Ark hcs I have about the survivors: Aberration (part 2)

Sequel to the last post on ab, this one is gonna talk about the grad students n’ stuff (and I am going to be self indulgent af and none of you can stop me)

-So fun fact the grad students have their own wiki page and it helps me think about what was going on in ab after everyone bounced (and when I mean everyone I mean everyone left, except their tames)

-Sadly I think Rockwell killed almost-everyone’s tames since he couldn’t get to the survivors, he could at least get the creatures they couldn’t bring with them...

-But not Xiao! Most of the light pets managed to avoid being spared bc they’re smol and it’s easier for them to hide, so yeah he mostly chilled in the ruins of the tek village for a long time until discovered by what’s left of the grad students

-Rockwell was the one who brought the grad students onto aberration, since he took over as overseer he could bring survivors onto the ark now, I think he mostly brought “students with bright minds” for his experiments

-Considering he was influencing some of the grad students, I think he was running experiments by poking through their heads and trying to get them to do what he wanted, basically his first test subjects in controlling other creatures 

-I like to think they all got along a little before Rockwell was messing with them, Trent and Rusty were the kind of people that did dumb dares and Emilia tagged along to feel included 

-Also they had a pet bulbdog with the group that was Emilia’s, they were together until the very end...

-Boris at first was leader of the group but Trent and Emilia voted Imamu bc he was too bossy and terrible at directions XD

-I actually think Boris is just a grump at first, he’s like “I just want to be a scientist I didn’t ask to be teleported into dinosaur land!” 

-Trent tried apologizing to Rusty multiple times after the incident of making of fun of his accent but at that point Rockwell was whispering words of doubt into his head he never accepted his friend’s apologies 

-Emilia and Rusty went on a date once (”It is not a date, stop it Trent” -Trent said it was bc he’s a troll) at fertile lake where they just talked and went fishing.

-Rusty I think helped Emilia feel confident, she was the anxious member of the group and he helped inspire her to feel brave, he was probably in her thoughts when she sacrificed herself so the others could escape 

-The fall Rusty had just broke his legs or something, he would’ve healed after a long rest, but Boris isn’t exactly a patient guy...

-Emilia and Rusty’s death hit Trent hard, he started taking their situation more seriously and stuck close to Imamu, worried about losing him too, 

-I think it was the combination of Element and Rockwell’s whispers that drove Boris off the deep end, he was still a bit of a grumpy jerk beforehand, but he wouldn’t have killed Rusty and drove Emilia to sacrifice herself if he hadn’t been corrupted at that point

-Trent and Imamu kept the journals of their fallen friends, Trent wanted to burn Boris’ journal after reading it, but Imamu talked him out of it as he thought that the voice that he and Rusty heard must’ve droven him insane, so Trent (reluctantly) put his arson plans on hold

-So when Trent and Imamu were in the ruins of the Tek village, they discovered a little shinehorn sitting by the ruins that was really friendly to them, Trent liked having the little guy around bc it reminded him of Emilia and her bulbdog.

-They found out the shinehorn was named Xiao bc they collected some of the explorer notes and dossiers, it’s also how they first discovered the name of Sir Edmund Rockwell

-Emilia was the one who started the trend of finding explorer notes, thinking they’d have a key to getting out of the Ark if they read the stories of past survivors, but she wasn’t there anymore to find the notes, so the two did their best to try and continue her work 

-Trent and Imamu, when they were the last of the group, became very close since they were in this situation together (Trent 100% called it a bromance, Imamu was very confused bc he did not know what Trent was referencing) 

-Before his defeat at the hands of Rockwell, Imamu first felt sorrow on ab when he discovered the dossier on reapers, and what to do if one... stabs you with their tail, he basically started tearing up and kept repeating “I could’ve saved him... I could’ve saved him” over and over because if he had known about the reapers... Trent would be alive

-Xiao gave Imamu some shinehorn hugs afterwords : (, why am I mean to these kids omg

-I’ve heard some people speculate that Imamu died shortly of his wounds after losing the fight from Rockwell, I think he did survive but his spirit didn’t :’( so he just spent his days by the tek village, with Xiao for company

-If Trent had survived his encounter with the reaper queen, I think he and Imamu would’ve been able to defeat Rockwell and escape aberration

Tails helping Shadow rebuild parts of the ARK to establish a earth protection unit against future invasions, only for tails to discover pictures in the deleted data, that wasn't yet written over. He brings it to sonic and rouge for guidance...what should he do?

