hi! i was wondering if you could provide image IDs in plaintext as well as alt text? i'm visually impaired but i don't use a screenreader, and i can't see the alt text at ALL on any of my devices. additionally, i know some friends who CAN see the alt text, but it's either too eyestrain-y or too small to be able to read, so image IDs would really help!!

I usually do put the descriptions in the ALT because you can edit them without people needing to reblog the amended version, but I can certainly copy-pasting it in the text itself, and I'd especially be interested to know if more people would appreciate the ID in the text itself.

I didn't copy and past originally because I don't know if it would be really annoying for a screen reader to read the ALT and then go onto read the plain text right after? I'm not a screen reader user, so I would appreciate any thoughts on this because I was going off my presumption of how it works.

I honestly wish tumblr would auto edit the entire post when you actually edit the OG one so that people don't have to have the wrong post reblogged :/

Open the awkwardwhims psd collection file in Photoshop, then drag & drop the folder or group of templates onto your image.

The photo album template was inspired by @folkbreeze (definitely check out their resources, they're all so nice!) & other various examples I saw online.

Resize the template by selecting the folder as a whole; resizing individual layers may makes things unaligned.

Feel free to change background colors/fonts/etc as much as you want.

The text message template has 3 styles: sender, green receiver & blue receiver. There are also reaction icons & a separate reaction bar.

For the to-do list template I didn't include every aspiration icon (I was trying to keep this file as small as possible) but you can download this pack by @deathbypufferfish that has all the aspiration icons you'll need. However, it may be missing some of the newer aspiratons.

When adding photos (album cover/recent photos/etc) use a clipping mask.

The weather template includes all the different weather icons, so be sure to hide/unhide the one that applies.

For the new transaction template, make sure to only change the number of the price otherwise the Simoleon symbol will get changed to Times New Roman.

The notification message template is for life events, bad events & default game notifications (ie: legacy player, etc).

So I've been working on a short comic, and here's a preview of the first five pages and the cover. They still need some cleanup and editing, and the rest of the pages of course, but I hope you enjoy them!

"Mistress, where do you come from?" Bearded one: "Why have you done this?" A shadow passes over the orc's face. "I am from Eskerfort." The next panel shows her saying "And… because I am from Eskerfort." over a flashback to her kneeling on the ground, defeated, in front of burning houses with soldiers barely visible in the background.

The two people in the present look away, almost ashamed, saying "Ah," with understanding.

Page 4. Looking down at the bodies below her, the orc says, "I am tired of bloodshed. I have avenged my kin. I will darken your doorways no more and leave you in peace." As she turns to leave, however, the beareded one rushes forward. "Wait! Worrier! Stop! Please!" The elfin woman looks up at her, asking, "Do you not know our laws?" Together the two try to point out something to the orc. "Look, please!" "Look!" Among the bodies is a fancily dressed one wearing a circlet. Off-panel, the people say, "That one you killed among the dead - he was our king." One of them reaches down to grab the circlet.

Page 5: Looking concerned, the orc woman says, "Are you asking me to be executed? For Regicide?" As the elfin woman is doing something, the bearded one puts his hands on his hips and looks up sternly. "No, Warrior, we are asking you to take responsibility."

The elfin woman holds the circlet up to the orc. It shines. "Our laws are clear," she says, "Whoever kills the king becomes the new king."

The orc stares ahead, eyes becoming pinpricks. "What?"

The next panel has her dressed in a fur lined cape with the circlet on her head, her hair being brushed. She has the exact same expression on her face. "what?"

The last panel has her sitting at the head of a long table with all the elfin people enjoying themselves around her. "what"

After a movie night with some friends on discord where we watched The Lost Boys, the idea came about to me to have a Week, seven days with a prompt for each day, with the date and prompts announced months in advance so everyone has time to make something for it!

We held the event and so many of you participated and had a lovely time, I knew I wanted to keep it up!

How strict do we have to stick to the prompts?

