WIP Wednesday
I mean to do these more often than I do but Wednesday is usually my busiest day of the week because its the day I actually have to do a work commute longer than the 10 feet from my bed to my desk XD
Anyway, when the year started I wanted to have the angsty aroace!Mario fic written for Valentine's Day/AroSpec Awareness Week but then I looked at what I had left to write for it and how much time I had and there was no way I was finishing it within that deadline, lmao. So I put it down and decided to work on some other WIPs instead; I have some outlines and ideas from late 2020/early 2021 that I can knock out real quick, with how much my writing skills have progressed. And it would be nice to actually put a tangible dent in my WIP pile for once. I already wrote two of them, and luckily I have a different aro!Mario WIP half-outlined that I can definitely write and finish in time for ASAW so I think I'm going to focus on that, now. It's not much to do with Mario being aro itself (aside from Peach being mad about amatonormativity for a bit, ha); it'll probably mostly be, like, platonic cuddling and junk. But it'll be nice to get another entry in the aro!Mario series after so long…It's really hard to get ideas for new fics for it :(
This also means I have to pause the WIP I was actively in the middle of working on, which was a late-2020 idea about Kamek accidentally shrinking himself and Mario deciding to mind him. Because I don't know if I'm looking in the wrong places or something, but its really hard to find fics where people are shrunken that aren't, like, Borrowers fusions or a vore thing. Which, no shade to either of those, but they aren't the vibe I'm after, haha. But I suspect the shared change in perspective and helpless vulnerability and having to trust someone who could just crush you if they wanted etc etc etc is still fueling it all regardless :)
So anyway here's some of the tiny!Kamek fic because I won't be working on it for a hot minute —
“Either that spell I’d cast was more powerful than I’d realized,” Kamek slowly said, “Or I somehow managed to shrink myself, instead.”
“...”
“I’d shrunk myself, didn't I.”
Mario’s mustache curled up in amusement. Kamek ground his teeth and fumed. Of all the stupid mistakes to make...!
Despite his magic reserves being low, Kamek reached into his sleeve for his wand; whether to put himself back to normal or knock the amusement off Mario’s face, he couldn't say. Either way, his hand came out empty. And it did so the second time Kamek rummaged in in his sleeve, and the third, and the fourth, and the —
Absolutely not panicking, Kamek dove back into the tree hollow to overturn every dead leaf and stick pile and moss clump in search of his wand. He didn't find it, of course, and he spared a moment or two to just stand there, head in hands. With how today was going, he’d probably dropped it just after miscasting that spell. On the very dim bright side, though, at least he knew why his broom wasn't working; those enchantments weren't designed to play nice with these sort of shrinking spells. Kamek sighed. Curse Lord Bowser and his incessant, almost impossible demands...
Kamek lifted his head to find Mario peering through the opening of the tree hollow, watching him with a furrowed brow, considering Kamek’s misfortune. He backed up to allow Kamek to leave, and once Kamek stood upright, he extended a hand to him.
“I don't need your help,” Kamek snapped. Ignoring Mario’s hand, he turned on his heel, marched a few steps, tripped over a protruding bit of exposed bark, and lost his balance. His next step was on empty air, at a height borderline unsurvivable, with little but a broken broom to break his fall.
So he fell. And he hit the ground. Sooner than he’d expected, considering. Kamek unscrewed his eyes and found the surface he’d landed on was whiter than he’d expected, as well. And then it moved, and Kamek lost the little balance he’d been barely holding on to. Mario’s worried face filled Kamek’s vision, and he realized that he wasn't dead because Mario had caught him.
“...I suppose I should thank you,” Kamek eventually said, with no intention of thanking Mario. Mario huffed, but still watched him, lips pursed in thought. He was being quieter than usual, and that combined with the sudden awareness of just how vulnerable he was —  many fractions his size, unable to cast any spells, sitting on his archenemy’s palms high in the air — had Kamek swallowing nervously.
“You can put me down, now,” Kamek hesitantly said, because Mario was a good guy, and he would do that. For sure. Hopefully.
