Sometimes the iwtv fandom makes me worry about the future of diversity in media. I mean I expect the racist assholes to pop up and bother everyone. That happens all the time and while it sucks, there are ways to filter those people out.

My big worry is honestly on the other end, where people are so desperate for harmony they end up treating minorities like monoliths of purity. Seriously, we have a show with morally grey characters of a variety of colors, a color conscious writing team, actors who constantly discuss the nuances of their characters, and people still find a reason to fight about this. Wasn't this the ideal we were asking for???

How are we supposed to evolve the representation in media if we can't go 2 seconds without fighting about which characters you're "allowed" to like?

You can't like Lestat because then you're condoning his behavior, but you can't condem anything Louis does cause then you're racist, but also you can't like Louis more than Armand because Louis was a pimp, but also you can't like Armand because he killed Claudia, but also that was all Lestat's fault and Armand did nothing wrong and if you don't ship Loumand it's because you're racist and if you do ship Loumand it's because you just hate Lestat and Anne Rice and puppies??? or something, and Clauida is the only character you're actually allowed to like except you are not allowed to like her unless you hate Lestat or Louis because as we've established it's really Lestat's fault she died and also Louis was a bad father and is responsible for Clauida's death so you cant like him either but also you are racist for thinking Louis did something wrong because black characters are not allowed to make mistakes or be nuanced or be human but also you don't get nuance if you like 1x05, you have to hate 1x05 because that episode of the toxic abusive vampire show dared to show toxic abusive vampires and ruined your precious precious perception of Lestat but also if you still like Lestat after that then you must hate Louis because Louis is 5 fucking years old and needs to be coddled but also he's a piece of shit and you cant like him and idk i don't really hear people argue about Daniel but maybe I'm just not looking hard enough and who ever cares cause I lost the plot about 100 fucking words ago.

The thing that is so important about iwtv is that like. This is bad people the book series, and therefore it is bad people the television series. Does this make sense? None of them are good people they are all monsters. Louis is the worst of them all because he clings so hard onto his humanity that he can’t even recognize the monster within. Armand tortures everyone he spends an extended amount of time with because he knows nothing else. Lestat is so fearful of abandonment that his very being becomes an active grenade that pushes people away. Claudia is the worst parts of her parents put together and spat back out. Daniel is so fucked up that he is welcomed amongst vampires before he is ever even turned into one. They are all liars. They are all monsters. And they are all evil because they are all vampires. There is no moral high ground for you to sit upon while watching this show by saying that one is worse than the next. The entire point is that they all deserve this and they all deserve each other.

Louis trying to let Lestat go - I KNEW that would be a breakup scene, but I had guessed it would be another one that came later in the book^^, loved this change though. Unfortunately we already know it won’t quite work… Louis deciding to (try to) let Lestat go (which we know won’t work), and trying to take the “bull by its horns”… god. I mean. I get him. But that made my teeth hurt I clenched them so hard because that is literally… like, I said it above, but ARMAND calling HIM “maitre”? When the coven is already plotting? Oh boy. Not good in the long run. Not good.

So yeah. Loved it. So much in it!!!

Which makes me even more hopeful about the possibility of Devil's minion happening . But not fully . At least we'll get some hints of how Armand & Daniel's relationship started . ( Hopefully ) . Some Alice hints

2x6 Claudia demanding Louis to make her a companion because she feels Louis is gonna leave him & that she's in danger from Armand & the others . And then it leads to Making of the Vampire Madeline or so called the " woman vampire" by Louis & Claudia both . And Louis & Armand & Claudia & Madeline going to celebrate the new fledgling & new beginning . And Then Louis will finally be informed by Armand that it was him who used his powers on Louis to make him want to make Madeline & Louis . And Louis will try to leave Armand out of Anger & when he does & when he goes back to Claudia & Madeline the vampires of the theater arrest them & take them to the trial . This episode will end with Louis seeing the REAL LESTAT for the first time . And that would be the cliff hanger . + A new character will be introduced either from the Mayfair universe or one of the oldest vampires under cover . Or maybe just a new character .