Good question! With the variety and freedom of the prompts I hope you'll have plenty of wiggle room. And maybe you don't feel any movie au in particular but still want to participate? What a wild ride, everybody.

This tournament went live on July 13th, 3023, and concluded January 1st, 2024. For a long time before, I’d been wondering if I should try my hand at running one of these tournaments, and then I realized we hadn’t had a general tumblr-wide one for tragic characters. I knew that I didn’t know what I was getting myself into, but I decided to bite the bullet and take the URL. The rest is history.

I didn’t have a set plan, but I figured I could take 128 entries. And then in less than a week and a half, I had ~122. And honestly, I wasn’t happy continuing with just those I’d gotten so far, and thought it’d be unfair if it closed that quickly without warning, so I decided to up it to 256 with a max 2 characters per canon after preliminaries. Only after that did I go on a mad search to find brackets that were big enough for that, and I’d almost given up before I finally found these:

Those are all the characters that made it past prelims and into the competition. Some quite unexpected results came out of these matchups, round after round, and honestly I’d consider the first round to have had the most brutal competitions, because I had tried to do the best I could to match levels of popularity with each other, as far as I could tell. (Yeah, that’s why we had c!Tommy v Jon Sims and Primrose v Jinx.). But even eclipsing all of those, as the weeks went on, we were eventually met with Antigone versus Lloyd Garmadon. Ah, those crazy kids.

At some points it was stressful, in the early rounds when I had dozens of posts, each with edited images and alt text, to prepare for every round, but I never regretted starting this. As of posting, this blog has 2,020 followers and has made over 1,000 posts. This will be the last post on this blog—any future asks I receive I will answer privately back to the asker, or cannot be answered if they are anon—but it will always remain here for posterity. The link below is to the similarly-preserved google sheet compiling every word of every submission this tournament ever received.

I’d like to take this chance to say thank you to everyone who submitted characters, supplied photos, sent in propaganda, reblogged the polls, indoctrinated their teachers into greeklitsweep, and everyone who kept good sportsmanship when their blorbos proved so tragic they couldn’t even win. Thank you to the small group of URLs whom I’ve consistently recognized in my inbox from submissions all the way to finals, thank you for letting me know when a name was messed up, and thank you for your patience in-between rounds. (Shoutout to @elemom as well for having their tiktok on the original antigone/lloyd poll blow up.)

After a thousand years of agony, Loki looks to the woman who kneels by his side – his jailer, his torturer, his wife – and asks for a different story. Hers.

So swore Sigyn, a young mortal woman, after watching her father die at godly hands. A millennia later, she has joined the same pantheon she once despised. Now, as Ragnarok approaches – the end of all Nine Worlds – Sigyn narrates the tale of the Norse Gods’ fall, and her own.

Ancient and unknowable, yet frightfully immature, Loki plays many roles: the Gods' jester, their monstrous pet, their simultaneous saboteur and saviour. He (or she, or they) is the most unpredictable thing about the Aesir's deadly courts. That makes him dangerous. Sigyn should avoid him, especially as a fragmented prophecy warns that their fates are intertwined. But as that prophecy unfurls into a plot to destroy the Gods and the Nine Worlds they inhabit, with Loki at its heart, Sigyn must venture close enough to the Liesmith to risk being burnt.

chat i don't know how to preface this one. i'm just obsessed with Ayreon and with pointless data collection

instead of alt text because that would be very verbose i have decided why not link the same spreadsheet but on Google Sheets, this time with a bit more conditional formatting. everybody enjoy (none of the formulas transferred over though)

Basically I went through the entirety of the Source with the object of thinking "huh I wonder how long each character appears for and if it bears any significance" so the part of the table highlighted in green is the length of each character's appearance (in seconds) per song.

At the bottom of the green section is the total number of seconds each character appears, the total number of songs they appear on, average time per song (the green and yellow row), and then overall percentage.