Except Mario didn't. Instead, he transferred Kamek to one hand, opened the front pocket of his overalls with the other, and dumped Kamek in there as if he was some common —
Kamek struggled to right himself in the small, mostly enclosed space. “Wh — You —!” he sputtered. “How dare you — !”
Mario chuckled at Kamek’s indignation. The vibrations of it rumbled through Kamek's body, and the whole ‘you’re very tiny and powerless and more-or-less at your archenemy’s mercies right now’ dilemma screeched back to the forefront of Kamek’s mind. So he shut his mouth with a clack, thinking better of poking his head out of the pocket to give Mario a piece of his mind. Through the meager opening above him he saw Mario give him one last look before starting to move; with the way the world shifted probably meant he was at a brisk walk, down the forest path to who-knew-where.
Kamek sighed, making himself comfortable the best he could given the circumstances. Well... at least Mario wasn't likely to let Kamek get accosted by wildlife again. And besides, all Kamek had to do was wait until he could scrounge up enough magic to cast spells again; though he was still without his wand, he’d still be free to ditch Mario and make his own way back to the base for his spare wand and broom. And then he could make Mario pay for this indignity ten-fold.

ASAW - Day Four Post 21/2/2024
ASAW - Aromantic Spectrum awareness week.
https://www.arospecweek.org - Link to ASAW Website
Links to other days:
[1]---[2]---[3]---[5]---[6]---[7]
Day four - Aro celebrities
This is just going to be me listing some known aromantic celebrities.
Jaiden Animations
I feel like Jaiden is quite well known within the community. She identifies as arospec and made a video on her orientation a few years ago which I highly recommend. She’s a very talented animator on YouTube and a highly recommend checking out her content.
The video is linked below ⬇️
youtube
Alice Oseman
Alice is well known as being the author of heart stopper. I had no idea she was aromantic until I started doing research for this post so that’s cool. She’s written a book called ‘Loveless’ which is about aromanticism. I’ve never read it personally but it’s well liked by a lot of people. Heartstopper also includes an aromantic character.
Cavetown
He’s a singer/ songwriter known in real life as Robbie. He has said he’s on the aromantic spectrum. He’s a popular singer who’s openly arospec and has helped to bring attention to the community which I’m grateful for.
Keri Hulme
Keri Hulme was a poet and writer who sadly passed away in 2021. She identified as aromantic and her orientation is referenced in her work. I’ve included a link to a tumblr post about one of her works that makes particular reference to her orientation.
Julie Sondra Decker
Julie is a writer among other things who identifies as aromantic. She was involved in the creation of a book called Ace and Aro journeys. Julia is proudly aromantic and uses her platform to talk about her orientation.
(Please let me know if I’ve made any mistakes about the identities of any of these people and feel free to reblog/ comment more that I haven’t mentioned)
If you want to know more about any of this, message me, drop an ask, comment, reblog whatever you want and I’ll do my best to help :)
Happy aro spec awareness week!

ASAW 2023
Prompt 4: Share with us a poem, song or short story or written piece about ASAW
This will be my first time ever officially participating in an aromantic event. This will also be - though I’ve been out as aro online since 2021 - my first real ASAW. Last year, I feel like I was still trying to understand what the broader aro community was like. I was still trying to scope out what people were reading and writing about, what people talked about, what all the different concepts meant. To that extent, it was a time of educating myself.
Now though, I feel like I’m a little better equipped to write about it. So, I think I’ll try write a little something for this week. I do want to use my talents to contribute to queer community building in some way, after all.
I’m pretty excited for this upcoming week. In particular, I look forward to all the conversations that’ll happen this week, both with arospec folk I know offline and online. In my attempts to read and learn more about aromantism - the concept, the identity, the people - in the previous year, I feel like I’ve been introduced to so many new and interesting concepts and ideas. But I had simply been a spectator during that time, hearing about other people’s thoughts and experiences while rarely contributing my own views. Now, with what I know, I feel like I am much better equipped to take part in discussions. That’s something new to me, and I don’t think I’ll be bringing anything truly innovative to the table. But I think I will enjoy this feeling of actively being involved. Taking part in something, with other people, as opposed to merely watching and learning.