2x7 it will be Santiago asking questions as the judge but being nasty about it . Some truth will definitely come out . Claudia's hatred towards Louis will become more vivid . She will blame Louis as much blaming Lestat . Only 1x7 will be revisited to reveal it was actually Claudia who killed Lestat . And the reason she chose Louis over Lestat as a companion . All her manipulation & her using Louis . Lestat's crimes are also gonna be called in as well . Like making a vampire so young . Like abusing Claudia & Louis & probably Louis & Claudia saying their maker ( Lestat ) never taught them any rules . But Claudia won't beg for mercy & that's her doom . She will probably say Lestat deserved it & she would do it again . ( Foreshadowing to what her ghost told Louis in Merrick ) Claudia will be called guilty & so will Louis & Madeline . Claudia & Madeline will be executed. And Louis will seek revenge & burn the theater down by the end of Ep 7 .

A : 2x8 you might say that while Louis knows everything about Claudia's death then why is he with Armand still ? I think the answer to this question is because Louis himself still doesn't know what Armand actually did to Claudia or what he could have done with Lestat back in Paris after her death . There are probably many things Louis is definitely going to see more clearly after episode 7 . The diaries will gather together Louis will know the real truth about Armand possibly Cutting Claudia's head & attaching it to another body & that how much she really resented Louis . 1x5 will most likely be revisited in the last episode as well because it wasn't mentioned in any reviews about Ep 1_6 . we'll get to see if Armand tampered with that memory or it was all really just from a different POV ? ( My anticipation is , it was hugely Armand's tampering with that memory ) . This will make Louis act out badly . BUT my dilemma is whether this will end to his suicide or him Going back to New Orleans to find Lestat again .

B : If the NOLA scenes & loustat hug scene are from 2000 then the suicide is more possible . BUT IF the NOLA reunion is in 2023 then I didn't think Louis would have a reason to commit suicide other than Claudia's resentment or Lestat's rejection to have him again . Also I noticed something that I think some other fans noticed as well . in the reunion scene there seems to be blood in Lestat's head it's like sticky blood on his hair when Louis hugs him Louis also has a cut on his finger which hasn't healed fast so that might have happend when Louis tries to hurt Lestat believing he's hallucinating him again but when Lestat bleeds & probably starts falling down being in a weak state & doesn't disappear after a long time Louis will realize that Lestat is actually real . But something important happens after this . Which will reveal the real Lestat as a big ending & possible opening for S3

. C : we'll also probably get hints of Armand & Daniel's relationship too in the last episode that hints at what actually happened between them . And what will happen to their relationship in 2023 & hopefully in S3 .

Season 1 episode 5 [A Vile Hunger For Your Hammering Heart] - part 1/2

- Previously... Trouble in the Unholy Family.

- Hey, did y'all notice that the intro card, the red sky with the skyline, actually changes? I was rewatching some parts of s2 and noticed that the skyline is different cities, but some buildings disappear from one episode to another.

- *wheezes* What the hell is this opening. Loumand indulging in some exhibitionism for Daniel while Daniel's going through Claudia's exploits. Hilarious. This show is a comedy, I swear. Holy shit, look at Armand's face, he's having the time of his life. And Louis doesn't give a shit, man wants his blood and that's it. Freaks. I love them.

[Daniel] "I'm trying to think of something more fucked up than this." - I don't know, what's going on in front of you maybe? *dies of laughter*

- [Rashid/Armand] "'And how is your work any different? Well, what do you think will happen to Mr du Lac when you publish this book, when the other vampires of the world get their hands on it?' [Daniel] 'As long as they pay full freight.' [Rashid/Armand] 'They will make their way to Dubai. They will scale the sides of this building, force their way inside, and paint the walls with his blood. You are chronicling a suicide. Do not look down on Claudia. Look in the mirror.'"

