Okay whilst I hope no one dies in s2 (an unlikely hope, I know), I sort of hope that should something happen to Jinx, it be by her own hand rather than someone else's.
And not because I don't want Caitly or whoever to be dragged down by hurting or potentially killing Jinx.
I think it'd make a lot more sense for Jinx's trauma to be the cause of her destruction now that Silco is gone.
It kind of gets pushed under the rug how much of an impact Silco had on Jinx. First and foremost, she "got rid of" Powder, making way for Jinx under Silco's guidance (yes I do view them and separate characters, kind of like the who Anakin/Darth Vader thing). In episode 9, when Vi is telling her to remember their dead friends/family, evidently upsetting Jinx, Silco is the one to pull her out of it (which yeah okay results in him dying but yk, close enough). He constantly tries to prove to her that she isn't broken etc. But now she doesn't have that to protect herself from her trauma, and it'd be interesting to see that become her downfall.
Again, I don't WANT to happen, I want everyone to be alive and happy, but this is arcane so it won't happen

here's a little game, who do you ship moss with whichever fandom? (arcane, valorant, overwatch, league of legends, resident evil 8, and the last of us ALSO IT CAN BE POLY)
︵‿︵‿୨♡୧‿︵‿︵
well, i myself definitely can see a very cute relationship between you and caitlyn. your creativity and lovely personality is what drew her in the first place. she loves how excited you get over small things and how you can always cheer her up with your puppy like personality. it's like a black cat/golden retriever girlfriend. you strike to me as a person who has a lot of patience, so you are able to but up with caitlyn, which unfortunately isn't so much of an easy task for some people. she is stubborn af, so it's a game change for her finding someone who actually finds that trait cute. cait would love spoiling you rotten from the most lavishing and luxurious outfits from piltover to little homemade cookies she made.
Tumblr media
first of all, OMG ESTELLA HI !!! MOSS HAVEN'T SEEN YOU IN SUCH A LONG TIME, THEY MISS YOU VERY MUCH, hope you are doing well <3 <3
second of all, CAITLY KIRAMMAN MWAH MWAH, moss loves her very dearly, and learning to main her in the game rn too haha haha you are so spot on it's embarrassing like... moss really does find their s/o being stubborn cute, like it's so funny and so cute as they fuss and kick like a baby awh
THANK YOU FOR THIS, moss is your biggest fan 💗😗🤭

arcane: a study in letting go
and how the mains failed to, leading to destruction.
there’s been a bit discussed on here about vi and jinx but i don’t think anyone’s talked about how the two sisters have both failed to let go properly in the buddhist sense until the very end- and in the incorrect way at that.
there are a lot of strings of attachment everywhere, it’s kinda glaring. i could run down every character and pick apart attachments left and right, there are cobwebs of it everywhere once you go looking. piltover is overrun with illusions of choice when they’re all actually puppeteer-ed by their own delusions and beliefs.
the two who are front and center is vi and jinx. they’re so obvious it’s painful.
vi is bound up with her guilt from her mistake from years ago, when she struck powder in anger and is unable to accept that the powder she knew no longer exists. there may be a fragment of her buried in jinx, but vi refuses to let go of the ghost of powder and confront the real danger her sister poses.
on some level vi knows that powder might be a little too far gone. she’s all too ready to believe that she was about to be confronted with caitlyn’s head on a platter. she believes, hopes, that all of jinx is silco’s fault, which is bound up in her guilt (which both alleviates (it’s silco’s doing that created jinx) and exacerbates by it (vi sent jinx to silco when vi hit powder)). because of this, vi is dogmatic in foiling silco’s plans. she’s a little too okay with collateral damage that ends up with a dead kid. she’s blinded by her guilt, jinx is a literal blind spot for her- vi doesn’t see her own sister coming for her.
and that blindness comes from her love and attachment to powder. she’ll confront every ill in the underground except jinx. kinda like silco.
jinx’s attachment to vi is even more blatant. her attachment jumps out of the screen to strangle you- she’s possessive (vi can not have any other affiliates (caitlyn, ekko)) and her trauma (accidentally killing her extended family when trying to help) does not help. her trauma pushes her to be even more fixated on vi than ever, and silco, who tries to move into the spot where vi once occupied (stalwart defender and confidante) so that he can utilize that big brain of hers, she’s not exactly stable. no one can have vi except jinx, and she’s idealized her past, elevating vi to some perfect enabler of hers. which, sadly, silco does to her detriment.
