{By Your Side Tonight}
Program: As the 501st's support agent, you've come to grow fond of your boys. Even if they're reckless and obvious. You only just marked it up to be a part of their charm, and two members of the boys in blue enjoy pulling at your heartstrings. Always trying to stay one move ahead of them in your game, a night out to 79s has you kneeling before one of them after what should have been a fatal blaster shot.
Pairing: Arc Trooper Fives x GN! Reader
Side Pairing Ref: Jesse x OC! Embrey, Rex x GN! Reader -> tiny hints
Genre: Fluff, Teasing, Flirty Humor
Length: 3930w
Warnings: Flirting, Petname (Cy'are, Little One, Mesh'la), Blaster wound, Some swears
Counselor Note: So excited to be apart of @cloneficgiftexchange!! The lovely @miaowshacat requested a funny/serious situation for their gift. Hopefully, you enjoy this! My sense of humor is definitely flirty irl, so I know that's not typically what humor is considered.
Request Prompt: "Please stop getting shot, it stresses me out". "Oh, well if you don't like it".
Camp Resolute's Masterlist
Skyscrapers shoot pillars of faint illumination through the night sky, and speeder taillights leave trails of neon in their wake. As war rumbles across the galaxy, the blaring bass and sonic speakers from the surrounding clubs cause Coruscant's lower levels to vibrate. Overly excited club goers stumble and giggle amongst themselves on the walkways as wary eyes peer out from alleys.
Even on nights out, a heavy unease seeps into your bones once you step onto the landing platform. Your eyes narrow as you try to take everything in, but not even the bright signs help you see past the heavy rainfall tonight.
“If you keep glowering like that, you’ll scare away anyone who might consider asking your sour ass for a dance,” Fives shoulders past you and throws a wink over his shoulder.
You roll your eyes and follow the rowdy boys in blue closer to the pulsing music, “I’d be more worried about anyone seeing past your ego, if I were you. You do know that sweet words and drinks will only compensate for so much. Right, Fives?”.
Jesse howls in laughter, and Echo claps your shoulder. “Got you there, vod. For the so-called ‘people’s man’, you’ve been striking out lately,” Echo laughs. Each clone walks beside you with buzzing excitement, fitted with their new planetside outfits. Similar to their blacks, they all wear a tight, compression top with short sleeves with matching cargo pants.
“Who’s side are you on, traitor,” Fives shouts back. With an unconcerned shrug, Fives’ face melts into a smile of soft admiration: “Maybe, I have my heart set on someone, and I don’t want to fuck it up”.
Your breath hitches. For the faintest moment, you catch Fives’ eyes flickering to you. The rain splutters as it lands in the forming puddles by the line to 79s. A few stray away to kiss his cheek bone and trail down his glowing expression. They hang, frozen, on his jawline before they race down the column of his neck and find a home in the dip of his collarbone. Quick as the moment, the storm thickens, and Fives refocuses on his brothers leaving you with a racing heart.
“The side of reason, di’kut,” you cough as you shuffle closer to the entrance when the line moves. Knots twist and sit heavy in your stomach as your gaze shifts from one group of friends in the line across the walkway to a group of illegal speeders in the next landing bay. Pushing a deep breath through your lungs, you roll your shoulders. Even shifting your weight from side to side, you still feel restless surrounded by some many unfamiliar people.
Fives takes you in with a gentle look and holds your face, “Hey, look at me. Look at me, okay?” His soft voice rings clear from the cybernetic cacophony that makes your ears prick. You meet his honey colored eyes and feel your gaze soften. He leans in close to your ear, “Everything is going to be okay, I promise you. 79s is the safest club down here, and you have a small army of clones that’ll have your back. I’ll be by your side the whole night if you’d like”.
Calloused fingertips carefully soothe your warm cheeks. Cool droplets of rain help tame the frenzied tingles burning your skin. Fives looks towards his brothers while carefully running his hands up and down your arms to help ease your nerves. While you think about his offer, you notice the coy looks and smiles directed at Fives over his shoulder. Pushing a heavy breath through your nose, you close your eyes and lean into his hold. Fives’s hand naturally falls to rest at your hip.
Swallowing the lump in your throat, it plummets into your stomach. Crushing the few butterflies who hoped to soar. “Well, I would hate to sour your night,” you shoot him a teasing smile and pat his chest moving up in line. Your lips purse as you hand over your ID to the bouncer, and the thumping stereo only further irritates you.
While you wait for the rest of the group to hand over their IDs, a warm hand rests between your shoulder blades. Although very similar to the ones that held you moments ago, you know it belongs to another. Slightly larger and holds you with a firm tenderness that you allow yourself to ease into. “Safe to assume this game’s continuing tonight then?,” Rex asks as he shuffles closer to you, allowing Hardcase and Dogma to pass over their credentials.
“Care to elaborate on what game you’re referring to, Captain?” you ask with a raised brow. Your blood sears through your veins as Rex meets your smoldering gaze with a knowing glint in his eye.
“There is not a single person who doesn’t see the two of you playing cat and mouse,” Rex lowly explains, “I’m getting quite bored watching you play around, little one”.
His hand trails up and across your shoulder line to rest on your upper arm, tucking you into his side. The only relief from the flush of warmth washing over you is the fact that you feel Rex’s heart hammering against his chest almost as fast as your own.
“And what would you have me do, hm? Or would you like some more attention instead? All you have to do is ask,” you ponder, “Besides, it’s all good fun. Did you ever think that I might like being the one who’s chased? This little game isn’t as straightforward as you may think”.
He shakes his head with a small laugh and guides you through the entryway into the club. “Then I’ll leave you to your fun tonight. You’ll have to teach me the rules to your heart next time, mesh’la,” Rex’s voice darkens as he parts away from you with a lingering touch. The fleeting feeling of his calloused fingertips trailing along your side makes you dizzy.
Bodies twist and bend around each other to the DJ’s beat. Flashing lights twirl and surround you in a warm glow as you step down into the ever fluctuating crowd. The boys in blue start to holler and skirt past you to get a jumpstart on their night. Kix pauses by you, “If you need anything, just grab one of us, alright? Have some fun tonight, too”. Before you can even spare a smile, he disappears into the mass of bodies.
You push and shove your way through the wave of patrons swarming the entrance to try to make it to the bar. Sweaty bodies graze up against you trying to get to their next destination while the deafening bass pounds your chest with every beat. Glimpses of the illuminated shelves of drinks and mixers being tossed in the air can be seen in the small openings between passing bodies as you squeeze through the last line of people.
Your chest constricts as more people seem to push you from behind and others shuffle you sideways. Reaching out with one arm, you huff before pushing back against the wave of people around you. With everyone moving in different directions at once, you’re jostled in the thick of it. When you break free of the rushing crowd’s pull, you tumble forward from its hold and it into the welcoming arms of another.
“Thought you said you didn’t want me by your side tonight,” Fives’ warm breath tickles the shell of your ear. He pulls back with his signature smirk and leads you with a hand resting on the small of your back to a pair of open bar stools.
You shoot him a playful glare as you settle onto your seat, “Don’t put words in my mouth, love”. You rest your head on your fist and kick him gently underneath the bar. Once the pet name slips past your lips and registers in his mind, Fives’ breath hitches. “Afterall, you were the one who called me sour when I’m only ever sweet to you boys,” you wink at him before signaling over the service droid.
“Now hold on a minute,” Fives leans in on his forearm with a smile pulling at his lips, “You’re sweet to us? Who else is graced by your kindness and charm? Thought I was the only man for you, cy’are”. Tearing his playful gaze away from you, Fives orders for the two of you. In a moment, two vibrant mocktails are set between your seats.
“Wouldn’t the people’s man like to know,” you drawl out and take a sip of your drink. A refreshing mixture of juices and ice blend together in your mouth. “Now, back to the boys-- how do you think the night will end for them?” you ask and do a sweep of the club with your eyes.
Most of the boys have managed to find partners to join them on the dance floor. Jesse is tucked away in a secluded corner with his partner, Embrey. The two men have only just started seeing each other, but you also catch Jesse smiling at his data pad more often now. Hardcase is tangled with the wolfpack in one of the booths as they continue their usual boisterous recollections of the latest events. Rex joins Wolffe and Cody at the unofficial CO booth on the raised level as they keep a careful eye on their legions.
“Jesse won’t be coming back to the barracks with us. That civvie’s got him wrapped around his little finger,” Fives pulls himself closer to your side and slides an arm to rest on the back of your stool.
You hum in agreement, “I somehow think that’s not hard to accomplish with you boys. You’re all practically a pack of tooka kittens — from pulling at each other's ears to pushing each other to try to get someone’s attention”. You smile at him over the rim of your drink, and the look of utter betrayal on Fives’ face sends you into a flurry of laughter.
“Oh, don’t leave yourself out of that either,” Fives wags a finger at you, “Nearly bit my head off when you found out I didn’t get medcare after Teth only to keep me close when we were all playing sabacc. You’re just as bad as us when it comes to attention, and I would reckon that you’re even worse”.
As Fives points out your shared similarities, you can’t help but lean into him more. Nearly tangled together, to the point where anyone could rightfully question if the pair of you are just friends, you rest a hand on his chest. You play with the collar of his shirt with your fingertips. The rise and fall of his breath upticks beneath your palm, and you find comfort in the steady thrum of his heartbeat.
“What’s the matter, love?” You tilt your head, “Cat got your tongue?”
As you pull your gaze away from where your fingers fiddle with Fives’ collar, your heart drops when you realize his attention lays elsewhere. “Now what could be more captivating than our conversation,” you weakly laugh. Twisting your head, you immediately notice the handsome Nautolan man eying Fives from his table. His eyes shift from your friend and widen when he meets your gaze. Even as your breath freezes, lungs constrict, want to push Fives’ arm away -- you instead send the man a soft smile and nod your head.
Turning away with slightly slumped shoulders, you put on a brave face and pat Fives’ arm. “I’ll make sure to tell Echo you won’t be returning to the barracks tonight as well,” you say as you rise from the stool. With a swift swoop of your arm, you grab your drink and quickly finish it off.
“Cy’are, come on. Sit back down. I said I’d stay by your side tonight, which means I’m not going anywhere you aren’t,” Fives pleads. One hand grasps your forearm and weakly attempts to guide you back to the stool.
Even with his warm expression inviting you to rejoin him, his hand feels cold against your skin.
Even with the teasing tip of his smirk pulling you back to his side, his silence rings clear.
Even though Fives is the person you dream of waking up next to in bed each morning, Fives’ eyes wander everywhere except for the one person who stands by his side.
“Go have fun, Fives. I’m going to search for some of mine own,” you reassure him and slide his hand away. You shoot him a wink as you walk past him and blend into the wave of patrons.
Once again flooded with the overwhelming proximity of strangers, frustration flames through your blood. The sticky atmosphere chokes you as your heart pounds against its cage. The corners of your vision blur and darken while you move solely focused on the entrance. Stinging static drowns out the annoyed protests and looped music tracks from your hearing. The moment you break free from the club’s hold, you stride into the crisp night air that envelops you in a thick downpour of rain.
Not sparing a glance behind you, you continue to move as far away from the clone club. Yet with every step, something nips at the back of your neck. Not even an hour ago, you wanted to leave and return for a night in the barracks. Now you follow the near-empty streets as they twist and wind and lead you further away from your friends and into an awaiting pit of darkness. Finally able to blink away the rain just long enough to catch sight of a nearby storefront awning, you dart for cover and shiver against the cool durasteel building.
Heavy breaths wrack your body as you watch the trickles of rain plummet from the awning.
Maybe it was time to put a stop to your little game and come clean?
The occasional speeder joins the rushing soundscape that drowns out your comlink’s alert.
You heart wrenches at the thought of cutting off both men.
Faint shapes of bodies not even glancing at your hiding place come in and out of focus from the downpour.
Then again, neither seemed too interested in making the next move.
Until one shadow stops.
You shake your head to clear your mind from memories of their shared looks, and you push away your thoughts.
Its shape growing and defining itself against the curtain of rain that had shielded you.
Steadying your breath, you carefully stand. “Not another step,” you demand. In the moment the shadow pauses, you slip off your comlink and send an alert to the shared channel of the 501st. Hopefully, the darkness is your ally this time.
“Wouldn’t you want some company?,” a husky voice calls out, “This isn’t the type of place to be wandering around by yourself — especially in this weather.”
They take a step closer.
A faint alert chirps from your comlink.
“My friends are on their way,” you coolly reply as thunderous footsteps and shouts roar against the brewing storm.
The shadow’s head tilts, but not in contemplation.
“That’s what we were hoping for,” the shadow snarls.
Shivers shudder down your spine in realization.
Just as you launch yourself from your spot, blaster bolts strike through the night sky like lightning. No longer concerned about the shadow who slipped into the darkness, you run towards the echoign command. Clenching your fists, you slam your feet against the rain soaked platform.
“Fives,” you shout.
Blaster bolts illuminate the walkway and reveal silhouettes struggling against one another.
“You picked the wrong person to go after, ge’hutuun,” one of your boys grunts.
Rain droplets pelt down on you and leave stinging splotches on your skin.
Bringing your comlink up to your mouth, you grit your teeth against the howling wind. “This is 501st support agent to base, do you copy? We need back up. This is an emergency, do you copy,” you try to speak clearly against the growing panic bubbling inside you.
A single scream silences the street’s symphony.
“Fives,” someone calls out.
“Fives?” you breathe out.
It feels like the rain weighs down on you and locks you in place. Each footstep harder to take than the last. As the 501st comes into view, tears blur your vision as you hastily look each man over.
Rex and Jesse stand just off to the side, speaking to a holograph of Commander Fox with apprehensive expressions. Hardcase, Dogma, and Tup surround the dazed assailants while pacing every few steps before returning.
Echo and Kix kneel on the ground beside a body just ahead of you.
“Fives?” you croak.
Echo raises his head and motions you over to join them. His serious gaze pulls you from your cemented spot and into a run.
Skidding to a stop, you sink to your knees next to Fives’ head. Your eyes flicker from his pained expression to his heaving chest to the blaster graze just above his hip. The outfit he was so excited to wear out for the first time now smolders around blistering skin.
“This wasn’t the show I was hoping to put on for you, cy’are,” Fives hoarsely laughs.
A watery chuckle breaks your chapped lips, “Well, you’re quite the showstopper. You can put on an actual show for me another time. But, please stop getting shot, it stresses me out”.
Fives lets out a booming laugh that’s quickly cut off by a groan, “Oh, well if you don’t like it, I’ll just have to ask the Sith to stop the war for me. Sure they’ll be real understanding -”. His sentence cuts off when he sucks in a sharp breath.
You look over to Kix who has a less than amused expression at the two of you. One hand barely applying pressure to Fives’ wound.
“Calm down, you’re not going to die,” Kix rolls his eyes and slightly shoves Fives’s side, “You have second degree burns, di’kut. Just need some bacta patches, and you’ll be fine with minor scarring”.
“That should have been a direct hit though,” you murmur, looking at the wound. You face Fives once again, yet this time he won’t meet your eyes. Resting your hand on his jaw, you make him meet your pointed gaze. A slow warmth grows underneath your touch.
“His clothing is made up of an experimental light-weight, ballistic material. It’s a prototype for casual bulletproof clothing,” Kix explains and pulls your attention back to him. He tugs at the singed edge of Fives’ shirt. The cloth barely moves from the strain. “Did -- did he not tell you why we came out tonight?” Kix asks you with an incredulous laugh.
“He actually went through with his dumb plan. Kriffsake, this should be good,” Echo snickers and shuffles away from you.
“It’s bulletproof?” you shriek at him.
Fives quickly throws his hands up and scoots away from you to push himself up into a crouching position. “Not completely! That’s why we had to test it out,” he defends.
His words still you. Narrowing your eyes, you watch as Fives pales under your sharp gaze. “Test it?” your voice comes out a low growl.
Fives sends a weak glare over your shoulder, “Who’s side are you on, traitor?”
Echo and Kix burst into laughter, barely spitting out coherent words. “The side of reason, di’kut,” they reply in unison.
“You were the one who volunteered to be the mark,” Kix notes.
“‘Just you watch, I’ll put an end to this little game of ours tonight,’” Echo say in a poor imitation of his twin, “‘By the end of the night, I will confess my undying love for my cy’are”.
“I did not say that,” Fives barks back.
“I am so grateful that shot didn’t kill you,” you confess while you drop your head in relief. You try to conceal the snickers that threaten to slip past your lips.
Out of the corner of your eye, you see Fives perk up. “Does that mean I can take you out on a date?” He asks.
“No,” you say. When his posture slumps once more, you slowly raise your head and meet his disappointed gaze. “No, I’d like to take you out myself,” your voice drips with false sweetness.
“Well, who am I to say no to a lovely date with my cy’are,” Fives leans closer to you with a small smile spreading across his face.
“I’m so grateful that bulletproof material kept you alive just long enough for me to take you out myself,” your voice growls in playful anger.
Fives’ eyes widen, and he pushes off the ground and sprints away from you. “Cy’are, I’m sorry,” he laughs and shouts over his shoulder.
“Too late. Get back here, di’kut,” you yell and launch after him.
Footsteps slosh and slap against the platform while both your laughter mixes with the comforting hum of the evening. As you near Fives, your gazes meet as he turns to check on you with an adoring expression. Reaching out with one hand, your face lights up when he turns completely to face you. Arms open waiting for you to join him by his side once more.
Throwing your arms around his neck, you press yourself close to him. His hands rest comfortably on your hips, and Fives ducks his head in the crook of your neck. The gentle scratches as you play with the edge of hair bring small hums from his mouth that softly tickle your skin.
“I’m still going to murder you,” you mumble into his shoulder.
Fives hums, and his hold tightens around you. “Just wait until after the date. I’m looking forward to it, and it would be my life’s regret if I never actually had the honor to spend the night by your side”.
The soft glow from flickering neon signs wraps around your bodies as the rainstorm eases to a gentle lull. Neither of you pay attention as the Coruscant Guard passes. Some send Fives a celebratory salute while others clap your shoulder with a chuckle. As the night life fades to distant hum, Fives straightens himself and pulls you under his arm to lead you back to the group. Soft smiles and shouts of relief greet the two of you, now that the game has come to an end.
At least for tonight.
One pair of eyes linger on you for a moment longer than they should have. “Rex, we’re good to head out now. Gave Fox the report and analysis already,” Jesse states.
Rex pulls his gaze from where you stand tucked comfortably in his vod’s hold, and he nods at Jesse. “Then I think it’s time we head back to the barracks and get some rest. I’m sure we’ll find ourselves absorbed in another game by the time we deploy again,” Rex shakes his head with a small laugh.
Jesse looks at him with an impressed, yet shocked, expression. “Don’t tell me you’ve been keeping out on us and have your eye on someone,” he says with a light elbow jab to Rex’s side.
With a knowing look in his eye, Rex motions for Jesse to make his way over to the awaiting transport. Once everyone from the 501st and guard are accounted for, Rex allows himself to relax against the wall. Letting his head fall to one side, he steals one more glance and smiles at the sight of you dozing off on his brother’s shoulder. Rex raises his gaze and meets Fives’ eyes, and they subtly nod at each other.
The night may be over, but the game is still in play.

