Five times Maria didn’t text Shadow:

1. Maria swears she meant to text Shadow regarding her latest accident… but it couldn’t hurt if he didn’t know, would it? At least, thats what she thought until her grandfather mentioned it while on one of their daily calls. Cue Maria hanging up as fast as she could to avoid getting yelled at by her little big brother.

2. Maria upgraded her room— adding more fairy lights and getting Polaroids from her mom sent up. She was gonna tell him about it. She just forgot to.

3. There are a lot of messages she’s never sent along the lines of “Shadow, you are the one thing that keeps me going sometimes. You are the shadow I’ve always needed— the thing that keeps drawing me towards the light. You’ll never know how much I really, truly, love you. All of you. You are my earth, little big brother. I wouldn’t be here without you. Thank you for everything.” Sometimes she sends them. Other times she doesn’t because she figures, well, he already knows this doesn’t he?

4. The butterflies in the greenhouse emerged from their cocoons. Maria spent the next two weeks in the greenhouse reading and drawing the butterflies, taking detailed notes on each one. For two weeks, she forgot to message Shadow… or anyone for that matter.

5. Maria didn’t tell Shadow when they restocked on coffee beans. It was one time. But after seeing how horrified he was at her betrayal, she never did it again.

One time she did:

You know when his eyes get all round? Yeah, I love that too.

Okay, the farmhouse ark was awesome, and well done. It was beautiful.

But...

I think something hard to show was just how much pressure was put on Donnie at the time. First off, he blamed himself for Leo's comatose state, because he didn't want to leave the lair. No doubt he was beating himself up over that constantly (also his father "died" and he might have blamed that on himslef too). And he's also the default medic: everyone would have been looking to him for how to treat Leo, even if he had no idea how.

That's a lot to put on a guy who's just lost everything he ever knew, all his tools, two members of his family, his hometown, and probably has no internet connection to boot. Raph was keeping watch over Leo and wrapping his head around being temporarily in charge. Mikey was distracting himself with chores and activities, trying to keep everybody going.

Donnie was alone.

Trying to save a life.

With no recources to speak of and no one who could help.

After watching Sonic 3 I think Shadow and Maria deserves a duo name.

Most people call them ARK siblings!

First art of 2025! ARK Siblings are one of my favorite duos from this franchise, yet I have never properly drawn Maria and Shadow together?? If you don't count quick doodles. Tilli said I should draw them baking, so I did!