Shadow's overseeing the project with GUN's support. He's strict and particular on what they can and can't do and seems to find great purpose in this. I can imagine it's a weird feeling seeing scientists back on the ARK, even if they're only rebuilding a small section of it for defense, and not actually to live or research within.

Maybe they should just wait to show him... He refuses to let anyone into the living area of the ARK and one specific bay.

I don’t fully know why but Maria Robotnik and generally everything that happened on the space colony ARK happened in a 60s esk time period (obviously the technology is different but that’s because it’s Sonic. Referring more to the aesthetics) like have you ever listened to 60s music and Shadow Maria angsted to it that shit will kill you

I hc that Maria, whenever she was stressed on the ark or had a very bad day with her illness,she would pet shadow quills to calm herself down and it soothing for them both

I love their relationship

Some of my silly Sonic worldbuilding headcanons yippee 👍

(For clarification I refer to the animal characters as mobians even though that's like technically not canon anymore I think lol)

•Common headcanon, but showing hands (and feet but esp hands) is a big deal to mobians. They only show their hands/feet to family, extremely close friends, and romantic relationships.

•^Showing hands in any kind of relationship other than biological family is a particularly important emotional base to get to and shows deep trust

•^It used to be abnormal to show any hand at all, but now it’s mostly just the palm area (basically fingerless gloves are fine, for feet sandals are probably okay now but they’d need to stay well on the heel if that makes sense)

•^This was weird in the 50s/60s so if Shadow sees someone with fingerless gloves he’s briefly scandalized like a victorian man seeing a miniskirt lmao (ik he was raised on the ARK anyways but I hc he would’ve read and been taught about it probably)

•^Also idk about this one but maybe mobians started covering their hands in an effort to be closer to normal humans, so that’s why showing their actual hands became a sign of closeness/trust?

•Mobians are basically humans that mutated a long time ago because of radiation/pollution/chemicals/fallout/etc or something (kinda sorta similar to how in Archie they came from like,, a gene bomb making animals evolve really fast and humans devolve?? But instead it’s that whatever it was caused some humans to mutate to be similar to animals from around where they live or smth???)

•^Idk whether or not I think mobians (and humans) are aware that that's where they came from, probably not though I feel like it got lost to time kinda?? Maybe the first mutations also caused memory loss so no one remembered

•^There are also middle grounds between humans and mobians, like that’s what the catgirl and people with pointy ears from the OVA were

•A lot of mobians just started using “the ______” as their surnames, similarly to how human surnames came from occupations

•^Once mobians were more integrated into human society the system for their names in like IDs and stuff didn’t change, so “the” became an actual common middle name and “(animal)” an actual last name. So basically Sonic’s middle name, as well as most characters, is genuinely The

•^Some mobians either always or gradually started to use more human-like surnames

•^These surnames were usually things from nature (ex. Rose, Acorn, etc.) because that's just important to a lot of mobians

the ark’s d&d nights

(hcs i wrote during a power outage because i had nothing else to do)

rowan - the DM!! he loves writing and planning elaborate campaigns, as well as being in control. because of this he struggles with railroading (for non-d&d players, that basically means forcing your players to make choices/follow paths they don’t want to) and often fights with lister, who makes it his mission to derail the story as much as possible. when he has to play as a character, he’ll be a bard or a wizard.

bliss - loves making chaotic hot people. loves flirting with chaotic hot people. you’d think it would be awkward, considering her ex is the DM- it isn’t. quick to jump to violence (or provoke others to it). basically tries to get in as many badass oneliners in every sentence as she can, and somehow it works. probably mains genasis or smth... either as a rogue or a magic user.

juliet - she’s introduced as a sweet, unassuming elven girl... everyone assumes she’s just playing herself. but as soon as she goes into combat, she RAGES and it turns out she was a barbarian all along- the most brutal warrior you could ever imagine. different voice and everything. turns out she’s using D&D as an outlet for her suppressed childhood rage. everyone is terrified, impressed, and lister begs to put her on a screamo album.

lister - he makes a joke character- definitely named something like jack inoff. definitely a gnome bard. does the funny voice, flirts with everyone, blah blah blah. ruins a bunch of serious moments because he’s scared of vulnerability. but when his backstory comes up, it ends up being the most tragic fucking thing possible and breaks the hearts of everyone at the table. by the end, he’s the most invested out of all of them… and definitely cries when his first character dies.

jimmy - a paladin. with a knife. he’s a little shy about roleplaying at first (beginnings of sessions are always a struggle) and sticks to peppering in funny comments every now and then. but once he gets into it, he gets INTO IT. he genuinely forgets he’s playing a character sometimes. and lister can’t take his eyes off of him.

angel - joins on call, used to just listen in until rowan suggests that she plays as jimmy’s patron. she’s the most chaotic out of all of them and rarely gives anyone what they request- but she’s so funny about it that no one can find it in themselves to be mad.