Fives X F!Reader
word count: 4.7k
Fives had his eye on you for a long time but the problem is, you found him incredibly annoying and just a friend. He would hide your tools, constantly distract you from work just so he could speak to you and so when Fives finally asked you on a date... you laughed and said no. Now, he asks you everyday. It isn’t until a realisation hits you that you should maybe take up his offer.
warnings: mainly fluff, Fives being goofy and annoying, banter, mentions of alcohol, friends to lovers trope, minor injury, slight awkwardness, jealous reader and fives, man gives reader unwanted flirty and handsy attention. Reader wears a dress at 79s, little bit of angst, happy ending.
————————————
“Hello beautiful.”
Your eyes fluttered closed at the sound of Fives voice from above you. Currently, you were laying on a moveable board, underneath one of the aircrafts with a spanner in hand when Fives interrupted your work. Again. The eighth time this week.
“Hello Fives.” You replied, trying to match his sweetness but not pulling yourself out from under your work to greet the Arc Trooper as you seriously had to get the work done. You were already behind on it and that was all because of Fives.
“So, would you like to go on a date with me sometime? I’m thinking we get loads of drinks at 79’s, get out of our kriffing minds and get a cab back to my place.” He leaned cockily against the door of the ship, another worker, a mechanic like you, casting him a glare at his ignorant behaviour to the mechanics work.
“No.” You said with a laugh, sparks flying over you as you weld two pieces of metals together.
“N-no?” Fives stammered before gaining back his somewhat casual voice from the knock to the gut you gave him. “Why not?”
This time, you did slide out from under the ship, lifting your protective visor and stared up at him. “Fives,” you say sternly, “you are constantly interrupting my work. Maker, even last week you hid my tools just so I had to find you.” You rolled your eyes but couldn’t help that find Fives amusing.
Don’t get it wrong, you liked Fives but just as a friend. He was definitely cocksure of himself but you had no interest in dating. At all. You were too busy with your work and besides it wouldn’t look good for either of you if the Generals found out that clones were dating other workers.
“And yet you still came looking for me.” He grinned charismatically, still leaning against the ship you were working on. You looked at him in disbelief and then your eyes lingered on the arm that was pressed to the ship and you stifled a smile before replying.
“Yes…. For my tools. Not for you.”
You couldn’t help but grin as you heard the erupting laughter coming from behind Fives, you leaned up a little and titled your head to see troopers Hardcase, bending over in laughter, hands clutching onto his chest, whilst the sweetie that was Tup was covering his mouth and looking away but his shoulders were shaking violently as he laughed.
Fives scowled at them, blaming them initially for psyching him up and insisting that you would totally say yes… they knew you would say no.
“Well,” Fives clears his throat and stands back up straight, watching as you rise to your feet, brushing your hands against your Republic jumpsuit, “what would make you say yes?”
“Honestly?” You lifted your headgear completely off your face and tucked it under your arm, resting it against your hip. “Probably nothing. We’re friends Fives. That’s it.”
Fives eyes shimmered with mischief. He liked a challenge.
“Just so you know, I’m going to ask you every day or every time I see you for a date until you say yes.”
You were pulling off your gloves as he spoke, your head snapping up at him, an amused gleam plastered on your face. “Sounds a little obsessive.” You joked.
“Maybe.” He shrugged, rubbing his hands together as if he was conjuring up a great plan. “But I won’t stop until the woman of my dreams says yes.” He smiled boldly.
You looked at him incredulously, your lips parted as a grin tugged on your lips and you shook your head. “You’re definitely something.”
Compliment or not, Fives took it as a compliment and as you go to move past him you paused, eyeing up his arm and then patted his shoulder. “Oh and by the way,” you nodded your head to his arm, “best get rid of that paint before your spot-check.”
You winked at him as you nudged on by, Fives instantly looking down at his arm to see grey paint splattered all down his side and he grimaced in annoyance, casting an eye to the ship he leaned on to see the paint work was ruined.
“That’s what you get!”
Fives turned around swiftly to the other worker on the ship who was waving a brush around in his hands, dripping in paint, clearly annoyed that his hard work was ruined but Fives just mumbled an apology and stormed off.
“Well… that went well.” Tup mocked Fives once he was near enough, trying to suppress his laughter.
“Yeah well no help to you two!” Fives sneered, earning a harsh hit on the back by Hardcase who was wiping away his tears of laughter, inhaling a deep breath before speaking.
“Ease up brother. It could’ve gone much worse.” Fives stared over at Hardcase with a frown.
“She literally said no.”
Hardcase blinked at Fives, his lips in a tight line that started to tremble followed by his eyes going wide as he erupted into another fit of laughter. Fives groaned and stalked away from his vod and thought how he could score a date with you.
——————————
Fives was adamant in his pursue for you. The very next day, he came to ask you on another date which you of course turned down and then he asked again the next day… and the next… and the day after that and so forth.
He asked you bluntly each time, just doing a mock look of disappointment as you denied him but one day you couldn’t help but cackle at the attempt he made.
You were across the hangar from him, touching up on some repairs to one of the 501st AT-RT’s when you heard someone call out to you. You look around at the sea of clones and roll your eyes as you spot Fives quite a distance away from you, huddled in a small group of clones in what appears to be a debriefing and waving frantically at you.
Once he knew your eyes were trained on him, he made bold movements as he pointed to him and then to you before grabbing a clone he was next to by the shoulders roughly. The clone, who you knew to be as Dogma if you were correct, stumbled back and looked at Fives in confusion, annoyed that he was interrupting something. Fives shushed him and placed a hand on his waist, other clasping around his hand as he made a poor attempt of what would be him asking you if you wanted to go dancing with him.
Dogma was mortified, shoving the Arc Trooper off him before storming off, Jesse and Hardcase cracking up at the exchange that just happened but poor Rex look irritated that nobody was listening to him.
He laughed but as always, you shook your head and watched as Fives jokingly punched the air in a ‘dammit’ kind of fashion.
It became a routine at this point. He had probably asked you to go on a date with him at least thirty times now and he knew his luck wasn’t on his side. Instead, he carried on annoying you by asking you out on dates but in the most irritating ways instead even if he knew you’ll say no.
The 54th time he asked you, you were speaking to someone, a small group even over on a holo device giving the former mechanics information about operations that needed to go underway. Fives had sneaked into the room you were in, bucket on his head as he walked up behind you and cleared his throat.
Eyes wide, you turned swiftly to the clone and watched in pure mortification as he dropped onto one knee in front of you and now in front of these mechanics you had never met before.
“Y/N… please will you go on a date with me?”
“OH FIVES GET UP!” You seethed through gritted teeth, trying to stand in front of him so the now snickering mechanics couldn’t see what was going on.
Fives was trying so hard not to break into laughter under his helmet at your flustered expression, slowly standing to his feet. “A-are you turning me down?” He steps beside you, raising a very exasperated shaken arm towards the holographic images beside you both. “In front of all of them?”
“Fives… please.” You pinched the bridge of your nose in despair, your cheeks heating up to a humiliating shade of red. Fives chuckled lowly and left you to do what you had to do but you sure gave him an earful once the transmission was over.
————————
The 84th time, he took it upon himself to wipe black oil from the ships engines on the floor by one of your stations, painted as ‘will u date me? 5’. The idea had originally came from Hardcase but Fives was unsure and tried to think of another way to tease you with his ridiculous prompts but Hardcase insisted you would love it as you ‘loved’ oil.
You did not love it. In fact, you had not seen the mess and instead slipped on it, head clanging against the floor with a thud. Fives cursed at Hardcase who was already sprinting off running in the other direction. Fives apologised a thousand times and escorted you to the medbay that morning. You told Fives never to listen to Hardcase again.
In between his big displays, it would be as simple as passing you a piece of flimsi, sending you a message on your holopad, or just a simple ‘date?’ as you cross one another in the hallways as the days strolled by. Sometimes you wouldn’t see him as he’d be away on a mission but he would still track you down upon his return.
The 104th time came when you were all sat in the mess hall, a tray of food in front of you as you poked and picked at the less than desirable food. You got a heads up from Jesse, nodding towards an oncoming Fives who had a mischievous grin on that handsome face of his.
“Jesse what’s he doin’?” You quickly turn to Jesse who smirked before shrugging.
“Knowing Fives? Nothing good.” And Jesse was right.
Fives budged whoever it was next to you up a space, wedging himself in beside you, back to the table whilst propping himself up with his elbow.
“What do you want Fives?”
“You know what I want mesh’la. A nice candlelit dinner with excellent company.”
Mesh’la. The word floated around in your head more than it should have as he said it. After working alongside clones, you certainly pick up on their dialects often but to hear someone call you a word such as ‘mesh’la’ meaning beautiful, your heart couldn’t take it. You suppressed the odd feeling you were getting, a slight flutter in the pit of your stomach before turning to Fives and grinning.
“I’m sure Dogma would love to after you’ve been dancing together.” You smirk, the two of you comedically looking over towards the said clone who was sat at the edge of the table next to Tup, scowling once his name was mentioned.
Fives then looked back to you as you began to bring a spoonful of food to your mouth and he let out an exaggerated stretch, purposely knocking the spoon with his hand making it boop against your nose.
“Whoops, my bad.” Fives joked, watching as you scowled at him before taking another spoonful of your food and without hesitation, you flicked it at him, hitting him square in the forehead, the slop falling down his face and onto his lap.
You both stared at one another, both daring each other to make the next move. Fives had no food for himself, just yours and the clones’ that sat around him.
You could see his fingers twitch, edging himself closer and closer to Jesse’s food who became none the wiser as he began speaking to someone else. Quickly, as fast as blaster fire, he grabbed a handful of it, you grabbing your own food and smashed it against each other’s faces, both laughing as you both began a food fight.
Others joined in, the commanders and generals trying to stop what was happening. For a second, you lost sight of Fives, dodging and weaving through food that was flying through the air before you felt a hand grab yours. You turn, and sure enough it was Fives.
“Let’s go before they figure out you started it!”
“Me?!” You laughed, hitting his shoulder but still, you let him drag you out of the hall, pushing you both in to a small supply cupboard that was roomy enough for you both.
You both looked a mess, food of all different textures and colours was slapped over your faces, some of it even in your hair and as you both turn to eachother, you couldn’t help but laugh.
“I can’t believe we started that.” You grin, shaking your head as you rummage the shelves, looking for tissues or cloths of some sort to clean yourself up to the best you could.
Fives tapped your shoulder, causing you to glance over as he offered you a cloth which you gladly accepted. “Yeah, who knew you had that kind of fun in you.” He sniggered playfully. You poked out your tongue at him and began wiping down your face, scrubbing it gently.
Fives was cleaning himself and swiping the bits of food off his armour but he would find himself casting a gaze at you. Even covered in food you were so beautiful to him. His cheeks warmed at the sight of you and he became almost breathless as your eyes caught his. He looked away casually but you frowned. “Do I still have something on my face?”
“Uh…” Fives wanted to compliment you wholeheartedly, to express how much he thought you were divine but he didn’t, he swallowed it down. Despite the constant tries of him trying to score a date of you becoming a joke between you, him and his brothers, a part of him was still lowkey gutted you had not said yes at least once. You were friends, yes, he was grateful for that but a part of him longed for more.
“Fives you’re staring.”
He snapped out of his gaze and blinked quickly, running the back of his neck. “Oh sorry, uh, just some food on your lashes.”
Your mouth formed an ‘o’ shape and you swiped at your lashes, then looked back at him for confirmation that it was gone.
“Here,” he says as he steps closer to you, taking a hold of the cloth you were using, “let me get it.”
You hesitated briefly, wondering if this was just another attempt to attack you with food he may have stuffed away somewhere but you gave him the benefit of the doubt and allowed him. “Okay.”
You closed your eyes, letting him gently brush over your eyelids, wiping away any small bits of food that lingered but as he did, his breath got caught in his throat.
His eyes scanned your face, noticing every single freckle or scar, the slight dip of your cheek as you smiled lightly, the plumpness of your lips. Every detail of you was sending him crazy, the need to just touch you becoming unbearable that he had to pull his hand away.
“All done?” You asked before opening your eyes but this time it was your turn for your breathing to halt.
You didn’t realise how close Fives got to you, the way you could easily lean forward and have your chest brush against his own, the way his gaze lingered on you and the smallest smiles graced his face.
You knew Fives was attractive, all the clones were but being this close to him, almost admiring those honey coloured eyes nearly made your knees tremble. Your eyes traced to the tattoo on the side of his head, slowly looking down to his scruff of facial hair but then your eyes lingered on his lips. Firm yet soft looking lips.
Your lips parted, inhaling the tiniest of breaths before your eyes moved back up to his but his eyes shined with a gleam you hadn’t seen before. He saw you looking at his lips. He knows, and you know he knows.
Wanting to apologise, the thought then vanished as he did it too; brown eyes looked to your lips then back up to your eyes, a silent invitation.
Had he done it? Had he finally wound you down? You couldn’t think of a straight answer as your chest managed to brushed against his, both of you simultaneously moving closer.
His hand carefully placed to your waist, the touch sending shivers down your spin and you let out a small gasp.
“Is this okay?” He asked, lifting his hand away for a brief second, fearing he may have read the situation wrong but by the nod of your head, he places his hand back gently.
One of your hands raised to him, unsure where you should touch him but you settled on his chest, his eyes falling closed and he prayed silently that you couldn’t hear the thumping of his erratic heart.
Your heads leaned closer, foreheads touching. You had tilted yours, nose gently brushing against his. There was a soft inhale of breath from you, the scent of him lingering in your nose as you felt his breath. Warm and scented almost mint-like that brushes against your lips.
You became intoxicated, the wall you had build up for him had fallen down and all you wanted to do was to kiss him in that moment, just to see what he was all about.
Eyes fluttered closed, you allowed Fives to take the lead. He was screaming internally, not wanting to mess it up as his other hand brushed against your cheek, cupping it as he was about to finally crash his lips to yours.
As if by a cruel twist of fate, his lips barely grazed against yours when a shrill beeping interrupted you both. You pulled away, staring down at your commlink that was beeping.
“Kriff. I-I uh, got to go. I’m needed in the hangar.”
Fives felt his heart drop as you pulled away from him completely. He took a step back too, respecting your boundaries and tucked both hands behind his back, fingers flexing at the feeling of your body still against his grasp.
He was lost for words. So, instead he nodded and opened the door for you.
You walked towards the door but you stopped for a second and looked over your shoulder at him. “Fives I’m…” you trailed off. Were you sorry? Supposedly you were and you felt even more sorry as you analysed the look on his face. Both mixed with regret and something else.
Fives watched you go without another word.
He closed the door, taking a moment to collect himself. He brought both hands up to his face, pulling slightly on his skin as he let out a distressed groan. “Kriff’s sake.”
—————————
Fives had tried getting to speak with you alone but he could never find the right time. You were always in crowds of people, your head stuck under a ship or you were simply nowhere to be seen. He hated how both of your last conversations went, it had been eating him up for days now but he had not seen you. He thought about shooting you a message but he figured that it would’ve been better if the conversation was in person and so he waited until he could find the right moment.
———————————
You don’t know how you got dragged along to 79’s but you did. Some of your colleagues had persuaded you, noticing how tense you had been. So you decided to let your hair down and try to have some fun.
79’s wasn’t exactly your idea of fun really, one of the main reasons why you turned Fives date request down to be honest as 79’s wasn’t exactly the romantic date of your dreams. And it was filthy most of the time.
Alas however, you were there by the bar, dressed up and out of your scrubs for once. You definitely felt confident when you did this. Your hair was loose rather than pinned back, you were allowed to wear as much or as little makeup as you wanted, you could dance as wild you wanted to and you could also drink as much as you wanted to.
Fives was at 79’s too, sat in a booth with Jesse and some other of his vods when Jesse had nudged him and pointed in your direction. “There’s Y/N.”
Fives looked up immediately from his drink, eyes settled on you and as always, his heart melted at the sight of you. “Wow.” Fives breathed at the sight of you, something he usually did in his mind but his vod knew the attraction he had for you.
“Why don’t you go speak to her?” Jesse suggested, taking a swig of his drink.
Fives opened his mouth to say something but instead sighed and shook his head. What could he say? His feelings for you had grown more than such a measly crush. At first it wasn’t a joke, then it kind of was, and now it went right back to it not being a joke all because it seemed that you could actually like him. But by what happened, he wasn’t too sure.
Jesse frowned. “How come?”
Fives had not told anyone what had happened, deciding to keep that part private. “I don’t know, brother. Just think I should give her some space.”
Jesse’s frown narrowed even more and he looked to you, seeing you leaning against the bar, swirling a drink around in your hand, the other hand tapping along to the music. “Well, if you still want to try and get her I’d do it soon. There’s many eyes on her tonight.”
That was true. There was an abundance of lingering gazes cast your way but none you paid to mind. You scanned the bar, taking in all the patrons but then you had to go and spot Fives. Not only that, but he had a beautiful Twi’lek leaning over him, being over-friendly by touching his arm and trying to get him to dance with her.
You looked away instantly, a twisted feeling in your gut. You’re jealous, plain as day. You had fallen for Fives.
You had thought about what had happened between you both, the almost-kiss painfully stuck in your mind for a while that you almost imagined what it would’ve been like. Would he be gentle, would he be rough and eager or would it be quick? Still, that didn’t help the feelings. You swore to yourself not to get involved with clones when you worked for the Republic but regardless, you always found yourself looking out for Fives. Even though you kept saying no, you looked forward to hearing from him, to laughing at him and almost killing him when he would do something embarrassing to you.
“Hey sweetheart.” You snapped out of your thoughts, glancing to the side as a random civilian, not a clone took a seat next to you on an empty stool.
“Hi.” You humoured him, not particularly interested however as you turned back to your drink.
“What’s someone like you doing in a place like this? A clone bar?” He almost sniggered and you inwardly frown at the irony.
“I could ask you the same question.” You retorted, bringing your straw to your lips and consuming your alcoholic beverage.
The man was openly flirting with you; badly as well. You were being as nice as you could but also gave him the indication that you wasn’t interested in his clear motives.
“So,” out of nowhere he slung his arm around your shoulders, practically pulling you into him, “wanna get out of here?”
Your cheeks burned red in anger and you pushed the intoxicated mans arm off you and stood. “No. It’s best you leave me alone now please.”
The man chuckled and took a swig of his drink. “Oh come on doll.”
“The lady asked you to go.”
Both you and the patron turned to see Fives walking up to you both, jaw set straight and his eyes flashing in rage.
“Huh, what you going to do about it clone?” He pokes at the Arc Troopers chest, almost cracking his finger as it pressed against the chest plate.
Fives grabbed the man by the collar of his shirt, lifting him from the stool and pushed him in the direction of the entry doors. “Get. Out.”
The man stumbles back, knocking into a table where a group of Coruscant Guards were sat, their drinks knocking over.
Fives, like he did in the mess hall, took a hold of your hand and ushered you away from what would easily be a very messy scene as the patron started to mouth off at the Clones in red who were getting angrier by the second.
Out of the way, Fives stopped infront of you. “You alright? Did he hurt you?”
You let out a sigh of relief and shook your head in confirmation you wasn’t hurt which instantly made Fives relax. “Good… good.” He rubbed the back of his head, now realising this is the first time you both laid eyes since the incident.
You chewed on the inside of your lip struggling on something to say.
“Thank you by the way.”
“You look beautiful.”
You both spoke at the same time, your mouths both shutting instantly and you blushed a rosy red at his words, finding your feet suddenly more interesting. “Thank you.” You say almost as a whisper.
Fives accepted your gratification silently, his head tilting as he watched your cheeks heat up. You looked up at him and made a general nod in the direction of where Fives had came from.
“You should uh, go back to your date.”
Fives eyes squinted. “My what?”
“You’re with that Twi’lek girl.” You mumbled, trying to hide your disappointment but were failing miserably.
“Oh, no, no, no. I’m not on a date! She just sat next to me.” Fives corrected instantly, hoping you didn’t think that he had almost kissed you then wanted to crack on with someone else straight away. “She’s got Jesse’s attention now anyway.”
You looked at him with slight skepticism at first but his eyes showed nothing but sincerity in that moment and you said a small ‘oh’.
“That reminds me actually,” Fives laughed, eyes squinting as he did, “you wanna go on a date?”
“Yes.”
Fives laughing stopped. His eyes blown wide as he looked down at you, a gracious smile on your face.
“What-who-huh-why-what-really?!” He stammered pathetically, a rush of excitement shooting through him that you finally said yes.
You giggled at how bright his eyes went, matching his grin. “Yes really. I would love to go on a date with you.”
Fives could barley contain himself as he punched the air in triumph before lifting you up, hugging you tight. “You’ve made one Clone very happy, mesh’la.” He breathed as he lowered you to the floor but his hands remained on your back whilst yours looped around the back of his neck.
“So, what date did you have in mind?” You grin, feeling elated.
“Well, uh, I don’t know! Whatever you want to do, we will do it.” He offered and you stared at him in disbelief.
“You asked me to go on a date 105 times with you and you don’t know where you want to take me.” You couldn’t hell but laugh, learning your forehead against his.
“I wasn’t expecting you to say yes, honestly.” He sighed happily, gently placing a kiss to the top of your nose. “Wanna get out of here? Find a restaurant?”
“Sounds like a date.”
Fives couldn’t help himself and it’s not like you minded either, but he finally pressed his lips to yours. As you expected, firm and soft lips glided beautifully over your own. A contempt hum came from him as you kissed back, just as lovingly as he was kissing you before pulling away before it could get anymore heated.
“Let’s go.” Fives took your hand and into the night you both went.

Clones as expectant fathers
I am an actual nero-cancer researcher. I have a job and a degree. And my ADHD brain saw sad military men and went “I want that one”
Clones: Rex, Wolffe, Fox, Cody and Fives
CW: pregnancy, the clones all have a ‘secret’ SO, They are expecting a baby, A little angsty with Fox, there's slight mentions of smut with Fives (if you squint), swearing, this is just supposed to be a good time, its not reader insert
Minors do not interact!
Rex
Terrified. Also overjoyed. But mostly terrified.
He’s a soldier. Captain of the 501st, the most….adventurous of the GAR. His chances of dying on the battlefield and leaving his SO behind are higher than the average clone
And now he may leave behind his child? His kid may grow up without a father
He gets nervous. Anxious and antsy, and it's very VERY easy for Anakin to figure out Rex isn’t entire OK
Rex doesn’t even need to tell Anakin.
Skywalker takes one look at him and just KNOWS.
“Congrats, Rex.” “...on what, sir?” “If it's a boy, name him after me.” “WHAT!?”
Ahsoka needs to be told and she’s more excited than Rex when she finds out.
“Come on Rex! Name them after me! The republic needs an Ahsoka jr!” “And if the baby is a boy?” “Don’t name them after skyguy, please!”
Most of the 501st don't know. Too many people knowing raises the chance of less accepting individuals knowing. And if that happens, Rex, his SO and his baby may be in danger.
It’s forbidden for the clones to have SO’s, not to mention babies. It could end with Rex being decommissioned or reconditioned if it was found out he had both
Rex will visit and help as much as he can every chance he gets. He feels terrible for leaving his SO for long stretches of time during the pregnancy.
He WANTS to be there…he just can’t. Not while the war was going on
Despite his terror, Rex is…overjoyed
He didn’t think children were possible for him. He knew it could happen, but he didn’t think HE would ever know this happiness
The first time he feels his baby move in his SO, he’d get this sweetest smile on his face. He’ll kiss the baby bump and just murmur words of love in mando’a
He falls head-over-heels in love all over again
As the due date approaches, Anakin asks an important question
“Captain, I need to know when your baby might be born.” “...why, sir?” “Because I need to know when to take extended leave.”
Anakin tells Padme, and she is beyond sweet. Even visits Rex’s SO and the two have a wonderful friendship
All in all, Rex is both excited and anxious. But having so much support from Anakin, Ahsoka and Padme (and his other brothers who find out much later) helps him a lot
Wolffe
More relaxed. And by relaxed I mean he hides his anxiety better. And it doesn’t exactly hit him as hard
Partly because Plo Koon and the entire Wolfpack knows about his relationship already.
So you bet your ass the pack celebrates when Wolffe tells them he's going to be a father
Plo Koon especially is excited
“How wonderful, new life being born during times of war” “I’m not naming my child after you, general Plo.” “Nonsense! The child will be a girl.”
During battle, Wolffe finds himself being protected by his brothers and General a tad more
At first he writes it off as a coincidence, but then Boost lets slip during a battle “You gotta get back to your little one!”
He gives his men a bit of a lecture. He’s not incapable of fighting or defending himself. He thinks the message gets across but Plo chimes in with, “Ah yes, the stern words of a father already!”
Wolffe would probably see his SO more frequently than Rex. Just because Plo would more than likely spend more time on Coruscant.
He’s definitely protective. As in, waking up in the middle of the night to check all the windows, protective. Keeping an arm around his SO, protective. Every symptom or sign of discomfort he calls a medical droid, protective.
He’s not stupid, he is well aware that by having an SO and a child on the way he's in violation of several rules. All of which, when broken, would have him decommissioned
But dammit, he's not letting that happen. Wolffe will be there for his SO and his baby, no matter what
Since he’s able to spend more time with his SO, he’s there to feel the first movements of his baby.
It sort of causes him to short-circuit for a second. It hits him that yes, this is a life that he and his SO both created. Out of love.
Wolffe makes a swear that he’s going to protect his baby at all costs
Grandpa Plo does as well, but the Wolfpack doesn’t know that
Fox (kinda angst)
First of all congratulations to the SO for actually managing to be Fox’s SO
They got to be something special for the head of Palpatine’s personal guard to break rules and regulations and find himself an SO
Speaking of Palpatine, congratulations to Fox! Your SO is now in even more danger!
No, seriously. Palpatine knows before Fox. No one knows how, but he knows.
And he absolutely will use Fox’s SO as leverage to keep him under control
And Fox knows this, so he behaves. More so than usual.
He’s not blind. Hes fiercely loyal to the republic, but one step out of line and the (very few) things he cares about will be killed
Which…is why Fox may come across as cold or uninterested when his SO informs him of their pregnancy
A part of him is terrified, he just won’t show it
He’s not going to be more affectionate or anything. He actually acts pretty normal. Which is standoffish.
Despite his…demeanor, he actually manages to be present for the entirety of the pregnancy. It helps being a Coruscant guard, which means he’s more present than all the other clones.
He’s not moving mountains or anything, but he’ll get snacks in the middle of the night in case of cravings
No one else knows about Fox and his SO. not even his own men. He refuses to tell anyone.
Its for his SO’s protection
But Palpatine, the sick fuck, slips some words to get Fox’s nerves into overdrive
“This war is taking such a toll. So many dead children…so many grief stricken parents” “Sir?” “Oh nothing. Just stating the fact that the loss of an innocent life, such as…a baby, is always a tragedy. Wouldn’t you agree, commander?”
He found himself walking home a bit faster that day and hugs his SO a little tighter that night
Fox cares, in his own way. He’s just beyond stressed and anxious. But you wouldn’t know. He hides it behind a mask.
It's actually Padme that finds out. And she feels somewhat bad for Fox. She thinks his anxiety comes from the fact that clones aren't allowed SO’s or children
Which, it is, but theres the added threat of fucking Palpatine.
She ends up getting him to tell her the truth and she swears to secrecy. Even offers to hire his SO as some sort of assistant, if only so Fox can be closer to his SO
Hear me out, he actually breaks down when he feels the baby move. He can’t fully handle it anymore and shuts down.
This is a baby. His baby. They're alive and already so loved.
Something in him clicks and he accepts Padme’s help.
His terror gets easier, ever so slightly. But he keeps his collected and calm front.
Cody
“General Kenobi-” “Ah! Commander Cody! Congratulations!”
goddamnit.exe
Cody is a tad more relaxed than Rex, but more tense than Wolffe
He knows Kenobi isn’t going to punish him or force him back to Kamino for decommissioning, he’s still a little on guard.
But, since Kenobi knows, Anakin does. So does Ahsoka. Which means Rex knows.
goddamnit2.exe
More people in the 501st know than in the 212th which gives him the biggest headache
Waxer knows though. Cody had to tell someone that wasn’t a sarcastic general
He does a good job hiding his worry though
Cody is able to spend about the same amount of time as Rex with his SO
He doesn’t feel as bad as Rex when it comes to the lack of presence he has during the pregnancy
It's war. It sucks and he’d prefer to be there for his SO, but he’d also prefer SO and child have freedom from the separatists
I will say, he is pretty attentive when he isn’t off in space.
Foot rubs, shoulders massages, helping with cravings
One thing Cody does is that he’ll wrap his arms under his SO’s baby bump and lift it slightly, giving his SO’s back some relief
He really loves to do this because his SO just melts
Hear me out, Cody gets giggly when he feels the baby move/kick the first time
His palm is on the bump and he feels that first little flutter against his hand
404 Commander Cody has his amygdala broken from joy. Reboot?
He’ll actually tell Kenobi about it because he’s so happy.
“That's wonderful Cody, but I still question one thing.” “What is it, sir?” “How you managed to get laid to begin with.”
Goddamnit3.exe
Fives
“Hey everyone! I’m gonna be a dad!”
Ecstatic is not a strong enough word
Also not subtle at all
There is a solid 3 hours until everyone in the 501st knows
He’s told Echo before the first hour. Rex knew within 2 hours.
Fives is BEYOND over the moon
He gets this small smile on his face that just doesn’t go away
Whenever he’s not with his SO, he definitely calls them every day. He wants updates on the little one
Also, seeing his SO with a baby bump? Unlocks something inside his brain.
Fives is incredibly horny when he’s with his SO. He’ll be rubbing their middle and getting a puppy dog look in his eye.
Only if his SO is in the mood of course! He’d never try and be forceful
He’s probably the clone that takes the distance the hardest. He debates taking a ship and making a run for Coruscant on more than one occasion.
In the end he settles to ask Anakin for extended leave.
Anakin is also extremely happy for Fives. Like with Rex, he makes a “name the baby after me” joke
Fives brings that up to his SO and nearly gets smacked. He also makes a “Fives jr.” joke and actually does get smacked.
When Fives feels the baby kick, he gets high on happiness. Actual mumbling incoherent words of love and affection in Mando’a
Lots and lots of “Ni kar'tayl gar darasuum”
He also gets very VERY affectionate with his SO
Kisses his SO’s face a lot. Even as a greeting, he’ll just start peppering their cheeks with pecks
Also probably the only one ballsy enough to ASK his general for extended leave
“Excuse me, general Skywalker? I’ll need to take leave at this date.” “Oh, yea sure. You know what? That seems like a good time for all the men to take a break. Thanks, Fives.”
He’s also probably the only one ballsy enough to actually take his new born baby onto a fucking battleship to introduce everyone.
“This is your uncle Rex. This is your uncle Echo and your uncle Tup. That's your auntie Ahsoka!” “Fives what the FUCK are you doing?!” “Introducing the family, captain.”