silco pretty much grooms jinx to be his perfect tool for revenge for the injustices perpetrated on the underground by piltover. frankly, he’s the worst at letting go of anything, his grudge against piltover, his grudge against vander, which were planted when he couldn’t let go of his grudge against piltover. the man is so bound up in his hate hard on for piltover that he drove everyone away.
vander looked around at the culmination of their war against piltover and couldn’t stomach the cost. silco was all about doubling down even harder, to the detriment of everyone. when silco said he wasn’t going to turn over jinx, part of me believed him, because i think he’s just spiteful enough to choose an unwinnable war with piltover over bartering for a brighter future that he claims to want.
for the rwby fans, this is adam. vindictive, hateful, grudge oriented. like, neither character is wrong to be mad, but they are wrong to sacrifice the dream (equality) for vengeance(spite). silco would rather it all burn over letting piltover have any kind of ‘victory’ over him (losing jinx). he was about to get his own fucking nation- everything he ever wanted, maybe even build something better than whatever piltover has in their bougie ass white marbled wonder (doubtful, but a possibility). he’s got options but he chooses his hate-on.
jinx chose the grooming, the strings that silco tied to her because why wouldn’t she? confronted with the reality of the sister who in the past both built her up and confronted her on her shortcomings, why would she not choose the sweet poison of silco’s enabling intoxication? jinx is confronted with choosing an enabler and someone who calls her on her shit (being a violent homicidal narcissist, unable to confront her trauma). of course she’d rather not take the bitterness of reality when the illusion is so much sweeter.
toxic, but sweet.
and living in the squalid conditions of the underground, why wouldn’t she?
in the end, vi is forced to let go of powder, or the illusion of powder that she had. confronted with the reality of jinx starting a war with piltover, and caitlyn’s devastation, she’s forced to confront the reality of jinx maybe not having all of her marbles.
jinx let’s go of the illusion of vi that she held onto. that big sister that would support her without ever saying no, with no boundaries. basically, big sister vilco. but she’s not getting that, ever, so she let’s it go by firing a big honking rocket at piltover to start a war that her enabler wanted.
#arcane#vi#jinx#caitly#silco#vander#everyone was unable to confront what is except at the end#jayce finally realizes that his dream of making the underground better with magic was a pipedream#he realizes that the reality of the underground was too complicated for a far removed council to fix from their ivory tower#mel has to deal with her family legacy of barbaric conquest and reconcile it with her more democratic merciful tendencies#viktor is confronted with how far he is willing to push hextech research and apparently the limit is anyone else's life#vander was unwilling to sacrifice people for an ideal#the strings of attachment in this show is so nice#i know everyone is tired of the trope that the hero needs to 'let go' to achieve the heroic ideal or some shit#well this is exhibit a of why sometimes you do need to 'let go'#it's less 'stop loving someone' and more 'stop imposing your expectations on reality'#often the jedi are brought up in this and how laughably stupid they were in the implementation#but consider their in universe reality and the phrase 'imposing their expectations on reality'#jedi literally can impose their will on reality#don't like where that box was? move it with your mind#don't like how that idiot is thinking? mind trick 'em#letting go does not mean stop loving it means to accept reality#serenity to accept what cannot be changed courage to change what can and the wisdom to know the difference#in the jedi community the emphasis on the first part is very important since they can y'know change an awful lot#and who draws the line for being a dictator?

Arcane details / Jayce + Caitlyn & Viktor / Talis security - A little danger is worth the risk, don't you think?
Tumblr media
I have read the first thing we hear from Jayce when he's on screen so many times, and still the logic of it eludes me. Danger is risk.
Let's see if danger and risk are really worth it?
So usually what characters say in their first dialogue within the story should have some bearing on the characters overall sensibilities. And this is how we're introduced to Caitlyn and Jayce.
Tumblr media
Caitlyn is inquisitive but sheltered. Relying on Jayce for experience outside of what she knows.
Jayce thinks danger is worth the risk.
And as Arcane goes, those are their character cores to a degree. Jayce is drawn to risk like moth to a flame, for good and bad. He also absolutely hates danger. And risk. To others that is.
Danger/risk vs security/safety is like the long running joke through this series with Jayce, both in his political plotline in act 2 and 3, and in his interactions with Viktor and Caitlyn. And he sets everything he gets involved in on fire.
Sometimes literally.
Like Piltover.
So the other setup revolving around danger with Jayce:
Tumblr media
But here it's some random enforcer poking a possibly dangerous crystal. That he stashed in his lab. And he gets angry at the enforcer that they can't read his mind and abide with safety protocol.
