"Fives, I'm serious, I don't feel like going out tonight." Your protests clearly meant nothing to your dear friend who showed up at your door while you were in your sleep clothes, half a bottle of wine deep.
"That's too bad." He said as he invited himself in. "Because you are."
You glared at him as he walked past you. "I'm staying home."
He sighed dramatically, "I barely have any off time, and you know we ship out tomorrow, will you please just come out with me while I have today?"
It was hard to say no to him, not that you'd ever tell him that, but after all that had happened, you had no energy to go out. "Why don't you just stay here? We can watch a movie, have another bottle of wine." You suggested.
"Well, normally I'd love that... but I kind of promised Echo I'd introduce you to him." He grinned, sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck.
"Fives..." You groaned. "I don't want to be introduced to anyone."
"Isn't it time for you to get back out there? I mean, Echo is way better than that other guy, I know you'll love him. He's just like me, but not as handsome or funny."
"He's like you? So I won't like him at all then," you deadpanned.
"You wound me." He said dramatically before miraculously changing his tone. "Now let's go."
"You aren't taking no for an answer, are you?"
"Nope." He grinned. "Tell you what, just come with me to 79's, if you don't like him, or if you're not having fun, I'll pay for your cab home."
"How generous." You rolled your eyes. "Fine. Only to shut you up, I will go with you. Just let me get changed."
"Wear something hot!" He yelled as you walked toward your room, a grin plastered on his face knowing that he won.
"Kriff off." You answered, slamming your door behind you.
You barely had the energy to go out, you definitely didn't feel like wearing something hot. But you also knew Fives was relentless and if you walked out wearing jeans and a simple shirt, he'd march you back into your room and pick something out for you.
But maybe it wasn't a bad idea to go all out. After all, you were certain your ex had immediately gotten back out there after your breakup, in fact you were certain he'd gotten back out there before your breakup.
You shook your head in anger, then rifled through your closet, trying to find something that remotely resembled a club outfit, before you stopped at a dress Fives had gotten you as a joke. It was a cocktail dress, a bit short for your tastes with a deep v-shaped neckline, and of course in "501st Blue" as he put it.
You held it up to yourself, looking at it in the mirror, debating if it was a good choice or not.
"Hey you still have it!" Fives said, standing in the doorway.
You startled at the sudden intrusion. "Privacy?"
"You're taking too long. That's perfect, now put it on and let's go!"
Before you could complain, he closed the door behind him as he went back to the front room to wait for you.
You sighed and quickly changed into the dress before brushing out your hair and wiping away any remnants of yesterday's eyeliner, foregoing a new layer of makeup.
As you walked out of your room, you tugged on the hem of the dress, definitely too short for you, but before you had a chance to regret your choice, you felt Fives' hand on your arm, dragging you to the door.
"Can I at least put shoes on?"
He rolled his eyes, "I guess."
After you had thrown on a pair of black strappy heels, he was once again dragging you by the arm. You didn't even have a chance to fasten the straps, but you resigned yourself to having to figure it out in the cab.
"What's the hurry anyway? It's not like you have to leave tonight."
"I know, but it's never a bad thing to give ourselves more time."
"It's barely even dark yet," You pointed out as you exited your apartment building.
"Well maybe I told Echo we'd get something to eat first."
"Fives!"
"What? We're still going to 79s, just before it gets crowded and too loud for you guys to speak."
"How do you even know Echo will like me?"
"I just know." He flashed you a grin before hailing a cab over to you.
Once inside, you got to work on buckling up your shoes.
"Look," Fives said, his tone more serious than before. "Echo's a good guy, I obviously would never force you to meet him if I thought he wasn't going to like you, or if I thought you wouldn't like him."
"I know that," You told him, looking down at your lap, "I just... With the breakup and everything–"
"It's hard to put yourself out there again. I get it, but just... humor me, okay? And I swear, the second you tell me you want to leave, I'll get you out of there."
When you didn't answer immediately, Fives turned to you. His eyes met yours, seeing your hesitation immediately.
"We can turn around, it's not too late." He offered, his voice gave away that it wasn't really what he wanted, but you knew he'd hold to his word if you asked.
"I'm already dressed." You said, rolling your eyes slightly.
He leaned over and wrapped his arms around you. "I love you, thank you!"
"I know, now get off me." You joked, despite sinking into the hug.
The taxi stopped at the landing pad in front of 79's. You had barely had enough time to scan the area before you heard someone calling Fives' name.
You looked in the direction the voice came from and you saw him bounding over to you. As expected, he looked exactly like Fives, aside from his clean-shaven, tattooless face, and the prominent blue handprint painted on his chest plate.
He stopped in front of you, greeting Fives with a firm hug before looking to you.
You had caught him subtly looking you over, and for a moment you began feeling self-conscious about your outfit choice once again, but that melted when he extended his hand to shake yours.
"You must be Fives' friend, I'm Echo."
You gave him your name with a polite smile, taking his hand. "It's nice to meet you."
"Likewise, Fives has told me a lot about you."
You turned to your friend as if to ask what exactly he had been saying about you, but he changed the subject.
"Let's go inside, I'm starving!" He announced as he began walking toward the bar, leaving you and Echo to follow him.
Fives led the two of you to a booth, and once he had slid in, he stretched obnoxiously, forcing you to slide in next to Echo.
You ensured to keep your distance, trying to avoid getting too close to him, but you also made sure to give Fives a quick glare. He shrugged and grinned in response.
Once your orders were placed, Echo glanced to you.
"Fives tells me that you're a writer?"
"Well, trying to be." You admit. "I'm a journalist, but I want to write more creatively."
"What would you write about?" His curiosity is genuine, he didn't think he had ever met someone who wanted to write books before.
"Me, obviously." Fives chimed in from across the table. "I'd make an excellent hero."
You rolled your eyes, it isn't the first time he has indicated being the protagonist in a story you wrote.
You looked back to Echo and shrugged slightly, "I haven't really decided yet."
"Well, I can't wait to read it, whatever it ends up being." His voice was soft, he seemed excited about the idea, which is more than you could say for others.
Feeling warmth spread across your face, you looked back to the table quickly, just in time for your food to arrive.
The conversations were on and off as the three of you ate. They were mostly between Echo and Fives and you observed the two of them together, but occasionally you joined in as well.
Before long, your meals were done, and drinks had begun to be delivered to your table.
After one or two, Echo looked back and forth between you and Fives, before his gaze rested on you.
"Fives always talks about how good of friends you two are, but I'm curious, you've never... gone beyond that?"
You coughed into your cup before your laughter mingled with your coughing from the drink you inhaled.
"No," Was all you could say, and even that was strained.
You looked to Fives, who was laughing too. "I mean, I can't lie, look at her; she's beautiful. But, not my type."
Shaking your head at his compliment, you had finally cleared the liquid from your windpipe.
You looked to Echo and clarified. "Fives and I have been friends since he came to Coruscant, he asked me out, yeah, but we learned very early on that we were compatible only as friends."
Fives took another swig of his drink before giving you a knowing look. You raised an eyebrow as his focus turned to Echo.
"She's a bit too serious for me, y'know? Like she's smart, maybe a bit of a bookworm, would rather stay in and watch a holofilm, maybe that's why we work as friends. But honestly, she's more the kind of girl you like, Echo."
And there it was.
Your eyes widen slightly at his comment, before you attempt to drown your embarrassment with the remainder of your drink.
You can feel Echo shift slightly in his seat, and you decide it's a great time to go track down refills for the three of you.
Quickly getting up from your seat, you made a bee-line for the bar counter. Pushing through the group of clones that had begun to amass there.
You could feel their gazes upon you but you ignored them as you ordered drinks for your table and waited patiently.
Out of the corner of your eye, you could see the same blue handprint you had noticed earlier, and you turned to face Echo. He looked just as embarrassed as you, but he gave you an apologetic smile.
"I'm... That was uncalled for. Sorry that Fives embarrassed you like that."
You shook your head, "No, it's okay. Truthfully I saw it coming. I'm sorry that he put you on the spot."
"Don't worry about it. I mean, if anything, he's right."
His words took a moment to sink in, and the realization became present on your face as soon as they had.