Hugging the clones for comfort headcanons: The 501st
(With a hint of gray and orange ;) )
Captain Rex
The first time you hug him, he doesn't know what's happening, so it's like hugging a plank 💀
However once you explain to him what you're doing he relaxes into it and starts hugging you back, albeitly hesitantly.
It'll take a couple tries for him to get comfortable with it, but he's holding you gently and providing you with the comfort you need before you know it!
Once he's used to it, whenever you come and hug him without a word he'll stop everything he's doing to hold you until you feel better.
He's a big fan of forehead kisses, it makes him feel tall :')
Fives
This man is a cuddle bug, once you're hugged him you're done for.
Fives is down for hugs anytime, anywhere. He's not really afraid of PDA, whether it's romantic or platonic. He wants to be able to help in whichever way he can, so bad jokes usually come with the hug.
He's so touch-deprived please hold him it makes him so happy
Once he's comfortable enough he'll start initiating the hugs, he likes to sneak up on you from behind and surprise you with a sneak hug >:D
He's quite a cuddle bug during movies on a couch beneath a blanket with a bowl of popcorn, movie nights are definitely the best with this guy!
Echo
Echo can be a bit shy, so the first time you hug him his face is definitely lighting up like fireworks!
After you pull back he'll just stare in disbelief and ask you, what was that? Once you explain it to him however he calms down and understands a lot better.
Echo is the kind of guy who will guide you through things if you're in need of comfort. He'll pat your back and talk to you gently, asking you if you're all right. He's the best person to go to if you need to calm down.
Even if he gets used to it Echo blushes a bit everytime you hug him, not being used to this kind of touch. It's actually pretty cute :')
With time he'll relax into the hug and hold you gently in his arms, against his chest so you can feel safe and comforted. He'll lean his chin on top of your head sometimes, wrapping you in his body.
Jesse
Jesse is one of the guys who's coolest with the whole 'hug out of nowhere' thing, freezing at first before he just quirks a brow and chuckles at you.
He'll joke at first to wave off his surprise, but then get more serious and hold you gently as he asks you if you're all right.
Jesse is a pretty good listener, so he can offer an ear for you or just stand there and hug in silence if that's what you need. He's also always got a joke up his sleeve should you need it.
You can honestly walk up to Jesse anytime for a hug, he'll always be happy to hug it out, even in front of his brothers. Although he may brag about it to them
He's a big fan of holding you in his lap as he hugs you against his chest.
Hardcase
We all know Hardcase can never sit still, but when you hug him? Not one movement from him. It's like a puppy standing at attention after seeing a squirrel.
He'll fumble with his words a bit as he tries to comprehend what's happening, but if you're able to soothe him or ask him to just hold you for a minute he'll go quiet and hug you as long as he needs.
If you hug him too long he'll start fidgetting because of his hyperactivity, which is always a good way to get a laugh out of you. If you call him out about it he'll become flustered and frustrated that he can't keep still.
Hardcase's hugs are warm and tight. He's surprisingly okay with touch, and his hugs are some of the most satisfying you can get.
The best way to get him to stop fidgetting around is to surprise him with a kiss on the cheek ;)
Kix
As a medic, Kix has the care and well-being of others at heart. So if you come to him for a hug seeking comfort, even if he's not familiar with these... methods, he'll be happy to oblige.
Kix is someone you can come back to for hugs whenever you need them. He'll hold you silently as you calm down before asking you what happened.
His patience shows in his hug, as he'll hold you gently and won't pull you back until you do or ask him to. There's no rush in his movements, and he commits his full attention to you as long as you need.
At the end of the hug, Kix will give you things like meds or sweets, whatever you need to be feel better.
After some time your hugs grow off him and he starts asking you for them as well! It helps with the stress from his job as a medic. He loves it when you hide your face in his shoulder and he can tuck a hand behind your head and stroke your hair.
Tup
Along with Rex, Tup is definitely one of the more awkward clones from the 501st with hugs. He'll just freeze and stand there as you hug him, heart pounding in his chest.
He'll definitely need explanations to understand what happened, but once he does he's surprisingly kind and understanding about it. Although he's a bit awkward with the gesture, he'll never deny you and will pat your back until you calm down.
Tup is the kind of guy who'll stick around with you after the hug to make sure you're all right. He's quite caring in that quiet way of his, his eyes holding worry even when you reassure him you're fine.
Tup is more than happy to go to a coffee shop or park with you afterwards! Although he may not say it out loud he enjoys spending time with you outside a military context and in these moments he'll open up to you a bit more.
He secretly loves it when you lean his head on his shoulder :')
Commander Cody
Being a commander, Cody has experience with people dealing with stress and even breakdowns, so he's not exactly a stranger to comforting people.
Even if he is initially taken off-guard by your hug, he'll ease into it a lot faster than you might expect and return the hug. "All right, all right. Easy there..."
He's calm and patient the entire time, easing you with soft words of encouragement and holding you gently. He won't rush you, pulling back only once you've calmed down.
He'll sit down with you and talk once you're feeling better if you'd like. He's one of the most sympathetic and understanding clones in the lot when it comes to this things, and there's no truly no shame to be felt about your moment of vulnerability around Cody.
If hugging becomes a regular thing, you'll quickly notice he has a knack for securing his arms around your waists and hips ;)
Commander Wolffe
Wolffe may seem difficult to approach and like the last person who would return a hug, but... Well. You're in for one hell of a surprise.
He'll grumble about it at first, but it doesn't take long before he wraps an arms around you and holds you against his side, glaring at your surroundings protectively (which effectively scares most living beings in the proximity away).
Although he may come off as grumpy about it, Wolffe does ask if you're doing okay and will demand you come back to him if something ever happens. He's pretty protective like that!
It doesn't take you long to realize that the grumbling is actually all a cover-up to hide the fact that Wolffe is a huge cuddle bug.
When it's just the two of you off-duty he can't keep his hands off you and wraps around you like a cocoon. If you poke at him too much about it he'll just grumble and hide his face in your hair :')
Hope you guys enjoyed! Let me know which headcanon was your favourite 💖

𝓓𝓮𝓪𝓻 𝓓𝓲𝓪𝓻𝔂..
Pt2. Captain Rex x F!Reader x Fives What happens when two of the men you admire suddenly begin to show just how interested they are in you, days after your secret diary goes missing? Word Count: 3514 Warnings: Edited but most likely has some grammar mistakes, reader is scared of water. A/N: Ugh this took my poor little brain too long to write but it's here now and I'm very proud <33
The rhythmic buzzing of cicadas paired with the summer heat and sunbathing on the beach was the perfect situation to find yourself in. The negotiations had gone smoothly, and your squad was permitted a spontaneous shore leave.
Navy blue waves licked lazily at the sand; the water contrastingly cold to the desert-like temperatures of the beach. A cool breeze accompanied the waves, providing a semblance of comfort as it danced with tall, sparse strands of wild grass.
You were seated on a sunbed, just beneath the dark shadow of an umbrella, enjoying the distant echoes of laughter from your squad. It was extremely uncommon for them to enjoy anything but the popular bar, 79s, on their days off.
You had to bargain with the Jedi council for a solid half an hour before Master Windu had finally given you the nod of approval.
Now, Rex reaped the benefits of shore leave in the form of a nap in the sun. You had made sure to apply a kriff ton of sun cream onto his back and shoulders and neck before he had fallen asleep, a mumbled 'thank you' rolling off the tip of his tongue as his eyes became droopy.
He was severely sleep deprived; always being assigned to Skywalker's side rather than yours. It wasn't that he didn't like Master Skywalker, it's just his missions and plans were always reckless and exhausting, and they ended with a few too many casualties.
Of course, that was always inevitable, and Rex did his best not to linger on the fallen, but it didn't always come to him easily.
But with you, he could rest assured.
With you, he could relax under the warm sun, feel the burning sand, and enjoy the comfort of seaside waves.
His caring nature also ensured that everyone would be provided for whilst he was asleep. Bringing extra sun-cream, a cooler filled to the brim with water bottles and ice lollies, and extra towels as well as beach balls.
Where did he get the credits from?
Well, that was a code that nobody could decipher.
Nevertheless, there you were, relaxing with your beloved Captain. Fives had dragged most of the squad into the waves, insisting that they play volleyball. He had tried to take you too, but your reluctance and uncertainty deterred him.
He had waved you off with a 'Watch me, General' and a wink before he engaged in a series of games of clumsy water volleyball.
Since they'd undergone ARC Trooper training, it became more uncommon for Echo and Fives to join the 501st on longer campaigns.
Each time they were reunited, Fives would glance to Echo with a small smile. And now, he was busy wrestling with Hardcase in the shallow parts of the water, laughter escaping the two as Echo hit the ball into the air.
A series of hoorays and pats on the back erupted as the ball hit the water with a splash.
One score for Echo's team.
You were content with watching from the side lines, if you remained far from the water.
If you still had your diary on you, you'd probably busy yourself writing down the details of this day, so the memory could continue to live on long after the war was over.
But just a few days prior it went missing. You thought you misplaced it and ransacked your entire quarters for it. By the time Rex had knocked on your door, nothing was in its' correct spot. Crumpled bedsheets, swinging closet doors and a chair in the middle of the room as you had searched under your desk.
He wanted to question your panicked state, but as soon as the words 'Mission' and 'Jedi Council' were said, you had put a halt to your search mission.
Rex hadn't tried to ask since.
But now, forced to sit by idly, you were mesmerised by the beauty of none other than Fives himself. He was an ARC Trooper for a reason. His shoulders were broad, his waist slim and his thighs - thick and strong and defined from hours of battle and constant training. His tan skin was wet with salty sweat and even saltier water, and if one were to squint hard enough, they could see droplets running down the side of his neck.
You often found yourself feeling grateful to Jango Fett for having such fine genes.
As if reading your mind, Fives decided to stretch, and in the process flexed his biceps. How big were they?
Was it just you or did it get twenty degrees hotter?
His head slowly turned, and for a moment, you made eye contact. It was quick, but it was still enough to have your heart racing. A smirk stretched across his lips as he caught sight of your blooming blush.
The moment was cut short as Jesse splashed salty water right in his face. You didn't even get a chance to process the expression on his face, the water having wiped it away, as a surprised yelp escaped Fives.
His hand flew to his face, a guttural groan leaving his lips as he swore. His form was hunched over, his hand wiping at his eye.
Before you knew it, you were up and running towards the water, your sunbed abandoned and dusty in your wake.
"Fives?!"
His attention snapped to you at the sound of your voice.
A gasp left your lips.
His eye. The usually tawny skin surrounding his eye had now gained in darker colour, the area a faint red under the sunlight. Tiny, crimson vessels coated his sclera, reaching with thin, curly tendons towards his iris.
Just what was in that water? Surely it shouldn't be this bad.
Jesse was quick to utter apologies, his mouth cast into a downturned smile.
"Jesse it's fine," Fives insisted, "It's nothing." He continued, rubbing at his eye, the corners of his lips fighting an oncoming scowl. His attention quickly diverted from Jesse, focusing on you just as your feet reached the water.
Your body stuttered, your movements faltering as you glanced down at the waves.
Fives eyed you wearily, noticing the hesitation plastered all over your features.
But then in a flash, the water was already hitting your knees, lazily crashing against your waist as you progressed further. Goosebumps rose all over your body, visible under the blaring sun.
Your stomach twisted into a ball of thread, bile rising in your throat. You squeezed the water bottle and towel in your hands, then proceeded to raise your arms into the air like a cheering fan.
The water was now waist-deep, splashing against your torso and swaying your body back and forth.
Pieces of broken pebbles dug into the balls of your feet, and you had to supress the urge to scream when a floating piece of seaweed tickled at your ankles.
A small wheeze left your lips though, and as you reached Fives and looked up, you noticed the concerned expression on Jesse’s face. Was it for Fives or for you? You couldn’t quite tell.
"Let me see." You requested, placing your busy hands on top of Fives’ shoulders.
"General, I'm fine. It's just a bit of water." Fives winced as he attempted an eyeroll, his hands having wrapped around your wrists.
He failed to notice the brief flash of panic in your eyes or the tension in your jaw as the water splashed onto your chest.
"Just a bit of... Water?" You repeated, swallowing harshly. Tugging your hands from his hold, you looked back up at him. "You look like you’re on some hard spice, Trooper. We’ll get your eye rinsed; we don’t know just how safe the water is."
The men behind him had gone awfully quiet, Fives noted as he silently pleaded with you. His eyes searched yours, his head tilting just the slightest. He wasn't a fan of silence, at least not when it came from his squad mates. And he knew all to well that they were watching like hawks, supressing their laughter.
However, as you stood there looking up at him, he couldn’t help but allow his resolve to crumble just a tiny bit. Who could say no to those sweet puppy eyes? Maybe Echo. Most definitely not Fives.
"Alright, lead the way." He finally let up, heaving a sigh. His eye was stinging a bit too much and it’s not like he minded the extra attention from you.
A snicker left one of the men behind you, and Fives was quick to whip his head around, motioning for them to ‘zip it’.
"General?"
"Fives?" You pursed your lips as you looked up at him, though you didn't last long as your gaze faltered, focusing on your primary target, the sunbed. You wouldn’t be rinsing his eye on the sand; it was too hot, and it felt like walking on lava rocks.
“Is it that bad? Or did you just want me all for yourself?” He asked, nudging your side with his elbow.
Wordlessly, you pushed him onto your sunbed.
“Aggressive, I can work with that.”
“Shut it.” You laughed out, shaking your head.
By that point, Rex had slowly begun waking up, rubbing tiredly at his eyes.
A confused hum left his lips as he noticed the state of your clothes. They were wet. Soaking wet, in fact.
"General?" His voice was deeper than normal, more guttural as he was recovering from his nap. "Why are you...Wet?"
“No reason, Captain.” You shrugged your shoulders with a wink.
Rex looked to Fives, giving him a confused look. He sat up in his sunbed, crossing his legs and rubbing his face. “There’s a first time for everything, I guess.”
“First time? First time for what?”
“Oh? Didn’t you know? Our General- “
“Rex.” The way his name rolled off the tip of your tongue had shivers running down his spine. It carried authority and a warning, but the captain was feeling quite daring. His chest puffed up, his whole demeanour changing. This wasn’t your sweet Captain Rex, this was cheeky Cadet Rex, ready to tell the most embarrassing of stories to his brother.
He looked over to Fives, leaning back on his hands.
“Our General over here is terrified of water.” He mused, recalling a specific memory, “On one of our first missions together, we were sent to a swampy planet. The General had us all fooled at first,” He paused, snickering at the displeased expression on your face, “The second a frog swam by, she was screaming and jumping into my arms. Jesse almost blasted the poor thing to bits!”
“Rex!” You exclaimed, throwing the damp rug at him, “You promised not to tell anyone!”
Rex sputtered as the cloth hit him square in the face, launching it into the air in retaliation. “Fives isn’t just anyone! Am I right or am I right?”
Fives looked between the two of you, his brows raised in shock and his eye looking much better.
“General? I’m not just anyone, I’m your favourite ARC Trooper!” He shook his head, pressing a hand to his chest. “I can’t believe you!”
Before you could deny his words or assure him, Rex was already stood by you.
“See General? You hurt his feelings.”
“N- No I didn’t! Fives you are my favourite, just don’t tell anyone, alright?” You pleaded, attempting your best puppy eyes yet. Your attempts faltered as he shook his head, feigning a hurt look.
“I’m not sure, General. You’ll have to make it up to me somehow,” He paused, exchanging mysterious looks with Rex.
“How can I make it up to you?”
“Oh I don’t know.. I’ll have to get back to you on that.” He retorted, pouting at you. Sometimes you forgot just how childish the man could be. You clutched the empty water bottle in your hand, readying it as your next weapon for Rex.
Turning towards him, a fake scowl twisted your expression.
“Don’t look at me like that, General, it’s a waste of a pretty face.” He quickly said, shielding his face as you raised the water bottle. Before it could leave your hands voluntarily though, a pair of arms wrapped around your waist.
“H- Huh?” A gasp left your lips as your body was swiftly rotated and slung over Fives’ shoulder like a sack of rations. That man really harboured more strength in those biceps than you knew. “Fives? What are you doing?”
“I’m having you repay me! Starting now!” He exclaimed and began moving. Rex moved to his side, keeping in step with Fives. Your eyes widened as the sunbed slowly moved further and further, becoming a distant promise of safety and comfort as salty waves made contact with Fives’ feet.
“Fives! L- Let me go! Please!” Your voice was reaching new peaks, rising higher and higher as you began kicking your legs. “I- I can’t swim!” You continued, lightly hitting his back.
His steps began to slow. You held your breath, leaning your head as far from the water as possible.
“You can’t swim? Are you serious or are you bullshitting me, General?” He asked, looking towards Rex, who only gave him a shrug of his shoulders.
“I promise! Please, please, please don’t go any further.” You pleaded once more, looking over to Rex too. Your hands were clasped together, as if you were praying to the two men. He exchanged glances with Fives, wordlessly communicating.
Rex looked over to you, pursing his lips.
“What’s holding y’guys up?” Hardcase shouted, coming closer and closer. “And since when did the General go into water that isn’t a part of her refresher?” He asked, coming to a stop with the three of you.
“Hardcase! You know I can’t swim! Help me, please!” You began kicking your feet again, leaning your head to the side. Your hands pushed against Fives’ back, attempting to heave yourself off.
His grip on you only tightened, and a squeak was forced from your chest as his palm squeezed your thigh.
“The General is a worse swimmer than me! At her level she isn’t even a swimmer, she’s a sinker!” He exclaimed, pointing to himself, Fives’ shoulders shook as a small laugh escaped him. You could feel the blood rushing to your cheeks, setting your skin aflame.
“Fine, I’ll let you go, but only ‘cause I trust Hardcase.” His voice was gruff as he lifted your body, slowly placing you in the water. Goosebumps attacked your skin once more, but this time from the chilling cold that encased you. Looking up, Fives wore a grin that challenged that of the cheshire cat. “You should see yourself, General. You look like an angry loth cat.” He said, pinching your cheek with one hand as the other rested on your waist, his hold firm but gentle, his thumb caressing your waist in small, centred circles.
Swatting his hand away, you looked back down to the water. It rested just below your hips but would venture higher up as the waves moved back and forth.
“D’you wanna go further?” Fives asked, his voice much closer now. Looking around, you noticed that Rex and the others had moved further into the water, where it now reached their chests.
Shaking your head, you turned back to Fives. “I can’t swim, plus I don’t have the same height advantage as you,” You paused, pointing to the others, “I’d be under water where they are now.”
A soft chuckle escaped his lips, crows’ feet tugging at the outer corners of his eyes. Your hands rose to his chest, steadying yourself as a rogue wave lifted your feet off the ground.
“C’mon, you can sit on my shoulders? I’m sure the others would be more than happy to have you around.” He asked, giving your waist a faint squeeze.
You took a moment to think over his proposition. Sure, being on his shoulders would mean you get to, mostly, stay out of the water. But what if you fell off? You cringed at the thought of water invading your nose, burning your windpipe and choking you from the inside out.
“I- I don’t know…” You paused.
Slowly, you looked up, your breath hitching in your throat. He was already watching you, admiring the tiny expressions you made as you watched his brothers. There was this smitten look resting across his face, as if you were the prettiest little thing he’s ever seen.
His face was so close, his body slightly brushing against your own. His scent invaded your senses, so much so you could almost taste it on the tip of your tongue.
The sunlight reflected in his eyes, outlining the different shapes and shades as if you were looking into a kaleidoscope. His irises had this gorgeous colour of warm honey, and they sparkled like a pair of amber crystals under the soft sunrays.
His skin glowed under the warmth, the rich olive colour becoming tanner the longer he sat outside of his armour, making Fives look healthier and happier. All of the men, in fact. Though their armour kept them safe and sound, you couldn’t help but marvel at the sight of them. They were in their zone.
Fives’ hand moved up to your face, his eyes concentrated on a stray piece of hair. The soft smile kept playing at his lips, never fully going but never fully staying.
There was a tension in his jaw, however, as his fingers toyed with your hair. It was like he was holding something back.
He moved the strand away, gently tucking it behind your ear, as best as it would go anyway.
“You’re gorgeous, cyar’ika.” His words came out as a whispered prayer, his gaze so tender and loving as he caressed your cheek with his knuckles.
It was as if your brain short-circuited again; his words dropped on you like a heavy boulder, so sudden, and yet your heartbeat was now racing a thousand miles per hour. Your breath was caught in your throat, and your mouth suddenly felt dry. Was this normal? Were you panicking or were you blushing? Were you going crazy? What was happening?
“F- Fives…” You whispered, your grip on his chest tightening. You never expected those words to come from him, or anyone at all. They weren’t meant for you. But if so, why did they make you so happy? So ecstatic and why did he make you swoon so hard?
He leaned his face a tad closer, just enough for you to feel his breath fanning over your lips.
You could feel his warmth, it was comparable to the sun itself. It rode in your veins, it had your blood bubbling up in excitement the longer he looked at you. You were just a small planet orbiting his sun, being pulled in closer and closer until all you could feel was the heat and the burn of him.
His tongue darted out to lick at his bottom lip, ridding it of dryness and discomfort.
But that small action had you going wild, feral even.
In that split moment, your gaze flickered to his lips. For a man who spent the majority of his life on a battlefield, his lips sure looked plump and made just for kissing.
It was like you were gravitating towards him, like a comet curve-balling around his planet, entangling around his soul and burning brightly at each twist and pull. His hold on you had your legs melting, as if you were nothing but a shard of ice, being thawed away at by his warm touch and sweetly whispered nothings.
His hand tilted your jaw, just enough for your lips to rest an inch from his. Any closer, and you’d be kissing, melting into one another.
Before either of you could do more, say more, the distant voice of Hardcase called out to you.
“Are you two comin’ or what?!” He shouted, cupping his mouth with both hands.
You jolted in your spot, effectively snapping out of whatever spell the man before you had cast on you. Clearly, he had been put under a spell too as his hands retracted and his posture stiffened.
“We’re on our way!” He shouted back, waving Hardcase off. His attention quickly returned to you, but the spell was now gone.
A lump formed in your throat, and you swallowed it down with struggle.
Uncertainty and fear tugged at your heartstrings, and Fives knew exactly what that meant.
“G- General-“
“I need to go.” Your voice was meek and shallow as you retracted from his touch, as if he left your skin with painful burns and sears wherever his fingertips touched. “Alone.” You continued, placing a hesitant palm on his chest as Fives attempted to follow you.
This couldn’t be happening.
With your back turned to him and your figure disappearing into the distance, Fives couldn’t help but curse under his breath. His lips slightly agape, he stood in the same spot you left him in just moments ago.
How could he have ruined everything in such a short amount of time?

