You have any cool trivia about the time Axis America attacked the Perisphere, and they were seen off by the Young All-Stars? All I know is the weird trivia that both groups had line-ups that seem eerily similar to each other and to the Justice League.

(Sidenote, are there any theories about that?)

Sure. The Battle of Flushing Meadows (named after the park where the Trylon and the Perisphere now sit) was actually the inaugural battle of the Young All Stars, who certainly weren't a team the All Stars had expected to put together.

The Axis Amerika was interesting because, as its name implied, it was not a team active on the actual fronts of the war but was a fifth columnist group made up of homegrown fascist elements from right here in the USA, recruiting mostly for American fascist groups. Its lineup was majority German-American but on member "Usil, the Sun Archer" was later identified as an Italian-American and they had attempted to recruit young Nisei Miya Shimada to their cause after her parents were interned from their home on the west coast.

The team was "assembled" more or less because they happened to be present when the attack went down. Axis Amerika's target had of course been the All Stars themselves. Team members Johnny Quick and Liberty Belle were quickly taken out of the fight when Iron Munro, Flying Fox and Fury jumped in, holding off the fascist invaders long enough to force a retreat when Green Lantern arrived.

Neptune Perkins and Tsunami (who Axis Amerika had previously tried to recruit) were inducted into the "team" along with Dan the Dyna-Mite who had recently lost his beloved partner TNT in a battle with nazi saboteurs where he and Munro had first met.

Now having this small but notable group of underage superhumans needing guidance, the All Stars decided basically on a whim to assemble the group into a team. The All Stars, despite the nature of their membership, were always low on manpower so a few extra hands were not going to be refused due to age (especially since a good chunk of the Squadron's membership already had young partners or wards) As for the second part of your question, you're not wrong. Both teams and the most iconic lineups of the JLA have: Invulnerable and Super Strong (Ubermensch/Iron Munro/ Superman) Based off of flying, nocturnal animals (Great Horned Owl/Flying Fox/Batman) Female warrior with basis in pagan mythology (Gurda/Fury/Wonder Woman) Young sidekick to a more expirienced fighter (The Bat/Dyna-Mite/Robin)

Aquatic superhuman (Sea Wolf/Neptune Perkins/Aquaman) and Archer (Usil/Tigress/Green Arrow)

I really couldn't tell you why though, other than the stars aligning to place these archetypes at these moments in time. Whether that coincidence has some sort of meaning for you is a question for a spirit medium, not a historian.

I love Iron Munro being Roy Thomas's remake of the Golden Age Superman mixed with the mythos of Hugo Danner, an old pulp hero. But I want to elevate it, and make him a bit more like a backwards Superman. Iron Munro was a human being born in the 1930s, who grows up on Olympus. At this point, I'm making a new character with the same name, a character who's like 50% Golden Age Superman, 50% Jason Grace from the Heroes of Olympus (and also 50% holy polytheistic crusader fighting against an evil christian). But let me explain in more detail:

In 1928, the roman god Jupiter fell in love with a mortal woman in Cleveland by the name of Anna Munro. Anna was married to a cruel, heartless man named Hugo Danner, heir to a rich publishing company based out of Cleveland. Hugo was a nihilistic womanizer, constantly cheating on his wife just to try and feel something in life. What drove Hugo to become like this, you might ask? Well, to understand that, we need to understand his family history.

Hugo Danner was born in 1893. His father was a mad scientist obsessed with eugenics and with creating the perfect human. To do this, he conducted highly unethical experiments on his wife and on animals he kidnapped. Eventually discovering a formula to make a man super strong, this mad scientist shot the formula into his wife's pregnant belly. This led to Hugo Danner being born a virtual superman, genetically superior to all other men in all ways, physically and mentally.

But perhaps because he was raised by a mad scientist obsessed with eugenics, Hugo never had a normal childhood. He was taught to see himself as above others. He inherited his father's lucrative fortune in 1908, and he used it to build a business empire. He got married in 1915, but the marriage ended in 1918, shortly after she gave him his first son. He then divorced her and took the son, because he felt no love for this woman so far below him.

He then met Anna in 1920, and he wooed her tremendously. But she eventually realized it was pretty much all an act. Hugo was never satisfied with just her. He would constantly be pursuing other women, all just so he could try to feel less like a god. He barely ever felt like a normal man, and he certainly didn't feel any form of fondness or attachment to anyone. So his only form of feeling came from commuting countless affairs.

In any case, Jupiter took pity on anna when he met her, and he slowly began to fall in love with her. If her husband wouldn't be there for her, he could at least offer her a tender word or two. Eventually, this led to them having a one night stand together, and anna subsequently ended up pregnant with his child.

When Arnold Munro was born in the spring of 1930, Hugo immediately knew the child wasn't his. Especially since he hadn't slept with Anna in months. Accusing her of cheating on him (the exact same thing he repeatedly did to her) Hugo tries to kill her! Strangling her and throwing boiling water at her, Jupiter intervenes. He sends lightning crashing through the house, destroying it and killing Hugo Danner with 500 million volts of electricity. For all his superhuman might, hugo danner was no god. He died then and there, a callous and bitter 37 year old man.

