No seriously, saying “uhm, actually” to a teacher feels like a very Marius thing to do.
OMG it totally does.
"Uhm, actually, did you know...?"
It's 2 hours after the lecture, and the teacher is standing in front of an incredibly polite, well dressed student of about forty. 'Student' seems the wrong word because, in the last 120 minutes, Marius (the teacher had been counting and, oh yes, Marius de Romanus first properly introduced himself) has given him a monologue beyond the abilities of Hamlet, detailing each and every point on Roman history and culture he just incorrectly instructed his students on.
No amount of pointedly looking down at his watch seemed to be getting the message across that the teacher hadn't actually signed on to be the student of his own class tonight. Maybe, just maybe, he has somewhere else to be.
Meanwhile, Daniel and Armand are sitting not too far from here, well within earshot, alternately cackling at and mooning over their old, steady Roman.
"Thank you for your time. I hope to see some adjustments made in your syllabus when I attend again next week."

"Dubai is a child", Armand says.
Armand/Arun was born somewhen in the 15th century.
Dubai was founded in 19th century.
Armand is literally older than the whole city.
Tumblr media
He is the oldest creature/thing there (if Marius is not somewhere around). Only the sun and the sea are older than him.
It blows my mind.

The Parallels Between Armand and Daniel's Turnings
I’m rereading Blood and Gold and I was struck by how similar Armand and Daniel’s turnings are.
Armand and Daniel were both mortals in love with vampires. Armand (Amadeo at the time) knew Marius was something “other” pretty quickly, and eventually Marius even shows him that he’s a monster as a sort of test to see how he’ll react. Armand is no less smitten and still wants to be with Marius (and be like him - he even cutely asks if he just needs to drink the blood of evil doers to become like him.)
Daniel, of course, knew Armand was a vampire when they met, and he is also enamored with his monstrosity as well as his humanity. He wants to be a vampire when he finds Armand, but by the time he's turned, he also wants to live forever with him.
Both were given little drinks of vampire blood repeatedly as mortals before their turning, although for Daniel this went on for 8 years, and while it only lasted 2 or so years for Armand.
Both Armand and Daniel are dying when they’re turned (Armand from poison and Daniel from alcoholism). Marius had decided to turn Armand already, though he was waffling a little, and I'd argue Armand had made the same decision about Daniel.
Both Marius and Armand are brought to tears when faced with the reality of turning the one they love and both Armand and Daniel tell their would-be makers not to cry. From Blood and Gold: He smiled. And it was never innocent, no matter how beautiful, his smile, "Don't weep for me, Master," he answered. He struggled to rise a little from the pillow, his eyes very wide. "When the ikon fell, my fate was made, Master."
From Queen of the Damned: "Don't cry! It's not fair," Daniel said. "This is my rebirth. How can you cry? Don't you know what this means? Is it possible you never knew?" Both Armand and Daniel have to affirm that yes, they do want the blood, and to be with their soon-to-be-maker:
Blood and Gold: “Would you truly have the Blood, Amadeo?” I asked. “Say it to me, that you forsake the light of the sun forever, and forever you will thrive on the blood of the Evil Doer as I thrive.” “I vow it, I will it,” he answered. “You'll live forever, unchanging?” I asked, “feeding upon mortals who can be your brothers and sisters no more?” "Yes, forever unchanging," he answered, "among them, though they are my brothers and sisters no more.”
Queen of the Damned: "Say the word, my love," Armand said. "I'll do it. We'll be in hell together after all." "But don't you see," Daniel said, "all human decisions are made like this. Do you think the mother knows what will happen to the child in her womb? Dear God, we are lost, I tell you. What does it matter if you give it to me and it's wrong! There is no wrong! There is only desperation, and I would have it! I want to live forever with you."
Anyhow, I just think the parallels between Marius/Armand and Armand/Daniel are really neat and this is a really stark example.

The similarities between "Three Studies for Figures at the Base of a Crucifixion" and the murals at the Villa of the Mysteries are making me deeply unwell in ways that should be studied.
The Bacon triptych is from 1944, just before Armand and Louis met. It is reminiscent of the modern art Armand says he cannot love or understand which he compares to Louis in the book, distant from him before their breakup. It could possibly be taken as a symbol of Loumand's relationship.
The other paintings are mentioned in devil's minion and associated with Armand's relationship with Daniel of course, but they also put me in mind of Marius (classical Roman art, flagellation, the color red). In the book, the Villa murals are "looking on" as Armand and Daniel consummate their relationship--almost like Marius is haunting them.
Not sure what any of this means, but paintings are clearly significant in this show. Super excited to add more red string to my pepe silvia board!