just a little love
synopsis: as you're busy reading in your coruscant apartment; fives really craves some attention and affection from you.
contains: fives x gn!reader, kisses, fives being clingy, pure tooth-rotting fluff, self-indulgent [repost after being shadow-banned]
warnings: non-sexual making out. yeah it's a thing. my asexual soul only found out that most people on this cursed earth consider like, french kissing and neck kisses inherently suggestive like 4 weeks ago so if you wanna read it like that, sure. but it's also fiction where i can have whatever i want so just know this was made with the intent of it being SFW romantic fluff and that's how it's written. i hope this isn't too confusing to my allosexual audience, bear with me here.
word count: 2k
The rain seemed to be hitting the windows of your small Coruscant apartment but you paid it no mind. The thick glass shielded you from the relentless storm outside and your nose was buried in your newest novel; an adventure of two mercenaries doing seemingly impossible jobs throughout the galaxy. You had made yourself a cup of tea and the steaming beverage as well as the warm blanket you had thrown over your lap soothed you and helped you focus on the story. You hadn't gotten very far in the book yet; only having just started Chapter 5, but you already had a feeling that this was going to be a good one.
You were about to find out whether the two protagonists would manage to make it to Tython to find an ancient Jedi holocron for their client when you heard sounds coming from the bedroom. You noted that Fives must have woken up. This was his first day on shore leave and as much as he had enjoyed the nice lunch he had shared with you and the holofilm you two watched together, the campaign before had tired him out. So the two of you had laid down in bed and cuddled; Fives having fallen asleep in your arms to the sound of your heartbeat and the soothing motion of your fingertips running up and down his back.
Once you had woken up, you couldn't fall asleep anymore so you opted for finally getting started on that book you bought; getting up quietly as to not wake your favorite ARC Trooper. You had pressed a soft kiss to his cheek and left him to finish his nap, instead sitting down on the living room couch.
But now that Fives was awake, it didn't take long for him to show up in the doorframe, dressed in black pajama shorts and a loose fitted blue 79s shirt he, according to his own words, had won in a Karaoke competition. You gave him a soft smile. "Slept well?", you asked before returning your attention to the datapad you were reading on.
"Hmm... I missed you though", he mumbled and made you laugh with the almost pouting tone in which he said it. He sat down beside you and wrapped his arms around your waist, leaning against you and resting his chin on your shoulder. You could tell right away he was in a clingy mood and when Fives wanted attention, he wasn't exactly subtle. The way he had basically slumped against you with his whole body weight and attempted to snuggle up to you, despite your sitting position and the way you were holding that datapad making it pretty difficult, had already given you an idea of his current state.
But when you continued reading instead of putting the datapad aside and giving him the affection he was looking for, Fives decided he had to dial it up a notch. "Cyare...", he started carefully, turning his head on your shoulder to press a few soft kisses to your neck that tickled you, "you know I'm only on leave for a couple of days... then they're putting me back in the danger roulette with all the separatists, clankers and evil alien machines that want to kill me."
He sat up and and put a finger to your chin, turning your head towards him and pecking your lips gently. "You're the only thing I look forward to when I'm on leave... well besides not having to fear for my life", he continued and you let out a sigh. Fives nuzzled your cheek, leaving a few kisses on your skin every once in a while. You paid him no mind. There was however a subtle smile tugging at the corners of your mouth. You couldn't deny that you liked Fives being a little clingy and sappy sometimes.
Fives wondered whether you had understood that he craved your affection. "Can I kiss you?", he asked and poked your other cheek with his pointer finger, resting his chin on your shoulder once more. "I really want to kiss you."
You wrapped an arm around his shoulder, gently running a hand through his hair. "Believe it or not, I got that cyare", you chuckled and your tone softened a little. "Let me just finish up this chapter. Shouldn't take more than 10 minutes."
Fives' response to that was attempting to sit down on your lap, pushing your datapad closer to your face due to the proximity. You looked up from the device and gazed at him through half-lidded eyes, raising your eyebrows. "You're a pain, you know that?"
He chuckled. "You don't mean that."
You let out a sigh and handed him the datapad. "Can you put this on the table for me?"
There was a triumphant smirk on his face when Fives took the item from you and leaned back, turning slightly to place the datapad on the living room table behind him. Once he had turned towards you again, he inched closer to you on your lap and you snuck your arms around his waist, pulling him flush to your chest. You could feel his weight on your legs, knowing he was technically too heavy for you to keep him here for long, but you tried to brush that thought aside.
Fives was so close to you now that you could feel his breath on your lips and he smiled at you softly; a loving gaze in his eyes before he cupped your face with his hands and pressed his lips to yours. You closed your eyes and kissed back immediately, slowly and lightly pecking his lips with your own. You could feel his lower lip slightly tremble under yours and you went to gently pluck on it with your lips. Fives let out a content sigh and pressed a more firm kiss to your mouth, then your cheek and several spots along your jawline.
"I love you so much...", he mumbled between kisses, making you smile at him.
"I love you too", you responded quietly, pulling him in for another round of kisses to his lips, your tongue gently sliding over his bottom lip and being met with a sweet taste. You pulled away for a moment, smirking at Fives. "Are you wearing lip balm?"
Fives chuckled slightly. "Had to. How else am I supposed to convince you to keep kissing me?"
"What makes you think I'd say no to that?", you pressed another soft kiss to his lips and Fives went in for another two as soon as you pulled away.
"You just did", he responded, thinking back to you reading on the couch.
"No, I said 'wait a second'", you reminded him and Fives grinned.
"If we spend all our time waiting, life passes us by", he proudly proclaimed and you rolled your eyes.
"Do not give me words of wisdom to justify your abysmal lack of patience", you laughed and Fives chuckled as well. "What flavor is this anyway? The lip balm?"
"It said bubblegum peach on the package", he answered and you shook your head with a smile at the mental image of the 501st elite ARC Trooper, slayer of battle droids, walking into a drug store and buying something called 'bubblegum peach lip balm' just to kiss you later. Then again, that was something Fives would do. "Do you like it?"
You pondered the question for a moment, chuckling to yourself. "Jury's still out on that one", you teased and pulled him close again, pressing your lips flush against his before opening your mouth slightly. Fives' plucked at your lower lip gently before his tongue slid in to meet yours in a loving, slow kiss. You felt a fluttering sensation in your stomach and Fives wrapped his arms around your neck, the motion lifting his shirt a little. You shifted the position of your arms and wrapped them around his exposed midriff, your fingers gently drawing circles onto his sides; something you had learned did not tickle him in the slightest.
Fives kissed you slowly but passionately, pouring all his love for you into the gesture and you knew what he tried to convey without him needing to say anything. He had missed you. You had felt the same way while he was away on the campaign. This was him making up for all the times you both had been laying alone in bed at night, wishing to be able to hold the other. Fives already called you every day if possible, sneaking out of the barracks at night in secret to contact you and let you know that he was okay; that he loved you and thought about you. You thought about his brothers and wondered what they would think if they could see him sometimes; sitting on your lap like this and kissing you tenderly over and over again. The difference from seeing him decapitate droids in battle was probably jarring.
You smiled against his lips at the thought, almost letting out a chuckle as Fives attempted to snuggle even closer to you, his tongue moving against yours in a gentle motion. You didn't know how long you remained like this. It was easy to lose track of time when Fives was all you could focus on and he kissed you like you were his favorite thing in the galaxy. He said you were, at least. You vaguely remembered him having followed that up with listing "beds that don't feel like concrete" and "fruity mocktails at 79s" for second and third place.
Sometimes it felt like you could go on like this forever, getting lost in the sensation of his kisses and forgetting about the rest of the galaxy; about the war. For those few days you spent together when he was on leave, a future where the two of you didn't have to worry about keeping secrets and fighting battles seemed almost in reach. You pulled away after a while, noticing how your legs were beginning to feel a little numb from the weight of carrying Fives and you gestured him to lay down.
Once he had done that, you snuggled close to him on the couch, pressing a few lazy kisses to his lips before Fives lifted his head to press one to your forehead, his nose brushing against yours as he did so. You slid down a little to rest your head against his chest, burying your face in the fabric of his shirt. For something they gave away at a Karaoke competition in a clone bar, the shirt was of surprisingly good quality and soft; the comforting sensation made complete by the warmth that Fives radiated. He wrapped his arms around you and held you close, resting his chin on top of your head.
"I still can't believe I'm this lucky", you mumbled and felt his chest rising and falling with every breath. Fives chuckled softly.
"I feel the same way sometimes. A lot of times actually", he had a content smile on his lips and closed his eyes, enjoying holding you in his arms like this. "Want to continue that holofilm later we started on my last leave but never finished?"
You shrugged. "I honestly didn't like that one that much", you admitted and Fives grinned as an idea hit him.
"Then how about a Fives original?", he chuckled and looked at you with a mischievous smile. "Do you want to see Hardcase and Jesse look for the hidden stash of gold from a pirate group in the freezer of 79s? They made me promise not to show the recording to any of our brothers but you're not one of my brothers, so..."
You laughed. "I don't think they'd appreciate if you showed their drunk misadventures to me though."
Fives sighed. "Yeah they wouldn't... still, do you want to see it? I made it a montage and put funny music over it too."
You chuckled and smirked up at him. "Are you kidding? Of course I want to see it."

Fluff for Fox/Fives please? Or even Fox/Fives/Rex. They deserve a happier ending to their encounter 🥲
Fox/Fives!!! Yes! With Rex too. I can do that! I love them. Fives and Fox enable each other but Rex helps keep them from going too far. A good group. Thank you for the prompt and enjoy!
Rex was frozen as he stood in the doorway, a stolen bag of Fox's favorite chocolate covered berries under one arm with a berry half way to his mouth. He was dressed in an oversized blue hoodie with his signature Jaig eyes painted in white and a pair of bright red boxers he had stolen from Fox's closet.
"What the kriff did I walk in on?" He asked and Fox growled lowly in frustration although he didn't look up from his task.
"Your ARC-" he started but Rex cut him off with a noise of complaint.
"Why is he suddenly my ARC when he pisses you off? We agreed that on Taungsday he's the Guard's idiot." He said and finally popped the berry into his mouth and finished entering the room.
Fox was sitting on the couch with Fives positioned between his legs on the floor and a hair brush to his side. Half of Fives' head was arranged in what Rex might have called a high Nabooian style if he was being kind but was honestly just a lot of rubber bands and knots. The other side was twisted into many different braids. Fives was just staring ahead looking resigned to whatever was going on.
"Fine, my idiot ARC let a bunch of cadets use him as a doll and I'm trying to undo the damage without just shaving it all off." Fox finally looked over as Rex flopped on the couch beside him and offered Fox a berry which he took distractedly and ate with a little pleased hum.
"Thorn said they were good at it! I'm going to put green dye in his shampoo." Fives whined.
"You didn't realize Thorn lies like 80% of the time after he convinced you to eat that soap bar shaped like a piece of pie?" Rex asked raising an eyebrow as he stretched out and shoved his feet into Fox's lap so his boyfriend had to lean over them to look at Fives' head.
"It honestly didn't taste that bad." Fives said holding out a hand for a berry as well and Rex rolled his eyes but gave it to him.
The peace that filled Rex as he laid there with Fox slowly unknotting Fives' hair while Fives chattered about his ongoing feud with Thorn had him melting into the worn cushions. There had been several points in the war he had almost given up. Little moments like this made him grateful he kept fighting.

Meanwhile on the Resolute after a campaign that really wore Ahsoka out:
Obi-wan:
Obi-wan: Anakin.. Why are you carrying Ahsoka while she’s asleep?
Anakin: Well.. She fell asleep on my shoulder on the way back to cruiser, and I don’t want to wake her up because she struggles with sleep, but I sorta.. can’t get her to let go without waking her up. She has a death grip on me.
Obi-wan:
Rex: I tried removing her from the general but she wouldn’t budge. She’s stuck to the general like glue
Obi-wan:
Fives: She bit my finger in her sleep when I tried helping the captain, and dank farek her fangs hurt.
Obi-wan:
Obi-wan too tired to debate jedi ethics and rules, just grateful that Anakin won’t be a issue for the next few hours: Alright then..

babby ahsoka + twins
Please enjoy this not proofread not edited not ready WIP! we need more baby ahsoka & clones in the world
---
For the first time in his (relatively short) life Rex was at a loss.
They were investigating some temple on behalf of the Jedi. Anakin had been sent because of his intense attunement to the Force and the 501st had happily followed his lead. Rex hadn’t gotten much out of the man, just that the Jedi would know what to do and all he needed to worry about was following their lead.
Rex was going to kill him.
When they first landed and entered nothing had seemed off. It was an old, crumbling structure built by neither Jedi nor Sith millenia ago. The Jedi wanted it investigated due to the strange flow of energy around it, an energy that had steadily been increasing over the past month until the signal reached Coruscant itself. Rex had braced himself for mental games or mind tricks but there had been nothing.
In fact, there had been so little sign of anything that Anakin decided it would be best for them to split up. Coming as a surprise to no one Ahsoka took Fives, Echo, and Rex along with her down the side passageways, leading them through a winding maze Rex wasn’t sure he’d be able to figure out on his own.
Which was what led them here.
Rex stared down at the three children in front of him and felt the vague urge to cry.
Fives blinked up at him, his big eyes full of curiosity as he looked at Rex’s armor. Rex, still frozen from where he’d busted through the door that had trapped his compatriots, watched as his second waddled up to him and grabbed his kama.
“Fives?” Rex croaked, incredibly out of his depth.
Fives laughed brightly, “See Echo! I told you it would catch on.”
Echo, now half his original size, scowled, “No fair. Why do you get the fun name?”
Ahsoka, his little commander, his almost-sister, his charge, stuck her finger in her mouth and immediately jammed it into Echo’s ear.
Echo yelped, scurrying away from the girl who was grinning with her fangs out, “Ew!”
“What’s your name?” Ahsoka asked, seemingly innocent.
Echo grumbled quietly so they couldn’t hear, still trying to wipe the spit out of his ear.
Fives ran over to him, laughing all the way, “It’s Echo! It’s ‘cause he only repeats what the trainers say!”
“Shut up!” Echo’s face lit up red as he smacked his brother, “I do not!”
“Ow!” Fives whined, rearing up to hit Echo back, “Don’t be such a tubie!”
“I hate you,” Echo growled, “Stop being so mean.”
“I’m Ahsoka!”
Both clone cadets momentarily paused to look at the togruta girl.
“I’m a Jedi!”
And with that their feud was forgotten. Rex sighed and walked over, accepting that this was his life now, as Echo launched question after question at a giggling Ahsoka. Fives was trying to bodily drag her away to see her do “cool Force shit,” leaving Rex to wade in between the pack to pick up the little padawan.
“Hey,” Fives complained, “Give her back.”
“Hush,” Rex fixed him with a look, “Give me a sitrep cadet.”
Fives rolled his eyes, a move that would’ve gotten him another hour of training at the least on Kamino, while Echo stiffened into a less than perfect parade rest.
“Sir!” Echo started, his voice just a little too loud in the echoing chamber, “Myself and CT-5555 were enjoying our downtime in the bunks. We were taking the allotted rest period to sleep and woke up here in this…where are we? Sir.”
Rex sighed, rubbing his eyes with his free hand, “We are on the planet Erot in the Outer Rim. As for the name of this place, I was not granted access to that information.”
All three kids' eyes widened.
“Outer Rim?” Ahsoka asked, “That’s so cool!”
Rex shifted her onto his hip so she’d be easier to carry. If he had to guess, they were all about five or six standard years. They could speak plainly and fluently and had little coordination issues, but they were much younger then they’d been a mere five minutes ago.
“Ahsoka,” Rex started, “Do you remember what you were doing in this room?”
Ahsoka shook her head, now looking around the space, “No. I was in the creche with Uzaa and we were going to class with Master Che. I was late.” Ahsoka looked down sheepishly, a blush of her own on her face.
Rex smiled weakly, “It’s alright. We’ll work it out.”
“Who are you?” Fives piped up, never content with being silent too long.
“I’m Rex,” he could answer that at least, “Captain Rex.”
“Captain?” Echo looked up at him with something like admiration, “Wow. Does that mean the war has started?”
“What war?” Ahsoka asked, now alarmedly squirming in Rex’s arms, “Why do you all look the same?”
Rex winced, “It…may be best if we regroup before we talk about everything,” he said apologetically, “But I’ll explain.”
Ahsoka frowned, wiggling so much that Rex gave up and just set her down, “Okay. Are we going back home?”
That was a good question. Right now Rex wasn’t sure what to do with his sort-of soldiers. And there was no way he was getting back through the tunnel system without a guide to help.
Rex looked around the room, searching for clues or hints of what did this to them. There were strange carvings on the floor in the center and metal piping running along the ceiling, but other than that the place seemed empty. Devoid of anything and everything except for the group of four at the door.
Rex pinched his nose as he pulled up his comm, already dreading this call.
“Skywalker here, what’s your status Rex?”
“Uh,” Rex looked down at three innocent and eager faces, “I need a rendezvous at my position ASAP.”
“What?” Skywalker’s voice changed, now startled and anxious instead of cool and collected, “What happened to Ahsoka? She can’t lead you?”
Ahsoka gasped, “He knows me?”
“...What was that?”
“That is my predicament sir,” Rex sighed again, “I believe your padawan activated something. ARC troopers Fives and Echo are down along with Tano.”
“ARC trooper?!” Fives cried in excitement, now bouncing on his toes, “We make ARC troopers?”
Rex gave all three of them a scolding look and pressed a finger to his lips. They all looked down at their feet, adequately shamed.
“Riiight,” Skywalker drawled, “Sounds like I should see this myself. I’ll be there in a few minutes.”
“Bring Kix please,” Rex tiredly requested.
“Of course,” Skywalker sounded less upset now. It helped soothe some of Rex’s own nerves as he mentally cussed out stupid Force shit in every language he knew. “I look forward to seeing what this is about.”
Rex let out a breath of relief as the call ended. He sat heavily next to the kids, staring blankly at the wall in front of him.
At least until Echo rounded in front of him.
“Captain?” Echo asked in a small voice.
“Yeah?”
“Are we in trouble?”
Rex softened a bit and shook his head, “No. It’s just been a long day.”
Echo hummed, “So is it true? Has the war started?”
Ah yes. The great war. The one they used to dream about as kids. Their strange light at the end of the tunnel.
“Yeah,” Rex said hoarsely, staring into Echo’s eyes and suddenly being hit with the realization that this Echo’s brothers were still alive, “It’s started.”
Echo frowned, “But you’re not an A clone. Why are you deployed?”
Rex shook his head, “It’s complicated. We’ll explain later, I promise.”
Echo seemed unhappy with that answer, but he didn’t get another word in before Fives was bullying his way into Rex’s line of sight.
“You said we’re ARC troopers,” Fives accused, “But we haven’t even graduated our base combat modules!”
Rex laughed softly, “You’ll get there someday. Trust me.”
Fives scowled, unsatisfied with Rex’s half answer but Rex wasn’t really sure how much to tell them. Telling them everything - Rishi, their batch’s destruction, their missions with Torrent - seemed unwise. They were still kids. They deserved to be kids. Just for a little bit.
Rex startled as he felt a weight lean into his side, briefly reaching for his blaster before looking over and realizing it was Ahsoka.
She looked up, her usually large eyes now seeming comically huge on her face, “‘M cold.”
Right. Togrutas were warm blooded. And she hadn’t gotten as lucky as Fives and Echo, whose blacks shrunk with them. She was still stuck with her skirt and stupid tube top. Rex wanted to rip that thing to shreds and replace it with armor. He’d had the instinct many times before but now…
Rex just opened his arms, allowing the girl to crawl into his lap with a happy sigh.
He glanced at Echo and Fives, unsurprised to find them bickering quietly off to the side.
“Boys,” he called, his voice booming around the chamber, “Cut it out.”
Fives made a frustrated noise and stomped his foot, going off to sulk in the corner, while Echo stared after him with an angry look. Eventually the younger of the two made it over, subtly checking out of Ahsoka had left any room in Rex’s lap.
Rex scooted backward against the wall so the three of them could sit more comfortably before he called out, “Fives. Come here.”
Fives turned around, stuck his tongue out, and turned back to the corner.
“CT-5555,” Rex put a little more authority into his voice, “Now.”
Fives hesitated, fighting with himself a little bit, before groaning and stomping over. Rex gave him an appraising once over, finding nothing wrong with him other than the attitude.
“What’s this about?” Rex tried his best to go for strict older brother but he was pretty sure the image was ruined by the two kids in his lap.
“Don’t wanna be here,” Fives mumbled, crossing his arms and looking down, “I miss 4040.”
Ah. Cutup. Fives’ favorite of his old batch.
Rex relaxed a bit, crooking his finger at Fives and watching the kid tentatively step toward him, “It’ll be alright. We’ll get you three fixed up in no time.”
“Fixed?” Echo craned his neck to look up at Rex.
Rex winced, knowing where Echo probably jumped to, “Back home, I mean.”
Echo nodded, slumping against Rex as Fives tried, and mostly succeeded, to fit himself between his brother and his future commander. Rex held the three of them in his arms and tried to remember to breathe.
He didn’t know what to do with this. They couldn’t fight and there was no way in hell Kamino would take Fives and Echo back. He didn’t have the first clue what to do with Ahsoka, hell he didn’t even know if they’d allow her back at the temple after this. Were the Jedi as strict as the Kaminoans? Certainly not except for the exceptional cases. The issue was this was most certainly an acceptable case.
They sat in a tight anxious silence for the next few minutes. Rex was shielding as best he could, but his skills were rudimentary at best and he knew it was getting to Ahsoka. Adding on to that Fives and Echo kept poking each other and making faces when they thought Rex wasn’t looking. Eventually one of them was going to hit Ahsoka and he just knew that would start an all out war.
Ahsoka perked up before the rest of them, her eyes going wide and her figure stilling. Rex let out a sigh of relief, well aware of what that meant by now.
Sure enough, a few moments later they heard hurried footsteps and a few calls between troopers. Rex had them all stand, drawing his blasters and putting on his helmet as he walked to the door.
Skywalker was the first in line, his face curious but not alarmed. Rex let the blasters fall when he saw him, nodding respectfully to his general.
“Rex,” Anakin greeted him, “Mind showing me what this is about?”
Rex nodded, peeking over his shoulder to see Jesse, Kix, and Hardcase. That was good. The boys would love Hardcase.
“Yeah,” Rex stepped aside and pointed at the trio of children, “Feel free to take a look.”
Anakin, it seemed, had the same reaction to children as Rex did. Which was freeze.
Kix nudged him aside easily, sparing a curious glance at his general, before he too paused in the doorway.
“Hi!” Ahsoka waved cheerily, one of her hands in Echo’s, “I’m Ahsoka!”