"What do you mean?" You asked, trying not to jump to conclusions.
"I mean that, if how he described you is accurate, which I suspect it is, I'm the same way. This kind of place, it's fun, and I like coming here with the boys after a mission, but I prefer relaxing in my barracks, catching up on some reading, that kind of thing."
Before you could respond, another clone sitting at the bar turned to the two of you.
"Get a load of this guy, spends his time reading!" He slurred. "What a loser, you could do way better, doll."
He wasn't subtle about the way his eyes trailed up your body. He paused, looking at the hem of your dress, then his eyes continued upward, stopping at the deep-v neckline as he stared pointedly at your breasts.
You immediately felt yourself shrink away from his gaze as you could see him ogling you, but before you could say anything, you felt yourself being pulled backwards.
Echo had grabbed your arm and pulled you into him, shielding you from view while stepping between you and the other clone. He gave him a glare, but said nothing.
"You can't be serious, all that eyecandy for you?" The clone complained loudly. "Whatever, take the dumb chaakar back to your bunk and read to her. I bet that's why she wore that outfit." His tone was laced with sarcasm, and it wasn't lost on you.
Before either of you could react, the bartender arrived with your drinks. Both of you visibly relaxed and brought them back to the table.
Fives could tell something was up when he saw you approach, but Echo just shook his head, knowing that if he knew, his brother would cause something he'd have to clean up.
Echo slid into the booth first, and you followed. Once you were seated, still maintaining some distance from him, he inched slightly closer to you, resting his thigh against yours as a way to comfort you.
You took a sip of your drink and looked away from the table, not sure what to say.
Fives looked between you and Echo before you felt him nudge your foot from under the table. When you met his eye, he subtly nudged his head toward the door, silently asking if you wanted to leave.
You shook your head with a genuine smile and he relaxed.
"So what'd you guys talk about?" Fives finally asked.
"Insulting you, mostly." You answered, not skipping a beat.
"Only mostly? I'm offended."
"Not everything is about you, believe it or not." You smirked.
Echo took another swig of his drink. "I keep telling him that."
"If I had known this night would end up with you two teaming up against me, I'd have never brought you." Fives says with fake indignance, crossing his arms.
"You couldn't have expected anything different," you pointed out. "The two people who know you best, I'd say we make a pretty good team, wouldn't you agree, Echo?"
You smiled at him and he shifted in his seat a bit. "Y-Yeah, we do!"
With the drinks flowing, the three of you were able to continue your conversation, opening up more and more as the night went on.
You learned more about Fives that you probably could have gone your whole life without learning, but you also slowly started to get to know Echo.
It was almost as if you were both working on chipping away each others' quiet, introverted demeanors, until eventually, Echo chipped a bit too much.
"Fives had mentioned you weren't seeing anyone, it's not really my business but is there a reason for that?"
Your stunned reaction made him start to regret his question and he quickly back-pedaled. "That was a dumb question, you don't have to answer that."
"No, no it's fine I just..." You looked at Fives for support then back at your drink, before looking to Echo again. "I guess to make a long story short, my last partner cheated on me."
"A lot." Fives added in, earning a glare from you.
"I caught him with someone else, he tried to tell me it was nothing, that I was crazy for being upset, that I should have seen it coming, and every excuse in the book. Even accused me of cheating with Fives. But then the truth came out about everyone else he had been with." Your finger circled idly around your glass as you stared at the remaining liquid.
Echo was silent. It took a minute of silence before you finally looked over at him. His expression was something between confusion and anger as he processed what you told him.
"I..." He looked at Fives, "Is this guy still living?"
"Unfortunately yes." Fives answered, "Though I did ask if I could do the honours and kill him myself, but she said no."
"He wasn't worth the jail time you would have gotten." You said, your tone indicating that this wasn't the first time you had said it.
"I'm sorry." Echo looked back at you. His hand reaching out, then hesitating, then finally resting it on your shoulder. "I may not know you well, but from what I've learned and seen, it truly is his loss. I couldn't even imagine anyone throwing away a relationship with you."
You could feel yourself blush at his words, his voice was so genuine, he meant what he was saying. The way he looked into your eyes; maybe Fives was right and you would end up with a crush.
Fives looked back and forth between the two of you before smirking to himself and drinking the last sip of his beverage.
"I'm gonna go get us some refills. Be back in a minute."
After a moment, Echo removed his hand from your shoulder, but you were very aware of how his fingertips brushed your arm when doing so.
"So, what about you?" You asked after a beat.
"What do you mean?"
"Why aren't you seeing anyone?"
He rubbed the back of his neck. "Ah, well... it's kind of against regulation."
"So I've heard, but most of the people I've talked to seem to ignore that rule."
"Yeah, I guess I've just always been a stickler for the rules. And, I mean," a faint blush crept across his cheeks, "That clone at the bar wasn't wrong. Women aren't exactly lining up to spend time with me when there are more fun people out there."
"I'm here, aren't I?" You blurted out.
Once you realized what you said, your eyes widened and your gaze quickly turned back to your empty glass.
Echo chuckled quietly beside you. "Yeah, I guess you are."
You looked around nervously, not knowing what to say. You glanced toward the bar before looking back at Echo. "Fives has been gone a while, I think I'll go check that he can handle the drinks."
"You sure? I could go if you want, I don't want anyone to bother you again."
You smiled, appreciative of his concern.  "I'll be alright."
"If you say so," He shrugged, "I'll be here."
You gently rested your hand on his before you got up from the bench. As soon as he couldn't see your face, your eyes widened in panic wondering why you did that. Echo only stared after you, smiling.
When you approached the bar, you found Fives right away, leaning against the counter and talking to another clone as he waited on your drinks.
The other clone turned to you as soon as he noticed you approach.
Of course he was the same one as earlier.
"Back already?" He asked, "What, did he finally bore you?"
You rolled your eyes, and without looking at him, you replied flatly. "Quite the opposite."
Fives raised an eyebrow at your exhange, "Did I miss something?"
"Just glad I get to admire the scenery again."
You visibly cringed, but you did your best to ignore him as you focused on Fives. "I just came up to see if you needed help with the drinks."
Fives, still confused, nodded. "Yeah, sure. You gonna tell me what's going on?"
"Just some jagyc thinking he can take me home." You explained as if he wasn't right beside you. Your Mando'a wasn't great, but you'd heard quite a few insults in the time you've spent with Fives.
"What, you already get bored of Booksmart? Moved onto someone else? Or are you just some barrack bunny trying to get as many clones as possible?"
"Ease up, maybe you've had a bit too much to drink." Fives said with an uncharacteristically serious voice. "She's not interested, and the next time you insult her, you'll be doing so without teeth."
Before he could say anything else, the bartender arrived with your drinks. You took yours while Fives grabbed the other two, but you hesitated as you were walking away.
"Everything okay?" Fives was concerned when you suddenly stopped.
"Actually I–" You stared down at your feet.
"You want to go home? I'd understand, that clone was out of line."
"No it's not that... I just, need to talk to you."
He raised an eyebrow, "What's up?"
"There's not really an ideal time to say this, and as much as it pains me to admit... You were right. While you were up here, Echo and I started talking and... I don't know, he's sweet."
Fives' confused face turned into a grin as soon as you said he was right. "So what are you saying? You like him?"
"I don't know..." You could feel heat flooding your cheeks. "I won't make any guarantees, but I want to get to know him better."
"That could be arranged, leave it to me!"
Before you could say anything, Fives turned around and started walking back to your table.
"Wait, Fives, no!" You trailed behind him, terrified of what he meant. What was he going to do?
When you got back to the table and slid into the booth, you eyed Fives cautiously.
"So, Echo," Fives started and you felt a pit grow in your stomach. "Got any plans for after the mission?"
He shrugged, "Nothing out of the ordinary."
"I think you should change up your routine. Why don't you two go on a date?" Fives said, gesturing to both of you.
Your eyes widened and your knew your face had to be beet red by now. You couldn't even turn your head to look at Echo.
"Oh, really? Why us?" He asked, genuine curiosity in his voice.
"Well I mean, you seem to get along pretty well, you have stuff in common, I think you'd really hit it off without me sitting across from you."