In shock at what happened (and subsequently at realizing she slept with a god), Anna's mind breaks and she dies of a heart attack right then and there. Witnessing all this was hugo's 12 year old son by his first marriage, Harrison Danner (who had inherited some of his father's great powers). Seeing a god kill his father, Harrison swore revenge if it was the last thing he did. He would not rest until he got to kill Jupiter and his filthy step-sibling, Arnold Munro.

But now that Arnold was fundamentally homeless (and since I definitely can't get away with having him living in Camp Jupiter, or raised by that filthy, eugenicist wolf called lupa), Jupiter takes pity on his son. He knows there's no place for him on this world of men. So he takes him to Olympus, to live as one of Dii Consentes. One of the holy gods in the roman halls of olympus (not those "barbaric greek ones", as his more uncivilized form of Zeus would want).

So from here, Arnold Munro grew up on the roman olympus, the demigod who curried the favour of all the gods. He even earned himself a nickname, the name of fortissimo (which means very courageous in Latin). From 1934/1935 to 1981, Arnold lived with the Roman Gods. Mars was his trainer, and Jupiter and Minerva his teachers in Wisdom and Diplomacy. He had the best teachings the gods could provide, and he became one of the strongest demigods to ever live.

The gods bestowed many blessings upon him for his valorous deeds, the biggest of which was his gift of bulletproof skin. He also has control over the winds and the storms, the finest training in roman military tactics, and a special weapon: a spear charged with the power of jupiter's powerful lightning bolts. With Flesh of Iron and Blood of Olympus, he is Iron Munro, the Champion of Rome!

Around 1985 (when the crisis on infinite earths occurred, and arnold was approaching 60 years on olympus), the romans sent him to earth on a mission. Faith in the old myths is decaying. You must go out and restore faith. Prove to them all the power of Rome has never once faltered! Those two-bit christians and monotheists have destroyed our temples, and we must rebuild!

Sent onto the world of his birth in 1986 (one of a few worlds that amalgamated after the crisis to form a New Earth unique to the Post Crisis universe), Iron Munro sets out proving the worth of his people. And the first step was to go to Cleveland and finally get revenge on his step-brother. Harrison Danner is now a 68 year man who's continued the lecherous ways of his father and the corruption of his company. He's had 6 wives in 68 years, and he's had 3 kids from three of the different marriages. He's disowned all of his kids, too.

But besides just being a lecher and an abuser, Hugo Danner has spent the last 56 years since he saw his dad killed building a megachurch dedicated to stamping out any and all roman influence in society. Him and his band of christian zealots call themselves "The Warriors of Truth", but Iron Munroe has arrived to show they're anything but.

Breaking into one of their meetings, Arnold leads an attack on his brother. The attack is fierce but precise, the same way Mars taught him. The holy zealots realize their bullets don't affect him, and he calmly storms up to his brother and hits him with a punch of pure iron! Throwing him off the stage, Arnold Munro then calls upon the might of his father to send an arc of lightning running up and down Harrison's spine!

By the time Arnold is done, Harrison Danner is paralyzed, stuck in a wheelchair and unable to talk. But his brain still functions, and this mad religious hypocrite still plans revenge from his care facility. He will kill the filthy sinner that is Iron Munroe, and he will prove that Jupiter is a false god! But while he seethes, Danner publishing co is bought out by a more inclusive company, S&S (Siegel and Shuster) Publishing.

And with his mortal mother and his olympian family finally avenged, Arnold Munro heads out into the woods of the far northern yukon, where he lives hidden from mortal civilization. Or well, hidden for around 2-3 years. Because by 1988/1989, he winds up a founding member of the Justice League of the New Earth.

BBC acquires new Australian crime thriller Scrublands

The BBC has acquired new Australian crime drama Scrublands, based on the award-winning novel written by Chris Hammer, for BBC Four and BBC iPlayer.

The four-part series from Australian production company Easy Tiger (Colin from Accounts, The Twelve) stars Luke Arnold (Black Sails, Never Tear Us Apart: The Untold Story of INXS), Jay Ryan (It Chapter Two, Top of the Lake) and Bella Heathcote (CAUGH*T, Relic).

Scrublands is set in an isolated country town, where a charismatic and dedicated young priest (Jay Ryan) calmly opens fire on his congregation, killing five parishioners. One year later investigative journalist Martin Scarsden (Luke Arnold) arrives in Riversend to write what should be a simple feature story on the anniversary of the tragedy. But when Martin's instincts kick in and he digs beneath the surface, the previously accepted narrative begins to fall apart and he finds himself in a life and death race to uncover the truth.

The cast also includes Robert Taylor (The Newsreader), Adam Zwar (Squinters), Zane Ciarma (Neighbours), Victoria Thaine (Nowhere Boys), Stacy Clausen (True Spirit), Genevieve Morris (No Activity) and newcomer Ella Ferris.