"In darkness, we transcend"
Chapter 1: R3
Series Description: In a mission gone wrong, Obi-Wan has vanished. It’s up to Anakin to find the ex-Jedi turned Michelin star chef who may know where he is. To say they don’t exactly get along would be an understatement. But with a shared goal, who knows what’s possible?
Pairing: Anakin Skywalker x Reader
Word Count: 4.1k
A/N: First comeback series in 3 years! Figured it was only appropriate to write about the character that got me into fanfiction in the first place. Fair warning, this is so far from canon it’s hilarious. Also, any and all criticism is welcome, and please let me know what CWs may need to be included! I hope you enjoy! <3
“I need a fire on that Bantha Steak for R3 Chefs!” You yell, your voice barely audible over the frantic uproar in the kitchen. The urgency is palpable, and the chaos would overwhelm any average human, alien, or droid.
“Coming, Chef!” Chef Cora carefully tosses the mid-well Bantha steak into the trash can.
She bites her lip. She knows this won’t end well with you. She has no choice but to re-fire and start again. The steak needed to be medium rare, and it was the signature dish. She couldn’t fuck it up. “Like a Bantha!” had a particular reputation to uphold as one of Coruscant’s most prominent restaurants, even earning itself a Michelin Star last year.
Cora’s hands are sweaty, and she feels her breathing hitch as she stares at the overdone steak in the trash. Her mind is spinning; she is overwhelmed by the fear of disappointment. She chooses to keep her re-fire on the Bantha Steak to herself, opting for it to be a better option than to tell you. She squeezes her eyes shut and hurries over to the cooler to pull a new Bantha steak.
“Chef Cora, what is taking so fucking long!” You look up from your tickets, the sweat dripping down your brow and burning your eyes.
You wipe it away and brush the hair out of your face as you walk over to Sautee's side, where Cora is. You take in Cora's rushed energy and attitude as you glance down at the hidden, raw bantha steak in Cora’s gloved hands while she begins to deglaze her pan. You can already feel the anger burning within you; The temptation to do it yourself is immeasurable.
“Chef Cora, what the fuck is this?” Startled by your presence, Cora faces you, dropping the raw bantha steak on the floor instead of the pan.
“Chef, I-”
“Chef Cora, what did I say about this? What did I say that we couldn’t afford to do?” The anger was seething from your lips as you spoke to the older chef. Yet, you seemed to remain composed and calm at the same time. Arguably, more terrifying.
“We couldn’t-” Cora begins but is quickly cut off by your finger on her lips.
“We cannot afford mistakes like this! That’s two bantha steaks we have lost tonight- not to mention that you failed to inform me of the re-fire of the first one! This is the last dish of the final table turn of the night. We are almost there. Tonight, you will be staying late with me to clean- now finish that Bantha steak, please.”
You glance at her trembling hands, taking you back to when you were once where she was. When you staged, no one was half as kind as you were to your staff. But that wasn’t an excuse. It did make you better, but it also broke something in you. There was a desperate need for perfection- no matter the cost.
“Cora,” your voice softens, “Do you need me to do it for you, Chef?” A slight smile appears on your face as you attempt to bring some sort of comfort to her.
“No, Chef.” She smiled back, accepting your unspoken apology and comfort.
“Do I make myself clear on the importance of this, Chef?” you tease, and Cora seems to relax as she nods.
“Yes, Chef.” She smiles back at you.
“Good,” you pat her shoulders and return to your expo position. “Keep up the good work, Chefs!” you yell to the kitchen staff as an uproar of “Yes, Chef!” is heard from behind you. You can’t help but grin.
You reach your position at the head of the room and look down at the tickets. You realize P3 had been there for a minute, still waiting on that last Bantha steak.
“Fuck.” You mumble under your breath, taking your hair out of its loose bun and running your fingers through it.
The number of tickets surrounding you was overwhelming. You picked up your highlighter, uncapped it, and were unsure what to do. R10 sent back a wine selection. R8 complained about their server. R6 was unhappy with the dessert choice for tonight. It felt as if all of your years leading up to being the CDC and owner of “Like a Bantha!” were for nothing. You could do nothing to appeal to every customer the galaxy brought your way. Maker knows you don’t see how you earned that Star.
“Luca,” You shout at one of the younger chefs as you swallow and choose your course of action over the lack of bantha steak.
“Yes, Chef?” The younger, attractive chef appears by your side with a lustful smile, eager to appease you. It’d never happen.
“Would you be a doll and watch expo for me while I handle R3?” You give him a persuasive wink and gracefully walk towards the kitchen doors as he approaches the line.
“Anything for you, my Chef.” You roll your eyes and open the doors, revealing the restaurant you worked so hard to achieve.
The space was filled with laughter and chatter, bringing a smile to your lips. You thanked the force every day you got to provide something exquisite to the galaxy. You always loved cuisine and could finally bring your gifts to the galaxy and spread the love. What more could you have asked for?
You whisked through the crowded restaurant, past the bar, and into a corner where R3 lay. As you approached the back of a gentleman, you noticed the lone customer. You felt something in yourself panic as if something was wrong with this situation. There was a certain darkness present.
It wasn’t uncommon for people to eat alone in your restaurant; in fact, it was welcomed. You spent several years before you owned “Like a Bantha!” trying every spot in the upper levels of Coruscant as your bank account would allow. You always got odd looks, but once you sat down and were able to savor every ingredient, it was worth it.
At the time, you needed the inspiration; you craved it. You had a forceful desire to open your own place, and you were unwilling to let it go. After everything you had been through before that point, you needed to build something of your own.
You approached the gentleman, seeking the courage within you to speak.
“Hello, sir! My name is Y/N; I’m the owner and chef of this establishment. We are a little behind on your final dish, but I wanted to offer a free round of drinks or dessert. Is everything to your liking so far?” You cleared your throat, eager to hear the response from the paying customer in front of you. You could never take their criticism well. This was your baby, after all.
“Why yes,” he looks up at you, a smile creeping across his face as he watches the panic unravel in your eyes.
“Yes, it is, Y/N Naberrie.” Your eyes widened as his smile grew.
“Gil,” Your voice cracked, and you nervously shifted as you watched your past creep up on you and take a sip of his wine. “No one has called me by that name in a very long time.” You took a seat in front of him. The kitchen could wait. His presence couldn’t mean anything good.
Sitting down, you looked at the restaurant around you and saw what you worked so hard for. You wouldn’t let a corrupt man like Gil take all that away from you. You realize you had never seen the glory and beauty of the room as a customer before, especially during service. You wanted to feel happy, but not with the presence of the man in front of you.
“It’s a nice place,” he sips his wine. “It’ll be a shame it was for nothing.” He sets his wine down and clasps his hands together, awaiting your response. You could tell he was eager to get under your skin. You could feel it.
“What do you want.” Your eyes narrowed as you scoffed. “Whatever it is, I’ll give it to you.” You shifted your hands nervously as Gil sat back, that same wicked smile repainting his face as he watched the desperation approach you.
“Amara will be placing a bounty on your head, Naberrie.” You felt your heart drop as he savored this moment. “You know me, I just listen to orders. And she’s the boss- If you don’t return the credits soon, it’s over. I’m only here to warn you. I came as a friend.” He leans closer to you, basking in your new rage.
“Friend?” You cringed at his words. There is no way in hell you could ever consider Gil Pavan a friend. “As far as I know, you’re just here because you wanted to kill me first before the bounty hunters could even get the chance to.”
Gil grins at your accusation. Oh, do you know him well, as much as it would pain you to admit.
“I gotta say, I am only here to see what you have done with the funds you stole. Amara means well. You know she does. But she will never forgive you for this betrayal.” He motions to the room around him, the credits on display, as he lifts his wine glass and drinks it again.
“Y/N, she loved you, we all did.” He swallows his pride momentarily and looks into your eyes, searching for any remorse you can offer.
“Gil, I only took what was rightfully mine. After Amara sold me out to the Separatists, we both got what we deserved. And I’m finally happy, I built something I love! Isn’t that enough? If you all truly loved me as you say, wouldn’t you be happy for me too?” Gil looks deep into your eyes, and a roaring laugh escapes his throat at your confession.
You stand out of embarrassment, feeling worse than when you approached the table. You carefully looked around as you stepped away from the table and began to head back to the kitchen. Your clientele did not need to see the CDC like this. If anything, this was the worst way you could have been seen. You did not need the media to depict you weakly, and you certainly didn’t need rumors about yourself going around.
“If you just came back, Amara may be able to forget all of this.” You stop in your tracks and turn to face him again, approaching him in a far more menacing way than before.
“Gil, I swear to the maker, nothing will ever- and I mean ever- get me to join your fucking cult again. If it means I have to die with this restaurant, I fucking will.” You spit at him as he nods, shrugs, and returns to his wine.
You walk back to the kitchen and notice your hands shaking. You haven’t had a confrontation like that in a very long time. Your past struggles with anxiety began to reappear. That was the last thing you needed right now. But a part of you couldn’t get his words out of your head. It’ll be a shame it was for nothing. There was no way in hell you could let that be true.
You walk into the kitchen. The room goes silent as everyone stops and turns to face you. You can’t help but relish the moment, your smile finally creeping back onto your lips again.
“R3 has been handled. I will be stepping out back for a moment. Luca and Cora will continue to lead in my brief absence. Please, Chefs, handle yourselves. You know what I expect.” As you walked outside, you heard another resounding “Yes, Chef!” come from your loyal employees.
You stepped outside and looked up at the remaining cityscape above you. From the 5100th level, there was still so much to look at. You closed your eyes and took a deep breath. You hadn’t meditated in so long but needed it this time. You couldn’t afford to lose everything you had. So much was now at stake.
Coruscant was never home, no matter how hard you tried to make it be. It couldn't compare to Naboo's lush valleys and hills, especially the lake country. It wasn’t grand and beautiful like your home city of Theed. However, in all the time you had spent here, you had grown to enjoy it and become fond of the people and memories surrounding you.
You felt your heart pang with a bit of guilt from the way you treated Cora earlier. She didn’t deserve your harsh words; you only hoped she knew you meant well. You just wanted to see her succeed, and maybe you weren’t going the right way about it. You thought about Luca and let out a light chuckle. That boy was relentless with his flirtation, but it wouldn’t change the younger brother status he held onto. These employees were like your children. You loved them and gave them your all. You couldn’t bear the idea of losing them, the idea of them losing something they helped you build. ”Like a Bantha!” was just as much theirs as yours.
You reach into the neckline of your chef's coat and pull out a silver necklace from around your neck, revealing its stunning crescent moon shape. You hold it in your hands and close your eyes, letting the force echo take you back to seeing Padme’s face when she gifted you the matching necklace. Gods, you missed her. She was your best friend, and it had been years since you last saw her. You saw all the good she had been doing for the galaxy in the news, and you had been so busy with your Michelin-star restaurant that you forgot to reach out. Of course, you knew she was proud of you, and she knew you were proud of her. That was all you could ask for right now.
You put the necklace back down into your shirt, sighed, and opened the door into the chaos that could only be complete with you at the center of it all. You grinned. This is what you were made for. You couldn’t help but enjoy it.
Anakin couldn’t sit still.
To be fair, it was never in his nature to do so.
He paced around his quarters, picking up every book, scrap, and anything he could distract himself with as he missed out on the latest Separatist mission. If he didn’t, the anger would only return and take hold of his conflicted mind. He couldn’t stand not being there and taking a stand against those cruel motherfuckers. What was his purpose as a Jedi if not to serve his people?
Anakin was currently facing probation by the Jedi Council for disobeying direct orders in their recent mission, resulting in the death of a few clones, the loss of vital intel, and, more importantly, a failed mission. I mean, how was he supposed to know the Separatist hideout was covered in bombs?
As a result, and much to Anakin’s embarrassed dismay, the council sent Obi-Wan and Ahsoka instead. Of course, he felt guilty, ashamed, and angry about everything, but he longed for the council to see that he was only human and trying his best. But, of course, the Jedi are supposed to be better than that. How could he forget!
He stared at the mess his quarters had become. Books from the archives were scattered, and numerous boots, random articles of clothing, and training gear were haphazardly thrown around on the floor. He peered at the desk and traced his fingers over some notes and the numerous filled journals he had accumulated over the years. All his inner thoughts, lessons, drawings, schemes, whatever he put his pretty mind to were documented in a couple of leatherbound notebooks. The desk was old, featuring some interesting carvings from the several times he was punished as a youngling and forced to study. A half-dead plant was next to a cup of pens, a stack of books in the middle, as well as a framed picture of him, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka with the 501st on top. He tried to give his quarters some life; it was the little bit of comfort he thought this place could bring him.
His bed was never made, his dresser drawers never closed, and the plant was never watered. The room directly reflected him. Anakin never let others in his quarters.
After relentlessly pacing and practically pulling out his curly hair, he decided to lay on his bed and close his eyes. He needed to meditate more anyway. He thought it helpful to picture his time as a youngling and the trouble he used to get into while being Obi-wan’s padawan. Jumping from rooftops, destroyed lightsabers, petty arguments, and lots of sparring. Maybe he would find some guidance there? His mind took him to Ahsoka and the trouble they always seemed to find themselves in now. He grinned upon seeing the memories, knowing that his path was the right one. He never asked for Ahsoka, yet she found her way to him. He’s discovered more about himself and his purpose through being her master than he could have imagined.
Through his meditation, his mind took him somewhere else. Somewhere that wasn’t his own. His brows furrowed, and his heart rate accelerated as he began to see the unknown. He wasn’t ready to face another vision like the few he previously had about his mother. However, he suddenly felt comfort in his fear. He was out of place but yet oddly safe. He saw a messy kitchen, marble countertops, and several people in white coats. He looked down and studied a beautiful steak on top of asparagus and mashed potatoes covered in floral, edible greenery. What the fuck?
He sat up and shook his head for a moment. Then his comms began to beep frantically. Enough worrying about this steak.
“Master Yoda, what seems to be the issue?” He clears his throat, the worry on his face as Yoda's hologram appears before him.
“It appears Obi-Wan has vanished. Need your assistance, we do. Come to the Council, you must.” Anakin feels his heart drop and immediately rushes out the door and into the nearest elevator.
“I’m on my way, Master.” He shuts his comms off and leans against the elevator wall defeatedly.
Why did the council have to put him on probation? Why couldn’t they have just sent him? All of this could have been avoided if he had been there to help Obi-Wan. It’s their fault. As the war continues, the Council lacks the guidance and knowledge it once possessed. The galaxy is far more complicated than they think it may be.
The doors open, and Anakin quickly makes his way in front of the high council, eager to hear about this mission. He’s worried about Obi-Wan but can’t help but be excited for something to do finally.
His eyes drift over to Ahsoka as she stands before the council before him. She looks tired and weaker than she ever did. She was supposed to be with Obi-Wan. What the hell happened?
Anakin studies Ahsoka before him. There are cuts and bruises all down her body, her padawan robes torn and tampered with. She has bags under her eyes and guilt written all over her face. She doesn’t have the bright, confident smile she usually possesses. This Ahsoka before him stares at the floor in front of her Master’s and plays with her hands nervously. He hates seeing her like this. If only he could have prevented this, she wouldn’t have gotten hurt.
“I-I I don’t know, Master Plo. I’m unsure how to answer your question. We arrived at Chandrilla to meet with their General. As we walked from the ship, I noticed what looked like a spare droid part on the ground and reached down to pick it up. When I looked up, I heard Master Kenobi scream my name and vanish right before my eyes. My vision suddenly went black, and I woke up back on the ship. The only thing I have left from the journey, and any clue as to where he went, was this:” Ahsoka held out her hand to the council to show what appeared to be a solid gold, circular pendant with a star in the middle.
“Thank you for your time, Ahsoka.” Master Plo nods and dismisses the padawan.
“Ahsoka,” Anakin grabs her arm before she leaves the room, “This wasn’t your fault, okay?” He searches her face for some sort of reaction, realizing just how guilty she feels right now.
Ahsoka smiles half-heartedly at Anakin as she tucks her head down and leaves the room.
“Masters,” Anakin nods to them in respect as he steps forward in front of the council, “What does that seem to be?”
The council members pass the medallion around and glance at each other nervously. Anakin knew this couldn’t be good. Whatever was involved, he could feel the darkness radiating off of the pendant. What evil force could be at hand here?
“Skywalker,” Windu starts as he passes the medallion to Anakin’s hands. Anakin takes it into his large hands, making it seem much smaller than it actually appears, and traces his fingers gently over the grooves of the star. He can feel his demeanor shift as he furrows his brows and flips the coin over to the other side. “In darkness, we transcend” was inscribed on the back.
“It belongs to a group called the Children of Nox. The Jedi have researched them for years with little hope of stopping them. One of our own got close before being exposed and was forced to leave the order. If Kenobi is truly being held captive by these cultists, then this appears to be a larger problem than we thought.” Anakin balls his fingers into a fist around the medallion, feeling anger course through him as he can only imagine the terrors inflicted upon Obi-Wan.
“Locate Master Y/N Naberrie in the upper levels of Coruscant, You will, young Skywalker.” Master Yoda begins as Anakin looks up and raises a brow. Naberrie? He knows that name.
“What do I need to know?” Anakin was already ready to leave.
“Y/N was once a powerful Jedi amongst our ranks. She abandoned the order after a mission that dealt with the Children of Nox had gone awry. Disbanding their cult was her life’s work amongst the order. Whether or not she had a personal connection to them is unknown, but some of her writings about them are in the archives if you are interested.” Master Windu continues, Anakin suddenly perking up.
No wonder he recognized your name. He had read everything you had written. Your work and fascination with the cult was the little entertainment he sought when his time permitted him to. It was a break from the religious zealots that surrounded him and what he had become. It was a break from the legacy he was creating and the prophecy he supposedly led.
“You should speak with her sister, Padme Amidala, about her current whereabouts. We keep track of our ex-Jedi, but perhaps not as closely as we should.” Master Mundi suggests, feeling the confusion radiate off of Anakin.
“Any further questions, young Skywalker?” Master Yoda questions, and Anakin shakes his head.
“No, Master, I understand the urgency of this. I will discuss what you have told me with Padme and seek my next course of action. I will be sure to update you on my progress.” The council nods simultaneously and dismisses Anakin.
Anakin leaves the high council and decides to take the long way back to his quarters, taking in the information he was just given and letting his mind wander momentarily. He suddenly missed being on probation. In the time he was protecting Padme, he was shocked that a sister had never come up, especially one who was trained as a Jedi. Maybe his friendship with Amidala wasn’t as deep as it had once seemed. Anakin had so many questions and so little answers.
And that steak thing was so odd, too…

Hello, me again!
Can I please get 20 from your Enemies to Loves list with Fives?
Foes to Friends 🌊
🫧 Pairings: Fives X Female Reader
word count: 1k
prompt:
"I think we're friends now," / "Dank Farrik, don't say that,"
You thought war was stressful but it appeared to be nothing compared to your rivalry with the Arc Trooper that is Fives. But, how do you feel when he saves your life without thinking of the consequences?
warnings: Mentions of War, Near Death Experience, Platonic Relationship, Enemies to Friends, Female Reader but could be read as GN, Fives gets injured, Separatist’s Enemies.
sorry for the wait! Hope you enjoy @sleepycreativewriter 🩵
The blaster fire illuminated the darkened corridor of the starship, casting flickering shadows on the cold, metallic walls. Fives and yourself, both hunched behind a crate, exchanging a quick, tense glance.
For as long as you had known him, the two of you had always butted heads. Supposedly it was down to both of your stubbornness and fierce determination that caused endless clashes during missions and today was no different.
After getting separated from Rex and the rest of the squadron, it was just you and Fives stranded together and things were getting hairy.
"Stick to the plan," Fives muttered, his eyes scanning the hallway for movement.
"I am sticking to the plan," You retorted , peering over the edge of the crate. "If you have a better idea, I'm all ears."
Fives shot you a look that said he doubted your abilities, but he said nothing more. Both of you knew that now was not the time for arguments. The Separatists had taken control of the ship, and it was detrimental that you both needed to get to the control room to shut down their systems.
Moving swiftly, your blasters cut through the droids that stood in the way. As you reached a narrow passage, the floor began to shake violently. Your heart began to race as the shaking was then followed by an explosion which echoed through the ship, and suddenly, the ceiling began to collapse.
It happened quickly but without thinking, Fives grabbed at your arm and pulled you out of harm's way, saving you from being crushed into a pancake.
You pant, shaking your hands as nerves and exhilaration flow through you at your close call. "Thanks," you mumble begrudgingly, not exactly used to showing gratitude towards him.
"Just doing my job," Fives replied, though there was a hint of something softer in his tone. It made you pause and think for a moment, watching him but focused back on the task ahead.
Continuing your advance, the tension between you both felt to be easing. Even if it’s only slightly. He had your back covered and you had his
But things went from bad to worse as you both approached the control room where you fell into an ambush of separatist droids. “We’re out numbered, Fives!” You cry out, shooting and dodging at every chance you get, exhaustion getting the better of you. Just when you thought one wave was down, you were drowned by another and another and another.
"Get to the control room!" Fives shouted over the blaster fire. "I'll hold them off!"
"Are you insane? You'll get killed!" You yelled back, heart pounding. No way you were going to let him do this.
"Just go!" he insisted, physically pushing you towards the door. You meet his gaze, wide and horrified whilst his eyes, usually so full of defiance, now held a desperate determination.
You hesitated for a moment, not wanting him to face the droids alone but then remembered you had to consider everyone else on the ship too. “Fives…”
“What are you waiting for? Go! Leave me!”
A wave of emotions hit you and knowing you had to do this, you turned and sprinted towards the control room. Entering, you curse to yourself as all you could hear and somehow focus on was Fives' blaster firing rapidly behind you. But you had to focus.
Quickly, you began shutting down the systems, fingers flying over the controls like you had done hundreds of times in training. Your mind is running wild and just as you finished, a blaster bolt whizzed past your head. You spin around, ready to meet your fate as you hadn’t even had time to react quick enough to grab your blaster. Heart stopping and your eyes closing waiting for the inevitable and you can only wish you had done all you could for the others but before you could even process anything, Fives was there.
His blaster takes out the droid in a single shot before he leans on the doorframe in agony. He was bleeding and looked exhausted, but he had made it.
You had never been so happy to see him. You rush to his side, looking over his injuries. “Crap, you’re pretty beaten up there.” You sigh and he can only mumble a response which sounded a lot like ‘no shit’ which you couldn’t help but chuckle at.
"You didn't have to come back for me," you say softly, voice barely above a whisper. You didn’t understand it but your throat tightened with emotion.
He meets your gaze, "Couldn't let you have all the glory," he replied with a weak smile. "Besides, someone has to keep you out of trouble."
You rolled your eyes, how very typical of Fives.
Letting him drape an arm over your shoulder, you helped him up and together made your way back to the escape pods after getting the all clear from Rex.
Fives however was clearly struggling, every step he took made him wince. The sight of his pain made your chest ache with a new, unsettling feeling. You came to the realisation with a pang that you cared for him. He had saved your life twice and in all the times you had bickered, you had not recognised how much you valued him until you almost lost him.
As you sat in the cramped pod, waiting for the ship to be out of range, you looked at Fives, seeing him in a new light. The lines of tension around his eyes, the stubborn set of his jaw, all seemed painfully familiar now… it was like looking into a mirror. How could you not see that you both argued because you were both so similar?
"I think we're friends now," you say quietly, trying to lighten the silence.
"Dank Farrik, don't say that," Fives groaned, though there was no malice in his words, only exhaustion and you even saw the flicker of a smile on his lips.
You giggled softly, leaning back and closing your eyes. "Admit it, you care about me."
"Maybe," he muttered, his voice barely audible. "Just because we're similar doesn't mean we can't be allies."
“Friends, Fives.” You reiterate, “We’re friends.”

Summary - A small group of Torrent Company, including Fives, Echo, Hardcase, Rex, and Anakin, are sent down to the icy planet, Hoth, to distribute supplies for the new research facility there. Their stay is extended as they are informed that a scouting patrol went missing, likely from the cold and lack of supplies. The group splits up to scout out the area surrounding the base. The Domino Twins survey the mountain range alone, and of course, run into trouble as an avalanche is triggered. Echo is badly injured in the aftermath, and Fives is turned around with no idea of which way the base is. They must try to survive the icy plains until they are rescued.

