Do you think Guts ever realizes Griffith was/is love with him? I always figured the “Why do I always realize things when they are done and gone” was him realizing Griffith’s feelings. After the eclipse I’m not so sure though.

Honestly I do wonder what more recent Berserk is doing with this.

I think Guts had to have realized that Griffith loved him, whether he connects it to romantic feelings or not, because that's basically the whole emotional thrust of everything from Guts coming back from vacation to the Eclipse. It's people trying to tell Guts that Griffith fucked it all up because of him, and Guts blocking out that knowledge until he finally can't, and admits it to himself both with the line you quoted, also while he's running after Griffith to the lake.

And we see him think about it again in chapter 130, while debating whether to rescue Casca or not:

He knows he had what he wanted from Griffith and threw it away by leaving. And what he wanted was love.

So I do think it's straightforward text that Guts realized Griffith loved him, even if the homoerotic part is still subtext. It's only headcanon whether Guts knows Griffith wanted to fuck I guess, but I think it's solid canon that Guts knows Griffith had intense loving feelings for him.

But then later on you get stuff like this:

Guts thinks "He hasn't changed" while thinking of the moment NGriff told him "Nothing has changed," at the Hill of Swords, while telling the warlocks in Elfhelm about NGriff's ambition. Plus, yk, the fact that we haven't really seen Guts' lingering feelings or fond memories of human Griff brought up in a while, only potentially implied in subtext.

So tbh I wonder if it's deliberate - if this is Guts buying NeoGriffith's own lie. He knew Griffith loved him, but he's so easily swayed when it comes to that lol, he's so inclined to believe he's unloved. The Promrose Hall speech convinced him Griffith didn't give a fuck even after Griffith nearly died saving him, and maybe Hill of Swords convinced him that he was wrong about human Griffith, and he was always cold and calculating, and never loved him.

Plus it's convenient to believe while he's jonesing for revenge - his memories of human Griffith ruined his urge to kill the first time he saw NeoGriffith, so it's kind of handy to have an excuse to dismiss those memories when he still wants to kill him.

Or I could be reading too much into Guts' current attitude lol, maybe it's just slightly unnuanced writing because their relationship is currently antagonistic and the focus isn't currently on their past feelings.

But like, it would make sense, right?

So yeah, that's my take. It's still Guts wavering back and forth about what he thinks Griffith's feelings are/were, the way he did in the Golden Age. Thanks for asking!

it's about...longevity? stability? it's about natsume believing he'll be somewhere long enough to plant flowers and see them bloom. it's about him taking touko seriously when she asks him to tell her what flowers he wants to plant. it's about making something with his own hands, building a future with the fujiwaras. it's about him repairing a rundown home for someone else, restoring it because it's beloved to them, because it's the home of someone they love. it's about him seeing touko's joy and thinking about the youkai saying we'd like to look upon her happy face forever. it's about the box garden making him think of the fujiwaras' garden and his parents' garden, about the flowers being both the memory of flowers that bloomed there before, and the flowers that he and the youkai planted earlier that day. it's about him waking up in both worlds with sensei. it's about touko finding the petal in his hair. it's about him feeling how he falls short and the youkai saying, but you have such gentle hands...

What are the black creatures devouring the island in chapter 368?

Isidro says it's the same stuff from the Tower of Conviction, so that would make it like, a mass of vengeful spirits who died violently. Skull Knight says they're the original masters of the island, which are the foundations of Elfhelm.

I'd suggest that equals mass murdered previous inhabitants of the island, perhaps. There are a few hints that Elfhelm had/has a dark side - the wickerman we saw, powered by sacrificed souls, eg. I no longer see that thread going anywhere interesting lol, but it does make it plausible that maybe they killed a bunch of people way back when, maybe for sacrifice magic or something, and now that's come back to haunt them thanks to Griffith's presence powering those souls up for some reason. Maybe we would've gotten more detail on that if Miura had been writing it at that point.