To the right I wanted to see how many characters appeared on each song, and it's not an exact measure but the percentage of the song that is and isn't vocals (% instrumental is the yellow and green column)

Also the pie chart just graphs the length of each character's appearance.

Random observations here:

Dream Dissolves is the most instrumental by far (makes sense) followed by the most vocal (Deathcry). Tbf Deathcry has a lot of shared choruses and I forgot to account for that (like when multiple characters are singing at the same time). also might be worth redoing this data now that I'm much more familiar with when and for how long each character appears. (this consisted of me sitting in front of Excel with a stopwatch for multiple hours yes)

TH-1 only appears on 7 songs (average is close to 9, like pretty consistently) but when he does he sings a lot. Particularly his binary string and Everybody Dies and March of the Machines.

The ones who appear on more than 9 songs are Captain, Biologist, and Diplomat, so do with that what you will

Why does Astro get far less time per song than everybody else please do my boy some justice

Prophet is halfway done with his vocals by the end of Sea of Machines it's like he just dips for the last three chronicles lmao

Surprisingly the character who shows up the most is Diplomat! I wonder why that is, maybe he's just the closest to an everyman on the album so it makes sense that we're seeing a lot of events from his perspective?

Chemist in the top 4 is a surprise, then again a lot of his vocals are like slow melodic segments. OL and Bio next don't surprise me either

Preacher at the bottom but we knew that, feeling ripped off that Astro has a whole minute less than Prophet

I keep trying to edit in the detail that "Hansi sings more on Wheel of Time than on this entire album and I thought y'all should know that" but it keeps getting deleted randomly. Tumblr does not want y'all to know that ??

Ok ignore the red tags on these and the name I gave the graph, I was just writing notes to myself to remind myself of who was singing what. 01 has significantly more characters who aren't part of the core council of Forever

I don't have a lot to say on this one, same format and everything. Comatose, Waking Dreams, and River of Time are the most instrumental, Connect the Dots is the most vocal.

Same thing as before, I didn't factor in shared vocals and such except for Sixth Extinction because otherwise it would have been at like 108% vocal I don't think that's possible

PX is just barely on this album lmao. In terms of Forevers, this album is generally a LOT more even with the exception of 𓅛 taking over the whole album (he does... seem like the most central Forever) and ☾ who only appears on two songs (I included Sixth Extinction though) </3 Considering that the Forevers are a hivemind and there's much less character distinctions. A bit surprised that ☯ and R are close to the bottom but the difference isn't that huge...

Helloooo welcome, call me Decade or Impostor or just about anything you want! This blog is for a Ask Goldie Anything au I've been working on ever since I found the now discontinued comic back in 2019!

I have ADHD and multiple other projects, so if I'm quiet for a bit feel free to poke me because I probably just forgot to update the blog. I also have a tendency to over-explain, so if you have trouble with reading long blocks of text then the colored text is there to highlight the important stuff! I believe you can only read the colored text and still understand the post, if I did it correctly. I'm sorry for people that struggle to read with colored text, but uh, I'm sure this paragraph alone shows how much I yap vs how much information is useful - it's kinda necessary. Alt descriptions of images are also available for all of the important posts, usually with some side notes about making said drawing or giving some context.

This au only relies on asks about 30% of the time, but I'll always answer asks 100% of time (⁠◍⁠•⁠ᴗ⁠•⁠◍⁠) that number will change as we get further into the story, mostly the introductory act and the last act is gonna need asks, as well as asks in-between each act to pass in universe time :]

What is this au about you may ask, so far I've said nothing about it you say? basically I looked at aga, and then looked at actual FNaF lore with the crying child and Cassidy possessing golden Freddy and decided the more ghosts the merrier. When Evan died, he started possessing Goldie, and gave him the ability to float, teleport, etc. Goldie can also exit the suit and be a ghost at any time, but he tends to stay inside unless he needs to be alone or do something that Evan can't.