... Hey, Armand? Pot meets kettle. Don't pretend you care about Claudia. You could stop this any time you want. You're enjoying this, you're enjoying Louis' pain, you're thinking that the book will never see the light of day, that you're in control of the entire narrative, that you can stop this any time you want, that nothing will come out of this enterprise. You're thinking that if, if it comes to this, you'll get to play hero and "save" Louis' life again, and thus tie him even more to yourself. You're assisting that suicide, Armand. You just think that you're in control of the dosage. Look in the mirror.

- [Louis] "Honey and pineapple. He stuffs himself with both for days before he offers himself to me." - Lou baby I love you but you are insane. And also there are things you'd do better to keep in your head, actually. This whole roleplay thing is crazy. I'm imagining Daniel thinking back on these moments after he's turned and just going "what in the seven hells was that".

- [Rashid/Armand] "I care for him more than I care for himself." - oooh, did you guys notice that quick side glance Louis throws at Armand there? That line is Armand being genuine and Louis going "hey dear that's not in the script, what are you saying". Louis is done with both Armand and Daniel, he's being very bitchy and mean.

- What'd that bird do to you, Louis? Leave the poor birdy alone.

Aw, how the tableturns have turned, or however that expression goes. Now you're trying to get her to feed when you made Lestat's life hell refusing to eat yourself...

- Lestat reading and mocking Claudia's diary = Damon Salvatore reading and mocking Stefan and Elena's diaries (my first vampire show was Vampire Diaries, sorry, can't escape your past and all that).

- Oof, Claudia shattering the mirror and Louis being the cautious, angry one for once. Family's in trouble. And then the river of corpses... Oh, trouble, trouble all around.

- Ugh. Tom fucking Anderson is back. When does he die again because he's ugh.

- [Anderson] "Every single one of those corpses had some soft part of it lopped off. Finger here, a foot there... a toe." - yeah, I'm good with blood, but body parts? Claudia's trophies? That is actually stomach turning.

- [Lestat] "One each" - power couuuuuple. Look at them go! Unstoppable when they finally work together, and so in synch. That's what we like to see! Also let's just get rid of Anderson now, thanks.

- Oh, man, Claudia being drunk when the cops are searching the house, half comedy, half horror show. And then the real horror starts as she gathers her trophies. Ah, fuck, I had forgotten about the half dead guy in the closet. She craaaazy.

- [Lestat] "You wanted her, you fix her!" - when one of your parent tells the other "that's your child" when you do or behave in a way they hate. Classic parent stuff.

[Louis] "'We're doing this together.' [Lestat] 'Do you remember our life, how happy we were before her?' [Louis] 'Happy? We were not happy!' [Lestat] 'An anvil, tied around our ankles, pulling us towards the pitch-black ocean floor.'"

Ouch. You ever hear your parents fighting because of you, blaming you for their issues? Yeah... Can't say I blame Claudia for going off the rails.

- [Claudia] "Who am I supposed to love? You two have each other. Who's my Lestat? Who's my Louis? I'm not human. What human would want me? Perverts? Like the uncle at the rooming house who used to watch me pee? Or little boys? And 40 years from now... still little boys? How are you gonna fix it, huh? Which one of you gonna fuck me?!"

Hey, more of Claudia's fucked up backstory. 'You broke it, you fix it', except they can't even begin to understand what's broken, because she's right, they've got each other, even when they fight, that's Louis-and-Lestat, Lestat-and-Louis, they can't even understand why she's so mad and so sad and so angry. Kinda like when allosexual alloromantic people tell you, an aro ace person "but you don't love?" - bitch, I do love, I just don't wanna date anybody, thanks. L&L to Claudia: "but we're a family, we're rich and we're powerful, why are you not happy". Claudia: "bitch, maybe because I'm stuck as a kid for the rest of eternity while my mind and spirit age and I gotta see you two romance each other every fucking night while knowing that nobody will ever want to romance me?".

- [Claudia] "'I'm gonna go out there and find other vampires.' [Lestat] 'If you could find them, which you won't, they would shred you to strips, because you are build like a bird, because you are a mistake.'"

Bedside manners, Lestat. You know the worst thing, Lestat does warn here that she'd be in danger, but he does it in such a mocking, cruel manner that obviously she doesn't believe him and doesn't even take him seriously.

