for the love of god, write all the self-indulgent scenes you want. be utterly shameless about including every last fantasy. i know everyone likes to share quotes and quips about how miserably hard writing is, but please please try thinking of it as a joyful act where you get to be a messy human who makes art rather than some pain filled quest for icy perfection.

3.1.24 - writing resources for the new year
isn't lovely to feel like you have the opportunity to start fresh again? here are some fo the resources I'm using going into the new year!
flocus is a pomodoro app with pretty backgrounds, availability to be customized, and it also tracks your productivity streaks, which is definitely a motivational booster
in addition to this, flocus' newsletter, the flow, is a weekly email on how to be more productive! it's one of the things I like to tuck away in my inbox and read.
calmly is a blank page. all you need to do is bring the words.
medium doesn't necessarily focus on creative writing, but it's an interesting place to find similarly interested people and all kinds of articles
characterhub is a website community that promotes interaction among OCs (and is great for artists also!)
poetry foundation has an enormous collection of writing that's great to read for fun, or inspiration, or if you're in a slump
and not necessarily writing related, but here are other things that I've been trying out:
via li's youtube channel. something about it radiates warmth and I listen to her videos like podcasts.
baking! it's so comforting and I love seeing the results. smitten kitchen has the best recipes.
also knitting. not necessarily specific sites, but I have these ideas of all the things I want to make.
and that's all for now. however I did up my wordcount! I hit 15k today, so hopefully by next monday I'll have everything I need done. I'm working on deadlines for the first time for a project, and I can definitely feel the pressure.
tag any other websites below and I'll be sure to reblog them!

The AO3 Demographics Survey 2024 has arrived!
This project is an independent survey (not affiliated with AO3) which seeks to research the demographics and behaviours of AO3 users. The survey will take about 10-15 minutes to complete, will be open until 1 February, and can be found at https://forms.gle/2kt5J17ipzcAbnFY9
We are hoping to survey as large a group of users as possible, so we really appreciate anyone who shares the survey, whether by reblogging this post or sharing posts on other social media.
If you have any questions for us, we have FAQs on Tumblr or on AO3 which will be updated as the project progresses. And of course, you can follow us on Tumblr or AO3 if you want to see the survey results!

Did I daydream this, or was there a website for writers with like. A ridiculous quantity of descriptive aid. Like I remember clicking on " inside a cinema " or something like that. Then, BAM. Here's a list of smell and sounds. I can't remember it for the life of me, but if someone else can, help a bitch out <3

There also needs to be a button for “this is the 5000th time I’ve read your fic because I’m having a horrible day and this is the only thing in the world that always brings me happiness.”

To all my writers who have a tough time with smut terms and not knowing which ones to use, I have found the holy grail for us.
This reddit user took a poll of 3,500 people and went really in depth with asking their favorite terminology, along with actual pie charts on what the readers preferred to see in their smut.
Here's the direct link to the Google doc with all the info!

Thanks @angelswing236 and @gaitwae for the tag! 💕💕
To the untrained eye, Mary Crawley was completely unbothered. With one leg crossed over the other as she sipped at her champagne, she gave off the air of indifference. However, anyone who knew her— really, truly, wholeheartedly knew her— could see it was an act. Her dark eyes were focused on a particular couple on the dance floor, unblinking, and her hand was gripping the flute of champagne tighter than necessary.
“Care for a dance?”
Mary tilted her head upward, wondering who was asking. She bit back a sigh at the sight of Bertie’s friend, Henry. A part of her longed to accept, because sitting on the sidelines was excruciating, but accepting his invitation in order to instigate some retaliatory jealousy wasn’t going to work... and she wasn’t in the mood to play childish games, anyway.
tagging: anybody who wants to do this!
heads up 7 up
i was tagged by @emptyflowerpots to share 7 lines from one of my wips! thank you!!
Sorry it took so long lol, this is the first time I actually have a wip lmao
-
Letting out a deep breath, you told yourself to think nothing of it. He was your friend, and he was kind, that was all. Looking down at your phone as another message came through, your breath caught in your throat.
'I was also hoping you might be free for dinner tonight?'
'I'm free. Is something going on?'
You told yourself not to think too much of it, yet.
'No, I just wanted to see you, it's been a while since we've been able to spend some time together'
xx
Tagging (no pressure): @gaitwae, @will-grammer, @trashywritestrash, @magravenwrites, @cosplayingwitch and open tag for those who ant to share something! :)

when you know exactly how you want a scene to go but as soon as you sit down to write it you are suddenly staring at some of the worst sentences mankind has ever strung together.

i was tagged by @angelswing236 tysm!!! 💕💕
here are seven sentences from a WIP!
“Have fun,” said Mary flatly.
Patrick’s face screwed up. “I doubt I shall. I suspect I shall we working from dawn until dusk.”
Fine, then don’t have fun. “Don’t wear yourself too thin,” Mary said, settling for another platitude. After all, weren’t wives were supposed to care for the well-being of their husbands?
i’m not sure who has been tagged in this already, so if you haven’t done this already and would like to, go for it! i’d love to see what everyone is working on.

very occasionally when i am writing and stuck on how to get a scene to move in the direction i want or get the characters to behave the way i need them to, i like to do a little exercise called Wrongest Version
it's where you imagine the scene/characters going as Not the way you're aiming as possible and play it out as far as you can for shits and giggles
sometimes this leads to figuring out how to make the thing go right, and other times the wrongest version ends up being the rightest after all