Echo paused before answering again. He looked over at you and noticed you wouldn't meet his gaze. "What do you think?"
Slowly, you turned your head to face him. "I mean... if you want to, I wouldn't mind." Your voice was quiet as you desperately tried to hide your nerves.
He gave you a sweet smile, "Then I guess it's a date, as soon as we're back."
Fives smiled between the two of you then gave you a wink when you finally looked back at him.
"Where are you guys shipping off to, anyway?"
Fives shrugged, "Lola Sayu, some kind of fortress or something. Shouldn't be too long, it's just a retrieval mission."
"Do you want me to head to the landing dock tomorrow morning as usual?"
"Usual?" Echo repeated.
"Yeah she normally sends us off, maybe you've never noticed." He turned back to you, "I don't think you'll be able to this time, the general said we have to take an alternate means of transport."
Your shoulders sank slightly, "Oh, I see. That sounds interesting though. I'll just have to send you luck when we're done here."
Fives smiled, downing the last of his drink. "We should probably get going soon, early start and all."
You and Echo finished your respective drinks after him and nodded, slowly shuffling out of the booth, heading toward the exit.
There were more clones gathered outside now, and the cool nighttime air on your skin made you shiver.
Fives hailed a taxi as you and Echo hung back, not really sure what to say to each other now.
Once the cab arrived, Fives let you go in first, followed by Echo and then himself.
"Two stops," you told the droid before giving it your address, but you were cut off by Fives before you could tell it the second stop.
"Just the one stop."
You looked at him with an eyebrow raised in confusion.
"We won't see you tomorrow, I'm not accepting a half-assed goodbye from the cab."
You rolled your eyes, "Fine."
Once the taxi arrived at the landing dock outside of your apartment, the three of you left the vehicle, one after the other.
Fives scooped you up into a big hug as soon as you exited the cab, holding you tight against his chest. You wrapped your arms around his shoulders.
"Try not to miss us too much, got it?" He said into your shoulder. You smiled and tightened your side of the hug.
"Try not to get blown up." You joked.
You could feel him smile before he broke the hug, looking into your eyes. You rested a hand against his cheek gently.
"Comm me as soon as you can. And stay safe." You looked at Echo then back to Fives. "Keep each other safe."
"Of course," Fives replied before giving you a soft kiss on your forehead then stepping away so you could talk to Echo.
The two of you exchanged a slightly more awkward albeit friendly hug.
"You don't get blown up either." You told him with a half-smile.
"I'll try not to. We've got a date when I get back." He reminded you.
"It was nice meeting you. I'm looking forward to getting to know you better."
He smiled as his cheeks and ears flushed slightly pink. "Likewise."
You took a step toward him before kissing his cheek. "Stay safe."
"Of-of course." His hand rested against his cheek where you kissed him. "I'll let you know when I get back."
You smiled at him. Fives approached the two of you again.
"We should get back to the barracks, Rex won't be happy if we're too late."
"I don't want to keep you. Just, be careful. I'll see you both when you get back!"
You watched as they hailed another taxi and boarded. Once the transport was out of sight, you walked into your apartment building, already looking forward to the day they returned.
– – –
One night, a couple of weeks following your night at 79s, you were woken up to the sound of a fist slamming on your door. You jolted upright, hesitating if you should answer it or not.
You sat in your bed, trying to stop yourself from trembling as you waited with bated breath if whoever was at your door would knock again.
They did, only softer this time.
Slowly, you crept out of your bedroom, trying to make as little sound as possible before you finally made it to the front door. You pressed your ear against it, hoping to hear who was on the other side, but they didn't make a sound between knocks.
"Wh-who's there?" You asked, shakily.
"Please open the door, it's Fives." You visibly relaxed before unlocking and opening the door for your friend.
Before you could say anything, he wrapped his arms around you, pulling you into his chest, just as he did the night before he left.
"I'm sorry." He said, barely a whisper.
You backed away from his embrace and you moved to close and lock your front door, turning the hall light on once it was closed.
"I didn't know you were back, you should have commed me!" You told him, assuming his apology was for his extended time away.
"We just got back, I sent you a message but I guess you were asleep. I..." He looked down and you could see his jaw clench as he balled his hands into fists. "I couldn't..."
He trailed off and your smile fell. "Is everything okay?"
He looked away, not meeting your gaze, until you placed your hand on his cheek, forcing him to look at you.
"Fives, what's wrong?"
"It's... it's Echo." His voice broke slightly and you could feel the pain in your chest caused by his sadness. "I tried to stop him but he–"
You could see his eyes start to water before he could get the words out, and he melted into your palm. You pulled him into another embrace, gently stroking his hair.
"Why don't you sit down and tell me what happened?" You suggested. It was strange to see Fives so upset, in all the time you've been friends, you couldn't think of a time where he's been angry in front of you, let alone crying. You took his hand and led him to the couch.
Once he was seated, he brought his hand to his face, trying to sneakily wipe away tears as if he didn't want you to see them.
"Echo's dead." He said after a long pause. "Droids blew up our ship, Echo tried to defend it."
"I see." You couldn't think of what to say.
Words of comfort usually came so naturally to you, but you were speechless. It's true you didn't know Echo very well, even after your night out, but the news made your heart ache. You had been looking forward to seeing him again, to going on your date, and all of that had been taken away, but more importantly, Fives just lost one of his brothers.
You looked over at Fives who was already looking at you. He didn't know how you'd take the news and he was worried.
"I'm sorry, Fives. I didn't know him well, but he didn't deserve that."
"Him and I were the last of our original squad and now I'm alone, I couldnt even retrieve his helmet." He sighed, "And you were supposed to go out with him after, I told you I'd keep him safe."
"Hey, don't worry about me. I'm sad that he's gone, believe me, but I just want to make sure you're okay."
"I've lost brothers before, it's what we were created for, but... It's not right. Echo deserved to live."
"You all do. Just because you were created for war doesn't mean you have to just accept your fate or anyone else's." You shook your head. "It's late, and I don't want you to be alone right now. Do you want to stay over?"
"Yeah, that would be nice. Thank you."
"Of course." You leaned over on the sofa, kissing his temple before wrapping your arms around him. "We can talk more about it in the morning, okay?"
"Sorry for waking you up."
"I'm glad you did."
You stood up from the couch to grabs Fives a pillow and some blankets you had stored nearby for this exact reason.
"If you need anything, help yourself. Get some sleep, okay?"
"I'll do my best."
You walked back to your room and laid back down in your bed. Suddenly the full wave of everything he told you hit you and you could feel your eyes water.
You didn't feel it was right for you to cry over someone you barely knew, it felt selfish to mourn someone you wanted to get to know better. You couldn't shake the thought of what could have been.
Your chest ached with sadness and longing, wishing he could have made it through. Fives was right, Echo deserved to live.
While you were alone you allowed yourself to cry for him, but you knew you had to be strong for Fives. He wouldn't forgive himself if he saw you cry, and he didn't need that guilt. You could get through this. You just wished you could see him again.
As you lay, staring at the ceiling, you heard a gentle knock on your bedroom door. You hastily wiped any tears from your face and turned on the lamp beside your bed.
"Come in." You called out, before the door opened.
Fives looked as though he wanted to say something, but couldn't voice it. He shied away in embarrassment before you offered him a gentle smile.
"If you want to stay in here, that's okay."
"Thanks..." he muttered before walking around to the other side of your bed. "I'm sorry I just.."
"You don't want to be alone, I understand. Come here." You invited him toward you with open arms, and he moved closer to you, laying his head on your chest. You gently stroked his hair.
"I'm sorry."
"There's nothing you need to apologize for."
"I shouldn't have asked you to come out with us that night."
"I'm glad I did. It's true that I didn't get to know him well, but I'm glad that I met him. And I feel more equipped to help you now because I did."
"You're allowed to be upset too, you know. You don't have to comfort me. Echo wouldn't shut up about your date, it was actually getting pretty annoying, I'm just sorry he couldn't be here for it."
"Thank you for telling me that." In a weird way it did make you feel better, and it helped that Fives could still make fun of his brother despite the circumstances. "I'll be okay, though. And I'll be here for you whenever you need me."
Fives smiled slightly and closed his eyes, allowing himself to finally find sleep, and you followed shortly after.