(oh and they definitely make an album abt this. ppl theorize endlessly like “what does it mean when they say ‘i just wanna quench the flames / but i’m already ablaze??’ a metaphor for mental health?? for self-destructive tendencies??”)

(and instead it’s abt lister’s dumb ass who keeps casting firebolt in enclosed spaces.)

What if Gerald just stole a baby from Mobius and added dooms DNA.

(I mean yeah, he did add it later but like... Shadow was literally grown in a tube, not just created there, he grew rabidly in that tube, thus being fully formed on release.)

Like he didn't just take a sample or make a Mobian based on the mural...he literally had a baby from a planet and infused it with Chaos power, given he already had artificial chaos. I'm so stupid, how didn't I think of that. That's literally what biolizard was--

That's my new HC--until I read the notebook of course. Maybe that's explained, but this is how I'm operating now. Just another secret from GUN... Would also explain how Eggman ended up there, just trying to protect his family, y'know?

Snake headcanons

(Because I can and I will)

Snakes have no taste buds. Though his tongue is also forked like that of his slithering companions, Snake does have a sense of taste, but it's not that strong, hence why he couldn't tell the difference between the two lemon-flavoured sweets. He also prefers strong-tasting foods and a lit of spices.

Though his sense of smell isn't as highly developed as that of his companions, Snake does smell in stereo too.

Though he might not look the part, Snake is actually pretty strong: some of the snakes he handles (I'm looking at you, Wilde) have an average species weight of anywhere from 10-15 kilograms (22-33 lbs) (note: this is however the estimated average for the females of the species, but still). He's also lean, and has quite a lot of stamina.

Snake doesn't mind if people talk to him or to the snakes directly; he'll gladly reply either way.

Snake's cowlick doesn't just move along with emotions (like trembling when he's nervous or spiking when he's shocked), it is also sensitive to environmental changes; Snake can sometimes tell from which direction wind is blowing just by feeling his cowlick move, much like an antenna.

Snake is mostly shy around strangers. True, he's also not that very talkative and won't take much initiative, but he likes being in the company of the people he trusts.

Snake collects shed skins from his snakes, especially the better preserved ones. Sometimes, he includes them in gifts to others.

Snake was ordered by Sebastian to train with the horses to help them get used to his friends. Horses tend to be afraid of snakes, but those of the estate have now become indifferent to them.

Snake, on principle, doesn't have a favourite snake or snake species; he loves them all equally.

Within the ranks of his extraordinary "family", Snake actually has a role akin to that of a big brother; Wordsworth is like the wise (grand)father, whom is even held in high regard by Snake himself.

The snakes like to sleep in bed with him, because he is "cozy and warm". Finny has expressed his willingness to let them sleep with him as well, but he tosses around a lot at night, making Snake scared that he might accidentally hurt one of the snakes.

Snake tends to be insecure and hasn't had any proper upbringing, making his job as a footman rather difficult for him, though he tries his best.

When Nina Hopkins came in for a fitting of his work clothes, he was reluctant to show his skin to her, but to his surprise, instead of grossing out, Nina immediately jumped into her fabrics to see if she had one that "wouldn't itch his sensitive skin".

In addition to having different voices for the snakes, Snake also has a different style of handwriting for each snake, though it does blur together a little when he tries to write fast.

Snake actually enjoys cooking as well; he likes the warmth of the stove and the bubbling sound liquids make when they're being cooked.

Though he hasn't worn it in a while, Snake still owns his regular circus outfit.

Snake venom does affect Snake, but never to the point of it causing serious injury or risk of death, even from the more lethal snakes.

All the snakes were named after famous authors and poets before Snake ever even learned how to read; the idea came from Wordsworth, who was owned by a herpetologist who liked to read to the reptilians before he came into Snake's possession.

Doll insisted on staying by his side at all times when he first caem to the circus. Much to the chagrin of the other members, out of fear for Doll being bitten by the Snakes, Doll and Snake shared a tent for a while, which is also how the snakes grew accustomed to being handled by Doll as well.

Doll also learned Snake how to dance.

Out of all the first string members, it took Snake the longest to get along with Peter, because of Peter's tendency to make sarcastic jokes, and Snake not understanding it's all in jest.