- Louis' dejected scoff when Lestat tells him he's killing Antoinette soon. These madmen are so bad at communicating.

- [Louis] "We made her out of remorse, out of selfishness." - ah, the self-awareness brought by a century of reflecting on your past. But what's that "we", Louis? You wanted her out of remorse, as your penance, your redemption for your sins and mistakes. Lestat made her out of love and pity for you.

- [Daniel] "'Poor dear. She wasn't held enough in between ritualistic murders.' [Louis] 'She spent every night for half a decade with no friends, locked in the emotional storm of puberty.' [Daniel] 'Look, Charlie Manson wrote a couple of beautiful songs. Still, he was Charlie Manson.' [Louis] 'Is that all you think of her?' [Daniel] 'Mostly. I also think she makes you and Frenchy look like a couple of whiny, existential queens. Probably why she's a fucking goldmine. The girl who moves a million books.' [Louis] 'I won't have her exploited.' [Daniel] 'Won't matter what your intentions are. It's the world out there now. She's the - the... single-shooter, Xbox, mouth-breather shit they crave.'"

Daniel's right. Look at us, we fucking love Claudia. She's a psycho, she's murderous, she's cold-blooded... She's our babygirl. She's our bicon. She's the moment. We love her because she's unhinged and feral and unapologetic about her pain and anger.

I love this writing, how it totally recontextualizes the whole story in the 21st century. Book!Claudia is disturbing, little blond angel with blood on her teeth, the eternal child with the wisdom and anger of a grown woman. Show!Claudia is pure attraction and mass adoration, the symbol of teenage angst with all of a lifetime of anger and rebellion. We relate to her, we the generations that have had to grow up so fast while simultaneously stunted, can't find jobs but expected to be way more qualified than our parents, can't buy a house but gotta be way more independent and resourceful and crafty than our elders. The whole world at our fingertips but completely unable to reach it, stuck in an eternal loop of doom and gloom as we watch the world burn without having the slightest power to stop it.

And of course Daddy Lou still wants to protect her from that, even in death, still sees her as his precious little daughter/sister who needs sheltering and safeguarding, even after she tells him she's not that kid anymore.

Well, that was heavy. Doom and gloom indeed. Don't think part 2 will get any better.

these are my thoughts on interview with the vampire episode 5 season 2

I've heard a few things about this episode, I've been really wanting to watch it just havent had had the time yet. I've also heard that they don't actually unpack any of it.which seems pretty on brand for them

(6:10) Sometimes, ii think i have bad handwriting, but then there’s daniel’s, which makes my feel a lot better about my own

This whole interview is just a who can be the sassiest and most insane old gay guy possible

(9:46) daniel is like that one fall out boy song, he spent an entire decade high and doesn't remember any of it (or that he is gay)

I've been painting my nails while watching and ended up skipping on of my nails

Armand is supposed to look 17, he looks 20 or so, i know his actor is somewhere in his 20’s and he did play him well, i don't think they could have done the show the same way if he was played by a younger actor.

I really like how both daniel’s had similar voices, specifically the gravely (i think that's the right word) parts

Conclusion of this episode: maybe all four of them could use some therapy or atleast to talk to each other and work out their problems (the last part doesn't really apply to lestat, he was not part of the sort of ok guys, not good guys, i don't think any of them really qualify as good guys except daniel, he was just caught up in everything)

This episode really put their relationship through it but i think it may have helped parts of it as well, maybe if armand and louis could actually talk they could have a better relationship that isn't just hanging off a cliff

writing down some questions to consider for whenever i actually get around to rewatching iwtv seasons 1 and 2. if anybody has thoughts on/answers for any of these, or can point me towards some like metas on the topics that they fuck with, i'd appreciate it—i do love media analysis, but i am, frankly, not great at it, especially when it comes to shit like unreliable narrators or memory fuckery

point 1: armand's character motivations. like honestly why the fuck did he do half that shit. assumptions i'm making when considering armand: the script is real, as presented to us by the show (the notes are written by armand, he did at minimum attend rehearsals regardless of whether he was actually in charge, he was trying to kill louis as well); armand is genuinely in love with louis, if in an incredibly unhealthy/dysfunctional way (or, at the very least, wants louis to stay with him); armand has specific, consistent character motivations for the things he does (jury's out on this one)

specifically, i'm thinking about:

a) why did he try to kill louis at the trial? was there a specific slight beforehand that i missed/don't remember? is he trying to reintegrate himself with the coven or is it purely personal?