Put a pin in this thou - 'coz this is their unspoken in lab dynamic on Jayce's side in a nutshell.
Because as much as Jayce likes the idea of risk, he is not a natural risk taker. As case and point:
Tumblr media
Like he looks to Viktor for confirmation if his theory will be okay.
Jayce is not good under pressure btw. which should be obvious after watching season 1. Or in decision making. Or good at weighting on the risk taking.
But Caitlyn and Viktor, they sure are, they don't even blink when crossing the rules:
Tumblr media
And this creates a certain kind of tension in both of their relationships with Jayce.
Especially with Caitlyn.
A little danger is worth the risk, don't you think?
Tumblr media
Nope, it's not worth it. For Jayce that is. See, she has a cut on her forehead so she nearly died.
Caitlyn has moved on and is completely engrossed in her 'grand conspiracy'. You know, in her life. The scratch on her forehead is oh so, so worth it - since she has next part of the mystery puzzle for it.
He'd stuff her behind a desk, which is as if she was forever grounded - to keep her safe. It's just a step up from her parents getting her out of her job.
Also he already knows she'll be angry with him. And she is, then she throws him out.
Tumblr media
After that she uses being part of Talis security - which she isn't and without notifying him - gets Vi out of Stillwater prison. Which he covers up for her by lying to Marcus. Then she proceeds to endanger herself even more. How can you do that to him Cait?
I mean it's an irony that she is doing exactly what he said to her in the opening scene. Going to the undercity and being risky to get things, like Vi and grand conspiracy solved.
Why is their not-sibling relationship soo funny. Who else would she learn that behaviour from? Her parents? You taught her that Jayce.
And then there's Viktor, who is his equal - not his little sister. So his hands are completely tied.
A little danger is worth the risk, don't you think?
Tumblr media
LOL. nope. But what is he to say to another grown up man, 'be careful with that, please.'
btw. sometimes I see people write about Viktor as if he's either reliant on Jayce to do anything or the delicate flower that needs to be taken care of. He has a disability and what of it? he seems perfectly capable of being by himself (much more than Jayce at least). Like idk where that comes from. He is a danger to himself, yes, but that was always the case - from the episode we're introduced to him. He has little self-preservation. And a disability. But those two exist mostly independently of each other, little self-preservation is his character trait. That's how he "saved" Jayce's life, he 'stole illegal, dangerous research' from Heimerdinger's office.
Crossing established lines and risk taking to get shit done is Caitlyn's character trait. That's how she saves Vi.
Anyway, for Jayce - If only people around him stopped putting themselves into harms way, like his mom when she fainted in the snow. And everyone else. And Hexgates. And Piltover.
There is deliberate irony that he puts everyone around him in danger with his decisions. Especially Caitlyn and by extension Vi and Ekko when he closes the bridge trusting Marcus' advice, and Viktor a bit from the same event.
To keep Piltover safe from the undercity of course.
Spoiler - it did not make Piltover safe.
But it results in this scene:
Tumblr media
So this exchange has several layers:
1. Overall it is about choice to diffuse or not a situation
2. Imo. Viktor is so angry that he doesn't think through opening the grenade and the timer starts beeping. There's several wires and well 'better be right then' as he says, or they both die.
3. The bomb is diffusible. And it has the same construction as the finale rocket Jinx sends to the council. Narratively meaning that rocket bomb was also entirely diffusible. Maybe still is.
4. I personally think these two are only alive because this grenade wasn't armed. But I think they may not know it. See, this grenade was the one handed to Marcus, in scene in which Silco says to pull the pin - testing Macus' loyalty. But after Marcus leaves, we see Jinx is sitting in her usual spot up top - I don't think Silco would endanger his precious baby girl by goading Marcus if it was armed.
5. 'be careful with that, please.'
Anyway, imo. one time Jayce's security measures work:
Tumblr media
Yep, he gets one win on keeping people safe the whole season and he doesn't even know it. Well he and Viktor do, but imo. he was the one who added the shield - since the gauntlets are at his forge when he's adding shield to his hammer. Miner gloves save miner's daughter life.
_
Better luck Season 2 you walking disaster that sets everything on fire.

A lot of people find Caitly as a boring, too good to be real character. In my ff she got a dark backstory. If you like fantasy vibes this fick can be the one you have been looking for. Caitlyn centric with a few original characters. Yeah, there will be Caitvi shit too. But mostly angst and violence. Enjoy this badly written piece of shit