There’s so much that an aro perspective can bring to things. Everything from relationships to economics, from housing to stories. And I feel like, with how young the aro community is relative to a lot of other queer communities, there are still so many more avenues and areas of interest to explore, discuss, and think about through an aro lens. I would love to hear about the views and thoughts of aros from different cultures, different stages of life, different orientations, who lead different lifestyles, aros who fall on different parts of the spectrum. And though I may be pretty young, with so much more life to live and so many more experiences to have, I hope that I can contribute something interesting to someone somewhere this aro week.
This aro week, I shall participate as actively as I can. I’m looking forward to the experience, and to all arospecs, I hope you have a good one this year!

ok ive decided to give yall a coming-out timeline bc its just smth ive been struggling with for a while.
i figured out i was bi in late 2019, on a student transfer sem in guatemala. i told all my friends that i was bi when i came back in 2020 (mid jan), my brother in marchish 2020, and then i accidentally outed myself to my mom! i had posted some meme about being bi on my story again and my mom finally figured out that i wasnt just a huge ally, and then made it very clear that that was inappropriate for me. like i wasnt allowed to be bi bc i was too young (i was 15 for context). this kind of ruined our relationship, and i then came out again (by purchasing a lesbian pride flag and hanging it on my door) and she never brought it up lol.
then, in 2021, i started questioning my gender which was so! fun! i went by they/them in school for all of year 11. i then shifted back to she/her bc it didnt feel right, but that was worse? my gender was demi-girl for a hot minute there, and i was still lesbian, but i thought men were “aesthetically pleasing”. 🤦
in 2022, i gave the fuck up lol. i was just queer. people would ask if i liked girls, id say yes, people would ask about my gender, i would say “idk i go by she/they”. that was about it. that was probably because of biphobia that i didnt just call myself bi, but also i think my mother’s reaction to my coming-out definitely made me become “full gay” (ik thats not correct, but i wanted to show her that i would never “be straight”) i was still wondering if something was wrong with me though. everyone i knew had been in a relationship, and my only one lasted 2 weeks, and i was just full of anxiety and ended it horribly. i loved flirting with them, and it was crackin fun, but the moment they asked me out i lost all interest. i still said yes, we went on a few (very slay) dates, i asked them to be my bf, and from the outside it was great! then i couldnt deal with the lie and told them i didnt like them like that (like a dick) and then ghosted them!
2023, my last year before uni, and ive almost got it all! i still dont like thinking about my gender, bc its just a lot, so she/they is just my go-to. i figured out in late y12 that i was in-fact bisexual, so thats a help lol. and now, after struggling with my general identity for a while, i think arospec is what im going to go with!
Shoutout to aroallos, non-sam aros, aromids, neu aros, and any other aros who aren't necessarily also asexual. We are often forgotten in conversations about aro issues and wider aspec issues and it's exhausting. Aromanticism is not a subset nor does it require asexuality

Post 5: What Is My Aromantic Label?
This is a brief/incomplete guide. Visit lgbta.wikia.org/wiki/Aromantic_Spectrum to learn more and find more labels!
Happy Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week 2021 💚🖤
Each day I’ll be posting something to spread awareness and positivity about aros!
Post 1: It’s a Spectrum; Post 2: Aromantics Aren’t Broken; Post 3: What Not To Say to Aros; Post 4: Aros Are Awesome; Post 6 (Final Post): Have Pride!
[ID: A infographic with arrows pointing to rounded corner blocks that have the name and definition of a aromantic spectrum label based on factors and yes/no questions. From the title block “What is my aromantic label?” four arrows point to four blocks, two on each side. First block on the left is “Alicoromantic: I know I’m somewhere on the Aro-spec but no Aro-spec label fits or I don’t know which Aro-spec fits me best”. Second block, below first, is “Aroallo: I am aro or aro-spec and also allosexual (not asexual)”. On the right the first block is “Greyromantic: I relate with aromanticism, yet feel there are parts of my experience that aren't fully described by the word aromantic”. Second block, below first, is “Quoiromantic: I challenge or reject romantic orientation as not personally useful, don’t know my romantic orientation, or don’t want to define my orientation”.