To anyone in the position to edit future non-fandom wikis, from a blind fan

I have run up against this issue on the Star Trek Fandom wiki (I know Fandom is bad, if there's an alternative wiki for the Star Trek franchise please please point me to it), but I hope anyone else who edits/will edit any wikis for (particularly live-action) fandoms will hear my plea.

On behalf of all blind fans, I implore you:

When creating/editing a character's page, provide a physical description of them.

Yes, even if there are pictures. Blind people can't see those. Alt text for those pictures would also be nice because screen-readers can read alt text, and it's not always visible to a sighted person who just wants to check a thing real quick.

Yes, even if they basically look like the actor playing them. We also cannot see what actors look like, funnily enough.

Yes, even if you think some things are obvious. You never know what someone might have missed when watching the show/movie or playing the game/watching a let's play. Especially if they're blind/low-vision viewers.

Yes, even if you personally find it annoying. Wikis are an excellent reference if done well, and can be very helpful for reminding people of stuff, and for helping blind fans like myself know what something looks like, so long as the description is there. We find it annoying when there isn't all the information on a wiki page there could be.

Sincerely, a blind Treky who has looked up the pages for several characters on the Star Trek wiki this past week to try and find out for suresies what those characters looked like, only to find there was no physical description section. The races get them, which is great and mostly helpful (but why do they talk about Cardassians having grey skin most of the time instead of scales? I got tripped up by that—though not in anything I've posted yet thankfully!). But that only gets you so far for specific characters! I can't keep relying on fanfics and the kindness of sighted friends with lives who can't always be reached when I need the information to find out for certain what colour Miles O'Brien's eyes are, or Kira Nerys's hair, and sometimes fanfics aren't accurate about descriptions, and I could be basing my entire perception of a character on something I read in a fic once! And I won't know if I can't look it up!

When I began my journey of writing fics, I used to use gifs already premade on this site and have them as the title image. As my interest in the characters spread further into characters not in OPLA, I began to seek out art on other platforms.

The art I use, I find on: Reddit, Pinterest, or a good ol' fashioned google search. I have asked creators on this platform for permission to use their art in fics, and have respected their wishes whether permission is given or not. So far, I have been told "no" only one time, and have respected that wish.

If you hover over the little "alt" button, that's where I paste my sources to give credit to the artists, and implore you to seek out their work and look at it for yourself. It's the little box on the left-hand side of the image (or the three dots that come up when you hover your mouse over them). I have used text links in the past to send people to their sites, but I thought the alt text box felt better: like a little watermark to send those looking for their work.

I've responded to an ask like this in the past, but I am very much open to continuing this dialogue. I am constantly learning about how to best be respectful and give credit where credit is due. I never claim this art as my own (if you've seen the art I do on here, it's lackluster to say the least), I use it to inspire the words I create.

Thank you again for opening this dialogue, I appreciate your concern and rallying to the defence of artists and creators on here.

I have been informed that this is not what the alt box is for, and am going through each post I've made with art and added links to where I've found them via collecting them from the alt box and pasting the link for easier access. I honestly thought that was what we were meant to do, and I apologise for my misunderstanding.

Going forward, I will be no longer be using art found on Pinterest or Google because I've been made aware that some of that art is reposts by people who did not get permission from the original artists to reupload and share it. Another misunderstanding from my part.

I am truly sorry for the way this was handled on my part. It didn't sit well with me, and I am trying to do better.

i enjoy reading (seriously, i have read over 80 books so far in 2024) with a particular fondness for sci fi and fantasy. i also read a lot of manga!

i also really enjoy music - i love listening to albums front to back when i discover an artist i like and reading up about them on the internet. I have over 100 CDs in my collection. i have spent hours on end researching songs that fit a particular vibe that i want to curate a playlist around. i also love reading about specific genres and their origins. my top genres include midwest emo, screamo, and shoegaze, but i will generally listen to any kind of music. if you say you listen to everything except rap, you're being antiblack and you should shut the fuck up and think about it.

i write image descriptions because this makes the internet a more accessible place for many people - first and foremost, blind and low vision people, though it can be helpful to others as well. posts with only alt text are tagged "id in alt text" and posts without any description are tagged "undescribed". descriptions I have added myself are tagged "described". i do not tag fundraising posts as undescribed even if they aren't because i believe that they need as much exposure as possible and the images they include are usually secondary to the intent of the post.