The Marauder has taken a beating. Apart from the annoying alarm noise in the cockpit, there are clearly too many red lights flashing on the control console for Hunter's taste. Practically limping along on only one and a half thrusters left, the shuttle has jumped out of hyperspace. "I'm really missing Tech right now," he growls under his breath. Wrecker, sitting with the prisoner behind him, looks concerned. "We can still land, right?" Hunter laughs humorlessly and says, "Yes, we can land, but it won't be pretty." Hastily, he opens the com link to the planet's surface and reports, "On our way back, we have the package with us. However, we will have to make an emergency landing." Only a few seconds later, the men hear Tech's voice over the com. "What have you done to my ship!!!" "Can we please argue about this later? Have fire extinguishers and emergency equipment ready!" snaps Hunter back. After a sigh, Tech finally says, "Will do."
Tumblr media
You're anxious, you heard the com transmission, and you're helping Crosshair get everything ready for the emergency landing. Tech needs to stay with Echo for safety should his condition change. "Concentrate, Kitten," you hear Crosshair say, giving you a gentle push, "We have to hurry." You nod hastily and help him get the firefighting equipment ready, the medkits and the hydraulic shears to cut open the Marauder to free the occupants in case of emergency. Your heart is pounding wildly in your chest. There is a lot at stake here, apart from Hunter and Wrecker who are very important to you, Echo's last hope could also fade with this crash landing. Your eyes go skyward as you hear the shuttle, and it sounds anything but usual. The Marauder's thrusters rattle, and the shuttle trails a dark, black cloud of smoke behind it. Crosshair reaches for the extinguisher, already getting into position. "Doesn't look too hot," he grumbles. You can only nod silently, at a loss for words, your mouth dry with fear. "They're too fast," Crosshair finally hisses, "Way too fast." Nodding again, you say, "It seems the thrusters aren't all working."
Your heart hammers up into your throat. The Marauder arrives so quickly that you see little chance of anyone surviving the crash landing. You hear Crosshair breathlessly say, "Reverse thrusters Hunter, reverse thrusters, now! As if on cue, the thrusters flip and Hunter gets the very last out of the engines to slow the Marauder down at the last moment. A few feet above the ground, it seems to stop briefly in midair, then the jets fail and the Marauder plops to the ground like an overripe fruit falling from a tree, with a loud rumble. It's not exactly a hard crash landing, but the Marauder looks bad, clearly having just escaped a hard battle. Blaster marks all over the hull. Crosshair, and you immediately spray the smoking thrusters until the smoke dies down. With a rumbling crash, Wrecker kicks open the bent ramp that won't open automatically, and drags a person who doesn't really look like a person out into the open. You think you recognize that this person used to be a Duros, but 80 percent of his body has been replaced by cyborg parts, including a large part of his face, so you can only guess.
" May I introduce," Wrecker rumbles, "This is Uned Van, a member of the Techno Union and a doctor, a surgeon to be exact." Hunter pops up behind the two and grumbles, "And probably our only hope for Echo." It's hard to read any emotion in Uned Van's mostly metallic face, so you don't know how he sees the whole thing. But you guess, from the looks of the Marauder, he certainly didn't come along willingly.
Tumblr media
Arriving at your small infirmary, you do see a small reaction in Uned Van's face. The remaining Duro's eye widens. "I know this one," he says, intrigued, "I wasn't involved in his transformation, but I've read the reports, seen holorecordings." His voice is so metallic and hollow that you feel like you're listening to a droid. As Uned Van continues, he seems so fascinated, almost excited by what he's saying that you feel sick, "An ingenious project, converting a clone to pass on their strategies to our droids. According to the report, there wasn't much left of him after the explosion. Both legs gone, one arm gone, brain damage. Your kind would have let him die, basically you did leave him to die, or the other clones did, but we saw the potential in those clone remains." You can see the guys jaws grinding, every single one of them disgusted, but Echo needs Uned Van to survive, so no one dares lay a hand on him. Hunter and Crosshair retreat, Tech stays to check on Uned Van and possibly help. Wrecker sits in the corner, his eyes full of worry, but his arms crossed angrily. If Uned Van gets any stupid ideas, Wrecker will put him in his place.
You assume that Crosshair and Hunter have some catching up to do, but you don't have any thoughts or energy left for that. "Maybe you shouldn't be here," Tech says quietly to you, looking at you gently. "But-" "Tech is right, ad'ika," Wrecker says just as gently. You must have barely slept, try to get some rest. I promise I'll come get you as soon as something changes with Echo." You want to protest again, you want to stay here, but you feel the two are right, you are tired, you are overwrought and maybe only in the way. You don't want to leave Echo's side, but maybe that's better for you and him right now.
Tumblr media
As you leave the room, Crosshair and Wrecker are talking in the lounge, quiet, a little tense, but composed. The two are also in a bit of shock, all the current circumstances are anything but uplifting. A useless Marauder for the time being, a disgruntled Techno Union who will surely be looking for their surgeon and most importantly, Echo, a brother whose life hangs by a thread. For a moment you think about joining them, but then walk past them to the outside. You hear them pause in conversation, feel both sets of eyes following you, but ignore it. You go outside, not really knowing why. A deep breath, fresh air, but the smell of hot metal mixes with it, the Marauder. It looks terrible, battered, it's not going to take off anytime soon. All of a sudden, you become sad at the sight of the battered shuttle. It's like a reflection of the overall situation, also of how you feel, broken. "It's all a fucking wreckage, all of it," you mutter quietly to yourself, wrapping your arms around your own body. Suddenly, you feel a hand on your shoulder, and you spin around, startled. Crosshair is standing behind you. "Are you okay, Kitten?"
You shake your head and say, "No," then turn back to look at the Marauder, "I'm kind of like the Marauder, I guess." "Hmm" he mumbles quietly, "I know things are looking grim right now, but if there's one thing you can count on, it's Echo's stubbornness" You frown and ask without looking at him, "What do you mean?" Crosshair laughs softly and says, "He's way too stubborn to die. Echo always wants to take care of everyone and keep everything in order, he won't let this incident, stop him from continuing to do that, especially now that you've become part of his life." You blink away a few tears and say softly in a hushed voice, "I don't think you've ever said so many words in a row to me, except in your letter." Crosshair sighs softly and says, "It was never necessary before" "You guys okay?" you hear Hunter ask standing in the doorway to the cabin. "Sure," you say without turning around, "Everything's okay."
Tumblr media
Several hours pass, almost a whole day, until Wrecker finally comes out of the infirmary. You've fallen asleep on the sofa in the lounge, under the watchful eyes of Hunter and Crosshair, who both don't quite know how to deal with you at the moment. Wrecker gently shakes your shoulder, when you open your eyes you immediately grab his collar and ask him urgently, "How is Echo?" "He's alive, he survived the procedure," Wrecker says softly, releasing your fingers from his collar and helping you to your feet. Euphoria spreads through you, everything tingles, everything glows. But you don't dare jump for joy yet. There's a feeling inside you like you often have, but this time you can't really grasp it. Even though you just heard that Echo is alive, there is a strange feeling of emptiness inside you, as if something is missing, something essential. The feeling clouds the tingling with a dull, ominous throb that lingers in your chest as you enter the hospital room together. Tech seems slain, very tired, relieved but also strangely concerned. Your feeling begins to be confirmed, something is wrong. Uned Van turns his remaining eye on you, scrutinizing, waiting. He knows you will ask questions. You look at Echo, his head partially bandaged, a small monitor showing his vital signs.
Uned Van's tinny voice addresses you, "He'll be back on his artificial legs soon." "But?" you ask automatically, though no one has implied a 'but' yet. The cyber-Duros wants to answer, but Tech wearily raises a hand and says, "Let me handle this" "Ad'ika," Tech begins quietly, "Echo's brain has been largely replaced, by circuit boards, chips, artificial components. Most of them were fried beyond repair and had to be replaced" You blink, feeling your heart trying to burrow deeper inside you, you suspect something, but remain silent. Tech continues, "When brain tissue is damaged it may be able to recover and restore old memories with time, in this case that is not possible. We don't know how much of his memories Echo lost, how much and what of it was stored in the artificial components." Quietly, barely more than a whisper, you ask, "It could be that he has forgotten me, our time together?"