From the title block an arrow points upward to “Am I repulsed by/aversed to romance?”. “Kinda” points upward to “Acoromantic: I want to act on my romantic attraction but I have a strong aversion to do so because of apprehension or bad experiences with romantic relationships or activities”. “Yes” points to the right, then up, then right again to two blocks, with “or” in between them (all multiple blocks have “or” between them). First block is “Apothiromantic: I am romance repulsed, either for myself or in general. I don’t seek out romantic relationships and dislike romantically coded acts like kissing or cuddling”. Above it, second block is “Omniaromantic: I do not feel romantic attraction under any circumstances, I am not interested in engaging in romantic activities or relationships, and I don’t wish to talk about romance or romantic activities”. “No” points to the left to “Do I desire romantic relationships?”. “Yes” points up to “Cupioromantic: I do not experience romantic attraction but I still desire a romantic relationship. I may also sometimes feel romantic attraction but want a relationship even without that attraction”. “No” points to the left, then up, then to the right, and then down to two blocks. First block is “Aegoromantic: I enjoy the concept of romance but have a disconnect between myself and romance. I enjoy romance in media, but don’t desire a relationship. My romantic fantasies may be viewed from a third-person perspective where I'm just a disembodied observer”. Second block is “Bellusromantic: I am interested in traditionally romantic activities, like kissing/cuddling, but not in the context of a romantic relationship. I don’t feel romantic attraction and don’t want a romantic relationship”.
From the title block an arrow points downward to “Dependent romantic attraction” which an arrow then points to the right to “Aliquaromantic: I only experience romantic attraction under certain circumstances. This can be considered an umbrella term”. Arrow points down to “Is my attraction dependent on other’s feelings?” and “Yes” points downward to three blocks. First block is “Apresromantic: I experience romantic attraction only after another attraction is felt, such as platonic, aesthetic, sensual, and/or sexual attraction”. Second block is “Demiromantic: I don’t experience romantic attraction until I have formed a deep emotional connection (platonic, sexual, or other) with someone”. Third block is “Frayromantic: I only experience romantic attraction towards those that I am not deeply connected with, and I lose that attraction as I get to know the person”. “No” points to left and then down to three blocks. First block is “Lithromantic: I may experience romantic attraction but I do not want it reciprocated, and I am uncomfortable at the thought of someone being romantically attracted to me”. Second block is “Proculromantic: I only feel romantic attraction to those who I can never be in a relationship with, such as fictional characters, or celebrities”. Third block is “Recipromantic: I do not experience romantic attraction unless I know that the other person is romantically attracted to me first”. From title block an arrow points down and then left to “Fluctuating aromanticism” and another arrow points to three blocks below it. First block is “Aroflux: My romantic orientation fluctuates but generally stays on the aromantic spectrum. I may feel very strongly aromantic one day and less aromantic another day”. Second block is “Aro-jump: I am normally alloromantic, but I experience sudden and intense brief spikes of aromanticism before returning just as suddenly to my normal alloromanticism”. Third block is “Arospike: I experience rare and sudden spikes of romantic attraction for a varied amount of time (one day to months) before returning to my normal level of aromanticism”.
In the middle of the infographic at the top there is a block titled “Neurodivergent”. Arrow points up to “Arovague: My orientation is partially or fully influenced by my neurodivergency”. From main block arrow points right, then up, and then right again to “Nebularomantic: I can’t distinguish the difference between romantic and platonic attraction”. "Neurotypical?” points downward to “Platoniromantic”. From main block arrow points down to “Requisromantic: I have limited or no romantic attraction, interest, or activity due to emotional exhaustion from romantic experiences, dealing with romance, or from something else that is emotionally draining”. End description.]

Let's give a big, warm shout-out to some less common types of arospecs, shall we?
If you're aroflux, cupioromantic, placioromantic, aegoromantic, bellusromantic, lithromantic, apothiromantic, idemromantic, frayromantic, recipromantic, quasiromantic, quoiromantic, or another uncommon arospec identity, you're truly wonderful and valid! Y'all deserve so much more visibility and acceptance, and I sincerely hope that one day you get it. Have an amazing day, you fantastic arospecs!