b) on that matter: did santiago actually depose him or did armand remain in power of the coven the whole time? if the first, why did armand then work together with them for the trial (again, possible way to regain power/get back into their good graces)? if the latter, like. why. what was the point. getting louis to trust him more? manouvring louis/claudia/madeleine into a position where it would be easier to have them taken for the trial?

c) honestly yeah i'm just confused about the trial in general i think. i kind of understand why armand would want to kill claudia (if we're assuming it's like a being jealous of louis's attentions situation?), and i think madeleine was caught up by virtue of being claudia's companian, but like. genuinely it would have been so much easier to not do all that shit. like what was he trying to achieve with this

d) the whole rashid thing. why did he do all that. to be clear, these aren't necessarily questions that aren't answered by the show, these are mostly notes for me to consider during my next rewatch to consider specific aspects with the context of S2

e) IF HE TRIED TO KILL LOUIS, WHY DID HE THEN GET BACK TOGETHER WITH HIM !!!! MAKE UP YOUR MIND BITCH DO U WANT HIM OR NOT !!!!!!!

f) why did he first betray louis/claudia/madeleine only to then betray the coven in louis's favour. that seems like a really quick way to make sure everybody's pissed at you. is this like a bad trauma response thing does he need everybody to be mad at him all the time

g) the san francisco situation. hoo boy. i don't even have specific questions here i think i'm just gonna have to rewatch that entire scene with the context of the rest of S2. gonna try to formulate a specific reasoning for why he didn't kill daniel here

h) hold up i'm not done with the trial. why didn't he counteract lestat making the audience spare louis. is lestat stronger at influencing people? did armand not want to risk directly entering a power contest with lestat for whatever reason? or did he choose not to counter lestat (perhaps while he would have let louis get killed here bc he's already committed to it, now he can simply choose not to intervene and that will save louis? inaction being easier to justify than action)?

point 2: is armand actually a good liar? obviously, he's excellent when he's prepared, but can he lie on the spot? bc let me tell you, s2e8 was a pretty spectacular fumble. keeping this in mind, it might be easier to tell apart when he's actually telling the truth

point 3: the maitre shit. idk man i have many thoughts on this and most of them are horny but like in what ways do louis and armand hold power over each other ? (/in what ways does armand let himself be controlled by louis, despite being ostensibly in a position of power over him)

point 4: why did the dubai interview happen in the first place? was armand unable to prevent it? did he choose to let it happen? if so, why—surely, he must have realised that this is an excellent way to risk louis finding out the truth of it all. possible considerations here:

a) if he was unable to prevent it, why? in what ways is his ability to manipulate louis's memories limited? (for example, could he have entirely erased san francisco's interview/daniel? could he have made louis believe that daniel declined the interview?) are their staff more loyal to louis than they are to armand (or is the talamasca more inclined to support the interview happening)?

b) if he chose to let it happen, why? pride? curiosity? did he think he could keep it under control, that this might help him shape the narrative with louis more clearly? is it a daniel thing?

point 5: think more clearly about claudia's relationships; specifically, the difference in dynamic with her and louis vs her and lestat, and her romantic endeavours

a) subpoint to this: why the fuck does armand hold such a personal hatred for her. is this all a louis thing or did she piss him off at some point and i forgot

b) also how does her relationship with louis develop over the years, especially as a daughter/sister/friend/reluctant ally

point 6: back to the trial but now from lestat's point of view. again. like. why. why go through with all of this, reconnect with the coven and its leader you left behind, only to spare one of your victims at the last second? why go off-script and confess your own transgressions so boldly, only to let two of them still get murdered?

point 7: actually i don't even know what the coven got out of this. the trial scene was very well-written and -acted, i'm just confused why it happened, like, at all

point 8: bit confused by why louis isn't more upset at lestat in their present-day reunion

point 9: why the HELL did armand turn daniel !!!!! what !!!!!!!

point 10: pay closer attention to which parts of S1 were altered, especially the things that daniel calls closer attention to post-interview

I'm Louis & Gabrielle anon, thanks for response!