Tech sighs softly and nods, "In fact, it could be that he has forgotten all of us, it could be that his last memories are the ones just before the explosion." Your chest gets so tight that you can't breathe for a moment. There are a lot of things going through your mind, but contrary to your expectation, it's not that he won't know you anymore that worries you the most. "He's going to have to go through it all again? The realization that his body has been changed? That he lost his brothers, Fives, Kix, Hardcase, Jessy..." You interrupt yourself, trying to take a deep breath. "Maybe," Tech says, "It's not certain, but unfortunately, it's quite likely." Everything inside you tightens, wants to knot up, to crawl away. Echo stirs on the exam table. You rush to his side, as he opens his eyes and looks at you, you see the confusion in it, a tiny bit of panic. You feel miserable, but you smile gently at him. "Hi, Echo," you say softly. He frowns and looks around. "What's going on here? Where am I? Who are you?"
The last question cuts like a razor blade, but you're still smiling as you answer him quietly, "I'm a friend, you're safe, among friends." "Friends?" He tries to look around more, but can barely move yet. Confusion slowly turns into more panic, you see it clearly in his eyes. "I should be dead, the explosion, I'm sure I should be dead.... I, I can't feel my legs"

Classic Zelda games: "So Link doesn't talk because he's meant to resemble you the player 🥰"
Echoes of Wisdom: "Link doesn't talk because his ability to speak was physically taken from him by a dark force"
(edit: since I need people to understand Link can't talk at all. It was forced out of him. It's not a choice. That part of him was consumed)

Midnight Musings
Pairing: Echo x Reader
A/N: I think I should start a bingo card for myself with all this fandom hopping I'm doing lol Star Wars is my current hyper fixation, and one special copy paste boy had my soul in his hands.
Summary: You wake up to find Echo not in bed.
Word Count: 1,095
Warnings: This is truly the saddest thing I've ever written, which isn't saying much. But Echo has been to hell and back, and he needs all the hugs in the entire universe. So this was my self indulgent self doing just that.
Tumblr media
In a quiet bungalow somewhere on lower Pabu, something suddenly pulls you from the pleasant dream you were having. In the bed you share with Echo, something didn’t feel quite right, but you couldn’t place what it was.
You huff, mildly annoyed at the inconvenience of being pulled from sleep and snuggle deeper into the blankets in hopes of finding sleep again.
You sleepily reach behind you in hopes of Echo being able to hold you until you fall asleep again, only to find the sheets cold. “...Echo?” you mumble, sleep thick in your voice. Less sleepy than you were mere seconds ago, you now understand what had pulled you from your sleep.
Your boyfriend was not where he needed to be, and you had a feeling you knew just where to find him. Pushing the covers off yourself, you swing your feet over the edge, sliding until your feet gently hit the floor.
You start your journey out of your shared bedroom and into the living space, leaning against the doorway. Looking around for his familiar bald head, you find him sitting at the table, head resting in his good hand.
From what you can see, he’s glaring down at his scomp link that rests in his lap. “Honey, are you alright?” you whisper. Some nights Echo had a hard time with nightmares or sometimes it was his survivor’s guilt that did him in.
In the light of the moon, Echo looks up at you, a shimmer of regret in his eyes as he responds, “I’m sorry, cyare. Did I wake you? I didn’t mean to.” A sad smile lifts at the corner of your mouth as you pad towards him.
“It’s okay, really Echo. I woke up and you were gone so I thought I’d come find you.” Reaching the table, you place your hands on his shoulders to gently pull him back into a sitting position. “What was it this time, my love? A nightmare again?”
He sighs and reaches his hand up to hold yours that sits on his shoulder, then shakes his head no. “No, mesh’la. Not this time.”
Leaning forward you place a kiss to the top of his head. “Then if not a nightmare, what is keeping you awake at this hour, hmm? And if you think of fibbing to me and saying it’s nothing, then you will indeed have another problem to reckon with,” you respond, almost whispering the words into the top of his head where your lips remain.
You hear him chuckle tiredly at your sass, the sound of his laughter lifting your spirits a little. Breaking the hold of his hand on yours, you slide your hands over his torso, stopping at the chest plate that sits atop his sternum. You feel him sigh, simultaneously in relief and in resignation at your touch.
“Alright, fine.” The low cadence of his voice soothes you, as you hold him from behind. He reaches his good hand back up to lay over yours again, and you smile into his neck as he answers your question.
“Cyare, it’s just…I don’t…,” he sighs, struggling putting his feelings into words. “I miss Fives, so kriffing much. The rest of the Domino Squad too, but Fives and I were brothers by choice. The two of us had been together since Kamino. Having to carry on now? Knowing he doesn’t get to? It hurts.”
You feel him shudder in your arms as speaking becomes too much for him, your arms instinctively pulling him closer into your arms. Heart breaking for this beautiful man, you softly respond, “I know you wish you could bring them back, and if it were possible, I’d do it for you in a second.”
Stepping back, you keep one of your hands clasped tightly in his as you slowly slip around his shoulder to face him. Dropping to your knees, you reach up to caress his face with your free hand. When a tear falls from his amber eyes, you lightly brush it away with a swipe of your thumb.
You squeeze his hand before continuing, “But I do know that wherever they are, they are so proud of you, Echo. You may have the scars and some metal parts to contend with now, but you survived. And are all the stronger for it. Your resilience and quiet strength are a couple of the millions of reasons why I have fallen in love with you.”
A small smile graces your lips as you drop his good hand and gently pick up his scomp link still sitting in his lap. “This old scomp link? Is proof to me every day that you survived and are here with me. I wouldn’t trade that for anything, Echo. And if you need me to remind you every kriffing day that I love you, and that I’m not going anywhere, then that’s exactly what I’ll do.” Lifting it to your lips, you place a gentle kiss against his scomp while retaining eye contact with him.
His bottom lip quivers, and his eyes blink slowly. You can see the emotions churning below the surface of his beautiful face. Then, you are suddenly yanked up into his lap and into his embrace as he holds you close.
You place one arm around his neck, pulling yourself level with him. His response is a rumble of emotion, “Thank you, my love. You always know exactly what to say to me to make me feel better. I’m sorry you have to-”
“Ah!” you suddenly place a hand over his mouth. “If I hear another apology out of your mouth, good sir, then I'll have to punch you. And I’d really hate to have to do that, Echo.” A grin breaks out on your face, as you make eye contact with him.
He looks emotionally drained, but graces you with one of genuine smiles as you lean forward and place a kiss against his headset. As soon as you move your head away from him, you feel him turn his head and pull you in to press a gentle kiss to your lips. “You’re not wrong,
cyar’ika. I’d hate to have you get violent. Your punches hurt.” He chuckles, and you feel it tingle on your lips. “And for the record? I love you too. Thank you for being so understanding.”
He kisses you again, pulling you close. The two of you continue to sit in the quiet of the kitchen, trading kisses and soft words until the sky outside turns gray; a new day on the horizon.

A/N: Nothing like a little angst to start everyones day! As always comments and feedback are appreciated--My asks are open as well! I hope everyone enjoys - Libra * .♡ *:・゚✧ ⋆ ࣪.* ࣪.⋆ Summary: Caught in a painful love triangle with Logan and Jean Grey, the reader confronts Logan about their unspoken connection... The silence in the mansion's corridors was thick, the kind that presses against your chest, making it hard to breathe. Every step you took echoed off the cold, marble floors as you made your way to the training room. It was late—too late for anyone else to be awake—but you knew he'd be there. He always was when the weight of the world became too much to bear.
You paused outside the door, your hand hovering just above the handle. A part of you didn't want to go in. You already knew what you'd find—Logan, shirtless and sweating, his muscles rippling as he pushed himself far beyond what was necessary. He didn't need to train, not really. You both knew that. It was his way of escaping the thoughts that clawed at him, the memories that refused to stay buried.
And you knew why he was there tonight.
Jean.