Notes: This is for the 2024 Star Wars Prequels Big Bang! @swprequels-big-bang I worked with @thingskorokhasdrawn for the art and @battlekilt as my beta! tysm to both of you, I had sm fun working on this <3 anyways, I promised a while ago on my Tumblr that I'd make some Echo and Fives centric whump, so here it is! please enjoy <3
Echo loaded another crate onto the shuttle. He dropped it with a huff, then went back into the hangar to grab another. A few paces away, Fives chatted with Hardcase.
“Hey, you two mind helping at all?” Echo asked snarkily, though it held no malice. The two other clones turned to him, Fives sticking out his tongue at his twin. Echo mimicked the action.
“Only because you asked so nicely,” Hardcase quipped as he leaned down to grab a crate of supplies.
Fives, being outvoted, did the same. With their combined efforts, they finished the task fairly quickly, just in time for when Rex and the General arrived.
“Alright, boys,” General Skywalker started. “This is a quick in-and-out. We drop off supplies to help get the set-up of a new facility, then we get back to where it’s warm,” he explained. Echo was grateful to know that the group wouldn’t have to spend a night on the ice-flats of Hoth.
“Let’s load up,” Rex ordered, causing the group to board the shuttle and the pilot to get in the cockpit.
“Thank the force we won’t have to be there long,” Echo murmured to his ori’vod .
“I’m sure something will go wrong,” Fives said with a grin as he punched Echo playfully.
“Have a little optimism, vod ,” Echo continued their banter, wrapping an arm around his vod’s shoulder.
The group dissolved into silence, save for the occasional remark from Hardcase, as the ship descended into the atmosphere of the ice planet. They all could hear the harsh wind whipping against the ship’s hull. Echo shuddered at the thought of having to feel the blunt force of that wind.
Soon enough, the shuttle touched down and opened its doors to the harsh cold. Echo frowned as snow flew into the ship. He shook his head and followed the rest of the squad. The ARC trooper rubbed his hands together before grabbing one of the crates.
“Are we sure this is the best place to have a facility?” Fives yelled over the wind.
Echo shrugged in response before Rex answered, “There already is a facility.” The Captain started, “It was a Separatist base, but a squad took out the clankers, and now some scientists in the Republic want to use it.” He explained.
“If this is just a supply drop-off,” Echo said as he carefully put down the crate he had been holding. “Why is the General here?” He asked.
The aforementioned General had gone off to speak with one of the scientists that had taken residence at the base.
“To get a chance to spend some time with his lover,” Fives muttered to him with a nudge. Echo chuckled as he glanced at the Captain, wondering if he may have heard Fives’ remark.
“Or to get away from his other one.” Hardcase joined in with a loud guffaw.
“I can’t take you boys anywhere,” Rex mumbled with a shake of his head, though there was humor evident in his tone.
The troublemakers laughed as they continued to work for several more minutes. Not too long later, they had unloaded all the supplies and were resting.
Echo shivered as a particularly cold gust of wind assaulted him. Flakes of snow had stuck to his armor and melted, leaving small stains on the durasteel.
“When do you think the General will be done?” Fives asked, leaning back against a crate.
“Dunno,” Echo answered with a shrug. “But I doubt there’s much a scientist would need to tell a Jedi,” he guessed. Fives mumbled something about being cold and this taking too long. Echo patted his vod’s shoulder.
“Change of plans!” Echo jumped at the General’s voice. He stood at attention, waiting for whatever miserable news Skywalker had to share. “We’re gonna have to scout out the area around the facility,” he explained. The entire squad’s mood seemed to sink at that; the cold was bad enough already, and there were heaters all around the base. It’d be ten times worse out there.
“What happened?” Rex asked.
“Some troops already stationed here had sent out a scouting party, but they never returned,” he answered with a shake of his head. “It might have just been the cold, or it might have been hostiles. They don’t have enough people to send another scout party, so they left that up to us,” he finished with a frown.
Fives and Echo exchanged a glance.
“Well,” Rex said with a sigh, “Let’s get moving.”
Fives dismounted the tauntaun he had been given and walked over to the edge of the snowy cliff. Over the snowy plains, he searched for some kind of threat; there was nothing; the planet was desolate and empty. “See anything?” Echo called, still mounted. Fives didn’t blame him; the tauntauns gave them a little bit of warmth.
“Just more snow,” Fives replied miserably. He mounted back onto his tauntaun and continued up the mountain. Echo followed.
The squad had split up: Rex with Hardcase and General Skywalker, and Fives with Echo. Echo and Fives were tasked with searching the mountain, then the plains surrounding it. The other group would venture in the opposite direction and search the snow plains there.
Fives rubbed his hands together as he urged his tauntaun to move a bit faster. The sooner they got this done, the better.
“What do you say we take a rest up there?” Echo yelled over the wind, pointing to a ledge not too far from them. Fives gave him a thumbs up, then rode his tauntaun over to said ledge before dismounting.
Echo did the same, then grabbed a metal spike from the satchel on his tauntaun. He plunged it into the ground, then tied the reins around it. Fives got his own and did similarly to his vod .
Fives grabbed a ration bar from his pack and sat down in the snow with it. He took off his helmet and started eating the flavorless meal. Echo sat down next to him, a bit closer to the ledge.
“This sucks,” Fives mumbled between bites. Echo grunted in agreement before looking out over the plains below.
“It’s kind of pretty though, if you ignore the cold.” He said optimistically. Fives rolled his eyes in response.
“Only you could call an empty snow plain pretty.” He muttered snarkily. Echo mimicked him in a high-pitched voice, causing the twins to laugh.
Suddenly, the tauntauns seemed to get anxious. They both started struggling from the spikes, trying to jump away. Fives got up to try to calm his.
“Whoah,” He said soothingly, “Easy girl.” He rubbed the tauntaun’s neck fur, though it did little to calm it. He was about to turn to ask his vod what he thought might be wrong. It seemed like some of the obscure information that he might know, but then he heard a deep rumbling in the ground, followed by the cracking of ice.
“Echo,” He started before the sound got louder. His brother stumbled on the ledge, eyes growing wide as large cracks formed in the ice. Fives jumped towards his brother just as the ledge crumbled, causing both clones to fall down the cliffside.
Fives awoke with a painful cough, followed by a groan of pain. There was pressure on him, like he was buried in something. He kicked out on the small layer of snow that covered half his body, then dragged himself a few feet away.
He curled in on himself, shivering violently. Snow had gotten in his armor, making the insulation useless in keeping him warm. He had no idea where his bucket was, so there was no way to keep his face warm either.
“Echo,” He mumbled, half aware of why he felt the urge to call out for his brother. Then, he seemed to wake up a bit more, and he jolted upright. He didn’t have many injuries, but he felt sore, and the abrupt action sent a jolt of pain through his body.
“Echo!” he yelled, trying to crawl back to the pile of snow he had emerged from. He started clawing at the snow, moving large junks out of the way. “Echo, where are you!” He yelled desperately.
Fives scanned the area around him, hoping to see a hint of durasteel glinting in the snow. He caught a glimpse of something dark a little ways away, and he quickly stumbled towards it.
There was a red stain in the snow, and right next to it, he saw a bit of durasteel armor that hadn’t been covered by the blizzard. “Echo,” he called, digging into the snow until he could feel his brother and drag him out.
He pulled him out by the armpits. His brother was limp in his arms. Echo’s head lulled to the side, eyes closed. Fives feared the worst as he dragged his brother away from the aftermath of the avalanche.
He laid Echo down in the snow. Fives tried to wipe some of the blood off of Echo’s face, but he had a head injury. He shakily felt for his vod’s pulse. It felt weak, but it was there.
Fives shook his vod’ika to try to rouse him awake. He wouldn’t move. He placed pressure on the head injury, trying his best to stop the bleeding.
“ Eyayah , wake up,” He begged, moving to try chest compressions. He didn’t know if that would help, and after a few minutes of it not doing anything, he went back to trying to shake him awake. He fumbled to try and find a stim in his pack, but most of its contents had fallen out during the avalanche.
“ Eyayah… ” Fives’ voice shook as he leaned down and rested his head on his vod’ika’s chest. He felt the rise and fall of his cuirass, which at least meant he was breathing.
Fives sat back up, solidifying his resolve as he decided that if he couldn’t resuscitate his vod , then he would get him back to the base. He whistled for his tauntaun, but got nothing in return. He hadn’t really been expecting anything either.
He looked around through the blizzard. Fives didn’t know which way was to the base, he didn’t even know which side of the mountain they had fallen off of. Finally remembering that he had it, he tried his com-link.
He was only answered by static; the blizzard wouldn’t let the signal through. He tried Echo’s as well but got the same result.
“Kriff,” He muttered, then to Echo, “I’ll get us out of this, vod’ika . Ni oritsir. ” Fives vowed.
He carefully stood, the wind trying to force him back into the snow. He leaned back down and put a hand under Echo’s back, making him sit up. Fives grabbed Echo’s middle and hoisted him onto his shoulder, stumbling slightly from the added weight. He tried not to think about Echo being completely limp in his hold.
Making a guess from the little amount of sunlight he could see through the blizzard, Fives picked a direction, then started trekking through the snow.
It didn’t take long for him to not be able to feel his fingers anymore. He was stumbling through the snow, almost falling several times. The wind did little to help, making it impossible to walk in a straight line.
“I-I’m sure we’re almost there, Eyayah .” He said to his unconscious brother. He had tried talking to him at different intervals, hoping that something would wake him up, or at least comfort him. He was starting to think that he was doing it more for himself than for Echo. It had started to feel like a lifeline.
Fives’ legs buckled from underneath him. He fell face first into the snow, dropping his vod. He just barely heard the sharp intake of a breath as Echo hit the ground. Fives sprung up at the noise.
“Echo?” He asked, trying to shake his brother awake again. The ARC trooper’s face was scrunched up in pain, and he let out a tight groan. “Oh, thank the Force!” Fives said with relief. He knew that a groan of pain wasn’t too reassuring, but it was another confirmation that Echo was alive.
“...Fives?” Echo mumbled with a hoarse voice. Fives laughed hysterically in relief. He was cut short when he noticed the red on Echo’s teeth. He frowned as he remembered their situation.
“I’m right here, Eyayah ,” he said, gently grabbing his brother’s face. He rubbed his thumbs over Echo’s cheeks. His vod leaned into the touch.
“Wha… happened?” He forced out. He was slurring his words, and his eyes were unfocused; it looked like Echo wasn’t even seeing fives.
“Th-there was an avalanche,” He explained, getting up to try and carry Echo again. “I’m trying to get us back to base.” He made the same movements as before to hoist him over his shoulder, but this time, Echo let out a pained sound.
Fives immediately rested his brother back into the snow. He quickly looked over his pained expression, holding his hands up, not sure of what to do.
“What’s wrong, vod ?” He said quickly. Fives ghosted his hands over Echo’s chest after too long without an answer. Echo took in a sharp inhale as Fives touched his side.
“Sith spit.” He muttered. He put pressure on Echo’s side, stopping immediately as Echo let out a pained sound. Echo tried to push him away, his arms flailing weakly.
Fives cooed at him softly, trying to calm his half-conscious brother. “It’s alright, Eyayah , we’re gonna get you back to base.” He promised.
The ARC likely had a broken rib. Fives cursed their luck. How did he end up unscathed while Echo was littered with injuries?
He gently grabbed his brother’s hand and squeezed it. Echo’s eyes were shut tightly in a grimace.
Fives looked around, his vision blocked by the snowy winds. He could just barely make out the outline of a ridge. Fives turned back to Echo.
“This is gon-gonna hurt a lot.” He warned as he grabbed his brother’s arms. He started dragging Echo behind him, leaving a scar in the snow as they went.
His legs gave out again when he made it to the ridge. He fell against it, leaning his head back for a moment. He shivered and hugged his stomach as he curled up.
After he had recovered enough to move again, he pulled Echo close to him. Fives wrapped his arms around his vod , providing as much warmth as he could.
He tucked Echo’s head under his chin, pressing down on his dark curls. He watched as Echo’s breath came out in white puffs. He was still breathing. He was still alive.
“W-we’ll be okay-okay, Eyayah .” He mumbled weakly as he closed his eyes. The two of them were shivering wildly, their bodies trying to warm them up.
He hugged Echo tighter, as tight as his strength allowed. Echo’s head lolled onto Fives’ chest.
“We’ll be okay.”
Fives stumbled again, almost falling. He carried Echo piggy-back style, his arms under his legs to support him. Echo’s head rested on his shoulder.
The sun had broken through the tormenting storm. Fives had found the strength to climb up the ridge they took shelter against and tried to scout out where the base was.
It was far, but he could see it in the distance. Fives cursed himself as he realized he had been going the complete opposite way. He had started the long trek as soon as he felt strong enough to carry his vod’ika .
The cold seeped into his bones, making him shaky and weak. He couldn’t feel his hands when he didn’t move them, and when he did, it was extremely painful. Pins and needles assaulted him with every step he took. His legs were beginning to cramp.
Fives fell again into the snow. Flakes of it shook off of his hair and joined the white desert. Echo was on top of him, and Fives didn’t feel like he had the strength to push him off and get up.
He tried, placing his hands under him and pushing against the ground. He fell back down, his face becoming buried in the snow. He heard Echo’s faint breathing next to his ear.
Fives suppressed a sob. Everything either hurt or he couldn’t feel it. He was impossibly cold. Snow covered his armor and face, freezing on his skin.
Fives reached back and grabbed Echo’s hand. He squeezed it tightly. Fives let his face fall into the snow. He let out a shaky breath. He closed his eyes; he didn’t have the strength to keep going.
“M’sorry,” he said, barely audible even to him.
Rex kicked at his tauntaun, urging it to go faster. His heart was beating a mile a minute. His breathing was shallow and quick.
When they had returned from their own patrol, Fives and Echo hadn’t checked in. He had hoped that maybe they just weren’t at a good place or that their signal was interrupted by the storm.
Then it got dark as the combination of night and the storm blocked out the light of the stars. Rex had worried a bit more, but he trusted his ARCs.
Then, one of their tauntauns came back. Alone. One tauntaun and no rider returning from a patrol of two. Anakin had to physically hold him back from going out into the blizzard to find his ARCs.
He didn’t sleep last night, worry and fear making him too nauseous to keep his eyes closed. He left as soon as the blizzard stopped a bit before sunrise. He guessed the General would be pissed, but there were bigger things to worry about at the moment.
His tauntaun made a noise of protest as he once again urged it to go faster. He thought he saw something out in the distance. He wouldn’t risk being too late because his tauntaun was complaining.
“Fives! Echo!” He tried. His voice was hoarse from yelling out into the snowy planes. He clicked the tauntaun’s side again, whipping the reins.
Rex saw it again. A glint of something blue in the snow. He jumped off his tauntaun, not bothering to bring the creature to a full stop. He stumbled through the snow before regaining his balance, then ran towards that bit of blue he saw.
He fell to his knees as he slid to a stop. He clawed through the snow until he revealed Echo’s face, blood drying on his forehead. He pulled the obviously injured ARC out, then continued to dig for his brother.
Both of them were unconscious. Fives didn’t seem injured, but the cold had exhausted him.
“General!” Rex yelled into his comm, “I found them- I need a medic!” He said frantically. He searched for both of their pulses, Echo’s first. There was a light thumping under his fingers, far too slow.
“ We’ll bring a transport, ” Skywalker said through the comms. Rex didn’t bother answering, too busy making sure his ad’ike were still alive. He moved over to Fives. The ARC looked fairly uninjured, but with the cold, that wouldn't really matter.
Fives mumbled something that Rex couldn’t hear. He turned his attention to him as he cupped his cheek. His eyes were half-lidded, looking vacant.
“Fives-“ Rex’s voice broke, “Fives can you hear me?” He tried. Fives groaned. His eyes fluttered shut as he leaned his head into Rex’s hand.
“ Buir… ” he mumbled weakly, barely above a whisper.
“I’m here, it’s gonna be okay.” Rex assured. He grabbed Fives’ bicep and squeezed it comfortingly, doing similarly to Echo.
“You’re both gonna be okay.” He promised, praying to the Force that it’d be true. Where is that damned transport?
There was a constant beeping in the background. Echo’s sleep-addled brain barely comprehended it. He scrunched up his nose and groaned at the noise, turning over in the sheets so his face was pushed into the pillow.
The beeping persisted, and he begrudgingly opened his eyes. Bright fluorescent lighting made him push further into the pillow, though this time he took his annoyance quietly. He tried again, this time opening his eyes much more slowly.
He was on a medical bed, and there were several blankets piled on top of him. He blinked in confusion, trying to wash away the last of the sleep. It wasn’t standard for any trooper to have so many blankets in the medbay; surely there was someone else who needed them.
He looked around the room. When he tried to sit up, he only collapsed once again as a wave of dizziness made black spots dance across his vision. He shivered, feeling a wave of cold.
He lay facing the ceiling for what felt like an eternity, waiting for this dizzy spell to leave him alone. Once he felt confident enough to sit up again, he fully took in the medbay. No one but him was in the room, though he thought he could hear muffled talking from behind the door.
There was a shuffling next to him; then someone grabbed his bandaged hand. He jumped as he looked down at the surprise person. His face relaxed into a relieved smile at the sight of his brother.
“Go back to sleep, Eyayah .” Fives muttered softly. Echo obliged, laying back down comfortably. However, he only looked over his brother, searching for any injuries he may have had in whatever mission that got Echo sent to the medbay.
“What-” He coughed several times, his dry throat scraping. “What happened?” He asked once he had regained his voice. The ARC slumped into the pillow, content to let the massing heap of blankets weigh him down.
“There was an avalanche when we were scouting.” Fives said, he sounded sad. Echo wished he could squeeze his hand, but the bandaging held his fingers in place. “You got knocked out, I got all turned around. We spent a night out in the cold.” He was starting to sound distant, nothing at all like his chipper self.
“You get hurt?” Echo asked, his voice coming out in a hoarse whisper. Fives only shrugged, turning his face to cover his nose and mouth with one of the wool covers. Echo moved his free hand to rest on top of Five’s head.
“‘M okay now, vod ,” Echo said softly. He tried to fight the urge to sleep again, trying to blink less often once he noticed each blink lasted longer and felt heavier.
“Rex said the General would let us name the base,” Fives cut in, trying to fill the silence. Echo let out a soft hum, having lost the battle of keeping his eyes open. He still felt cold, and just wanted to snuggle up under all the covers. Though, he wished the beeping would stop, even if it was just a heart monitor.
“I was thinking we could name it Echo Base.” Fives said, utilizing a teasing tone. Echo frowned, peeking one eye open as he gave Fives an unimpressed look.
“There’re way cooler names than just calling it Echo Base .” Echo grumbled, scrunching up his nose. Fives snorted as he lightly bumped Echo’s elbow.
“Too late, I already told them.” Echo didn’t need to open his eyes to see the shit-eating grin on his brother’s face. He let out a huff.
“Can’t wait to get a transfer away from you.” He drawled sarcastically. It elicited a mock-offended gasp from his brother. He smiled softly as he let himself sink further into the pillow.