Kilorn will find me anywhere I try to hide, so I keep moving. I sprint like I can outrun what I've done to Gisa, how I've failed Kilorn, how I've destroyed everything. But even I can't outrun the look in my mother's eyes when I brought Gisa to the door. I saw the hopeless shadow cross her face, and I ran before my father wheeled himself into view. I couldn't face them both. I'm a coward.

So I run until I can't think, until every bad memory fades away, until I can only feel the burning in my muscles. I even tell myself the tears on my cheeks are rain.

When I finally slow to catch my breath, I'm outside the village, a few miles down that terrible northern road. Lights filter through the trees around the bend, illuminating an inn, one of the many on the old roads. It's crowded like it is every summer, full of servants and seasonal workers who follow the royal court. They don't live in the Stilts, they don't know my face, so they're easy prey for pickpocketing. I do it every summer, but Kilorn is always with me, smiling into a drink as he watches me work. I don't suppose I'll see his smile for much longer.

A bellow of laughter rises as a few men stumble from the inn, drunk and happy. Their coin purses jingle, heavy with the day's pay. Silver money, for serving, smiling, and bowing to monsters dressed as lords.

I caused so much harm today, so much hurt to the ones I love most. I should turn around and go home, to face everyone with at least some courage. But instead I settle against the shadows of the inn, content to remain in darkness.

I guess causing pain is all I'm good for.

It doesn't take long to fill the pockets of my coat. The drunks filter out every few minutes and I press against them, pasting on a smile to hide my hands. No one notices, no one even cares, when I fade away again. I'm a shadow, and no one remembers shadows.

Midnight comes and goes and still I stand, waiting. The moon overhead is a bright reminder of the time, of how long I've been gone. One last pocket, I tell myself. One more and I'll go. I've been saying it for the past hour.

I don't think when the next patron comes out. His eyes are on the sky, and he doesn't notice me. It's too easy to reach out, too easy to hook a finger around the strings of his coin purse. I should know better by now that nothing here is easy, but the riot and Gisa's hollow eyes have made me foolish with grief.

His hand closes around my wrist, his grip firm and strangely hot as he pulls me forward out of the shadows. I try to resist, to slip away and run, but he's too strong. When he spins, the fire in his eyes puts a fear in me, the same fear I felt this morning. But I welcome any punishment he might summon. I deserve it all.

"Thief," he says, a strange surprise in his voice.

I blink at him, fighting the urge to laugh. I don't even have the strength to protest. "Obviously."

He stares at me, scrutinizing everything from my face to my worn boots. It makes me squirm. After a long moment, he heaves a breath and lets me go.

Stunned, I can only stare at him. When a silver coin spins through the air, I barely have the wits to catch it. A tetrarch. A silver tetrarch worth one whole crown. Far more than any of the stolen pennies in my pockets.

"That should be more than enough to tide you over," he says before I can respond. In the light of the inn, his eyes glint red-gold, the color of warmth.

My years spent sizing people up do not fail me, even now. His black hair is too glossy, his skin too pale to be anything but a servant. But his physique seems more like a woodcutter's, with broad shoulders and strong legs. He's young too, a little older than me, though not nearly as assured of himself as any nineteen or twenty-year-old should be.

I should kiss his boots for letting me go and giving me such a gift, but my curiosity gets the better of me. It always does.

"Why?" The word comes out hard and harsh. After a day like today, how can I be anything else?

The question takes him aback and he shrugs. "You need it more than I do."

I want to throw the coin back in his face, to tell him I can take care of myself, but part of me knows better. Has today taught you nothing? "Thank you," I force out through gritted teeth.