The name alone sent a sharp pang through your heart. You weren't naive. You saw the way Logan looked at her, the way his eyes softened, his gruff demeanor shifting whenever she was around. He was a man of few words, but his actions spoke louder than any confession ever could. He loved her—he loved her in a way that was primal, consuming. But Jean… Jean was with Scott.
You weren't sure where you fit into all of this. You and Logan had a connection, something raw and unspoken. But it was hard to define what that was when his heart was so clearly caught between two worlds—between you and the woman he could never truly have.
Taking a deep breath, you pushed the door open. The room was dimly lit, the only light coming from the small lamp in the corner. Logan was there, just as you knew he'd be. His back was to you, the muscles of his shoulders and arms flexing as he pounded his fists into the punching bag.
"Logan," you called softly, your voice barely above a whisper.
He didn't stop, didn't even acknowledge you. His focus was singular, every punch carrying the weight of his frustrations. You walked closer, each step feeling like a mile, until you were standing just a few feet behind him.
"Logan, please," you tried again, your voice trembling.
This time, he paused, his hands dropping to his sides. Slowly, he turned to face you, and your heart clenched at the sight of his face—those deep-set eyes, filled with pain and something else you couldn't quite place.
"Why are you here, kid?" he asked, his voice rough and tired.
You winced at the nickname, one he'd given you long ago when you'd first joined the X-Men. Back then, it had been endearing, a sign of the bond you were building. But now… now it felt like a reminder of the distance between you.
"I could ask you the same thing," you replied, trying to keep your voice steady.
Logan huffed, wiping the sweat from his brow with the back of his hand. "Needed to clear my head."
You nodded, though you both knew it was more than that. "I thought maybe… maybe you needed someone to talk to."
He looked at you then, really looked at you, and for a moment, you saw the walls he'd built up around himself start to crumble. But just as quickly, they were back in place, his expression hardening.
"There's nothing to talk about," he said gruffly.
You swallowed the lump in your throat. "Logan… you don't have to pretend with me. I know you're hurting."
His jaw clenched, the muscles in his neck tightening as he looked away. "And what do you want me to say, huh? That you're right? That I can't get her outta my head? That every time I see her with him, it feels like a goddamn knife in my chest?"
Your breath caught in your throat, the raw honesty in his words cutting through you like a blade. But it wasn't just his pain that hurt—it was the realization that you were a part of it. That maybe, just maybe, you were only a distraction, something to keep him from drowning in his feelings for Jean.
"I don't want to be your second choice," you whispered, the words escaping before you could stop them.
Logan's eyes snapped back to you, surprise flickering in their depths. "You're not—"
"Aren't I?" you interrupted, your voice trembling. "Because that's what it feels like. Every time you're with me, it's like you're trying to forget about her. But I can't—Logan, I can't be that person for you. I can't keep pretending that this doesn't hurt."
He took a step closer, his hand reaching out to touch your arm, but you pulled away, the distance between you growing. The look of hurt that flashed across his face was almost enough to make you reconsider, but you held your ground.
"I'm sorry," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
You shook your head, tears welling in your eyes. "I know you are. But sorry doesn't change anything, does it?"
Logan's shoulders slumped, the weight of your words crashing down on him. "I never meant to hurt you."
"But you did," you replied, your voice breaking. "And I don't know if I can keep doing this. I can't keep being in love with you when you're in love with her."
The silence that followed was deafening, the air between you thick with unspoken words. You could see the conflict in his eyes, the battle he was fighting within himself. But you knew—deep down, you knew—he wasn't going to choose you. Not really.
"I don't want to lose you," he finally said, his voice raw with emotion.
You took a deep, shuddering breath, trying to steady yourself. "You already have."
The words hung in the air, a finality to them that neither of you could ignore. And as you turned to leave, you felt a part of your heart break, knowing that this was the end of whatever it was you and Logan had.
You walked out of the room, each step heavier than the last, the distance between you and Logan growing with every second. You didn't look back—you couldn't. Because if you did, you knew you'd crumble. You knew you'd run back to him, and you couldn't allow yourself to do that.
As you reached the end of the hallway, you paused, your hand resting on the wall for support. The tears you'd been holding back finally spilled over, and you let them fall, each one a release of the pain you'd been carrying for so long.
But even through the tears, you knew one thing: you deserved more than being second best. And as much as it hurt to walk away from Logan, you knew it was the only way to heal.
The only way to find yourself again.

Heyy love your writing, first time requesting.
Could you please do casual dominance with Mingyu and Wonwoo (separately) with reader? Like guiding the reader nonsexually, a hand on the reader's neck when whispering in their ear, helping choose dresses?
Thank you in advance!
casual dominance ⟆ mingyu & wonwoo
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
mingyu loved helping you pick out clothing. from dresses to lingerie he was always there to offer his opinion and credit card. he stands behind you one hand on the back of your neck the other one zipping up your dress. his mouth dangerously close to your neck, “this looks stunning on you baby,” a shiver rolled down your spine. “thank you gyu, but it’s too much money.” you pouted. his hand snaked around to grip the front of your throat. “now baby, a gentleman never makes his girl pay,” he left an open mouth kiss on your neck and left you alone to go pick out more lingerie. your whole body felt hot after his searing touches.
wonwoo’s favorite pastime was helping his girl pick out lingerie. he didn’t do it to be sexual no, he did it because he loved seeing you feel confident and beautiful. wonwoo’s fingers carefully clipped the bra in place, his hands then taking their place on your shoulders. he leaned down resting his chin on top of your head. “see baby, now doesn’t that look gorgeous?” he grinned seeing your cheeks heat up. “we’re getting it,” he left a kiss on your neck and no room to argue.

Aemond Targaryen x Reader/fem!OC
Series Summary: You made a promise to Aemond once, when you were young and naive, and the only friend he'd ever known; yet you abandoned him before you could fulfill it. Between broken bonds, a betrothal, and flames that still burn deep within you; this is the story of how you fell apart and found each other again.
A/N: My newest series is finally here, and it's one that I am incredibly excited about. I'm not going to say this is fully a reader-insert, because there will be a few minor characterizations for the main girl, I even considered writing this in third person but at the end of the day second person is the style I'm much more used to and comfortable with. However, I believe it is still "vague" enough that it can be considered a reader-insert too. All in all, I sincerely hope you can enjoy this story, I promise it'll be a good one. <3

"Tell me again."
From one of the highest points in the Red Keep, you could see the immensity of King's Landing and the waves of Blackwater Bay crashing to shore.
"Tell you what?"
The wind was cold yet gentle, dusk settled on the horizon; painting the skies and clouds in deep golden.
"The story of how you found your dragon."
You smiled, easy and knowing. Aemond has heard this story a dozen times already, yet you never refused to tell him just one more time, whenever he asked. From the glint in the young prince's eyes, you knew that it gave him hope that one day he would find a dragon of his own.
"My father, Laena, my sisters, and I were traveling again, we had stopped by a small town to let the dragons rest. And there, they told us they had spotted a rogue dragon. As wild as a lioness. She'd come out to hunt at night, during heavy rain and lightning storms." You motioned theatrically with your hands, an excited grin on your lips as you recounted the fateful night you'd met your dragon.
Aemond listened closely, as he always did, leaning his elbows on the balcony's balustrade and keeping his gaze attentively on you.
"One night, when we were staying at a house at the edge of town, I walked out while everyone was asleep. Do you know why?" You bit at the inside of your cheek, playing the usual game.
"You heard her," Aemond answered with the same spark of youthful joy.
"I did," you whispered as if it was a well-guarded secret, leaning closer to the boy. "I could hear her outside, the sound of her wings, her heavy steps on the ground. It was raining, and dark, but I felt as if... as if she was calling to me." You placed a hand over your heart.
"I think Caraxes heard when I got out, I think I ended up waking him," both you and Aemond chuckled. "But he kept quiet when he saw it was me. I walked for a while during that night, until..." You paused dramatically, and Aemond grinned. "Until I saw her, feasting on a stolen lamb."
Aemond's eyes were sparkling, he was drinking in every word.
"She was so pretty," you recalled with a soft smile, looking out to the horizon and the darkening sky. "I could see the dark blue of her scales, and then the brighter blue of her wings. Her horns were long and pointy, and she had this patch of fur in between them and on the back of her neck that I'd never seen before."