My Thoughts Will Echo Your Name...
Pairing: Echo x F!Reader (eventually)
Summary: After a recent breakup, Fives attempts to get you to leave your house to get yourself back out there, and to meet his closest brother before they ship out, and unfortunately it's very hard to say no to your best friend
Warnings: Drunk clones being jerks, mentions of cheating/gaslighting, alcohol mentions, mostly all fluff, until there's angst
Notes: Happy Echo day!! This will be a two-parter, I'm still working on the second part but my goal is to have it out before long
Word Count: 5.4k
Masterlist
"Fives, I'm serious, I don't feel like going out tonight." Your protests clearly meant nothing to your dear friend who showed up at your door while you were in your sleep clothes, half a bottle of wine deep.
"That's too bad." He said as he invited himself in. "Because you are."
You glared at him as he walked past you. "I'm staying home."
He sighed dramatically, "I barely have any off time, and you know we ship out tomorrow, will you please just come out with me while I have today?"
It was hard to say no to him, not that you'd ever tell him that, but after all that had happened, you had no energy to go out. "Why don't you just stay here? We can watch a movie, have another bottle of wine." You suggested.
"Well, normally I'd love that... but I kind of promised Echo I'd introduce you to him." He grinned, sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck.
"Fives..." You groaned. "I don't want to be introduced to anyone."
"Isn't it time for you to get back out there? I mean, Echo is way better than that other guy, I know you'll love him. He's just like me, but not as handsome or funny."
"He's like you? So I won't like him at all then," you deadpanned.
"You wound me." He said dramatically before miraculously changing his tone. "Now let's go."
"You aren't taking no for an answer, are you?"
"Nope." He grinned. "Tell you what, just come with me to 79's, if you don't like him, or if you're not having fun, I'll pay for your cab home."
"How generous." You rolled your eyes. "Fine. Only to shut you up, I will go with you. Just let me get changed."
"Wear something hot!" He yelled as you walked toward your room, a grin plastered on his face knowing that he won.
"Kriff off." You answered, slamming your door behind you.
You barely had the energy to go out, you definitely didn't feel like wearing something hot. But you also knew Fives was relentless and if you walked out wearing jeans and a simple shirt, he'd march you back into your room and pick something out for you.
But maybe it wasn't a bad idea to go all out. After all, you were certain your ex had immediately gotten back out there after your breakup, in fact you were certain he'd gotten back out there before your breakup.
You shook your head in anger, then rifled through your closet, trying to find something that remotely resembled a club outfit, before you stopped at a dress Fives had gotten you as a joke. It was a cocktail dress, a bit short for your tastes with a deep v-shaped neckline, and of course in "501st Blue" as he put it.
You held it up to yourself, looking at it in the mirror, debating if it was a good choice or not.
"Hey you still have it!" Fives said, standing in the doorway.
You startled at the sudden intrusion. "Privacy?"
"You're taking too long. That's perfect, now put it on and let's go!"
Before you could complain, he closed the door behind him as he went back to the front room to wait for you.
You sighed and quickly changed into the dress before brushing out your hair and wiping away any remnants of yesterday's eyeliner, foregoing a new layer of makeup.
As you walked out of your room, you tugged on the hem of the dress, definitely too short for you, but before you had a chance to regret your choice, you felt Fives' hand on your arm, dragging you to the door.
"Can I at least put shoes on?"
He rolled his eyes, "I guess."
After you had thrown on a pair of black strappy heels, he was once again dragging you by the arm. You didn't even have a chance to fasten the straps, but you resigned yourself to having to figure it out in the cab.
"What's the hurry anyway? It's not like you have to leave tonight."
"I know, but it's never a bad thing to give ourselves more time."
"It's barely even dark yet," You pointed out as you exited your apartment building.
"Well maybe I told Echo we'd get something to eat first."
"Fives!"
"What? We're still going to 79s, just before it gets crowded and too loud for you guys to speak."
"How do you even know Echo will like me?"
"I just know." He flashed you a grin before hailing a cab over to you.
Once inside, you got to work on buckling up your shoes.
"Look," Fives said, his tone more serious than before. "Echo's a good guy, I obviously would never force you to meet him if I thought he wasn't going to like you, or if I thought you wouldn't like him."
"I know that," You told him, looking down at your lap, "I just... With the breakup and everything–"
"It's hard to put yourself out there again. I get it, but just... humor me, okay? And I swear, the second you tell me you want to leave, I'll get you out of there."
When you didn't answer immediately, Fives turned to you. His eyes met yours, seeing your hesitation immediately.
"We can turn around, it's not too late." He offered, his voice gave away that it wasn't really what he wanted, but you knew he'd hold to his word if you asked.
"I'm already dressed." You said, rolling your eyes slightly.
He leaned over and wrapped his arms around you. "I love you, thank you!"
"I know, now get off me." You joked, despite sinking into the hug.
The taxi stopped at the landing pad in front of 79's. You had barely had enough time to scan the area before you heard someone calling Fives' name.
You looked in the direction the voice came from and you saw him bounding over to you. As expected, he looked exactly like Fives, aside from his clean-shaven, tattooless face, and the prominent blue handprint painted on his chest plate.
He stopped in front of you, greeting Fives with a firm hug before looking to you.
You had caught him subtly looking you over, and for a moment you began feeling self-conscious about your outfit choice once again, but that melted when he extended his hand to shake yours.
"You must be Fives' friend, I'm Echo."
You gave him your name with a polite smile, taking his hand. "It's nice to meet you."
"Likewise, Fives has told me a lot about you."
You turned to your friend as if to ask what exactly he had been saying about you, but he changed the subject.
"Let's go inside, I'm starving!" He announced as he began walking toward the bar, leaving you and Echo to follow him.
Fives led the two of you to a booth, and once he had slid in, he stretched obnoxiously, forcing you to slide in next to Echo.
You ensured to keep your distance, trying to avoid getting too close to him, but you also made sure to give Fives a quick glare. He shrugged and grinned in response.
Once your orders were placed, Echo glanced to you.
"Fives tells me that you're a writer?"
"Well, trying to be." You admit. "I'm a journalist, but I want to write more creatively."
"What would you write about?" His curiosity is genuine, he didn't think he had ever met someone who wanted to write books before.
"Me, obviously." Fives chimed in from across the table. "I'd make an excellent hero."
You rolled your eyes, it isn't the first time he has indicated being the protagonist in a story you wrote.
You looked back to Echo and shrugged slightly, "I haven't really decided yet."
"Well, I can't wait to read it, whatever it ends up being." His voice was soft, he seemed excited about the idea, which is more than you could say for others.
Feeling warmth spread across your face, you looked back to the table quickly, just in time for your food to arrive.
The conversations were on and off as the three of you ate. They were mostly between Echo and Fives and you observed the two of them together, but occasionally you joined in as well.
Before long, your meals were done, and drinks had begun to be delivered to your table.
After one or two, Echo looked back and forth between you and Fives, before his gaze rested on you.
"Fives always talks about how good of friends you two are, but I'm curious, you've never... gone beyond that?"
You coughed into your cup before your laughter mingled with your coughing from the drink you inhaled.
"No," Was all you could say, and even that was strained.
You looked to Fives, who was laughing too. "I mean, I can't lie, look at her; she's beautiful. But, not my type."
Shaking your head at his compliment, you had finally cleared the liquid from your windpipe.
You looked to Echo and clarified. "Fives and I have been friends since he came to Coruscant, he asked me out, yeah, but we learned very early on that we were compatible only as friends."
Fives took another swig of his drink before giving you a knowing look. You raised an eyebrow as his focus turned to Echo.
"She's a bit too serious for me, y'know? Like she's smart, maybe a bit of a bookworm, would rather stay in and watch a holofilm, maybe that's why we work as friends. But honestly, she's more the kind of girl you like, Echo."
And there it was.
Your eyes widen slightly at his comment, before you attempt to drown your embarrassment with the remainder of your drink.
You can feel Echo shift slightly in his seat, and you decide it's a great time to go track down refills for the three of you.
Quickly getting up from your seat, you made a bee-line for the bar counter. Pushing through the group of clones that had begun to amass there.
You could feel their gazes upon you but you ignored them as you ordered drinks for your table and waited patiently.
Out of the corner of your eye, you could see the same blue handprint you had noticed earlier, and you turned to face Echo. He looked just as embarrassed as you, but he gave you an apologetic smile.
"I'm... That was uncalled for. Sorry that Fives embarrassed you like that."
You shook your head, "No, it's okay. Truthfully I saw it coming. I'm sorry that he put you on the spot."
"Don't worry about it. I mean, if anything, he's right."
His words took a moment to sink in, and the realization became present on your face as soon as they had.
"What do you mean?" You asked, trying not to jump to conclusions.
"I mean that, if how he described you is accurate, which I suspect it is, I'm the same way. This kind of place, it's fun, and I like coming here with the boys after a mission, but I prefer relaxing in my barracks, catching up on some reading, that kind of thing."
Before you could respond, another clone sitting at the bar turned to the two of you.
"Get a load of this guy, spends his time reading!" He slurred. "What a loser, you could do way better, doll."
He wasn't subtle about the way his eyes trailed up your body. He paused, looking at the hem of your dress, then his eyes continued upward, stopping at the deep-v neckline as he stared pointedly at your breasts.
You immediately felt yourself shrink away from his gaze as you could see him ogling you, but before you could say anything, you felt yourself being pulled backwards.
Echo had grabbed your arm and pulled you into him, shielding you from view while stepping between you and the other clone. He gave him a glare, but said nothing.
"You can't be serious, all that eyecandy for you?" The clone complained loudly. "Whatever, take the dumb chaakar back to your bunk and read to her. I bet that's why she wore that outfit." His tone was laced with sarcasm, and it wasn't lost on you.
Before either of you could react, the bartender arrived with your drinks. Both of you visibly relaxed and brought them back to the table.
Fives could tell something was up when he saw you approach, but Echo just shook his head, knowing that if he knew, his brother would cause something he'd have to clean up.
Echo slid into the booth first, and you followed. Once you were seated, still maintaining some distance from him, he inched slightly closer to you, resting his thigh against yours as a way to comfort you.
You took a sip of your drink and looked away from the table, not sure what to say.
Fives looked between you and Echo before you felt him nudge your foot from under the table. When you met his eye, he subtly nudged his head toward the door, silently asking if you wanted to leave.
You shook your head with a genuine smile and he relaxed.
"So what'd you guys talk about?" Fives finally asked.
"Insulting you, mostly." You answered, not skipping a beat.
"Only mostly? I'm offended."
"Not everything is about you, believe it or not." You smirked.
Echo took another swig of his drink. "I keep telling him that."
"If I had known this night would end up with you two teaming up against me, I'd have never brought you." Fives says with fake indignance, crossing his arms.
"You couldn't have expected anything different," you pointed out. "The two people who know you best, I'd say we make a pretty good team, wouldn't you agree, Echo?"
You smiled at him and he shifted in his seat a bit. "Y-Yeah, we do!"
With the drinks flowing, the three of you were able to continue your conversation, opening up more and more as the night went on.
You learned more about Fives that you probably could have gone your whole life without learning, but you also slowly started to get to know Echo.
It was almost as if you were both working on chipping away each others' quiet, introverted demeanors, until eventually, Echo chipped a bit too much.
"Fives had mentioned you weren't seeing anyone, it's not really my business but is there a reason for that?"
Your stunned reaction made him start to regret his question and he quickly back-pedaled. "That was a dumb question, you don't have to answer that."
"No, no it's fine I just..." You looked at Fives for support then back at your drink, before looking to Echo again. "I guess to make a long story short, my last partner cheated on me."
"A lot." Fives added in, earning a glare from you.
"I caught him with someone else, he tried to tell me it was nothing, that I was crazy for being upset, that I should have seen it coming, and every excuse in the book. Even accused me of cheating with Fives. But then the truth came out about everyone else he had been with." Your finger circled idly around your glass as you stared at the remaining liquid.
Echo was silent. It took a minute of silence before you finally looked over at him. His expression was something between confusion and anger as he processed what you told him.
"I..." He looked at Fives, "Is this guy still living?"
"Unfortunately yes." Fives answered, "Though I did ask if I could do the honours and kill him myself, but she said no."
"He wasn't worth the jail time you would have gotten." You said, your tone indicating that this wasn't the first time you had said it.
"I'm sorry." Echo looked back at you. His hand reaching out, then hesitating, then finally resting it on your shoulder. "I may not know you well, but from what I've learned and seen, it truly is his loss. I couldn't even imagine anyone throwing away a relationship with you."
You could feel yourself blush at his words, his voice was so genuine, he meant what he was saying. The way he looked into your eyes; maybe Fives was right and you would end up with a crush.
Fives looked back and forth between the two of you before smirking to himself and drinking the last sip of his beverage.
"I'm gonna go get us some refills. Be back in a minute."
After a moment, Echo removed his hand from your shoulder, but you were very aware of how his fingertips brushed your arm when doing so.
"So, what about you?" You asked after a beat.
"What do you mean?"
"Why aren't you seeing anyone?"
He rubbed the back of his neck. "Ah, well... it's kind of against regulation."
"So I've heard, but most of the people I've talked to seem to ignore that rule."
"Yeah, I guess I've just always been a stickler for the rules. And, I mean," a faint blush crept across his cheeks, "That clone at the bar wasn't wrong. Women aren't exactly lining up to spend time with me when there are more fun people out there."
"I'm here, aren't I?" You blurted out.
Once you realized what you said, your eyes widened and your gaze quickly turned back to your empty glass.
Echo chuckled quietly beside you. "Yeah, I guess you are."
You looked around nervously, not knowing what to say. You glanced toward the bar before looking back at Echo. "Fives has been gone a while, I think I'll go check that he can handle the drinks."
"You sure? I could go if you want, I don't want anyone to bother you again."
You smiled, appreciative of his concern. "I'll be alright."
"If you say so," He shrugged, "I'll be here."
You gently rested your hand on his before you got up from the bench. As soon as he couldn't see your face, your eyes widened in panic wondering why you did that. Echo only stared after you, smiling.
When you approached the bar, you found Fives right away, leaning against the counter and talking to another clone as he waited on your drinks.
The other clone turned to you as soon as he noticed you approach.
Of course he was the same one as earlier.
"Back already?" He asked, "What, did he finally bore you?"
You rolled your eyes, and without looking at him, you replied flatly. "Quite the opposite."
Fives raised an eyebrow at your exhange, "Did I miss something?"
"Just glad I get to admire the scenery again."
You visibly cringed, but you did your best to ignore him as you focused on Fives. "I just came up to see if you needed help with the drinks."
Fives, still confused, nodded. "Yeah, sure. You gonna tell me what's going on?"
"Just some jagyc thinking he can take me home." You explained as if he wasn't right beside you. Your Mando'a wasn't great, but you'd heard quite a few insults in the time you've spent with Fives.
"What, you already get bored of Booksmart? Moved onto someone else? Or are you just some barrack bunny trying to get as many clones as possible?"
"Ease up, maybe you've had a bit too much to drink." Fives said with an uncharacteristically serious voice. "She's not interested, and the next time you insult her, you'll be doing so without teeth."
Before he could say anything else, the bartender arrived with your drinks. You took yours while Fives grabbed the other two, but you hesitated as you were walking away.
"Everything okay?" Fives was concerned when you suddenly stopped.
"Actually I–" You stared down at your feet.
"You want to go home? I'd understand, that clone was out of line."
"No it's not that... I just, need to talk to you."
He raised an eyebrow, "What's up?"
"There's not really an ideal time to say this, and as much as it pains me to admit... You were right. While you were up here, Echo and I started talking and... I don't know, he's sweet."
Fives' confused face turned into a grin as soon as you said he was right. "So what are you saying? You like him?"
"I don't know..." You could feel heat flooding your cheeks. "I won't make any guarantees, but I want to get to know him better."
"That could be arranged, leave it to me!"
Before you could say anything, Fives turned around and started walking back to your table.
"Wait, Fives, no!" You trailed behind him, terrified of what he meant. What was he going to do?
When you got back to the table and slid into the booth, you eyed Fives cautiously.
"So, Echo," Fives started and you felt a pit grow in your stomach. "Got any plans for after the mission?"
He shrugged, "Nothing out of the ordinary."
"I think you should change up your routine. Why don't you two go on a date?" Fives said, gesturing to both of you.
Your eyes widened and your knew your face had to be beet red by now. You couldn't even turn your head to look at Echo.
"Oh, really? Why us?" He asked, genuine curiosity in his voice.
"Well I mean, you seem to get along pretty well, you have stuff in common, I think you'd really hit it off without me sitting across from you."
Echo paused before answering again. He looked over at you and noticed you wouldn't meet his gaze. "What do you think?"
Slowly, you turned your head to face him. "I mean... if you want to, I wouldn't mind." Your voice was quiet as you desperately tried to hide your nerves.
He gave you a sweet smile, "Then I guess it's a date, as soon as we're back."
Fives smiled between the two of you then gave you a wink when you finally looked back at him.
"Where are you guys shipping off to, anyway?"
Fives shrugged, "Lola Sayu, some kind of fortress or something. Shouldn't be too long, it's just a retrieval mission."
"Do you want me to head to the landing dock tomorrow morning as usual?"
"Usual?" Echo repeated.
"Yeah she normally sends us off, maybe you've never noticed." He turned back to you, "I don't think you'll be able to this time, the general said we have to take an alternate means of transport."
Your shoulders sank slightly, "Oh, I see. That sounds interesting though. I'll just have to send you luck when we're done here."
Fives smiled, downing the last of his drink. "We should probably get going soon, early start and all."
You and Echo finished your respective drinks after him and nodded, slowly shuffling out of the booth, heading toward the exit.
There were more clones gathered outside now, and the cool nighttime air on your skin made you shiver.
Fives hailed a taxi as you and Echo hung back, not really sure what to say to each other now.
Once the cab arrived, Fives let you go in first, followed by Echo and then himself.
"Two stops," you told the droid before giving it your address, but you were cut off by Fives before you could tell it the second stop.
"Just the one stop."
You looked at him with an eyebrow raised in confusion.
"We won't see you tomorrow, I'm not accepting a half-assed goodbye from the cab."
You rolled your eyes, "Fine."
Once the taxi arrived at the landing dock outside of your apartment, the three of you left the vehicle, one after the other.
Fives scooped you up into a big hug as soon as you exited the cab, holding you tight against his chest. You wrapped your arms around his shoulders.
"Try not to miss us too much, got it?" He said into your shoulder. You smiled and tightened your side of the hug.
"Try not to get blown up." You joked.
You could feel him smile before he broke the hug, looking into your eyes. You rested a hand against his cheek gently.
"Comm me as soon as you can. And stay safe." You looked at Echo then back to Fives. "Keep each other safe."
"Of course," Fives replied before giving you a soft kiss on your forehead then stepping away so you could talk to Echo.
The two of you exchanged a slightly more awkward albeit friendly hug.
"You don't get blown up either." You told him with a half-smile.
"I'll try not to. We've got a date when I get back." He reminded you.
"It was nice meeting you. I'm looking forward to getting to know you better."
He smiled as his cheeks and ears flushed slightly pink. "Likewise."
You took a step toward him before kissing his cheek. "Stay safe."
"Of-of course." His hand rested against his cheek where you kissed him. "I'll let you know when I get back."
You smiled at him. Fives approached the two of you again.
"We should get back to the barracks, Rex won't be happy if we're too late."
"I don't want to keep you. Just, be careful. I'll see you both when you get back!"
You watched as they hailed another taxi and boarded. Once the transport was out of sight, you walked into your apartment building, already looking forward to the day they returned.
– – –
One night, a couple of weeks following your night at 79s, you were woken up to the sound of a fist slamming on your door. You jolted upright, hesitating if you should answer it or not.
You sat in your bed, trying to stop yourself from trembling as you waited with bated breath if whoever was at your door would knock again.
They did, only softer this time.
Slowly, you crept out of your bedroom, trying to make as little sound as possible before you finally made it to the front door. You pressed your ear against it, hoping to hear who was on the other side, but they didn't make a sound between knocks.
"Wh-who's there?" You asked, shakily.
"Please open the door, it's Fives." You visibly relaxed before unlocking and opening the door for your friend.
Before you could say anything, he wrapped his arms around you, pulling you into his chest, just as he did the night before he left.
"I'm sorry." He said, barely a whisper.
You backed away from his embrace and you moved to close and lock your front door, turning the hall light on once it was closed.
"I didn't know you were back, you should have commed me!" You told him, assuming his apology was for his extended time away.
"We just got back, I sent you a message but I guess you were asleep. I..." He looked down and you could see his jaw clench as he balled his hands into fists. "I couldn't..."
He trailed off and your smile fell. "Is everything okay?"
He looked away, not meeting your gaze, until you placed your hand on his cheek, forcing him to look at you.
"Fives, what's wrong?"
"It's... it's Echo." His voice broke slightly and you could feel the pain in your chest caused by his sadness. "I tried to stop him but he–"
You could see his eyes start to water before he could get the words out, and he melted into your palm. You pulled him into another embrace, gently stroking his hair.
"Why don't you sit down and tell me what happened?" You suggested. It was strange to see Fives so upset, in all the time you've been friends, you couldn't think of a time where he's been angry in front of you, let alone crying. You took his hand and led him to the couch.
Once he was seated, he brought his hand to his face, trying to sneakily wipe away tears as if he didn't want you to see them.
"Echo's dead." He said after a long pause. "Droids blew up our ship, Echo tried to defend it."
"I see." You couldn't think of what to say.
Words of comfort usually came so naturally to you, but you were speechless. It's true you didn't know Echo very well, even after your night out, but the news made your heart ache. You had been looking forward to seeing him again, to going on your date, and all of that had been taken away, but more importantly, Fives just lost one of his brothers.
You looked over at Fives who was already looking at you. He didn't know how you'd take the news and he was worried.
"I'm sorry, Fives. I didn't know him well, but he didn't deserve that."
"Him and I were the last of our original squad and now I'm alone, I couldnt even retrieve his helmet." He sighed, "And you were supposed to go out with him after, I told you I'd keep him safe."
"Hey, don't worry about me. I'm sad that he's gone, believe me, but I just want to make sure you're okay."
"I've lost brothers before, it's what we were created for, but... It's not right. Echo deserved to live."
"You all do. Just because you were created for war doesn't mean you have to just accept your fate or anyone else's." You shook your head. "It's late, and I don't want you to be alone right now. Do you want to stay over?"
"Yeah, that would be nice. Thank you."
"Of course." You leaned over on the sofa, kissing his temple before wrapping your arms around him. "We can talk more about it in the morning, okay?"
"Sorry for waking you up."
"I'm glad you did."
You stood up from the couch to grabs Fives a pillow and some blankets you had stored nearby for this exact reason.
"If you need anything, help yourself. Get some sleep, okay?"
"I'll do my best."
You walked back to your room and laid back down in your bed. Suddenly the full wave of everything he told you hit you and you could feel your eyes water.
You didn't feel it was right for you to cry over someone you barely knew, it felt selfish to mourn someone you wanted to get to know better. You couldn't shake the thought of what could have been.
Your chest ached with sadness and longing, wishing he could have made it through. Fives was right, Echo deserved to live.
While you were alone you allowed yourself to cry for him, but you knew you had to be strong for Fives. He wouldn't forgive himself if he saw you cry, and he didn't need that guilt. You could get through this. You just wished you could see him again.
As you lay, staring at the ceiling, you heard a gentle knock on your bedroom door. You hastily wiped any tears from your face and turned on the lamp beside your bed.
"Come in." You called out, before the door opened.
Fives looked as though he wanted to say something, but couldn't voice it. He shied away in embarrassment before you offered him a gentle smile.
"If you want to stay in here, that's okay."
"Thanks..." he muttered before walking around to the other side of your bed. "I'm sorry I just.."
"You don't want to be alone, I understand. Come here." You invited him toward you with open arms, and he moved closer to you, laying his head on your chest. You gently stroked his hair.
"I'm sorry."
"There's nothing you need to apologize for."
"I shouldn't have asked you to come out with us that night."
"I'm glad I did. It's true that I didn't get to know him well, but I'm glad that I met him. And I feel more equipped to help you now because I did."
"You're allowed to be upset too, you know. You don't have to comfort me. Echo wouldn't shut up about your date, it was actually getting pretty annoying, I'm just sorry he couldn't be here for it."
"Thank you for telling me that." In a weird way it did make you feel better, and it helped that Fives could still make fun of his brother despite the circumstances. "I'll be okay, though. And I'll be here for you whenever you need me."
Fives smiled slightly and closed his eyes, allowing himself to finally find sleep, and you followed shortly after.

