Guys, me and my cousins found this lil buddy at my grandma's house and we wanted to make sure it was not dangerous. So if anyone has any idea based on this imagine what it could be (sorry for the blurried photo it was the ebst we got).

This made me wonder what bugs would sound like if they were this big. Silt striders sound a lot like whales. What would a giant cricket’s chirp sound like? Would we hear their joints creak? What sounds would we be able to hear them make that we can’t now because they’re too small?

My friend and I counted the legs of a silt strider to determine its biological class :D

My new bespoke lore for the Driders in my own personal dnd settings is that the first Drider was made in a Medusa like scenario. In which a grievous attack from surface dwellers on a Drowess occurred leaving her paralyzed from the waist down, slowly dying, leaving her to die in the wilds of the Underdark. But rather than beg her goddess to end her suffering or send a wild beast as proxy to kill her-she beseeched her goddess to 'Give her the tools to avenge not only herself but to protect others from this fate'

And with what power the Spider Goddess could permit, she made the first Drider; granting them new legs, deadly venom and the ability to incapacitate threats to herself or the Drow Cities. Driders themselves became the first real defense the Drow people had when it came into invading forces-what wild life the Underdark hosted didn't managed to pick off from invaders, the Driders would quickly and efficiently tidy up.

For many centuries, Driders when they did crop up were regarded as cryptids, cautionary sad stories, but also celebrated and honored, going as far as having a Feast day called 'Spinneret's Day', a holiday that honored the Driders by playing music loud enough for them to hear it even far off into the Underdark wilds and leaving them gracious offerings, as well as trinkets, comfort items and letters of gratitude. Often times this was done by families who by some way or another were aware a lost family member had become a Drider and wished to extend at least the kindness of giving their loved ones what they need to survive.

It was only really with the evolution of political powers, economics, and religious factors that Driders began to be viewed as disgusting and not celebrated anymore; except by the select few who acknowledge the existence of Driders rather than playing off the idea that it's 'superstitious hocus pocus.' Driders in modern Drow culture are basically like 'My Cousin's Uncles DOG saw a Drider eating their trash and it was THIS BIG' energy.