"She didn't attack you," Aemond mumbled, more a statement than a question; he knew the answer.
You shook your head; "No, she just looked at me with those beautiful eyes, they looked like they were glowing. And then she came closer, baring her teeth, but I asked her to stay calm. Told her I was a friend." You picked at your nails, a fondly nostalgic look in your eyes. "She followed me back home after that. I think she liked that I wasn't afraid of her. Father was furious for what I had done, but I think he was even more curious about my new dragon." You shrugged, with a cheeky grin, "The next morning, I chose to ride her for the first time, and she let me. We don't know if she ever had a rider before me, but we share a deep bond now."
"You are so lucky," Aemond told you, his voice low and eyes downcast; not because of your story, but because the boy wished to have the same luck you did.
Turning your head to try and catch his gaze, you spoke with conviction, "You're going to find your dragon soon, Aemond, I know you will. And when you do, we're going to fly together over all of King's Landing, I promise you."
Despite the solemn look in his eyes, the young Aemond smiled.
You extended a hand to him then, "Come on, your mother will be mad if we're late to supper… again." Wiggling your fingers for him, you held back a grin.
Aemond rolled his eyes halfheartedly, taking your hand anyway.
You walked together through the hallways of the castle, blissfully innocent and unaware of the amused whispers between the maids about how you two would still marry someday.
─── ⋄✧⋄ ───
Two nights later, Aemond did find his dragon. However, it came at a cost.
The day had been one filled with grief. Laena had passed away after trying to give birth to her third child. While she was not your birth mother, you had spent enough years by her side to consider her something similar to it; as she was, after all, the closest thing to a mother that you knew. She had always been kind to you, treating you no different than how she treated your two half-sisters.
You mourned her loss, the salty air of the sea mixing with the salt of your tears as you watched the ceremony unfold.
As soon as she had learned of her third pregnancy, Laena wanted to return home. Your father eventually agreed to halt the travelers life for her sake, and once King Viserys got word of your return he offered all of you a home in King's Landing again. Laena had been happy with the agreement since her brother lived there too.
And so that's how you came to meet Aemond. That was several months ago, yet it sometimes feels like it was just yesterday.
Tonight, you had gone to bed with red and puffy eyes, but it didn't take long for the distant sound of fast-paced steps and arguing to pull you from your sleep. You got up, rubbed your still tired eyes, and tiptoed towards the commotion, bare feet padding over the cold stone floor of Driftmark.
After turning corners and almost getting lost in the infinite hallways, you found your family. Everyone stood around the lit fire of the throne room fireplace while the Maester tended to someone you couldn't yet see as the back of the chair they were sitting on blocked your view.
Alicent was shouting, Rhaenyra and her sons were shouting, everyone was shouting; you heard the sharp words yet couldn't make much sense of them.
You spotted your father leaning against a pillar, a couple of feet away from everyone, and ran up to him, immediately clinging to the fabric of his vest and looking up at him with questioning eyes. He didn't speak, simply lay a hand on your back and then on your head, in the best comforting manner he could muster.
The shouting match continued until Viserys had to raise his own voice, everyone in the spacious room stayed quiet for a moment then. You could hear your shaky breath, feeling it in your bones that something was wrong. You gripped tighter onto your father, leaning your head against him.
Breaking the silence, Viserys demanded answers from Aemond, and your heartbeat sped up at the sound of your friend's name. And then his mother was speaking about the injustice of him being maimed. And when Rhaenyra mercilessly demanded that he be questioned, Aemond finally looked in her direction, and consequently, yours.
You saw it then. Deep red blood glinting in the low light of the fire, painful stitches stretching skin while also holding it together, his eye sewn shut. You couldn't hold back a gasp at the sight of him, the whole left side of his face now forever marked with an angry, deep cut that went from his forehead, over his eye, and down to the middle of his cheek. Seeing your friend like this twisted your stomach in all the wrong ways and made you feel like puking out your dinner, you were almost poking holes in your father's vest with how tight you were gripping it, already feeling your eyes burn with unshed tears.
Aemond met your gaze from afar, he looked almost as stunned and lost as you; but he was also quick to look away and hide behind the back of his chair again.
You didn't hear much of the rest of the fight then, all turning into muffled noise to your ears as your father took hold of your hand to pull you forward with him and into the commotion when Alicent picked up a dagger, dashing towards Rhaenyra. The sight of Aemond's bruised and slashed face forever burnt into the back of your mind.
The only voice you clearly heard again, was his; "Do not mourn me, mother. It was a fair exchange. I may have lost an eye, but I gained a dragon."
─── ⋄✧⋄ ───
You were only able to meet Aemond again on the next day, minutes before both of you had to leave Driftmark.
You found him in a secluded hallway, he looked out at sea through the large windows, watching as they readied his ship for departure, the left side of his face carefully bandaged to keep the cut clean. Holding onto the sides of your dress so as not to step on it, you ran to him.
He heard you, of course he did, you were hardly the sneakiest of people. Part of him wanted to turn away and leave, deeply ashamed of the fresh scar marking his skin; perhaps even afraid that it might scare you off. But you were his friend. His only friend.
"Aemond..." you spoke softly when you reached him, biting at the inside of your cheek and nervously gripping onto the cotton fabric of your lilac dress. You were only kids; you didn't know what to say to someone who'd just lost a part of himself, and Aemond cowered under your gaze, making himself smaller as shame and timidness filled his gut.
"Does it... hurt?" You chose to ask, voice hesitant.
The young prince took his time, pursing his lips as he looked down at his feet and then out the window again. "Yes," he admitted, "but less than it did last night."
"I'm sorry," you said without a second thought.
Aemond glanced in your direction with the corner of his good eye, refusing to turn toward you completely. "Are you not upset that I claimed your step-mother's dragon?"
The corners of your lips turned up into a small smile, it held sorrow and affection in equal measures. "I'm not." You stepped closer to him and turned to look out the window as well, watching as gentle waves washed to shore. You bumped your shoulder onto his. "I'm glad it's you."
For several moments you stood in silence, simply enjoying the easeness that came with each other's company.
Alicent's voice was the one to eventually break the quiet. "Aemond," she called.
Both you and him turned in the direction of her voice, finding her looking at you with a fond smile on her lips. "It's time to go, my dear." She gestured outside, to where their ship awaited, now ready to set sail. Aemond nodded at her words and she turned around, making her way to the docks.
The prince, however, made no effort to leave, he kept his gaze focused outside, following a flock of birds that overflown the ocean.
You followed it too, the sight bringing an idea to your mind. You had a tentative smile on your lips before you even started speaking; "You should go," despite not looking at you directly, you noticed Aemond's attention shifting to you. "I'll meet you again once we reach King's Landing, and... now that you have a dragon, perhaps we'll soon be able to fly over it together, right?" Your voice held a hopeful tone as you spoke.
For the first time since he had lost his eye, Aemond smiled; a real smile that stretched the fresh stitches on his cheek and gave a prickling feeling to the sensitive skin around them, but he didn't mind. He finally turned to look at you fully, all hopeful excitement and pink cheeks.
"We will," he affirmed without losing his grin. He held your gaze for a moment longer, lips parting as if he wanted to say something more, but didn't.
From the same window, you watched, now alone, as Aemond's ship sailed away; the colossal figure of Vhagar flying close to it, as if to protect her new rider.
Later this same day, your father married Rhaenyra, taking both you and your sisters to live in Dragonstone without ceremony.
You never said goodbye to Aemond. You would have, if you knew you would not be seeing him again for many years to come.

The gleam of the  silvery moon pierced through the dark blue skyline. The cool summer breeze swept through the entirety of the island, caressing wooden chimes hanging outside homes. The crickets were out singing songs to each other. The warm yellow light twinkled in the homes of many who where still awake during the late hours of the night.
With one last look of the island, Omega began making her way across the sandy beaches. She listened to the sound of the waves crashing gently against the shoreline; her shoes leaving prints behind in the sand. A few light breezes swept the loose strands of hair out of her face. She made her way into the lower caves of the island.
Coming up over the rocks, Omega's gaze landed on the spot in which her ship was docked. She neared one of the many generators in the cave, kneeling down and flicking the switch on. The warm light that radiated from the generator brightened her face and signaled the other generators to illuminate the rest of the cave.