Lmao people going off at me for saying I want Daniel to meet and beat Marius's ass next season.
I can and WILL imagine a canonical abuser/predator receiving a NORMAL 21st century reaction to such things and you can't fucking stop me. Did I say Daniel would actually succeed against a much more powerful and older vampire? No. Do I know enough of canon to know that Marius could wipe the floor with his ass and also that they do have a relationship of sorts later on in the books? Yes, I am actually fully aware of Daniel and Marius full time line of interaction in Vampire Chronicles lore.
Will I whinge and complain if we get it in the show? No.
Do I think he needs SOMEONE calling out his shit first before we can move on? ABSOLUTELY
I know Marius is a huge part of the story but guess what? Doesn't stop me from wishing what I wished. Armand is permanently scarred and changed from what Marius put him through and I guess I'll go fuck myself for having empathy and wishing repercussions on the character responsible 🤷‍♀️

His name is Armand. Don't call him Armand de Romanus, it makes me want to vomit.
I know it can throw people a little off balance that Armand does not have a surname but that is because he was a SLAVE. It might seem appropriate to name him after his sort-of-kind-of father figure, but christening him after the greatest source of his foundational problems leaves a really slimy after taste.
Armand Molloy sounds funny tbh but I'd take that any day over Armand de Romanus.

“What is it, exactly, that you want?” Marius asks.
Daniel watches his face carefully, afraid to speak too soon, or move too fast. Like being caught in a lie, like Marius can see all the way through him.
Arousal doesn’t feel the same as it had when he was alive, but danger does. Sometimes, the stillness in Marius’s face reminds him of how Armand’s simple presence could put a chill in the room.
It used to give him a hardon back then, sick from the blurry line between sex and terror. His adrenaline stopped being able to tell the difference after a while.
But now. The way the hair raises on his arms is pleasant. Erotic. Blood rushes to his skin in a warm tingle, all over his entire body, not just focused on his cock anymore.
He shifts in the corner of the couch, afraid to look away. Marius is sitting in the wingback chair near the fireplace, his legs crossed, unmoving as he waits for an answer.
Armand had always looked kind of strange, hadn’t he? Out of place, when he light caught him just right. Too pale. But it was easy to mistake him for human, wasn’t it? If you didn’t look too hard. If you let him hint otherwise.
Marius, though.
Like a cold spot in the room. His presence feels so large, like it can send ripples into the air around him, like it can squeeze around Daniel’s body. It’s always there, in some ways, even when he’s being kind. Warmth and gentleness never really hide it.
What does Daniel want, though? He shrinks beneath the challenge, unsure the answer.
Want you, is sort of the answer. But Marius is so still, unblinking, he isn’t sure he’s brave enough to say it.
He’s been afraid of Marius since they night they met, really.

so i been thinking of the vampire eyes and i noticed the pattern. Lestat's eyes were light colored - so is louis eyes and then when turn claudia it wasn't the same. Why?
Lestat turn louis while in love with him. claudia's eyes are different cause at the time she is a stranger to Lestat. Same with dress lady - louis says he did it out of obligation for claudia which is why different eye color. which makes me really want to know what Marius's eyes color is. is it the same or different to Armand?
yet when later on
SPOILER
so when armand turns Daniel his eyes are the same as his maker. and think we see this is why its the same is that lestat loves louis and louis love lestat always - so this could be the same for Armand and daniel rather or not daniel remembers the DM era

Thinking about Armand's relationship with food and sustenance.
Much of his trauma relates to hunger--watching monks slowly starve in the monastery knowing that would be his fate one day, then being starved by his captors as a human AND as a vampire. Finally he inflicts this suffering on weaker vampires.
The first thing Marius does is feed him. Marius later becomes a literal source of nourishment by feeding Armand his blood, which he compares to honey. Armand often describes the lavish, abundant food at the palazzo. It's easy to see how he would grow to associate food and love.
That's especially interesting in light of his treatment of Daniel. When they first meet, he pulls his go-to coven master move (lock up+starve). A major turning point in the relationship happens when Armand orders everything on the menu for Daniel at the Copley. An abundance of food reflects emotion. It's how Armand expresses care.
On the night of the first blood exchange, Armand declares his love by feeding and feeding from Daniel. (Feeding is also an act of ownership: "you are mine, beautiful boy.")