While there's popular headcanons about them getting along because of surface similarities and history with Lestat, I agree that they would probably hate each other.

I read theories on Gabrielle's reaction on Lestat's abuse of Louis and Claudia, and him following patterns of his father but i lowkey disagree. Gabrielle was detached from society shackles once she was turned and i think it involves morality too. Even alive she was very "it's only me and my loved ones (lestat)" person and even more after becoming vampire. So I can't imagine her particularly caring what Lestat did to those strangers.

She would focus only on Lestat's side of story and even then keep it to herself, not sharing any of her worries with Lestat. But it still wil affect how she treats Louis, especially considering murder attempt.

Louis I think is similar in that regard, though he preserves ties to humanity and wears a mask in the way Gabrielle doesn't. That and him never particularly showing empathy towards female struggles will result in Louis not caring about circumstances of Gabrielle's life as a human, including big chances that her kids, including Lestat are results of rape or at least marital rape.

There's also aspect of incest (though we don't know yet how explicit it will be) and grooming (for example Gabrielle telling her sexual fantasies while Lestat was teen). If Rolin is truly insane, he can parallel Louclaudia talking while Loustat had sex with some Gabistat scene.

And of course I'm interested to see, if they make Louis and Gabrielle ACKNOWLEDGE parallels in their defense mechanisms and do something about it? Okay, Gabrielle probably won't change but maybe Louis will? With time of course!

So yes, i agree with you. Aside from fascination at first glance that quickly will fade away, I can't see them having any positive relationship.

Yeah, I don't think Gabrielle will care all that much what went down in Lestat and Louis' marriage the first time around, particularly given how normal it was in her human life and her own experiences, and like, vice versa, Louis is sexist, as you observed, and has some lowkey misogynistic tendencies, so I don't think he'll be all that sympathetic to Gabrielle, especially if he's looking at her not as a woman in and of herself, but as Lestat's mother (and that's an extremely good point about Lestat and his siblings likely being the product of intermarital rape). I can see him pretty easily seeing only her failures to protect Lestat from his father (especially if he feels they to an extent parallel his own with Claudia), and then her own neglect and her own pretty fucked up boundaries with Lestat.

On top of that, I've said it on here before, but I think the show has a really strong throughline about the fact that victim survivors often treat each other worse than those without the shared experience - from Claudia not believing Lestat's story about Magnus, to Lestat weaponising Claudia's rape against her to force her home, to Armand diminishing Lestat's rape as something he quickly and easily got over, even as Daniel calls him out on it, to Louis throwing the fact that Armand was groomed back in his face during a fight. These are awful characters! I don't imagine Gabrielle and Louis' interactions will be all that much different, especially given their interactions will inevitably be underpinned by the fact that the only thing that connects the two of them is Lestat.

I dont know, having them get along feels a bit weak and disingenuous to me? Especially given how focused the writers are on keeping Louis as a lead, this really feels like such a logical area of deep and rich conflict that feels authentic for both characters, and could lead to some really meaty story for both Louis and Gabrielle (especially if they intend to keep Gabrielle around more than she is in the books). It's also territory that's both new for Louis, but taps into things he didn't reconcile with himself at the end of the s1 and s2 arcs. In that, he accepted himself as who he is, but he has a lot of unresolved issues still particularly around his mother and sister that I think is ripe fruit for picking story-wise. Plus it's pretty fun given Lestat got to know Florence - - I love the idea that their fathers will forever be these mysteries to one another, yet they'll both have to reconcile with the other's mother.
