so similar to his mom!

Ahhh god thank you so much!! And... hmm let’s see if I can word this properly and have it make sense - always keeping in mind that this is just my opinion, of course!
If all you want to do is to draw, then all you need to do is to pick up your pencil and draw - it’s really that easy as far as I’m concerned. You don’t need to know anatomy in depth to just draw, everyone has seen a person, everyone knows how a person looks. That is, if all you want to do is to draw for the sake of drawing. If you want to draw an anatomically correct looking human being, though, you do need to know how anatomy works - and the deeper you’ll go into studying it the more correct your people will look. It’s kind how everyone can draw a bicycle, but if you want to draw a realistic bicycle you’re gonna need to look up references for it, you know? It’s all on the level at which you’re interested in drawing, the more technically skilled you want to be the more you’ll have to study
As for my personal experience with this, I hate studying with a passion. Studying puts a damper on my enjoyement of everything, and drawing isn’t excluded from this - you put a book in front of me expecting me to study it and suddenly I never want to pick up a pencil again. This means that I never sat down and studied anatomy in depth and all in one go just to learn how to draw a human being, but it doesn’t mean that I didn’t, slowly and now and again and in bits and pieces, study parts of the body to get a better understanding of it. I know better about the skeleton than I do about muscles, and I still have enough to learn about everything that anyone who’s studied anatomy properly would find a trillion mistakes in everything I draw, but my way of going about drawing has always been and always will be putting my enjoyement of it first and foremost, so I’m not interested in putting myself through a tour-de-force to learn everything there is to know about anatomy just to make my doodles look appealing to someone with a medical degree haha I’m just doing me, and when the mood is right I look up how to properly draw something, but until then I just do it as best as I can with my limited knowledge, being fully aware that what I’m producing is far from accurate but being willing to make that compromise for my own comfort
So that’s my opinion on it lol it all boils down to how important it is for you to know how to properly draw the human body - of course it’s gonna look more professional and better if you’ve studied it, but everyone has their own priorities, you know?

Thank you!!!!!!!! So pretty much my way of learning this specific skill was being obsessed with elves when I was fifteen and wanting to draw them all the time  and also for whatever reason being convinced that they were not supposed to wear shoes so I just drew a lot of feet with references and tutorials and stuff till I could draw my elves properly. Which isn’t necessarily what you need to do to learn how to draw feet, but, I mean, it worked for me lol

Oh, I actually don’t care about that at all? I don’t expect most of them to become canon anyway - like, ochadeku sounds reasonable and kamijirou seems to be getting there, but everything else I never even considered it as an actual possibilily. I don’t really ship because I want to see my ships become canon, I just like the potential in what I can make with them? If that makes sense? They’re just fun to think about and I like making fancontent, that’s all there is to it really haha honestly if I had my way no ship would ever be canon ever ha ha ha