Scrublands (4 x 50) was acquired by the BBC from Abacus Media Rights who have international distribution rights for the series. It was produced by Easy Tiger for Stan Australia and the Nine Network. Produced by Ian Collie, Rob Gibson, David Redman and Felicity Packard, the series is directed by Greg McLean and written by Felicity Packard, Kelsey Munro and Jock Serong.

Detective George Holmes testified that a car owned by R. V. Arntfield, was stolen Bay St. and Albert St. from on May 11.

If anyone remembers back to me bringing up how i thought DC could have made a third earth after the crisis on infinite earths, a "New Earth" to serve as the world of the modern age? Well, I haven't yet thought of a good name for a Justice League or Justice Society equivalent on that world (i tried justice guild, but it doesn't have a good ring to me). In any case, i did think of a possible lineup for that team. I thought it could be something like this:

1. Iron Munro (Arnold Munro):

2. Owlman (Thomas Wayne Jr): Yes, it's the same Owlman from the anti-matter universe's crime syndicate. During the crisis, he fell through an interdimensional wormhole and it landed him on this new earth. Now given a second chance, he's going to make the most of it.

3. Wonder Woman (Diana Prince/Diana of Themyscira): The Wonder Woman of the New Earth is more explicitly Greek. Themyscira's patrons are Artemis, Aphrodite, Hera, etc. And some of Wonder Woman's biggest godly enemies consist of people like Mars or Saturn.

4. The Flash (Avery Ho): A new version of The Flash created for this new earth. Avery is a 21 year old chinese-canadian from toronto.

5. Green Lantern (Kyle Rayner)

6. Some sort of Aquaman equivalent. Maybe I'll bring out Neptune Perkins from Roy Thomas's New All-Stars, or maybe I'll try to think of a new water based character that isn't a rip-off of Aquaman or Namor or anything.

7. Icon (Arnus of Terminus/Augustus Freeman IV): This team's equivalent to the Martian Manhunter (with some elements of superman thrown in there too).

Luke Arnold, Bella Heathcote and Jay Ryan to star in new Stan Series Scrublands as the explosive trailer is released

A star-studded cast are preparing to bring a gripping crime novel to life on Stan.

Luke Arnold (Black Sails, Never Tear Us Apart: The Untold Story of INXS), Bella Heathcote (Stan Original Series CAUGH*T, Stan Original Film Relic) and Jay Ryan (It Chapter Two, Top of the Lake) will star in the brand new Stan Original Series Scrublands.

The Stan Original Series Scrublands premieres November 16, all episodes at once and only on Stan.

The TV adaptation is based on the best-selling novel written by Chris Hammer, and you can watch the first trailer in the video above.

We don't have long to wait, as the series will be released in full on November 16 on Stan.

Scrublands is set in an isolated country town, where a charismatic and dedicated young priest (Ryan) calmly opens fire on his congregation, killing five parishioners.

One year later investigative journalist Martin Scarsden (Arnold) arrives in Riversend to write what should be a simple feature story on the anniversary of the tragedy.

But when Martin's instincts kick in and he digs beneath the surface, the previously accepted narrative begins to fall apart and he finds himself in a life and death race to uncover the truth.

Joining Arnold, Ryan, and Heathcote in the cast are Zane Ciarma (Neighbours), Adam Zwar (Squinters), Victoria Thaine (Nowhere Boys), Robert Taylor (The Newsreader), Stacy Clausen (True Spirit), Genevieve Morris (Stan Original Series No Activity) and newcomer Ella Ferris.

The series is an Easy Tiger production co-commissioned by Stan and the 9Network, in association with VicScreen.

Easy Tiger Founder Ian Collie and CEO Rob Gibson said they immediately saw the potential in turning the novel into a gripping series.

"From the moment we opened Chris Hammer's ripping page-turner, we knew Scrublands was destined to be a must-watch crime series," they said.

"We're delighted that our partners at Stan and Nine agree wholeheartedly, and we're thrilled to work with the incredible team there to bring this to the screen, with the crucial support of VicScreen and international partners Abacus.

"In the masterful hands of director Greg McLean, writer/producer Felicity Packard and writers Kelsey Munro and Jock Serong, and producer David Redman, Scrublands will be an unmissable TV event for rusted-on Chris Hammer fans and everyone else alike."

Scrublands marks the second co-commission between 9Network and Stan following the Stan Original Series Bali 2002, an inspiring drama exploring how everyday heroes from Bali, Australia and beyond defied the odds to bring order from chaos and hope from despair.

Stan Chief Content Officer Cailah Scobie promised the new thrilled would be both "powerful and compulsive".

She said of the new series: "Following the immense success of Bali 2002, Stan is delighted to once again co-commission with the 9Network.

"A remarkable crime series set in Australia's unforgiving and harsh landscape, Easy Tiger has secured an outstanding core cast in Luke Arnold, Bella Heathcote and Jay Ryan and we look forward to collaborating with them on Scrublands."

The Stan Original Series Scrublands is directed by Greg McLean, written by Felicity Packard, Kelsey Munro and Jock Serong, produced by Ian Collie, Rob Gibson, David Redman, Felicity Packard with Executive Producers Michael Healy and Andy Ryan from the 9Network and Cailah Scobie and Amanda Duthie for Stan.