A low bark sounded near one of the other generators. She lifted her head and smiled to herself, knowing that it was Batcher calling out to her. She briefly spotted another figure looming and sitting beside the old lurca hound, causing her heart to clench slightly in her chest.
Slowly, Omega made her way over to the both of them. The gangplank of her ship opened to reveal Gonky waiting for her. She rounded the side of the rocks, coming up behind the two.
"Thought you could just sneak off?" Hunter questioned as he stared off towards the entrance of the cave. The corners of his lips tugged into a gentle smile. "Time hasn't dulled all my senses," Hunter reminded her.
She lowered herself to sit down right beside him, watching him carefully with a hint of nervousness behind her eyes. She didn't say anything at first, but she had a feeling he was about to give her one of his famous talks. Sure enough, Omega was right about that.
"Your mother would have woken up worried sick about you, wondering where you’d gone off to this time," Hunter stated. His eyes focused on his hands that where clasped together.
"This shouldn't be a surprise. I talked with mum about this a lot," Omega defended herself.
Her words pained him slightly. In the more recent years, Omega had found herself seeking the advice of her mother more often than him. It had a lot to do with her age; having questions about womanhood that her mother was more than willing to explain. If Omega had gone to Hunter, the conversation would have just turned more awkward than anything. And sometimes, she was afraid to ask him in fear that he'd shoot her down pointblank.
It wasn't a surprise because he had heard some of their conversations late at night when the others had gone to bed. He recalled one conversation that happened just last week. She'd said something along the lines of: "Mum? What were the Clone Wars like?" Her mother proceeded to tell her what it was like to be a field medic during the height of the war. That, despite all the bad things, Y/n had found her purpose in life and wanted to help the war cause by tending to soldiers on the field.
Hunter just really wished she hadn't said that because they wouldn't be here now if she had.
"The Rebellion needs pilots now more than ever," Omega told him. She always had that drive to help others; she was so much like her mother in that way. "I made my choice, Hunter. I want to do more."
"And we want to keep you safe," Hunter countered. He finally turned to look at her. The worry was so evident behind those beaming eyes.
His strong sense of overprotectiveness was starting to show. It almost reminded her of what he used to be like when she was much younger: how he never wanted her to go on missions and how he'd force her to stay behind on the ship. She appreciated his concern, but it wasn't needed now.
"You have, but I'm not a kid anymore." Omega weakly smiled at him. She placed her hand on her chest. "You don't have to worry about me."
He wasn't satisfied with this, slowly turning away once again. He lowered his gaze to stare down at the ground. She continued to watch his movements carefully, wondering what he was thinking about in that moment.
"You're our kid, Omega. You always will be," Hunter said plainly. She smiled at this.
"You’ve got your own kids to worry about now," Omega chuckled slightly. She thought about her three siblings, figuring that they'd be fast sleep in their beds right about now and dreaming about things far beyond this galaxy.
"And you all make me feel like an old man," Hunter huffed with a playful smile.
"Well, you kinda are." Omega teased him by bumping into his shoulder.
When he turned his head towards the light, Omega was able to see just how much time had changed his appearance. His beard had grown out and his hair was sprinkled with grey. She saw the crows feet that bunched around his eyes when he smiled.
He was frail too. He wasn't able to play with his kids as much since last summer when he injured his back. He just moved a little slower now and wasn't able to do any heavy work around the house. He couldn't even remember how long it had been since they settled on Pabu all those years ago.
Pabu was home. Omega had grown up here. His other kids were born on the island. His family and his life was here. He wanted nothing more than to keep it that way. But Omega was moving onto newer things.
"Hunter," Omega sighed. She scooted a little closer to him and placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "You've all fought enough. This...is my fight. I'm ready."
Slowly, Omega rose to stand to her feet. He watched her move away from him with so much worry and concern in his eyes. He now realized that she wasn't his little girl anymore. She was all grown up and ready to have adventures of her own.
"Yeah. I know you are," Hunter sighed to himself. His lips curved into a soft smile. He shook his head slightly. "But I'm not."
Now, Hunter stood to his feet in a slow manner. His strength wasn't like it used to be. She didn't hesitate to step forward and embrace him in a tight hug. He wrapped his arms around her, resting his chin against her shoulder. When they pulled away, Omega placed her hands on his shoulders. She sent him a warm encouraging smile.
"Say goodbye to the others for me," Omega requested. She didn't need to give names because he knew she was talking about her brothers, her siblings, and her mother. He gave a single nod of the head before gesturing towards her ship.
"Off you go," Hunter had finally let her go.

By the time Hunter had gotten home, he was little surprised to see one of the lights on from his view on the street. He climbed the steps of the porch, opening the door as quietly as possible so he didn't wake the kids. His gaze landed on the familiar figure sitting in one of the living room chairs. He closed the door behind him.
"Hey," Hunter called out softly. He took a few strides towards her, kneeling down beside the armchair. He gently grabbed her hand and brought it to his lips, kissing the back of it. "How come you're still awake?"
"I could ask you the same thing," Y/n scolded him slightly. There was a twinge of annoyance in the tone of her voice. "I wake up to an empty bed and a daughter missing."
"Ah, yes. About that..." Hunter's voice trailed off. He quickly avoided her gaze and wondered how he was going to break the news to his wife. But his silence gave it away.
"She's gone, isn't she?" Y/n said rather sorrowfully.
He nodded silently in response. He fought against the tears that gathered in the corners of his eyes, but the light from the lamp illuminated them perfectly. She went to cup his cheek and sent him a weak smile.
"It was bound to happen some day," Y/n tried to reason with him. She shook her head at the notion. "She couldn't stay your little girl forever."
"No," Hunter agreed. "She couldn't. She's all grown up now."
Ever so slowly, Hunter rose to his feet alongside her. He took her spot in the chair before gently guiding her down to sit in his lap. He went to drape her legs over his lap and have them hang over the side of the chair. She wrapped an arm around his neck and leaned down to rest her head against his shoulder. He cradled her gently in his grasp.
The two parent's gazes fell on the wall where each of their children's height had been marked over the years to show their growth. There were countless tallies and dates, including both of his brothers' and the lurca hound's. They studied each mark as a reminder of how much each of their kids had grown over the years.
But Hunter's sights were stuck on a rather faded mark on the wall. He remembered the day like it was only yesterday. He loved seeing how excited Omega was to have her height marked on the wall; how Omega tried to stand as tall as she could while he used a pencil to mark it. Then, seeing over the years, her tallies had grown until she was basically his height.
"They're all growing up so fast," Y/n said with a hint of sadness in her voice.
"Maybe it's our sign to have another one," Hunter joked. She sent him a warning glare so he pressed a little further. "Come on. The littlest ones about five years old now. We're due for another."
"I told you I am done having babies. We've had three; that's a good number," Y/n swiftly shut down the idea of having another little one. She could think of a million reasons why that wouldn't pan out great. "We're getting too old for this. And with your bad back..."
"I know. I know. You don't have to remind me," Hunter chuckled softly, just loving how flustered she had gotten while talking about having a kid again. He pressed a gentle kiss to her check to calm her nerves.
The two of them swayed slightly in the rocking chair, basking in each other's presence. Their eyes set on the wall. The house's memories over the years came flooding back to them. The children's laughter was an ever present sound that brought the purest form of joy.
Their eldest daughter was all grown up now and out of the house. They remembered every single memory they made with her over the course of the past couple years. She had drastically changed their lives, but all for the better. And they wouldn't change a single thing.
LITERALLY AM OBSESSED WITH THAT FINAL SCENE OF OMEGA AND HUNTER. HAD TO WRITE MY OWN VERSION AND I HOPE YOU LIKE IT.

so there’s obviously more than meets the eye with this whole “agatha traded her son for the darkhold situation,” and it definitely has something to do with why she now hates rio. rio has to be at least partially to blame, perhaps it was her idea in the first place and/or she tricked agatha and made her think nicholas wouldn’t really have to be sacrificed. very interested to see where this goes and how/if agatha confronts her about it, especially since there’s still a lot of tension between them, sexual and otherwise.