Captain Rex x F!Jedi!Reader Pt.2 Your first kiss with Rex, when the two of you were young and hopeful, and your last one, where he wished for nothing more than to protect you, to be by your side until your very last breath. Word Count: 5389 Warnings: Minor swearing (?), sad Rex, creepy man alert. A/N: I'm not proud of or satisfied with the first half, but I needed to pour my Rex love out into words <3
The first time you and Rex shared a kiss, it was.. Sudden. It was thrilling. It was indescribable, really.
It had blood rushing to your cheeks in spurs, heat spreading throughout your body as his fingers gripped bruises onto your hips, his lips hot and soft against your own, trapping you between his broad shoulders and an old, sticky counter.
The two of you had been sent on a mission, a Jedi and a Clone Captain. Hand in hand, the two of you played a newly married couple as you had been tasked by the Jedi Council. At first, you had no objections, but when you realised it meant the two of you would be fully and wholly alone, your hands began to tremble, your heart began to rattle and all your resolve seemed to crumble.
Sure, you were solid in your beliefs, and that included ignoring your ever-growing crush on the blonde, tan-skinned, honey eyed Captain of the 501st.
But with more convincing, General Skywalker and Kenobi had managed to get you to agree, and soon the two of you were shipped off to a supposedly Neutral planet, where your bounty hunter had taken cover from the GAR's watchful eyes.
The air on this planet was nothing short of stuffy, particles clinging to your lungs like thick lumps of goo. The streets were nothing but grime, sweat and dirt as your eyes scanned the place. There were potholes in the roads, small crowds of traders and sellers and horse-riders, as well as the occasional trios of smokers that hung outside bars. The streetlights were the only source of light, the planet's moons having been hidden away behind a thick, lingering swarm of clouds.
Rex could feel your shoulders stiffening, and on instinct he had pulled you closer. According to the coordinates provided by General Kenobi, the bounty hunters' hideout was just a mere few-minute walk away from your current position, and so, the two of you made your way there.
Numerous stall owners had attempted to steal your attention away, offering glamorous jewels and accessories and flashy trinkets, but were quickly shut up and dismissed by one hard glare from Rex, his fingers finding solace on your shoulder, keeping you protectively close.
He himself wasn't all too willing to embark onto this mission, but an order was an order, no matter how hard General Skywalker attempted to mask it as a request, as a choice.
And now, having you this close, Rex was almost forced to question all the rules and regulations that the longnecks and the Council and the Republic had imposed, had implanted into the clones, onto himself. With your scent invading his senses, with your warmth being shared between the two of you, Rex wasn't so sure if he was willing to stay single for the rest of his life.
Not when your nimble fingers latched themselves around his biceps like soft snares, caressing and squeezing the flesh, feeling the sturdy muscle beneath. He could feel goose bumps rise across his arms and shoulders, as your touch set off fiery sparks on his skin, as your gaze melted away his cold exterior.
As he glanced down at you, his chest tightened, seeing the way the orange lights warmed up your face, created a warm glow, made you look prettier, enhanced your features. A hint of a shadow danced across your cheekbones from under your lashes, microscopic freckles scattered across like stars in the night sky. Maybe, just maybe, one day the two of you would live in a Republic where he could, where he would, confess his adoration for you.
But he saw no such thing happening anytime soon.
His thoughts were interrupted as a loud, irritating whistle caught his attention, and you came to a slow halt.
"Whatcha got there, lad? You sellin'?" A scratchy voice had asked, and Rex's eyes narrowed as he noticed a Weequay pirate had made his way over to them, his eyes scanning you up and down, hunger swirling in his thin, cat-like irises. A smirk tugged at his awfully chapped lips, and his right hand was perched on his hip, settling just above his blaster.
A weak gasp left your lips as Rex half-shielded your body from view, and if you hadn't been pushed behind him, maybe your heart would have pumped faster at the sight of his frown.
"Can't you see she's taken, lad?" Rex asked, his voice loud and sturdy as he glared at the man. You didn't have your lightsabers on you, nor could you fight off the pirate whilst undercover.
"Woah woah, calm down my friend, I was merely asking." The pirate stated, a frown appearing on his face as he looked between your seemingly spooked figure and Rex's ready-to-fight stance.
Looking up at Rex, you tugged on his hand, silently pleading to keep moving. Your lightsaber was safely stored away in Rex's backpack, and it meant you couldn't have acted as swiftly as you would of if it had instead been attached to your hip.
With a groan, Rex shoo his head, puffing his chest out like a proud lion. "She is not for sale, she's with me, she's my wife, and you, you better keep your grubby paws and eyes off her." Rex growled out, his chest rumbling with a newfound dominance.
"Or else-"
"Rex.." You whispered, one handlightly tugging his shoulder, "It's okay. Let's keep going." You insisted, snaking your hand along the side of his neck to cup his jaw. His gaze softened at the sight of you, and with a small nod of his head, the two of you moved away, Rex bumping into the pirate's shoulder with more than enough force to knock him to the ground.
The two of you walked in a semi-comfortable silence, not exchanging any words, and you preferred that. If you had to speak now, you were worried you'd stumble over your words and start blushing like a teenager. He was so effortlessly kind, so thoughtful, so sweet.
What would you do without your favourite Captain?
Probably sink into the earth or something.
Looking up, a small smile appeared on your lips; the clouds were scattering away under the wind currents, and the twin moons were beginning to peak out from under their cover. A cool, blue light engulfed the two of you, mixing with the war orange glow from the street stands, and your breath was caught in your throat as you looked up to Rex.
His honey eyes reflected the purple mix, darkening under it as he stared ahead, occasionally glancing at his holopad. There was a familiar crease settled between his brows, crows feet crinkling at the outer corners of his eyes as his expression screamed 'Focused!', his gloved hand warm against the bare skin on your bicep.
His stubble, which he usually kept cleanly shaven, was now beginning to grow back, giving him a more mature, yet tired look. Your fingers itched to just caress his face, to feel those short, spiky hairs against your palm, to make him feel at ease under your touch.
He glanced to the side, his eyes widening as the two of you made instant eye contact, but a soft smirk appeared when he noticed you hurriedly looking away, anywhere but him.
He definitely liked to see you flustered.
After a short while, the two of you came to a stop in front of a small staircase, a few lingering figures smoking, and tall, dark brown doors that led to the inside of the club.
The figures scoffed at the sight of you, muttering something about being 'rich' or too 'formal', but you paid them no mind as Rex placed his palm on the small of your back, glancing sideways as he ushered you forward.
As the doors opened, your senses were flooded with the smell and feel of thick smoke, choking you from the inside-out more so than the air outside. Loud music pumped through hidden speakers, and a swarm of bodies was tangled up on the dance floor, moving in rhythmic beats, flashing lights and singing making the room feel stuffy, and much smaller than it really was.
There was sweat on the walls, different coloured lights basking the otherwise dark space in all shades of the rainbow.
Quickly, you took a hold of Rex's bicep, stuttering in your steps as you looked to him for guidance, and the male felt a surge of pride sprouting in his chest, knowing that you trusted him enough to seek protection from him.
Without a second thought, he lead you to the bar, ordering the two of you drinks strong enough to survive the clamminess of the place.
Then, the two of you found seats at a faraway booth, sitting close enough for your arms to touch. You took an awkward sip of your drink, a horrible bitterness hammering your tongue, a shiver going down your spine as the liquid burned the back of your throat.
"What was this called again, Rex? Beer?" You semi-shouted over the loud music, your lips just inches away from touching his ear.
Without a thought, Rex turned his face to you, towering lightly over you as you leaned against his shoulder. Your eyes widened, a soft gasp parting your lips. His own eyes looked over yours, a smirk on his lips.
"Yeah, it's called beer, mesh'la. Why? D'you not like it?" He asked, nudging his chin to point at the glass. He watched as you chewed on your bottom lip, suppressing the grimace that fought to make its way onto your face.
He never really saw you be so expressive around anyone else, not even around General Skywalker and General Kenobi. Was he an exception? He had waited to spend one-on-one time with you for so long, always being stuck by Skywalker's side.
A smirk tugged at his lips, and Rex couldn't stop himself from putting an arm around your shoulders, pulling you impossibly closer. The gasp that escaped your lips was luckily covered by the loud booming of the music, and the flush on your face was somewhat masked by the bouncing lights, or so you hoped.
Rex's breath fanned over the top of your head, his hand tracing circles into your skin, though his eyes remained observant, scanning the room, as he took another sip of his own drink.
You looked back to your own drink, a scowl forming on your face as you cringed at the thought of having to finish it. But, a plan formed in your mind. The two of you were supposed to be playing a couple in love, right?
Why not.. spice things up a little?
Without a second thought, you turned to Rex.
"If you drink that whole glass in ten seconds, the rest of the drinks will be on me tonight." Your voice was loud, your lungs straining to produce sound over the music, but it seemed to work as Rex thought about your offer, taking a moment to reply.
"And I get to choose?" He asked, his breath fanning over the shell of your ear.
With an eager nod, you watched Rex sigh defeatedly, reaching over for your glass.
"But you better be fair, or else." He winked at you, and neared the glass to his lips. His brothers often engaged in games like this, making bets or starting competitions, their favourite being 'How to get Fives drunk the fastest' or 'How to make Fives strip tease for the civvies'.
He himself never got drunk, only somewhat tipsy, so it would definitely be a new experience for him.
Drinking with you by his side, without the peering eyes of his brothers or the Republic. Here, it was just him and you.
"On the count of one," You begun, a grin growing on your lips as Rex readied himself, "Three.." His posture straightened up, his gaze daring you, "Two.." His grip on the glass tightened, and you felt yourself swallowing a growing lump, looking up at Rex through a thick curtain of lashes, lips parted, "One!"
With that, you began counting down, swallowing thickly as you watched Rex tilt the glass, his Adam's apple bobbing up and down with every gulp he took. You almost considered speeding up your counting, as in five seconds he was done with half of the glass.
A laugh escaped you as some of the beer began to spill down his chin, rolling in thick beads down his neck. At that point, he won. Your attention was completely focused on his neck, eyes glazing over him eagerly, and you wondered what it would be like to trace the column of his neck, to lick the alcohol off of his neck, would he like that? What would he sound like?
"Done!" Rex's exclamation startled you, the bang of the glass against the table effectively making you jump out of your skin.
A loud laugh echoed, and as you looked up, Rex was just wiping his lips.
"Now, you owe me a drink," He said, taking a hold of your chin as he cheekily smiled, "Or a couple." He shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly, and rested back against the booth seat.
With a roll of your eyes, you got up from your seat and made your way towards the bar.
"Five shots of Spotchka for me mesh'la!" He shouted after you, and a laugh escaped your lips. As you ordered the drinks, a giddy smile tugged at your lips. Who would have thought that the two of you could share such a normal, such an ordinary day together? Especially at a bar like this of all places? Not even in your wildest dreams would you have imagined Rex and you playing a couple, clinging onto each other like koalas, or sharing drinks like this.
Never would you have imagined you would get the chance to be close to Rex like this, maybe if one of you were carrying the other off a battlefield, but that's it really.
You were one lucky-
"You alone miss?" Someone spoke lowly into your ear, a foreign hand caressing the small of your back.
"What the-" You turned around, shaking away from their touch. "Who are you?" You asked, one eyebrow quirked as you looked the man up and down. He was definitely a local, dressed in dark brown trousers and khaki coloured shirt, his face looked worn, wrinkles scattered all over, his beard outgrowing a stubble and his breath reeked of alcohol and cigarrettes.
His eyes though, they were sullen and fighting against his will to stay awake and upright, they showed an exhausted man, a vexed man, a dangerous man. You knew that without your lightsaber you'd be completely and utterly screwed, but maybe you could talk your way out of this?
"I've been looking for some.. fresh meat," He paused, licking his lips as he looked you up and down, expectantly. His breath stank, and you had to fight really hard not to let your disgust show. "You looked a bit lonely, y'know.." He continued, and you felt a shiver run up your spine as he reached a hand to caress your shoulder.
Thinking back to how Rex was probably waiting for you, you felt a sense of comfort; he'd come if you took too long.
"Well actually I-I'm with someone-" You tried to reason, but the man shut you up with a sharp glare and a sloppy shake of his head.
"No no, sweetheart, I think you misunderstood me," He growled out, voice rumbling in your ears, "You're coming with me."
His rough hand felt like sand paper to your skin, unlike Rex's gentle, careful fingers that worked their way to yours, held you with so much care.
His shirt slouched over his bony form, and you could see sweat staining the material.
"Sir, I would advise you to let go of me or-"
"Or what? What are you gonna do, sweetheart? Scream? Kick?" He taunted, trapping your body between his own and the bar. Why was no one batting an eye at this? Was everyone so horribly drunk? Where was Rex?
You shook your head, pushing at his chest.
"Just let go of me you creep." You hissed, freeing yourself from his grasps. A scowl overtook his features, a red light shining directly onto his face. What the hell? Why was he so stubborn on taking you away?
Just as his lips parted, his small frame was roughly shoved to the side, and you paused in your tracks as something soft, something warm crashed against your lips.
Large hands held your hips in place as his lips melted against yours, pushing against you, body flush against your own. Your eyes snapped open, but closed once more when you realised who it was.
Your arms snaked around his neck, nails grazing against his scalp as you reciprocated this welcomed feeling. Your breaths mingled together, his tongue poking out to lick at your bottom lip, wordlessly asking for permission.
Granting it, your tongues swirled together, and he hummed in approval as his hips pushed you further into the counter, the wood digging painfully into the skin and bones. His body towered over yours as the two of you kissed, completely lost in each other's warm embrace, completely forgetting about the creep that had now moved away, shaking his head and muttering disgruntled 'Okay I get it's'.
As Rex slowly pulled away, you found yourself chasing his lips, almost whining at the loss of warmth. But a small smile tugged at your lips as you looked into his eyes, noticing how glazed over his irises were, how softly he looked at you, as if you were his precious treasure, his whole world, his universe.
"You don't know how long I've wanted to do that for, mesh'la." He mumbled as he leaned his forehead against yours, his eyes fluttered close with a content smile on his face.
A soft huff escaped through your nose, and you softly nodded, placing a chaste kiss to his lips.
"Me too, Captain, me too."
The last time you and Rex kissed, it was passionate, it was hopeful, it was precious.
There was a spare hour before you and your squadron were to depart for another search-and-rescue mission, off to a rather politically-influential planet, busy with preparing your ships, guns, provisions, belongings and, most of all, your goodbyes. You were confident that the mission would be a successful one, after all, how hard was it to find a missing princess?
However, the creases etched onto Rex's features had your chest tightening, had you gnawing on the inside of your cheek, had you fiddling with your fingers. That familiar scrunch of his eyebrows, whenever he was anxious, was present, crow's feet dancing at the outer corners of his eyes.
He kept his hands grasped together behind his back as he paced the hallway outside your room in circles, muttering and mumbling under his nose with hushed breaths.
The apples of his cheeks that were normally so full and chubby, were now sullen and drained of their usual roundness, the familiar bright glint in his starry eyes you loved so much, suddenly replaced by a dark, dusky chill.
As the door to your room slid open, Rex had lifted his head, golden puppy eyes widened, relief flooding his features. His pacing had come to a slow stop as he peered at you, breathless.
A sigh escaped your lips, the muscles in your throat tensing, your shoulders stiffening.
"Rex..? What's-" He was quick to interrupt your words, grasping your shoulders in a gentle hold as he pushed you back inside your quarters, the doors shutting behind him with a gentle whizz and thud.
"Mesh'la.. You can't go." As the words left his lips, your heart squeezed, like a wet rug being drained of water. It twisted and pulled, tugging at the heartstrings until they were ready to burst. Where was this coming from, why was he so worried? It was only going to be a simple mission. The corners of your lips tugged downwards in a frown, suddenly gaining on a new weight to them that hadn't been there before.
Your hands came up to hold his face, smoothing out the lines that had scattered across.
"Rex, what's gotten into you? What's wrong?" You asked, your voice merely a hushed whisper as you neared your face to his. His Adam's apple bobbed up and down as he swallowed harshly, nervously. His eyes searched yours, the first hint of tears surfacing.
His hold against you was tight, yet so full of love and care. One of his hands had slid up to cradle the side of your face, the pad of his thumb gently caressing the soft skin underneath, his warmth radiating onto you like a heavy blanket. His scent, the scent of fresh aftershave and gunpowder, was invading your senses, binding you completely useless under the spell of your lover.
With a shaky exhale, his eyes fluttered closed, crows feet tugging at the corners before he opened them back up, his feelings hidden behind an array of lusciously thick lashes and a steel-hard facade.
"That thing.. What Fives said b-before he- before he died," He paused, his gaze dropping down to the floor, his shoulders stuttering under the shakiness of his breaths, "About the chips. What if it's true?"
At that, your lips merged into a fine line, your hold on his face losening just the slightest.
"Rex, look at me," You spoke, lifting his chin with the tips of your fingers, soft stubble brushing against the pads, "Do you truly believe in what he said?" You questioned, searching his eyes for something, for a clue. If this worried him so much, then why did he keep it hidden from you until now? Did he hear something he shouldn't have? Did he see something that confirmed what Fives had said?
"I didn't see or hear anything, if that's what you're thinking, mesh'la," His quiet voice just barely reached your ears, the gravelly hum grazing against the shells of your ears, like waves crashing against a sandy shore, and you wouldn't have heard his hushed whisper if you weren't leaning in so close, "But General Skywalker.. he- he hasn't been the same since Ahsoka left the order, he's been more unnerved, more reckless, more irrational and he's putting my squadron, my men, my brothers in danger, kriff, even you!" He exclaimed, squeezing his eyes tightly shut. His stomach twisted and turned, bile readily rising, burning, in his throat as he realised what he had just said.
If this was anyone but you, he was sure to be court martialed, accused of treason or desserting the army, or conspiring, even. But this wasn't just anyone, this wasn't General Kenobi or Master Windu; this was you. His General, his friend, his comfort, his love.
Surely, you'd understand where he was coming from.
You had allowed him a short respite, pulling him into your embrace as the tears had begun to spill over. One hand caressing his hair, the other rubbed comforting circles into the tense muscles on his back. He wasn't wearing his armour, for some weird enough reason, though you could inquire about that later.
For now, Rex's wellbeing was your priority.
Your lips gently brushed against his ear as you spoke, your voice smooth and soft, like velvet, barely rising above a whisper. "Rex, we both know, forming attachments, relationships, is strictly forbidden.. But, has that ever stopped anyone? It certainly hasn't stopped me or you, so it definitely hasn't stopped General Skywalker," You paused, hiding your face in the crook of his neck, inhaling his sickeningly sweet scent, "Ahsoka was like a daughter to him, Rex, a little sister to you. He's going through the same pain as you, but multiply that by two." You whispered, feeling Rex's silent tears ease into light, stuttering breaths, his gloved hands grasping tightly onto your robes.
The distant hum of active machinery and faraway footsteps filled the silence between the two of you, bouncing off the iron-hard walls, drowning out the sound of your breathing, masking the sound of Rex's gentle, feather-light tears and sobs.
He had been through far too much in his short life, he had seen too much, heard, experienced more than enough. The numerous, countless deaths of his brothers, each dying on a cursed battlefield, sacrificing their lives dying for a cause that did little to care for them. The disappearance of Echo, the death of Hardcase, the death of Fives. All men who had been by his side for so, so many years.
And then, General Tano leaving the Jedi order.
That was the straw that broke the camel's back.
He could no longer force and tie down that sense of fear, that sense of insecurity which twisted at his heartstrings, constricting painfully each time a new terror occurred. It squeezed at his lungs, suffocating him, dragging him down like a boulder tied to one of the many seas found on Kamino.
Kamino.
His.. home?
The longnecks never did care for the Clones, all they were to them was a moneygrab. An expensive one, at that. Who knew when the Republic would run out of money to produce more clones? Who knew when they would get tired of the many fruitless battles they so bravely fought? Who knew?
Those questions plagued Rex's mind like a stalkish nightmare, always there, hiding away in the deepest corners of his mind, creeping in every time he'd let his eyelids flutter closed.
But then, there was a light.
A golden, brightly burning flame, offered by an extended hand.
It came in the form of your touch.
Anytime you'd touch his shoulder, graze the soft skin of your palm along his jaw, place feather-light kisses against his nape, Rex could feel the tightness-
No.
He could feel the fear that clawedat his chest slowly dissipate away. Inch by inch, the feeling of your skin against his, the sound of your voice dripping like honey, the warmth that radiated off of you like the sun, it washed the sticky, oozing black substance away in waves, it purged the darkness that tried to taint his heart and mind, his resolve and his beliefs.
His breathing had slowly come to a still, the trembling that had travelled throughout his body had eventually ceased, allowing the two of you to sit in a comfortable, peaceful silence.
His fingers caressed the soft material of your shirt, tracing each slight bump of bone within the curve of your spine, his heart swelling with adoration at every soft exhale and chuckle that escaped your chest at his ministrations.
With you hidden away in his arms, away from harm's way, Rex began to feel at peace again.
But that's just what you did; you put anyone and everyone at ease. You just had that effect.
He didn't know if it was something to do with your force-sensitivity, or if it was just a personality trait. He wasn't about to complain though.
The tip of his nose gently nudged against the top of your head, slowly, taking note of the change in the scent. The corners of his lips nudged slightly upwards, crows feet tugging at the corners of his tired eyes.
"New shampoo?" He asked, his voice low and raspyed as he continued inhaling your scent.
Underneath him, he felt vibrations, your shoulders shaking as you snickered in his arms, the air escaping your lungs in short, joyful tufts.
"Yeah, I was getting fed up of the one provided by the Republic. It's peach scented, d'you like it?" You had asked, tilting your head upwards to catch a glimpse of his honey-glazed eyes. As he looked at you, he couldn't help the rapid rattling of his heart, warmth flooding his chest at the sight of you.
Your face tilted upwards, hands grasping his biceps, lone tufts of hair framing your face, the smug smile on your face as you looked up at him with those beautiful, glassy irises. It was like you were his own personal sunshine, small enough for him to cradle you within his clutches, tuck you away into his pocket, keep you by his side during combat.
Warm enough to chip away at the foul insecurities and fears that clogged his mind during his every waking moment.
His gaze flickered to your lips, and Rex sucked in a sharp breath as he noticed you nibbling lightly on your bottom lip, a shadow cast onto your cheekbones through a row of long, luscious lashes.
Neither of you said a word as Rex's hand cradled the side of your face, closing the short gap between the two of you. You closed your eyes, a joyful huff escaping your chest as his lips collided with yours in a passionate, slow exchange.
His fingers caressed your skin with such care, with such gentleness, with such love, it made your heart beat faster and your blood burn hot with adoration. They swept down from the top of your cheekbone, along the shell of your ear, and finally found their place on your jawbone, his pinky settling for caressing small, short strokes along your jaw and the top of your neck. His other hand came up to do the same, pulling you closer than was thought to be humanly possible.
His breath fanned over your face, and his scent flooded your nostrils, soft vanilla mixed with his natural musky scent.
It invaded your senses, engulfing you like a chilly summer afternoon on one of your rare days off, like the warm summer rain that soaked your clothes, tugged at the tips of your hair, like the warm rays of sun that peaked through the windows as you slept, summoning you to wake up, to feel alive, to feel loved.
A small smile tugged at the corners of your lips, your tongue brushing against Rex's bottom lip. You felt his shoulders shake under the heaviness of your palms, and it was soon followed by a soft chuckle as his hands tilted your head, angling it to provide him better access to your body, your lips, your soul.
Your lips melting together, your heart swells with admiration and love for your soldier, and for a moment a fleeting thought wedges itself inside your mind; you and Rex. You and Rex and small children, a tall farmhouse sat behind your figures as the children splash around in a shallow pond, their joyful screams and shouts bringing a smile to your face as you and Rex relax further back, his arm cradling you close to his body.
But that thought is gone as fast as it came, a ghost of your past wishes and longings. But maybe, just maybe once the war ended, the two of you would be able to achieve such a future. Afterall, where there is love, there is hope, and where there is hope, there is life, right?
The two of you are interrupted as your intercom goes off, signaling for your attention. The incessant beeping is loud and repetitive, enough to cause a tension headache in you.
Slowly, you began to pull away, your eyes fluttering open once more, your lips stinging as the cold air of your room replaced the warm plush of Rex's lips. You swallowed hard, releasing a short breath as you looked up into his golden eyes again, a pained expression settled in them again.
"Rex.. It's time for me to go," You whispered, bringing your hand up to caress his face as the man pulled you close, his fingers fiddling with the material of your shirt. He burried his nose in the crook of your neck, inhaling your scent one last time, "I will contact you as soon as we land, or if anything happens, okay?" You asked, nudging his forehead with yours.
As he lifted his head, Rex felt that same fear overcome him again, tearing away at his heart, choking him up in an iron-tight hold.
"You better update me on everything, and I mean everything, do you understand?" He asked, his gaze hardening and his eyebrows furrowing as he maintained steady eye contact, conveying his worry for you.
With a small nod of your head, you rose from the bed, whispering a soft 'I love you' before you gave him one last kiss, your touch leaving burning trails on his skin as the doors quietly slid shut behind your retreating figure, looking back at Rex one last time, committing the sight of him to your memory, your voice reaching his ears as you answered your intercom.
His gaze remained on the doors, and Rex heaved a long, deep sigh.
"Get a hold of yourself, Rex, she's gonna be back."
But were you?

Prompts: "Keep doing that and you'll end up on the naughty list." & "All I want for Christmas is you."
It was a crisp and windy night, though you wouldn't feel the effects of the cold right away. Your eagerness for the evening's activities would fill you with enough warmth for a short while, as would the enjoyable company of your best friend, Fives.
You were surrounded by many friends and clones, a group of you who tried as often as possible to celebrate the year's holidays together. This year, not everyone would be on planet when Christmas Day came around, but you'd all managed to find a night earlier in the month to come together and exchange gifts, share good food, and, as you were about to do now, walk around the neighborhoods to admire the lights.
And while you loved all your friends dearly, it was Fives who you'd been most eager to see. You felt closest to him the most. You seemed to understand each other so well, falling into step right where you'd last left off, as if he hadn't been gone for the past several months. As if there hadn't been whispers that his unit had fallen under attack and may not be coming home this time, leaving you numb with worry. As if you hadn't realized you were in love with him when you heard he would come back after all, safe and sound.
"What the hell is that?" he laughed beside you as you passed by a house that seemed to be quite normal.
"What's what?" You gazed around but could only see the standard set up of dazzling lights and festive lawn ornaments.
Fives wrapped an arm around your shoulders and pointed to two reindeer decorations... that were stacked rather suggestively on top of one another. "That."
You could only momentarily process how close he was, how warm you felt being held like that, before you fell into sync with his laughter. It was a pretty funny thing to come across, especially as Fives began to muse whether the owners of the house set it up that way on purpose or if they were pranked. Either scenario was humorous. He then insisted on taking a photo of you with the indecent display in the background.
Though your laughter over the reindeer had warmed you up, the moment you two spent over it caused you to fall behind the rest of the group. You could no longer see them on the street, nor could you hear their lively sounds of chatter.
"They must have turned that corner up there," Fives said as you two started walking again. He was no longer holding you but was walking alongside you a little closer than before. Or, at least that's what it felt like. Maybe you were just imagining it.
There was a little bit of silence as you passed by the next brightly lit house and admired it. But Fives wasn't one to keep quiet for too long.
"So, what do you want for Christmas?" he asked.
You forced your gaze away from the pretty lights to look at him, noting a flush in his cheeks but deciding it must be the wind.
"What do you mean?"
He chuckled a little. "What do you mean? It's a simple question. What's on your wishlist this year?"
"I just thought... never mind," you shrugged, having thought he wanted to know what to get you, which of course was silly since your group was doing a white elephant exchange this year. "Um, I don't know. There really isn't anything I want, to be honest."
Fives knocked his shoulder into yours, accompanied by a dramatic gasp. "You don't want aaaa-nything? Impossible."
You just smiled and shook your head. "Yeah, not really."
"So you're good? You're perfectly content? Everything in your life is amazing and you're in need of nothing more?"
Of course the answer to his questions was a lot more complicated than the simple "Yep" you responded with. You were content in this moment, walking alongside your best friend, enjoying the festivities of the season in his company. But before this moment, you hadn't really been happy. You'd been worried sick by his absence, impatient to see him again, doubting that he'd be as thrilled to see you. You'd been nothing short of lovesick and you had no idea how to admit such a thing to him now.
"I don't buy it," he said, bumping playfully against you again. "There has to be something."
You finally came up to the corner you assumed your friends had turned down. You took it without thought, knowing it would loop back around to your friend's house. A house that was starting to sound really appealing given that a chill was settling back in.
"Clothes?" Fives asked.
"Huh?"
"Like a nice scarf or a dress or something?" Oh, you realized he was still trying to figure out your Christmas wish list. "Or fuzzy socks?"
"I have plenty of fuzzy socks," you said. And with that thought, you realized your toes were getting rather cold, despite being wrapped in thick socks and boots. That then led to you recognize just how cold you were all over: your nose, your hands, your knees....
"Okay, then how about jewelry? Girls always like jewelry, right?"
You rolled your eyes as you dug your hands deeper into your pockets, searching for warmth. "I don't really need any more jewelry."
You weren't paying much attention to the lights anymore, instead picking up the pace so you could get back to the warmth of your friend's house sooner. Fives didn't seem to care about the lights, either. He was still trying to figure out your supposed Christmas wishlist.
"What about a box of chocolates?"
"I buy enough chocolate as it is."
"A candle?"
"Pretty sure half of the white elephant gifts in there are candles."
"Hm... You like games right?"
"I have enough games."
"Nonsense, you can never have too many games."
"Well, when your friends aren't around to play them with you, you can."
Fives was silent. You looked over to find he was watching you with a sort of sadness in his eyes. No, not sadness... guilt.
"I'm sorry," he said after a beat. "I wish I was around more..."
"No, no," you were quick to jump in, not wanting him to feel that way at all. "It's fine. It is what it is. We all know that."
Fives nodded but didn't seem convinced. He looked away, stared straight ahead, as you passed by the last house and arrived at your friend's. The change of course up to the porch seemed to snap him out of his mindlessness and bring him back into better spirits.
"A puppy!" he declared as you approached the door. Both of you were stomping your shoes against the wood of the porch to dislodge any dirt you'd picked up along the way. "No one in the entire galaxy could say no to a puppy."
You huffed out a laugh of defeat. "Okay, sure, I'll take a puppy for Christmas."
He laughed with you as you opened the front door. You expected a wall of warmth to hit you, accompanied by smells of food and chatter of friends. Instead you were met with dim lights, silence, and a cold that almost rivaled the frigid air you'd just walked in from.
"What the..." Fives joined your confusion in the entry hall, and then snapped his fingers as he realized something. "Kix said he knew someone in this neighborhood. They all must have gone there. We beat them back."
You vaguely recalled passing by a house with loud voices from inside, surely including voices from your friends, but you were too busy trying to warm your hands now to dwell on it further. Fives placed a gentle hand on your back as he scooted past you and down the hall toward the thermostat. He messed with it a bit as you shuffled into the little den off the entry. You were reluctant to remove your coat and scarf when it was still so cold.
"Hm," Fives frowned, joining you a few moments later. He flicked on a lamp on the table beside you. "Heat's not coming on. Something's broken."
"Can you fix it?" You tried not to let your teeth chatter.
"Yeah..." he trailed off and you followed his gaze to the fireplace on the opposite end of the room. His lips quirked, a sign he was going to get up to something. "Or... we could have ourselves a cozy little fire instead!"
He shuffled around the sofa and started investigating the decorations on top of the mantle.
"What?" you asked as you stepped around the sofa as well.
"Ah ha!" He opened up what had looked to be merely a decoration of an old fashioned truck, but apparently doubled as storage for some matches. In no time, Fives had started a humble fire amongst the wood in the fireplace and was stepping back toward you.
"Take your coat off, get cozy!" he laughed in delight, sitting down on the sofa and patting the cushion next to him.
You reluctantly shrugged off your coat. You could feel little puffs of warm air from the fire but the room overall was still too cold to be comfortable. You let out an involuntary shiver as you joined Fives on the sofa.
"Uh oh," he teased, scooting closer. "Need to cuddle for warmth?"
You knew his offer was in jest, but you couldn't resist the thought, especially when your cheeks were already heating at an alarming rate just by sitting this close. Fuck it, you decided, and promptly slid your arms around his middle and pulled him close.
"Well okay then," he laughed in amusement, wrapping his own arms around you in return. He wasn't angry, which you took as encouragement and buried your frozen nose into the crook of his neck. You felt one of his hands come up to rest on the back of your head, keeping you in place for a wonderful, peaceful moment.
You warmed up fairly quickly, though your fingers still felt numb. Without thinking, you shifted a bit and slid your hands underneath Fives' shirt, seeking the warmth of his skin. His muscles tensed in response.
"Whoa there," he chuckled lowly. "Keep doing that and you'll end up on the naughty list."
The heat from the blush on your cheeks immediately shot through the rest of your body. You were mortified. Fives was your friend, what were you doing?
You detached yourself quickly and mumbled an apology. He was still laughing a bit so you joined in nervously, but not daring to meet his eyes. Not when you were this flustered. He relaxed back onto the sofa and draped an arm along the backside, just beside your head.
"So, um, what do you want for Christmas?" you asked, trying to get past your awkwardness and back to the easygoing state of your friendship, despite the ache deep within your chest that yearned for something more.
"Me? Oh, nothing much."
Now you looked over at him, balking. "Fives!"
"What?" he grinned.
You swatted at him. "You just gave me shit for not wanting anything!"
"I said I didn't want much, not that I didn't want anything at all."
You huffed. "Okay, then what is this 'nothing much' that you want?"
His smile didn't completely disappear, just settled into something a little softer, more pensive. He cocked his head a bit as he looked at you, considering what to say.
"Would you be mad if I said that all I want for Christmas is you?"
You blinked at first, unable to come up with an other reaction. How could you? How could you process such a confession? Was it even a confession? Or was he just being cheeky?
You forced yourself to clear your throat. "Mad? Confused is more like it."
"Confused?" He smirked for only a second before settling back into that strange and soft look. "What's so confusing?"
"Uh... I mean..." you stammered through an awkward laugh. "What does that even mean? You want me... to do something? To... to... see me? You're seeing me right now..."
Your skin was still alight with a fire that seemed to burn brighter than the one in the fireplace. You were so flustered, and Fives was getting a real kick out of it.
"Calm down, cyare," he laughed, scooting a little closer and taking your hands into his. "I want you, as in, I want to... you know.. be with you."
He was starting to get a little shy himself, though you weren't really paying attention. Your heart was threatening to beat its way out of your chest, so you instead focused on the feeling of Fives' hands wrapped around yours. So warm, so firm. They grounded you just enough for his words to sink in. He wanted to be with you.
Now you felt like you were floating. That nasty knot that had settled into the pit of your stomach, back when you'd thought he wasn't coming home, was finally coming undone. Freeing you from its weight. Letting you soar with hope for a different kind of future with your best friend.
When you finally brought your eyes back up to meet Fives', you could finally see the blush in his own cheeks, the way his eyes searched yours for validation. He'd made himself vulnerable in a way he'd only ever been a handful of times with you. Like when he'd confessed how frustrated he was about the war, how angry it made him sometimes to think about it, how he secretly held dreams of one day escaping and living a normal life somewhere. You thought back to those conversations now, viewing them in a different light. You'd always wondered what his idea of normal was, if it included anyone else... anyone like you. And now you were starting to get an idea that it did.
"I'm sorry if this is sudden," he said quickly and quietly, filling in the silence you didn't mean to leave. "It's just... you know this last mission was... well, it didn't go very well. And it made me reevaluate my life. What I really want. And honestly, I couldn't stop thinking about you."
He gave a bashful smile and you returned it, easing his nerves just a little.
"I was really worried about you," you confessed, giving his hands a reassuring squeeze. "I didn't just want you to come back, I wanted you to come back to me. And I'm so glad you want the same."
You both laughed once more, though more out of relief than nervousness, and ended by resting your foreheads against each other. Fives then let go of your hands so he could bring his arms back around you and pull you close again. You let yourself rest against him with a contented sigh... and then bolted right back up as a thought occurred to you.
"Wait, you said you want me for Christmas?"
"Yeah..." Fives' eyes were wide with alarm.
"Just for Christmas? And that's it?"
The tension immediately left his shoulders as he realized what you were doing. He gave you a look and you used all your willpower to hold back your amusement.
"So when Christmas is all over, you'll be done with me?" you pushed on with the bit. "You won't want me anymore?"
"Ugh, cyare, please," Fives rolled his eyes and tried wrapping his arms around you again.
"I just want to be clear about this." Your voice was breaking, as was his own act to be annoyed. The two of you could never hold it together for very long.
"Of course I'll want you after Christmas is over," he said through a chuckle. "I'll want you for Valentine's and for your birthday and all the solstices..."
"So you only want me on holidays?"
"You're killing me here, you know," he grumbled into your shoulder.
You would've continued with your teasing, but just then the front door opened behind you, letting in your missing friends. Even if you and Fives had tried to act innocent, you wouldn't have been quick enough. Whatever they'd been talking about on their way in immediately changed into a chorus of gasps and cheers.
"Well it's about time!"
"Oh my god!"
"Finally!"
"I knew it!"
You snuggled closer to Fives, in part to hide your embarrassment, but also to escape the wisp of cold air your friends had let in with them. Fives laughed along with the commotion while holding you, and it felt like the most natural thing, being in his arms like this.
"For the record," he later whispered into your ear, when things had died down with your friends enough, "I want you every day for the rest of my life. If you'll have me."
You smiled into his chest and held him closer.
"Of course. You're all I want, too."
